MY SUPER MARIO MOVIE REVIEW (SPOILERS AHEAD)
Okay, so I have finally composed myself and I will say…man…the Mario movie was fun!
My overall review is its very funny, full of heart and the animation is gorgeous. There’s a lot of unexpected scenes that I found heartwarming and added to the characters/ plot.❤️
However…that being said…the pacing and script is my main concern. I know they have to fit a large chunk of lore for a good runtime, but there isn’t much development.
“But Moon, mario wasn’t all about story” I know, but a movie provides a chance to add story at a cinematic level.
Expanding the world and if not that the characters. If anything, I do not mind the simple plot. Mario needs to save Luigi and work alongside Princess Peach to defeat Bowser. Perfect.
However. I would have really liked more expanded characters. But I will elaborate below because that’s not my only critique.
Beyond here will be spoilers, read at your own risk!! My blog will start reposting/ talking about spoilers from here and now since it’s officially out!
***
CONS/ WHAT I WISH IT HAD MORE OF:
-I wish the bros got more screen time. Their chemistry and brotherly love was amazing, and I was itching to see more of them together.🥺
-that fight at the end with Bowser tho WAS EPIC! But Luigi was super underutilized omg… I really thought he was gonna have another role in the movie. I think they missed out on the side characters having more of a role or even a conversation…
-Speaking of which, idk, I found Lumalee kind of annoying. I know it’s probably going to set up a future movie…but I thought at least we would get some insight as to why the Luma was captured, why it hates living so much, idk….lol. But I did love the voice of Lumalee, super cute :)
-characterization. Apart from Mario and a LITTLE of luigi, and DK, the rest felt bland… I feel like bowser could have been more fleshed out (but don’t get me wrong, I loved how he had a crush on peach, his song and planned on marrying her. AHHH I LOVED IT) toad could have been more fleshed out. What are his goals at least? Not every character has to have an internal conflict, but he just felt…there. And what a shame because hes charming!
-okay guys, but peachs characterization. I’m sorry, this deserves its own post, so I will hyperlink it here when I finishing writing that, but omg yeah I am not quite attached to her portrayal yet😅 what a shame too because I love her so much…
-wish we spent some more time getting to know Mario’s family😭
-not a fleshed out ending. Hoped that peach would have reacted being on earth, maybe a montage of Brooklyn adjusting to having this pipe that leads to another world. What was the cities response overall when it came to cleanup? I know they have HAD to had some questions why a huge gorilla with a tie was there…and talking! Lol…
now… drumroll please…
***
POSITIVES/ WHAT I FREAKIN LOVEDDDDD:
-Mario. Omg they freakin ACED Mario. His character flaws, his goals, aspirations, internal conflict, personality, everything I headcanoned/ hoped for. He’s a goofball who loves adventure, plumbing and loves his family. His determination, stubbornness, (RIZZ HE GOT THAT RIZZ!!!) and charm. Ugh. That affirms it. He’s my fav. I wanted to hug him through the screen many times SO BAD!!!🥺❤️
-luigi and Mario’s brotherly love/chemistry. Omg. The flashback of them as babies and when Mario was cupping Luigi’s face and almost crying out of relief. Like omg omg I’m so happy to that attention to detail😭🥺❤️ they love each other so much it’s just… *chefs kiss* I’m hoping for future movies we get more brotherly scenes, I’m still waiting for that piggyback ride🫶❤️
-baby peach. I just…I wasn’t expecting it. She was so cute and the fact that the toads just adopted her and raised her as their own tells goes sweet they are. 🥹 I’m so glad we got some of a backstory for her! But Omg…she was someone’s child then! :o I love lore…
-bowsers singing and the song peaches is a legit masterpiece. If my man don’t make a song like this and doesn’t sing it with that much enthusiasm I don’t want him!!😤😤😂💞but yep Jack black was awesome hehe he had me dying of laughter and he was super intimidating as Bowser!! He understood the assignment 💅🏼
-which reminds me. I love the plot of Bowser wanting to marry Peach and getting jealous of Mario. I wish we got Mario’s reaction of peach wearing the wedding dress tho I don’t think it really hit him that Bowser was trying to marry Peach…
- speaking of which…Mareach! We got a few cute scenes!! Nothing major, but I see that they are making it a slow burn romance 😏😂 okay, I can wait! While I wish we got more scenes, I loved how DK called out Mario’s attempts at flirting, Peach calling him adorable when he had his cat suit🥺🥺 and her giggles when Mario promises to buy her a pet turtle if she comes to Brooklyn. That was so freakin cute!!!❤️❤️🥹 you can tell Mario likes her, and peach has a fondness for him :)))
-CAT MARIO WAS SO ADORABLE DID YOU SEE WHEN HE BEAT DONKEY KONG HE WAS KNEEDING ON HIM LIKE A CAT WOULD AHHHHH-
-the animation and the storyboarding. Everything art related. The score. I wanted to fly when I heard bowsers theme. I wanted to cry seeing the beautifully crafted action scenes and I can’t wait to see the storyboards 😭❤️ illumination went all the way!!! Also the character design!!! I love all of their designs!!!
