I don't think I've ever actually, truly shipped Sweeney and Lovett before the 2023 revival

i adore sweenett not in the way that i think they actually love eachother and are a healthy couple at all. i just love them bc they are so silly and evil and trust eachother so deeply and rely on eachother and they were truly all the other one had. sweeney and mrs lovett are two very lonely people who found friendship and connection in eachother. their relationship is so full of longing and hurt and the attraction between them is there and it’s strong but the pain they are both experiencing is stronger. they were so close. they were almost almost almost there. sweenett is infuriating and beautiful and that’s why i love it. i don’t believe they loved eachother. i think they were a little in love with eachother, but only on the surface level. you cant deny sweeney loved her just a little bit. he’s got this woman at his feet, beautiful and enticing and loving, albeit extremely strange, annoying, and morally bankrupt. being without affection or a woman’s comfort for 15 years, of course sweeney found her feelings for him both frightening and tempting. mrs. lovett, on the other hand, is completely infatuated with him, refusing to acknowledge his flaws. she’s a widow and a hopeless romantic. sweeney was all she had. she was all he had. they did good business and had so much fun while it lasted before all the secrets poured out and they killed eachother. it was silly and scary and sad. i love sweenett — not exactly as a couple, but as a pair. a couple that almost happened and most definitely never should have happened. nellie lovett and sweeney todd: twin flames from hell

【 what being in a relationship with mrs. lovett would be like... 】

One day you stumble upon Mrs. Lovett's Pie Shop after hearing all the excitement on the streets of her salivating meat pies. You didn't really care for the savory kind of pies, so when your friends drag you there, you would instead order some tea or beer.

Nellie is immediately drawn to you the moment you walk into her shop, admiring you from afar as you're talking and laughing with your friends, unbeknownst to you. If you do prefer savory over sweet pies, I think she'd try and avoid giving them to you, making excuses that this batch isn't as good or that a couple of her hairs got mixed in to put you off them, even though her other customers completely devour them at the tables surrounding yours.

You'd quickly become a regular there, enjoying the quiet calmness of her shop when there's scarcely any customers yet, coming either in the early morning or the late evening. You'd order a drink or a little something to eat and then stay for an hour or two, appreciating slowly waking up or winding down for the night in the quaint place.

Nellie always checks in with you every once in a while to refill your cup, politely conversing with you for a few minutes. Over time, the two of you get closer, to the point where Nellie lets you stay after shop hours so that you two could continue talking and getting to know each other. You'd help her clean and tidy up around the shop so that she could be finished earlier, then she'd fix you both up fresh cups of tea and you talk into the night.

What really draws Nellie to you is how you listen and give her your attention. You make it clear that you're interested in what she's talking about and that you want to continue talking, even listening intently when she starts to ramble. Nellie is often dismissed by those in her life, so to see you really care to hear what she's saying, she quickly grows feelings for you.

Now Nellie is manipulative and possessive, so she will do anything to make sure that you're her's and her's only.

If she sees someone making romantic advances on you she might ask Sweeney to invite them up for a haircut or shave.... Your admirers just have a tendency to disappear. It's a little strange that the smoke from Mrs. Lovett's Pie Shop gets especially bad whenever someone asks you on a date or flirts with you, but you don't question it. She'd also find different ways to insert herself into your life so that she can get closer to you.

She's not quite subtle about how she's fallen for you either. Nellie will cast longing looks from across the room, sigh wistfully to herself thinking about you, and even make several suggestive comments to drop hints.

Confessions of Love

If she confesses first... - She'd first gift you something like a vase of your favorite flowers, a knitted pair of gloves, or a new necklace. Her eyes go so soft, watching your delight at her gifts then she'd reveal her feelings. Warmth spreads through her chest once you admit you feel the same.

"Always had a fondness for you, I did."

If you confess first... - You'd sit her down one night after shop hours, candlelight flickering on your features as you reach over and take her hands in yours, letting her know how glad you are to have met her, and then you confess. You rub a finger over her knuckles and stare into each other's eyes, in slight elated disbelief that you're both smitten with each other.

