i didn’t understand the writers' intentions until ur interpretation here. ftr, i don’t think lucy was unsure about her decision-making when she approached tim at work with her new seth findings. i think, given her nonexistent TO training, she was unsure of her options. was there a punishment less severe than a washout for two infractions that come perilously close to perjury and/or fraud?

tim's response seemed so competitive, like he didn't wanna point lucy towards a solution so his rookie swims while hers sinks. (issuing two blue pages seemed more than reasonable to me.)

now i get why i’m so willing to attribute lucy’s behavior to her upbringing beyond my clear bias. she’s been fairly consistent throughout the show’s entire run, unlike current tim (S4+), who seems incapable of following through on ‘small doses’.

‘small doses’ can’t happen only at his convenience lmao??? him acting exasperated at the end as a person who’s tryna get his girl back was mad. the love of your life wants to talk to you at the end of a long day and still trusts you as a sounding board after you smashed her heart into smithereens and this is how you repay that loyalty? by acting like you don’t know how to–or worse, don’t want to–deal with her anxious (not clinical) energy…again...when you're more professionally experienced?! foundational tim (S1-S3) would never. 

tim hasn’t built up his account in lucy’s trust bank enough for me to comfortably support them getting back together officially so soon. but hey, girls need love too. i’m interested in what happens next week, but i'm losing patience. shit or get off the pot.

I just keep thinking about the two Chenford interactions we got this episode and how they rubbed me the wrong way.

The intention of Tim's actions felt correct but the way he expressed them felt...really off for what we're being told about his character arc.

The intention/outcome of both those interactions seemed to be focused on the idea of pushing Lucy towards taking ownership for her Rookie, making sure she is the one making decisions and not relying on her old mentor relationship with Tim to have him tell her if she's right or wrong. It's the right move, it's propelling her character out of feeling like the eternal student into someone who has authority and feels confident in her own judgements. So for Lucy's character great.

But for Tim's this reset back to season 3/4 colleague behaviour feels so out of touch with what was set up in season 6 and what Eric has said in interviews about Tim working on himself and trying to offer Lucy the 'small doses of kindness she'll allow' (a phrase I am starting to get pretty bloody sick of given how much it's been an empty statement). He should be attempting to branch the distance by actually verbalizing his improvement, not treating her like Angela one minute then making wistful puppy eyes at her the next. Like what those scenes should have had was Tim actually acknowledging that that is what he's doing- pushing Lucy to step into her new role without using him as a crutch. It should have been him stopping her and outright saying "I know you're used to coming to me as your old TO to help you make these choices, but as a TO yourself you need to be confident in making your own decisions. I want to support you, but the best move to make here is to step back and let you grow. If we're going to move forward as equals, I need to start treating you like an equal" (because tbh not treating each other as equals was a big part of their relationship breakdown)

I'm willing to accept Lucy's behaviour as at least being in character because to be honest Lucy is a bit of a 'go along to get along' personality, and she does often sacrifice her comfort to make social dynamics easier (hello emotionally abusing parents), and I do think we might be building towards her getting to put him in his place next episode, but Tim's behaviour seems pretty at odds with what they were setting up

We so happy to have you, and thanks for asking about things when you're unsure.

What you're talking about here is called (not-so-fondly) 'hijacking a post'. That can mean either using your re-blog to attack the OP (Original Poster)'s post or using your re-blog to just... say something completely unrelated. In either of these cases, if the hijack takes off, the OP is suddenly in the wildly upsetting position of getting hammered with potentially vicious reblogs that become totally out of their control. And that's a cruel thing to do to someone.

If you need to make your counter-argument, then use your own original post to do so, and tag it appropriately, so that the people who are interested can find it. (This does NOT mean tagging the OP.)

Now use your judgement, of course. The OP might be a mutual and y'all might have the kind of rapport where this is perfectly fine. Or you might be on a 'Yes, and' post where your random detour is appropriate and appreciated.