-the pop songs were a nice touch and the humor was great. :3
-SEEING MARIOS FAMILY AND THE FACT THAT CHARLES PLAYS THEIR DAD IS SO ADORABLE AND AWESOME I WAS FREAKIN FANGIRLING!!!
-also like I headcanoned THEIR MAMA IS SO ADORABLE I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! No wonder they came out as sweet incredible boys 🥺🧡
-the soundtrack man. They were cooking up in the studio I’m telling you!!! I heard it’s on Spotify now so I’m gonna be listening to it lol
-luigi is so precious but I wish HE HAD MORE SCREENTIME
-DK and Mario’s relationship give me rowdy sibling vibes and I’m here for it
-I love how they can travel from Brooklyn to mushroom kingdom through the pipe, at first I thought it was a star VS the forces of evil thing and the worlds merged until I realized the ending… XD
-I loved all the voices!! I think everyone did an amazing job, I heard a few inconsistencies throughout the movie but meh, everyone seemed excited for their roles!!!🧡🫶
If I can think of anything else I will add, but yeah, I think I had higher expectations for the movie😅 I think if it had a bit more time to flesh out characters, it would have been SUPER great. I loved all the references inside the movie, you can tell it was crafted with passion and love❤️ it was a very fun experience and of course the BRAINROT increased💞
Of course, this is my personal opinions and such, if you have a different one, that's fine! This is just what I would liked to see/ what I thought would have been better in the movie. That’s all!! :3

Imagine a herd of cattle breaking out of a confined area and scattering all over the place. Then there's a ranger who's trying to corral everything back into that one area from which the cattle escaped.
That's me while trying to write this review about the Super Mario Bros Movie. I have so many topics I want to address but have no idea how to put it all together. 😔

Why I love Movie Princess Peach?
Princess Peach has always been my favorite childhood crush when I fell in love the with the Mario franchise and games despite her many kidnappings by Bowser.
Princess Peach has been my definition of a princess in my childhood alongside Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White, & some of the Barbie movies I saw.
When The Super Mario Bros Movie. Trailer dropped back in 2022, this version of Princess Peach now a badass really changed my life and the way I view the character of Princess Peach when I look back on her on the video games is kinda hard to associate the movie with the actual canon games.
Anya Taylor Joy’s voice direction of Peach makes me really fall in love with this version of her and Anya Taylor Joy herself she sounds like a natural born leader like any princess should be but somehow still compassionate and caring just like her original video game counterpart.
What I’ve really love about this version of Peach is that not only that she is skilled in combat as she showed Mario through the training course but that doesn’t make her arrogant but she remains kind and compassionate to all of her friends especially to Mario.
My favorite part about Movie Peach is that she declares that she’ll never marry Bowser as she took out the Ice Flower just to freeze him and that scene really made me simp for her even more alongside her using her motorcycle in the Mario Kart Rainbow Road scene.
I’ve even imagined and used Princess Peach in my stories that are filled with new adventures and even meeting new friends in different crossovers alongside Daisy, Rosalina, & the new princess Belle Bottom.
Movie Princess Peach will always be my Princess Peach now for the time being no disrespect on the game version of Princess Peach but this version of Peach made me realize how sexiest I was to some female characters such as Amy Rose and Cream The Rabbit who was my favorite character in the Sonic franchise and it was made me realize how these types of female characters that I love can empower different types of women.
Movie Peach will always be MY Peach and no one will tell me otherwise.

The Best Movies I've Watched This Week
This past week, Monday through Friday, I've been watching movies. These are my thoughts of each of them.