You both of course know the risks of being in a relationship with another woman at this time, but you're both so taken by each other that you'll do anything to be together. You have to be secretive. Being unable to be open about your feelings in public frustrates and exhausts both of you, but you work through it together. Most are none the wiser, dismissing it and writing you off as very close friends.

A relationship with Nellie is really sweet. She loves taking care of you, it's one of the most common ways she shows her love for you, making sure that you've eaten or drank enough water.

She's obsessed with you, it's honestly really flattering just how into you she is, flirting and doting on you all the time, but it really can be too much at times. Nellie's so open and honest with her feelings, so you really don't need to have any doubts, but I can see her obsession with you causing the most problems in your relationship.

Giving Gifts - Nellie will gladly spoil you rotten (she has the money for it with her respectful business), but I think she prefers handmade gifts like knitting clothes for you in the colder seasons, or preparing you your favorite food/meal. She pours love into everything she makes for you, and it's through making things that she can really express her feelings.

Physical Touch - Nellie's very clingy, so prepare for that. She wants to be around you almost constantly—resting her head on your shoulder as you do something, hooking an arm around your waist, kissing the crown of your head, nestling her face into the crook of your neck smelling your hair, sitting on your lap and hugging you. She loves cuddling and being wrapped up in your arms the most, it makes her feel so safe and loved. She also gets weak in the knees when you gently press a hand against her throat or on the small of her back while you kiss her.

Words of Affirmation - She'd definitely want the reassurance that you love and care for her. Nellie's so sure of her feelings for you, she wants to make sure that you care for her as much as she does for you. She'll also praise and compliment you often. If you ask, she'll happily remind of her feelings.

Nellie loves teasing you, just to get a reaction out of you and see how far she can push you. But tease her back, compliment, praise her, or make a suggestive comment that she wasn't expecting and she'll be blushing.

Nellie is definitely very protective over you. If someone gives you a look she's not too fond of or a gross comment, she'll tell them off.

She craves and feeds off of your attention so when she sees someone else getting that, she can become quite jealous, even if it is just a friend you're catching up with. She'll let you be, but after she'll latch onto you and ask you to give her attention.

One of Nellie's best qualities is how thoughtful and attentive she is. Nellie remembers all kinds of small details, takes note of your interests, and will always be thinking of you as you go about your day. This can show up in several ways. If you mention your favorite fruit offhandedly, she'll surprise you with a basket full of pastries, treats, and a pie using the fruit you said you liked. If you go window shopping together in the town and your eyes linger on a jewelry box or beautiful ornate quills and stationery, there's a parcel on your porch a couple days later of those exact items. If you live together, Nellie will stop you before you leave and put some items in your bag that you've forgotten, fixing your clothes and pressing a small kiss to your forehead, wishing you a good day. Her way of loving you is knowing you and showing she's thinking of you.

♥︎♥︎♥︎ Nellie is such a sweet and devoted lover. She would give you the moon on a string if she could. Give her your attention, show interest in her, and she's yours. Her affection for you can get a bit overwhelming at times, but make your boundaries clear, she'll be so attentive and respectful, and will do her best to follow them. She is so willing to do anything when it comes to you, and you can do the same for her.

Why Stay? — Nellie Lovett x OC

Summary: Nellie begins to question Effie's reason for staying on at the pie shop.

Word Count: 817

Warnings: Some light angst, mentions of death

A/N: Consider this as a sneak preview into a part of their fic.

"She’s charming. Always been charming. Nothing you need to get yourself all worked into a tizzy about, Nellie," she tried to self soothe, hoping that saying the words aloud would enhance their effectiveness, but it was not meant to be. The rolling of the dough used to be calming for her, and allowed her to clear her head, but here she was, having rolled it near as thin as a sheet of paper and she hadn’t even realized. Still, she could salvage it. That was something at least.

Her mind was filled with too many questions these days. Questions which led her to distraction in her waking hours and made for fitful nights of sleep. The Larkin girl. It had all started with her. She’d been with her —working for her— for some time now, reliable as ever, but Nellie couldn’t help but have her doubts.

