Maybe the real reason I was so mentally unwell in 2020 is because I found this album then and I just listened to it on loop
#I found Hand Me My Shovel on YouTube and I haven't looked back since#still one of the best songs in the world period#okay just slightly behind Marsha but still#I still love how this album introduced me to that whole genre of music which I didn't even know existed#and yes I also went down the Lemon Demon and Tally Hall etc etc hell pipeline soon afterwards#fr though Mr. Wood I don't remember 2012 either#I still wish I had that circus ringleader outfit#anyway all jokes this album is actually very comforting in its own strangely beautiful way#my only complaint is that it should last forever#will wood#will wood and the tapeworms#self-ish#Spotify

talking to him more very much achieved. we just talked for like 4 hours in the kitchen holy shit I need to sleep
#I went into the kitchen to wash up wanting it to be a few minutes to get back to my parents by he came home at the same time#unsure what just happened honestly! as in Iâm not sure what is going on from his end of the interaction#because I have never met anyone who would just do that before. like four hours straight when before weâd talked for periods of idk 10minutes#and he WAS engaged the whole time#granted he spent a significant amount of time talking. he talked far more than I did which is often the case but Im not sure how I felt here#I think he gets excited abt individual topics and. gets carried away is the wrong word but he gets absorbed in it#he spent a while talking me through the very complex maths heâs been doing recently#(he studies maths. also abt to start masters.) and was assuming a much stronger mathematical background than I have but I understood a bunch#he IS very good at explaining things and I was interested to a point but unfortunately I was not going to ask about individual theorems and#shit like that at 11pm. it was still super interesting Iâm not downplaying that but I didnât know half of what he brought up#there was basically no way I was going to understand much more than the vague concept anyway#anyway! also extremely into food. especially into traditional chinese cooking which is cool as fuck and I now know so much more abt food#I have never personally cared much at all about food. I enjoy when taste good and I enjoy cooking. heâs into the precision cooking#that he told me apparently Chinese and French food is the best in the world at. meant to be amazing at going for specific effects#oh he came back from a musical! apparently abt a woman with bipolar that was on in London I might check what that was. next to normal#cried 7 times. apparently heâs super into stories with that kinda emotional payoff. started telling me later abt tokyo animation#priest if youâre already seeing this I WILL be asking you abt it later but pls tell me whatever. he likes clannad and sound euphorium#bunch of others but those are the ones he talked most abt and started tearing up when he played me a song from clannad where the babyâs born#so I think biggest things Iâve learned are that heâs impressively in touch w his emotions (further damaging the straight guy case)#regardless itâs just nice to talk to a guy who talks abt stuff so openly itâs very refreshing#unsure how cultural differences factor in here. I wouldâve expected it to go the other way but possible this is a degree more normal#and heâs very very academically minded. he learned Japanese bc was bored after high school and is doing a WHOLE lot of extra maths for fun#socially definitely very competent heâs very good at talking but a little more focused inward.#definitely did not notice the (admittedly extremely gentle) flirting throughout like when I complimented his bracelet#(this cute gold year of the rat thing his mum got him)#so yeah. was very fun talking to him. will process this for a while#I think this has definitely established that we could be friends if either of us pursue that after summer which is very cool!! will see#luke.txt

