Teen Wolf The 100 AU - Nearly a hundred years ago, the earth was devistated by neuclear missiles. The only survivors were those aboard the thirteen space stations orbiting Earth. The stations join together to make the Ark. Now, nearly a century later, the Ark is running out of oxygen and the only option they have is to send the 100 teenage delinquents in holding to the ground to see whether the radiation levels are safe and the Earth is livable.

Among the one hundred is Stiles, the son of the head security officer who was put in solitary because he threatened to go public with the news that the Ark is not survivable.

Also among them is Derek Hale, an ex-security officer who snuck onboard the drop ship so that he could protect his little sister, Cora, who’s only crime was that she was born second in a place where controlling overpopulation meant you could only have one kid.

They make it to the ground and find that the readings were right: the Earth is survivable. But what they didn’t know is that they’re not alone. Now a hundred teenagers have to find a way to survive on their own on the ground.

No Superman by WhoNatural - E, ~48k words

Scrubs AU. I've never seen Scrubs, but if this fic is anything to go by I probably should. This is one of those fics that I'll re-read every time I see it linked somewhere. If you're into medical dramas, this is a great one. A+

A Functioning Adult’s Field Guide to Enemies With Benefits by BisexualGoblin - E, ~31k words

A delicious case of enemies to lovers, with a boatload of misunderstandings and a hefty case of pining idiots. Love it.

The Importance of Turning Around Three Times Before Lying Down by Otter - M, ~31k words

I'm a sucker for fics where Stiles unwittingly ends up looking after a dog that is very much not a dog, but a Derek. This one is excellent.

Lock All The Doors Behind You by Entanglednow - M, ~25k words

There's just something about a fic where Derek is feral and Stiles is the only one he trusts to get near him. I think this is one of the very first Sterek fics I ever read, and it still hits just right.

I'm Not Asking Questions, I'm Taking My Chances by Keldjinfae - E, ~80k words

Let's get a bit of fantasy going here! Stiles is the prince of a kingdom where supernatural entities are banished, Derek is a werewolf with a mission to complete. It's not a Merlin AU, but if you're into Merlin I'm pretty sure you'll love this (and I am very much into Merlin, so obviously I loved it too). The plot had me hooked, and once I started reading I could not stop. 100% recommend.

DILF by Twentysomething - E, ~30k words

I'm not always the biggest one for kid fic, but this one is excellent. Stiles is a kindergarten teacher, Derek is a single parent to his two nephews. There's slow burn and a wolf sanctuary, and some impromptu howling. And Derek is, indeed, a DILF.

The Lawn Ranger by Snowjob - M, ~47k words

High school AU. It's summer, Stiles is a jock with a broken arm and a crush, Derek is the werewolf who gets roped into mowing his lawn. All. Good. Things.

Where the Real Beasts Are by Kaistrex - E, ~109k words

Do I love Stiles as a prince? Yes. Yes I do. Long and plotty and excellent. There are evil Argents, there are direwolves, there's some wonderful slow burn. All things that we love.

Hilarious. Just A+. Derek is hit by a film noir curse, and it's just as perfect as you would imagine.

Stand Fast in Your Enchantments by DevilDoll - E, ~77k words

It's a classic, and I can't not rec it. Derek is feral, Stiles is magical, and they're held captive together. Read it. If you've already read it, heck, why not read it again?! I certainly will.

Wild Horses by ThePsychicClam - E, ~79k words

Ranch AU. Derek is a drifter that ends up at the Stilinski's failing ranch. I love this one. It has all the wonderful slow-burn UST goodness that I love, plus horses! 10/10 would recommend.

3. What fandoms do you write for? I've dabbled in quite a few over the years, but the ones I've written the most fics for are doctor who (eleven/amy) teen wolf (sterek) and the owl house (huntlow)

Hmm probably The Courtesan and the Writer (doctor who | eleven/amy) I used to dabble in angst a bit more when I first started writing fic, but these days all my fics are pretty much guaranteed to have a happy ending, because real life is hard enough lol

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Pretty much all my fics have happy endings, but one of the happiest I wrote would probably be my huntlow college AU Until You Meet Someone Who Makes The Fall Feel Like Flying

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I wouldn't call it outright hate, but I have gotten a handful of rude comments over the years (complaining that I don't post often enough, telling me my headcanons are wrong, telling me how they think my story should have ended — one time someone yelled at me in all caps because I said that a character chilled red wine lol that one was wild)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! Smut is fun. Mine is typically more focused on the emotional aspect than the physical, is usually the result of a long tension-fueled slow burn buildup, and is usually tooth-rottingly fluffy, soft, and sweet.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have! Back in the days where superwholock plagued tumblr, I wrote one of the silliest cross-overs imaginable, combining doctor who, torchwood, bbc sherlock, supernatural, the avengers, and sleepy hollow: Lords, Gods, and Madmen

