Look who arrived just in time to share a cup of chai with me! It's Laila, from Every Girl Dolls.

Laila has been on my radar for a while, and I featured her here on my blog a few months after she debuted. When she was on sale for Black Friday, I knew it was time to bring her into the family. So I bought her and one of her extra pretty dresses that was designed especially for her.

Every Girl Dolls was created by two mothers who wanted to be able to give their daughters a doll that looked like them and reflected their South Asian cultural heritage. The result was Laila, her best friend Anika, and her brother Kiaan.

And they've done a wonderful job of that. Laila is a beautiful doll. Despite being made for children, she has such charm and exquisite details that adult collectors will love too. And I have nothing but admiration for people who create the dolls they want to see in the world. Dolls like Laila serve an important role in the lives of children who may be seeing themselves reflected in a doll for the first time ever.

(As a kid growing up in the 90's, I never had the experience of not finding a doll that looked like me, but at some point I wondered why they all happen to look like me and not like my friends and classmates. It's encouraging to see how much that has changed in the years since.)

Laila comes dressed in her beautiful three-piece starter outfit, called a lengha. It's very nice quality, and I love the colors. She also wears a pink bow headband, shiny gold shoes, and pink underwear. See the bindi on her forehead--Laila came with a whole package of them in different colors.

She isn't sized exactly like an American Girl doll; she's built with a slim body, similar in size to Gotz or Magic Attic Club dolls.

I've got plenty of slim doll clothes on hand, so she got to try on a bunch of different outfits. She fits nicely into them. Her feet are a little smaller than AG doll feet as well.

Unlike most other dolls I've bought, she came to me without a branded box--a very smart move to reduce packaging waste. Instead, she was sent with several informational cards, tucked into a nice envelope.

As I’m doing this ask, I’m just watching Jack the Giant Slayer and making me SEVERELY wanna read Beanstalked, I’d love a passion fueled essay/reason from you why I should read it! (I’m gonna ready it anyways)

OH BOY I GET TO DROP MY LIMITERS

For starters, Beanstalked is a fantasy slice-of-life with a sprinkle of adventure and action. It does feature swearing, violence and gore as well as some body horror and existentialism. So just a heads up.

The main plot is basically that Lore, the planet that Beanstalked takes place on which exists directly parallel to Earth, has an event every 100 years where individuals are selected to become Bookmarked. This is where they are assigned roles from fables and legends from our world and gain secret weapons known as Märchen for self defense. This event has gone on practically forever under the watchful eyes of the Sun and Moon, the gods of this world.

But that all gets disrupted by an evil fairy called Nevermore who is bored of witnessing the same fairy tales happening over and over again. She has rounded up Bookmarked villains and the occasional misled protagonist to assist her and her army of ink stains as she aims to rewrite the world and rid it of happy endings.

The newest generation of Bookmarked are very unlucky as it is their turns to live out their assigned tales due to their stories all having been screwed up due to Nevermore's interference. Jack is one of these unlucky Bookmarked, who has just recently come to learn he has been assigned the same Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Much of Beanstalked follows hm as he learns about the magical side of the world he lives in, how to use his own Märchen, his own family history, and what exactly a "Happy Ending" is.

Beanstalked is meant to somewhat explore fairy tales and how suddenly becoming a figure in one can affect one's life-whether it be good or bad. It's also, at its center, a story about learning more about one's self and figuring out what truly makes you happy.

If you are a fan of fairy tale retellings then Beanstalked is a good pick for you. Especially if you are a fan of retellings that:

Aren't just mean spirited spins about the original tale

Aren't completely dark and gritty retellings of the source material for the sake of being edgy

Aren't just rip offs of Disney designs and characters

Or if you are petty like me, don't want to read another story about a protagonist having fallen into the land of fairy tales

Every Beanstalked character is meant to be based off either a direct character from a fable or a stock character. And for each fable, I try to bounce off the original story if there is an author (Like Pinocchio novel) or the oldest retellings as many fables don't have direct authors and simply have collectors that put their own spin on things.