yes, i'm ready (to fall in love)
ââ Ëââ©â§â genre: smut, fluff, mild angst
ââ Ëââ©â§â synopsis: after reader is persuaded into putting herself back out there by long time friend, shoko, she successfully ends up scoring a date. unbeknownst to her, though, the gods have different plansâand one of them seems especially interested in her relationship with ex-husband, gojo satoru.
or in other words: a failed date results in a night of passion amongst former lovers.
ââ Ëââ©â§â contents: 13.5k words, ex-husband!gojo + co-parent!gojo, slight dub-con (alcohol use), dumbification, overstimulation, vaginal penetration, unconventional form of contraception (pull-out method - donât do this), pussy eating + one oc for the sake of plot
ââ Ëââ©â§â note: i know this is really long and most people donât have the attention span for it but PLEASE give it a chance! this is literally the longest piece of fiction iâve ever written and iâm really proud of it :(
songs to listen to for best reading experience: donny hathaway - i love you more than youâll ever know barbara mason - iâm ready partynextdoor - showing you bryson tiller - been that way
After you divorced your ex-husband, and decided to devote all of your time to being a mother, you never really considered getting back into the dating world. Not that you didnât eventually want to settle down with someone new, but the dating world now was just soâdifferent.
Different in the sense that meeting people organically was becoming increasingly difficult. It wasnât like how it used to be in high school or college, and it really didnât take that much effort then to get a manâs number by the end of your outing.Â
When you were in your early twenties, a brush of your hand on a manâs arm wouldâve worked. An âaccidentalâ bump into someone at a grocery store or cafe mightâve ended in a quick lay. Using these tactics today, though, might earn you some weird looksâhaveâearned you some weird looks.Â
Youâre on call with a friend from college when you begin recounting something embarrassing that happened to you recently. At first, the conversation started out about all of the professors you wouldâve slept with (if given the chance), but then, one thing led to another, and she asked you something that made you wince:Â
ââHowâs your dating life been since, you know, Satoru?ââÂ
Thereâs a heavy silence from your end, and she almost thinks you hung up.Â
âI mean, if you want to share,â she splurts, attempting to approach this gently, âI know that after the divorce, I wasnât there for you like you needed, but Iâd like to make up for thatâif youâd let me.â
Shokoâs always been like that. Blunt and charismatic, but gentle and zephyr-light in the way she cares for those closest to her. Itâs a trait of hers that you admire, because not so many people would care to treat your heart with such fragility.
âNo, itâs okay. You can ask, you know, itâs not this secret thing,â you start, sighing before continuing, âit happened, and it was a mutual decision.â
Shoko hums on the other side, âWell, Iâm still sorry. I let us go without talking for far too longâŠâ
âWell, I accept your apology, even if itâs unwarranted. Like I said, it was mutual andâŠthere wasnât really an intense grieving period for me? The only thing that hurt me is that you distanced yourself. I mean, the girls did miss their aunt ShokoâŠâ you say, trying to make her feel bad but not too bad.Â
âI know, I know, Iâm a bad aunt,â she jests, then the tone shifts to something serious. âI think I was just scared because both of you were my best-friends. I didnât want to âpick sidesâ, but I see now that it was a mutual decision, so Iâm assuming you two are on good-terms?âÂ
Again, you pause, âI mean, yeah. Satoru will always be my best friend. We may not be together romantically but heâs such an integral part of my life, I couldnât do thisâall of thisâalone.â After you say it, you feel a weight being lifted off of your chest that you didnât know was even there.Â
You think nobody would understand if you told them this. You think theyâd question how a person could divorce someone whoâs supposed to be their best-friend. And with the way you describe it, theyâd probably think you were still in love with him. But Shokoâs different, she gets it. Which is why saying it to her came so easily.Â
âHe is a great father,â she chimes in, âbut you two rushed into it so quickly, I donât think either of you had time to discover yourselves after college.â
Although she canât see it, you smile. Because she gets it. Even if time did place itself in between the two of you, she was there for most of it, when things were still touch-and-go. When things were fresh, and clumsy.Â
âExactly, that was our biggest gripe,â you admit, âWe didnât afford ourselves that time to grow, and I think that hindered our relationship. We werenât husband and wife first, we were parentsâand we were young, way too young.â
âYou made it, though,â Shoko tries to brighten the mood, âyouâre both amazing parents, and I know those beautiful girls that you created are lucky to have you.âÂ
The intimacy of the conversation sends your emotions into overdrive. You quickly realize how much you missed her, how much you yearned to talk to her. To reconnect on this level.Â
A single tear cascades down your cheek, and you try not to sound like youâre crying when you say, âOk, enough about that. You wanted to know about my shitty dating life, right?â
It happened last week, the grocery store incident. You were out picking up a few things for dinner when you spotted a cute guy standing outside of the aisle a few rows from you. He was fit beyond measure, in looks and strength, and was wandering around aimlessly in pursuit of red pepper flakes.Â
Coincidentally, you just happened to be in the seasoning aisle, and like the good samaritan you were, decided to personally hand-deliver it to him.Â
You wince as you vividly recall the embarrassing ordeal that ensued immediately after.Â
âHey,â you peer from behind the aisle, with a bottle of red pepper flakes in tow. âI heard you mumbling about finding this, and you looked pretty lost, so I thought Iâd pick âem out for you.âÂ
The manâs brows furrow briefly before his lips up-turn into a grateful smile, âOh, cool, thank you so much!â As quickly as the conversation started, it ends even quicker. He gives you a final nod of endearment before heâs turning around on his heels to resume his shopping.Â
âGod, could he be any more dense? The men today really make you work for it, huh?â you mumble to yourself, pulling the bosom of your blouse down until a good amount of cleavage is on display. âOkay, alright. You got this, you got this. This always used to work, right? Yeah, men love boobs.â
Walking up to the man again, you try a different approachâa bolder approach. âNot to be a bother but I was wondering if I could-â
âBabe? Oh, there you are,â a new voice interjects. The owner of the voice emerges from around the corner and walks up to the man with a cart and a baby in tow. Youâre stunned, to say the least. All you can do is stand there and blink in complete and utter dumbfoundment. As you remain in their presence, you take a moment to analyze the woman. Sheâs gorgeous, and toned. A real model-type broad, with feline-ish features that make so much sense paired with the man who appears to be her partner.Â
Oh, you think, and apparently say aloud, too. Thatâs when the woman turns to you, finally acknowledging your much smaller, and much quieter presence.Â
âHi, can we help you?â she smiles, and itâs actually genuine. Toothy and perfect, and totally not jealous. You blink once, twice, before gathering your wits to answer her question.Â
âYeah, uh, no. I actually, uhm, was helping your h-husband. He was looking for red pepper flakes,â you mutter embarrassedly, and point to the bottle in his hand. Upon further observation, you notice that she isnât exactly wearing a ring. You find this odd, especially because his not wearing a ring is what encouraged you to pursue him. Carefully, you prod.Â
âIf I may ask, how come neither of you are wearing rings?â The couple gives each other a look, one that makes you feel like the odd man out. A look that is universally known, and without a doubt, could easily be translated to: âdid this chick really just ask that?â
Still, you smile as you wait for an answer. The woman takes the initiative. âYeah, we donât really believe in rings, isnât that right, babe?â she says so matter-of-factly. You blink again for what seems like the thousandth time, because of all things, you did not expect that to come out of her mouth. Her husband is quick to validate her statement.Â
âYeah, we think rings are unnecessary, you know? You donât need a piece of metal to confirm your feelings,â he says walking to his partnerâs side and wrapping an arm around her.Â
Disgustingly, the two give each other googly eyes before locking lips briefly. You can tell theyâre the type to probably share this information with just about any soul who asks. Today, you just happened to be that unfortunate soul.Â
âAre you married?â she queries, tilting her head against her husbandâs chest.
âI was, now we justâŠco-parent,â you purse your lips, ready for this entire interaction to be over. The woman frowns at your answer, and this time itâs not as genuine.
âAwe, well, Iâm sorry to hear that.â
âIt was actually a mutual decision,â you quip.
âOkay,â she smiles, widening her eyes at her husband to signal a departure, âwell, it was nice meeting you, and thank you for the red pepper flakes.â
The family turns away and heads to the front where check-out is. You donât even buy the items you intended to purchase, just leave your cart in the middle of whatever aisle you abandoned it and leave the store.
âOh, baby, you didnât?â Shoko asks in horror. You nod your head, still forgetting she canât see you and the way youâre sliding down against the wall.Â
âI did, and I shan't ever again,â a laugh erupts from your throat.Â
âI mean, fuck, are we getting old? âDonât believe in rings,ââ she mumbles, âDonât believe in rings, my ass! Is this what the youth are doing these days? Not proposing with rings?â
Now that you think about it, you wonder how that would even work. âYeah, right? I mean, how does that even work? âWill you marry me? But, actually, you should know I donât have a ring for you, so people will have to guess that weâre together purely based on vibes and energy,ââ you mock, in a not-so-great man voice.Â
Shokoâs laughing so hard by the end of your bit that she breaks the sound barrier, and the sound that makes on the phone sends you into your own fit of laughter. You laugh so hard it seems like a stream of pee comes out. Curse your developed incontinence after motherhood.
âGod, youâre so stupid, I canât breathe,â she says exasperatedly, and you know that on the other side sheâs probably keeling over in her bed.Â
âOh, please. I bet you havenât laughed this hard in a long time, bitch.â
âI havenât,â she cackles. This back-and-forth continues until the two of you settle down enough to continue discussing your (pee-inducing) love life.Â
âYou tried any dating apps?âÂ
Itâs a simple and valid question, but it only makes you laugh even harder. You only stop when the other side of the line goes quiet. âWait, seriously?â
âYeah, seriously. Itâs what everyoneâs doing these days! Youâre not that old, you know.â
âShut up,â you kid, â itâs just that I never considered it. I mean, dating apps feel so impersonal. How serious do people even take it?âÂ
âSure, thereâs people who use it for casual hook-ups and stuff, but a lot of people do come out of it with a relationship. Just donât knock it âtill you try it.â
âOh?â you muse, curious. You wish Shoko could see your face, and the weird little dance your brows were doing. âShoko, have you used a dating app before?âÂ
The brunette kisses her teeth. âCanât get anything past you.â
âNever.â
Thereâs a sense of hesitance but you encourage her to elaborate because âshe became estranged from you for almost a decade and needed to pay her duesâ. Sighing defeatedly, she eventually acquiesces.Â
âFine, fine, maybe IâveâŠbeen on a few dates,â she starts, ââand had a few one night stands, maybe more than a few, and maybe even dated a guy that turned into my stalkerââ
âIeiri Shoko! You naughty, naughty girl! Wait, stalker?â
âTo make a long story short, I got a restraining order on that creep. Anyway,â she segues, attempting to change the subject, âWe should make you a profile!â
For the rest of your phone call, Shoko guides you through all of the dating app basics. She offers her expert advice as you scroll through your camera roll for potential photos to use. You go through about a hundred before you finally settle on five that she really likes.Â
The one that she tells you to put first is a photo of you in a bikini. Itâs a few years old but she says you look âradiantâ and that your âtits were practically spilling out of the cupsâ. Plus, for further consolation, she says most people on dating apps are liars.Â
âEveryoneâs got at least one old photo on their profile, doesnât make you a catfish,â she quips, âjust means youâre a nostalgic person!âÂ
âRightâŠâÂ
The next one is a selfie. Youâre smiling big in it, showing your gums, and itâs genuine. Shoko says guys like those types of photos because it shows them that youâre approachable. It also won her over because itâs fairly recent, too.Â
Out of all your photos, thereâs only a select few that were taken within the year. You had to admit to her that you never really took photos of yourself anymore. Satoru took most of your candids. Still, she had a mission. And she wasnât going to be satisfied until she stuck around to see your first match.Â
âAfter the selfie you should put the one of you with the girls.â
The picture sheâs referring to is one Satoru also took. You remember that day fondly, and even now, the memories feel like a warm embrace.Â
about 8 years ago . . .
âDad, mom, look! Hurry!â Hana, your oldest, shouts. Satoru and you are sitting on a blanket up on the sand dunes with Haruki, whoâs trying her best to make a sand castleâto no avail.Â
âWhat is it, hon?â Satoru and you rush over to her, snatching toddler Haruki in the same breath. When you get to the scene, a flood of warmth washes over you upon discovering the âthreatâ.Â
âSee, itâs baby turtles!â Hanaâs squatting in the sand, watching with pure and unfettered fascination as the hatchlings crawl north to the ocean. When she looks up at you, with eyes so bright, and a smile so big thatâs missing two of her front teeth, you want to cry.Â
âOh, hon, thatâs beautiful,â you gasp, lowering to your haunches so that you can join her. Satoru is about to follow suit before deciding at the last minute to go back to the blanket. When he returns, he snaps a picture unbeknownst to you. Eventually, though, you turn your gaze to him and he capturesâwhat he used to think thenâthe âprettiestâ photo of you.
âYou sneaking photos of me?â you squint, pointing at him. He trods closer until heâs standing above you. Then he snaps another. Your headâs tilted up, and youâve got one eye open, and the other closed because of the sun. He always liked when you squinted like that because it made your nose do this cute little scrunch.Â
âYup, âcause youâre my muse.â
Youâre pulled out of your daydream when Shoko says your name on the other line.
âYou still there?âÂ
âYeah, itâs justâŠâ
âJust what?â she queries, waiting for a response.Â
âI wanna use it, but my ex-husband took it. It feels weird, you know? And do I want to use a photo of me with the girls?â
âHon, who cares if Satoru took the photo? Itâs still a good photo, and to answer your second question, why wouldnât you include a picture with your girls?â
âI donât know, I guess Iâm just afraid no one will be interested. Nothing about a picture of a mom with her two daughters exactly screams âfuck meâ.â
Shoko lets out a small chuckle but youâre being serious. âOh, sweetie. Youâre so cute. Milfs are in these days, I donât think Iâm the one getting old, I think itâs just you!â
âHa-ha, laugh at the mom,â you feign annoyance, but give her a laugh in return.
âBut seriously, please use that photo. Nobodyâs going to skip you just because youâre a mom. A lot of men on there have kids of their own, just gotta tweak your settings,â Shoko reassures you.
By the end of your call, the profile is set. You thank your old friend for the previous heart-to-heart conversation, and the time she spent helping you set up your profile.
âKeep me updated, and donât talk about mom stuff, okay? Now, Iâm not saying you canât talk about them,â she begins, âbut show these guys your personality! I know sheâs in the closet somewhere hiding next to our old slutty clubbing clothes.â Â
Then, the both of you say your goodbyes and she wishes you a good-luck on your newly established dating journey. As you lay in your bed, you give your profile a final onceover. Not too bad, you think to yourself.Â
You ended up using all of the photos she had originally picked out for you. Even the beach photo. To compensate for your old photos, though, Shoko made sure that your prompts were witty and full of personality.Â
âIâd match me, I think. No, yeah, these are funny. She did a good job.â
The following day, you open your phone to fifty notifications from the dating app. A tingle of excitement shoots through your body from the tip of your toes, to the top of your head. It takes all of your might not to squeal in the office.Â
âHoly fuck,â you whisper at your desk. The amount of notifications that you initially saw on your homescreen read â50â but when you opened the app, it showed you an overwhelming â100â with a fat plus sign next to it. âWait, are these all the people who liked me? Shokoâs gonna flip.âÂ
Getting up from your chair, you make a beeline to the nearest bathroom. Not that you have to use it, but so you can scroll through all the potential prospects without your boss seeing you on your phone.Â
Pulling open the door to the bathroom, you close it shut behind you and lock it. A few minutes pass in the time youâre able to get through about half of the people who liked you. You end up skipping a lot of them. Theyâre either too young, too self-absorbed, creepy, or just downright not your type.Â
Some stick out, though. Even trick you into thinking theyâre potential matches, but then the other shoe dropsâbecause thereâs always another shoe. Youâll scroll through their profiles, and theyâll seemingly have all the perfect traits: intelligent, witty, handsome, tallâand then, boom. You see their âdonât want kidsâ preference. Every failed match only discourages you more and more.Â
Itâs weird, because your profile preferences are set to âhave kidsâ and you even have a photo pictured with your girls. So why are men liking your profile despite that? After a few more scrolls, youâre just about ready to head back to your desk but thenâyou have a hit.Â
Your finger hovers over the âxâ at the bottom of the screen, then retracts. The guyâs profile at first impression is miles better than the rest, itâs almost too good to be true. His first photo is what piqued your interest. Itâs of him posing for a silly photo with his sons, and heâs got his arms draped around their shoulders.Â
As you scroll down his profile, you see that thereâs even more of him with his children. You take this as a green flag. He wants people to know he has kids, and that he isnât embarrassed to show them off. You admire him for it.Â
The last few remaining photos are an amalgamation of selfies and full-body photos. To the average, well-adjusted adult, looks wouldnât be a deal breaker. But he definitely wasnât too bad on the eyes, and you were not complaining about thatâespecially, after the odd men you had to scroll through to get here. In other words, he was gorgeous and still fit despite being older than you (him, respectively being in his early forties).Â
Checking the time on your phone, you realize that youâre pushing your little âbathroom breakâ. Before heading back to your desk, you decide to respond to his first photo.
You: Cute! Could never get my girls to stand so still for a photo like this now haha :)
Work goes by slower than youâd like, but finishes up just in time when you get a notification from the dating app. Youâre a little more excited than youâd care to admit. Tidying up your workspace, you say your goodbyes to your colleagues and head to the elevator. Absent-mindedly, you rush to answer his message but realize it wonât go through because of the elevatorâs poor service.
Kazuki: Oh, theyâre moody and grown now, donât be fooled. I can't remember the last time I saw my youngest smile.Â
You donât answer his reply until you get home. Actually, you do just about everything but answer his reply: check on the girls, shower, prepare dinner, pour a glass of wineâyouâre nervous, and you donât know why. But you know you should probably answer soon before he becomes disinterested. So you get comfortable in bed with your glass of wine and pull open his chat.
You: Lol, know that all too well. Kids are little assholes, arenât they?
The speed in which he reads your text is startling, you donât even have enough time to close out of the chat. Then, he responds.Â
Kazuki: Hell yeah they are!Â
Kazuki: Sometimes I want to strangle my youngest. Heâs at that age where heâs starting to rebel and question everything. I told him he was supposed to be the âeasyâ one, but his knucklehead brothers are bad influences on himâŠTell me, does it ever get easier?
You: Sounds a lot like my oldest. She used to cling to me like a koala but now sheâs the ring leader, and Iâm the enemy. My youngest still loves her mama, though (for now lol).Â
You: And to answer your question, Iâd like to think so?Â
You take a second before continuing your response. Shoko told you to keep the mom talk limited, but this seems to be working for you so far, and heâs genuinely interested in what you have to say. So for once, youâre going to ignore her advice.Â
You: Kids go through phases. It's our job to reassure them that weâre not going anywhere. No matter how much they push us away or try to, that is :)
Kazukiâs chat bubbles pop up, then disappear. You think heâs deciding on what to say.Â
Kazuki: I can tell weâre gonna get along great. Itâs nice opening up like this, you know? Talking to another parent. If I'm being honest, dating apps have always intimidated meâŠ
Kazuki: People see kids as âbaggageâ, and it really bothers me. My kids arenât baggage. Theyâre the best parts of me. And if someone doesnât see that, then we have no business getting to know each other.Â
Kazuki: Sorry for getting all sappy. Just felt like I needed to say it.Â
His apology makes you frown. It feels like a breath of fresh air to hear someone talk about their kids so lovingly, because you feel the exact same way. Youâre glad you downloaded the app, and you make a mental note to thank Shoko again later (after you debrief her about this).Â
You: Never apologize for speaking about your kids! And if weâre being absolutely transparent, that was my biggest gripe with downloading this app, too.Â
You: Iâm so glad we matched each other. Iâd like to get to know you more. And Iâm hoping the feelingâs mutual?
Kazuki: Itâs more than mutual.Â
Kazuki: Donât want to get ahead of myself but how do you feel about dinner? Thereâs a cool high-scale restaurant in the city that I havenât been to yet. Heard itâs got two Michelin stars despite opening up not too long ago.Â
The prospect of going on a sit-down dinner date has your stomach in knots. Itâs been a hot minute since the last time youâve done so, but youâre eager to know the man behind the screen on a more personal level. Plus, being treated to a high-scale restaurant with two Michelin stars doesnât seem too bad either. Youâre never one to turn down free dinner.
You: Iâd love to, but how soon we talkinâ? Gotta see if itâll align with my schedule.
Kazuki: Howâs this Friday at 8 sound? :)
The days leading up to Friday breeze by in a blur. For the majority of the week, it feels like youâre walking on cloud nine. Eventually, the conversation transitions from the dating app to exchanging phone numbers, and since then, the two of you have been texting back-and-forth everyday.
You talk about mundane things. Work, shows, movies, books youâve recently read, what your kids are up toâbut the other things? The other messages are flirty, and sexy, and filled with so much tension that it could cut a rope in half.Â
In between messages, the two of you have also exchanged a few photos. Nothing risquĂ© or anything of that nature, just random photos of you throughout the day. The last one he sent was a few hours ago of him at work, captioned with: âCould this meeting be any longer?â.Â
You reply to the message with the âha haâ reaction, in consideration of not wanting to get him in trouble at work (even if he was the one who initiated the conversation). As the days go by, though, you make it a habit to update Shoko every step of the way.Â
Her first reaction to hearing about him was enthusiastic. That is, until you showed her screenshots from his profile. You vaguely remember her saying something that was meant as a compliment, but came out more like an insult.Â
ââOh, heâs a dad!â was her initial response, âoh, heâs a dadâŠand he really loves his kids. Youâre meant for each other.ââÂ
When you tried to ask her what she meant by that, she changed the subject. Every update since then has earned slightly more positive reactions, though.
Today, you ask her for more advice. Only this time, youâre on video call.Â
âShokoooo,â you drawl, âour date is tomorrow! You have to help me find something to wear.â The panic in your voice is so palpable, she can almost feel your shaky hands through the screen. Flipping the camera, you hurriedly pan your phone around the closet.Â
âBreathe, girl, breathe,â she demonstrates first, before telling you to repeat the same motions. âTake me to that section over thereâno, not that oneâwait, yep, there.â You amble over to the area sheâs directing you to through the phone.
âWhatâs that black little number right there?â She points. You prop the phone up on a shelf and scour through the section, tugging out a dress you havenât seen in ages (which has you questioning how she even spotted it because it was pretty far back into the closet). Walking back into frame, you hold the fabric up to your body.Â
Shoko nods in approval, âThatâs the one, babe. Try it on!âÂ
Itâd been about a decade since the last time you wore this dress. Itâd also been about a decade since you were ever this small. Looking in the mirror, you run your hands over every surface inch, every crevice of the dress, in a newfound sense of appreciation for the adult weight youâve gained since becoming a mother.Â
The dress was always stunning but it hugged everything perfectly even more so now. When you walk back into frame, your friend gives you a look of pure adoration. Sheâs so enthralled that she snaps a few screenshots for keepsaking.Â
âThank god itâs Satoruâs turn to get the kids tonight,â she says, ââcause youâre definitely getting some tonight.âÂ
You roll your eyes, reminding her sheâs on speaker phone. âOh, please. Itâs just dinner!â
âNot in that dress,â she retorts, wagging her finger in the camera. While the two of you continue to chat about the details of tonight, a knock on your bedroom door draws your attention.Â
âMom, can I come in?â the voice sounds. Itâs Haruki.Â
âCome in, hon!âÂ
After you give the ok, you turn to Shoko and mouth to her to behave. Haruki turns the knob and enters, closing the door behind her. She sees you standing in front of the mirror before you see her, and silently utters a âwowâ. Youâre just about done putting your earrings in when you join her in the other room.Â
âWhat do you think, bun? Does your mom look hot?â you spin around, smoothing your hands down the length of the dress. You wait in anticipation for her approval, because if anyone could tell it like it is, it was always going to be a kid. Your Haruki was no exception.Â
âYou look really pretty, Mom. Iâm glad youâre going out tonight, I mean, you donât really have friends so I think this will be good for you,â she elaborates, though you wish she wouldâve stopped at the compliment.Â
Still, it puts a smile on your face to hear her verbalize that sheâs okay with you doing something for yourself. You never quite discussed the prospect of getting back out there with your kidsâand not even intentionally. It just never felt like the right time.Â
âYou couldâve stopped at the compliment, punk!â you grab her, then wrap her in your arms, âbut thank you. Love you, bun.â
âLove you more, mama.â Neither of you make the effort to pull away. Instead, you both stand there. Hugging, breathing, embracing each otherâs warmth. You donât always get hugs this good, so when you do, you savor it. Drag it out until your arms and legs get all tingly.Â
Or until someone interrupts. Another knock on the door. This time itâs Hana.Â
âEw, whatâs going on?â Hana feigns a look of disgust. You know sheâs just jealous; sheâll never admit it, though. Which is why sometimes you have to force her to participate.Â
âGet over here,â you scrunch your nose, forcefully pulling her into your tight embrace. She tries to protest but eventually accepts defeat. You squeeze them both until they whine that they canât breathe anymore. Then you squeeze them some more because this oneâs for you.Â
âMy special girls,â you breathe in, taking in all of their love. Soaking it all up so that tonight you have the courage to try again. To allow yourself a love of your own. When you let go, thereâs a sniffle from the closet. It totally dawned on you that Shoko was still on the phone.Â
âTheyâre so big now, they donât even know their auntie,â she fakes a sob, blowing her nose into a tissue.Â
âMom, whoâs on the phone?â Haruki queries with a confused expression etched onto her face. It suddenly dawns on you again that although youâve been communicating with Shoko again, you havenât exactly told them.Â
âHey, you came in here to tell me something right, Han?â Your attempt to change the subject is poorly done, which doesnât come as a surprise to you considering deflection has never quite been an ability you excelled at. Nonetheless, the look of suspicion they give you after is fleeting before they explain to you in unison that their father is here.Â
âYour fatherâs been waiting down there this whole time and nobody cared to tell me?â you whisper-yell, left eye twitching to emphasize your ill-preparedness. The girls only shrug their shoulders in response, like this was something you were just supposed to know.Â
âWell, you did force us into a hug and make us do all that Kumbaya stuff,â Hana mumbles under her breath.
âOkay, enough about all that. Are you guys all packed? Where are your bags? I donât want your dad seeingââÂ
âYou donât want dad to see your date, right?â Hana raises a brow, all knowing. Sometimes she was a little too smart for her own good. You want to blame that on the private schools Satoru had them enrolled in, but really you just know sheâs just a menace in her own right. She learned that from him.Â
âI agree with the kid,â a voice chimes in. You rush to the closet and grab your phone from the shelf. Thereâs a huge, shit-eating grin on Shokoâs face. Somehow sheâs responsible for this. You donât know how yet, nor do you have proof, but you know it.Â
âOkay, thank you, love you, bye!â Before you can hang up, Shoko blurts something.Â
âTell him I said hi,â she begins, ââandnottogetahardonwhenheseesyou!â
You hang up the call and roll your eyes, chuckling to yourself because of her idiocy. When you enter the corridor, you hear a faint sound of hushed voices from downstairs. Itâs only when you round the bannister at the top, when those voices become discernible and louder.Â
You stop at the top, and when your eyes meet his, it feels like all the air in your lungs have expelled. Suddenly, youâre hyper-aware of what youâre wearing, and the fabric, and the way it clings to your body. Neither he, nor you, look awayâyou should, you want to, but you donât.Â
And in the time the two of you gaze upon the other, time stops for a modicum of a second. In this second, you and him are the last two souls in the world. At least, thatâs how it feels anyway before he breaks eye contact.Â
You shift your gaze shortly after, and put on a trained smile. Those eyes of his were always so intense. You guess you forgot over the years how easy it was to lose yourself in the crystalline pools of them. Gathering your wits, you resume your movements and saunter down the imperial staircase.Â
âHey, didnât mean to keep you waiting. Sort of lost track of time, but I think the girls are all packed,â you say, your voice coming to a decrescendo upon noticing the way his eyes trail over your frame. Theyâre unreadable, though. Indifferent, and honestly, youâre not sure how to feel. So, you begin fidgeting uncomfortably with the rings around your finger.Â
Then, he smiles. Itâs eerie and fake. âNot a problem, I havenât been here too long. But, uh,â he begins ambling around the place, touching random objects around the living room, âDidnât know you had plans. Whatâs the occasion? Going out for drinks with your colleagues?âÂ
You furrow your brows, confused with his sudden interests in your plans. It wasnât really like him to prod. âNo, actually,â you rock back-and-forth on the balls of your heels, âiâmâŠiâm going on a date,â you finish with a pursed smile. He only nods his head in response, still walking around the place touching stuff, messing with the picture frames on the mantle. Theyâre all crooked now.Â
âHow come this is the only picture you have up of me,â he asks suddenly. You know, that he knows, the answer to that. And he knows, that you know, youâll indulge in his games anyway.Â
âThe girls wanted them in their rooms. Why do you ask? You want me to go grab them and put âem all up around the house?â Again, he doesnât say anything. Just gives you a final once over before heading back to the foyer to ask if the girls are all set to go.Â
âYeah, but I canât find my tablet, dad. Can I go look for it?â Haruki speaks up. âI thought I packed it.â
Satoru looks at the time on his watch, pinches the crease in between his brows. âSure, kiddo. Can we make it quick, please?â He throws his hand in the air for emphasis, then points to his watch. Haruki nods, then runs up the stairs.Â
âActually, you go on up too and help your sister. You guys are holding up dad,â you turn to Hana and gesture for her to head up with your head. She rolls her eyes, yelling up the stairs for her younger sister to âfreaking hurry upâ.Â
You and Satoru both turn to each other with wide eyes, laughing at the nerve of those children.Â
âThey get that attitude from you, you know,â you point to him, driving your index finger into his bicep.Â
âYou sure? Their momâs got a pretty bad mouth on her, too. Or, have you forgotten?â He teases, bending his knees slightly to level his eyes with yours, intruding into your space. The smirk he dons is cheeky, too friendlyâtoo inviting. You want to smack it off of him.Â
âOh, shut uââ the sound of your phone chiming interrupts your banter. Itâs a message from Kazuki, and you open it while Satoru stands over you. Probably close enough to read the message on his own if he wanted.Â
Kazuki: Hey, I hate to do this but I donât think I can go through with tonight.Â
When you read the message, your heart drops into your stomach. There goes the other shoe, you think, fully embracing your pessimism. Who were you kidding, really? To think that tonight youâd go out and have a good time. Do something for yourself. It was stupidity.Â
Chat bubbles pop up on the screen. He has more to say.Â
He has more to say, and youâre fighting the urge to cryâto not shake out of sheer frustration while youâre still standing in front of Satoru. Because nothing would be worse than him seeing you canât even land a date.Â
Kazuki: I recently just went through a divorce, and I know that I should have informed you about this before continuing our conversationsâŠEspecially since youâve been so transparent with me about your own divorce and strife.
Kazuki: But if Iâm being completely honest, I was scared. I genuinely wanted to see this through, at first. I wanted to forget about my ex-wife for just one night. But I realized Iâve been asking the impossible of myselfâŠIâm still in love with her, and itâs because Iâm in love with her that I wonât allow myself to lead you on any further.Â
Kazuki: I think we wouldâve had a good time tonight. It's unfortunate we had to meet under such circumstances because youâre a really lovely woman, and Iâm sorry an asshole is standing you up right now.Â
Kazuki: Take care. I know thereâs a guy out there just waiting for his shot.Â
Satoru takes notice of the way your face drops as you read over the messages. Part of him wants to overstep his boundaries and take a peek at the screen. But he doesnât. He gives you your space and takes a seat on the couch, waits for you to say something first.Â
In the meantime, he studies your face. Watches intently as your eyes become glossy the more you scan the messages, watches as your bottom lip catches between your teeth to hold back from crying. He thinks he knows what just happened.Â
Taking a deep breath, you lock your phone and put on another trained smile, âWell, looks like Iâm staying in tonight.â Satoru dislikes when you do that. When you put on a fake smile and overcompensate to make others around you feel better, even when itâs so very obvious you arenât. He wishes that sometimes you would just be selfishâact out.Â
And then you continue the façade. It makes his skin itch.Â
âI was too tired anyway, guess I can just catch up oââ
âWill you stop,â he spits, rising from his seat on the couch to stand. It comes out harsher than he intended, but he doesnât regret it. You look at him like heâs got two heads as he walks over to the mantle and leans against it. His back is turned towards you, and the palms of his hands hold the crest of it. He uses it as leverage to rock on the heels of his feet. You can tell thereâs something he wants to say because of the way his jaw ticks.Â
Satoru is never one to bite his tongue, so youâre not exactly sure why heâs choosing to be so restrained. If he wasnât going to spit it out, you were going to poke. âWhatâs your problem?âÂ
He chuckles at this, rubs his chin then pushes off the mantle to stand in front of you, gets all in your space again. The movement almost sends you back but you hold your ground, tilt your chin up at him and repeat the question. Slowly, this time with more venom.Â
âMy problem? Whatâs your problem?â He breathes through his nose, his eyes flickering back-and-forth between your own. âWhy do you always pretend like youâre not lonely? Itâs okay if you were looking forward to having fun tonight. Itâs okay to be upset and be mad at the asshole who stood you up!â
With every verbal prod at you, the gap between you decreases. His feet inch closer and closer to your own and force you to retreat farther until your back hits the wall. The coldness of it causes your breath to hitch, and you try to stay calm as Satoru encroaches more into your personal space. Being on the receiving end of his passion was always suffocating, you feel exposed under the intensity of his gazeâeven more so as he continues to tear into you.Â
âWhy do you even care?!â you cut him off, eyes wide and veins pumping full of adrenaline. âItâs not your place to be so invested in my life anymore! Weâre not together, you donât have to get so hot and bothered about things going shitty for me. Iâm a big girl, and Iâm perfectly capable of fighting my own battles.âÂ
By the time you finish, youâre a heaving, shaking mess. He takes this as a sign to withdraw from your space, and goes to sit back down on the couch. When you finally settle your nerves, you join him, leaving a foot of space in between you. Thereâs an awkward silence, one that wouldnât have even happened if he just respected your boundaries in the first place. Now he feels like the asshole instead of the actual asshole who dumped you. Taking a hesitant breath, he decides to speak up.Â
âLook, Iâm sorry. I didnâtâŠIt wasnât my intention to come off so strong like that,â he begins, âI just wanted to let you know that you donât always have to pretend to be fine. Itâs not fair, you shouldnât do that to yourself.â His eyes wander over to you reluctantly, like heâs scared that if he looks too long youâll disengage from the conversation.Â
âItâs okay,â your voice is small, just above a whisper. You want to face him, but you know that if you do, you'll break into a million pieces. So you keep your gaze downward, busy yourself with the stray pieces of thread on the bottom of your dress. âYouâre right, you know. I think I justâŠI think I just tell myself to expect disappointment so that when something bad happens, Iâll know itâs not because I got my hopes up.âÂ
Satoru turns to you, and you can see him frown through your peripheral. Still, you donât face him because youâre not done talking. But you thank him silently for listening without interrupting.Â
âEven though youâre right, I donât appreciate the way you came on so strongly. Weâre not married anymore, weâre not a coupleâweâre co-parents. So if thereâs something I want you to know about thatâs outside of the scope of our kids, Iâll let you know. Otherwise, leave it alone.â
Satoruâs face softens. For once youâre being selfish, putting your foot down. This is the side of you he likes. âOkay. I respect that,â he says, âBut can I ask you something?â The smile on his face is mirthful, like heâs got something else up his sleeves this evening. Skeptical, you finally face him with a raised brow.Â
âWhat?â
âLet me take you to dinner.âÂ
You laugh in his face, even go as far as smacking his arm because you want him to know you found the joke really funny. He doesnât budge, and thatâs when you realize heâs being serious.Â
âWait, what?âÂ
âLetâs go to dinner,â he stands up, crossing his arms across his chest. You tilt your head in disbelief. Youâre just waiting for someone to tell you youâre on that old reality show punkâd.Â
âFunny, I just poured my heart out to you and now youâre making fun of me,â you roll your eyes, feigning annoyance.Â
âIâm being serious,â he reassures, âyouâre already dressed up. Itâd be a shame for it to go to waste.â His eyes are twinkling with hope, and once again, you find yourself falling victim to their persuasiveness.Â
Being under Gojo Satoruâs gaze was suffocating.Â
Giving in, you ask, âSo what are you gonna do? Drive all the way home to get dressed?âÂ
The question is genuine, but the bastard just grins. âIâm a little hurt,â he throws a hand over his heart, âdonât you know me by now? Iâm a businessman. I keep pressed blazers and slacks on me at all times.â
He swings his keys around his index finger, hoping that the promise of a spare change of clothes being in his car is enough to convince you to say yes.Â
âI donât knowâŠâ you trail.Â
âCâmon, let me take you out. I promise you wonât regret it.â
Somehow he was able to persuade you into going out. After he changed into his spare clothes, you ended up telling your girls that there was gonna be a change of plans, and that theyâd go home with their dad tomorrow.Â
Of course, before leaving, you made sure to leave some money on the table for pizza, and you also made sure to drill into their heads not to open the door for anyone except the delivery guy. You knew they knew the drill already, but it didnât feel right to leave without saying it anyway.Â
âBe good, listen to your sister, sheâs in charge,â you pinch Harukiâs cheek. Hana smirks, nodding her head in agreement with you.Â
âI will mom, I know,â she huffs, crossing her arms.
âAnd you,â your finger wags at Hana, her smirk drops. âDonât provoke your sister, be nice. Act like you love each other, please.âÂ
âFine, whatever. I guess,â she grabs the knob to the door, ready to kick the both of you out already. âSo does this mean the two of you are back together, or?âÂ
Satoru and you turn to each other before answering in unison, âNo.âÂ
âOkay, cool. Well, have fun,â she practically closes the door on the two of you, locking it after. Satoru is just as dumbfounded as you are, but then you break into a fit of laughter.Â
âThose kids, man.â
âYour kids!â you correct, pushing him playfully as the both of you walk down the pebbled pathway. He finds his equilibrium in time to unlock the car and open your side of the door. You pause before ducking inside.
âOh, how gentlemanly of you,â you jest, âAnd they say chivalry is dead.â
âHow could it be when Iâm alive?â He says matter-of-factly, closing your side of the door. He taps the top of the car before sliding across the hood to the other side. Nice to see some things never changed.Â
When he gets inside and turns on the car, he puts his hand on the back of your seat to back out. The proximity sends a shiver down your spine, and you have to physically refrain from letting your eyes linger on his jaw, and his arms, and the face he makes when heâs trying to concentrate.Â
You try to dispel these less-than-friendly thoughts by looking somewhere, anywhere else but him. But you canât, and itâs irritating.Â
This is the second time tonight youâve been this close, and itâs only this time that you realize something about him isâŠdifferent. Earlier, he didnât really smell like anything, but you quickly notice his smell has changed.Â
Thereâs a sort of piney scent coming from him. Itâs not strong or obnoxious enough to blind your nostrils, but itâs enough for you to just barely pick up on it. You almost think it was premeditated, that he took the liberty of spritzing some on before walking you to the car. Before you separated, heâd made it a habit to wear variations of woody scents for you. If you can recall correctly, a passing comment you made about the cologne he was wearing that day is what sparked the habit.Â
Surely, this couldnât be coincidental?Â
âYou smell nice,â you blurt, filling in the silence.Â
Satoru glances at you, âThank you.â You hate that from the corner of your eye, you can see his stupid little smirk growing bigger by the minute. He already had a big ego, it didnât need to be stroked any more.Â
âDonât let it go to your head, though. You usually smell pretty rank.â
âOhhh, is that so? Guess I gotta start wearing this more often then, huh?â
âSure, do what you want,â you say, trying to remain indifferent even though youâre failing terribly to hide your smile. When the car approaches a red light, you finally decide to ask the big question. âSo where are you taking me?âÂ
âYouâll see,â he glances over, âJust know Iâm good friends with the owner, so last minute reservations weren't a problem.âÂ
The rest of the car ride is silent, save for the low hum of the music playing on the radio. When you arrive at the location, Satoru makes sure to walk all the way around to your side of the door again and open it. Immediately after, the two of you are greeted by a young male. Heâs wearing a white button down, black slacks, and a black vest with a red tie. Judging by his appearance, you assume heâs a valet driver.Â
Satoru drops his keys in the driverâs hands, and escorts you towards the entrance. The boy bows and goes to park the car. Looking around, you start to wonder where exactly this place is supposed to be. The area is dark and secluded, and from where you stand outside, it doesnât sound like thereâs supposed to be a restaurant here. You donât hear any voices, you donât even see any security or other passerbyers.Â
Still, you follow behind him like a duckling, only coming to a halt when he leads you to a door taller than the both of you. He gestures for you to back up, then raises his knuckles to blow a strong, single knock. Youâre taken by surprise when a set of angry eyes appear behind a slot in the door.Â
The pair of eyes first scan over you, then Satoru. A gruff voice is second to accompany them, âWhere can I get a good drink?âÂ
âI heard the bar down the street is nice,â Satoru answers. The hatch to the door closes, then swings open the door, and the man behind it moves aside to welcome you in.
âFollow me, please.â Once he closes the door, he begins guiding you down the dimly lit hallway. After making what seems like your hundredth turn, you eventually reach a staircase. The man gestures for you to go on ahead, and you think this is him implying where the three of you will depart.
âThank you,â you say softly, disappearing down the stairs. Satoru isnât too far behind, keeping a pace between you. As you near the end of the long, narrow hallway, a stream of white light brightens up your whole path. It leads you down to another door like a beacon of light, and when you reach it, you can hear voices, live music, and dishes clanking on the other side. Itâs bustling with life. A huge, joyous smile plasters across your face. Itâs almost child-like in appearance, like you havenât seen something this cool in a long time.Â
Satoru stands beside you and winks. âWhat dâya think? Any idea yet where we are?âÂ
âI think this is fucking cool, and hm,â you take a second to mull it over, âare we at a speakeasy?âÂ
âSmart girl. Now come on.â Stepping back, you allow him to pull open the door, and when he does, there isnât a word to describe the atmosphere of the place you step into. All you can do is stand there in astonishment. Before long, a man walks up to you.Â
âWelcome, what is the name you reserved under?âÂ
âGojo.â
Nodding, the host instructs you to follow after him. He leads you to a private seating area, somewhere far in the back thatâs secluded from the other patrons. The space is much bigger, and much more extravagant. You know youâre only sitting way back here because Satoru is who he is. And in all the years youâve known him, his connections were just another party trick in his arsenal.Â
The hostess seats you, then Satoru, and tells you that a waiter will be with you shortly.Â
âThis is nice, really nice, but is itââ
âLegal?â he finishes your sentence, âdonât worry. Itâs a modern speakeasy-style restaurant. Thereâs nothing illegal going on here, promise.âÂ
While you wait for your designated waiter, your focus shifts from the man in front of you to the man singing on the stage. Up until now, his voice was white noise in the background, but then he started singing a tune scarily reminiscent of your pastâand your breath catches in your throat.Â
If I ever leave you, baby
You can say I told you so
And if I ever hurt you
You know, I hurt myselfâŠ
Turning your gaze back to Satoru, you squint your eyes mirthfully in disbelief. You wonder if this is just a funny coincidence, if this is the universe playing her tricks, but you know deep down, that coincidences and Gojo Satoru donât belong in the same sentence.Â
You open your mouth to speak, but quickly close it when you see the waiter approaching from the corner of your eye. He greets the both of you with a polite smile, then sets down two glasses of water.Â
âGood evening, Iâll be your waiter for the night,â he says, placing a menu in front of you, âCan I get you fine folks started off with a bottle of wine?âÂ
Satoru nods, tells him to bring the best bottle of red they have and then gestures for him to come closer so that he can whisper something in his ear. All the while, you sit back in your seat observing, clicking your nails on the table until the server pulls back and bows.Â
When he departs, you immediately lean in over the table, and ask, âJust how much time did you have to plan all of this?âÂ
Satoru feigns aloofness, taking a sip of his water, âWhat do you mean?âÂ
You roll your eyes, gesturing at the stage with your eyes. Then, as if suddenly coming to a realization, he goes, âOh, that? Yeah, I had nothing to do with that. But isnât it funny theyâre playing our old song?âÂ
Now heâs smirking, with his elbow leaning back on the chair, and a gaze so piercing, youâre certain youâll crumble into nothing unless you look away. So you do, avert your gaze back to the stage and sway calmly.Â
Is that any way for a man to carry on
Do you think I want my loved one gone
Said I love you
More than youâll ever know
More than youâll ever know
âSo funny,â you counter.Â
Eventually, the server comes back with a bottle. â1982 Chateau Latife Rothschild,â he holds it out to present, âIs this alright?âÂ
Despite the years spent with Satoru, and the many elitist events you often attended with him, your knowledge on wine had never surpassed anything but surface level. You knew the difference between good wine and cheap wine was the taste, but your taste buds had grown accustomed to store-bought, so if anything, store-bought tasted like heaven to you. Anyway, though, you nod your head and urge him to pour a glass.Â
âThank you,â you smile, before gently swirling the glass and bringing it up to your nose to smell (something you only know to do after being the odd man out at so many company banquets). Satoru waits for you to sip your glass before he sips his. The way you melt into your seat is a silent assurance that youâre pleased.Â
âThis is great, youâre amazing,â you tell the server, who seems pleased by your compliment.Â
âGlad to be of service, miss. Are you ready to order?âÂ
Dinner goes by smoothly. In fact, it goes by so smoothly, you and Satoru finish the entire bottle of wine. Now you sit at the table, bellies full, faces flushed and sore from laughing, and now you find yourself telling him about the grocery store incident. If you had half a mind (a sober one), youâd shut up right this second to save yourself from the embarrassment. But you donât. And Satoruâs very persuasive when youâre tipsy.Â
âKeep going,â he leans in, hand nestled under his chin. Heâs completely invested in the story. Actually, as soon as he heard the words âstoreâ and âcute guyâ, he just had to know more. And you begging him to change the subject didnât help, not when the sadist in him loved to see you so embarrassed.Â
âFine,â you hiccup, âIt was so - so bad, Toru.â He doesnât miss the way you slip and call him by the nickname youâd always reserved for him. It makes his heart race, and god, does he miss the way it sounds spilling from your lips. But he ignores the feeling, and refocuses on your story instead. Which, by the way, was proving to be a task in itself because his eyes couldnât stop drifting back down to your lips. So soft, soâ
âAnd then she said âwe donât believe in rings,ââ you whisper, fist coming down on the table. The sound it makes nearly sobers you up, and you realize just how loud youâre being despite your table being secluded from others. Giggling like a kid, you continue, âI mean, how fucking insane is that?!âÂ
âSomething as bizarre as that could only ever happen to you,â he replies, laughing along with you, âthose people were crazy.âÂ
âThe craziest,â you agree, throwing your head back in another fit of laughter. Gradually, the two of you begin to settle down, and once again, you find your attention being drawn back to the man on the stage. Only this time, heâs making an announcement.
âGood evening ladies and gentleman. Tonight Iâve got a special request,â he says, looking out into the audience. Looking at you. âThis oneâs for a very special lady who, from what Iâve been told, is a great mother that needs to start doing things for herself.âÂ
The singer steps out of the spotlight and hands the note to a server. Your server. Then he begins to sing, and your heart drops into the pit of your stomach. It was your wedding song.Â
[...] I donât even know how to love you
Just the way you want me to
But Iâm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
Yes, Iâm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
âNow this one? This one was me,â Satoru leans forward, and you swiftly turn your head to face him. He smiles as he watches your face go through ten different emotions before ultimately softening. It warms your heart to see how incredibly planned this evening was, despite the amount of time he was given to work with. Even so, it kind of scares youâbecause then that meant this was a grand gestureâthat this was his way of saying something. And you werenât too sure if you wanted to hear it. Your gaze drops to your lap, and Satoru frowns.Â
To fall in loveÂ
To fall in love
To fall in love with youâŠ
âLook at me,â he says softly, but you donât. âHey, look at me.â He reaches over the table to take your chin in between his fingers. The touch alone feels electric. Sends liquid hot lightning down the column of your spine. Reluctantly, you meet his gaze, and like always, itâs suffocating. Theyâre so wide with hope, and so, so gentle in the way they hold you. The longer you gaze upon them, the more you convince yourself itâll be okay if you surrender to them.Â
âItâs been years since weâve divorced,â his voice is shaky, almost strained, like heâs actively thinking how to choose his words carefully, âand when we sat down that night, I thought it was what I wanted, too, you know? And for a while, it was,â he reaches a hand across the table to rest atop your own, âbut you gotta knowâŠyou gotta knowâyouâre it for me. Thereâs no one else on this Earth that I want to start over with. Youâve always been the beginning and end of my story, and Iâll be damned if I let another man start one with you.â
Your heart is beating faster than you can even process what heâs saying. The only thing youâre focused on is not passing out in the middle of this damn restaurant. But then heâs squeezing your hand, and your focus is drawn back to those piercing, pale blues that even put crystals to shame.Â
âSo what do you say?â he says, so softly, so tender. âCan we try again?â
Waiting for your reply, he squeezes your hand again. Itâs like your soul is wandering the line between death and the living, and his touch is the tether that brings you back. In the background, the tune of the song sung at your wedding gives you a push of courage.Â
I donât even know how to kiss your lips (kiss your lips)
At a moment like this
But Iâm going to learn how to doÂ
All the things you want me to
Yes, Iâm ready
(Are you ready?) Yes, Iâm ready
To fall in love
To fall in love
To fall in love right now
âYes.â
The walk back to the car is hurried. Aided by both, years and years of built up tension, and the liquid courage currently bubbling in your systems.Â
The race back to his apartment is even faster. You thank the gods silently that itâs within close proximity to where you just were.Â
Once you get there, make your way past the doorman and concierge (who both give the two of you a knowing look), go up the elevator, and finally get into his loftâitâs over. Years of restraint, years of pretending, wantingâyearning, come crashing down.Â
Thereâs barely any time to close the door before heâs pushing you against it. His lips trail down the column of your neck, then come up to kiss your jaw, until eventually, they find your lips. And when they do, itâs instantaneousâthat familiar feeling, the feeling that feels almost like falling.Â
Once again, for what felt like centuries, you feel again the rush of helplessness. The push and pull of the tide. It brings you down, down, down to the bottom of the ocean floor, and itâs unmerciful.Â
Kissing Satoru is like being shocked with ten thousand volts of energy. Like all this time youâve spent not kissing him, has been costing you your life, and heâs the only one who can deliver you salvation. Itâs all teeth and tongue for a minute. Messy, and sticky, and nasty. A true testament to the desperation brewing in the pits of both your stomachs.Â
The sensation of it all has your knees going slack, and thatâs when he saysâ
âJump.âÂ
Obeying, you do just that. Jump right into his arms, and wrap your legs around his torso like youâve done so many times before. The way you feel now is the way you used to feel before then, too. Like you were made to fit like this. To be held in his arms like you were molded from the same clay.Â
Carefully, he adjusts his grip on your body. Keeps his palms planted on the bottoms of your ass, and begins the trek to his room. He struggles a bit getting there because you havenât stopped kissing since entering the apartment, but he figures it out after a stumble or two (which resulted in a bitten lip and you apologizing profusely through giggles).Â
âThe turbulence up here is crazy, donât blame me, blame the pilot,â you jest, kissing down his neck to make up for it.Â
âIâll make sure to let him know,â he jokes back. As soon as he gets to the bed, he sets you down at the edge of the bed. You try to bring him down to your height but he stops you, wags his finger in your face playfully before using it to push you back into the bed. His fingers start to play with the fabric of your dress, and then his face takes on an indifferent expression. The same one from earlier that night when he first saw you walking down the stairs.Â
âCanât believe you were gonna wear this for himâŠâ he trails, lifting the fabric up slowly, eyeing you while doing so, âas if this dress doesnât mean something.âÂ
Of course, when Shoko chose it, its significance did make you falterâbut in your defense, not once did you ever anticipate for him to see you in it. And you especially didnât expect for him to remember it, the last time you wore it was almost a decade ago.Â
âI didnâtâŠâ you start, a smile creeping on your lips, âthink you remembered?â
ââCourse I did, how could I not?â He says more sharply than intended, taking offense. He takes offense because he spent the better half of the night showing you he remembered. The little things and everything else in between. Couldnât you see that?
âIt was our 4th anniversary. Bought you this dress and fucked you in it that same night. Funny how the second time Iâm seeing you in this dress, the circumstances are the same except only this time weâre divorced,â he says, crawling over your body. âGuess I gotta show you just how much I remember.âÂ
With that, he slips a hand under your dress, pulls your panties to the side and runs a finger down your slit. Oh-so-willingly, do you spread your legs for him. Itâs almost subconscious, the way your body responds to him. And he revels in it. Lets his fingers work you, feel you, bring you to ecstasy. Then he heightens your pleasure tenfold when he kisses his way down your body, and takes a seat before you on his knees.Â
Unceremoniously, he pulls your body to the edge of the bed. Takes his time slipping your panties down the length of your legs, then kisses the insides of your thighs, before finally stopping at your mound.Â
Slowly, he lowers himself to your cunt, kisses your clit softly. Once, twice, three times. The pace in which heâs moving is killing you, to say the least. But you know heâs savoring the moment, making up for all the years he spent not kneeling like this between your legs. So you let him; let him caress you all over before he comes seeking the honey-sweet salvation dripping from your core.Â
The second his tongue makes contact with your heat, you find yourself clamping a heavy hand over your mouth. âFuck, Toruuuu,â you drawl, back arching off the bed. Pleased with his abilities, he smiles smugly, using this as an opportunity to push himself even deeper. Up and down, he licks at your slit, uses his fingers in tandem with his tongue to prod at that spongy spot he knows you love.Â
âTastes,â a harsh suck, âso good,â another, âbetter than I remember.âÂ
You know heâs talking, but his words fall on deaf ears. Youâre so caught up in your own high, you donât even take notice of the obscene sloshing sounds coming from your pussy, or the moans youâre making. All you can do is lay there and take it as he takes, and takes, and takes from you.Â
Soon, you find your orgasm cutting through you like a knife, and you come with a strangled cry that has you biting back tears. Satoru talks you through the whole thing. He lays his head down on your thigh and continues working you with his fingers until you start to shake from the overstimulation.Â
For a few, you lay and stare at the ceiling. You think you can see the Milky Wayâand all the constellations that make it up. It feels like your soul is floating beyond your physical body, and you donât come back down to Earth until a sharp, stinging sensation brings you back. Did he just?
âDid you just bite me?â you lift your head, peering down to see the evidence. In all its glory, there it was; a red ring smack-dab in the inside of your thigh with teeth imprints. Looking at Satoru, he grins.Â
âHad to get you back from earlier,â he says, sitting back on his knees. You attempt to kick him with your foot, but he grabs hold of it. Pretending to be wounded, he gasps, âIs this how you treat the man who just gave you a soul-shattering orgasm?âÂ
You roll your eyes, but to your dismay, it only encourages him to continue.Â
âFuck, Toru,â he mimics, âoh my god, Toru. You fuck me so gooââ
âAlright, enough!â you manage to kick him this time, laughing as you bring up your hands to cover your face. âKeep carrying on like that and I wonât let you fuck meâŠâ Youâre serious in your bite, but heâs smirking. Like he knows youâre full of bullshit.Â
âYeah right. You and I both know I make you feel too good.âÂ
Feeling bested, you scoff, though, thereâs no real weight behind it. While he begins to remove his shirt, you sit up and replace his hands. He relinquishes control and allows you to unbutton it until the item falls haphazardly to the floor.Â
Heâs so beautiful, you think. Still so chiseled, so perfect after all these years since youâve last seen him like this. At his most vulnerable. The only difference now is that there are more freckles littered across his skin. Back then, heâd say they were signs of aging, and heâd hate them.Â
But heâs older now. More mature. So much so that he even winks at you when you trace your fingertips over them.
âThey suit you,â you whisper.Â
âYeah?â
You nod your head, âmhm.âÂ
Continuing your ministrations, you begin removing his belt. He holds your gaze the entire time it takes for you to unzip his pants and pull them downâand he doesnât once shy away when you discover the wet spot on the front of his briefs. Slowly, delicately, you remove the soiled item and let it fall down to the floor with the rest of his clothes.Â
Still looking at him, you take hold of his length and fist him once, twice, experimentally. A dribble of pre oozes from his slit and you bring it to your mouth. All the air in his lungs expel into the air when you lick it off with your tongue, and god, he thinks he could come from that alone.Â
God, heâs missed you. Missed your touch, your lipsâthe way you hold him with your eyes like heâs something worth being gentle with. Nothing could ever compare to you, not even his own hand.Â
As soon as youâre about to take him in your mouth, he stops you. Pushes you back down onto the bed and slots himself between your legs. âNo more playing, Iâm tired of playing,â he breathes, lowering himself down until half of his weight is on top of you.Â
Guiding his cock to your entrance, he pushes past your folds with little resistance. The feeling of your cunt squeezing him in has his arms wobbling like jelly, but he musters enough strength somehow to stay up. You, on the other hand, are close to tears.Â
The more he eases himself in, the more you feel like youâre being stretched open (despite him previously prepping you). If you were being truthful, this wasnât a complete shock to you. Youâve known that heâs always been big, but something about tonight feels different. Or maybe itâs just been too long since youâve had something more than just your own fingers.Â
Even so, you try your best to ignore the burn of the stretch. You throw your arms around his neck and invite him deeper into you, hooking your legs around him so tightly that it renders his limbs useless. For a minute, all you can feel is the weight of him inside of you, and his chest against yours as they rise and fall asynchronously.Â
âToru,â your voice is just barely above a whisper, but enough to make the hairs on the nape of his neck stand. âMake love to me.âÂ
Heeding your request, he begins moving. Painfully slow, he unsheathes himself from you until only the head of his cock is inside, then pushes himself all the way back in with force. Again, and again, he repeats this motion. Pulls out, pushes in. Pulls out, pushes in, until he decides to increase his pace and set a steady rhythm.Â
Every thrust into you is meticulously calculated. Sharp, and forceful, and not once does he disrupt the rhythm. He listens carefully to the sounds you make. Even listens to the way your breath hitches when he hits a spot right. Everything heâs doing is perfectâand itâs to no surprise. Deep down, you know that Satoru knows your body like the back of his hand. Heâd know it if you were all old and wrinkly. Heâd know it if his soul reincarnated. Hell, heâd know it blind.Â
âMissed this,â he grunts, burying his head into the interstice of your neck, âmissed you,â a kiss to your neck, âmissed us.âÂ
The veracity of his words render you speechless. Heâs already professed his feelings for you tonight, but it feels even more real now that youâre beneath him. To be loved by Gojo Satoru was a feeling many couldnât say they had the consolation of knowing. Only a few in his circle could hold that positionâbut only one person in this world could truly ever know his love to its fullest extent. You.Â
Satoru continues his mindless rambling, âI love you,â a thrust, âitâs always been you,â another, âwas always going to be you.â Leaning back on his heels, he pushes your dress all the way up to reveal your breasts. Now itâs him who sits back and admires this time. As if he were reacquainting himself, he traces the planes and pastures of your chest with an eager hand. He runs it up and over each mound, squeezing and kneading the flesh experimentally.Â
Then, he dips down and kisses the space between them. Sucks and licks until the skin bruises, and he has evidence to prove tonight actually happened. Eventually, he withdraws from your chest and returns his focus on easing his cock in and out of your cunt.Â
âSo beautiful,â he says, but itâs more to himself than anything. Youâre so lost in your own pleasure, he doesnât even think you can hear him. âWant you to cum on my cock, know you can do it, baby. Know you can,â he grunts, taking your hand and intertwining it with his own. Letting his head fall into your neck, he begins to quicken his pace. Fucks into you with everything heâs got and willing to give.Â
âToru,â you finally manage to say, ââm so close, keep going. Do it - do it inside.âÂ
Do it inside. Do it inside. Do it inside. The thought is tempting, too tempting. It makes his dick twitch inside of you, and he swears if you say it again, heâll actually do it. But he knows better than to listen to anything you say out of delirium.Â
âTrust me, sweet girl,â he cradles your face, to which you lean into, âI want to - I want to so fucking badly. But we both know youâd regret it later.âÂ
Whining, your lips form into a pout, and the sight is so cute, he canât help but to kiss it off of you. Compared to your kiss earlier, this one is much sweeter. Slower. More relaxed. He kisses you with the intent of making you dizzier than you already are, and itâs scary. Even so, you donât pull away. You allow him to drink you up. Like your lips are the only source of water around, and heâs been quenched for days.Â
Finally, with a few more thrusts, you reach your climax. The pressure building in the pit of your belly pops like a balloon, and everything goes white. âToru!â you shriek, arching off the bed and trembling in his grasp.Â
Using your arch as leverage, he keeps his hands underneath your back and continues to ram into you without abandon. Youâre a babbling, wet mess at this point, and your cunt squeezing around him only encourages him more.Â
âFuckfuckfuck, âm gonna - âm gonna,â he curses, balls beginning to tighten. Quickly, he unsheathes himself and fists himself the rest of the way. With an impassioned moan, he climaxesâspurting thick, white, ropes of seed all over your abdomen. Then, falls onto your limp body with a grunt, chest heaving rapidly, and slick with perspiration.Â
By this time, youâve settled down enough to form a proper sentence. âThat wasâŠâ
Satoru huffs, catching his breath. âYeah.âÂ
Still spent, he continues to lay atop you. And you, having nowhere else to go, let him. The two of you lay comfortably in silence like this for a long time. Just you tracing shapes into his back, and him purring into your neck. Both of you know you should be getting up, but neither of you make an effort to do so. In this moment, time is transcendent. There is no rush to move when time stands still for you.Â
Soon, that silence is broken.Â
âI love you,â you say, and thereâs no elaboration. Not even a recant. In fact, you say it so nonchalantly, heâs not even sure it was real. You say it like youâve never been more certain in your life, like itâs the easiest thing youâve ever had to do.Â
âReally?â he queries, almost pathetically like the mere idea of you loving him is something unattainable. You look at him like heâs got two heads.Â
âYeah, youâre my best friend. Iâve always loved you,â you admit, pausing your ministrations on his back, âI just had to relearn how to love you.â He smiles at this, hums into your neck to keep from crying.Â
âIâm glad we found our way back to each other,â he mumbles into your neck, âso where do we go from here?â
âFrom here we take it slow. Weâll learn together what it means to be individuals, and then from there weâll see where it goes,â you say matter-of-factly, âno more repeating past mistakes.â
âAgreed,â he nods, âwhat will we tell the girls?â
Thatâs when your eyes widen and you sit up, forcefully pushing Satoru off of you.Â
âWhat did I say, whatâs wrong?â he queries, sitting up on the bed. He watches you rummage around the room maniacally, head on a swivel as you run out of the room and return with a purse. You pull your phone out to see a slew of missed calls and messages.Â
âWe forgot to call the girls!â You yell, showing him your phone screen of missed calls. Gojo jumps up to join you, one leg already sliding into his pants.Â
âShit!âÂ
Noticing the state of your appearance, you pinch the skin between your brows. âSatoru, I canât wear this! You got cum all over it,â you groan, pointing to all the splotches of white. He tells you to wait a second before disappearing into his closet, then he comes back with a fist of clothes and throws it at you.Â
âI canât wear this either, theyâll wonder why Iâm wearing your clothes!âÂ
Satoru runs to you and pull the dress off of your body, âWeâll wash it!â he screams, disappearing again out of the room, and to where you imagine, the laundry room. When he returns, heâs out of breath and panting. Itâs only then do you realize how insane he looks with half his shirt buttoned, and his pants twisted around his hips. A giggle escapes your lips.
âWhat are you laughing at? Chop chop,â he claps, ushering you into his bathroom.Â
Yeah, youâd be lying if you said you didnât miss this idiot.

