The more I think about it, the more I think that Persuasion has my favorite premise of all of Jane Austen's novels
Anne Elliot as a character speaks to my soul. She feels tremendous guilt for a decision she made eight years ago. Her life is lonely, as she doesn't really have anyone she can truly confide in despite being surrounded by people. So she swallows her pain, the yearning she feels deep in her soul, and vows that if nothing else at least she'll be helpful.
And of course she is reunited with Frederick Wentworth (the one that got away) who seems to hate her now, and she just keeps going. She keeps being kind and supporting her loved ones while slowly carving out a life for herself. There's something about her classic heroism that just feels so attainable. I don't have Elizabeth Bennett's wit, or Jane Bennett's unwavering belief in the goodness of everyone, or even Elinor's constant composure. But I can be like Anne and just keep moving forward attempting to be helpful
Of course it all works out in the end, and Anne is finally surrounded by people who truly appreciate her, even if she had to wait an extra eight years. Others have observed the fairy tale quality of the ending, and perhaps that's why it speaks to me. The idea that if you just keep doing your best and being kind, you'll eventually find happiness
#Would I say that Persuasion is my favorite of Jane Austen's novels?#I don't think ss#Pride and Prejudice is her most well written in my humble opinion#and i do with persuasion had more characters that were fully interesting individuals#and of course I would love more of an actual period of time where Anne and Wentworth are together in the narrative#since we never see what they're like as a happy couple or before their separation#(unlike Austen's other couples where you can see hints of their dynamic before they're together)#but the premise of persuasion is just so beautiful#persuasion#anne elliot#pride and prejudice#jane austen#cottagecore-raccoon

ORV is about enduring the horrors in real time.
(for @everyonesfavoritebastard)
#omniscient reader's viewpoint#kim dokja#yoo joonghyuk#I read a few arcs of ORV a few years back so I am at least loosely familiar with the characters and premise.#ORV dares ask the question: “what if you finally met your beloved blorbo who helped you cope through the horrors - and he *hates you*”#The reversal of what most people feel about some of their blorbos (love them but would never want to meet someone like that in person)#I would love to keep reading orv but it is very long and I already promised to finished like...3 other shows and several books.#my gesture of affection is consuming the media my friends care about. Alas I have none who are into orv to motivate me.#Also hey there raffle winner everyonesfavouritebastard - you gave no prompt at all so I took a random swing based on ur pfp and blog#I hope you like kim dokja! I am terribly sorry if you meant to leave a prompt and something glitched#EDIT: Found out raffle winner everyonesfavouritbastard didn't know it was a raffle. Homie...I'm So Sorry.#Now I *really* hope you like Kim Dokja.#You're so valid; I too would be mesmerized by the beauty of stackedbird's lovely little apple art.

something’s wrong?
#heheh what a name for a town. borger. brother that is a samdwich!!#I could prob talk about what this means to me but I don’t wanna#actually nvm I just thought of a funny way to describe the feeling:#you have two wolves inside of you. one HATES everything it sees soooo much. the other only sees beauty. you’re jaded.#or something like that#I’m trying to be conscious about only bending man-made structures and objects#unless it just looks extra cool to bend the natural stuff too#not rly a critical commentary. the basic premise is to show you how fucked up these little towns are;#while also communicating how they’re typically found in naturally beautiful places.#weird right? like finding ruins. it’s like these places settled and then worldly-priorities changed and everything fell apart#but you can tell - usually - that somewhere in the history of these small towns someone said:#‘what a fucking sweet view. let’s make camp’#my art#glitch art#aesthetic#art#artwork#webcore#glitchcore#internetcore#abstract#artists on tumblr#photography#abstract art#distortioncore#glitch#weird art#americana#southern gothic#angels

"The most radical thing I ever did was love him, and I wasn't even the first person in this story to do that. But you can get it right, if you try. You will have hope, and you have been forgiven.
Forgiveness, which takes you back to the person you were and lets you reset them. Hope, which exists in a future in which you are new. Forgiveness and hope are miracles. They let you change your life. They are time-travel."
Kaliane Bradley - The Ministry of Time
#the ministry of time#one of the best books i've read in years#chockful of beautiful prose and a compelling and mind-blowing romance wrapped in a time-travel premise#don't overlook this one#i too am in love with graham gore#will that be allowed?

