For more than a year this has been the news; everytime I am to write a post for a family, I go online and this is all I get to see. Nothing has changed in all this time. The occupation forces still bomb schools without any repercussions- they murder hundreds of people-they lay down seige-they allow no aid to pass through and terrified Gazans remain at a loss as to what to do and how to survive.

So nothing changed and nothing got better, rather things are worse now than they were in October 2023. As it stands, the whole of Gaza strip has been bombed multiple times, causing people to be displaced over and over again and lose precious resources like clothes and shoes. I cannot stress how important these resources are when children have to live out in the open sand and when people have to travel long miles to either get a connection or food. My friend Siraj Abudayeh ( @siraj2024z ) has been displaced SEVEN times and 2 months ago his extended family was displaced when the occupation forces closed in on their camp. With the onslaught of winter Siraj has to provide all of his family members with winter clothes and shoes that they have gradually lost when they were forced to flee. He has to provide for TWENTY FOUR people. Currently your donations have helped Siraj to rent a shelter for 10 of his most vulnerable family members but this means that 14 others, including Siraj himself is still living in tents! He is so cold and so are his sons. The nights are terrible and the tent which went through the wear and tear of the weather for the better part of this year, is barely any protection at all.

So please, please donate to Siraj. He wants nothing expensive, he has said that he will buy the cheapest winter clothes that are available in the market. But please we must raise at least 3k for Siraj ASAP. He has received no donations for over 12 hours and is currently stuck at $93,426 CAD

Once again, please remember that things are going to be much more difficult during this winter of 2024. The hospitals have been bombed all throughout the Gaza strip, making it difficult to seek treatment for even basic ailments. There are barely any shelters left standing where people might be able to retire to, to escape the winter cold and fuel to warm up is a luxury. Also the IOF has routinely attacked camps, after which people were forced to leave behind precious life saving items which were either destroyed or looted. who yearns harder, alhaitham or kaveh?

this is the second part of the ask i received! the first part discussing alhaitham's yearning is here!

Before moving onto their current relationship in-game, kaveh’s yearning will be explored. I think kaveh’s ‘yearning’ was more his hurt and his mourning over one of the most substantial relationships in his life, as alhaitham effectively filled in the familial role kaveh was missing after the passing of his father and his mother leaving to Fontaine, additionally kaveh also considered alhaitham to be his 'best friend' before their argument

in his voice line kaveh mentions that if they were as close as they used to be he would thank alhaitham for helping him out, meaning that he would have no hesitation in being open with and trusting of alhaitham

Additionally, there’s a romanticism in kaveh using the idea of ‘the universe’ in relation to him and alhaitham, as it seems that fate has led them back together, which for kaveh, is both a negative and a positive due to their differences and the issues these differences have caused, where they were once the cause for the deepness of their bond

Kaveh appears uncertain of why alhaitham would want him around, as alhaitham has seemingly rejected him in the past, so there is nothing he can conceivably offer, and this question is left unanswered

This uncertainty in their relationship can be seen in how kaveh consistently complains about alhaitham, all the while acknowledging that alhaitham has helped him. this creates a parallel in his hangout where kaveh states if he didn’t care about his work, he wouldn’t be so torn up all the time, which can be linked to his treatment of alhaitham (especially as this is from the same route as the talk with alhaitham in the library), which kaveh equates to loving something

Direct parallel or not, I think that alhaitham is equally as important to kaveh as kaveh is to alhaitham, only that due to kaveh’s misconception of alhaitham’s motives, past and present, this regard of alhaitham manifests in a way that can be misinterpreted as dislike, but kaveh’s care is explicit where he asks twice if alhaitham is okay after the encounter with Siraj, in him bringing takeout home for alhaitham, and in him worrying that alhaitham isn’t getting the interaction he deems as necessary when alhaitham misses the group dinner

post-parade of providence, they now stand as equals, and kaveh is open with and trusting of alhaitham, enjoying their conversation in actively telling alhaitham about his day, and offering to help alhaitham research, rectifying their past thesis in cyno's second story quest (which i explore more here and here)

kaveh now actively seeks alhaitham out, which is shown in an odd textual mystery,  where the first thing he wanted to do is inform alhaitham of what happened, which contrasts with kaveh’s claims previous that he doesn’t care what alhaitham does with his spare time, so long as it’s away from him

now kaveh serendipitously bumps into alhaitham in port ormos in nahida’s birthday event, and says that he’s glad they did since he was meaning to talk to alhaitham about his plans, even though he believes they’re completed and 'foolproof' - simply because he wanted alhaitham’s opinion