So if you are worried about another fairy tale retelling story where each fable is just based off Disney's spins-DON'T WORRY BECAUSE ROCKY GOT YA' COVERED!

Beanstalked also contains a lot of found family elements, such as the entire village of Briar Patch being a community of Bookmarked who watch out for one another.

There are also cool af battle scenes due to the existence of Märchen (because Rocky grew up watching too many shounen anime and now has to put battles in everything), a ton of world building (I've had this story for nearly a decade now), a lotta characters with melanin (many being black), and a cast comprised of bi and pan characters.

ALSO ALSO...if you are a fan of pretty black girl love interests that kick ass (and may also be a monster girl with sharp teeth and claws and whole big monster form) then you will enjoy Beanstalked as Jack's love interest, Nana, is all of said above mentioned things.

SO if any of this happened to catch your attention-GO READ BEANSTALKED! As of right now I've rebooted it from the original 2010s version I had so it currently only has chapters 1 and 2. Which means you don't have a lotta catch up to do!

I have also handcuffed myself to this story which means I will be working on it till I finish it. I am on a mission. So if you want a webcomic and don't wanna worry about it suddenly being cancelled or disappearing one day-DO NOT CONCERN YOURSELF CITIZEN as I am unhinged about my fairy tale babies and am in for the long haul.

Meteor Falls.. He'd wanted to explore this place ever since he found out about the massive cave system itself upon coming to Hoenn. But, there was a rather large.. glaring issue.

Two of them.. actually.

One, Altra was notorious for his lack of directional awareness. Sure, he explored and knew Mount Coronet back home in Sinnoh like the back of his hand but.. This was unfamiliar. And with a lack of a paper map, he was at best stumbling around.

Two.. In an attempt to ask the wild Pokémon for help, he wound up coming across something he was far, far out of his league against. Most Pokémon avoided him, but.. Dark Types? Dark types were often friendly at best.. and aggressive at worst.

And this one was one of those worst ones.

A hyper territorial Hydregion had decided that Altra was the enemy when he tried to ask a Deino for directions. Roaring at him to back off, to leave..

Altra tried to apologize, to at least say he'd leave.. but it's aggression knew no bounds as he's get attacked. His team was.. not fit to fight against such a strong Pokémon, and although Albert was trying, the little ghostly fox was no match as he was knocked back and into his trainer, the two rolling against the ground as the dark dragon loomed over the two aggressively.

'Lucky.. shot..' The little fox snarled as it tried to get up while Altra struggled from the blow.

"Please.. we don't mean any harm!" Altra tried to call out as the Hydregion opened it's maws, gathering power for a Dark Pulse at the two of them, point blank.

How do spaceships work in Factorio?

You send a Space Platform Starter Pack (they are called Space Platforms, its just you can put engines on them) into space with a rocket to create a platform.

And then you send materials up to it and build it, the platform can automatically request what it needs and your Logistic Bots will automatically fill up the rocket.

Just like, build ghost buildings on the platform. Asteroid collectors, gun turrets, engines, etc, you just build it, and the construction is done automatically.

And you schedule them exactly like trains, except they dont need signals or rails, they just need gun turrets to shoot down asteroids and engines to move.