i cannot find the post/tweet atm but that post that's like "[a] falls first but [b] falls harder isn't about [b] loving [a] more, it's about [a] getting so used to their (apparently unrequited) feelings it becomes the dull press of a bruise, versus [b] getting hit with a Feelings Realization Truck and immediately going completely insane about it. if they don't get to marry [a] TOMORROW they're going to start BITING PEOPLE" and i put tags like "this is tedependent. to me" and i am STILL THINKING ABOUT THIS. RANDOMLY AND UNPROMPTED. trent falls in love with ted first: and the love stays, but it becomes a low, constant white noise in his life, a background hum he can almost tune out; it's a candle flame burning gently in his chest, warm and constant but it still burns when he touches it. the dull press of a bruise. the resignation and acceptance that these feelings will never be returned, the love that asks for nothing and just enjoys being near him. meanwhile sometime in post-canon fix-it land or something ted's minding his own business when the anvil of Wait, Fuck, Am I In Love With Trent?? drops on his head with a loud BONK and he wakes up with a metaphorical goose egg and the revelation that wait, fuck, he IS in love with trent. so trent's over here with the slow, soft violins, fine with his little gay tragedy, because it doesn't feel so much like a tragedy when he's surrounded by a community he genuinely feels accepted in, and he's okay with the fact ted will never want him like that. and then in the next room ted is BARELY restrained from simply kool-aid-manning through the wall to propose to him on the spot. he's gonna start biting people and shaking them around like a dog with a chew toy if he doesn't get to kiss trent crimm on the mouth STAT. no but silliness aside really i can't stop thinking about that feeling of just accepting what the future has in store for you, that you'll never have what you truly want, that there's no hope, but getting to a place where you're okay with that, and then the love of your life/guy of your dreams suddenly is like "okay so i've thought about this long and hard and it turns out i'm like, mega in love with you. thoughts??????" i think ted has no idea trent's in love with him in this scenario btw. he's just hoping for the best. trent's his close friend and soooo beautiful and wonderful and maybe they could go on a date? (vibrating bc he cannot say he wants to spend the rest of his life with this man on a first date even if they have been friends for years) . what does trent even do with that. also if ted proposed to him he'd say yes
#the comedy and beauty of it#yes i am also thinking about that fic i wrote with a similar premise#tedependent#tedtrent#ted x trent#ted/trent#gertspeak#what even triggered this revelation do you think#funniest option is nothing. literally he was minding his own business and something in his brain casually went#btw we're in love with trent. anyway#and he was like HUH.#but also see: a) sees someone flirting with trent and gets insanely jealous and then is like hey. what. b) the classic 'has a fun dream'#and then wakes up going HEY. WHAT. c) alternatively daydreams about kissing him right there in the office

Accidental Brother-Sorry, Babysitter-Acquisition (Fic WIP)
Premise: After finding a kid outside his shop covered in mud, with no name, no parents, and completely nonverbal, Pigsy begins searching for who the kid is.
Tang suggests praying to the protector deity of children, Nezha, for luck in the endeavor.
They are not special.
And Nezha wasn’t even totally completely utterly lying to himself!
The little child nicknamed “MK” due to a firm lack of knowledge on any actual name (short for another nickname in itself, monkey, which had come from the scholar deeming the child similar to an excitable monkey, which was not at all irritating) truly was just like the rest Nezha had helped investigate, to find real names and homes and birth parents.
…that sounded stalkerish, which it both was, and wasn’t.
As a deity often prayed to for aid regarding children, Nezha prided himself on being able to provide satisfactory help. Throughout the centuries, prayers regarding lost children with no trace of the parents, or any homes, or even a name were thankfully rare but not rare enough.
And so Nezha helped. He would pry into dreams, cast seals and tracing spells and-on some occasions-when he was well and truly stuck at his guarding position he’d summon the simian from his imposed self-isolation within his spring-summer mountain paradise. Because even though he despised Sun Wukong, anyone with eyes who bothered to properly look could see the choice of the other pilgrims to reincarnate weighed heavily on the Monkey King and fed into the imposed isolation.
So astral projecting to him, masking concern with insults and veiled threats to help along some investigation? It truly wasn’t hard, and Sun Wukong had mellowed out enough that Nezha no longer felt the urge to lacerate him within a minute.
While guarding his half of the Samadhi Map was a task Nezha had resigned himself to for eternity until some being sent him to Diyu-or Realms forbid sent off his paranoia by reassigning him-sneaking away was something he did when he could get away with it. He still had prayers from home and public temples, and failing mortal parents to send a scathing dream-astral-projection to, and families to tie to his temples’ programs to receive financial aid, and-and-
(Sometimes he wondered if they had wanted him stuck doing nothing but standing in front of a piece of enchanted paper for eternity so his legacy would die, so his temples would burn again, and worship and power would whittle to nothing. Because perhaps he found a sort of kinship with Sun Wukong, more than the warriors who spent their time whispering instead of training, of being a demon child the Heavens wished to control.)
(Azure Lion had a point, but where he lost his power Nezha merely manipulated his status so his help could continue instead.)
Children needed help. Simple as that.
And so MK the monkey kid was nothing special-because Nezha had assisted thousands of children before him, and would assist thousands more in his eternity.
#lmk nezha#lmk sun wukong#lmk mk#lmk royalty duo#nezha lmk#monkie kid nezha#lego monkie kid nezha#nezha#monkie kid#lego monkie kid mk#AU based off the idea that Pigsy and Tang pray to Nezha when they dk what to do with MK#and through shenanigans Nezha gets yoinked into a new found family#I don't own the older brother Nezha idea (it is a beauty of the LMK fandom)#but I am having my fun with it#i edited it because i realized i forgot to put the premise TvT#yes im that stupid#accidental brother sorry babysitter acquisition au