--------------------------------------------------
Morbius - Average vampire movie, Awful Marvel film
Watching this one felt like such a drag, a real slog through pretty generic superhero origin stories. Got bored at one point and looked into the real Morbius, which is when I asked myself, "Why?" Like, why did they make a movie about a comic book vampire that looks like a less entertaining MoistCr1tikal? Why would you make the infirmed kid grow up to be a serial killer and act so whiny because his best friend didn't want to play vampires with him? Also, why did this experiment have to take place at sea with NONE OF THE EQUIPMENT SECURED, DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR ADRIFT MEANS, SHIPMATE- Khm! Excuse me. Lost myself there. All in all, I wouldn't really bother this one. At least not until the last few minutes WHEN VULTURE SHOWS UP?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!
(4/10) Not enough morbs, even with so much time.
--------------------------------------------------
The Super Mario Brothers Movie - Exactly what I thought, and so much more!
When the movie was first announced, it received mixed reviews. On the one hand, we're getting a Super Mario movie with Charlie Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser! On the other hand, we're getting a Super Mario movie with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anna Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. Finally seeing it, I actually enjoyed it, though I do have my gripes, the biggest of them being the cast they chose. Over time I kinda started to get what they were going for with Mario; Chris Pratt playing the everyman, which actually works well since that's actually who Mario has been since the original Super Mario Brothers game. And, actually, Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong surprisingly made sense for his character, which, let's be honest, DK totally would be a showboating Kong celebrity. But, alas, my biggest gripe unfortunately still stands; Anna Taylor Joy as Princess Xena Warrior Princess #Number. I get that they were going for a professional/regal person, which she does fine, but... That's not really what Princess Peach from what I saw. She was all business and serious, which isn't the same Princess I've seen and played. Honestly, if they had a scene where she decks a troop of Koopas while drinking tea, I would have bought the role, but... She didn't, so I didn't. Bowser being hopelessly in love with Peach while throwing his weight around, Luigi being a timid scaredy-cat while looking for his brother; both spot on and having Po and that one nutcase from Always Sunny fit BEAUTIFULLY for these characters. And, of course, all the little references, too. Which, speaking of, I have one last question to ask; why didn't they have Cranky Kong, the biggest nostalgia crybaby, not make any sort of critique on anything other than "my son is a fat-headed idiot"?
(7/10) A fun trip through eight worlds but try not to get lost in the monumental cast.
--------------------------------------------------
Venom: Let There Be Carnage - I am SHOCKED how much I liked this movie!
When I first saw, well, the first Venom, I liked it, even if I couldn't see most of it. Unfortunately, when I looked for cool quotes from the movie, I got edgelord dialogue, which was... Ugh. When I heard Carnage was going to be in this PG-13 sequel, I had concerns, mostly because I'm a huge Carnage fan. Finally sitting down and watching this sequel, though, I... Well, I said it before; I am shocked at how much I love this movie! Really! The theme for this one was about relationships, which Venom and Eddie show so well; I can see why everyone said this was just one big rom-com superhero flick. Everything about their relationship screams with details of how their dynamics work; the in-fighting, the separation helping them grow as individuals, and their synchronized dialogue is all so entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, as much as they fixed from the last movie, they still couldn't fix the biggest one, which was Eddie Brock. Just... Eddie Brock. He's still the same sweaty, timid loser. He looked like he was about to throw up throughout the entire movie. Also, Carnage is in a PG-13 movie... Oh, shit, I just realized the F-word rule! They used it perfectly! Holy shit!
(8/10) If you aren't willing to eat heads with your spouse after this one, are you really symbiotic?
--------------------------------------------------
Kung Fu Panda 4 - This McDojo just keeps rolling...
I'm not gonna sugar-coat it. This is probably the worst film I watched this week, and it's mostly because I went into this expectations of it being an at least decent film. Running on the cinema flavor of the year, "Passing the torch," Po must retire as Dragon Warrior and become the next Oogway. While searching for his successor, he meets a thief named Zhen, who I honestly loved watching play off with Po. Their chemistry is so hilarious to watch with Po as the innocent man-child and Zhen as the street-smart con artist. I'd love to see more of their dynamic. That said, it doesn't change that this film is easily the weakest of this Kung Fu Quartet. The villain is The Chameleon, whose motivation is so transparent, it's honestly insulting that they didn't use as a joke in this film. Oh, and Tai Lung is back, which is great seeing him come back and, y'know, be Tai Lung, but it's also obvious nostalgia bait when you realize that they only brought back Tai Lung. Sure, Shen and Kai make a come-back, but it's not as important as Tai Lung... or Scott, for that matter. And the worst sin of all in this is Master Shifu, who has stopped being the "gruff, yet wise elder" and is now just "mean old man". The only reason Shifu is in this film is because Po needs to be nagged at because his dads aren't doing it. Oh, and by the way, if you want to see two people acting like a married couple without being married, it's these two. Seriously, half the film is them chasing after Po while being the best of friends/roommates/business associates you will ever see. Oh, and the Furious Five are here, too... Technically.
