The Morning After:

   Mario groaned, rolling over and slinging his blanket over him in an attempt to hide from the early morning sun as it peeked in past the bedroom curtains. From across the room he head Luigi moan.      "Why? Why did I listen to you last night? My head…" the younger twin bemoaned his fate and Mario silently agreed. It was the morning after their twenty-first birthday and under the watchful eyes of the twins, the bros had partied and gotten drunk together.    That with some bad comedy movies and the little group had had a great night. But now Mario was questioning if it was all worth it. A creak and pattering of slippered feet, sounds he knew well, caught his attention and drew him out of his puddle of misery.      "Hi Ma." he mumbled. Marianna chuckled softly, a pat on his covered shoulder. He peered out at her with a slight wry grin.      "Dad's gonna kill us, huh?"    She shook her head as she placed  bottles of ginger ale and water on the nightstand along with some crackers. "Not the first time we've had drunken twins in this home." she kept her laugh low, but her eyes and smile gave way the cheer of the old memories. "I can't exactly count how many times Tony and Art had to crash in the living room after partying here." she adjusted his blankets before going to check on Luigi and give him the same supplies.      "Your dad might give you a lecture but believe me, he's seen it all before. Long as you boys are safe," she leaned in and kissed Luigi's forehead. "That's all that matters. Now get some sleep, and there are buckets beside both your beds, just in case."      "Thanks, Ma." the bros chorused, Luigi adding in another moan as he dared reach for the water.      With an 'I love you, boys,' Marianna left, closing the door behind her. The two heard her saying something and their grandfather laughing in the hallway before they walked away.    The room fell silent, the only sound the traffic out on the street.      "Mario?"      "Yeah?"    The soft rustle of sheets. "Would you do this again?"    Pondering this, the older twin smirked to himself. "Maybe for New Years."    A weak laugh. "Think we can get Uncle Art and Uncle Tony to join us again?" It was Mario's turn to laugh and he winced. "Ow, Lu, don't make me laugh!" He thought it over. "Yeah, they'd join us. Auntie would kill Uncle Art, though."    He groaned again, hand to his head. "If we even make it to new years. Why did we do this, again?"      "Because it's fun to be stupid." His twin's deadpan reply sent Mario into giggles, which got Luigi giggling. Both quickly stopped as they realized the action made the room spin.      "Ugh, I need sleep. Lova ya, Lu." Mario rolled over, burying himself in the blankets.      "Love ya, too, big bro." Luigi muttered, beginning to drift off already. "Sweet dreams."      "Sweet dreams, Lu."
