Ugh fuck fine ok this preview i from like... pretty far into the chapter but I don't care, I'm so taken with this entire exchange that I just had to share it. I have missed writing for Bill, fuck I hate this manipulative fucker so much goddammit someone please save my son from this lunatic.

Bill let loose a wild laugh as he shifted back into his usual, singular form. That laughter only turned louder and more teasing when he caught sight of the utterly shocked look on Steven’s face. “I-it’s you!” he exclaimed, aptly alarmed. 

“No, duh, kid, who else would it be?” Bill proudly adjusted his bowtie. “And here I thought I’d be a bit rusty after all these years, but nope! I’ve still got just as much of a knack for pulling off a few convincing Crystal Chump impressions now as I did back then, if I do say so myself.”

As confused as Steven was by that, he didn’t let that get the better of him. He knew all too well that a threat was floating right in front of him, which was why he held his arm out defensively in front of him. Unfortunately, his shield was just as stubborn about showing up as ever, even now, when he needed it most. “W-what do you want with me?” he asked, eyeing the demon nervously. 

“Aw, ease up, Rosebud!” Bill encouraged as he hovered a quick circle around Steven. “I just wanna chat! You like chatting with your friends, don’t ya?”

“Uh, yeah, with my friends,” Steven winced away from him. “But not with bad guys like you!”

“Bad guy?” Bill asked, feigning surprise. “That’s a little harsh, don’t ya think, Rosebud?”

“No, it’s not,” Steven sternly asserted. “You���re working with Gideon to help him steal the Mystery Shack! You blasted Dipper’s arm off for no reason! And you pretended to be the Gems just to trick me! All of that sounds pretty bad to me.”

“Yeesh, kid, don’t take it all so personally,” Bill shrugged, unconcerned. “I’m just messing around–that’s just what I do. Now, your mom? She got my sense of humor right off the bat. Do you think someone as ‘good’ as Quartzy would have been friends with me if I was really as ‘bad’ as you think I am?”

Steven hesitated when he heard this, unsure of what to think. “You… really were friends with my mom?” he asked, not entirely sure if he bought that. Because certainly, if it were true, the Gems would have brought Bill up at least once… right?

“Good friends,” Bill assured, and he sounded surprisingly earnest. At least as earnest as someone like him could be. “And you know, Rosebud, we could be friends too, if you’d like! I’m bound to be a much better pal for you than any of those Crystal Chumps anyway.”

“What do you mean?” Steven asked, confused. 

“Don’t act like you haven’t noticed,” Bill said, wagging his finger. “The way they treat you like you’re just some dumb kid, like they’re someone they need to babysit instead of a true, blue member of the team?”

“You mean like how you treated me while you were pretending to be them?” Steven accused, crossing his arms. 

“Well, yeah, but was I really that far off?” Bill asked. To prove his point, his flat surface began projecting more than a few moments of the Gems counting Steven out or leaving him behind. Moments that stung far more than he’d like to admit. “Face it, kid. They don’t really see you as one of them, and really, who can blame ‘em? See, most space rocks like them come outta the ground primed and ready to go into any fight, but you? You had to start from square one with those powers of yours. And I bet you still haven’t gotten the hang of them either, right?”

“Well…” Steven looked down at his feet. “I-I mean… I have healing spit and I can sometimes summon a bubble and my shield, but I-”

“But you’re still waaaaaay behind all the rest of those chumps,” Bill cut in. “Who knows, Rosebud? At the rate you’re going, you might never catch up…” 

Steven tensed at such a dreadful thought, though it certainly wasn’t one he was a stranger to. How many restless nights had he spent, wondering when his time would finally come, when he’d finally turn into the Crystal Gem he always longed to be? How long would it take for him to even come close to living up to his mother’s lofty legacy? How much would he have to struggle just to stand alongside a team he knew might never truly be a part of?

But then, as if he was reading his mind, Bill continued. “Still, it doesn’t have to be like that…”

“It… doesn’t?” Steven blinked, stirring himself out of his own worrying, racing thoughts. 

“Nope,” Bill pulled out his cane and leaned against it. “Being one of the last-remaining guardians of an entire planet is an awfully big burden, but who says it has to be your burden, Rosebud? I mean, think about it; you’re just a kid. These are the best years of your life and you deserve to enjoy them instead of always being dragged around on big, life-threatening mission, don’t you think?”

“Um… well, I mean… I never really thought about-”

“About any other options? Well, you’ve got ‘em, kid!” Bill brightly proclaimed. “Or at least you could if you let me help you out. All I’d need is a little something from you in return. So…” He held a hand out, ignoring the way Steven flinched when blue flames sparked to life over it. “What do ya say, Rosebud? Why don’t you let your new friend make all your ‘magical destiny’ woes disappear–once and for all?”