The whispers about his family have been trailing him for days. He’s done ignoring the glances, and half-smirks as he passes by. So when he catches (Muse C) nearby—someone he believes has been spreading the gossip—something snaps. Whether they have or not doesn’t matter; he’s prepared to make an example of them. - "The Great Escape" - It’s a grueling day of training, and Seonam is over it. As he glances at the clock, an idea strikes him, and (Muse D) just happens to be in the right place at the wrong time. with a mischievous glint in his eye, he proposes they sneak out and promise a much-needed break from the grind. After all "There’s a whole city waiting to be explored” -"Lingering Looks" - (Muse E) catches Seonam’s attention in a way he didn’t anticipate, and he finds himself looking for excuses to be near them. During a late-night practice, he spots them in the hallway. Without directly saying it, he hints at his interest, his typical guardedness peeling back just enough for a subtle game of “Are you interested too?” - "The Dare" - Seonam views (Muse F) as about as interesting a silk flower. nice to look at but aromaless and uninteresting. He's amused by their innocence and, with a sly grin, decides to challenge them to do something - or things- outside of their comfort zone. From sneaking out past curfew to climbing the rooftop of an old building. it'll be a night that promises to be anything but innocent. - First Impressions" - (Muse G) joins the program, and Seonam, ever the observer, decides to scope them out. He watches from a distance, taking in the way they fumble through routines, stammer through introductions, and try to find their footing. With the tiniest bit of curiosity, he decides, perhaps for his own entertainment, to take them under his wing. From the start, it’s clear that his mentorship isn’t going to be the gentle, reassuring type. - "Old Mixtapes" - Seonam, ever the collector, has briefly unearthed one of his old mixtapes he made once upon a time. When (Muse H) stumbles across his little walk down memory lane, Seonam lets them listen in. Together they sift through his old tracks. perhaps together they can craft something better picking up on a melody here, a lyric there.

Getting to know Steve Rogers again was much easier than the first time around.  The thing was, in the version of Steve you had known, he was still in there.  It was just that before everything had been so extreme.  You’d had to walk on eggshells around him, not sure if saying or doing something would set off his anger or his sex drive.

Now those extremes were smoothed off.  He could still be very serious.  He could still give you a look that made you feel like a kid who had just gotten in trouble with their father, but you weren’t scared that you were going to ignite something dangerous in him.  More than that, when he was very serious or not playing around with you or the others, you felt safe to tease him about it.

Where his extremes had been smoothed off in one direction, there were parts of him that had been suppressed by the thing that was in him.  He was sweeter now.  More tender.  He had a quick wit and an adorable playful side.  You went very quickly from being hesitant and unsure if this was going to work, to well and truly in love with the man.

The others were right all along.  It was really hard not to love Steve Rogers.

There was a lot more going on in your life than just getting to know Steve.  For starters, you now had a new job as a full Avengers Agent.  You were a combat field agent, which meant that if the Avengers were called out to fight, you were usually right there along with them.  There were also smaller skirmishes that you could be called out to, things that didn’t need a Hulk or Iron Man, you’d be there.  Thankfully that kind of thing wasn’t an everyday occurrence, and you could go a week or more with nothing happening, but there had been things.  Sam and Bucky had taken a group out to deal with a group of domestic terrorists threatening to release a virus.  Natasha had word of the Red Room being up and running again, and you and a group of agents went to break that up.  Clint had taken a few people in to arrest people selling alien weapons to collectors in an illegal auction in the city.  The biggest sting you were part of in those early months was the one where the Avengers had found the H.Y.D.R.A. base where Steve had been headed the day he’d run.  There was more of that Black sludge in bulletproof glass cases.  It turned out to be some kind of alien creature that formed a symbiotic relationship with other lifeforms but altered their thoughts to be more feral and primal.  H.Y.D.R.A. had somehow reprogrammed their thoughts the way it had done to Bucky all those years ago. The creatures were now totally loyal to the organization.

Being a full agent meant you didn’t see all your old recruit friends as much.  Collins was in IT, Qadira worked in the infirmary (though she’d come out to the field on rotation with the other medics), and Jacqui was held back for more of the bigger superhero events. It was strange for them not all to be there, but you all made time for weekly drinks at Valhalla, and when something else came up with any of them, like weekend barbeques, drag shows, or parties, there was always an invitation for you.

Then there was the whole going public thing.  The group didn’t make any announcements.  No questions were answered outside of no comment, or not answering questions about personal lives.  So it wasn’t so much about going public, it was about not hiding.