(4/10) This film is like a dumpling... I've never had dumplings.
--------------------------------------------------
One Piece: Stampede - A pirate adventure with an easy-to-follow treasure map.
I am a huge fan of One Piece. Heck, I'd even go as far as to say that it's one of my favorites. That being said, while I enjoyed this film, parts of it did feel a little predictable. The villain wants to prove he's the strongest, while the other villain wants to show up Roger by creating a new era where it's basically a free-for-all between Douglas Bullet and the rest of the world. Honestly, I feel like this movie was just for the cameos, which are usually some of the worst parts of these films lately. It's not as bad as Gold, but I've seen it done better in another film (stay tuned). But I had fun, and that's what really matters, right? Right?
(6/10) Come aboard and leave behind all your depth and charm~!
--------------------------------------------------
One Piece: Red - One Piece has gone Disney in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE!
Just like the previous film, this One Piece movie has a lot of cameos. However, UNLIKE the previous film, the cameos are used perfectly! Everyone has a role to play, no matter how small it is. The villain of this film, Uta, has a relatable goal, even if her power is unrelatable. Honestly, Tot Musica isn't the wildest concept in a world like One Piece when you have people gaining powers by eating fruit, a bear and a deer can talk and do Kung Fu by two different methods for each, and you can ignore whatever you want by simply believing it can't happen. Honestly, Uta kinda feels like a music-streamer, like IronMouse or Nyanners, and her motivation to create a world free of strife is so heartbreaking. Oh, and yes, I've been arguing this in my head for about ten minutes and I can definitely say that this movie is a musical, since each musical number serves a purpose in the film. And each one is a bop, and if it ain't a bop, then it's bringing me to tears. That or it's setting the tone by summoning Tot Musica. The only gripe I have is with the ending because... It's just too darn sad. Granted, it's not canon, but Uta is, and... I dunno. Oh, and Shanks is here, too, and... Yeah! That is definitely what I'd expect Shanks to do! Heck, it's what I expect any of them to do! This movie does the cameos right, it does the music right, and the only thing I don't think it does right is the ending. Oh, and Sunny Go is a plush baby.
(9/10) And the melody will last forever in your...

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
I finally finished this one after stopping in disgust for a long time, and it turns out, no, it doesn't get better towards the end.
Boy, this movie is like, the platonic ideal of the C grade. It does everything just exactly well enough that you have to admit that it's passable, and no better.
Ever.
For pretty much the whole movie.
Like imagine a thermometer with a line labelled "Passable" and the mercury is exactly level with that line and you whip out an electron microscope and zoom in and the mercury isn't even a single nanometer above or below the line.
I really thought I had calibrated my expectations fully, I've watched and enjoyed animated movies that I would describe as middle of the road. I watched Trolls World Tour and My Little Pony: The Movie and The Bad Guys and had a good time with all of them despite the fact that they were far from being masterpieces.
But most mediocre movies come in sort of waves, dipping beneath the level of passable at times but then occasionally cresting above the passable line to become, in fits and starts, better than passable. Just the sheer joy of human creativity should carry most movies along to moments like that but The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a glass flat pond.
It's as though some Maxwell's Demon of Mediocrity went through it and made sure that not one single atom more than it needed to be exactly passible ever got through.
As somebody who likes movies and creativity it somehow manages to be less then the sum of its parts because watching it you see all these moments where the movie is a boulder balanced on this knife edge of possibility and it would only take the tiniest whisp of angel's breath to push it past passable into "Actually pretty good" but the angels hold their breath and the boulder remains still.
It's genuinely infuriating, because you constantly think that surely the next scene will have a single clever joke or little moment that you could latch onto and say, "For those two seconds it was more than just passable" and it never comes.
This eventually inspires a kind of awe, that any corporation could so efficiently and exactly suck all the soul and unpredictability out of a movie while still leaving the exact minimum level of quality needed to make $1 Billion at the box office.
As a movie though I would call it passable.
Rating: A uniform quantity of argon gas at room temperature.