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yup 🙃

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have! But most of them never saw the light of day 😂 one that did is called An Eggcellent Morning For Cooking Lessons co-written with @ash-mcj @tails89 and @nutellarghh

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I think my top three ships are reflected in who I've written the most fic for: huntlow, sterek, and the eleventh doctor/amy pond

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Luckily, everything that's posted to AO3 is finished, but at this point I'm thinking I'll probably never get around to writing the little nightmares, reylo, and captain swan WIPs I've had sitting in my drafts since 2019

16. What are your writing strengths?

I've been told I capture the characters really well, which means a lot to me. I've also been told that my writing is cozy and comforting and fills people with warm fuzzy feelings, which is always nice to hear 🥰

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I will sit there and agonize over the same paragraph trying to make it sound perfect instead of just letting the writing flow, so sometimes a fic will be in the works for a very long time until it's finally ready to be posted (by which time I'm probably sick of it and never want to look at it again 😂)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've dabbled in this a little bit, but it's usually been plot-relevant, like a character learning to speak the language (i.e. when Hunter tried to learn Spanish in Being Human.) When I do write in another language, I always do my best to research and try to get the translations as accurate as possible, and I always include the English translation either in the fic itself or as an author's note so readers don't have to break away from my fic to google anything. (And also so that they know what my intention was, on the off-chance I translated something wrong and accidentally wrote something offensive.) 19. First fandom you wrote for?

Does anyone remember that vampire show that came out back in like 2009? Moonlight? Yeah, that one lol

I'm trying to find a Sterek Fic I read on Ao3 a few months before. It was an au where the first words your soulmate says to you appear on your wirst and Stiles words were super mean (like, you're the worst person or something like that). Stiles works in a bakery and meets Derek because the cupcakes they made for Cora's birthday got damaged in transport or something like that, which leads Derek to say the words. Then Stiles tells Derek he's beautiful and they start talking like that. I'm pretty sure it was over 10'000 words and over twenty chapters and I'm 100% sure it was completed and in English. I tried to search the tag soulmate identifying mark with aforementioned info but found nothing, maybe it got deleted but I just wanted to make sure, thank you for your time! (Also sorry if the formatting is weird this is my first post on Tumblr I have no idea what I'm doing)

😍Backhoe (Zenaidamacrouras1) - 123K, no-powers modern AU with a smol Steve & beefy Bucky - absolutely incredible fic where Steve's an art grad student/activist & goes to protest a pipeline in Appalachia, which is going to be built across Bucky's family land - this fic was fantastic! Great (& authentic) sense of place & community, well-developed OCs (Bucky's sisters) - it's a meet-cute followed by all the work an actual relationship takes, very real & genuine with the emotions & hurdles that come up.

🥰Gravity's Got Nothing on You (zosofi) - 86K, sterek au, fake dating, frenemies-to-lovers with the encouragement(?) of some magic wolf figurines - it's probably been 8 years since I read this and it's as delightful as I remember - they're both so emotionally constipated it's hilarious

After the fight with Scott in the rain, after Stiles nearly gave into the overwhelming impulse to throw that damned wrench at Scott's head, Stiles knows he can't stay in Beacon Hills. He doesn't have a pack now, and if he tells Dad he'll no longer have a parent. So Stiles leaves. He gets as far as the Jeep will take him and then he walks a little farther.

Away from home, from everyone he knows, Stiles grapples with the lingering murderous and violent impulses that haunt him day and night and tries to survive while remaining invisible. But duct tape only holds things together for so long. It was never meant to be a permanent solution.

Can someone have a talk with my muse? I literally finished and posted a 20k+ chapter to a teen wolf fic yesterday and now I’ve got 5k written on a teen wolf one shot crossover with Jurassic World.

Like, yes, I binged the dino movies over the weekend due to the snow storm, but I did not need another thing to write. I’m trying to finish the first one.

Is anyone even interested in that kind of a crossover?

"What happened?"

Mini-Stiles opened his mouth but before any words came out he sensed a high-pitched vibration in the air.  It was like a rubber band pulled tight, then tighter and tighter.  It dug into his head, his chest.  Then it snapped.

Mini-Stiles whipped around toward the gyms.

Stiles was in trouble.