It meant there was a lot of speculation about what was going on with the group when you all started going out together.  There were rumors about different pairings, about cheating, about break ups and make-ups. Opening and reviewing my first My Imagination doll

I have a new 18 inch friend to introduce and review! And this one has had an interesting journey to me.

I stumbled across My Imagination dolls a few years ago on Dollation, a delightful but now defunct site that cataloged different brands of play dolls as well as collectible dolls (check it out via the Wayback machine). By that time, this particular brand, designed by notable doll artist Robert Tonner, was no longer producing dolls. I looked at a few listed on eBay, but I didn't feel ready to buy one. They were a bit out of my price range, and they didn't really strike me as very unique. Their brand name refers to the line of clothing that was supposed to be produced for them, in partnership with DC Comics, the Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Alice in Wonderland, and I think maybe Disney. But there were very few of those promised items that were produced, and the brand itself only lasted from about 2015 to 2017 or so.

I have more or less neutral feelings about the partnering brands, so that didn't really sell them for me. So I moved on and put them out of my mind.

Cut to a few weeks ago, when my mom attended a doll show local to her. She's a collector as well, although these days she's almost exclusively into Barbie and similar size dolls. At the show she bought a beautiful 16 inch Tyler Wentworth doll, and when she sent me pictures I was pretty certain that the doll was designed by Robert Tonner. There's just something distinct in the face molds he creates. He also designed the dolls for the Magic Attic Club brand, and I have three of those, whom I adore. They're quite a bit older than My Imagination dolls, though.

My mom and I were talking about other doll artists whose dolls are easily identifiable, like Helen Kish and Dianna Effner. I mentioned to her that Tonner had also designed a brand called My Imagination, and I went searching for examples to show her. That's when I stumbled across a listing for a doll that was not only a realistic price, but the particular doll I liked the best.

Since I first heard of them, my doll collection has changed a lot. It's no longer quite so dominated by American Girl dolls--not that I don't love them, I certainly do, but I've also opened my home to many other different brands of 18 inch dolls like Maplelea, Our Generation, Starpath, Healthy Roots, Götz, and Faithful Friends. I love having a diverse collection of unique dolls. It's fun to see how different they all look from each other, and yet they're all pretty much the same size and can be friends with each other.

So when I did see the listing for the My Imagination doll, I felt my heart change towards her and couldn't get her off my mind. I sat on the listing for a while, contemplating, imagining who she might turn out to be, until the seller sent me an offer for an even lower price. That did it. I went for it. And she arrived today.

None of the dolls in this brand were given names. They are referred to as Brunette/Redhead/Blonde, in either Starter dolls (standard articulation at hips/elbows/head) and Deluxe dolls (bendable knees). The specific doll I got was the Starter Brunette.

She was brand new in the box, and it looks like she was probably never removed from her packaging. She was gently tied in with white satin ribbons rather than those awful plastic straps.

Time to free her from her box and take off her hairnet.

She's in perfect condition. She has a full vinyl body and is very heavy. The vinyl itself is dense and smooth with a matte finish, so much so that she almost looks like she's made of porcelain. Her skin has no shine to it at all. It's a bisque color with rosy undertones.

Her long curly brown wig is lovely but imperfect. It's rather dry on the ends.

Her glass eyes are gorgeous. They do not open and close. She has inset eyelashes.

But I think the side part isn't working for me, so how about we try a center part?

I think this gives her a younger look! Later I'll try to get her wig off and move it over so that she has a center part, but for now brushing it to the side works fine.

Looking at her undressed, I think she looks skinnier than American Girl dolls, but definitely not as slim as my Magic Attic Club dolls. Her head turns, and her arms and legs move outward as well as forward and backward.

Here she is side by side with one of my American Girl dolls, Eugenia. I think I'm right about their size comparison.