Top 10 WORST Movies of 2023
For every good movie there’s always a dozen stinkers, and 2023 brought out a lot of turkeys, and I’m not referring to all the poor birds that ended up in our bellies this Christmas season. It’s become a tradition for me every year to do a top 10 best and worst movies of the year list, and I tend to leave the top 10 best list till later as I catch up will the awards potentials, however with the bad list I get right on into it. There are of course many bad movies this year I didn’t see, as I don’t actively seek out to watch the bad ones, but I have heard that these following haven’t been the best: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Marvels, Indiana Jones 5, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Expend4bles, Children of the Corn, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey…… damn, a lot of films got a bad rep this year. Yet I have 10 other ones that I’ve seen that I thought were crap. Don’t worry if a film you loved ends up on this list, it will simply mean your opinion is wrong and your have to live with that. With that in mind, here’s my humble list of the shit-fest Hollywood had to offer in 2023…
10) ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA - Everything that is wrong with the current state of Marvel is exhibited on full display here. Lacking a sense of direction and exploiting the idea of the multiverse just for the sake of it, the movie is a dud. It feels like whilst trying to focus on going bigger and bolder, the movie lost the sense of fun that elevated the earlier instalments in the tiny hero’s franchise. Paul Rudd is still as charming and likeable as ever, however the introduction of Kang as the next MCU Big Bad is pointless seeing as this big baddie can be defeated by a bunch of ants. Don’t make no difference now anyway with Jonathan Majors losing the court case, but who in the first place thought “oh yeah, Kang is a badass who killed many Avengers, but a giant head of Corey Stoll should weaken him no problem”. Look, there’s no sugarcoating it - this movie is bad. Also, Bill Murray appears in this because…?
9) THE BEANIE BUBBLE - Zack Galifianakis without any facial hair is truly a sight to behold, but that’s not enough to make this fluffy yet bland behind-the-scenes look at the famous Beanie Babies toys even remotely interesting. It’s as if this film can’t bear (thank you) to show the creepier side of these toys, as this should have been a more darker and messed up tale, especially with the lightly implied institutional sexism. Oh well, that’s that then.
8) WE HAVE A GHOST - If ever there was a movie that fit more to the phrase “Netflix & Chill” then this is it, as you will be too busy banging your partner or your sock than caring about a silent speechless David Harbour creeping about Casper-like and being all quiet and mysterious. To be fair he’s the only redeemable quality as the rest of the movie is a mishmash hodgepodge of genres that is neither funny, nor effective in its family drama dynamic. At least seeing Jennifer Coolidge jump out a window was mildly amusing. Mildly. Anyway, where’s that sock?
7) THE OLD WAY - It is truly fascinating that after starring in over 100 films, this is Nicolas Cage’s first ever western. Aside from that mind boggling revelation, this movie comes out with less than a bang. I don’t know, I was hoping for something a bit more mad, especially with Cage’s involvement. Heck, in the movie’s opening sequence Nicolas Cage is introduced with a sprawling Poirot-like moustache, and immediately I assumed that I am in for something ridiculous. However following that scene the movie cuts to 20 years later, and with that both the moustache and the hope for something exciting or weird is diminished to singular unseen atoms.
6) FOOL’S PARADISE - The directorial debut from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day (who also writes and stars), misfiring Hollywood satire Fool’s Paradise wastes a strong ensemble cast that also includes Adrien Brody, Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Kate Beckinsale, Ken Jeong, Common, John Malkovich and the late Ray Liotta. Look, in a way I feel bad about including this film on this list, as you can tell this is a true passion project for Day and one that has good intentions by attempting to go back to the old-school slapstick Charlie Chaplin-era of comedy, with a lighthearted satire on the way the film industry works. In this case the result is neither sweet nor funny enough, and as such it’s an unfortunate misfire, but easily the most disappointing inclusion on this list.
5) GHOSTED - Adrien Brody’s crappy French accent in this movie I could have forgiven, if only I have not seen John Wick: Chapter 4 a couple of weeks prior where I experienced the most delightful Parisian mouthing of Bill Skarsgard’s villain, so now Brody’s French-ish slur sticks out like a sore thumb. What else sticks out is that Ghosted feels like a film from the early 2000s, featuring every cliche of the genre and with a romantic pairing of Chris Evans and Ana de Armas whom share zero chemistry. Their kissing scenes reminded me of that Andrew Garfield/Emma Stone SNL sketch where they don’t know how to kiss on camera, only in this case it’s unintentional. Also featuring a slew of pointless cameos, and I do mean pointless, this is a throwaway campy spy-action flick that is destined to be forgotten.
4) THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - Billed as the true sequel to William Friedkin’s original horror masterpiece, it really shouldn’t have strived for that. Ellen Burstyn’s return is a waste. For those excited to see her, she’s only in 3 or 4 scenes total, and the creative choices made with her character are such a disservice to the original movie. Without spoiling, it’s a choice that seems to be inspired by the modern woke culture, with Burstyn’s Chris having being studying the art of exorcism ever since the events that transpired with her daughter, and then when questioned about why she herself did not partake in her daughter’s exorcism she blames the patriarchy. The choice of bringing her into this narrative and then what happens to her…it’s basically taking a classic character and making them dumb. I must say though that the only actual shocking moment in the movie comes in a scene involving her character, and though that moment itself is memorable, the build up towards it is so stupid. Also, with the return of Burstyn it comes as no surprise within the movie when a certain other character pops in for a cameo. Does it add anything to the movie’s story? No, it’s just there for cheap fan service. As for the movie itself, the horror hardly works. It’s not scary at all and you really shouldn’t believe in this one.
3) THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE - Yeah, I know, my inclusion of this film on the list will rattle some feathers, but I don’t care, as for any of you pricks out there thinking that stupid “Peaches” song deserves an Academy Award nomination, you guys are stupid and must be high on some very powerful shrooms. If so, I hope you’re having a great trip, but the fact stands that this movie is bad. Simply doing fan service for the sake of fan service don’t make for a good narrative. Me and my friend were bored throughout, as this movie is 100% for kids. There are nostalgic elements to it all, but I do believe that Illumination and Nintendo should have followed more in The Lego Movie’s footsteps and targeted the film for audiences of all ages, due to the fact that many who grew up with Mario are now adults themselves.
2) LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND - So much wasted potential. A long drawn-out slow shuffle to Nowheresville. A movie that offers so many ideas, plot points, and thread lines that are never answered or go anywhere. In Leave the World Behind things are truly happening under the motto “just because” and “why the hell not” and it makes the viewing experience immensely frustrating. Especially when the movie is nearly 2 and a half hours long and the anticlimactic abrupt ending is a slap to your face for wasting your time. Oh, and if I weren’t a fan of the Friends show before, now more so than ever.
1) 65 - Right ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to ask you all so kindly to rise up from your seats and give a humongous round of applause to 65 - the 2023 film to exhibit qualities of a top contender of the worst movie of this year. Look, I’m disappointed as you are. Adam Driver fighting dino-dinos’?! You’d be a madman to not want to see that! However here’s 65′s first mistake: there actually aren’t that many dinosaurs, let alone fights with them. I know right, I can sense the resounding aura of you, my kind audience, in unison thinking “what the f***?”. Exactly, what the fudge indeed. No, instead what we get is a couple of somewhat thrilling dinosaurs interactions, but overall the movie is just Adam Driver and this little girl walking. Just walking. Walking and whistling. Bunch of jackasses.
That’s it - we did it! Now I can happily forget I ever watched any of these and mentally prepare for what wonders of stupidity 2024 will bring to the big screen. As for my Best Movies of 2023 list, don’t worry, it’s a-coming. Still need to watch The Boy and the Heron and Poor Things and then all will be revealed…

I’ve seen enough people…
Can we please stop the hate directed at Chris Pratt in regards to the Super Mario Bros Movie?
I just watched it and he did a WONDERFUL job! There are moments in the movie where I have problems with the voice acting, and Chris is not in any of them! Maybe he’s not the Mario we were expecting, but it was the Mario we deserved!!
I love that movie. Animation was GORGEOUS. Jack Black was AMAZING. Luigi’s character and voice actor were AMAZING. And Chris Pratt was AMAZING.
If you’ve got problems, you can share them without resorting to hate. I have no qualms. And I think everyone should watch the movie. It’s a lot of fun. Jack Black and Chris Pratt steal the show. :)

I saw the Super Mario Bros movie. Not gonna lie, as someone who tends to be harsh when it comes to movie reviews, the level of criticism that this movie got from critics is confusing to me. It was just a fun, lighthearted story about an Italian plumber and his friends fighting a dinosaur dragon, nothing that serious. But some of the reviews I’ve read are making this sound like the worst movie ever made.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but for the Mario movie, it’s best to watch it for yourself and to ignore the critics. I mean, the “A” grade from Cinemascore and the high audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes should be enough to tell you that there’s a divide between critics and audiences.

Gale reviews: Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Alright so I FINALLY saw the movie and after an ordeal with the AMC
I can finally give my thoughts on this movie.
So in order to properly rank this. I will put the following Categories.
