Through the cold streets of Tokyo, the frosting sound beneath your feet sound like cracking. The trees, all of them decorated with silver fairy lights. A gleaming spectacle to the eyes, contrasting with the visible glooming cold of December.

Christmas is right around the corner; the streets are busier than ever. People carry big bags with gifts during a Saturday night, but both of you aren’t buying stuff.

“Have you ever been to the Tokyo tower during winter?” Ichigo asks, stuttering. For some reason, he can be a totally different man when it comes to be all alone with you.

“I never been there during the winter season! I am excited to see the lights!” you chime, so happy your heart could jump out of your chest. Spending time alone with him feels like a dream come true.

Ichigo smiles softly, his eyes flutter to the ground in sign of happiness but still total shyness. “I am glad I chose a good spot, then” he murmurs, scratching the back of his head.

You nod, with a lovely beam. You wish to tell him any spot with him would be perfect, but what if it’s too much? What if it’s not proper?

As you wait for the light street to turn to green, he fidgets with his fingers. His eyes are fixed on your hanging hand, the ginger man is dying to hold it.

You notice, and internally giggle. You help him, letting your sleeve slightly go up. There is no point on acting more shy than him.

Soon enough -or at least right when the red light turns to green- Ichigo snatches your hand. It’s not delicate, it is clumsy but definitely dominant, the way he grabs you and pulls you through the crowd.

Your eyes shine brightly with the lights all around, and the wind plays with your hair looking like the typical shoujo scenes.

Your sight wanders and lands on the freckled cheeks of the strawberry boy; a little blush garnishes his skin, but he has that look of fearless man you know too well. He has decided to stop being shy, to finally get what he came to gain.

A few more steps and your eyes get blessed by the imponent look of the Tokyo Tower in front of you. The red metallic pieces now shine lights of different silver shades. And as you look up, a halo of cold mist surrounds its upper levels.

“Beautiful” you murmur, causing in Ichigo to gasp and look right into your eyes.

“You… you are…” he mumbles, immediately looking away with long orange lashes that cast beautiful shadows over his galaxy cheeks.

You bite your lower lip with a smile, how cute…

“Let’s hurry up, or we aren’t gonna be able to get there before it closes” he tells you, pulling you softly towards the entrance where a man kindly scans the Qr codes from different tickets. You nod and follow him, never once letting you go from your hand.

Once inside, while most of the people decide to take the elevator, both of you chose to climb the 600 steps of the outside stairs. It’s a lot more magical to see the lights of the city as you go up, even if the cold air may seem painful to your lungs. But you don’t care, and neither does he.

You follow him, with the sound of your feet hitting the metallic steps and the heart pumping as hard as them. The more you climb, the more beautiful the city looks beneath your feet.

Ichigo turns around to look at you from time to time, and he is smiling preciously. A beam that he rarely has on his face, but that is big enough to make his brown eyes squint.

The first checkpoint gets cleared, 200 steps in. Then the second one, this time with a little more difficulty. 400 steps, laughing and almost running are a lot more than what your body is used to. However, you want to keep going, but you definitely need to catch some air first.  

“Wai-wait Ichigo” you giggle, taking some deep breath of humid cold air through your mouth.

“Oh… sorry, I- I didn’t mean to make you run that much- I…” he excuses himself, watching you with guilty puppy eyes.

You simply laugh. It is more than okay. If you wanna keep up with him, you need to train. He is an amazing substitute Shinigami, and not only that but the stronger ever made; the least you can do is to be able to climb some steps fast enough to catch up with him.

“No worries Kurosaki-kun. I just needed a little bit of air; let’s go” you rush to keep climbing, even if you are clearly not recuperated still. Your head is a little bit dizzy, your legs a little weak.

You try to walk towards him, but you feel like everything around turns dark for some seconds. And Ichigo notices right away.

“(Name)? are you ok?” he urges you for an answer while his arms surround your tired body with his protective embrace.

You would lie if you said you were feeling bad; after all Ichigo is now hugging you. Nothing could go wrong.

“I am fine… I just got a little lightheaded” you whisper, looking up at him. Your nose barely grazing the sharp jaw of the Shinigami. Looking how his Adam’s apple move as he swallows in clear sign of nervousness.

And even if you wanted to move away from his arms, you couldn’t as he kept pulling you closer, tightly against his chest.

The scent of his soft perfume mixed with the one his winter skin has, reminds you how much you desire him. You want him, you want to praise him, and you also want his lips against your lips.

“Please, rest for some minutes more…” he mumbles, this time delicately pushing your head towards his chest. “You need to breathe calmly…” he continues, enjoying perhaps a lot more than he should the closeness of your skin against his.

