The Cardinal Sins are virtues for the adhd mind.
Our brains don't produce dopamine like a neurotypical's, and so outsourcing the dopamine is a valid choice.
I just ate a massive cone of chocolate ice cream on my 45 minute break at work and came back so happy, and sharing the joy of the picture I took of it with my coworkers (temptation unto Gluttony? :3c).
Double shifts are hard on me mentally because of dopamine drain, and the ice cream rejuvenated me. The sense of taste and the texture of nummies is a huge source of dopamine for me. Caffeine in delicious and sweet Southern iced tea and lattes. Chewing on my straws to stim and for flavor of sippage during.
Gluttony saves and maintains my brain, and I am opposed to temperance.
I am still reeling with happiness (dopamine) over that ice cream. Obsessed. Hyperfocusing. It was so good.
The alternative I've been facing of late at work is mental suffering due to little to no dopamine. Foodform dopamine beats the suffering of not attaining such nummies.
Likewise are Lust and Greed joyful sources of dopamine unto us. Sexual pleasure and climax, beholding sexy figures, of course the impulse spending our brains are wont to do, and the joys of new things attained!
Pride lets us not hate ourselves for how our brains are. Wrath is in our natures, adhd rage. Envy ties in with Greed, the yearning for new things that others have, that seem to make them happy, that could make us happy (dopamine source). In my experience, sleep deprivation makes it harder for my brain to produce dopamine, so Sloth remedies that, along with the other different types of rest (Hayley Honeyman, an adhd youtuber, did a video on the seven types of rest!!!).
And, at least for me, the Seven Deadly Sins are among my biggest special interests at present, so engaging in them and thinking about them naturally gives me an additional big dopamine hit by default.
The Seven Dopamineful Sins 💚

It might take me awhile to defeat the the seven or rather the eight deadly sins as Luxuria is difficult to defeat and I can't even use a burst attack in the battle. My progress so far:

How does the Ministry function? Headcanon
Despite what it would seem, the Clergy's ruler is not actually the current Papa, which can be easily seen in the Chapters, where everything seems to be much more under Sister Imperator's control. However, even she seems to be under someone's supervision, aside from Satan himself. How does it all work, then?
Satan
Not much to be added here. Obviously, the person on the very top of the Clergy is going to be the Dark Lord. However, since unlike some deities he actually believes in free will, he doesn't really intervene much,
The Council of Seven Deadly Sins
The ones actually in charge. The Council, as the name shows, consists of seven members, each representing a sin. They are all in some way supernatural beings and have been granted immortality to guide the Clergy, however it is not impossible for the members to change. If one is somehow overpowered and killed, the person who defeated them gets their spot. It is unknown who is the most powerful member of the Council, therefore they do not have an official leader. Instead, they draw lots on who is in charge of their next meeting.
The Council of Seven Deadly Sins consists of:
Superbia (Pride) - The Director
Avaritia (Greed) - Representative currently unknown
Luxuria (Lust) - Representative currently unknown
Invidia (Envy) - Representative currently unknown
Gula (Gluttony) - Representative currently unknown
Ira (Wrath) - Mister Saltarian
Acedia (Sloth) - Representative currently unknown
Due to the fact that they obviously must attend to very many things at once, only one of them (The Director) is actually in the Ministry th entire time. The rest visit when they feel like and for official meetings.
Does Sister Imperator not being here confuse you? That's because she fits in the next category.
The Assistants of The Council
As of now, the only known member of this group is Sister Imperator, who serves as the Assistant of The Director. However, due to how her boss is, she is the one running the Ministry most of the time. Something that she was prepared to since she was a child.
For reasons known only to himself, mister Saltarian does not have an assistant right now and has not had one for almost a century.
The Papa
While the Papa holds a lot of power when it comes to Siblings of Sin, in reality he is completely powerless in the end, as any of the Council members of Assistants of the Council can easily veto Papa's decisions. In reality, the role of a Papa is much more representative than anything. They do, however, have a lot of paperwork to keep up with. So sadly, while the title is a great honor, it actually comes with much less power than one would think.