Can anyone who knows Uglies explain what the hell changed that just 10 years ago it was considered great and groundbreaking and now I see nothing but people saying that it's dumb and uninspired and has no point or meaning?
#uglies#uglies series#actually tagging it because im genuinely curious i seriously do not get it#like ????? what#i havent read the books nor have i seen the movie btw. treat me like a 5 years old who has just stumbled upon the most incomprehensible#discourse#like from my position the premise seems pretty good so i dont really see why everyone is hating on it but perhaps the execution sucks?#which i wouldnt know because. again. i dont know anything.#all i know is that its a book series and a movie adaptation about the beauty industry and photoshop that poses the question#'what if instagram filters were real and mandatory because instagram baddies ruled the world and made everyone think they were#ugly and hideous and needed to be retouched to look sexy and hot and slay and if you werent sexy you lost your human rights'#which to me actually sounds great because i despise filters and retouching and beauty standards and i hope instagram burns in hell

I think when people talk about things like desirability, they can miss the deeper point of why it can be important to analyze why people are seen as undesirable. It isn't just that a type of person is just... not hot... but often, it's the dehumanization of a person based on marginalized features.
For instance, I had a conversation with somebody about disability portrayal in media, and we had agreed that, historically, disability had been portrayed as a horrific ordeal. However, I think they missed the point as to why the "undesirable disabled" character was so appealing to a broader audience. The idea that disability is other, inhuman, and something that depersonalizes somebody from society is partly why those ideas were and are prevalent in mainstream media and culture. It is the idea that "nobody likes you. Nobody needs you. Nobody wants you" because of the person's marginalized body or experience or whatever it may be.
It isn't some superficial "oh why aren't I seen as pretty by everybody?" It is the knowledge that you are portrayed as undesirable in this way because it is a way to separate you from everybody else. It isn't about beauty, nor is it a selfish desire to be wanted by somebody. It is the desire to be seen as a person - an equal, regardless of who desires you or who does not.
#beauty culture#desirability politics#ableism#ableism tw#i brought up media but it doesn't solely apply to that and the same with disability#i just thought the conversation perfectly encapsulated my frustration with how people interact with desirability#because some people go at it with the assumption that it is shallow and vapid and vain to want to have people change their perspective...#...about how they view a marginalized status#like when trans people have criticism of desirability favouring cisnormativity fot instance - people assume it is vapid and vain...#..but it is us asking to be seen as PEOPLE even *if* we aren't fucking ~desirable~ by everybody. your desires shouldn't impact us like that#our lives shouldn't hinge on us fighting to be seen as human beings - we shouldn't need to fight tooth and fucking nail for it#i've been thinking about that conversation for a while now and it's kind of nice to somewhat flesh out my problems with it all#i have no ill-will to the person i was talking to and about. we just went at the premise in different ways and i have different ideas#i don't think the person is Bad and Horrible. i think that they AND i are impacted by this and we have different experiences