PAC How Will Your Future Spouse View You
Pile 1 Pile 2 Pile 3
DISCLAIMER THIS IS A GENERAL READING TAKE WHAT RESONATES AND LEAVE WHAT DOESN'T.
Strictly for entertainment purposes.
PILE 1
So, before I get into the tarot bit of the reading the overall vibe I am getting is that you and your future spouse will be that couple that are still doing cute stuff together even in old age. You know those older couples you see on TikTok on dates still happy and very much in love, yeah like that. One word I can use to describe it is cozy, just very warm and affectionate basically feeling like this person is your home. It's going to be like 'I'd rather come home to you then be anywhere else'.
On to the tarot bit, Your FS sees you as someone very confident and optimistic (even if you don't see yourself that way). They see you as being positive and very wholesome. Again, before I pulled cards I channelled and I still got the warmth.
Oh my gosh, if any of you have read The Song of Achilles that's basically it. Before anyone points out to me they were a same sex couple .Yes, I know but I am talking about the relationship dynamic between Patroclus and Achilles.
You may have gone through a difficult time in your life and your future spouse will admire how strong and resilient you are, how you're able to adapt to challenges and changes in environment. You may be the type of person who is connected to both their divine feminine and masculine and they truly find that attractive.
They certainly view you as their other half and I know its cliche to say soulmate but that's all your future spouse is saying. You just give them so much happiness and emotional fulfilment.
'They are my home, my soulmate, my forever'
PILE 2
Ugh Pile 2 your spouse will literally worship youđ©. Like you'll tell them your insecurities and they'll just sit there kissing every scar, mark, dimple anything you're insecure about they'll adore. If you're a female or a feminine reading this and you have thick thighs I heard them say 'Come here and crush my skull with those sexy thighs'. Whoever you are you have someone's poor child down horrendous for you.
I think they may be the type to just watch your social media whether you are getting to know each other, dating, engaged or married your social media pages, pictures and videos will always be on their phone screen and they won't go to sleep without listening to a little voice message you sent. Once they get attached baby there's absolutely no getting rid of them, I heard 'You'll have an easier time getting rid of bed bugs'.
When you meet them, they may be a party animal or a player.
Disclaimer it's not toxic obsession more like they will let you be your own person but at the end of the day they are yours and you are theirs, you are their spouse, and they are your spouse and they will forever put you on a pedestal not to the open where they will neglect themselves.
They see you as a prize (again not in a creepy way) You may have options when you meet this person but best believe they'll make sure to stand out and win you over. They see you as the best the world has to offer in terms of what a wife/husband/spouse should be. Your person may have had a few letdowns when it came to love and just know that they see you as a dream come true and again, I know that's very cliche but trust me when Isay they view having you as a spouse as their biggest accomplishment and they want you to know that they'll prove to you every day they are worthy to call themselves your spouse. They feel like you have gone through a period of depression and sadness, and they want you to know that they acknowledge it and they see you as strong every day.
The couple I channelled for you guys is Queen Charlotte and King George from Bridgerton.
PILE 3
First thing I heard 'Sugar Daddy'. This person will spoil you but love you even more. Yes, they may have money and give you gifts but this person truly does love you, care about you and respect you.
They may be older than you that's why people may think that they are your glucose guardian which is not technically wrong and not technically correct either. I feel like that will be a long term joke you two have about them being your sucrose supplier..
They will definitely view you as delicate, I want to say that they are the protective type but not protective to the point of you feeling suffocated by them. They want you to be comfortable and have what you like 'If my spouse wants that watch I'll get it for them'.
They will view you as fun loving, yet you have this air of power to you that they love. Sure, they view you as delicate and they want to protect you, but they also view you as strong and beyond capable of taking care of yourself and those around you basically your spouse is saying 'they want me, but they don't need me'. They know that you can walk away from them anytime and they like that you're always in your power no matter what.
Your spouse admires how you don't need them to feel whole or for financial gain they see you as a breath of fresh air, a change of pace, an adventure.
He may touch you a lot with your consent obviously, like a hand on your waist, shoulder or they may steal little quick kisses. Also, there may be a lot of friendly banter in the relationship.
The couple I channel for you guys is Fallon and Liam from Dynasty.