If for whatever reason there's more than one Papa at a time (for example, one of them is too old to function on his own, but he's not willing to retire (like Papa Nihil), another Papa can be chosen to function alongside him. In this case, the older Papa is mostly in charge of the more mundane tasks while the younger Papa takes on the more "important" aspects of the job. There can be up to two Papas at once, however one of them must be "retired" in theory.
A Papa can serve his duties alone until he reaches 80 years of age, however they can resign at any point (or can be forced to do so). He does keep the title, but it is mostly an honorific. A retired Papa is not forced to work, but they can choose to. If a Papa chooses to keep working after his 80th birthday, he will be forced to accept a second Papa to work alongside him.
The Cardinals
Unlike in the Catholic church, in the Clergy a Cardinal is not just a fancier Bishop, it's a fully functional, separate role. The Papa can have up to twelve Cardinals (which have to be accepted by at least one of the Council members) to serve as his own assistants and advisors. Not to be confused with a Papa's personal assistant, which is a completely different function.
The Cardinals also help manage the Ministry while the Papa is away. They are also temporarily in charge (still below the Council, of course) if something happens to their Papa and the new one is not yet chosen.
All heirs of the current Papa have to become a cardinal when they reach the age of 30, however due to the bloodline, they can, if they so wish, skip all the way from Deacon to a Cardinal, seeing as their education for their role begins way earlier. A younger sibling also counts as an heir. (So for example, Terzo has been a Cardinal to his father and both of his brothers.)
If a Papa dies without leaving an heir, the next Papa is chosen by the Council from his Cardinals.
Whenever a new Papa is chosen, he is given a choice to either keep the Cardinals of the previous one, or he can select a new bunch. Cardinals forced into retiring are given the title of an Archbishop.
The Archbishops
Despite how fancy the title sounds, it's just that. A title. The Archbishops get a fancier outfit, yes, but that's about it. They have the same responsibilities as regular bishops. The Archbishop title is mostly a way to show respect to them for their service, as it is given almost exclusively to former Cardinals and very few Siblings that have done something extraordinary to earn the title.
The Bishops
In the clergy, the role of a Bishop is not as fancy as it is in the catholic church. It can be summarized to a priest with more experience. A Bishop's role is mostly to educate Deacons and help younger Priests while doing the work they did as Priests. Of course, they get more paperwork than regular Priests. It takes 10-15 years for a priest to become a Bishop.
The Priests
Their role is similar to the catholic priests, except satanic, of course. There really isn't much to say here.
The Deacons
The lowest on the "Priest path" of the Ministry. The students. The ones who aren't Priests yet, but they wish to become them. One must be a Deacon for five years to become a priest. The earliest one can become a Deacon is 16 years old. An exception to that is an heir to the Papacy, who becomes a Deacon at age 13.
The Siblings of Sin
Despite theoretically being the lowest in hierarchy among the humans of the Ministry, they can be found all over the positions of power which are not directly related to religion itself. For the Clergy, anyone who has been baptized is a Sibling of Sin. They are under no obligation to become Priests or climb the ladder. Siblings of Sin are simply members of the Clergy, no matter what their exact function is. Can one Sibling of Sin have some level of control above others? Yes, absolutely, due to their administrative function or other things like that. In the Church's ranks, however, they are even.
The Nameless Ghouls
Despite me putting them at the bottom here, the Ghouls do not actually have a fixed position in the hierarchy of the Ministry. They are summoned with a specific purpose and/or to serve a specific person. Unless that person passes a contract made with a Ghoul to someone else, the Ghoul only serves their summoner at first. In most cases, however, the Summoners and Ghouls get attached to each other and Ghouls are granted freedom. While they still usually work under their Summoner, just with much more possibilities. The Ghouls respond to their Summoners almost exclusively. The Ghouls have their own hierarchies, but that's for another post, I guess.

Durante Sin Predictions
I recall someone (I think @lu-is-not-ok) suggesting that the sins appearing in Durante are sins that both the attached Sephirath and the Sinner need/ed to learn to utilise in order to deal with their personal struggle at the moment and... Yeah I did a delve into that, and all of it just clicks WAY TOO WELL. Starting with what we have, Pigrita (sloth) for Hokma and Heathcliff. I think in this context, the thing they harness from sloth is "Acceptance"
Hokma in Lobcorp had to learn that he cannot be responsible for everything, that he can't take care of everything, and to just accept someones elses will for their path and the future Heathcliff had to accept several things, accept his past and let go of resentment with that, accept help of his companions, and finally, accept Cathy's decision.
