@shark-myths I had to think of The House on Rosewood Lane listening to this
Caroline Crampton's podcast is wholly wonderful, there are also a few episodes about queer themes in detective stories.
I can also wholeheartedly recommend her former podcast srsly - that takes all things pop culture seriously, with her colleague then from the New Statesman, Anna Leszkiewicz.

[ID: A collection of violent art of stick figures captioned "Me when" and followed by an excerpt from the transcript of Welcome to Night Vale episode 149 which reads:
But I can’t find anything that will fix this, I don’t know what else to do other than to just say "Trust me." I will start over. I will go to Rico’s on another first date, I will pretend to hear about your life for the first time. I will tell you all about mine for the thousandth time. It won’t be the same for me, but it will still be you. And that’s all that matters. You. You’re the one.
This must sound crazy. You barely know me and. I’m coming off as desperate, but it’s because I am. Please call me. End ID]

I am fucking going to write an analysis of every single sentence Michael says in mag 101. There’s just so much there.
The second last sentence of his statement. "Reduced once again to feeding on the unsuspecting and confused." You wouldn’t think twice about that, right?
But. Maybe i’m reading too much into this. But. The unsuspecting and confused. Isn’t that the definition of Michael Shelley??!!
It hated being reduced to doing this. What does that mean? It can’t have had pity for his victims, right? Probably not. I think it hated taking advantage of people like Michael Shelley specifically. Because now, with his memories, it knew what it was like to be him. And because it was feeling his emotions, it started to despise people like Gertrude, who took advantage of and betrayed naive, trusting people.
But… it was one of those things itself. Before becoming Michael, it had already fed on thousands, maybe millions of those people among all the others. And it had to continue doing so, because that’s just its nature.
It hated beings like itself because it had Michael’s mind. It also hated Michael’s mind. It hated having to be this kind of person. It hated being someone who hated what it was. God this is just a loop of self-hatred wtf? This creature needs a hug! Now!

I've been meaning to make this post for a few years now. After my experiences in the Army I was very keen on the idea of expansive public "tool libraries", inspired by the tool rooms and motor pools that I'd used to check out equipment and vehicles on an as-needed basis. It always struck me as a much better way to allocate things that were not needed by anyone all the time. I don't need a pruning pole saw every day, so why should I waste storage space on something that I'll only use for less than 2 weeks every year when I could simply sign one out from a local depot for such things when needed?
These podcasters fleshed out and expanded on that premise in a way that I can really get behind. If you dig into my #srsly wrong tag you'll find a few more good episodes. I highly recommend their interview with David Graeber, too, but I don't think they've done a truly bad episode.

it should've been there two days earlier and ten points merrier, but. everything after episode 40 is, y'know. not the most positive outcome.
however, we one hundred percent love John as a character and worry for him. have a quick fusion of both our designs. (and a small red thing which is whoever's you want it to be )

I already got attached to Arthur and Mr. Entity, specially after Arthur doing the whole thing with the wraith and the baby
*In Jon Sims voice* Good lord, can I stop getting attached to any (fictional) man who shows a small interest in taking care of a child???

me last autumn: tma is apparently the only thing that i can just like to a normal amount, and that's actually nice :D hyperfixations just take up too much time.
me now, having a sleep-deprived queer archivist and a what with long-ass fingers living in my brain (it's been weeks and they're not ready to move out): welp that didn't go as planned