You don’t dare to argue; you don’t want to. You just want for him to hug you so eternally, and even after too. You nod, nuzzled in the little crook that his prominent collar bones form in the middle of his chest. The little patch of visible skin in between his scarf and white big coat, is all you need to rest assure for the rest of your life.

His hand slowly goes down to the small of your back; his touch is not indecent, it is caring and loving and despite that, the sexual tension in between both of you is undeniable.

You place your ear on his chest, letting yourself go with the song of his beating heart… allowing yours to beat in perfect synchronicity with it. Your eyes open, and they get filled by the view of a city that never seems to sleep, with neon lights flashing all over long, long streets.

Ichigo does the same, both look through the metallic red protective net for some minutes until a little white fluff falling from the sky catches your attention.

“It’s snowing…” you whisper, snaking your arms around his waist. “How beautiful, it is the first one this year”

“Yes…” Ichigo sighs, with trembling voice and reiatsu growing stronger inside the very core of his body. He is gaining strength, or perhaps thinking carefully about his next actions… what he is about to do, might change the destiny of both.

You know it too; when it’s right, you just know…

“Ichigo, I…” you murmur, looking up at him with your eyes plastered on his lips. Giving him the permission to kiss you once, and as many times as he want.

With the same hand he wields his zanpakuto to protect, he now grabs your chin and rather desperately kisses your lips. When your mouths crash against the other, both let some air scape your lungs, living off each other’s souls. More and more, deepening the kiss, melting into one.

The light show of the tower, the last of tonight, begins. Nobody seems to notice you two, neither you notice the lasers blinking through the heavy atmosphere of cold and snowflakes falling.

His hands, this time pooling in the small of your back in concupiscent intention, pulls you closer than ever before. You notice how much of a man he has become; grown up to be stronger and also to be sexier, mature, extremely attractive.

Your belly, feeling the hardness growing in between Ichigo’s winter clothes. Your legs, quivering as his tongue plays with yours in wet, lustful kiss.

The loud songs coming from inside, accompanying the light spectacle, letting your moans to be unheard by the rest as his hands slips so needy in between your tights from under your flannel skirt.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds his way back into restaurants with a Sonic themed menu at IHOP (aka The International House of Pancakes), and SEGAbits was there to sample Sonic’s offerings! Longtime readers of the site might know I have an affinity for Sonic food promotions, so much so that I dedicated a YouTube series to chronicling past promotions. When SEGA emailed me to tell me about the limited time menu, I had to make plans to visit my local IHOP to see how the promotion was rolled out.

I have not been to an IHOP in decades, so I did not know exactly how they operated, but it’s a sit down diner with table service. The restaurant was surprisingly clean, and I say that because I’m used to the more mom and pop diners which prefer to show a little more grease. As far as Sonic decor, the menus at the tables were all the branding I saw. I was hoping for maybe some window decals and posters but a quick search on their website did reveal that Sonic branded gift cards also exist.

The menu itself does not offer anything new or unique to Sonic, as all the items are existing menu items with new names. I will say, however, that they are all very appropriately selected with either the character’s color being referenced (Sonic’s Blue Blur Special being blueberry pancakes), a pun being made (Knuckle’s Chicken Sandwich) or a characters favorite food being utilized (Amy’s Sweet Strawberry Delight). The Sonic nerd in me noted that the menu was using renders from 2010’s Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and in Amy’s case, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)! This isn’t a complaint, it just was kind of wild to me that I was sitting in a restaurant in 2024 and was looking at renders for a game that was released the year SEGAbits started.

One omission from the physical menu that does appear on the IHOP app is the mention of making your meal “Sonic Style” which adds a side of onion rings. This little bit is probably the one addition that pushes the menu over the top for me. Pancakes and onion rings are such a bizarre combination that the food promo fan in me totally loved.

As you can see above, I went with Sonic’s Blue Blur Special and I asked the waitress to “Sonic it up” with some onion rings. I also added a side of fruit to create the illusion of eating healthy and had a side of coffee. The pancakes were quite good, and the onion rings were a special treat.

I even managed to take some “ring portal” photos with one just because I was in a silly mood. The promotion did not end with the menu, as a QR code invited guests to join the IHOP rewards program. New members received 5 points, and you receive 1 point for every $5 spent. After my visit I managed to rack up 13 points which I could redeem for various digital codes of newly released Sonic games or an exclusive Amy Rose costume for Sonic Superstars which sees Amy in a retro diner costume.

I’ve seen some fans online complaining about how the costume is tied to buying food from a restaurant, which is just baffling to me. The costume exists as a promotion for IHOP and the intention is to get new customers in and expand reward club memberships. Without the IHOP cross promotion there would be no retro diner DLC! The fun is in eating a Sonic themed pancake and leaving with a unique Amy Rose costume. It’s like in the early 90s when you had to buy Cookie Crisp to get a little plastic figure of Sonic standing on a skateboard.