Animation
Plot
Characters
Music
Fanservice
Lesson
And I will give my final score at the bottom. I will try not to get too spoiler heavy but spoilers below
And for those that dont want ANY spoilers. I will say it is a great kids movie go watch it
______________________________________________________________
Animation:
This movie is Absolutely Gorgeous. Every mushroom, every brick has been lovingly crafted. I LOVE the attention to details, I love how hard each hit feels in this movie. The Choreography in this and flow is incredible. Illumination's eye for visual slapstick is still on a league of its own and it fits very well with the movie.
The character expressions all flowed great and you felt sucked in by the expression. It was like watching a Mario game. Brooklyn, The Mushroom kingdom, The Dark Lands, The Ice Kingdom, The Kong kingdom and Rainbow road ALL felt distinct and flowed. I am IN LOVE with this movies asthetic. The action was perfectly paced, I would even say it matched and surpassed the flowing animation of Puss in boots Last wish.
10/10
____________________________________________________________
Plot
So its pretty straight forward, Bowser tries to take over the kingdom, and he needs to be stopped. Mario and Luigi end up sucked into the mushroom kingdom trying to make a name for themselves as plumbers and get separated.
Mario ends up meeting Toad, Peach and Donkey Kong and the crew end up fighting Bowser and Saving Luigi. It starts as a trip to get reinforcements to fight the koopa army, turns into a race on rainbow road, then turns into a fight at a wedding and then finally a showdown in Brooklyn.
Mario and Luigi save the day and end up finding a connecting route to the the Mushroom kingdom and Brooklyn.
Now there is a LOT that happens in between these plot points and I will say it does feel a bit fast at times. But It is entertaining, Mario and Peach bond. And the scale and excitement never decreases. It is solid.
7.5/10
I wish more time could be spent in some places but thats mainly a pacing thing. and its the only real gripe I have.

Characters
I think I will break this up into multiple sections.
Mario: I will say it, the previews took all the worst bits of Chris Pratt's VA work. Because he actually did a bang up job, I didnt hear Chris Pratt, I heard Brooklyn Mario (And the Accents are explained to be part of the commercial which has Charles cameo AMAZINGLY done)
I liked Mario's character, he was a guy that wanted to prove himself and doesnt know when to quit. Mario also doesnt like mushrooms, it was funny. He can get down on himself, but push comes to shove he is Mario and will do anything for those he loves. He has some cute bonding moments with Peach and they have a good chemistry, which I can say could be romantic or not, both are fine ways of interpretation. His goal and lengths he is willing to go to save his brother are great and I love it. Mario is great in the movie.
Peach: I will admit, I was worried on how they handled peach here. I knew they were going to make her a girl boss. And I do think that she is not as Feminine or Charming as what one would expect from Peach... BUT she has the good heart and cares for her subjects. Which Peach will be self sacrificing to help her people, but also will do what she can to mess with Bowser. As shown in her fight at the wedding. She and Mario got a good dynamic and I enjoy the roll. Though I do like that she isnt invincible, she can be outmatched and there are things even she thinks are too risky.
Luigi: I feel robbed. Not because Luigi's performance was bad, FAR FROM IT. I wanted MORE Luigi. Luigi was captured for most of the movie and had the funniest bits. He also had his big hero moment and really helped drive home one of the big lessons. I am glad that he is supportive of brother and he thinks he is the coolest guy. The characterization of Luigi was PERFECT. But as mentioned before, I wanted more of him
Toad: He was a delight. I think he has great comedic moments and I love how he just claims Mario as his BFF. He gets really funny jokes and the bits are usually out of left field. My favorite has to be how he distracted the guards, I wont dare spoil it, but it involves a Frying pan.
Donkey Kong: I thought I would hate DK. I still am not sold on the voice... THAT BEING SAID. Donkey Kong being the show off big shot that cant see past his own ego and just wants his dad to be proud of him was not what I expected but enjoyed. He also has some good moments. One moment you think he is gonna bond with Mario over Dad issues but then left turn, he goes "Well your dad's right, you suck"
It just sort of works for them, they have this frenemies vibe that I love.
Bowser:
Bowser steals the movie. He is the funniest character. He is the best character. HE WROTE A LOVE BALLAD FOR PEACH called "Peaches". He is goofy yet Intimidating. Jack Black's voice for him was perfect and the Character acting was on point. Jack Black NAILED BOWSER. He is DEFACTO Bowser. I cant say enough of how amazing his bowser was. It was just so perfect.