Next, We have Superbia, Sin of pride, for Binah and Sancho. And as I said in some other post, Pride is "Conviction"
Binah in lobcorp had no conviction, she engaged in her tasks because it was required of her, until she finally had opportunity to go mad like she wanted to. But after her meltdown, she sees X's drive, part of her gains the Conviction that unlike what she believed, city may be changed. In Sancho's case, it is her needing to have conviction in the rightousness of her own dream, to be able to truly stand against her fathers will. So far it fits, so what do we have next?
I believe for Chesed and Hong Lu, we will tap into Ira, the Sin of wrath, which in this case, gives us strenght to confront the unjust.
In Cheseds case, the lesson he learned during his meltdown is, that nothing will change if people accept world as is, if they won't stand against injustice even if odds seem insurmountable. Simmilarily, for Hong Lu it would manifest in him finally having will to confront his family, rather than constantly be avoidant or accepting, he will directly approach the root of his issues, and possibly uproot them.
Gebura and Ryoshu in my opinion will be learning to use Morostasis, Gloom. For it is Gloom that lets us process our grief.
Gebura was unable to process her grief, her pain, so instead, she lashed out, she struck at abnormalities, and then at whole facility, but after her meltdown, she was finally able to accept the pain that came with her failures, instead of being a blindly striking blade. Ryoshu is escapism addict. If her backstory is accurate to Hells Screen, the core of her issue is grief over a lost child, yet she posseses no gloom. It's because she does everything she can to avoid thinking about it, avoid confronting it, but I believe that in her canto, we will see her come to terms with her pain and accept it.
Meursault and Tiphereth then, will have Gula, Sin of gluttony, one from which desire, hope and drive stems from.
Tiphereth had no expectations, she lived in now, fearing the future, but with her meltdown, what came was Expectation for better future, Hope for a better future, drive to achieve that better future. Meursault lacks such drive, he constantly adjusts himself to wishes of others because its more convenient that way, more comfortable that way, but that does not mean he lacks them. In his canto I believe he will be forced to acknowledge his wants, and gain drive to pursue them regardless of societal judgement
Next on the list is Hod and Outis, seemingly unlikely pick but, what they both lacked, is Invidia, Envy, which here translates into, Humility.
Hod may appear humble at first glance, but its a farce. Her false kindness and humility were not out of the goodness of her heart, but to feed her own ego, her belief in her own goodness, and only after her meltdown does she accept feedback of others, actually strives to improve from whom she was already. Outis also may appear humble at first, with how intensly she follows power dynamics, but that comes from her pride and sloth, she does not believe in her inferiority to her overseers, she's just following the Rightous chain of command. As we can see in the Sasha battle log, she completly and utterly refuses to accept other peoples perspectives. Because of that, I think she will have to tap into sin of envy to accept that sometimes, listening to other peoples perspectives, is needed to become better.
That leaves us with one last set, Netzach, Faust and Luxuria, Lust. This one is harder to succintly put into a single word, but I believe that for those two, Lust will manifest in appreciation of life itself.
With netzach he seems outwardly lustful, but he has no actual enjoyment of what he does, it's just one long lasting suicide attempt. But after his meltdown, and ESPECIALLY in his ruina appearance, he learns that life, in on itself, has value, that to live, is to experience, to laugh to cry etc. Its not just the ends that matter, but the process aswell. And so with Faust, with her access to Gesellschaft she is in constant state of ennui, completly bored. But as we see in warp train event, when separated, she absolutely is able to enjoy the process of learning, of discovery, it brings her happiness. So when her canto comes, I think she will learn to not focus only on results of knowledge accumulation, she will stop trying to achieve climax of knowing that would bring her satisfaction, instead, she will take joy in each small step of learning something new.
Also fast round with not theorising, In games code there is also Angst and Madness sin which can easily be thrown onto Yesod and Malkuth in that order.

