ROUND TWO
CAI DIGAMMA from UNDERTALE 2: REVENGE OF THE ROBOTS vs SPOCK from STAR TREK (BUT SPECIFICALLY THAT ONE MOVIE WITH THE TIME TRAVEL AND THE WHALES)
Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA:
CAI - "The game has an extensive fishing minigame, and earlier in life, they were a career fisherman." "in the true ending of the game, Cai's fishing prowess and ability in fishing up the legendary Tsuchinoko provides their village with an endless supply of fish and wealth."
SPOCK - "Okay hear me out. I know this is a weird one but listen. Listen. You said whale hunting counts and this is technically hunting, vaguely. In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home AKA the one with the whales, they have to go back in time to pick up a pair of humpback whales and take them to the future to stop and alien probe from destroying the planet by evaporating the oceans looking for whales because they went extinct from over whaling in the 21st century. Got all that? Good. So they go back in time and find a pair of whales in the Monterey bay aquarium so Spock jumps in the whale tank to communicate telepathically with them and ask politely if they can take them to the future and the whales agree so they build a whale tank in the spaceship and beam the whales onboard and go back to the future and dump them right next to the golden gate bridge and it's spectacular it's the best movie ever you should watch it. Anyway this is important enough to Spock's character I think so he should be in this competition."

Star Trek the voyage home is the exact kind of stupid but plausible chain of events I love from this franchise. Don’t get me wrong I love the serious stuff too, but no where else is the plot ever gonna be remotely like, “we have to time travel back to the 1980s to nab two humpback whales so they can communicate with an alien that’s wreaking havoc on 23rd century earth.”
Not even Doctor Who has this level of stupid fun with actual meaningful political commentary.
Maybe the pirate planet

The proliferation of science fiction fixated on whales was probably due to at least one scifi writer being secretly a whale

Watching Star Trek IV
Whale biologist: why do you hang around with that weird guy who calls you admiral and why are you so close?
Kirk: *hesitates*
Whale biologist, who lives in San Francisco in the 80s and is rapidly drawing many correct conclusions: that’s okay we don’t have to talk about it.

ROUND THREE
LANA from POKEMON vs SPOCK from STAR TREK BUT SPECIFICALLY THE MOVIE WITH THE WHALES
Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA
LANA - “they’re shown fishing several times in the anime, including having an episode dedicated to showing the other students at the Pokemon School how to best fish!” “(marge simpson holding a potato.jpg) I just think she’s neat.”
SPOCK - “Okay hear me out. Alright Star Trek TOS Cast Movie Ranking:
1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Voyage Home
3. The Search for Spock
4. The Final Frontier
5. The Motion Picture
6. The Undiscovered Country
I understand that the Undiscovered Country is an objectively better movie than the Final Frontier and TMP BUT I cannot let go of the absolute character assassination that took place for the sake of the plot.
Kirk would never hear that a planet was half blown up and the survivors needed to get rescued and go, “let them die.” Just because they were Klingons.
And he certainly wouldn’t admit on a captain’s log he hated Klingons because one of them murdered his son. That’s something Bones would accuse him of and maybe somehow that got covertly recorded.
Oh and let’s not forget Spock forcibly mind melding with someone, visibly torturing and traumatizing her for no logical reason cuz guess what, not only is the information to not be in her head, SULU JUST SHOWED UP ANYWAY WITH THE LOCATION!
GHAAAAAAAAA
It’s the fact that the plot hinges on two of these three things happening that cheapens the story. And then Kirk just kinda waves off Spock torturing and traumatizing someone as “everyone’s human.” (As in we all make mistakes) And it’s never brought up again.
Oh and the Shakespeare was obnoxious. The movie thought they were clever when it was just annoying.
