The academy maniacs

In my opinion I think the academy maniacs are a good example on how they let their fascination for serial killers, lead them into becoming that exact thing. Artyom Alexandrovich Anoufriev and Nikita Vakhtangovich Lytkin are two serial killers from Irkutsk, Russia, known as the academy maniacs and the Irkutsk Molotochniki.

Morbid curiosity seems to be a natural human instinct because it's not always wrong to be interested in true crime, it's all really simple on why it's okay to be appealed of consuming this type of media, the answer is that serial killers excite and enthrall people, much like things that people don't want to look but can't look away, we get riveted by serial killers brutal actions because of the rush feeling of fear but we like to maintain that emotion in a level that isn't dangerous, society could be really drawn by the actions of serial killers because it leaves us with questions and can't comprehend their actions.

Dismembered Pugachova:

Dismembered Pugachova was a noise grind band by Nikita Lytkin, originally Nikita was a one man band but later on he then recruited Artyom Anoufriev. During their time as a band they were 15 and 16 years old and released 8 full-length albums and in there music themes like violence and offensive language were centered, until their disbanding in 2011 upon their arrest.

What did they do?

Between from December 2010 and April 2011 the academy maniacs has murdered 6 people and injured 9 others.

Their first victim was an old woman who was attacked by them on December 1st, 2010, but the duo were frightened by the witnesses around so they ran off with just her purse, but they used the money in the purse to go buy a mallet.

What did they do with the mallet? Well they used the mallet to bash the head of their 12 year old classmate, Danil Semyonov and additionally Nikita stabed him with a pen knife. When Danil was found by his mom he was still alive, so 911 was called but unfortunately he passed away before making it to the hospital. Since Danil Semyonov was found at the scene, the death was ruled as an accident and was never investigated or brought up until Nikita confess when they got arrested.

Just 20 meters away from Danil's body was found, the body of 69 year old Olga Mikhailouna was discovered and had 30 stab wounds over various parts of her body. She was consider the duo's first kill. Up until Nikita's confession in 2011, the pair had also recorded a conversation on how they were going to kill Olga, and they additionally recorded themselves killing her.

On January 21st, 2011 at 5:am, the duo attacked a homeless man that was sitting alone by some dumpsters, the man was never identified and is only considered as "corpse No. 20" but his killing was filmed and distributed online and has become infamous.

On February 21st, 2011, Alckander Petrovich Maximov was on his way home from visiting his sister when Nikita shot him in the head with a pistol and Artyom then tried to gouge out his eyes, but due to his lack of knowledge on human anatomy, failed at doing so. He was found with his head and jaw completely broken as well decapitated and placed in a closed coffin.

On the night on March 10th, 2011 homeless person Roman Faizullin was shot twice in the face and then dragged into the bushes, where he was then stabbed in the head, chest, and groin. Nikita additionally tried to cut off his hand, but the knife was not big or sharp enough, so he ended up only taking his pinky finger. Photos were later taken of the corpses, in there apartment.

The last murder took place on April 3rd 2011 when 63 year old homeless woman Alevtina Kuydina was killed near a research Institute. The duo first killed her and then film themselves mocking her corpse and then film Nikita cutting her earlobes off, they also wanted to cut her hands off at the wrist, but this didn't work out, so they ended up throwing the knife into her eye and proceeded to stab her in the face repeatedly. The woman's earlobes was placed in the entry way of their school and the film of all of this was additionally distributed.

Days of the arrest and their motives:

The pair was then arrested on April 5th, 2011 after additional remains was scattered on the property of the research Institute that Nikita's grandmother worked at, including survivors, there were 16 victims and over 50 witnesses were questioned during the investigation.

The motives to these murders are not completely clear, but there are a few theories and a couple of confirmed reasons. Artyom used to be involved with a white power skinhead group, and he claimed that his communication with this group is part of what influenced him to commit these murders. This doesn't really add up though, because he later said that he feels hatred towards everybody and that he didn't 'give a shit who he killed'.

Many believe that they wanted to become famous but one mode of that was confirmed by the pair was that they wanted to intimidate other famous serial killers, specifically the bitsa park Manics of Alexander pichushkin who killed several dozen people during his time in Moscow.

About three months prior to their arrest, neighbors of artyom reported hearing some strange things coming from his apartment, including hearing him scream things such as "I hate everybody" and "I will kill you." There are also allegations of him beating his mother after people have heard a woman screaming get off me from his apartment. When he was interrogated he claimed that killing did not give him the satisfaction that he was expecting it to, and that Nikita was the mastermind behind all of the murders and attacks. He also claimed that he had planned to move to saint Petersburg had he not gotten caught and continue to kill, but later retracted the statement.

Nikita admitted that he would not have been able to pull all the murders alone and that he too would have continued to kill had he not gotten caught.

Case closed

The case was open from August 2011 to February 2013 and on April 2nd, 2013: Nikita was sentenced to 25 years in Prison and Artyom was sentenced to life in prison, on October 3rd, 2013: Artyom's life sentence reduced to 20 years on November 30th 2021 Nikita's slashed his wrists in his prison cell and was found dead in the in the early hours of December 1st and artyom's remains in prison today.