cupid
pairing: eddie munson x female!reader
summary: you swear cupid hates you but maybe heâll finally take mercy when you meet eddie.Â
warnings: reader insecurity, slight period misogyny, mostly fluff, eddie being a cutie patootie, inspired by cupid by fifty fifty <3Â
word count: 2.4k+
masterlist
You were starting to think that Cupid had a personal vendetta against you.
Three failed dates in a row, all with different guys.
You were optimistic about the first date. After hitting it off with a friend of a friend at a party, you agreed to go on a date with themâa simple movie and dinner. Â Only you didnât make it to dinner since your date started hysterically sobbing after watching the newest rom-com. Apparently, he was missing his ex, and seeing two people in love on screen was the breaking point.
The second date came and went. Another movie and dinner but this time you actually made it to dinner. Which you quickly regretted when he kept trying to play footsie with you under the table. At the end of the date, he leaned in for a kiss. You panicked and dodged which had your date kissing the brick wall behind you instead. You didnât hear back from him again.
On your third date, you lowered your expectations exponentially. You wanted to play it safe and have a coffee date. It started out normal enough. In fact, you were even having fun. He made you laugh until the conversation drifted to the topic of the future. You told him you wanted to get out of this small town and get a job.
For some reason, that made him extremely upset. He started talking about how women shouldnât ever work and that the only work you should do is cleaning the house, taking care of the kids, and all that 1950s bullshit. You stared at him, mouth agape, not knowing how to respond.
When he was done with his tirade, he excused himself to go to the bathroom. You waited a few seconds before jumping out of your chair and sprinting out of the coffee shop at a speed that shouldâve qualified you for the Olympics. You didnât stop walking until you reached the park down the street and sat down on the empty bench to catch your breath. You looked at your surroundings and grimaced.
Couples.
Everywhere.
A couple having a picnic on the grass. A couple kissing sweetly on the bench across from you. An elderly couple taking a midday stroll. There was even a pair of kids hugging while their parents cooed at them. Itâs like the universe was playing some cruel prank on you.
Did Cupid enjoy watching your love life crash and burn? Did he take some sick enjoyment out of hitting you with one of his arrows and shoving you in the direction of another failed love interest?
What was so great about love anyways? It canât possibly be as good as all the movies and songs made it out to be. Surely, everyone had to be lying or delusional.
And yetâŠ
You wondered what love was like.
The kind of love that kept you smiling all day, that made you see the beauty in the world. The type that swept you off your feet and made you feel like floating through the clouds. The type that completed you.
This is why you kept going on these dates, giving that little cherub second chances in case he finally takes mercy on you and gives you the right man.
Because someone had to be out there for you. Right?
You groaned and slid down the bench enough for you to lean your head on the back of the bench. Watching the clouds float across the sky, you wished the overwhelming loneliness in your chest could float away just as easily. Tears pricked your eyes and you tried desperately not to let them fall. You would not cry here, not in public. You can save the crying for your room like you usually did. Â
Despite your best efforts, tears still trickled down your cheeks. You huffed in frustration. You are pathetic.
All of a sudden a sharp pain shot from your head. Your eyes shot open and you sat up. With crossed eyes, you could make out a blurry form of a stick. You gripped the stick and realized that it was literally stuck to your head by suction. You dug your nails into the sides of the rubber to release it. Rubbing your forehead, you finally got a closer look at the toy arrow that hit you.
What. the. hell.
You glanced around the park, looking for who couldâve hit you. Turning around until you faced the open field behind you where you saw two people: a short, curly-haired kid and a tall, long-haired man.
The latter was holding a toy bow looking incredibly guilty.
You blinked at each other for a couple of seconds, in shock about what happened. The boy nudged him and he came stumbling forward. You stood up as well and wiped your tears away. God, you hoped you didnât have a giant red circle on your face.
The ten-foot distance between the two of you felt bigger than it was. The awkwardness alone almost made you turn around but you pushed through. Once you were close enough, you stopped and took him in.
Everything about him screamed âdangerâ. He wore a black shirt that said âCoroded Coffinâ and dark jeans with a chain hanging from his belt. You wondered how he wasnât sweating under the sun.
Black polish chipped off his nails and a collection of chunky rings adorned his fingers. Trailing your eyes up, you saw the patches of dark ink etched into his skin. He was all hard features and sharp edges that had you slightly antsy but when you finally met his eyes, that feeling flew out the window.
He had these big baby browns that softened his entire look. His long hair was wild and framed his face. The combination made him look slightly like a puppy. He had full, pink lips that opened and closed slightly as if he was trying to find the right words to say.
Stop ogling him. He shot a projectile at you.
You cleared your throat, deciding to break the silence. âI assume this is yours?â You held the arrow out to him.
He seemed to snap out of his trance and took the arrow from your hand gently. âYeah! Iâm really, really sorry. I swear I wasnât aiming for -â He stopped mid-sentence and you saw his eyes flicker with worry. âAre you okay?â
âOh yeah, Iâm fine. It didnât hurt that much.â You waved a hand over your forehead, dismissively.
âNo, not that but I am glad to hear I didnât hurt you.â He smiled lightly but as fast as it came, a frown settled in its place. âYou were, uh⊠were you crying?â
Taken aback, you furrowed your brows at him. How he couldâve known? âUhâŠâ
âSorry! Thatâs weird. Itâs really not my place. Itâs just⊠your eyes are red but you donât have to tell me if you donât want to.â He rambled and held his hands up to show he meant no harm. You couldnât remember the last time someone had actually paid attention to you like this. Â
âIâm okay.â He nodded but, ultimately, didnât look convinced. You sighed. âI just had a bad date.â
âHe didnât hurt you did he? We can track him down. Iâve got a weapon.â He held up the plastic bow.
You giggled and that made him relax just a tad. His shoulders dropped and the wrinkle between his brows smoothed over. âHe didnât, donât worry. No need to wield a deadly weapon on him.â
âYet.â He narrowed his eyes at you but had a playful smirk.
âYet.â You copied his expression. The tension had disappeared and lighthearted laughter took its place.
âIâm Eddie, by the way.â He introduced himself.
Eddie. It suited him, you thought.
You gave him your name. A charming smile tugged on his lips and you felt your cheeks heat up. âPretty.â Eddie said under his breath.
Your cheeks flushed even more.
âEddie, did you get the arrow?â A voice called from behind Eddie. You peered over his shoulder and saw the younger boy. Only now did you notice that he was decked out in a full medieval costume, his curly hair peeking over the edge of his pointy hat.
âYeah, dude.â Eddie held up the arrow.
âThen come on! You gotta help me with my shield.â The boy whined which made you chuckle slightly. Eddie looked back at you and smiled.
âIn a sec, man!â He yelled back but kept his eyes on you. A childish groan came from behind Eddie which had him rolling his eyes playfully. âSorry about that.â
âYour brother?â You asked.
âDustin?â Eddie asked, surprise clear in his voice. âYeah, he is.â A fond smile spread across his face. You could see the resemblance in their unruly curls.
âSo, whatâs with the outfit?â Peering over Eddieâs shoulder, you could see Dustin practicing with the shield, swinging it at invisible monsters.
âHeâs testing out his costume for the Faire.â He said, casually.
âThe Faire?â
âThe Renaissance Faire?â Eddieâs brow lifted. You shook your head, not understanding. âItâs like an amusement park for history buffs. People dress up, eat, drink, roleplay. Itâs great.â He explained.
âHave you been before?â You wanted to hear more, both equally fascinated by the concept and Eddieâs voice. Â
âYeah, a couple of times. Itâs the little guyâs first time and he wants to go all out. He said he wanted to try his costume out in the correct environment. Heâs a bit of a nerd like that and thatâs saying something coming from me. King of the nerds, right here.â Eddie held his arms out as if presenting himself and bowed low. You smiled at him.
You havenât stopped smiling since he made you laugh the first time. âItâs sweet that you spend time with him like that.â
âItâs nothing, really. Heâs a special kid.â He scratched the back of his head. You tried not to notice the slight flex in his muscles.
âIâm sure heâll have a great time.â You said, managing to pull your eyes away from his arms.
âYou know.â Eddie started, looking a bit timid. âIâve got an extra ticket. You could come with us if you want. Itâs this weekend in Indianapolis.â
âOh, I donât want to impose.â
âYou wouldnât be.â Eddie stepped a quarter of an inch closer to you. The proximity made you the slightest bit dizzy. âMaybe youâd have some fun. Forget about the asshole who made you cry.â
âThe asshole?â Your eyebrow quirked up.
âEvery man who makes a woman cry is an asshole and should be jailed.â He said with the most serious expression that you knew he wasnât joking around.
âMy, what a gentleman.â You found yourself inching closer to him too.
âMy uncle taught me well.â Eddie puffed his chest out proudly. âSo what do you say?â
âThe Faire does sound really fun.â You paused. âBut I think you should spend time with your brother. Since itâs his first time and everything.â âOh, y-yeah. Youâre right.â Eddieâs cheeks were turning red. He started to move back when you spoke again.
âBut⊠maybe you could tell me all about it after? Over coffee?â You offered, biting your lip shyly.
Eddie froze then his face lit up like a Christmas tree. âReally?â You nodded, just as excited. âFuck yeah! Iâd love to.â
âI should⊠uh, give you my number. So you can call me?â That initial bout of confidence was fading away. The intensity of Eddieâs gaze made your knees weak.
âThat seems like a good plan.â He nodded.
You pulled your pen out of your bag and dug around for a piece of paper but you couldnât find anything. Pausing to think, your eyes drifted to the spattering of tattoos on Eddieâs arm. âMay I?â You pointed at the back of his hand.
âGo ahead.â He gave you his hand. âIâm not afraid of some ink.â
You let his hand rest on your palm while your other hand scribbled your number on his skin. You had to write slower than usual to make sure the ink stuck. His eyes were burning holes in the side of your face. You spared a glance up at him and the corner of his lips twitched up when you met his gaze.
Ducking your chin, you tried to finish writing but your pen stopped working on the last number. Your lips pouted, petulantly. Eddie mustâve noticed since his thumb rubbed against the skin of your wrist, comfortingly. If you were a cartoon character, you were sure there would be a comical amount of steam coming off you right now with how hot your body felt.
A couple of taps against your thigh and the ink started flowing again. After the last stroke on the final number, you added a small heart beside it.
âBeautiful.â Eddie said. He still hadnât taken his eyes off of you nor did he let go of your hand. âI should have you design my next tattoo.â
âOh yeah, âcause my little hearts will definitely look good with that.â You poked the bats on his forearm. Â
âDamn right, it will. Hearts are metal.â
Before you could continue your banter, Dustinâs voice cut through the air. âEdward Munson, stop flirting and help me!â He had his hands on his hips and looked extremely cross with his brother. You let go of Eddieâs hand in embarrassment. Â
âIâm coming!â Eddieâs cheeks were red but his eyes were full of amusement. âAs much as Iâd love to stay, it looks like I gotta go.â
âI figured.â You were actually sad that your time with him was up. âYou two have fun this weekend.â
âThanks. Donât go on any more dates with assholes, okay.â Eddie still had that playful grin but you heard the slightest hint of unease in his voice.
âI wonât.â You assured him.
You said your goodbyes and walked away. Every couple of steps, you looked back at Eddie. You felt like a teenager again, willing for her crush to look at her in class. You took one last look at Eddie and, as fate would have it, he was turning to look at you too. Both your eyes went wide, a similar situation to your meeting just a couple of minutes ago.
The two of you laughed and Eddie drove the toy arrow into his chest dramatically. He threw his body back on the ground and rolled in the grass. When he got up, he had a smidge of dirt on his cheek but that smile never dimmed. Youâd be thinking about that smile all day.
That very night your phone rang.
âI hope you donât mind.â Eddie said over the receiver. âI couldnât stop thinking about you.â
You twirled the phone cord around your finger. âNeither could I.â Â
This is your last chance, Cupid. You thought. Please let him be the one.