It was the nature of her business that first raised these doubts. Effie may have been hardly more than a street urchin when she’d come across her, but now she was flourishing, and could no doubt have her pick of London's men, maybe even marry above her station in life, and yet, here she stayed, luring unsuspecting men to their deaths. But why?

It’s not as if she wished Effie would move on to better and brighter things. Surely she wanted that for her, but it wouldn’t be the same were she to go. She didn’t want her to go, but she couldn’t understand why she’d stay. It was immensely frustrating, actually. The clunk of heeled boots, and the creak of the stairs interrupted Nellie's inner monologue, and signaled to her that Effie had returned, leading yet another unfortunate sap up to a fatal haircut with Mr. Todd.

She’d have to say something, that was the beginning and end of it. Soon as she came down, she’d ask her outright. It had to be done. The loud, metallic clanging of the bell on the shop door rang just then, announcing Effie's entrance to the pie shop. "Shit," Nellie cursed, barely audible. She wasn’t ready.

"Good evening, Mrs. Lovett," Effie greeted cheerily. Her rosy cheeks and bright smile contrasted so starkly with the shop and the nature of their shared business that sometimes Nellie had a hard time believing she was even real. Would be like her to make up such a girl, now wouldn’t it? "Is something on your mind," Effie asked, once again taking her away from the goings on in her head.

"I did have a question, if I may." Effie nodded her permission for her to ask her question. "Why do you stay? Here, at the pie shop, doing…well, what you do. I know why you accepted my offer, but the shop is doing well now, I dare say." Nellie paused to knock on the thick wooden table she was preparing the pies at. "So I guess I was merely curious why you don’t go elsewhere, do less unsavory work."

Effie took a moment to consider her answer. She knew the reason she stayed on, but putting it into words took a bit of finessing. "I made a choice then, and I make the same choice now. Perhaps I could be engaged in some other line of work, or married, but that is not what I want for my life. I like it here. It feels like home, however dreary or macabre some may find it. I have become good friends with Mr. Todd, well as much as anyone can, I suppose."

Effie punctuated her last remark on Mr. Todd's nature with a tinkling laugh, the one Nellie so very much enjoyed. As she felt herself begin to smile, Nellie bent down her head to hide it from her, suddenly seeming very interested in the rolling pin.

"And I have you," Effie continued. "Even if I felt that I didn’t owe you a debt for bringing me in off the streets, I could imagine myself no place else. It isn’t the roof over my head that keeps me here. It is you."

This caused Nellie to freeze as the words settled around her, coagulating in her mind. Finally, she looks up at Effie, who's been awaiting her reaction. "Me," Nellie questioned, hating the way her voice betrayed her disbelief.

"Yes," Effie surely reaffirmed. Yet the shock on Nellie's face gave her pause. Perhaps she’d read her wrong. "Should I not have said? I wouldn’t have, only I believed you felt the same. Did you want me to leave? I regret if I’ve misconstrued—"

"No," Nellie interrupted. How good to know she wasn’t the only one who bumbled on like a dolt. She cleared her throat as Effie fell silent. "I don’t want you to go. Not ever. You’re welcome here as long as you like."

Effie smiled softly. "Then I think I should like to stay forever."

Summary: So, it turns out that being around the deathly smell of corpses all day long isn't good for anyone, no matter how used to the smell they may be.

~After getting used to the stomach churning smell of rotting, peeling flesh, lovely Mrs. Lovett had assumed she'd be fine.

~She worked with corpses all day, anyway, and nothing had happened to her. She hadn't fallen ill.

~Heaving the bodies up into the meat grinder. Using sharp knives that easily could bust a blood vessel with one slice to chop off fingers and toes. She was no longer disgusted by the iron scent of blood that occasionally splattered onto her dress when she was careless about work that day.

~But her body certainly didn't agree with it.

~She eventually found herself feeling rather ill and unwell, but of course, she had to keep going. It's not like she could stop now, when the bodies were piling up and people wanted to be fed.

