Dragon At Rest. This beautiful dragonfly captured my attention as it perched on the end of a long leaf. The Broads, and some surrounding land, were constituted as a special area with a level of protection equivalent to a national park

People are at the heart of this Living Landscape.  Over 80,000 people live within walking distance and thousands more visit the area every year.

Painted In First Light. A red deer stag jogs across my position covered in the stunning light of dawn. Waking up to darkness at 3:30am to be in the car and en route by 4am was truly worth it. Arriving in the dark to get in place by dawn's first light paid off and I was able to position myself in the centre of a thornbush as I watched the glorious light of the morning arrive at the same time as this beautiful stag came into view. I was well camouflaged in the thornbush and it didn't really notice me, It came within 20 feet of my position as it passed. Silently Waiting. A red fox appears out of nowhere 😍 So, I was walking through some fields that had rough growth on the edges and I managed to see a pair of muntjacs, male and female, so I stopped in my tracks, found cover and kept edging closer to them. I got some great shots of them, then while I hid in the overgrowth just taking a moment to see if another muntjac might make an appearance, this red fox strolls in from a hole in the hedge. Peek-a-boo. I walked past this same log the other day and it reminded me of this precious moment where I'd photographed a stoat. I'd seen it run across this fallen log out of the corner of my eye from some 50 yards away. It then dived into a hole in the log. I got myself as close to the log as I could and held my lens in place because I knew that the slightest bit of movement would scare it off. So, an hour and a half had passed and I was still holding a large wildlife lens in place when suddenly this little beauty appears from behind the log. After around 15 seconds it darted into the undergrowth and I could finally lower my arms 😂 I was in so much pain from holding for the shot, but that was trounced by the absolute delight I felt in capturing this beautiful stoat. I couldn't believe I'd been there for an hour and a half, stood like a statue waiting for this special moment which eventually came. Casting Orange Light. A large Red deer stag standing in the beautiful warm light of the setting sun. Seeing these strong elegant creatures roaming in the countryside was a real treat. They carry such power but in a defined and controlled manner. In autumn the deer rutting season usually takes place and that's when you can see their raw power first hand. The rut is the mating season, which for red deer begins in September and lasts until around early November. During this time, competing males, pumped full of testosterone, will engage in a series of behaviours aimed at showing off to the females and establishing dominance over the other stags. Investigation of The Cutest Kind. When entering a field of sheep, I always try to keep a respectable distance. To my surprise and utter delight this sweet little one ran over to investigate me. Once it got close to me it then walked with a strut towards me, to show its authority of course 😅 It came so close, smelled me and gave me the once over, then bounded away back to its mother 😄 I love these little precious moments that the natural world gives me. A Surprising Delight. A little fawn steps out onto a path I happened to be looking down while I was sat on a fallen log. It was an area of the park that was far enough off the typical route people take and as it was so quiet this little fawn decided to take some footsteps out into the open. I'd been on my feet for around four hours at the time so I decided to have a little rest and a drink. Light On The Foot. A Red deer stag surprises me as it breaks cover, a matter of feet ahead of me. I thought I heard something moving in the forest and saw some squirrels running around among the leaf litter on the floor so assumed it was them. That's because when they ran up a nearby tree the noise stopped. Moments later I heard it again from behind and when I turned around I saw this male stag running towards me then it changed course to then run across my path. I just about managed to grab a photograph of this encounter.