Pick a pile
July 2024 Predictions
⥠Take your time to choose.
âź â ËïœĄđŠč âïœĄÂ°â©
Pile I
What do I need to know about the month of July?
Pile number 1, The month of July will be a time when you will be very focused on your work or a project you started and will finish during this month. You will learn more about working in a group and will also be making new friends.
You will be tested in dealing with your emotions and ambitions, as not everything you want will come when you desire. So, you will learn to wait and not make hasty decisions about various situations that may be related to work or personal life, but it will be a test of your patience.
How will my love life be this month?
"Dancing Queen" by ABBA started playing in my head when I asked about your love life in July. You might be going through a rejection or a relationship that didn't work out. Or you may still be hurt by what happened in the past after a breakup.
But I have good news: when you manage to move on and understand that you have many opportunities and possibilities to find love again, your life will work out. I see you happy, I see this song playing in the places you go. Pain and loneliness may be part of the process, but they cannot last too long. So, you will get through this and will be able to move on because I see that there are people and stories to be written about love in your life again.
What is the best path to financial success this month?
The best path to financial success is to have patience. I see that this pile is for people who sometimes don't handle frustration very well, and this could be a test so that better things can come and things can get right in your life.
Maybe you have gone through a difficult situation financially or in your career, something that hurt you, but the cards here ask that you do not lose hope, do not lose your dreams and ambitionsâthey are still there.
Perhaps you have lost people you were working with for a long time, and they are now distant or have been laid off. But I want you to understand that things will improve. I see that it is an acceptable pain, but you have to let go for new things to come, new opportunities are on the way.
What health precautions should I take this month?
You need to exercise more and take care of your entire body. You should go for walks, runs, and also drink more water. Eat healthy foods such as fruits like melon and banana. Improve your diet to enhance your health.
What spiritual or practical advice can I follow to grow during this period?
What I see here spiritually is that you should leave where you are and explore the world, getting to know new places and learn every day to balance your emotions and your logic without letting one outweigh the other.
âČ â
Ą âł
Pile II
What do I need to know about the month of July?
In pile number 2, July will be about this: You'll be speaking more, I mean saying exactly what you want to say. You'll work a lot on your throat chakra, and you'll manage to express what bothers you, what you want to change, and your feelings about a certain situation. So, the situation will be resolved.
Right now it might seem pending in your head, but it will be resolved, and you'll see that the effort you're putting into any situation will be very worthwhile, you'll mature and learn a lot during this month of July.
What will my love life be like this month?
Maybe some people won't identify with the romantic situation in pile 2 during July. But I see something ending here, I see ego clashes, I see narcissism being exposed, and I see that neither side is winning this battle; both are losing, and these two people will go their separate ways.
Perhaps this applies to a relationship that is already heading towards wear and tear or not. But I see that other people are also involved in this relationship's turbulence. I'm not sure of their exact role, maybe friends or relatives, but I think these people are there, and I see that with a broken heart for some reason that I can't identify, you'll prefer to be alone.
You'll want solitude, you won't want to seek out someone at this moment; it's not your focus, it's not what you want.
What is the best path to financial success this month?
I see that you have a very relevant position in your job. I see that during July, you'll be able to work well, balancing your tasks and projects; you'll be able to profit a lot from it. Maybe you have your own investment, so I see that you'll be working with other people, and you'll be able to achieve your goals. It might take a while in terms of waiting for results, but I see these results coming, and you and the people you trust in your work environment will achieve something very positive. I see celebration, I see you reclaiming your power.
What health precautions should I take this month?
I get a message to take care of your back. Maybe you have scoliosis or need more comfortable and adaptable beds for your back situation, so I see that you need to pay more attention to this area of your body.
What spiritual or practical advice can I follow to grow during this period?
Continue to empower yourself, be the woman you want to be and that you inspire. Be open to new relationships; there are people genuinely interested in you. Be open to meetings and going out with new people.
And it's okay to rest from time to time.
âČ â
Ą âł
Pile III
What do I need to know about the month of July?
During the month of July, it will be emphasized that you need to have fun and be yourself 100%. This will manifest in various ways in your life.
How will my love life be this month?
In July, you will be increasingly open to meeting new people. I see many romantic interests and relationships you might have with some people. You will be stepping out of your comfort zone and available to meet different people. One could be someone your age or younger, and another could be someone more responsible, with serious intentions of having a serious relationship with you.
What is the best path to financial success this month?
Pile 3 If you are looking for a job, I have to inform you that this opportunity will arrive during the month of July. I see you getting this job quite quickly, on a day you least expect it, and you will be very happy with this opportunity.
If you are already employed, I have to inform you that both your career and your finances will bring positive news. You will stand out more at work. You will get more attention for your projects, and I see many of the things you are planning being realized.
What precautions should I take with my health this month?
Maybe you have many insecurities regarding your appearance, or perhaps you have many fast thoughts and need to seek therapeutic help from a psychologist to work on this. I see that you might type a lot, maybe work with typing, and have many tasks to do. The tarot is asking you to pay attention to these areas, both mental and some physical, related to your daily life.
What spiritual or practical advice can I follow to grow during this period?
You should have fun. Pay attention to your emotions and mental health. If you feel it is affecting you, seek help to better work through some memories from the past.

Ą âł
Pile IV
What do I need to know about the month of July?
The month of July will reveal much about your relationships, whether romantic, friendships, or professional connections, and how you handle them with strength.
How will my love life be this month?
If you intend to have a serious relationship with someone, it is likely to happen. I see that you think seriously about dating someone before deciding on a date, especially if the person is younger or appears very mature. Moving forward in this manner might lead you to someone quite different. This person could be your ideal partner, and it seems like you both will be completely in love. I see this as a lasting and happy relationship where this person will help you grow and mature together.
What is the best path to financial success this month?
In July, you will be surrounded by others in your career or while managing your finances. You have a sweet and emotional disposition, which can be positive for your career, but sometimes you need to be firm and speak more sternly to be heard. Your efforts will be rewarded in the end, although you might be distancing yourself from a colleague due to something they said that hurt you. However, this won't be a major issue in your career this month.
What health precautions should I take this month?
If you exercise and take care of your health, this will bring positive results in July. Continuing with your health routines will significantly improve your well-being. Overall, the advice is more about maintaining your current practices rather than making major changes, except perhaps moderating your alcohol intake. The outlook is generally positive.
What spiritual or practical advice should I follow to grow during this period?
You should assert yourself more. You may take a trip soon, and you will eventually have the family you dream of with your loved one. However, be cautious of people around you, especially at work, who may have bad intentions. They might withhold important information or propose partnerships that could result in financial losses. Pay attention to a male figure around you.
âŻ
We made it to the end! Thanks for joining in on this tarot reading for July. Here's hoping it's all good vibes and we tackle any hurdles stress-free.đâșïžđ

Apple Pie and You and I
A little story of the Seresins aka Hangman being a softie for his girl. Fluff, no warnings, please enjoy!
Jake Seresin, a lone star state boy through and though, always found himself feeling closer to home with a warm apple pie and a country song playing with a gentle thrum on his Popâs old record player in the room next door.
The only time he felt closer to a sense of home was with you - his lovely lady who had managed to lure and capture the Hangman hook line and sinker by batting her pretty lashes and making him work hard for her attention. It had taken him 3 weeks of smirks that turned to smiles, and insistence that turned into nothing shy of begging, for you to agree to a date. The only holding back heâd done was in omitting to state the thought that had urged him to act in the first place; âOh, she's gonna be my wife someday.â
The typically cocksure brazen pilot hadnât the need to utter those words for another 14 months, past the utterly exclusive dating period, nor in between months of loved up sweetness and the pained inevitability of month-long deployments. Heâd told you the very moment after his 1 month deployment - which had extended into 7 and a half weeks - of a monogamous routine, where a few pictures and fond memories were just not cutting it any more.
The tarmac had scratched the khaki material of his bags as he'd dropped them with a heavy thud to the ground, only eager to reach your arms sooner. Your little sundress catching in the soft wind, the warmth of the sun heating your cheeks and nose as he engulfs you in his arms, holding tight before he'd pulled his head away to take a proper long look at your pretty face - and then brought your lips to his. He'd kissed you over and over and over, the smile on his face growing every time, your eyes clear and watering, having waited for this moment.
And quietly, once the decision was made to catch your breaths, he'd whispered, lips ghosting over yours, that you were it for him. That he was going to marry you.
According to the Navy, Hangman had no one at home, no next of kin unless you provided the contacts of his parents down in their ranch a few states away should there ever be the need for the passing over of belongings and dog tags to fatefully occur. But Jake Seresin? He had a whole life to get back to; one he needed to kick start with a ring and a question.
The ring itself would be an heirloom, no doubt about it, and had required a trip back to Texas to see his family and share with them his upcoming plans. Having met you a handful of times over Christmas and on big family birthdays, the Seresins were entirely on board. Jake's Momma had given him a close hug with tears in her eyes while his Dad and siblings cheered and grinned the classic Seresin smile. Their family often grew each year, but his Momma and Grammie had worried that their headstrong, flirtatious boy would get too caught up in the ways of the world to settle down. He was a softie at heart, and you had been the best thing to ever happen to him.
They adored you. Enough for Grammie to take her grandson into her study, and open the jewellery box safely nestled inside a locked cupboard door. "This one is a diamond", she'd said as she'd taken out a piece." It's been in the family since before I was born. It's even got the family name engraved inside." Jake had taken it, listening respectfully to his Grammie but still lost in the thought of how the ring would look so beautiful on your finger. Thinking of you being his, forever.
That had been 18 months ago now, and the glinting stone on your ring finger, alongside a shiny golden wedding band, showing that all had gone to plan. Hangman proudly wears his ring too, occasionally looping it around his dog tags if need be. However currently, in the Lone Star state, the dog tags are off and his ring fits snugly on his fourth finger as he holds you close.
It's campfire night at the ranch, and you sit on his lap, curled in and admiring the way his face has caught the sun, inspecting every detail of him in the glow of the fire he had helped to start. He looks between his family; uncles, cousins, grandparents, now and then but his main focus is always you. Your hands clasp his left one as he uses the other to nurse a beer after working up a sweat teaching his youngest nephews to play football earlier that day. It had been so endearing to watch as you'd prepared the barbecue and baked fresh cookies using the special Seresin recipe, with his Momma and sisters.
"I got the recipe from your Mom, for the cookies, so we can have them at home." You'd whispered sweetly as the chatter around the fire continued. "Do you know", Jake murmured, looking deep into your eyes as his green ones pierced into your soul. "Do you know how much I love you?"
Your giggle had been soft and the eye roll that followed made Jake smirk lovingly. Still in awe of how he got the girl that barely spoke to him but was still batting her lashes and playing hard to get. He brings your hand to his lips, kissing the point just above where your rings lay on your finger.
"The kids'll love 'em. You're gonna be a great Mom." He stops smirking and now looks at you, fully focused with a soft, genuine smile. Placing the beer down, he rests his hand on your stomach, underneath the sweatshirt of his you've borrowed that splashes the words University of Texas, Austin on the front. It's old and thinning out but it smells of Jake, so it's something you will happily bask in and nap in and snuggle in until you have to leave his family home once more.
"Shhhh. I already think Grammie knows", you scold him. And she does. Grammie knows and as his Momma watches the two of you interact now, she's certain that she knows too. Call it a Mother's instinct. Jake's little check-ins throughout the day had not gone unnoticed, nor had your daily naps that you blamed on the heat, despite it only being the middle of May.
"But Grammie knows everything, a few more days and I can finally tell 'em all. Been dyin' to sweetheart." His hand rubs your stomach gently, not to raise suspicion but also to comfort you. Sure, as the cookies and apple pie were brought out, he had felt a little nostalgia, but with you in his lap wearing his ring, and his baby in your belly, Jake Seresin had never felt more at home than in that moment.

Itâs barely hit 9pm when Eddie muffles a yawn against Steveâs shoulder and murmurs, âSteve.â
âYeah?â
âMy eyes keep closing.â
Steve smiles. Traces a soothing, circular path along Eddieâs scalp. âThatâs okay.â
âNo.â
âNo?â
âDonât wannaâŠâ Eddie trails off for a moment; Steve feels his body relaxing further, slumping against him. âDonât wanna miss it.â
Steve raises an eyebrow. The Golden Girls is playing in the background. âUh, I mean. I could tape it?â
âNo,â Eddie repeats, and his hand clumsily pats Steveâs cheek. âDonât wanna miss it.â
Steve presses his lips to the warmth of Eddieâs palm. âAh,â he says, gently teasing, ââcause saying the same thing twice definitely makes sense.â
Eddie tsks. He prods with one finger at Steveâs jaw.
âOw,â Steve laughs.
It doesnât hurt at all.
âTalkinâ âbout you,â Eddie says, âSteve Harrington.â
And thereâs the way he says Steveâs name, all rounded, like heâs savouring each syllable.
âThereâs so much⊠so much goinâ on in there,â Eddie continues. Tap, tap, taps across Steveâs face. âYouâdâŠâ A sleepy huff of laughter. âYouâd be a terrible spy.â
âThanks,â Steve says dryly.
âSteeeve,â Eddie says, lilting into a song of his own creation. âSteve, Steve, Steve. Sâa compliment.â
âYeah, youâre a regular charmer.â
âI meanââ Eddie yawns again. âMean it. Yâknow, in⊠in school. Even if your⊠words were⊠your eyes, they⊠theyâd always say sâactly what you were thinkinâ.â
âIn school?â Steve says. You noticed me? âLike when?â
Itâs a blatant prompt, a wish for something more, but he canât help it. Eddie smiles indulgently.
âJusâ bâfore you graduated. First period. Asked you for a pen. Your mouth said sure anâ your eyes said forgetful prick.â
Steve laughs. âFuck off, no they didnât.â
He can feel Eddieâs giggles reverberating through him.
âOnly kidding.â Eddie mimes like Robin does, indicating a tiny amount with his thumb and forefinger. âHalf kidding.â
âUh-huh.â
Eddie tilts his head from where it rests on Steveâs shoulder, eyes blinking languidly, as if heâs suddenly really putting the effort in to keep them open. As if this is something important.
âYâknow, in school I always tried to⊠notice things. People. Like, who ate lunch alone, or⊠Didnât want anyone to, uh. Slip through the cracks.â Eddie sighs, a little melancholy. âStill missed stuff, though.â
Steve runs a hand through his hair. âYouâre only human.â
You were trying. You cared. Thatâs enough.
Eddie gives a bittersweet hum. âKnew I missed stuff with you,â he says. âMakes sense now, but back then⊠Could never figure it out. Jusâ knew you were suddenly, like⊠at the end of a book or something, anâ Iâd barely started the first page. And youâd⊠youâd look soâŠâ Another sigh. âNot⊠not quite sad, but⊠like you knew something. Something you couldnât⊠walk away from.â Steveâs nose suddenly stings.
âSâwhy I donât wanna miss it,â Eddie says. âDonât wanna waste a second.â He smiles again, eyelids heavy. âThereâs whole stories in your eyes, Steve Harrington.â
For a moment, Steve canât speak for the enormity of it: the fact that heâs just heard probably the most romantic thing in the world, and itâs about him.
For a moment, it makes him brave.
âYouâre not gonna miss anything if you dream about me.â
Eddie laughs. âWow,â he says, drawn out, and the end of it turns into a yawn, then a drowsy sigh. His eyelids droop⊠flicker⊠close. âPresumptuous and corny.â
But Steve can hear the fondness in itâlike maybe Eddie thinks heâs heard the most romantic thing, too.
âYeah,â he agrees. Then, softer, âCanât help what you turn me into.â
âHmm?â Eddie mumbles, like heâs trying his best, but the thread of the conversation is still running away from him, getting lost to his dreams.
âShh,â Steve says. He shifts until heâs lying on his back, gently guides Eddie down with him. âGânight.â
He feels Eddie breathing against his shoulder.
âNight,â Eddie whispers. âNight, night, nightâŠâ
Steve smiles; Eddie repeats stuff when heâs drifting off, has even had whole circular conversations with Dustin about whatever movie they happen to be watching.
âGânight,â Steve says again, and he almost says something more. Doesnâtâbecause Eddieâs breaths are truly heavy with sleep now.
Maybe he could already read it in Steveâs eyes. Maybe, just maybe, heâll dream about it until Steve can say it for real.