The Seven Deadly Kwami Sins
I kinda just said "What if I did this" one night and here we are. This is more an excuse to make kwamis that aren't based off animals, and in this case, demons.
Let's crack into this with the first of them:
Tumblr media
We start with the greatest of sins, Superbia, Kwami of Pride. The only one of the sins to have wings. Oh, and all their names are going to be the latin of their sins (I hope. I tried to do my research, so I'm fairly (not really) confident they're right)
Tumblr media
The second sin we have is Libidine, Kwami of Lust.
Tumblr media
The third is Ira, Kwami of Wrath. This is also an exception to the rule I have with kwami names and holder names. I know Ira is used for Absolution!Ondine, but like, themes.
Tumblr media
The fourth is Desidia, Kwami of Sloth.
Tumblr media
The fifth is Invidia, Kwami of Envy
Tumblr media
The sixth is Gula, Kwami of Gluttony
Tumblr media
Lastly, the seventh is Avaritia, Kwami of Greed.
This is probably the closest to a miracle box you'll get from me, which I'm calling (as of now) Heavenly Light, Hellish Shadow. It's a box meant for the seven sins and the seven virtues, direct contrasts. I figured it'd work well with the kwami system I have, plus, why the fuck not?
Anyway, I might get around to making the seven virtues. We'll see

On your mention of how Chesed and Hong Lu are likely to sync up - I bring a question of what Sin it'll end up representing? Given how so far it seems to represent their vices of the past their moving past.
Hokma and Heathcliff had Sloth in Pigrata
Binah and S had Pride in Superbia
And I'm of the opinion Chesed and Hong Lu shall then share the sin of Lust in Luxuri - with a secondary pick of Gloom in Morositas though I am not as confident in that assertion.
It's honestly a bit hard to choose tbh. The previous two Saplings show that it doesn't have to be a Sin that the character in question has in their Base kit, so it's a lot harder to predict.
Plus, are the Sins actually representing their past, or are the Sins the ones their resolution embodies? The Sin they have to learn to wield to keep moving forward? That would fit with what we see as well...
Both Heathcliff and Hokma have to learn the Sloth necessary to step back from trying to hold onto the past that's not here anymore and simply accept what has happened.
Both Sancho and Binah have to learn the Pride necessary to believe they have the ability to go against insurmountable odds and achieve something impossible.
It would also explain why they're not Sins they have in their Base kits, as they're not Sins they actually commited in their past, but ones they have to learn to utilize in the first place!
So... let's look at Chesed a bit closer to try and figure out what Sin his resolution would fit.
Chesed is introduced as someone who has lost all hope for things getting better, he's shown to feel like no matter what he does, he won't be able to change anything. So, instead of trying to break the cycle, he hides behind a mask of faux kindness and perpetuates the violence within Lobcorp. He continues to follow Angela's orders, and lies to both himself and others, as he feels like no matter whether he's truthful or not they'll all die anyway. He's cornered, feeling hopeless.
The lesson he learns during his meltdown (which takes the form of him trying to rebel and throwing a tantrum in the process), and the one he imparts onto Roland in Ruina, is "knowing shame" as he phrases it. The idea that simply knowing shame for one's actions, knowing that one is a coward perpetuating violence through obedience and deception, is enough to begin the change for the better.
After his meltdown, Chesed knows he's a coward. He knows he won't be able to always be brave the way he was during that outburst. But the sole fact that he knows that is enough to let him start improving, to have hope for things getting better, and to stop lying to himself. He becomes one of Those who are Faithful and Trustworthy.
So... How exactly does one translate this concept into a Sin? What would the realization that knowing one's flaws and shame for one's actions is what can help one begin to change count as?
...I have two possible options. One which focuses more on the knowing shame aspect, and one which focuses more on the inspiring change aspect.
The first option is Envy - Invidia.
Limbus Company potrays Envy as a Sin of a lack of self-worth, a sense of self-consciousness so debilitating one begins to covet what other has, to act and mimic whoever they see as someone who has what they don't. It's shown to be the opposite of Pride, which is a Sin caused by an excess of self-confidence rather than a lack of it.
The act of knowing shame for one's shortcomings, and thus being pushed to try and become better can be read as a heavily Envy-coded act. In fact, it could even be read as just a positive interpretation of how Envy in general is potrayed in Limbus!