~Her shop was finally doing well, thanks to the "secret ingredient". She was not only feeling ill, but was overworked, as well, people left and right to feed and serve.

~And one day, it eventually caught up with her. Lovett simply couldn't handle it anymore, and found herself sick. This was going terribly. How could she keep up? Sweeney couldn't do all the work himself.

~Ah, but she had one last resort. Her lovely, loyal friend, perhaps the only other person in the world she could trust with with a morbid secret.

~You, of course!

~You've come to help out in the shop when since she's down for the count.

~She appreciates the work you do around the shop for her while she's sick, and offers to pay you for doing it.

~Would like if you read to her for awhile to get her mind off of how ill she feels.

~Always reaches over to give your hand, arm, or knee a thankful little squeeze.

~Mrs. Lovett also insists that you don't spend TOO much time around her, though, worried that she'll get you sick as well.

~She think it to be sweet that you come to check on her every now and then.

~When she's better, she'll look at you fondly and kiss your forehead in thanks while she gives you a brief ruffle to the hair. She wants to make sure that you know she appreciates you taking care of her.

The Truth is In The Trouble (Pt. 1)

Ship: Sweeney Todd x Bill Fang

Word Count: 1132

Summary: While Mrs. Lovett's business appears to be looking up, Bill's luck seems rather the opposite. When he admits to Sweeney that he's run afoul of the law, the barber takes it into his own hands to right the wrong, inadvertently showing Bill just how far he's willing to go for those he cares about. CWs for implied cannibalism, classism, mentions of cheating, murder.

It seemed so sudden when Mrs. Lovett announced that she had acquired new ingredients, but it didn’t take much convincing for Bill to brush off the oddness of the occurrence and set to help her make the next batch of pies. He also didn’t question why she sent him out the next day to promote her shop; she had tried it when she first hired him, but it had never worked. Still, he managed to convince those coming to Sweeney for a haircut or a shave to give the “new recipe” a try, even when they had prepared the meat like they always had. What was shocking was the customers’ overall delight with the supposedly new product.

“Where on Earth did you get this meat?” Bill had to ask when they had almost sold out of the test batch of pies.

“I found it cheap at the market, the packaging was a bit damaged but the contents was just fine!” Nellie insisted at a low volume as to not catch unwanted attention from lingering customers. “I think it fell off a ship coming from Italy, it had some foreign language on the side.”

“Never heard that one before…” He scratched at the back of his head, watching another satisfied customer leave before shrugging. “But I suppose if it sells, it sells.”

“That’s the spirit, my boy, and we’ve still got plenty of supply to last us until Friday.” She pinched his cheek in an excitedly maternal way. “And think of the talk! For once in our lives, people are going to leave the shop and not warn others not to come by!”

Bill nodded, rubbing his cheek as she turned away from him. “What happens when we do run out, though? What are the chances you come across something like this again?”

“Oh, pish posh. If all goes well, sales from this batch will allow us to purchase just as quality of meat as what we’ve got right now.”

It was at this moment Bill stopped listening, for an unfriendly face had just entered the shop.

“I think I’m going to go check on Mr. Todd, see how business is going for him…” He announced quickly before ducking out the side door, not leaving time for Mrs. Lovett to react. He took the steps two at a time and let himself into the parlour, careless as to whether Sweeney was with a customer or not. Thankfully, he wasn’t, and was merely wiping down his chair from his previous appointment.

“Ah, Fang. What brings you…? Are you alright?” Sweeney began as he looked up, setting aside his towel. Bill was sure he looked pale and anxious as he glanced over his shoulder and out the window, though it was unlikely the man he was avoiding had seen him.

“Someone I’d rather avoid just walked into the pie shop.”

Sweeney raised a brow, intrigued. “Oh?? Who could you possibly have an issue with, you seem to me as the least likely person in London to have an enemy.”

Bill laughed nervously, inching further into the room. “Well, you’re probably right about that, I don’t make it a point to step on anyone’s toes… but, ah, the who in question would be one Officer Maltby. To say the least, I couldn’t hold my tongue when I overheard him talking down on folks like us- that is to say, without much to our name but honest workers -let alone when I realized he’s very likely cheating on his poor wife.”