The others: From Mario's extended family, The Koopas, Kamek, kranky, the Luma, The Penguins. I LOVED all the side characters. I cant name one I didnt enjoy. Shout out to the Blond Kong in a sports Blazer who casually caused a kart crash of a By-stander
Now Aside from Bowser I cant say the characters are deep, but they were not meant to be. They were what they needed to be. I enjoyed all the characters on screen and never felt myself loathing not seeing a certain character for longer.
solid 8/10 (Jack black and bowser are 10/10 tho)
______________________________________________________________ Music
So I wanted to give this a 10/10, but I cant.
I found some of the random 80's rock songs a bit out of place. It is Illumination.
But outside of those songs, when they are doing the mario music and themes they ARE GLORIOUS. Bowser's fury theme and the Remixed Star theme were my personal favorites
All of the mario music is beautifully crafted. You know papa nintendo made sure they did it justice.
Overall, 8/10
The 80's songs werent the worst pick but they werent needed. Should have just stuck with the mario stuff.
But... it is illumination.

Lesson
I wasnt expecting the Super mario bros Movie to have a lesson, and to my surprise it had 2 lessons.
Never give up. Mario shows throughout the entire movie his grit and determination no matter how much people look down on him or underestimate him. He got back up and kept fighting.
The power of Brotherly love. Luigi had faith in his brother who was always there for him. And he knew that things will be alright as long as they were together. And Luigi took it to heart, learning that what his brother said was true. Brotherly love made them invincible (well actually it was the power star, but it was because of that love they were able to get it.)
I am not gonna put it at the level of Puss in Boots the last wish. But its some good lessons
7/10
_____________________________________________________________
Overall, this movie, if you arent a Super Mario super fan, Is a solid 8/10
It has good characters, funny/hilarious slapstick and moments, fun action, and great for kids with a good lesson.
If you are a mario super fan (Like me)
Solid 9.5/10
I would watch it again no questions. I do wish it had more Mareach and Yoshi

A Review of “Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)”
I love the Kung Fu Panda trilogy! The 3rd movie felt like a nice wrap-up for the series. However, modern movie studios just can't give up on milking a franchise. Now we have a 4th entry in the series. Is this movie justified, or is it just another cash grab?
Jack Black is still great as Po. He still hasn't lost his charm and continues to deliver a hilarious and charismatic, vocal performance. I also love that his character Po is still a badass dragon warrior. He is always the most skilled fighter in the room and I am glad they didn't make him weaker for the sake of it. Awkwafina is again voicing another sidekick character. She is fine but that is mostly because her character isn't written to be unbearable and that makes Awkwafina bearable. Their characters do have a fun buddy dynamic throughout. Speaking of buddy dynamics, it was nice to see James Hong and Bryan Cranston return as Ping the Geese and Shan the Panda again. Po's fathers have their own, fun mini-adventure in the movie.
The animation is beautiful. Not to the extent of other dreamwork animated movies such as How to Train Your Dragon or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. However, it looks very appealing for the most part. The action scenes are still very entertaining with its well choreographed Kung-fu scenes. It was also nice to see Ian McShane return as Tai Lung even though it was clearly done for nostalgia bait.
Unfortunately, the story is predictable and boring. Po is required by Master Shifu to pick the next Dragon Warrior but Po doesn't want to and wants to remain the Dragon Warrior. This idea in itself, can be very interesting as he could potentially have to choose between his friends, The Furious Five. Sadly, they are not even in this movie so instead we get a new character in Zhen played by Awkwafina. Oh wow, I wonder who Po will pick…
Po and his dynamic with The Furious Five have always been a highlight but removing that, makes this less interesting. The villain, The Chameleon, is also extremely underwhelming. She can steal the Kung-Fu of martial artists, including previous movie villains. Her motives are weak and her presence is just not menacing enough. They try to say throughout that Po might finally meet his match but they don't do a good job of convincing us that this is true. If anything, the big final battle feels like the easiest fight that Po has ever had so far. How is The Chameleon a threat if the Furious Five weren't even needed?! Ke Huy Quan is also in the movie but his character has no depth at all so it feels like a glorified cameo. Additionally, many of the jokes didn't land. I hate that they leave awkward pauses cause they clearly thought we the audience would laugh.
Overall, this 4th movie had no reason to exist. The story is not meaningful enough to justify its existence. This will be the start of the second trilogy but the ending itself doesn't do much to make me interested in more. The ending is a fine ending to wrap up the series (again). Hopefully, the 5th entry is a lot better and this time, make sure The Furious Five are actually in the movie!
