This is, in part, thanks to the 18th-century Suffolk artists Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Long Melford was also one of the main filming locations for the BBC's 'Lovejoy' television series and has featured in historian Michael Wood's TV series 'The Great British Story, A People's History'.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The historic village boasts two large Tudor manor houses, an impressive village church, an eclectic main street full of independent shops, galleries, antiques centres, tea rooms, restaurants, hotels and pubs. As Good As Your Word. Some photographs from the Felixstowe Port protest a few weeks ago. After speaking with many of the workers that were protesting, I got to the heart of what was going on. I heard stories of broken promises and false information being delivered about profits and their pay, this wasn't a scenario of greedy dockers like what the papers were portraying but more the opposite. Those at the top gave minimal pay rises, if any, to a lot of workers with the guise of not being able to meet what they had been promised due to Covid having hit the port hard, but then after the most recent quarter, the published profits and bonuses of senior management showed a completely different story. They had made profits into the millions and this wasn't then shared down the chain as promised. You're only ever as good as your word and once that trust is broken, it takes a lot of time to rectify the wrongs. As such, it was a wealthy town and still contains some lovely old timber-framed houses with pargetting.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ However, as the cloth industry declined, so did Hadleigh. It wasn't until the age of the train that the town really prospered again. At that time, some of the older properties which had been neglected for centuries were re-fronted in Victorian style which gives Hadleigh the appearance of mixed architecture when in fact many buildings are medieval.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here's a photo of the Guildhall which is Grade I listed. It has three storeys and was built in the mid-15th century as the Market Hall with shops on the ground floor.