Then there's the second option, one which also carries a major caveat with it. Wrath - Ira.
Wrath in Limbus is a bit all over the place, but it's primarily about change. About feeling trapped or restrained in some way, and wishing to break out of that at all cost. Notably, while it's not directly associated with anger, frustration and impatience are both common themes for it. It's shown to be the opposite of Sloth, which is a Sin caused by resignation and unwillingness to change.
Chesed being potrayed as Wrath would symbolize two things - one would be the initial act of rebellion, the initial moment of running out of patience and the decision to no longer by trapped by the cycle one perpetuates. The other would be the following strive to change, to keep becoming better, that one will be able to break out eventually no matter what it takes.
This is, however, where I have to touch upon a caveat about this interpretation - Gebura. Gebura is very likely going to be the Sapling that directly follows Chesed's, and it's exceedingly straightforward - it's about knowing where to direct one's anger, to learn to use wrath in a productive manner that doesn't just destroy, but also protects. Gebura literally uses the word wrath when describing what Roland has to learn in Ruina.
To let Chesed be represented by Wrath, Gebura would have to somehow end up being something else. This, I realize, is a very difficult assumption to make... But also not impossible.
While thinking this caveat over, I figured out what possible Sin Gebura could represent instead in this situation - Lust, Luxuria. Limbus characterizes Lust as a Sin of wishing of desire for something unattainable, often used to mean a desire for a connection with another person. One could spin Gebura's lesson to be about utilizing Lust, that even if protecting someone might not be possible, it's something one must always strive for when directing their anger.
It's... a bit of a stretch, I will admit. But it is an option.
And, an important part of all this is that not only does Base Hong Lu lack both Envy and Wrath, his Base E.G.O is fatal to both. I just think it'd be neat if one of those turned out to be a correct one.

okayyy fuck it its time to limbus company theorypost on main im freeing myself from my anonymous mask. exactly one person will know what i mean by that. anyways
so. sapling of light huh. dante getting powers based off the sephirot. very cool and normal and in no way has huge lore implications.
so number 1 thing here is that the powers are based off the sephirot meltdowns. pigritia was slowing down time like hokma’s meltdown and superbia makes ego easier to use like binah’s meltdown reward, so for now im sticking to this pattern until i am proven wrong.
number two: the names are latin words for sins, and they are also sins that are affiliated with the sephirot (hokma wanted to stay in the loop forever, thus sloth/pigritia. binah has immense amounts of pride as an arbiter, thus superbia)
so based off these two things, have these predictions for the rest of the tree:
Chesed-Morosita (Gloom)-Change all resistances to “Endured/Ineffective” for a turn or change all enemy resistances to “Weak/Fatal” for a turn OR restore sanity over time
Gebura-Ira/Iracundia (Wrath)-Increase ally damage output x2
Tiphereth-Acedia (Apathy)-Grant all allies an unbreakable shield for one turn
Netzach-Gula/Gulatia (Gluttony)-Recover % of max hp for all Sinners (could be either single turn or multi turn)
Hod-Luxuria (Lust)-Give a ton of offence, defence and other miscellaneous level ups or give the enemies a bunch of power downs and debuffs
Yesod-Invidia (Envy)-Stagger all enemies for a turn
Malkuth-Avaritia (Greed) or Vanagloria (Vainglory)-Either swap all Sinners currently in battle with the backups or add new skills to the enemy roster that are solely beneficial for you and forces them to use it (this one is probably the toughest, randomising work buttons doesnt exactly translate into combat abilities imo)
reasons for picking the sins i did:
Gloom for Chesed: honestly his story is more about fear than gloom but its the closest thing we have so far. also blue.
Wrath for Gebura: come on man this should be obvious
Apathy for Tiphereth: lack of expectations for life
Gluttony for Netzach: the alcohol and the plant/leaf vibes. also haha green
Lust for Hod: her desire to be a good person. also orange and her bleed-centric ruina floor
Envy for Yesod-haha purple (this ones probably wrong and i 100% not be mad about it if it is)
Greed/Vainglory for Malkuth: cause they were the only ones left. and also vainglory fits for her confidence in herself