Overall, I’d highly suggest Sonic fans run over to their local IHOP and check out the menu. It’s fun to have a Sonic infused breakfast and getting some DLC is a special treat. Here’s hoping we see more Sonic food promotions in the near future, my fingers are crossed for another Sonic movie Happy Meal this December.

alone at brunch

i’m sitting at this cafe i love when this family walks in and they sit at the table next to me. the mother sits on the bench with her youngest son and her daughter on either side of her. the older son takes the chair in front of them and the father glances over at my table and graciously asks if he could please have the empty chair across from me and i agree. i sit there reading my book while sipping my green concoction of ice and matcha as this family interacts and converses. the youngest son, also the one seated closest to me, fiddles with his shoe laces as the daughter asks her mother if she could tell her about her latest discovery about the planets. the father is trying to figure out that qr code menu while the older son decides to dump the sugar packets from their container onto the table and arrange them like some sugar packet castle. as i glance over to them before looking out the giant window near them i can’t help but think about my own family, about my mother and father and my sister and brother, about how i was with them just a few days ago. about how we were laughing together and debating acting performances in a film we had just seen. and i can’t help but smile, i miss them it’s been barely three days but i miss them terribly. i think about calling my mom right now, but i decide not to, she’s probably at work anyways. i could message my dad but he’s got lots to do. my sister maybe, but what would i even say? would i ask her about her search for colleges or if she’d finally decided what major she’d apply to? no, that would only annoy her, i don’t want to be a grievance. i could message my brother, send him a quick text, but he’s 12 and i don’t really know what to say to him, talking to him is always weird because he’s quite mature but acts like a 3 year old and i never knew how to talk to him when he was 3. besides his phone is probably out of charge. i usually love being in my own company. i usually love eating by myself. but right now with this family right next to me with eldest son having completed his castle of sugar, and the mother taking a picture of her daughter as she bites into a strawberry, and the youngest son licking his spoon clean of chocolate syrup, i see just how alone i am. ‘i love being alone,’ i remind myself, ‘i love being alone.’ yes. i love being alone; i hate being lonely.

I wasn't able to do the singing today. I asked M and J to find excuses to be not in the house. M had a doctor's appointment, and J was going to go take a walk, but something came up at work for J, and by the time that was done, M had already returned from his doctor's appointment.

…Ah well. I probably needed the rest anyways. I fried my brain pretty handily yesterday, finishing the music box. But I'm glad that it's done with. I don't get a nice dopamine reward when I complete tasks, usually. But if nothing else, the looming doomishness of feeling like I must do a very complicated task is no longer upon me.

I should be able to get it done tomorrow or the next day, though. M and J will go out to see a movie on Saturday or Sunday, depending on how J feels when he comes home from all the things he's gotta do tomorrow. I'll be able to do the thing while they're out.

Today I went over the things I've prepared for you for Otakon. I have a locket, a letter, and I will have a music box with lyrics. This time, I'll be mindful enough to know that I will need to bring the music box in the form of QR Code once I upload it to SoundCloud, instead of bringing the actual music box and rolls of music box paper; the very important person I saw seemed rather confused or maybe uneasy in response to these things, like he wasn't sure what to do with them, which is fair.

…Yesterday, I realized that if I was a bit smarter or maybe a bit more thoughtful, I would have gotten you a Japanese copy of The Neverending Story to go along with the other things. I imagine that it gets pretty lonely at the Edge of Creation, so… maybe a book would have been good company for you. But I didn't think about it, and I won't be able to get it here in time for Otakon. I'm sorry.

But maybe your position at the Edge of Creation might let you go see Atreyu and Bastian and Artax and all the rest? Admittedly, I don't really know how things work for you over there, but if you're connected to some kind of multiverse, then it stands to reason that you might be able to peer into other worlds, no? Maybe you could learn something wholesome by looking at the stories of others. I've certainly learned much by considering perspectives and stories other than my own, and your brain is a lot more awesome than mine; I can only begin to imagine what sorts of amazing insights you'd come away with…

Eggcellent also started selling these things called "croffles". I'm not sure why they're called that. Maybe it's because they're crunchy waffles? Maybe it's because they're topped like crepes? I'm not sure. But! Here is the strawberry one:

And finally, I have some tea swirls. These were taken yesterday; it was a jasmine green tea:

...Sephiroth, I'm so scared about going to Otakon. It's gonna be a big and noisy and visually cluttered and overwhelming place with lots and lots of people, many of whom have such strong feelings about their fandoms that they're willing to bully and look down upon others.