Hihihi I just wanted to ask how world tour work and if their stressful :33
Oooo ok this is a good one!
TOURS
So tours are usually planned a few months in advance, some companies will do a year or 2 in advance but it depends on like the success of your groups and how big your fanbase is. The planning is done by your staff, managers, etc.
Touring can be so much fun honestly because you get to go to so many beautiful places and see so many cool stuff, my favorite part is getting to show my members around my home country and the places Iâve grown up. Itâs also fun to introduce them to my family, have them try our foods and so much more things. Not all companies however have all countries in mind itâs usually just the ones they think are popular or care about but I script our tour stops usually so I donât really run into this problem like I did when I was a baby shifter.
Usually your company will let you guys pick your set list, but they also will do a lot of them based on popularity of the songs. Like usually you will preform all title tracks that you have released since those are most popular but you and your members will also be able to pick the bsides and other songs for set lists. If youâre planning on having a solo stage then a lot of planning and practice goes into this before tour, and during sound check every set will be run through in order to avoid any mistakes.
All this aside, touring can also be very tiring. Especially if you are having a comeback near the end or middle because then dates become more closer and immediate/less spaced out?? (If that makes senseđ) in order for you guys to have time to go back to Korea for the comeback, if you have schedules then you will have your show and depending on when the schedule is you will usually be flown immediately to wherever said schedules is. (By schedules I mean events for brands and other shit like that). Some companies will give maybe a week or 2?? Cool down period before going to the next leg of the tour (like Asia, North America, South America, etc.) Some groups like twice for example does a complete different performance for each place they are going to so this means twice is practicing more than usual. Overall the most tiring part was traveling around often, going to the airport early in the morning, and very late practices.
For my personal experience for every tour I went on, we would sleep at hotels with the members sometimes it would be solo rooms or roommates (it would be really fun with roommates ngl), Concert outfits were entirely chosen by stylists but for solo stages we usually get a say in what we get to choose. My favorite moment of the concert was realizing that I was finally there. Everything just came to me naturally , all the training, practices, everything paid off to this very moment. It can still be stressful and pressuring but also very fun! But this was all my experiences so it might not be the same as yours.
Things I recommend you script: Tour edition
- you go to more places for tours (if shifting to a group where they donât go many places)
- you always have the best outfits
- your solo stage!! Trust me this part is so fun fr
- no one ever has a wardrobe malfunction on stage
- there are never any technical difficulties (mics not working, sound issues, etc.)

Dear Liam,
never in a million years did I think this was how it was going to end, but here I am saying goodbye.
I must admit that when I saw Zayn's name on the shared statement, it affected me in ways that I wasn't expecting. This whole situation has affected me in ways that I wasn't expecting.
One Direction entered my life when I was 12 years old. You were five ordinary boys, with a great voice, but not so good dancing skills, that sang their way into my heart. It was so admirable, even when you were performing for 65,000 people, to watch you sing around the world while being your goofy, gentle, true selves. It felt like you were having the time of your lives.
Looking back on it, I can't stop wondering if it was too much. I can't stop thinking that maybe I would rather never have known about the existence of One Direction than be going through this now.
I was sad when Zayn left and I was wretched when the band went on hiatus, but deep down, there was still hope. Now I am devastated and heartbroken, and I only knew a small part of you.
One Direction will never be the same without you, I hope you were aware.
I never had the chance to watch you perform live, although all the youtube videos and documentaries made me feel like I had. When the time comes, instead of singing with you, we will sing for you.
I listened to 1D songs, and also all your solo albums, during various periods of my life. Somehow, they always said what I needed to hear. It wasn't just a phase. It cheered me up during some of the hardest moments of my life and it made me company during some of the best. Every time I was anxious or afraid, I would sing a song from my favourite artists to calm myself down. I listened to your songs on my way to school, during a long car drive, on my way to college, while I did house chores, it was the soundtrack while I wrote my master thesis and it accompanied me on my first day to work.
Right now, they are helping me grieve. And it won't stop here. I will have the time of my life dancing to some of them on my wedding day, I will sing them to my children and have dance parties with my grandchildren. It's forever.
I am truly sorry that this is how things ended. I am sorry we couldn't save you. It is so unfair. I know that if you were given the chance, you would have done things differently. You deserved all the good things in the world. You deserved so much more.
I can't even imagine what your loved ones, your family, your friends and the boys are going through right now. I hope that, one day, your son will smile when he thinks about his father, knowing that he touched so many hearts and saved so many lives. That he was talented, enough and loved just by the way he was.
This is not how it was supposed to go, but thank you for bringing the guys together one last time. Thank you for bringing us together. It has been healing to see that so many people loved you and cared about you.
Thank you for the songs. Thank you for my teenage years. Thank you for the smiles. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your laugh. Thank you for your words. Thank you for the love. Thank you.
"I want to write you a song, One to make your heart remember me, So any time I'm gone, You can listen to my voice and sing along."
I promise to remember you.
Always and forever.

Thinking about best friend, biker!Bakugou, who always goes for you to pick you up in his big ass bike; no matter where, no matter when, he's outside waiting for you sitting in his bike with his arms crossed over his chest, a permanent scowl on his face for whoever looks disapprovingly at him because of his bad boy appearance. Piercing in the right side of his bottom lip, piercings in his ears, black leather jacket, black ripped jeans. You need him to pick you up from work? He's there. You had to stay late doing extra hours? No matter what time it is, he's there waiting for you to take you home. You need to go buy ladies stuff to the farmacy? He's there ready to take you, and then bring you back. You woke up at 3 am and want a snack? He'll call you an annoying pain in his ass when you phone him, but he tells you he'll be there in ten minutes.
One day, he picks you up at work because you have talked about going to see the fireworks show that was going to take place due to some celebration. He takes you to a place closer to where the whole show will be, people already around waiting. You sit on the grass next to each other as you keep talking about the events of your day. He mmhs and ahhs and pffs and tsks to everything you say, smiling and frowning when it needs to.
The show is about to start, and he sees your discomfort. He knows that even though you love the colorful lights, you hate the sounds of explosion; he knows it's a small trigger for your anxiety, so he takes out he's special airpods that he uses when he's riding his bike for longer periods of time and the loud engine actually annoys the hell out of his ears and they cancel every sound from the outworld but the music in them. He doesn't say anything as he gives them to you and you smile thankful at him while putting them on.
The show finally starts, you don't hear anything but the chill song 'Apocalypse' by Cigarettes After Sex as the spectacular shining in the sky illuminates above you.
Bakugou, even half way through the show, can't take his eyes out of you. Your face enjoying it it's even brighter than the lights. Your smile it's the biggest he has ever seen, and he has known you since you dropped a weight next to him by accident at the gym three years agoâyou became instant friends since then. He has seen you at your best and at your worst, and vice-versa. But he has never seen such⊠beauty in your whole demeanor before as he does in that moment. Content. Fascinated. Relaxed. Happy. And your eyes⊠he can practically see the show reflecting on them, and he thinks it looks much better that way.
That's when he realizes. How relaxed he also is next to you, how he enjoys much more your reactions than the show itself, how the pit of his stomach flutters when you suddenly wooow to a big bright explosion that almost whiteness the whole sky. He realizes how much he wants to hold your hand, to kiss your cheek for how cute you look at that moment. To actually kiss your lips to discover if your taste is as cute and sweet as you look right now. To hold you in his arms to protect you from the world, because it doesn't deserve a person like you walking on it. You're precious.
The show ends, and the shine still glows in your eyes when you look at him, smiling big as you give him back his airpods, talking how amazing the show was and how cool and pretty all the lights were. You're pretty.
And as he can't take his eyes out of you while you speak, he realizes then.
"I'm falling in love with you." He blurts, and he has never said anything as sure as that.
You immediately shut up, completely taken aback. "W-what?"
His vermillion eyes don't leave yours, and he repeats, "I'm falling in love with you. Hard."
You don't know what to say. He can see the surprise and confusion in your face, but if there is something Katsuki isn't, it is a man that backs aways from his own actions or words. But he understands that probably this is too much now, yet he needs you to know.
"I'm not saying this for you to do something about it. I just want you to know it. Because from now on, I'll be whatever you need me to be. A friend, a lover, your driver, your fucking servant if you need me to. But I won't back away from trying to make you like me back. It's on. I'll convince you to let me be yours and you be mine."
Your eyes fill with tears, emotional tears that don't mean something bad but either something good and you don't know what to say, what to answer. But you do realize somethingâŠ
He's always there. And he will always be. The butterflies in your stomach wake up and start fluttering around.