Mostly, just remember that you don't know anything about the OP, and err on the side of kindness. Then, hopefully, the community will treat you in the same way, and Tumblr stays fun and inclusive rather than toxic.

A good rule of thumb is to treat posts (whether they be random thoughts, art, fic, meta, etc.) like dishes at a potluck. If you don't like it, you don't shout about it, make a scene and cause that cook feel terrible... you just move on and sample the next one.

Remember to liberally use the 'Block' feature. It doesn't hurt anyone to do so (the blocked person/tag/phrase never even knows it) and helps your blood pressure and enjoyment.

Here's what I do that helps me get stuff done on time without stressing myself sick:

Split tasks up into their bare, basic components. Then, make a checklist of each component. Planners are my best friends, because I have an easier time remembering to do something if I write it down.

I find it a lot easier for me, motivation wise, to get through an essay by writing :

"do research/ find sources,

find quotations and create citations,

create an outline,

write paragraph (1,2,3, etc.),

edit rough draft,

create final draft"

because I can check off each little part and still feel like I'm making real, tangible progress vs. just putting down "turn in essay by (deadline)" in my planner.

Then, figure out what's the absolute *bare minimum* you need to do each day (or any other incriment of time that fits your schedule) to meet your deadline. Whatever it is, make sure to add an extra day or two as padding, so you can meet that deadline even if something comes up. Don't be afraid of asking for extensions or setting up accomodations. Be realistic with your limitations and time constraints.

For example: I have 5 hours of lecture I need to get through over Thanksgiving break to meet a deadline. Over 6 days, I need to watch at least 45 mins of a lecture each day. For me, 45 of lecture time is doable over a day because I know I dont have to do it all in one sitting. Realistically, I know it will take me anywhere from 1-5 hours to watch and take notes for these 45 minutes of lecture, because I am preemptively assuming I will need to take some breaks in between.

Breaks: when I get bored, I dont fight it. Instead, I take time to pivot. This is particularly helpful when I find myself doing something I have no interest in, and my brain does not for any reason want to let me do it. I take the time to scroll aimlessly, but also to get a drink/eat/use the restroom. I'm actually writing this while on a hw break right now. And when I get back from my break, all my stuff is in the same place where I left it at my desk, so I have a much better time easing my way into being productive again. If I still don't wanna work on what I was before, I start working on something relatively quick & easy from my to do list that I *do* want to do and ride the wave of productivity I get from finishing that.

The last part: reward yourself for the small victories. Yes checking things off a to do list is fun, but so are stickers. My planners are FULL of gold stars, smiley faces, and cute character stickers. There's a reason teachers use them, they are amazing motivators.

There's a bunch of adhd advice out there that's like "people with adhd tend to work better under deadlines due to the anxiety so here are ways to artificially induce a stress response in order to get you to get work done" and it's like well what if I don't want to be stressed out all the time in order to function

Pt 3, ensemble is at its loudest- andrew and riko. Riko reaches for his racquet, ready to bring it down on neils head but andrews there first and brings it down to break rikos arm. Music cuts before the long held notes and the sound of rikos scream is edited in, potentially overlayed with jeans laughter as he's watching from the dorm

Okay you know how the fan edits set to “We Both Reached For The Gun” from Chicago?? Imagine if we had video footage of the Foxes v Ravens final game and someone did a fan edit of Andrew and Riko to that song with their racquets??

They really do incentivize you to use the for you tab… they are going hard with the algo shit and not stopping. It’s addictive that’s why all these sites do it.

It’s a never evening stream of content. You can’t put your phone down. If you like a thing, u will get 800 posts of that thing to look at. If you like another thing u will get more, etc etc. It’s just like the “more like this” algo on pintrest. The more time u spend on here scrolling the more time you’re also looking at ads.

Tumblr is owned by automatic and gets pretty decent advertising deals.. I mean, I always see Pokémon go ads…. It used to be some weird janky bullshit but lately nah.

