Nobody seems to be having a good time right now, as Rakan gets scolded by Glemy Toto, his superior, for letting Amuro and Tiffa get away. He had ONE job! But Rakan assures him that not all is lost; he can still get them back.
With the call over, Shagia reports in that he and Olba still have no clue about Kamille's whereabouts, further souring his mood.
The brothers pay no attention to Rakan's scolding, however, and instead get excited over the Satellite Cannon in their twin mind link psychic DMs.
i ADORE how this game handles these two btw. this is the funniest the frost brothers have ever been and they were hilarious in their source material to begin with
Meanwhile, Jamil thanks Raul and the trio for their help in Amuro and Tiffa's rescue. The trio, conversely, is just as thankful for being rescued along with them, and for getting the chance to join up with the Frieden crew; they'll need all the help they can get, considering their circumstances.
However, Noin and Kid (the Frieden's chief mechanic, and a child prodigy at that) wonder if it's really fine to take the trio along, and not due to distrust, but due to logistics; see, the Excellence looks mighty advanced, and specialized at that. Won't they need to make it back to whatever facility they got snatched up from?
Raj saves us with his quick wit, however; he says that there's nowhere to return to, as the Zeon troops completely trashed the facility during their assault.
Jamil then moves onto proper introductions, which makes Mizuho realize that she's heard of him before. Isn't he some sort of war hero? Jamil is not fond of such titles, however, and dismisses it offhand.
The rest of the crew introduces themselves as well. Sara Tyrell is the Frieden's chief operator, Tonya Marm is the helmswoman, and Kid is the chief mechanic. srw r moves sara from the vice-captain post to operating duty and tonya from operating duty to the helm, thus erasing poor ol' shingo, the frieden's original helmsman
While introducing himself, Kid makes sure to tell the trio that he's more than willing to aid with any modifications or remodeling they ever plan to do on that Excellence of theirs.
Raul appreciates the sentiment, but understandably a bit cagey about letting other people work on the Excellence, he says that they do already have Mizuho as a dedicated mechanic. Kid can't hide his disappointment, but does hope he and Mizuho can work together in the future... though he doubts she's as skilled as he considers himself.
Next up are Roybea and Witz, who in this game's universe seem to just be regular ESUN pilots who got assigned to the Frieden rather than freelance mercs. Witz plays tough and says he's not too sure about our skills, but he'll be fine as long as we don't get in his way... and Roybea shuts him down by mentioning the crew seemed more than capable this last fight.
Fa introduces herself with just her name, and Jamil wants to introduce Garrod next, but he's not there; he hasn't left Tiffa's side since the battle ended... understandable, since she was taken straight to the medbay to get some rest. in any case, he's Garrod Ran, and they met him when he snuck in to rescue Amuro and Tiffa.
Speaking of, right now Amuro's explaining to him what happened as they watch over a sleeping Tiffa. It seems that when he fired, Tiffa couldn't help but sense the final thoughts of all the people they had just killed. Amuro warns Garrod to be mindful of the immense power of the Satellite Cannon. haha yeah im totally not gonna be using it every single mission dont worry bro
With personal introductions done, we move to organizational introductions; the Frieden works for the Earth Sphere United Nation (ESUN)'s specialized taskforce, the Preventers. Despite being total pacifists, even they had to take up arms to deal with the sheer barrage of threats that pounced upon the Earth Sphere in recent times.
With this, Noin finally properly introduces herself; she's not just a pilot, but also a direct contact between the crew and the Preventer chain of command. I think this means she's technically the highest-ranked member of the cast? In any case, Fa takes the chance to ask Noin if she's gotten any news about Kamille, but the Preventers seem to have had just as much luck with that as the Frost Brothers, and she has nothing new for Fa.
With Amuro and Tiffa rescued, they're all out of newtypes with known whereabouts, so they're going to be put on standby as they merge with another ESUN-run organization, GEAR (Guard Earth and Advanced Reconnaissance) thanks fukuda. Specifically, they'll be stationed at their japanese branch.
Roybea is already looking forward to some quality time with japanese girls, but Jamil and Sara remind him that it's not unlikely that Neo Zeon troops will give chase; Amuro and Tiffa are high priority targets of theirs, and they won't give up on them so easily. They can't let their guard down until they've made it to their destination...

One of the many reasons to watch this show. Garrod is probably one of the most enjoyable protagonists that Gundam has had outside of the UC timeline and one of the few normals to ever wipe the floor with multiple newtypes. Jamil Neate is the cool leader/older brother figure that Amuro could have become if he hadn't become pure energy, and the Gundam X (later Double X) is probably one of my favorite designs in all of 90's AU Gundam. It's honestly a tossup between it and the Tallgeese.
I know Gundam X isn’t the most watched gundam show but people should at least see this scene. 3 people, 2 newtypes required to shoot one shot. It’s one of the coolest and most powerful examples of Newtypes I’ve ever seen. The entire show is honestly worth it for this scene.

Thinkin' about Shagia Frost and his fit. Bell bottoms, frilly shirt, dracula coat and extra thick oxfords. It's the look of a secret agent mobile suit pilot.