Overall, I think they’ve both yearned although in different ways, but I am a firm believer that alhaitham fell first, and kaveh fell harder. I think kaveh’s actions of seeking alhaitham out are explicit in this new arc for them, and this highlights alhaitham’s initial pursuit of kaveh in earlier story beats.

They’ve both finally reached the stage where they can reach out to the other, and have this be reciprocated, and they’re just as intolerable as ever <3333

Today I was sent a particularly harrowing update by Siraj, which is saying a lot considering the horrors that palestinians experience every day during this genocide. My birthday was a few days ago and to be honest I had no energy to celebrate it.

I feel so tired nowadays, that it seemed more like a bother than anything else. When I was talking to Siraj the next day, I told him about my birthday. I told him that it was a small affair and Siraj listened. He wished me a good year and a good life warmly, and then asked me why I didn't celebrate it grandly. He asked why was it such a muted and small thing, for he believes that everyone on tumblr, everyone who has spoken to him kindly, has heard him patiently, has posted and donated to him, deserves a celebration. He said and I paraphrase: in a world where the governments of the imperial core are considering a complete annihilation of my identity, of my humanity, of my life, the common people standing with me are my strength.

my friend siraj abudayeh (vetted on line 219), who i've posted about frequently, has been fundraising for his family's daily survival since june of this year. read more about him here, here, and here. follow him here: @siraj2024. he is a journalist who writes frequent updates about the situation in gaza, and it is always better to get the story from the source than filtered through a western lens.

as of about a week ago, he had raised over $90,000 CAD / $64,000 USD. he had withdrawn a portion of it to pay for various daily needs, medical care, and rent.

his fundraiser had been under investigation for a few weeks and the organizer, his cousin, even sent all of their government IDs to verify that they are real people.

despite this, gofundme deleted his fundraiser a week ago. he lost over $38,000 CAD ($27,000 USD). that is a monumental loss that would devastate anyone. but in gaza, it is the loss of a lifeline.

gofundme has a pattern of baselessly investigating and terminating fundraisers benefiting palestinians, often waiting until the campaign has reached the end of its goal to terminate it and refund all donors, leaving the refugees in the dust.

in the hopes of continuing to keep his family alive while unchecked capitalism and gang violence in gaza are on the rise, and in the midst of constant bombardment, displacement, and death, siraj has opened another gofundme. this fundraiser is in his sister's name, and is being organized by a trusted friend of his who lives abroad. we hope it will not be met with the same fate as the old one.

How has the Siraj family felt since the beginning of the war?

The feeling of loss from the martyrdom of their family and friends, the feeling of heartbreak, the feeling of hunger and thirst, the feeling of emerging from under death, the feeling of trembling fear, the feeling of waiting, for news of the missing, be it martyrs or prisoners, the feeling of losing your toil, your misery, and your dream, the feeling of displacement, the feeling of running at night from place to place when the order to evacuate the area suddenly comes, the feeling of illness and malnutrition, the feeling of thinking and anticipation, the feeling of alienation in your country, the feeling of attachment to places and people and after a short time leaving them, the feeling of heat and living in a tent that is a convection oven.

No matter how much the family talks about their feelings, they will never be able to fully describe the cruelty of what is happening.

This family needs escape this suffering, return to their normal, regular lives and rebuild their destroyed home.

If you're not aware, Siraj is a writer and journalist from Gaza, and is a father to three children. He lives in an unhygenic tent and has to walk three kms everyday just to get a stable internet connection.