They had a fashion show to find out for sure just how similar they are! Eugenia can wear New Girl's dress just fine. It velcroes in the back and isn't too tight. New Girl is wearing an American Girl brand dress, and it fits almost perfectly--it's just a tiny bit big, and definitely not in a noticeable way.

And here she is next to (her cousin? half-sister?) Rose. To my eye, they very much look related.

Here she is in Maplelea brand clothes. I also did some brushing and reshaping of her curls.

I haven't decided yet what her name will be. I do know that she's a modern girl who loves to read, daydream, and play dress-up.

Hello, this is your Oldie Chinese Diaspora Anon™️ I came across this Anon (https://the-bjd-community-confess.tumblr.com/post/757452685040631808/im-surprised-acbjd-isnt-an-official-dealer-for ) and their question-to-the-aether, and I think I know the answer. It’ll most likely answer a few other questions that have been floating around here as well. At least I think so, anyhow… I’ll try!

For starters, let me introduce you to something called the Universal Postal Union (Union postale universelle, UPU. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Postal_Union). For something so archaic, it is actually the largest reason why a lot of things that we complain about are the way they are. Anything shipped and mailed internationally follows the rate set up by the UPU. According to these international rates, it’s much cheaper to send anything by mail from Asia to Europe or North America. And it’s more expensive to send from South Korea than it is from China. This is why it makes sense that dealers based in China are able to offer free shipping – shipping is cheap enough originating from China that the dealers can absorb that cost. This is also why dealers based in China rarely deal for any company that are not Chinese in origin. It means the dealers will have to eat twice the amount of shipping (from country of origin to China and from China to final destination). It’s usually too cost prohibitive to do something like that, unfortunately.

This also reminds me of the question posted by an exasperated Anon a while back (https://the-bjd-community-confess.tumblr.com/post/748048371225346048/its-hysterical-that-divas-doesnt-understand-how ). Now, here’s a bit of a disclaimer: this specific dealer had shafted yours truly as well. After waiting for 2 years for a body with jointed hands, I was informed earlier this year that it was lost in transit. It’s a most dissatisfying result to a very long wait, and even if I was refunded the whole purchasing price, it was still left me with some distaste. I just wanted to make sure that nobody thinks the OCDA™️ is taking sides or deliberately speaking ill of either side of the conversation. Please understand, that is never the intention.

America-based dealers, like the ones mentioned in these conversations, are dealing with the unenviable position of paying two different shipping fees. They are also at a great disadvantage when it came to the UPU rates – shipping from the US is among one of the most expensive around the world, not to mention tariffs and import taxes. This is why Canadian collectors are usually disadvantaged when buying from US collectors. Even in the case where the overall distance between seller and buyer is shorter, as long as a package crosses national lines, the tariffs become significant.

Commercial shipping is, unfortunately, a little more complicated than someone shipping directly to the end-user after all. Trying to save on shipping becomes something that dealers try to do. One way of doing it is to take in the price difference and defray it on to the buyers, which is another reason why certain dealers have astronomical shipping/handling charges. Using land/water shipping is also a little cheaper than flying. But here is where the other conundrum lies – When a container tilts or falls into the water it’s considered lost. Recovery is a herculean task and it usually means the cargo in there is considered junked anyway (more information here: https://maritime-executive.com/editorials/what-happens-when-containers-are-lost-at-sea ) For smaller companies (BJDs are classified as micro-companies), they need to share containers with other people. This is something that’s actually badly controlled in China due to corrupt bureaucracy (so, once again, without taking sides, the OCDA™️ can vouch for what these guys said in this post to be true: https://www.facebook.com/BJDivas/posts/pfbid02tL96kt9R6vw546CZhe4V8EW7Fx7qqhx9NGzWjozVtbnqadR8yank69spfYjtMkn1l ) What they didn’t mention is what happens when a container falls over. While each container is insured, the value of the cargo is based on “What’s the declared content” and not “everything inside”. Imagine if a container that is filled with mostly clothes and it keels over, the insurance payout is relatively low due to the nature of -most- of its cargo. In that case, both the shipper and the receiver (the Dealer, in this case) incurs huge losses – a loss that cannot be defrayed on the final customer because they never received what they paid for.