EPIC thoughts after The Vengeance Saga aka my problems with how logic gets shattered in this saga

600 Strike depicts Odysseus as Athena wanted him to be at the very start. She wanted him to kill the cyclops, and he didn't do it because of his hubris and alleged mercy. Now he has no mercy.

Thereby, Athena's character arc stops making sense in regards to what is presented in The Venegance Saga. She's found the power of friendship with Telemachus, abandoning the "I'm not looking for a friend" mentality that led her in her anger. She uses said power of friendship and, in fact, asks Zeus for mercy for Odysseus. To win his game, she used her own wit and wisdom, the Goddess of Wisdom she is. However, "you rely on wit" stops being applicable to Odysseus. The wit, the trait he's best-known for, his most trusted weapon, is no longer of use against Poseidon. It's ruthlessness. It's the lack of mercy towards the other that he uses when arguments fail him. Poseidon has literally taught Odysseus a more important lesson than Athena.

And put your whole brain in it Remember every trick in your domain for this Odysseus' domain is mind, his wit. While he uses that with avoiding Charybdis, he doesn't do so during the confrontation with Poseidon. You'll need a mindset change for this I suppose he did change his mindset, as he says, I'm gonna use ruthlessness Every trick, every skill put to use for this I plan to put an end to all the foolishness I have to get home, put it all on the line I'll be dangerous

The second wind bag ex machina. One with Poseidon's storm. One that he gets defeated with. What. Then, Odysseus uses his trident against him. What x2. Why doesn't he defend himself? Why won't he try to fight back? Why would an immortal beg a mortal for mercy?

Also, it's said that Odysseus opened the wind bag to beat Poseidon. And then it's 600 Strike. So like. Odysseus has beaten him with the storm or with the power of his lost comraders OR both? Or am I not getting something?

OOC Poseidon asking Odysseus how he's gonna sleep at night. I'd rather expect Poseidon to laugh and tell Odysseus that he's finally learnt his lesson.

You can't tell me that Poseidon, being the pettiest bitch out there (love him for that), would NOT drown Ithaca after what Odysseus did to him. He'd damn make him watch and get in that damn water. He would get his revenge.

I generally think that what killed the logic was abandoning the source material too much, a problem that many modern media have. See, Charybdis being in the Vengeance saga fits well, it's just in the different part of Odysseus' journey. But there's no Odysseus beating up Poseidon's ass in The Odyssey. The Phaecians would've worked so well instead of the ordeal with Poseidon in The Vengeance Saga.

Also some nitpicking: 'Cause no mortal can pass Poseidon's storm Does this mean that whenever there's a storm at the sea, literally no ships can pass? It's not that every storm is inpenetrable. And if those inpenetrable ones are caused by Poseidon, who causes the penetrable ones?

-Creepy Calypso ickyyy

-LOVE LOVE LOVE WANGUI'S VOICE THO

-Her voice actress is so pretty and talented

-Doesn't redeem Calypso, but I sympathise a bit with her now.

-It's not bad, but not good (jisoo)

Dangerous

-I love Hermes ong bro

-And the winions???

-The vibe of the song is a bit more toned down from Wouldn't you like, so it adds a bit of a more sombre tone that I really like

I love the Vengeance saga sm….

so here are my thoughts

NOT SORRY FOR LOVING YOU:

This was SO pretty. Wangui has such a beautiful voice and she added so much depth to the character. But i still HATE Calypso. They could never make me like you Calypso. I liked How Jorge really made her seem like she just never learned how it was wrong to expect love in return regardless of circumstance. Especially the part “Was cast away when I was young

Alone for a hundred years

I had no friends but the sky and sun

So when you washed ashore

I thought for sure that you were my dream come true”

It really did a good job at showing she never learned because she never got a chance to learn these things.

DANGEROUS:

HECK YES HERMES!!! He was so so iconic and I loved how we was just partying while Ody was fighting for his life. My favorite part was defined the Wing Bag. Especially the winions. The melodies just seemed so much darker and serious then the playful tone of Keep Your Friends Close. I also loved the Athena reference at the end. I honestly hope Odysseus doesn’t learn it was her, it would make it so much more tragic.

