Spider-Man is coming back to manga with a brand-new story from Marvel, Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior

Marvel has announced they are bringing Spider-Man into a whole new kind of manga world with the original new series, Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior now in the works for a launch later this Fall. Spider-Man is no stranger to manga as Marvel has launched the hero into all kinds of manga worlds. This has even been increasing in the past couple of years as Marvel has kickstarted new partnerships to increase their footing in the manga world with unexpected team ups and new releases expanding the Spider-Verse. But this next new manga is going to be a bit different from the others.

Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior is a brand new original manga story that sees Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Gwen travel back to feudal Japan in order to stop Kingpin, who has mysteriously taken control. But upon getting there, a new surprising host bonds with the Venom symbiote to become a whole new kind of Venom. What Is Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior?

Written and illustrated by Shogo Aoki, Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior will be making its debut on shelves beginning on September 16th later this year. As for what to expect from this new manga story, it begins to tease itself as such, “Travel to 19th century Japan, where the Kingpin Wilson Fisk has fled America and established himself as Governor of Edo. Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Ghost-Spider are hot on his trail.” So it seems like it’s going to be a bit of a time travel and Isekai story putting these heroes into a new kind of world.

The synopsis for Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior continues to tease its Venom spin on the story as such, “But the Kingpin has a trick up his sleeve: He’s brought an alien parasite capable of granting extraordinary powers. When a young man named Hyo accidentally bonds with the symbiote and seemingly transforms into the infamous Venom, things go from bad to worse! This new book is perfect for manga and super-hero fans alike!” And if the new series is anything like we have seen in the rest of Spider-Man’s manga releases thus far, it’s going to offer something unique for fans too.

Spider-Man Has a Long History With Manga

Spider-Man has had a very long history with the world of manga as Marvel has experimented with all sorts of team ups and collaborations over the years. Not only did Spider-Man star in his own manga release with Spider-Man: The Manga years ago, but Marvel has also seen the character in all sorts of different collaborations over the years. These included crossovers with Attack on Titan, a special one-off with Iron Man written and illustrated by the late Yu-Gi-Oh creator Kazuki Takahashi, and even a series from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes creators Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court on a Spider-Verse spin-off that ended recently.

So this newest manga is going to hit right in that sweet spot as Marvel has been really amping up their reach in this medium. Spider-Man Manga: Shadow Warrior is a great step forward in bridging that gap as Spider-Man just works in a manga context. It’s a character design that perfectly works in any kind of style, and Spider-Man has such a fun power set, allies, and a rogues gallery that manga is just the right way to help explore it all.

The fourth ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘ movie is set to arrive in theaters on March 19, 2027.

Paramount Pictures announced plans for a fourth installment in the popular video game franchise even before the third movie hit theaters. This decision has proven wise, as ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ has become the highest-grossing film in the series, earning over $422 million worldwide.

The first ‘Sonic‘ movie in 2020 was a surprise hit, grossing over $319 million globally. The 2022 sequel, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2,‘ surpassed its predecessor, earning over $405 million worldwide.

The ‘Sonic‘ franchise has now collectively grossed over $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Considering how each of the movies have gotten better critical and audience scores, it should be interesting what the studio can manage for a fourth film! Especially after that end credit teaser in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’.

A glitch occurs in both versions of Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch version shown in the footage) in the desert section of Land's End. If Mario happens to land between two sand whirlpools in a precise way where he is touching the hitboxes for both of them at the same time, the game will become stuck in a loop of attempting to teleport him to two different areas simultaneously and failing.

The only way to continue playing in this scenario is to reset the game.

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle - Movie Super Shadow Gameplay Showcase #SonicMovie3

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has continued build on its initial strong box office performance, even as it begins to slowly fade from theaters a month after release. With last week's global box office gross now tallied, Sonic 3 has now blown past another franchise record: it has beaten Sonic 2's $405 million box office gross, making $422.398 million. This makes it not just the best performing Sonic movie, but the 5th highest performance for a video game movie, period, surpassing Uncharted's $407 million (notably, Sonic 2 briefly surpassed Uncharted, but it eventually inched passed it again through further theatrical runs).

Sonic 3 also appears set to move further up the rankings, with Rampage sitting just ahead of it at $428 million. Increasingly, the question now becomes whether Sonic 3 has what it takes to surpass the current second-place holder, Detective Pikachu, which currently sits at just above $450 million. It certainly doesn't seem impossible, but will depend on whether or not Sonic 3 is able to remain in theaters through February. Sonic 3 has no shot of touching The Super Mario Bros Movie (which was billion-dollar megahit), but beating Detective Pikachu would at least earn Sonic 3 the less prestigious honor of "technically the highest grossing live action video game movie," something it would probably hold until The Legend of Zelda releases.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is lots of Kong fun we've seen before.

One of the best games on the Nintendo Wii has made its way over to the Nintendo Switch at last, right as Nintendo announced a Nintendo Switch 2. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a remaster of a game that was on the Wii and then on the Nintendo 3DS. I played both versions, and also this newest version. Donkey Kong's a great game, but Nintendo should reconsider how it prices classics like this in the future as we approach Year 9 of the Switch Family's lifecycle.

Figuring out which Switch games are "new" and which are old can be confusing, especially since Nintendo's in the business of rereleasing and remastering classic games all the time. Sometimes, the new versions are worth every penny of the price: Mario Kart 8, for instance, felt just as new on the Switch as it did on the Wii U. Donkey Kong Country Returns, on the other hand, while still really fun, hardly feels like it should be a $60 game in 2025.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a lovely-looking side-scrolling platformer with 3D graphics, spanning multiple worlds on an island. It can be tough at times, but also there are assists to help you skip forward if your kids are feeling frustrated.

DK Country Returns has tons of secret areas and extras, and finding them is a big part of the fun. Nintendo's games often are full of secret things (Luigi's Mansion, Mario, Kirby, and so on), but it really does feel like you need to bonk on every piece of ground and blow on fires and flowers all the time to make sure you don't miss anything.

The game's two-player co-op mode is fun, and the game includes bonus levels that were added to the Nintendo 3DS version – but there's nothing else brand-new onboard this time.

Even though I've played before, I had some fun.

All the level designs are clever, the graphics still feel fresh, and with Super Nintendo World and a Donkey Kong ride hitting Universal Studios Florida this year, the timing seems perfect. But $40 or less seems like a far more fair price for a third rerelease of a game that first came out back in 2010 (here's my original review). Even then, I thought the game was a charmingly retro experience that felt a little bit too complacent. In 2025, that feeling's even stronger.

I'd love more Donkey Kong games, and there's already a sequel on the Switch: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, which was originally a 2014 Wii U game. You can play plenty of older Donkey Kong games on Nintendo's Switch Online virtual console apps, too. It's probably time for a whole new DK game sooner or later, but that's hardly what this is. Instead of something new, Nintendo's giving us more of the old.

Next time, maybe release all the DK games together for one more reasonable price? Or release the games as DLC extras? I don't think anyone wants to keep buying the same games over and over again. Something to consider as Nintendo plans a whole new console and, maybe, starts to rethink how it approaches its vast catalog of classics, too.