After I made a custom Gundam X I also wanted to make a custom Gundam Virsago to go with it. I really liked the choice of parts I ended up going with but I’ve changed the colourscheme more times than I care to admit, before going back to something reasonably close to the original Virsago, just shinier. The concept of this goes along with my imagined alternate scenario for the After War continuity I described in my last post, where the war continues. Imagine that Shagia Frost survived the final battle and made an ungodly fusion of the Gundam Virsago Chest Break and the badly-damaged Double X. The result is a twin-Satellite Cannon equipped monster. He’d probably use this by his original playbook - while nominally loyal to the New Federation he’d be using this to destroy key assets from both sides to prolong and exacerbate the fighting as much as possible. To bolster the frame against recoil from the Twin Satellite Cannon, the Strike Claws on the arms are no longer enough, so I added some Palace Athene legs because the claws on them looked like they could be used to dig into whatever the suit’s standing on to brace, although as it turns out they also make surprisingly powerful melee combat weapons. The melee weapon set is the same as the original Virsago, with the Strike claws doubling as close range and long range beam guns, while it inherits the Double X’s chest vulcans and Twin Satellite Cannon. I rounded it out with a Hyper Dods Rifle from the Gundam Age 2 as something vicious and powerful looking.

Shagia Frost dei fratelli Frost ha stile ma non regge il confronto con gli altri antagonisti! https://www.facebook.com/GundamItalianClub/photos/a.113529045393692/3160882720658294/?type=3

So basically the vibe I’m getting from the Frost brothers is that Shagia is the Chad and Olba is the virgin

So, absolutely random multi-part question in regards to GUNDAM: how do you feel about After War Gundam X? What are its pros and cons? How do you think it handles the concept of Newtypes in comparison to Universal Century?
Oooooooooooh man. Bro. Buddy. Pal. My guy. My fucking dude. The best part of this is that I have not slept in 30 some odd hours, so you’re getting the #NoFilter version of this.
Let me talk to you about Gundam X. Let me talk to you about a series that starts out with a UC-style premise jacked up to 11, starts off with 90+ percent of the human population dead from a MASS colony drop, and manages to be arguably the most shamelessly optimistic and upbeat thing on two legs and a beam harmonica. Let me talk to you about its so-gorgeous-as-to-be-pornographic mech designs. But most of all, let me talk to you about its characters. My /GOD/ let me talk about its characters.
Garrod motherfucking Ran. You want a departure from the whiny little fucks that Kamille and Amuro were, but without the Newtype HAX that was Judau? Garrod’s your guy. Plucky, the biggest little shit on the planet, shamelessly optimistic, and for fuck’s sake, the kid jacks a mobile suit with a grappling hook, a gun, and a homemade flashbang /in the first fucking episode./
Tiffa Adill. Oh, man. Tiffa. Just. Noethne5tipohng4w3pngi3rgp. I just. I can’t. There aren’t words. She’s amazing. She never lets who she is keep her down for long, and I don’t care what anyone says, if Gundam as a meta-franchise has an OTP above all other OTPs, it’s these two. Cut, dry, the end, I will /fucking fight you./
Jamil Neate. The man with the sideburns and the PTSD. Char, Armuro, Bright, and Quattro all in one. Charmuro Brighteena, if you will. Fired the shot that changed the course of history and carried that burden with him, /and he fucking owned it./ Overcoming his PTSD to climb back into a cockpit again, and delivering the single greatest BrightSlap since the Eternal Captain himself did it the first time. “When a man strays from the right path, a kind man needs the courage to raise his fist and correct him.”
And the Frost Brothers. Shagia and Olba. I did a thing once upon a time about how these two were the most supremely relatable antagonists in all of Gundam, and I stand by that. Discarded, cast out, designated as failures, they went on a two-man roaring rampage of revenge against the whole goddamn world, and they both lived. They both lived to get their shot at redemption and finding their own place in the world.
And on Newtypes, I just. Man. I didn’t think about this until today, but. The way the series handles Newtypes, just. It really hammers home the message that Gundam has always been about. That war is senseless and bad for everyone. That D.O.M.E. and all other Newtypes turned out to be what they turned out to be in this After War world, just. It really drives home the point that all that fighting, all the backstabbing, the scheming and the bloodshed was pointless.
Okay. That. That was a lot. I’m good. I might read this and record it later, because JFC this thing was a ride and a half. Do enjoy, and, man, seriously, this made my fucking week and it’s only Wednesday.

On the enemy turn, the last remaining Daughtress aims for Noin, misses, and gets chunked. Just then, the consequences of my hubris befall me!
The Grandeene was able to charge up its MAP attack! good heavens, whatever will we-
...
In any case, the two Gundams finally start moving torwards us, and then it's back to our turn.
On our turn, i have Fa cast Luck and shoot down the remaining Grandeene for that sweet payout. We would have made more of a profit if i'd saved that for Olba, but I want to try and shoot down actual bosses with their respective enemies wherever possible.
Sorry Fa, i know you too have a lot of personal investment in your conflict with the Frost Brothers.
Garrod shoots down the final non-boss enemy.
And seeing as he was polite enough to walk right into Roybea's range, i decide to get to work on weakening Olba.
Roybea: "That Gundam certainly isn't my type!" Olba: "That Gundam... isn't fit to be my destined rival."
the only takeaway i've gotten from this is that you two have very different tastes in gundam design
also, pictured: me failing to realize that if olba can attack from there, he's probably not gonna come closer next turn
Instead of moving anybody closer, i figure they'll come closer next turn and leave everyone parked.
That's not quite what happens.
Shagia: "So that's a Gundam too... Interesting." Witz: "Damn you, Frost brothers! I'll get you back for this, just you watch!"
Olba, on the other hand, aims for Roybea and just gets Gatling'd again. Back to our turn!