I cant stand these shill posts who go PLSSS BUY SUM STUPID CHECKMARKS TUMVLR IS DYINGGGGG. It’s literally not. They’re doing just fine and they just refuse to listen to their users in favor of what makes money. Go look at the comments in any of the posts from the changes blog. It’s always ppl begging they fix the same things every time.

Anyway. Algo ISNT going anywhere unfortunately. It’s the business model that gets you “hooked”. The internet is not for niche activity anymore unless you want to go back to individualized websites and forums.

This was almost the most ideal for fandom and artists I wish we never caved to social media just for clout. I’ve literally gained nothing from social media. It’s like playing the lottery. I get it. “Oh if I just keep posting some day the right person will see it and I’ll finally blow up!!” Ok even when you do “blow up” people only care about that post, not you or the rest of it. There is truly no gain in virality. All the “famous” influencers and artists are already industry pros or, plants. 🫧🪡 They already know the right people coming into it.

The only way to discover new blogs is to ditch “blogging” and just start a community from ground 0. Go on deviantart if you wanna see art. Go on forums if you wanna read about specific topics. It can’t all just be social media. This is why 00’s web worked so good. We had deviantart, 4chan, livejournal, MySpace, random webrings and forums, etc.

the "tumblr is hard to use 🥺" comment from staff is so funny bc like. its not untrue. but the solution isnt to make everything algorithmic, its to stop hiding the FAQ pages deep inside the site. just like. explain shit to new users. a concept. also obviously just fix the search function

Im obviously not Neil Fucking Gaiman but i did have to make a decision with myself last night at 10:30pm that, rather than try and force myself to write when i had written pretty much every day before then, it really wouldnt kill me to take one night off and get an actual 8 hrs of sleep and even though my friend tried to give me shit for "procrastinating" im going to say that spending a whole night playing solitaire was better for my brain than if i had tried to force myself to stare at 4 documents each with their own impending series of deadlines

Yesterday was a bad writing day. I spent a lot of time staring at a screen. Lots of Tumblr replies. Lots of Twitter (the Netflix Sandman trailer going out didn’t help). Lots of being grumpy at myself and convinced I couldn’t do it any more. The script was a mess. I was doomed. This morning I printed out what I had to fix, picked up a pen, made a few notes and started typing. It was fun and easy and straightforward. I finished it and sent it to the people who needed to see it, and just got an amazed call from our script editor saying she was laughing while crying and couldn’t work out how I’d done everything in a day.

And I hadn’t done it all in a day. All of the being miserable yesterday was necessary for it to fly today. All of the knowing it was insoluble and awful made the work today relatively easy. I had to get out of my own way, and had to read it freshly, without being attached to anything. And then I just did the notes. And to make the thing that worked today, a lot of stuff that didn’t quite work or sort of worked had to be written too. It’s always easier to fix stuff that exists.

Anyway. Yesterday = bad writing day. Today = good writing day. I thought it was worth telling people, in case there was anyone else out there who was having a bad writing day too.

this is basically what happened to Gisele, she just didn’t know the “spirit of Love” who’d been talking to her for her whole life was actually Hydaelyn until she died and met Her face to face...t.

Gisele constantly thought what she was being taught in the Circle was only half right at best because of Hydaelyn’s influence but learned pretty fast to keep her “no, actually....”s to herself and chalk it up to extreme sensitivity to the Fade and hyperaware perceptions of it

For anyone who’s never read this fic., please do!!! I absolutely love it. This is a fic. that’s stayed with me over the years. This is the one that I always find myself thinking back to, that my heart aches to re-read, and I remember when I first picked it up, I was drawn into it instantly because it was just so immersive. Dean and Cas are perfect. Their relationship is one that struggles, but they care so much for each other, and you find yourself eagerly waiting in anticipation for that moment where everything’s going to be okay again (and it comes and it’s SO good when it does). 

So don’t miss this one!!! It’s one of my absolute favourites, as I imagine it is for so many others, too.