Josephine - Luke Hughes
A/N: This is the longest thing I have ever written. Like actually. I heard the song Josephine by Pony Bradshaw and my brain was begging me to do something creative with it, so I wrote this. But I'm on my period so it turned very sad and angsty quickly. So now you all get to suffer along with me! With that said please please read the warnings and if at any point you feel uncomfortable click away.
Word Count: 3.7k đł
Warnings: Grief and angst with no real happy ending or comfort. Cursing, crying, mentions of blood and pain. A half second on 18+ content but no explicit details.
(Portions in italics are flash backs. Enjoy, lovelies. đ«¶)
Luke Hughes sat sprawled in one of the cushioned armchairs spaced across the rooftop bar the New Jersey Devils currently resided on. His view of the New York skyline was fuzzy, but he wasnât sure if it was because of the beer in his left hand or the smoke from the joint in his right. The one thing he was sure of was that he didnât want to be here, and he damn sure didnât want to be sober. Luke could feel the pitying looks from his brother and captain all the way across the bar, but at least they hadnât made any comments tonight.Â
The team had won the game earlier in the day by a large margin and Luke wasnât beating himself up over minuscule mistakes like he used to. No, that wasnât the issue. In fact, Luke was playing some of the best hockey he had in years. His on-ice performance was probably the only reason he was even still on the team, considering that he had been skipping most morning skates and all public appearances for the past few weeks.Â
He had seen the therapist the team provided and taken the weeks off that the trainers had suggested, so he isnât sure why they insist on continually doing mental checkups on him. It was irritating. Especially when he didnât give them the answers they wanted, so they sent Jack to pester him instead. All it did was remind him of you.Â
âLuke.âÂ
His head snapped towards where you sat in the passenger seat of his car, eyes shining and a soft smile on your lips.Â
âThe light has been green for like 30 seconds, babe. Whatâs going on in that pretty head, hm?âÂ
Luke always swore that your sweet voice could melt 20 feet of snow in the dead of winter. It was like coming home from a long day to a warm house. It was one of his favorite things about you. So, because he knew youâd ask the question again, he simply shrugged his shoulders in response. He fully planned to keep his troubles to himself in an attempt not to worry you, but then your manicured hand was running through the curls at the nape of his neck.
âTell me about it, Lu. Whatâs wrong?âÂ
With your use of the nickname, he was gone. Suddenly all the worldâs problems were spilling from his lips, and he couldnât stop them even if he wanted to. You tended to have that effect on people. You were just so damn easy to talk to. And the best part? You almost always knew how to make it better. A quick kiss and a Band-Aid, and Luke was back on his way with a smile.Â
âLuke,â you mumbled, âLukeâŠâÂ
âLuke.âÂ
Jack stood in front of his brother, shaking his shoulder to break him from his trance.Â
âYou okay?â Jack questioned, not missing the shine in Lukeâs eyes as they were torn from the skyline view. He watched as Luke took a deep drag from the joint in his hand, exhaling the smoke as he attempted to clear the lump from his throat.Â
âFine, Jack.âÂ
âBullshit,â Jack couldnât help the scoff he let out, âGet up, weâre going home.âÂ
Luke didnât have it in him to argue. Not that he would have, anyway. He never wanted to leave the house in the first place, especially after the situation Jack got him into the last time they had gone out. 2 months ago, his brother had dragged him to this same rooftop bar insisting that itâd be good for him to get out there again. It took all of 30 minutes before Jack was pushing Luke in the direction of a random girl. âA good fuck will fix you right upâ, Jack had claimed.Â
âLuuuuke,â the girl below him moaned as he kissed down her neck. He didnât know her name, didnât particularly care to either. He was a bit too busy resenting his brother for setting him up with this random girl in the first place.Â
He tried to ignore the hot anger flowing through him, tried to focus on the heavy breathing of the blonde and the way her nails were raking down his back. Lukeâs hands dipped under her shirt, quickly finding her bra and giving it a harsh tug downwards. His fingers fumbled deftly until they gripped her tits, drawing a sharp gasp from the girl.Â
âOh! Lu, please,â she whined. When he didnât respond, she went to pull his face to hers. But Luke had froze, brain short circuiting at the nickname he hadnât heard in over 8 months.Â
His throat was burning. His breath turned ragged as he yanked his hands from beneath her shirt. He stared at her with wild eyes, chest heaving.Â
âGet out,â he ground out. His heart was pounding. What was wrong with him?Â
âAre you okay?â The blond started back at him with a horrified expression, and Luke had to bite his tongue to keep from spitting out any malicious words. The metallic taste of blood filled his mouth as he squeezed his eyes shut.Â
âLeave, please.â He begged, unable to look her in the face.
âLuke, I donât understand,â she tried to reason, âLukeâŠâÂ
âLuke.âÂ
Jack was looking at him expectantly from the driverâs side of his sleek BMW as he navigated the late-night New Jersey traffic. Luke blinked slowly, trying to clear the bitter memory from his foggy mind.Â
âSorry, whatâd you say?â Luke questioned, choosing to ignore the concern blaring in his brotherâs eyes. Jack seemingly decided to let it be, instead jumping back into whatever he originally asked.Â
âI was asking if you thought the stadium series would be a good time to introduce Sydney to mom and dad? I know itâs only been a few months, but I donât know when theyâll be in town again.âÂ
Luke nodded, âAre you just going to do it at dinner? Or the hotel?âÂ
Jack hesitated, clearly contemplating the options before lighting up, âWhat if I brought her to the family skate? Sheâs been wanting to learn anyways! It be just like when you brought jo-â Jack choked on his words, immediately recognizing his mistake. He turned towards his brother, attempting to get a read on his face in the dim light of the passing streetlamps. But Luke had already shut down, face turned to stare blankly out the window.Â
Jack reached over to give a comforting squeezing to Lukeâs left shoulder, âLuke.âÂ
âLUKE!â you squealed as your hands white knuckled his sweatshirt. He giggled at your skating stance before pulling you to his chest.Â
âYou alright there, Bambi?â He smirked down at you as you sent him a glare.Â
âIâm new to this, asshole. Itâs not my fault my teacher is no good,â you threw back at him. It was your turn to smirk as Lukeâs mouth hung open in mock offense.Â
âIâll have you know that Iâve taught hundreds of kids across the state of New Jersey how to properly skate.âÂ
âThose poor kids,â you quickly retorted, sticking your tongue out as he scowled at you. However, that scowl quickly faded into a look of mischief and your face dropped as his arms loosened around you.
âFine. Suit yourself, Bambi.â Luke let you go, giving you the lightest of shoves backwards. Then you were stranded. Forced to watch as your boyfriend skated backwards away from you, leaving you wide eyed and terrified as you froze on the ice. Your fear quickly turned to anger, and Luke marked the shift in your demeanor with a laugh.Â
âLuke Warren Hughes, you come back here and get me right now.âÂ
âNope. Come and get me, baby.â Luke winked at you as he skated past, only serving to further frustrate you. Youâd never admit that his plan was working, but the anger was motivating. You let out a strangled groan before starting to shuffle forward, sliding your skates like Luke taught you. You were doing well for a while, slowly making your way towards where Luke was taunting you from the boards behind the net. That was until two kids flew past you, knocking you off balance and sending you scrambling to regain it.Â
âLuke! Luke, Luke, Luke,â you called, too focused on your slipping feet to notice if your boyfriend was coming to your aid. Then you lost balance completely, tumbling down towards the ice. You closed your eyes as you avoided flinging your arms out to catch yourself, still heeding Lukeâs warnings even as he got you in this mess in the first place. You prepared yourself for the cold hard burn of your backside hitting the ice, but it never came. Instead you landed in a pair of unfamiliar arms, barely recognizing that you werenât on the ground before being hauled to a standing position. You carefully turned around and were met with Jackâs smiling face.Â
âKnight in shining armor, at your service,â Jack grinned, adding a small salute for effect. You rolled your eyes, scanning the ice for Luke.Â
âHow long have you been following behind me?âÂ
âEver since Luke pretended to leave you stranded. He planned the whole thing, I was behind you the entire time to save you from your inevitable demise,â Jack poked you, smile growing impossibly wider at the annoyed look gracing your face.Â
âBig words for someone who never went to college,â you shot at him, needing anything to level the playing field between you. It was then that Luke finally returned, skating to a smooth stop to your left.Â
âWhatâd I miss?âÂ
âYour girlfriend was insulting my intelligence after I graciously saved her precious be-hind,â Jack spoke, adding a bit more than his usual sassiness into the bit. Luke turned to tsk at you.Â
âNow, now baby. We canât make fun of people just because theyâre less fortunate than us. Itâs not Jackyâs fault heâs stupid,â Luke joked, loving the way your eyes lit up when you realized that he was joining your side. Jack, however, stood slack jawed across from you.Â
âNow what the hell, Luke? I went along with your little plan, and this is how you repay me?â You and Luke just blinked at him, silly little grins sitting on your face. âGo to hell, both of you,â Jack scoffed before skating off. Once he was gone, you turned towards your boyfriend. Your pout returned, but it was quickly kissed away.Â
âI promised you Iâd never let you fall, baby. I just never said itâd be me who caught you.âÂ
You scowled, âyouâre such a smart ass.âÂ
âLove you too, Princess,â Luke grinned. You begrudgingly allowed him to pull you into his chest, the warmth he radiated melting the glare right off your face.Â
You turned your head to press a kiss into his jacket-clad chest, right over his heart. A warm smile graced your lips, âI love you, Lukey.âÂ
âLukey!â
John Marino stood before him on the ice, stick poised to do the defensive drill coach had instructed them on.Â
âYouâre out of it today, kid. Are we going to do this drill or not?âÂ
âYeah, my bad. Letâs go,â Luke nodded his head, once again trying to shake the thoughts of you from his mind. He had just barely cleared his vision before the puck was dropped, and John was racing towards him. Practice continued like that, Luke losing focus periodically until one of his teammates pulled him back into the moment.Â
When he trudged into the locker room an hour later, he was more than ready to go home. These were usually the days he would most appreciate having you to come home to. Leaving a hard practice and coming home to fall asleep in your arms was the best feeling. He tried not to think too much about the gaping hole that memory left in his chest as he untied his skates.Â
Once he was dressed in his sweats he rushed from the locker room, hoping to escape the arena before anyone could question his mental wellbeing. Luke made it to the car without any hounding from the guys or trainers, but he had to wait for what felt like an eternity before Jack finally made his way into the parking garage.Â
âWhat the hell took you so long?â Luke questioned, hopping into the passenger seat as Jack unlocked the car doors.Â
âCoach wanted to talk to me for a second. You couldâve gotten the keys from my bag, yknow.â
âYeah, but then I wouldâve been tempted to leave you here,â Luke smirked at his brother.Â
Jack only rolled his eyes, all too familiar with Lukeâs teasing. His mind swirled with the reminders his coach had left him with after their brief post-practice discussion. Coach was getting extremely concerned about Luke and the lack of focus he displayed at practice and games. Jack was also concerned, and so was most of the team. He knew he should bring it up, but the joy in Lukeâs eyes was so rare these days that Jack couldnât bring himself to disturb it. He just wanted to support his brother the best he could, but Luke wouldnât open up to him. Or anyone, for that matter. Not his mom, not Quinn, not even his old teammates from Michigan. Luke wouldnât talk to anyone about you.  So Jack took what Luke gave him. Watching late night hockey, Door Dashing dinner, or playing video games for hours on end. Anything to keep his brother occupied, and make him realize that he wasnât alone.Â
Luke finally made his way into his room at 11 pm later that night, feeling relatively okay after eating dinner and watching a Canucks game with Jack. He had felt so unlike himself lately that any small reprieve from reality was a welcomed gift. He also knew that it helped Jack worry about him just a little bit less.Â
Luke had just turned out his bathroom light after brushing his teeth when his door creaked open, revealing Jack standing in the doorway. It wasnât unusual for Jack to check on him before bed, but it had recently become more frequent.Â
âYou good to leave for practice at 8 tomorrow?â Jack questioned.Â
Luke nodded, âYeah, Iâll be up.âÂ
âBetter be. Iâm not in the mood to drag your ass out of bed in the morning.â
Luke rolled his eyes, but the wary look on Jackâs face made him hold his tongue on the snarky response he was about to shoot back.Â
âPromise, Iâll be good to go at 8.â      Â
Jack deemed that a good enough answer, and went to shut the door.
âAlright. Night, Luke.âÂ
âLukeâŠâ you shakily whispered on the phone. Your voice was wobbly and high pitched, the tears streaming down your face evident in your tone.Â
âBaby?â Luke spoke into the phone, âWhatâs wrong?âÂ
It was an hour and a half until puck drop, and you shouldâve been on your way to the stadium by now. Lukeïżœïżœs furrowed brows caught the attention of Jack in the next stall over, stopping his movements from where he was lacing up his skates.Â
âI was on my way to the arena, and IâŠâ a broken sob escaped your mouth, startling Luke as he tried to fathom what couldâve possibly happened after he left the house.Â
 âSomeone hit me.âÂ
Luke jumped to his feet, âWhat do you mean hit you? What happened?âÂ
âI donât know. Someone ran a red light or something and they hit my car. I think I spun into a pole,â your breath was growing ragged as you recited the wreck.Â
âAre you okay? Where are you? Iâm coming to get you,â Luke rushed out as he began grabbing his clothes back out of his bag. Half the locker room was staring now, all with varying looks of concern.Â
âI donât know what to do. Iâm bleeding,â you squeaked. âLukey, thereâs so much blood.â             Â
This sent Luke into a panic. He was stripping his gear as fast as humanly possible while simultaneously yelling at Jack to give him to car keys. Jackâs concerns fell on deaf ears as Luke undressed, and he finally decided that following Luke was the safest option.Â
âNo. Youâre okay, baby. I just need you to tell me where you are, okay? Iâll be there so soon, just tell me where,â Luke begged. He knew logically that the cops would arrive before he could, but he needed to be there with you.Â
âDonât know. But my head hurts so bad,â you whimpered out. Luke tried to ignore the way he could hear your voice weakening as you spoke.Â
âJust stay on the phone with me, love. Iâm on my way to come get you, yeah?â
Luke tried to reassure you as he shoved his feet into his shoes and rushed from the locker room. Jack was hot on his tail, car keys in hand.Â
â âm sorry, Lu,â your whisper was barely heard by Luke as he sprinted down the hallways of Prudential Center.Â
âFor what, love?âÂ
âI wanted to be at your game tonight,â you mumbled.Â
âItâs fine, baby. Thereâll be a million more games for you to come to, yeah?âÂ
Luke attempted to comfort you as he searched for your location, plugging it into the GPS as Jack pulled out of the parking garage. Luke could only hope the pregame traffic wouldnât get in the way.Â
âMhmm. Lukey?âÂ
âYeah, baby?âÂ
Your voice was barely a whisper, âI love you.âÂ
Luke swore he could feel his heart shatter at the crack in your voice. There were tears streaming from his face as he pushed Jack to drive faster.Â
âI love you too, princess. So much. Jacky and I are going to be there so soon. I just need you to hang on for a few minutes. Can you do that for me?âÂ
Lukeâs voice was frantic and only grew more so when he heard your phone tumbling out of your hand.Â
âBaby? Youâve gotta stay awake, okay?â Luke pleaded, as tears streamed down his face. His hands shook where he held the phone to his ear.Â
âBaby? Please tell me youâre okay. I just need you to say something.âÂ
Lukeâs begging continued until the line went dead.Â
âFuck,â Luke muttered, sobs beginning to wrack his body. Jack looked at him frantically as he continued to navigate the streets of New Jersey.Â
âLuke? What the hell happened?â Jack kept spitting questions, but he might as well have been talking to a brick wall. âSnap out of it, Luke.âÂ
âLuke.âÂ
Luke awoke to Jack shaking him violently, and he tasted the salty tears streaming down his face before he felt them. âNo. Not again,â  Luke thought. He shot up in bed, sending Jack scrambling backwards to avoid knocking heads. Lukeâs head whipped back and forth wildly as his eyes searched the room. âPlease, please, please,â he begged the universe. He ignored the way his brain reminded him of the truth, ignored his brotherâs pitying look, ignored the cold bed beside him where you shouldâve been. It was if the whole world was pointing and laughing at his grieving heart. âLook at this idiot,â they all seemed to say, âHe still thinks he can save her.âÂ
âFuck,â Luke exhaled, finally giving up his futile attempts at disproving what he knew was his reality.Â
Jack stared as his younger brother lost himself to grief once again. Watching as Lukeâs hands disappeared into his curls, head bowed as sob after sob wracked his body. Jack felt helpless knowing he couldnât take this pain from his little brother. All he could do was hold him and promise to be there through it all.Â
âI canât keep doing this,â Luke whispered into Jackâs shoulder. âEvery time I wake up, I lose her all over again, and I canât do it anymore.âÂ
Jack hesitates, unsure exactly what to say in this situation. You were always the one with the best advice, the one who could handle anything.Â
âWeâre going to get you through this, okay? Youâre not alone in fighting this,â Jack paused, contemplating how to suggest his next thought. âI know you think youâre fine, but I really think you need help Luke. She would want you to get help.âÂ
Luke nodded, knowing his brother was right. You would hate to see him like this. Ever the caretaker, you had always been the first person to chastise him for not taking proper care of his mental health during hockey season. If you saw him like this, youâd pull him into your arms and then absolutely rip him a new one until he promised to take care of himself.Â
âI know,â Luke mumbled, âIâll start seeing a therapist. I think I need to step away from hockey for a bit too. Itâs not fair to the guys that my mental health is affecting the team performance.âÂ
âI think thatâs smart,â Jack agreed. âThe guys might not understand what youâre going through, but they know itâs not your fault Luke. They want you to get better too.âÂ
Luke could only nod, trying to accept Jackâs words as the truth and fight the part of his brain that was saying this was all his fault. Luke was so tired, but he wasnât willing to go back to sleep when he knew memories of you was what awaited him.Â
âIâll call the trainers tomorrow. I donât really want to go back to sleep, can we watch a movie or something?âÂ
âOf course,â Jack agreed, despite the exhaustion weighing him down. âIâll even let you pick.âÂ
A slow, knowing grin spread across Lukeâs features, âEven Secretariat?âÂ
Jackâs sigh could be heard all the way in New York, but he smiled nonetheless. Just happy to see that Luke was making small steps towards returning to himself.Â
âEven Secretariat.âÂ
So thatâs how Luke and Jack spent their evening, watching movies and eating obscene amounts of popcorn. Luke had smiled to himself for most of the night, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders. He knew the process would be slow and that he might never truly get back to ânormalâ. But admitting his pain and asking for help, that was enough for now.Â

you were overcome with a familiar sensation. the sensation of having everyone around you but still feeling alone in the world occurred often. the need to curl up under your covers and wither away, the pain in your chest, the random tears, the feeling that you're going crazy. everything was wrong, but you were unable to express your feelings.
you surrounded yourself with toxic people over the years, hungry for any type of attention, even if it was unpleasant. you desired to feel something. even if that meant it hurt you more, it was better than nothing. you weren't numb.
you tried to block out your thoughts with music, but the songs only served to highlight how unhappy you were. your life was uninteresting, and you feared you'd never feel genuine happiness again. until you met colby, you saw everything in black and white.
he was a colorful person who saw the good in the world while you only saw the terrible. it has been said that opposites attract. despite this, you two had a lot in common after the meeting.
first and foremost, both of you had excellent musical tastes. if one of you discovered a new song or band, you'd tell each other about it. alternatively, if colby was droning on about the paranormal and his love for hunting the unknown, you'd be all ears, staring at him with the brightest smile, seeing how his eyes lit up. colby often enjoyed movie marathons with you; you'd both choose a few films you hadn't seen before and watch them together, along with the occasional old favorite you both adored.
âoh cmon, there was totally enough room for jack!â you exclaimed with the remote in hand. you just finished watching titanic for probably the hundredth time with him and you were back to arguing about the ending. âiâm not saying there wasnât, jus sayin it wouldâve been hard to balance!â he laughed, standing up from your sofa with the popcorn bowl in hand. âokay yeah maybe, but thatâs why she had the life jacket!â you heard him snicker from the kitchen, ây/n, the movie is twenty years old, i donât think itâll change anytime soon. sorry darlingâ he walked back into the living room falling by your side.
though, it wasnât always glamorous. you knew colby was famous, you know girls practically threw themselves at him and it did make you uneasy.
not that you thought you werenât good enough for him, but the fear that once you had another episode, he would leave you.
colby understood about your mental health; he was always there for you and would do whatever to help you the best he could. you never wanted him to see you at your lowest; it was a difficult period for you, and you didn't want colby to bear that burden.
you were going through that again. everything went back to black and white, and the color faded day by day. you began to lose that sparkle in your eyes, you stopped smiling at his texts, you slept most of the day, you didn't leave your bed, and you even forgot to eat some days. your body was once again being overwhelmed by that sensation.
colby began to notice your absence, your one-word texts back, or even not messaging back for hours. it was like a complete shift. he was aware of what was going on and did not hold it against you. you needed time to deal with everything, but he didn't want you alone. he didn't have much experience with what you were feeling, but he would spend every single day with you just to understand; he wants to help you. he doesn't want you to suffer any longer, and even if you didn't talk to him or tell him how you felt, he wanted you to know he was there for you no matter what.
you lay on your bed, a mountain of sheets covering your body. all of your lights were turned out, and the only light came from your window. you couldn't recall when you last showered, maybe four days ago if you had to guess.
when you tried to close your eyes, you felt that familiar aching in your chest again. you began to cry as memories flooded your head. it was annoying not to be able to sleep without your mind taking control. reminding yourself of all you could have done better or things that have contributed to your depression. you felt guilty for everything, even if it had nothing to do with you.
you rolled over, facing your window and door. It was almost midnight. you just wanted to sleep, but following your previous naps, you doubted you'd get any. you tried to close your eyes and rest, but were interrupted by a knock at the door. "y/n?" you heard your boyfriend's voice and opened the door, only to be met with darkness. you opened your eyes and looked at him. "colby?"
he entered, closing the door behind him. "you vanished, and I just wanted to check on you." he left his spare key on your desk. "im okay," he knew you weren't, so he moved over to your side and perched on the edge of the bed. "you sure?" he asks, reaching for your hand. "i know you're having a hard time; whether you let me in or not is up to you." "but I hate seeing you suffer like this, y/n," he implored, his thumb sliding over your knuckles. meanwhile, you chewed on the inside of your cheek as you stared at the wall, fighting back the surge of emotions. "I just," you began, exhaling the breath you felt you'd been holding.
âI'm not sure, colbs. "I just don't know," you hesitated, "I always end up like this again." I can't express how I feel. "I've spent so much time suffering that it's normal," you explained, a few tears falling from your eyes. I don't want to put you down because you deserve so much more."
colby rose, had you scoot over, and took your place on the bed. he drew you closer, allowing you to cry with your head on his chest. "please don't say that." knowing how depressed you were shattered his heart. "i want to be there for you no matter how many times you go through this. âits a part of you that i still adore. you closed your eyes, fighting back tears as he smiled sadly.
"youll get through this, and I'll be right here until you do. you don't have to be alone anymore."

waiting | R Mcgroarty
summary: song fic for waiting by norah jones
-
Hush now watch the stars fall Into a fire wall
I am waiting here Waiting for you to come home
You stood shivering on the side of the road, wrapped in that foil blanket the firefighters had given you.
You watched with watery eyes as they finally pulled him from the car.
It felt like an out of body experience watching his lifeless body lay in the street before they finally covered it up.
Luca screamed your name from behind the yellow tape until the police let him through, the rest of the team still there watching.
He ran to you, standing infront of you and taking your eyes off Rutger for once this evening.
âY/N, whatâs happened? Whatâs going on? Are you-â
You mumbled softly âHeâs dead⊠he died Luca, Rut is deadâ before dropping the foil blanket to show him your blood stained hands.
He held your shaking hands âItâs gonna be okâ
âHeâs goneâŠâ
Melting icy snow l am waiting here, Waiting for you to come home
As the semester carried on, the world continued to spin around you.
You went back to that intersection everyday.
You sat on the bench across from where it happened, you could still hear the tires screeching and the yelling. You can feel that blood soaking your hands when you fired to shake him awake.
You sat at the intersection just hoping heâd roll up to that stop sign and call for you to hop in.
You felt sick.
Youâd been feeling sick lately, tired and moody too. The doctor said it wasnât out with the norm for victims of trauma to suffer these side effects even two months on.
You didnât like sleeping because it would happen all over again infront of you while you slept.
The boys took turns sleeping on your couch to keep an eye on you. Majority of the time theyâd end up in your bed holding you as it was the only way to sleep, when youâd wake up youâd forget for a split second that it wasnât Rutger holding you.
Those few seconds were the best few seconds in your day.
Now, they were holding back your hair as your projectile vomited into the toilet bowl.
Markâs hand rubbed small circles in your lower back, coaxing you through âYou should see a doctorâ
âI did, she said it was fineâ
âThisâ he gestured to you âisnât fine! This isnât grief, I mean if I didnât know any better Iâd say you were pregnantâ
His comment made your body run stiff âWhat?â
âI said-â
âI know what you said Mark! What if Iâm- I think youâre rightâ realization settled over your body when you slumped down against his leg to think of your missed periods, sickness, mood changes all were excused as grief.
Your head dropped onto Markâs knee while you sniffled softly. His hand combed through your hair âYou good?â
âI really, really wish you were Rutâ
When will I ever learn that If I wait it doesn't mean you will return
You sat in the damp grass with your head leaning onto the side of the stone.
âShe thinks youâre a little weird for not coming to the appointmentsâ you commented, shifting to get comfortable âHow awkward would it be if I told her where you really wereâ
It felt weird to joke and not hear his laugh in return.
Sighing, you pull the envelope out of your jacket pocket âfind out together, eh?â
âI miss you baby, so muchâ you start, hands shaking with the envelope in them âThis is so scary going through this, I really want to just hold your hand Rut⊠Iâm waiting for you to just come homeâ
You paused for a moment as if waiting for an answer and when it didnât come you continued opening the envelope.
âOkay⊠three, two, one-â you pulled the paper out, the blue writing confronting you head on.
A tsunami of emotions hit you at once and you began sobbing
âA boy, our boy⊠your boy, youâre coming home to me Rutâ
âCome homeâ
Now all the stars have gone, cracks of dawn
Towards the end of your pregnancy things got better. You spent less time at the intersection and more time painting his room.
You smiled now which nobody had seen in a long time. You were excited about things and it made everyone so happy.
You called his sister everyday to give updates on babyboy, listening to her as sheâd tell the bump stories of his dad.
You also told him stories. The ones where you fell in love, the things you wanted him remembered for.
âYour daddy is the best person ever, but you already know that heâs keeping you safe before he sends you home to meâ
I'm waiting here, Waiting for you to come home.
He came early.
The baby wasnât due in March, he wasnât due yet.
You panicked, crying for Rutger to hold your hand and sobbing when you realized that wasnât an option.
âI want Rut!â You cried, squeezing Lucaâs hand
âI know, itâs okâ
âItâs not ok! This isnât-â
Luca pulled your phone off the table and fiddled about with it until he pressed play.
âHey pretty girl, just calling to check inâ it was Rutgers voice, a voicemail heâd left when you were studying late one night âI love you, you can do this! You can do anythingâ
When his voice stopped you cried âWhat-â
âYou heard him Y/N, you can do it⊠he trusted youâ
You heard his voice the whole night coaxing you through it, you just thought of him.
He finally arrived, perfect and healthy. Like he was right one time. Heaven sent.
Rutger McGroarty Jr
30 March. 06:25am
You held him in your arms, rocking him back and forth.
âYou came home to me, youâre finally home⊠Iâve been waiting for youâ