He didn't bother to say anything.  Mini-Stiles just ran, blindly following the magic in the air he knew belonged to his brother.

There’s a bookie on 11th that has been taking bets on the subject for years. In all that time there’s only been one bet placed that it was Brucie, and that was from some reporter from Metropolis who was clearly joking since he was laughing about it as he placed it.

What if everyone in Gotham knows who Batman is? They all know, they just don’t say anything. It’s not something that is spoken of or acknowledged in any way, other than the occasional glance or shared look of understanding. But they all know. Except for Brucie Wayne. Lord bless their himbo sunshine child, but he seems to be the only person in Gotham that doesn’t know who Batman is. He must be protected at all costs.

THE BAT & THE CAT

written for @sterekdrabbles 03.02.22 challenge. the prompt words were CAT, HILARIOUS, IRATE.

in honour of the batman being released, have some batman!derek and catboy!stiles...

Stiles leaps from the rooftop, landing on all fours. Looking up, eyes sharp as the lines cut by his hip bones, he sits now, long legs swinging from the balcony. 

"So. You're the big scary Bat."

Batman only stares, obviously irate at Stiles' specific brand of banter. It's a reaction Stiles is familiar with. 

Then, "So. You think you're funny, Cat,"

"Think? This shit's confirmed; I'm officially hilarious!" Stiles grins, a latex-clad Cheshire cat.

And, he can't be sure, but he thinks the Bat's lips twitch, just a little.

Oh, this is gonna be fun… both Batman and Catboy think.

I've heard these arguments before. They are not persuasive to me. But I'll address some of your points out of courtesy.

I do have to suggest that no one would have known which story I was talking about with your commentary. I used the occasion of reading this particular story to use it as an example of general negative fandom trends. But that's fine.

Yes, I know that only three chapters have been published, but I've seen enough to get the general gist of where the story is going. As you say, I, too, have read the same stories over and over, enough that I can spot a pattern. In this case, it is a very popular pattern to turn Scott and Deaton into bad guys so Stiles has no other choice but to join up with Derek, the man who didn't care that he got kidnapped at all and willingly works with the man who tried to arrange Stiles's death.

People don't have to reinvent the wheel every story, but they are responsible for which tools they employ and how they employ them. The old saying is, if you use crooked lumber, you build a crooked house. If you use tropes tainted by fandom racism ... well you get the idea.

Yes, I understand it is a canon-divergent AU. It's just a bad one. I found four important inconsistencies in the first chapter, and not little ones either. And I've talked about several of them. When people publish poor quality stories -- and yes, posting them on AO3 is publishing them -- I get to talk about it, just like you get to talk about what you believe is my bad take on the story.

No, I've never made the argument that Deaton can't be a villain. In fact, I would love to see a Villain Deaton story that actually moved past the standard shallow Sterek-fandom approach of "Deaton doesn't give Derek, the man who kidnapped him and tried to murder him, 100% of his devotion, and that he chooses to help Scott, the teenage boy has who endured a lot of trauma and has worked for him and in which he sees potential, rather than turn Stiles into an archmage and thus must be sinister." I'm tired of non-white characters being scorned for having their own agendas, rendered incompetent and ineffectual adversaries, and then waiting patiently for the white characters to show them the error of their ways or execute them, whichever is easier.

I belong to a community with many black and brown voices, and I listen to their stories, about how they find fandoms inhospitable, and especially this fandom, because this story dared to have a character of color as the lead protagonist, dared to have another character of color mentor the hero of color as the lead protagonist, only for the fandom to spend 95% of its effort correcting that insult. So, I don't consider myself speaking for black and brown voices -- that would be arrogant and wrong -- I consider myself speaking with black and brown voices, which is the least I can do.

It is not just tempting to paint everyone with the same brush; it's necessary. If this story possesses the same characteristics as the myriad stories tainted by fandom racism, it's important not to carve an exception when there isn't any. There's a reason there are nearly 2000 Bad Friend Scott stories on AO3 and only 15 Bad Friend Stiles stories. There's a reason that there was only 339 stories focused exclusively on the primary romantic relationship on the show and only 103 stories focused exclusively on the primary homosexual romantic relationship on the show (which happens to contain a character of color) and 48,262 stories focused exclusively on a pairing of two white men whose interactions consisted mostly of insults, violence and death.

But you know what? There is a possibility, no matter how remote I think it is, that I am wrong about this particular story among the tens of thousands of which I am not wrong about, so I will tell you what I am going to do. I will read every single chapter, and when I am done, I will write a thorough review of it and post it here. Then you can come and you can comment on it as you did my original post. Sound fair?

