the way that 99% of the major plot changes are at their core just hammering down the fact that this is a character driven story about a dysfunctional family is the most miserable build up to "family, Luke, you promised" because now we're talking about a 5-year arc that ALREADY includes

percy developing rightful anger at the absentee gods

medusa accurately describing the gods as monsters and the rest of them as victims

echidna, mother of monsters, nailing in that maybe their parents aren't actually the shit they think they are

percy outright telling annabeth "family isn't supposed to be like that"

annabeth AGREEING with this and acting upon it

to the point of convincing hephaestus, a god himself, that they should be different

and will POSSIBLY (we will know within a few weeks) include

percy and sally getting back at their abuser, prioritizing their family

percy going back home to his family for the school year despite the dangers

percy at the same time having a conflict about this because chb is also his family

annabeth going to her family too, despite their complications

& this is all in the span of one summer with 4 more to go so it is needless to say that I am SO NERVOUS.

does near every single post-canon DE fic out there need to be tagged ‘Sober Harry Du Bois’? i’m getting so tired of it.

do i expect every single piece of fan content to have to fully delve into the often-depressing always-complex topic of addiction? not really. sometimes you just want to write/read a silly fluffy romance one-shot, whatever. i get it. but i think my issue is specifically with the fact that for nearly every sillyfluffy au out there, there almost must be a ‘sober harry du bois’ tag. and it does feel very slapped-on more often than not.

i think to me it is an unconscious statement that nothing *good* can ever happen to harry du bois until he is completely and permanently sober. before solving the next big case, he has to be sober. before quitting the force, he has to be sober. before falling in love with kim, he has to be sober. before accomplishing anything, starting any sort of recovery, making any life improvement, he must first be sober.

sobriety as a goal, as a journey, and honestly as a concept in of itself is not as cut and dry as so many people think it is. and i think it would serve a lot of people well if they did some introspection on the implications of how nearly every single post-canon fic that isn’t dealing directly with harry’s addiction have him as completely sober instead.

if the plot of the fic isn’t going to touch directly on harry’s substance use (and again, i’m not demanding that every single fic should), why does that mean that sober!harry must be the default?

i think i am just tired of reading a casefic, a smutty one-shot, a fantasy au, whatever, where it almost seems that before getting on with the plot, the author feels obligated to first assure us that the harry we’re reading about is a Sober Harry. it’s established with a couple lines in the exposition, probably about his improved appearance, a tag up top, and then never brought up again; a checkmarked box. like the societal image of An Addict has completely prevented people from being able to imagine a person just, continuing to live life, while still struggling with addiction.

life happens, with all of its backslides and achievements, mundanity and changes, to people with drug addictions just as much as people who don’t. is a post-canon harry who isn’t sober not worth writing about?

i think so. i think the game we all played thinks so too. in fact i think that sentiment is woven into the game’s very core. i just wish i saw that reflected in our fan content more.

louis, lestat, and their single bed as a motif louis puts into his own story, but refuses to explore, is literally one of the sexiest parts of the show. it speaks volumes about a level of fulfillment and freedom that louis feels by being with lestat that he rarely explicitly comments on when he's relaying his story to daniel, which feels extremely relevant to his overall reluctance to examine the parts of his relationship with lestat that he really enjoyed.

because louis is a character who's hyper aware of how he presents himself. he's lived his entire life projecting a certain masculine, heteronormative image, and he's aware of how deviating from that presentation has implications that impact how people view him - from enjoying the opera, to the presentation of his nails. the fact that he moves in with lestat and neither of them ever put a second bed into any room in the house as a level of plausible deniability is so huge and oversight by so cautious a character, it can only be read as deliberate - especially when the conspicuous lack of a second bed is pointed out to them by both antoinette and a literal police officer. in an existence where you don't sleep in a bed, the bed becomes a symbolic object more so than a practical one. it's louis choosing to deliberately transgress against the societal expectations he lives out when he leaves his house, a bit of presentation that actually amplifies his truth as a gay man living with his partner, rather than masking or hiding himself, like he does for the outside world.

Just saw the thing about the Pokemon Teraleak and I gotta say, while I'm amused that a lot of people are taking the info on the myths in good stride and having a chuckle about it, I'm also incredibly annoyed and disappointed in those "freaking out" about it for purity clout....

Like seriously... We've known about the ancient Pokemon/human relationships since like Gen 4. It's old news. And REALLY not that wild of a concept, esp when you consider that most 'Mons are supposed to be based on Yokai and their myths.

Please I'm actually begging y'all to go read some folklore and fucking educate yourself, seriously. The Animal-Bride/Husband concept has been around for literal AGES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD (Selkies anyone? Or Kitsune? How about Swan Maidens? Just to name a few...) and is often used as a cautionary tale against excess and marital abuse and to warn and have respect for nature. These folktales reflect and read exactly like that and are pulled from actual myths to explain those concepts, which is also probably the reason WHY they didn't get put into the games officially because they'd be too mature a narrative to pass in a game for 7 to 10 year olds.

But also because there'd be a bunch of Evangelicalized Pearl-Clutching Westerners that'd freak the fuck out about it like y'all are doing now. It's really pathetic