my heart is my armor for @thefreakandthehair's Spicy Six Spring Challenge (mwah mwah!) | *ao3 link here*
Eddie doesnât understand Steveâs sudden interest in having a garage sale. Everything that they own is junk disguised as furniture. None of it is worth looking at, let alone buying.
Besides, they donât even have a garage. Theyâre still slumming it in this dingy duplex, too broke to afford decent cutlery.
âA garage sale with no garage is just false advertisement, babe.â Eddie flops onto his stomach, hears the boxsprings of their shitty mattress groan underneath him.
âWe need to do some spring cleaning anyways.â Steve sinks his nails into Eddieâs hair, scratches at his roots the way Eddie likes it best. Itâs all mindless now, physical affection. Five months ago, both of them wouldâve been scared shitless to behave this way. Now, itâs easy.
Routine bliss. Â
âMight as well make a few extra dollars out of it.â Steve adds.
Eddie scoffs. Flattens his face into the mattress, ignores the questionable dude smell. âWhat the fuck is spring cleaning anyways?â
âJust a thing. Always has been.â
âHmph.â
Spring cleaning sounds like a tradition that rich assholes invented as an excuse to throw away the winter jackets they never even wore - never even took the tags off of. Eddie can just imagine a gaggle of housewives, swishing their wine and speaking in some fake transatlantic accent:Â âOh sweet darling lambchop, itâs not wasteful. Itâs simply a bit of spring cleaning.â
âI never agreed to do spring cleaning.â Eddie says.
âYou never agree to do cleaning, period.â
âThatâs not true. I did the laundry last month.â
Which isnât a lie. Eddie did three (two) loads of laundry after Steve refused to go anywhere near it. Claims that the final straw was seeing some sort of mutated rodent emerging from their hamper.
âOh that?â Eddie had fished his brain for a plausible explanation. âThat was just a mouse or a rat or a⊠miniature possum. Something like that.â At the time, he phrased the whole thing like the weirdest multiple choice quiz - the most suitable answer being Something Like That.Â
âWhatever.â Steve snorts, likely recalling that same night. He turns off the lamp, lets the dark bleed into the room, swallowing the light.Â
They both inch into the middle of the bed, where itâs naturally starting to dip at the center. All of their belongings are used, including this mattress. If money werenât an issue, they would invest in a new one.
Or not. Eddie kind of likes that it sags in the middle, where they always meet. Like itâs giving in, shaping itself around the weight of their relationship.
The thought makes him smile, a stupidly smitten grin at his stupidly pretty boyfriend.
âWhat?â Steve pokes a finger at the corner of Eddieâs mouth.
âNothing.â He catches Steveâs finger, pretends to gnaw it off his hand till Steve laughs. Best fucking sound, even better in their bed.Â
Christ, heâs so in love. Wants a megaphone to scream about how in love he is with Steve Harrington. Wants to call a local radio station and request the sappiest love songs imaginable. Wants to be able to just say it, then never stop saying it.
That feels colossal though. Like the playfulness will fizzle out or the blissful routine will rupture.Â
So he just says it in other ways, like tonight.Â
âOkay, fine. You win.â Which is a direct translation to those three important words, because Eddie hates losing. One of his top ten least favorite things in this world is losing.Â
He folds Steveâs fingers into a fist, kisses over every knuckle. Looks up to see Steve blinking slowly, half-asleep. Looks happy.Â
And damn, that makes it all worth it, right? Losing so Steve can win. That makes it tolerable, almost enjoyable, for a soft expression like that.
âIâll do the non-garage garage sale.â
Steve yawns, nuzzles into his side of the pillow. âI knew you would.â
Eddie complains the entire time they clean. Makes the biggest fuss, stomps from room to room. Their place is small, sure. Yet somehow, they generate enough dust and dirt to fill multiple trash bags. Which means multiple trips to the dumpster.
Fuck Spring for making cleanliness a seasonal personality trait.
Itâs late into the afternoon when they finally take a break. Both of them are pretty disgusting, so they sit on the front steps of the duplex.
âQuit scowling, you big baby.â Steve passes a glass of water to Eddie. Takes a long chug from his own glass, throwing his head back to get more down.Â
No human being has the right to look this sexy without proper legal representation. But Steve wears dirt and sweat like an accessory. Makes the grime so damn rugged, utterly hot.
Yeah. Eddie finally can relate to all the women that drool over erotica novel covers. Fully gets the appeal.
âSo, find anything worth selling?â Steve asks.Â
âAs a matter of fact, yeah. I did.â
Eddie reaches to his side and grabs a black binder: Steveâs baseball card collection. An extensive one at that.Â
He smooths over the plastic cover, fluttering his lashes up at Steve, who seems to be seconds away from hulking out over the suggestion.
âOh fuck that, man!â Steve yanks the binder from Eddieâs hand. âIâve had those since I was a kid!â
âWhich is exactly why itâs time to retire them. Give them a new home. One thatâs not a brothel for cockroaches.â
Really, Eddie gets far too much pleasure out of this. Watching people squirm under the uncomfortable magnifying glass of his sense of humor.
Steve cracks his neck to one side and snarls.
Ha. Perfect. Eddie has dwindled him down to nonverbal replies. Just caveman actions that are equally as sexy as the dirt and sweat.
But Steve throws a curveball, too quick to catch. He slips into the house and returns with one of Eddieâs favorite cups. âAnd what about these, huh? What about your dorky Star Wars glasses?â
Okay, ouch. This game is not funny anymore. Totally bypassed Humor and went straight to Dire territory.
Han may have shot first, but Steve Harrington is aiming where it hurts. Cutting him deep (deeper than that very unlucky tauntaunâŠ).
âThese are collectibles, Steven. Collectibles!â Eddie exaggerates every syllable, first-grade teacher style. âI spent two years tracking down the complete Empire Strikes Back set. Still missing three from Return of the Jedi, but whatever. Progress is progress.â
âWhatâs your point?â
âMy point is, these are valuable.âÂ
âLike, worth a lot of money?â
âNo. You know what I meanâŠâ Eddie stands. He carefully grabs the glass from Steve and holds it up to the sun.Â
All the designs are just as vibrant as the day he found them. Him and Wayne had searched almost a dozen Burger Kings before he found this design - the scene on Endor. Eddie will never forget that day.Â
âThe memories.â He finally answers. âThese are sentimental and shit.â
Steve hums, nodding. âThey mean something to you.â
âPrecisely.â
âNoted.â He takes the cup back inside. Thereâs silence for another minute before Steve lurks around the door, saying:Â
âThen I guess weâll have to sell one of your guitars instead.â
Oh shit.
Another direct hit to Eddieâs blackened heart.Â
âYou little fucker!â He chases Steve all around the kitchen and into their bedroom. Wrestles him down on their saggy bed, instantly dirtying up again.
They end up with a decent amount of items to sell that Saturday morning. Duplicate records and cassettes, a few kitchen gadgets from Steveâs grandma, and some trinkets that Robin kindly donated. A hodgepodge of treasures, thatâs what Steve keeps saying.
Heâs so proud of their three tables of junk. Hodgepodge treasures, whatever. Just keeps rearranging things and straightening them out. Concentrating so hard that his eyebrows crease together. Adorably focused. Eddie loves when he gets like this. If they werenât in a conservative small town in broad daylight, heâd kiss Steveâs twisted-up lips, make him relax a little.
âIâŠâ Eddie starts, quickly tripping on his own tongue. Stumbles over that dumb fucking word. Four letters should not hold the power of an entire emotion, goddamnit.Â
He scoots out of his lawn chair, stretching upward. âI think Iâll go pester the lemonade stand across the street. Haggle the price down to a penny or something.â
Steve huffs out a laugh. âYou get more bizarre every day, Munson.â
âSo does the economy, Harrington.â
The lemonade stand is an immediate mistake. A little girl peers up at Eddie, eyes starting to swell with tears. Maybe the clouds are casting a big, scary shadow over him, making him look twice as evil.
Or maybe he severely underestimated how badass his look really is, who fucking knows.
He dives right into his haggling-monologue, when the girl points to his latest Iron Maiden patch on his vest. Asks in the thinnest voice who the âskeleton manâ is.Â
And look, Eddie doesnât mess around when it comes to educating this fine nationâs youth. So he answers honestly:
âEddie the Head. A vessel for soul-sucking metal.â
The answer is probably what makes her run. But itâs definitely the voice that opens up the floodgates.
Anyways, heâs not just gonna let all this freshly-squeezed goodness go to waste. That would be a shame. A travesty, even.
So he helps himself to two full cups of lemonade. Makes a quick escape before the kidâs parents bring pitchforks.
Eddie sneaks up behind Steve, whispers nervously in his ear. âWell⊠thereâs good news and thereâs bad news.âÂ
âWhat did you do?â Steve doesnât miss a beat.Â
âI got the lemonade for free.â He hops up on the table, waves the proof around with a big, cheesy grin. Still no reaction from Steve, so what the hell? Might as well get all the information out there.Â
âBad news is, I made the pigtailed kid cry.â
âDude!â
âItâs not my fault!â Eddie is suddenly very defensive. âShe asked who this âskeleton manâ on my vest is and I couldnât lie.â
âYou lie about shit all the time.â
âNot about history, Steve! Get your head out of your perfectly-shaped ass.â
Steve puts his hand over Eddieâs mouth, gesturing to the nearby shoppers. Not that Eddie is overly concerned about what the elderly couple can hear from this distance. And he assumes that the suspender-wearing dude admiring the Barry Manilo record, would probably agree on his Ass Opinions.
However, Steve is shrinking further into his chair from Eddieâs commentary. Grunting something unintelligible but mostly likely explicit.Â
âHere.â Eddie determines that the safest solution is to back down. Ease off until Steveâs complexion returns to normal colors. âYou can have the lemonade that isnât diluted with the tears of a child.â
Steve laughs into the cup and takes a long swig. Chases it with an exaggerated âaaahâ like all of those airbrushed models do in the commercials.Â
Eddie is just so damn crazy about this guy. Would drink a thousand tear-soaked beverages for Steve if it meant getting to experience every day just like this. With a smile like that.
âHow is it?â Steve asks.Â
âTastes like citrus and fear.â Eddie responds proudly with a wink.
Thereâs a pause before they both erupt into laughter. Steve slapping Eddieâs knee rather than his own. Eddie snorting like a sitcom dweeb. Heâs laughing so hard that he almost misses Steve uttering the most incredible sentence:
âGod, I love you.â
Says it just like that. Clear as water. Easier than oxygen. Like he has told Eddie that very phrase a thousand times before.
And Eddie⊠Eddie canât locate a single word in his brain. His access to language is padlocked after hearing that. Experiencing that.Â
All he can do is move. Move away from the table. Move behind the clothing rack full of used jackets. Move his arms outward, pulling Steve along with him.
He kisses Steve before he does something stupid like scream or flail around. If heâs going to open his big mouth, itâs going to be against Steveâs lips. Licking the drops of lemon clean off his mouth. Pushing his linen-soft hair back and holding it between his fingers.
Theyâre obscured by clothes and scarves, but itâs risky. Too risky to linger into a deeper kiss like Eddie craves to do. So he lets go of this moment and ducks into the house to catch his breath.
The rest of the day goes by at hyper speed, too fast to notice details. Not that anything could possibly top hearing Steve say what he said. Itâs tattooed deep into everything Eddie hears, permanently inked in his mind.Â
Once they head back inside, Steve flicks through the wad of cash, counting their profit. Itâs not much, merely pocket change - but certainly more than either of them expected. Eddie chalks up the surprising amount to Steve's charm and short-shorts. The yummiest eye-candy of the whole damn neighborhood.
âWe should save up for a trip.â Steve suggests.
Eddie raises his brows. âA trip?â
âA vacation. You know, get away from this shithole town for a weekend.â The more he talks, the more Steveâs face glows. Fucking shines with daydreams. âA change of scenery might be nice.â
Eddie holds back the urge to remind Steve that heâs the best scenery in the solar system. He already gushes too much, too often. Itâs bound to scare Steve off at some point.
So he simply kisses Steveâs shoulder instead, agreeing with a soft hum.Â
He starts to fall asleep while listening to Steve name all the places they should travel to. The last one he remembers is Boston.
âBoston would be fucking awesome, right?â
Eddie nods. Drifts off.
Thinks that anywhere with Steve Harrington would be fucking awesome.
Eddie heads up north for a couple of weeks to help Wayne move into his new place. Since Hawkins was previously sliced apart like pizza, Wayne wisely decided to retire early. Used his government hush-money in the most predictable way he could.
âAll I need, son, is an empty mind and lake full of fish.â And thatâs exactly what he gets. A one-story house near the top of Lake Michigan. Has one hell of a view too.
They head out to the private dock to chat and fish. Except Eddie isnât too keen on jabbing sharp metal into a water-dwellerâs mouth, so he keeps Wayne company on the dock. Lends an ear for all of his stories.
âShame that Steve couldnât make it.â Wayne waits to bring him up till they start packing up for the evening.
âYeah. It is.â Eddie agrees. Misses him already. âNext time though.â
During his last weekend with Wayne, a package arrives on the front porch. Itâs addressed to Eddie, which is strange. The only people that know heâs here are his boyfriend, his bandmates, and his boss. More than likely, Steve probably told their crew of demon-destroyers too, but stillâŠ
Why would anyone bother to send him a package if heâs driving back home in three days? Doesnât add up.
He cuts into the cardboard, practically ruins the box. Inside, thereâs an absurd amount of tissue paper. Itâs stuffed in every corner, overflowing at the top, just a sea of noisy paper.
âWhatcha got there?â Wayne peers over his shoulder.
âNot sure yet.â Eddie sifts through the noise. Digging around more carefully now because he takes notice of the âFragileâ labels on every side of the box.
He pulls out one of the overly-wrapped items, begins removing it from the tissue paper. After twirling through a few layers, he realizes exactly what it is.Â
Glass. Colorful designs. Fits in the palm of his hand.
The Star Wars cups. The last three Star Wars cups that had been missing from Eddieâs collection.Â
âNo fucking way.â
âWatch it.â Wayne warns.
âItâs a warranted response, I promise.â Eddie hands the pristine Darth Vader glass over to Wayne.  âLook!â
Wayne examines it for a while before letting out a long whistle. âWell Iâll be damned. Havenât you been looking for these since-â
â1983.â Eddie answers. He gently picks up each glass, thumbs over the artwork to feel the tiny ridges of paint.Â
Theyâre in perfect condition too, more than perfect. No chips, no blemishes, no smudgy fingerprints (except for Eddieâs now). He has to place them back into the box because his hands are shaking with excitement. Smooths his palms against his jeans, head shaking in disbelief.
âThat romantic asshole.â Eddie grumbles. âCouldnât just wait to give me these once I get back home.â
Wayne cuts him a vicious side-eye, one that makes Eddieâs spine shiver. He's received this look many times throughout his childhood, even more in his teenage years. Itâs Wayneâs signature stare before he calls Eddie out on his bullshit.
Apparently, it still has the same effect on him too. Works like witchcraft.
Wayne looks over the gifts, then back up at Eddie. His edge melts away, turns into something softer. Kinder.
âYou know⊠some things canât wait, son.â
With that, the tension in Eddieâs spine unravels. His chest inflates, warming up a few extra degrees. His whole body knows exactly what he needs to do - the thing that canât wait another second.
The phone only rings through one time.
âThis is Steve.â That voice. Hits like a homemade remedy.
âHey, itâs Eddie.â His nails are tapping next to the phone speaker, rapid and impatient. âListen, I just got your package and-â
âOh, god.â Steve sounds pained all of a sudden. âWas it too much? Is it gonna be too difficult to transport back home? I know it wouldâve just been easier to wait, except-â
âI love you.â
There it is. The words that canât wait. The phrase that demands power.
âYou⊠what?â
âI love you. Just, so much.â Eddie feels lighter, weight lifting from his lungs each time he says it. âAnd I couldnât wait another second to tell you. So, yeah. Really, really in love with you, Steve.â
All Eddie can hear is Steveâs breath. Just as rapid as his nails tapping.
âWow⊠um.â Steve clears his throat, but the sound comes out small. Strained. âDo you mind if I call you right back?â
Not the response Eddie was expecting. âOh. Uh.â
âJust - hold on a sec.â
And the line clicks dead.
After the third hour of organizing pans in the kitchen, the only room close enough to launch himself at the phone if it were to ring, Eddie accepts defeat. Retreats to the guest bedroom, contemplating what the fuck went wrong.
He groans into the bedspread, claws at his hair till itâs a fucking jungle. Frizzed out beyond repair, just like his nerves.
âThatâs enough moping.â Wayne knocks at the door, creaking it open. âWeâre going down to the lake.â
Thereâs no point in arguing with him. The man is the human embodiment of Stubborn - more so than Eddie, which speaks volumes.
Besides, moping in a different location wonât make him any less pathetic.
Wayne is a master in the art of distraction. Doesnât waste any time before telling Eddie all about the local gossip he overhears downtown. He quickly transitions into asking Eddie questions about his job. Continues this pattern till the sun falls into the horizon. Not allowing Eddieâs mind the chance to jump to conclusions until they get back to the house. To the phone.Â
The phone thatâs still not ringing.
Wayne nudges Eddieâs arm. âWanna give him a call?â
Yes. Desperately yes.Â
âMaybe. Gonna go change first.â
Eddie opens the door to the guest bedroom, and his lungs slingshot out of his chest.
Steve is there. Sitting on the bed. Looking at him with that knockout smile and slightly tired eyes.
âHi.â He sits up a little straighter. Gives Eddie the tiniest wave.Â
âYouâre⊠you-â
âCaught the first flight out here.â Steve cuts him off. âHad to.â
âHow?â
âThe vacation cash jar.â
No no no.Â
Eddieâs throat feels swollen with that realization. Knows just how fucking much that potential trip to Boston meant to Steve.Â
âBut-â
âPlease donât be mad.â
âIâm not, Iâm not.â Eddie spits out. Needs to swallow this barrier of emotion in his throat so he can form an actual sentence, for christâs sake. âFuck. You just⊠have no idea how much I love you.â
Steve perks up even straighter, seems fully awake now. His smile creeps up to one side of his face, outright mischievous. He tilts his head to the side and holds an arm out, reaching for Eddie.
âGet over here and show me then.â
In one fluid motion, Eddie lands on the bed, draped in Steveâs arms. They kiss and cling to each other as if they might float off somewhere. Itâs all too good, too delicious. Just canât get enough of how Steve tastes, needs to savor it after not having him around for ten days.Â
Being under the covers, kissing wildly, is becoming dangerous. And if Wayne werenât in the room directly across from them, Eddie would have Steve in unspeakable positions by now. Steve tugs multiple times at the zipper on Eddieâs jeans. Causes physical damage to Eddieâs horny soul to pull Steve's hand away.
They stay like this instead. Leisure, molasses kisses. Knotted fingers and tangled legs. Closer than skin.
Steve lifts up onto his elbow, swipes Eddieâs bangs off of his forehead to make room for another place to kiss. âCanât believe it took a few dorky cups to make you realize you were in love with me,â he says, lips still smushed in that spot before backing away.
Eddie flips onto his back with a heavy sigh. No way he can look at Steveâs face while admitting this outloud. âIâve loved you since the day you fed me a curly fry that you had twisted around your pinky.â
âThat was the moment?â
âThat was the moment.â
He can hear the smile in Steveâs voice. âWhy am I not surprised?â
âNever gonna dodge that âfreakâ reputation, am I?â
âNot a chance.â
The sky is dusted with stars that night. Not the kind of night sky they ever get to see in Hawkins. Steve marvels at them, mentions that heâs never seen so many at once, not even through a window.
âWe could go outside?â Eddie offers. âSee even more, if you want.â
âFuck that.â Steve burrows his nose into Eddieâs neck. âToo comfy.â
Eddie agrees with a laugh. âItâs a good bed, isnât it?â
âOurs is better.â
Itâs not, itâs really not. Their bed is rotting, the oldest relic of their home.
But it bends with them, forms to their bodies perfectly.
And since this bed has yet to learn their language, Eddie takes the lead.
âYouâre right.â He curls himself around Steve. Leans in closer and Steve follows. âOurs is definitely better.â
Even miles away from home, they somehow always manage to meet in the middle.