Uninteresting

So, yesterday, I encountered a story (at that point it was untagged, and to give the author their due, they tagged it afterwards), and the thing that jumped off the page to me is that they have Scott purposefully luring the Argents to the police station in Fury (2x10). This was a new one on me, so I wondered if the author had just missed the part where Matt had taken Scott's (and the sheriff's and Stiles's) phone and that Allison had correctly identified that Scott wouldn't have done that. I pointed this out.

The author replied that they were tweaking canon because they thought it would be interesting to see Stiles and Scott have a 'discussion' about it.

What they also thought would be interesting would be repeating every big idea that the Anti-Scott parts of fandom have ever had. Scott told Derek his family deserved to be burned alive! (He didn't say that). Scott didn't ask Stiles about his injuries in Master Plan! Scott was obsessed with Allison! Scott neglected Stiles for Isaac!

Such a variation on Teen Wolf might actually be interesting to me as an alternative, too, if I hadn't read it 15,000 times before (not an exaggeration). One of fanfiction's purposes is to give us alternatives to canon, but the trouble is when it comes to Teen Wolf, it's always the same alternatives. I pointed out that as a Scott fan who reads Sterek, it bothers me that they always try to justify the relationship by making Scott the bad guy.

They replied that they tweak canon in a lot of ways, not just to make Scott a bad guy. And they're right. Beyond that ...

They tweaked canon to make Deaton an Evil Sinister Black Man! So unique! He is plotting against Derek with Scott because he thinks Derek should die and Scott should be alpha. Unspoken is why he didn't straight up murder Derek after Peter's resurrection or still supply him with ketamine for the plan to stop Jackson, but if Evil Deaton had been competent, there wouldn't be much of a story would there?

They tweaked canon to make Stiles -- you guessed it -- a Spark! Ground-breaking, like florals in spring! And Deaton was lying to Stiles about the strength of it because Stiles is going to become Derek's Emissary! Because of course he would!

They tweaked canon so Derek is super angry about Scott's remark about the Argents having a reason to attack his family in Magic Bullet (1x04), but doesn't even remember that Stiles directly accused him of murdering his sister out of jealousy of the full wolf form in Second Chance at First Line (1x02).

They tweaked canon so Derek can't trust Deaton because the veterinarian is plotting against him for some unknown reason, and it's definitely not because Derek kidnapped and almost killed him in Heart Monitor (1x06).

They tweaked canon so that Stiles obviously did care after Scott was poisoned with wolf's bane by Victoria, even though we didn't see any of that on the screen but assumed that it happened, just like we should have assumed Scott asked Stiles about what happened in the Argent basement.

They tweaked canon so that Stiles never wanted Derek dead and that he can't believe Scott would be so, so cruel to widdle-baby Derek, who didn't lie to Scott about the cure or break into his house and threaten to kill him or did nothing at all ever to earn Scott's distrust.

I could go on. In other words, to them it's interesting to rehash every single Sterek Trope that has been written in meta and stories so often that it's become accepted reality. They "tweak" canon in only certain pre-set ways and always to the same ends. Because I do believe in alternative stories, I would accept this if, for every Sterek story where Scott is a Bad Lying Friend and Unworthy of Stiles's regard, so he turns to Derek, there's a Sterek story with different "tweaks," such as where Isaac tries to kill Stiles to get Scott to join the pack or Scott rejects Stiles because he's too mean to Derek which makes Stiles see the error of his ways. But there isn't. And that, of course, is my point.

It's the Big Lie. Everyone complains about discourse and why people would waste time arguing over trivial matters such as these, but ten years have passed and now I encounter multiple people entering the fandom who literally believe that Scott was OBSESSED over Allison, that he didn't put her to the side to save Derek and/or his pack on multiple occasions and that she was his necessary anchor. Who believe that Stiles was neglected and treated badly, not by the guy who bounced his head off a steering wheel or tried to kill the girl he loved or sent one of his betas to kidnap him, but by his best friend who literally ripped a locker door of his hinges in an attempt to find him. Sterek has become synonymous with Scott is a Bad Friend, and I dare people to argue that it hasn't.

And thus, a non-white heroic protagonist has been transformed, probably forever, into an unworthy inadequate simpleton who treated his mega-genius best friend and a (phenomenally rich, good-looking, and well-loved) orphan werewolf so badly. It's happened. Right in front of the fandom's eyes. And lots of people are happy about it for some reason.

BUT IT'S NOT RACISM.
