McCoy Tyner "Nights Of Ballads & Blues" '60'70'80年代のピアノ作品を三つ。 一つ目は'60年代「遅れてきた世代｣のピアノ・トリオ名盤。マッコイ・タイナー"Nights Of Ballads & Blues"。 タイトル通り、安らぎ、寛ぎ、おおらか、ゆったり、しみじみ... 静かにジャズを聴くなら、このタイナー。品のある優しいピアノは絶品。至福の時間。 1963年3月4日、Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs録音。#RudyVanGelder #ImpulseRecords レーベル、本盤は1976年 #日本コロンビア からの再発盤。 タイナーは1960年10月、コルトレーン・カルテットのピアニストとしてスタート。コルトレーンのパワフルかつ幻想的な演奏に呼応するガンガンとモーダルな和音を叩きつける奏法こそタイナーの真骨頂。でも強いが疲れるのがコルトレーン。しかし、その重たく切ない演奏のタイナーとは全く別人のタイナーがここにいる。本作での流麗さや軽くて優しい自然に流れるようなプレイは、らしくないと感じるかも知れない。 何の変哲もない"Satin Doll"のような演奏に真価。シンプルで飽きのこないアドリブ。メロディアスで歌うようなフレーズ。一方では物足りなさもあるので、一部では低評価。 音質は暖かみのある優しいもので、若干だが籠り気味、音圧も弱い。曲調は割りと明るく重たさはないのに何故このタイトルか。 1930年代生まれで1960年代台頭組「遅れてきた世代｣のピアニスト四天王は、Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner。他にはRamsey Lewis, Stanley Turretine, Roland Kirk, Donald Byrdなど。 彼らは、激動の'60年代～困難な'70年代～停滞を極めた'80年代～そしてジャズ自体が音楽産業の片隅に追いやられてしまった'90年代以降も半世紀以上活躍し確かな功績を。 #jazz #fuzey #mccoytyner #stevedavis #lexhumphries #jazzrecords #ジャズ #vinyl #jazzalbum #スイングジャーナル
