“Now, the Collapse is upon us. And when a nation that has never known hunger or desperation descends into madness, we’ll be ready.” Cregan reaches for the table holding the projector next to Jace and grabs something from it. The box. He hears it in his nightmares, sometimes he thinks he hears it while he’s awake. Following him over the hills and through the trees. Never letting him go. 

Cregan’s eyes never left him, focusing on him so completely that everything else disappeared. He fiddled with the music box, turning the crank before flipping it so it faced Jace. “We cull the herd. We will do what needs to be done.”

And everything disappeared in a haze of red.

monday june 5: lust - 

(latin: luxuria "carnal") lechery; intense longing or unbridled sexual desire.

tuesday june 6: gluttony - 

(latin: gula) is the overindulgence and overconsumption of anything to the point of waste.

wednesday june 7: greed -

(latin: avaritia) also known as avarice, cupidity, or covetousness; hoarding of materials or objects, theft, and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority.

thursday june 8: sloth -

(latin: tristitia, or acedia "without care") laziness, idleness, and indolence; affectlessness, a lack of any feeling about self or other, a mind-state that gives rise to boredom, rancor, apathy, and a passive inert or sluggish mentation. 

friday june 9: wrath -

(latin: ira) can be defined as uncontrolled feelings of anger, rage, vengeance, and even hatred. it can manifest in different ways, including injury, impatience, hateful misanthropy, revenge, and self-destructive behavior, such as drug abuse, or suicide.

saturday june 10: envy -

sunday june 11: pride -

The first time they met, Aemond tried to drown him. Boney hands digging into soft shoulders, bruising and tainting. Water down throats, choking and suffocating. The Bliss in the water made everything fuzzy, white sparks floating across his vision.  It was cold on the riverbank, colder still in the river. The only light was coming from the headlights of a cult van, shining directly onto the congregation gathered near the water. Big sky country. Jace finally understood why it was called that. It was…unnerving to be in such an open area, only surrounded by trees. He was used to cluttered streets and high-rises, not open skies and empty fields. He had never seen anything clearer than the night sky in Montana, the stars shining so brightly, a beacon to all those looking for home.
