This will sound dumb to people familiar with snooker and groundbreaking to newcomers like me, but turns out the point is not just to clear the table (and more importantly to be the one clearing the last ball). You have red balls that are worth 1 point and you can only shoot once, and you have balls in other colors that are worth more points and will keep magically reappear as long as there are still red balls on the table. The objective is to keep the hand and for as long as possible and to shoot as many non red balls as possible to accrue the most points before you run out of red balls.