CHARYBDIS:

This was the song I was looking forward to the most and I was not let down! The musical storytelling was so so good! Everything about it that I imagined is practically exactly what was on the animatic. Also extra points to part of it being done by @anniflamma (i’m not even gonna try to lie, Anni is my favorite Epic Animator) I LOVED the final verse. It was so pretty and Jorge portrayed the Longing of Odysseus SO WELL. I also adored the expectation diversion leading into…

GET IN THE WATER:

First off the Intrumentals starting the song were BEAUTIFUL!!! The piano was so striking and i loved it! Steven Rodriguez is genuinely PERFECT for Poseidon. I’m not gonna lie Poseidon is my favorite Greek God(Blame PJO) and Ruthlessness is actually the song that got me into EPIC. So it was amazing to hear him again. My Blood ran cold during the “Ruthlessness… Is Mercy Upon… Ourselves” part and I loved the overlapping vocals of the “Die”. And because it’s a bossfight it just has to end with making me cry. The “spirits” of Odysseus’s comrades was so pretty and I think it was my favorite(besides love in paradise ofc) of the “Heartbreaking remembering comrades” moments.

600 STRIKE!!!

1st of holy shit the Wind bag is such a cool Bossfight instrumental. It was so freaking cool(I love all the Wind parts in EPIC). I was a little disappointed by the Visuals, no disrespect to the artist at all! But i just thought the 3d was a little jarring. I truthfully think it would have been a little better if it was 2d. Enough of visual art talk though MUSICAL art talk time! I LOVED the chanting throughout the first-half. It was such a great(I think) wrap up to the Crews story and it also sounded awesome.

600 STRIKE: PART 2(that part)

Steven Rodriguez’s voice is really hot. I just had to get that out of the way. But in all seriousness this is my favorite moment of the Saga. I don’t think 600 strike was my favorite song, that title goes to Get in the Water, but 600 strike is a close 2nd solely based on the epicness of this moment. The way my heart just stopped when Odysseus said “Exactly” was just something I’ll never get over. Also I’m weird and i loved hearing Poseidon in pain.(I like my fav. characters to suffer). Also the overlapping vocals(can i even call poseidon’s part vocals it’s just him screaming in pain) was PHENOMENAL! I especially loved the 2nd “OOoohhhh” I saw someone say that Poseidon likely regenerated around the trident before it was pulled out and that’s engraved in my brain now.

And hot Take.

I think that Poseidon was actually ASKING Odysseus how he sleeps at night. During Monster Ody says “Is he scared that he’s doing something wrong” and I actually think Ody was right. Poseidon’s “I can’t” during Get In The Water seems genuine. I don’t know if it was because He literally couldn’t forgive Ody because of what Ody did, or if He’s is actually just trying to “keep us in check so we respect him, and now no one dares piss him off”. This may just be me over-analyzing/trying to sympathize my fav character but does Poseidon actually wonder if he’s doing something wrong.

And Finally, NEXT TO MY WIFE was actually so FRAKING cold. If someone said that to me i’d be devastated.

Ultimately the Vengeance saga was probably my 2nd favorite saga(after wisdom i just adore god games) Jorge did an AMAZING job with it and I’m so excited to see how much more a monster rawr rawr rawr Ody becomes.

EPIC THE MUSICAL: VENGANCE SAGA

I'll start from what I didn't like as much to my favorite times.

I'm gonna be honest, please don’t come after me for this but- I feel like "Not Sorry for Loving You" was not the best, even unnecessary.

Because no matter what kind of tragic story you have, you captured a man for 7 FUCKING YEARS with the claim of "Loving him". I am not even talking about SA issues akthough they may be not cannon in EPIC universe. Regardless, what Calypso did was pure torture and she does not deserve any sympathy. Especially as someone who loved someone dearly in the past, I know I'd not give the 1 percent of kindness Ody gave to Calypso in the song.

Now that I vent about that one we con go to good part.

HERMESSSSSSSS OUR ICON CAME BACK! Gosh for real Troy proved once again how he is the PERFECT Hermes. I love his voice, love his energy. Dangerous is definitely one of my favorites from this saga.

"Don't thank me my friend/ I am not the one who fight for you" I need Athena ASAP, cryin and sobbin and chokin.

Charybidis, the music was amazing and EPIC becoming even more of a game like musical which as a gamer I am here for it!!!!

GET IN THE WATER'S INTRO IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I HEARD. It is so short yet it immediately puts you in that Final Boss mood. I can listen that part over and over again. That dramatic piano, GOSH-

Steven Rodriguez, he is too good. Like how, the moment I hear his voice I tense in the best way possible. I mean okay I'll get in the water for you🤭 (Said the lesbian). Also when he said "I can't", I once felt the obligations and pressure that Greek Gods are always under. Like he said, he got a reputation and reputation is everything if you don't want people to question your sacredness.

Which thinking about it, it also remind me the time when Hades couldn't immediately release Eurydive because he'd become a "Spineless king".

Six Hundred Strike.... All I can say is "Next to my wife."