As the child of parents who were importers and wholesalers, these intricacies of international shipping were something of a constant nightmare for us. You can imagine my surprise when I realised that the Chinese dealer ships to me for free… I was used the family business ordering enough stock to fill half a 50’ container about 6-12 months prior to it arriving. It’s the part of doing business that folks don’t really spend too much time thinking of, but it can really be at somewhere between 1/10 to 1/4 of the final MSRP. (If everything went well, of course. Because that’s not always possible for many, many reasons.) All of this need money, which means for a micro-company, the shipping is even more expensive. This is why while the labour cost in China is indeed quite low, the reason for the high price is -not- because of that.

Of course, the OCDA™️ would like to stress that while shipping is very difficult, it doesn’t fully absolve the dealer mentioned by the Exasperated Anon. There are a lot more things that could be done in terms of communication and streamlining the process. There’s just nothing for it. I’d like to extend my sympathy to anyone who feels that they are wronged by this dealer; heaven knows, I am one of you, too.

Who are Hacker and Xirus and how strong are they? I cannot find many information

I’m glad you asked! Now I’m not used to getting questions where I have to break it down for the new folks so I’ll explain it the best way I can! :)

For starters Hacker, or Hacker Error!505 was created by my friend (@rubytale-chapter2) and was later handed over to me so I’m kind of keeping his story going.

He is from an AU called Onvipointtale which is sadly discontinued and is the strongest character in his universe who raised the next generation of powerful anomalies in the Multiverse. His biggest rival is Naberius who belongs to (@admin-240) and he has a hybrid son named Short Circuit who’s a demi god.

Xirus, or Emperor Xirus Corrupto, was created by myself and he is from an AU called Xirustale which I’m still working on, and is the strongest character in his universe out of his two brothers Xiro and Xelter. (They’re triplets)

He is an emperor with malicious plans to corrupt people with a single touch (or if they touch him) and will manipulate anyone at their most vulnerable. You can find more information about him by searching the “#xirus!sans” tag. His master post will tell you everything you need to know.

Something similar about the two is they’re both powerful gods, one weaker and one stronger, one omnipresent and one omnipotent. However, there is a couple of things that make them different:

Hacker is mostly considered an anti hero by the fans but canonically according to Jax, he’s an anti-villain. That being the reason because he wants to get rid of all villains in the Multiverse, going through extreme measures as to deleting someone from existence, aka HT!Wiz who belongs to (@susartwork), but later becomes allies with him when finding out he’s not that bad of a person and often shows a bit of remorse, mainly towards children.

Xirus is self aware that his actions have consequences and chooses to go with it anyways because genuinely he finds it entertaining and has little to no remorse for anyone. What makes him dangerous is that if him and Hacker were to fight, he would definitely win, as making any sort of contact with him, (abilities count as well) he could easily corrupt Hacker.

For Hacker’s abilities:

Delete anyone from existence, no matter how much HP they have.

Travel to the real world. (the one beyond the screen)

Create life as well as destroy it with a single code.

Change his HP to whatever number he feels his fair for a fight.

Shapeshifting (his eyes won’t change)

Telekinesis

Flying

Breaking the laws of physics

Breaking the fourth wall

Sensing peoples intentions by eye contact

For Xirus’s abilities:

Can corrupt anybody with a touch, or waits until someone touches him

Deadly extinction attack that can wipeout half a population

Shapeshifting

Disguising himself as a shadow

Can enter peoples minds to manipulate or control them

His string attacks can destroy an entire planet if it wanted to

Hovering

Flying

Anamorph

Breaking the laws of physics

Move a planet with his finger (similar to the collector from the owl house)

Can move people without making physical contact (meaning if he wanted you to come to him he can just move his finger)