The barber’s expression became one of surprise and underlying outrage. “Well, I can very much say I would’ve reacted the same. So he’s got it out for you now, then?”

“He technically had to let me off the hook since I was only exercising my freedom of speech, but given any future chance, even the smallest offence, he said he’d arrest me.”

“The whole tree of authority in this city is rotten to its innermost ring,” Sweeney spat disgustedly. He stepped closer to Bill, unconsciously making his next proposal much more intimate. "You don't deserve to be walking on eggshells every time you leave the shop, straining your ears for the sound of those damned boots… I will take care of him for you."

Bill's eyes widened slightly and his cheeks warmed. "Take care of him…?"

"Precisely." His mind was made up. Officer Maltby must be the next in the chair, if it wasn’t to be the Judge, of course.

"Shouldn't you be avoiding any lawmen?"

Sweeney’s laugh was more akin to a bark. "I'm a very smooth talker, I assure you, he won't suspect a thing…" He hesitated, struck with the desire to take Bill's hand in his own. Though sudden anxiety screamed at him internally, he did so anyway, holding Bill's hand up to his chin. "Allow me to extend the same kindness you've shown me, Bill. Please."

Their entire face felt red hot. They swallowed, unable to look away from Sweeney’s tired but set features. “If it’ll ease your mind… just be careful, alright?”

Sweeney let go, letting Bill’s hand gently sway back into a resting position at their side. “It would, most certainly. There is only one thing I ask of you… invite him up here for me.”

Though it was uncomfortable, Bill agreed. He returned to the shop below and curtly told the officer that Sweeney wished to speak with him, throwing in something about a discount for those who worked so hard to keep London’s streets so “safe” and “pristine.” He hoped the barber would speak with him as he gave the man a shave, perhaps even threaten him slightly… he truly had no idea. When the officer went upstairs, Bill went below, into the belly of the pie shop, where the large ovens and meat grinder were kept. He hummed as he took inventory, sighing over the mysterious meat that had come into his boss’ possession. There was no packaging to be found, but perhaps she had discarded it already.

He hadn’t been down in the shadows and the heat long before he heard an odd tumbling sound from above. He looked up at what he had always assumed was a laundry chute, just in time to see the bloodied body of Officer Maltby sliding into the room. He screamed, surely alarming whoever remained in the shop above and quickly drawing Mrs. Lovett down the stairs.

“Oh, sweet Satan’s slippers! Look what he’s gone and done now,” she exclaimed to herself as Bill whipped around to face her. She put her hands out to keep him from rushing past her. “Now, just calm down…! This’ll all be explained as soon as Mr. Todd gets down here…”

Bill attempted to push by her, screaming past her shoulder in panic, “SWEENEY!!”

Imagine Nellie baking your worst enemy into a pie.

It had all been arranged without your knowing. Sweeney had lured the one person who had a vendetta abasing you into his shop as per Nellie's instruction and within the hour, their lifeless body had been delivered down to Mrs. Lovett's pie shop.

How delicious of a surprise it would be to you to find out you no longer had to worry over that cretin of a human being bothering you ever again. They’d be baked into a pie by dinner. One in which you and Nellie would share.

Nellie was sure to include your favorite seasonings and sides, making her revenge on your mortal enemy all the more savory. Had you not known the nature of her business, she would not have undergone such a risky plot, but she was assured that you would be thankful and impressed with her work. You always did like her cooking.

When you arrived that evening to dine with her, she informed you of the surprised that awaited you. You sat and eagerly awaited whatever it may be she had in store. She served you the pie and sat with you, smirking. "Go on, ask me the secret ingredient," Nellie prompted.

"I thought I already knew your secret ingredient," you replied.

"This one's extra special," she hinted, a wicked glint in her eye.

"You couldn’t mean," you trailed off, putting the pieces together. Nellie confirmed your suspicions with a nod and a smile. "You spoil me, Nell," you said. "Now let’s dig in."
