Today, despite being @tmhalliday birthday, she let me attend the Albany @recordriotsrock . Out of respect I stayed less than an hour. My two favorite finds are featured here. First is @lydia.lunch.official “Stinkfist” which I already own on CD, but really wanted on vinyl as well. Second is the single “Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb.” It’s one I’ve sought for 20 years and it was even in original picture sleeve(I wasn’t even expecting to find one with the sleeve). Other finds includes Lydia Lunch and Thurston Moore “The Crumb”, “The Boys Next Door”(basically the precursor to “The Birthday Party”… and a few singles. Amongst the singles I bought were a few Shangri-las discs on Red Bird, Johnny Cash “A Boy Named Sue”, and Lavern Baker “Jim Dandy.” Great time. Everyone has done a cover of “Johnny B. Goode”, who do you think makes a great cover of this song?

For any of us who love Rock and Roll, then you know that Chuck Berry is the Father of Rock and Roll.  That iconic guitar riff still rings true in many of the rock bands that have played and are still playing.  Johnny B. Goode is the song that all other rock songs borrow from.  If not borrowed then it has been covered by hundreds of bands throughout rock history.  Just recently I played a cover of the song by Judas Priest, which I remember playing over and over again as a teen.  The song has been a staple in films, most notably “Back To The Future”.  When learning to play the guitar, you will learn this guitar riff and as soon as you learn it, playing guitar becomes more clear.

This is a perfect example of a Chuck Berry record that includes some of his great hits.

It is not necessarily price or sound reproduction, let’s say, the most advanced technology equipment as earbuds with mic. By hook or by crook, an audiophile tends to become a part of the high-quality audio. In the context of high accounting and loyal customers for the roots of the audio industry, audiophiles are not acknowledged to be consumers. They become devout elite customers or connoisseurs whose opinions are valuable enough to be taken into consideration by manufacturers and other listeners. I also know a lot about audiophile gadgets and think that the best version of audio is and has always been sought by audiophiles.

An audiophile’s toolkit is not limited to headphones or speakers. Our gadget expertise also allows us to make informed choices when it is time to obtain a new piece of equipment. Slovenly is proud to present the first ever official reissue of a Turkish holy grail - the 1966 tripped-out surf 45 by Istanbul’s Gökçen Kaynatan. Originals of this record - his first ever release, and from 1966 - are so rare that none of our Turkish pals have ever seen a copy, and believe us, they’ve been on the hunt!

“Moda / Fırtına” is the platter from his early years as a teenage rock’n’roller, and these two tracks each offer a compelling listen and demand motion. While mostly drenched in the twang of his custom built guitar with relentlessly swinging beats, his budding experimentation with electronics steals the show. Imagine the sought-after “Countdown!” LP by legendary session man Jimmy Haskell with an Anatolian lean during the peak of modernism and you’re starting to get the point.

Gökçen Kaynatan was recently honored by Finders Keepers with an LP reissue of his 70s-era pioneering in electronic realms that reminds of SUICIDE and MORT GARSON, but with the pungent tang of Turkey.