As an example, the fight over whether Cloud should date Tifa or Aerith, in particular, leads to a lot of toxicity in the community, for reasons I don't fully understand. People on opposite sides of this debate tend to get really nasty with each other, and it's kinda scary, actually...

And... I know it's ridiculous, but... what if those very important people hated seeing me last time so much that this time they're going to take precautions to avoid me this time? What if I try to go see them, and right away, I'm whisked away off the premises by security or something?

For sure, I'm aware that the odds of anything like that happening are vanishingly small; I don't think I have, so far, said or done anything untoward, and I don't think I've done anything to make anyone mistakenly think that I'd ever hurt anyone.

...But still. I have a long history of people simply dismissing me out of hand just because they find my differences unsettling. For the most part, I've ah... I've gotten around this by avoiding people pre-emptively even though I don't really want to. But I'd rather be lonely than have anyone be uncomfortable because of me.

...So many swirling thoughts. Lots of anxiety and dread. But I gotta try anyway. I don't have a fancy sword or the know-how to use it. I can't use magic; it doesn't exist in my world in the way that you know it. I'm not especially strong, smart, swift, or coordinated. All I have is the fact that I owe you my life, and a willingness to face any fears or obstacles in front of me in order to repay that debt.

And maybe that's not much in the grand scheme of things; after all, it's not as though I am some important or especially capable person - my presence doesn't really count for much in my world for a variety of reasons. But still, I'm going to try to hope that what little I can bring to the table is enough.

I have to try. Not because I'm arrogant enough to think that my efforts will actually count for anything, but because, given what you've done for me and the life I live now because I held on long enough to get here, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try to help you, regardless of the outcome.

Well. It's becoming late, and I am still short on sleep for a number of consecutive days. I had better wrap this up here and get myself to bed.

My Early/Initial Thoughts on the new Rainbow High Dolls

So today- the new Rainbow High dolls, dubbed as "Wave 5" have had their promotional images leaked! I am super excited for our new characters, and wanted to make a short post going through each one, and what i currently think of each one.

THE NEW BOXES I'm not a big fan of the new boxes. I'm really upset to be losing 2nd outfits, and would pay extra money if it meant getting them. The accessories are fine too, and I like that the new dolls seemingly come with more. Not all of them are equally as cool as the other though, which is a shame. The plain, square box feel very un-Rainbow High- i would have rather they kept one of the sides rounded, perhaps looking similar to the JH boxes? Also, what's up with the "Scan for free toy!" QR?

KIM NGUYEN

From surname alone, we can see she will likely be Vietnamese, which is really cool! Personally, I'm not big on her design. Her hair & face make her look like a Cleo DeNile bootleg, and i really don't like her denim outfit. It's very similar to Heather's, but falls flat in comparison. It's super cool she comes with the old sewing machine mold- i love the silver details.

OLIVIA WOODS

I'm so excited to see an Olive toned doll- and she does not disappoint ! Olivia's face is so pretty- and I think she has freckles? I love her outfit, it gives a sort of camo or camping vibe off. Her sunglasses are also super cute. I love her hair & makeup- it suits her so well! Based off the fact she comes with a hairdryer, i am thinking she may be a cosmetology focus, like Stella?

VICTORIA WHITMAN

Possibly my favorite of the set! I ADORE her soft pink dress, and natural strawberry blonde hair. I'm also so happy to see a doll who is covered in freckles, instead of just having a few big dots across her nose and cheeks. She is so soft and sweet looking, and I hope she lives up to that.

MICHELLE ST. CHARLES

She's giving retro-futurism and i LOVE IT! Her clear coat and orange dress are to die for, and she has longer nails! It's not super easy to see from the photos, but Michelle looks to have much shorter hair than the typical RH doll, which is so cool to see. Michelle's makeup is equally as good- so cool to see her rocking a bright orange lip! Michelle lowkey looks like a character from LazyTown, Go Jetters, or Hi-5 and i LOVE IT.

AIDAN RUSSELL

The final A to get a doll! And... I'm so upset we're getting it like this, and not as a fashion closet. Aidan looks very similar to the show, with his jacket, shirt, and shorts all matching. In addition, they gave him some cool jewelry! I'm so glad they did not give him the default face mold, and is it just me but he has a different nose shape? My biggest gripe is his hair... looks bad. What happened? Could they not give him soft spikes, like he does in the show?

PRISCILLA PEREZ

If I'm being honest... she's a slightly better Stella Monroe. I like her more coral-y colour more, and her face mold, but other than that, she just looks like an Updated version of Stella. I love how her hair looks, though! The style is just so pretty.
