SAND LAND Episode 1: The Legendary Spring

There's really no two ways about it, Sunrise (+ Anima & Kamikaze Douga) absolutely nailed Akira Toriyama's world with this first episode. Equally impressive though is their insane 3D work.

I'm a big fan of Sand Land so I don't have much to add from a narrative perspective, but the CGI work on this series is actually incredible. Of course, this is an episodic version of the movie, so it's going to have quality that knocks your socks off, but this is the sort of work that gives Orange a run for its money.

Between this trio, Toei, and Orange, the future of CGI anime has never looked brighter. It's incredible work, impressive awareness, and peerless talent on display.

Because of that though, it just highlights the hack work that the rest of the industry has been doing. These studios have a near perfect understanding of what you can and can't do with 3D anime, and they have the experience and ability to deliver on what they *can* do. It's a massive difference to CGI being used to cut corners or cost on the majority of series, and it absolutely shows.

Hopefully studios learn from this incredible work and begin to pivot, but until then I'll be happily enjoying the seven episodes of Sand Land that are out currently (and periodically sharing my thoughts on them).

*gets head crushed by Char's bike*

Amuro : Oh my God! Char and Sayla! Are you guys okay?... Guess that means they're dead.

Char as Ghost Rider : No we're not dead, you ass! We just melted our faces that's all!

Sayla as Ghost Rider : Oh God! My face! We accidentally killed a girl and I'm a monstrous freak that look like that superhero, you clods!

Also Sayla as Ghost Rider : But what a good look on our faces. We are looking alike that superhero.

Chuchu as Ghost : Thanks a lot, dumbass! I only wanted to save my friends from street thugs and you want to smash my skull in the middle of the street!?

Char as Ghost Rider : Sorry. We were just wanted to do some fun, after all, killing street thugs as a superhero would be sound cool.

Ghost Rider : Hmmm...I like your styles. Pretty cool.

Amuro : Well, I guess it's official that we cracked this case about superheroes and Mecha pilots saving girls from being fallen into darkness by street thugs and criminals.

Also Amuro : Speaking of criminals, what kind of Street Thugs that wants innocent girls to be corrupted into darkness that needed a good sound thrashing?

Chuchu as a Ghost : *with a bat* It's called Human Trafficking, jackass. Thanks for cracking my head wide open, sucker!

Amuro : *realized he's screwed* Aw crap.

*DBZ SFX : Strong Hit*

*later*

Amuro : (groans) My head, what just happened?

*realizes something*

Amuro : Huh? My clothes! I'm bare skin without my clothes! I can't let anyone see this!

Colorful (2010)

I watched this movie tonight...

I was surprised.. I knew it looked good... but it's been a really long time since a movie captivated me so much I sat through it all...

Hell, even suzume couldn't captivate me enough to watch it all in one go, and it's a movie I was really hyped to see and really liked...

This is my 730th anime, and I'm glad I saw it..

I haven't been feeling great lately, and it really got me in some good feels...

Spoilers ahead;

A lot of the movie was easy to guess, like Makoto being Makoto in the end, but..

It kept me guessing a lot..

I wondered what was up with Hiruka and if she and Makoto would end up together..

I was sad and surprised when she said she'd do him for just ¥20000

And I was glad when he turned her down...

I watched it in dub so a lot of it made me cringe because the voice acting was a bit.. off a lot... but somehow, I find it gave the movie a charm...

I really liked it, and its one of the rare anime I've watched lately that I didn't stop to search up the voice actors every couple of minutes, even though I recognised them all but couldn't place them...

I'm also intregued by Shoko.. she def gave me autistic vibes, and I liked how awkward she was.

I'm still wondering if Purarpura was an angel or not.. his position is kinda left unmentioned...

Anyway...

I've been feeling pretty down lately and pretty suicidal, but this movie reminded me that there's still a lot of color out there.. makes me wanna see it.. makes me want to make more art, so I can touch people's feelings the way that movie did for me...

I'm really alive happy right now.
