My favorite crimes Barbara Gordon has committed

Full disclosure, I am considering only New Earth Babs because the other versions are simply inferior. I will ignore the typical masked adventurer crimes she did as Batgirl, like assault, breaking and entering, trespassing, obstructing justice and vigilantism. I will also not really consider the very classic Oracle shenanigans like hacking, accessing some databases she probably shouldn't, stealing from rich criminals to fund her own (kinda criminal) operation, invading privacy and literally doing illegal spy work with Birds of Prey. Because those are boring and I want something that's not just another Tuesday. So, in no particular order:

Changing the light on traffic lights

Stupid and small but I love it. Very iconic and very Barbara-like.

I am not too sure about what happened leading to that moment. That comic didn't have a particularly strong story. I think Selina stole them while Barbara was still Batgirl?

Either way, the ending is pretty memorable for me. Ultimate irony - threatening her into returning stolen goods by stealing funds from her.

This one instance was because Steph just got shot in the head and didn't really want to end up in an ER where her mother worked, exposing her (third) secret identity. It worked out so yay?

Sort of kidnapping Wendy Harris

To be fair, she did it because Calculator, Oracle's arch nemesis and Wendy's father, was endangering her and she did it to protect her but a little more explanation couldn't hurt. But that wouldn't be Barbara without her genial tendency to keep everyone but herself in the dark. I guess she really did keep Wendy in the dark. In the basement.

We never get to learn what exactly she did. She just said that many leaders owe her their positions. it sure as hell doesn't sound legal. World-wide corruption? Why not. Entirely too much power for one person to hold. 10/10

Also, I bet you that those power grids aren't exactly controlled legally.

Blowing up a government facility and getting rid of some evidence

Well, Cass decided to break into a government facility and free a terrorist to prove a point that everyone can change. And in doing so she left them some photo, video and DNA evidence.

Oracle therefore later sent her back there to destroy it, blowing the building up in the process. Oh and she also presumably helped the guy get fake documents but that's not 100% confirmed (Cass said that it's from her friends as she gave them to him).

She really cares about her not-quite-daughter <3

[Batgirl (2000) #17]

Her father/uncle (the Gordon family was kind of a mess after Crisis) might be the commissioner of Gotham but she clearly doesn't respect the law in the slightest. They love eachother, of course, they just don't share the same views on the law.

I simply enjoy how unhinged her methods sometimes usually are and we need to recognise that. Also, while we are at it, get rid of Prime Earth Barbara's characterisation and bring back the competent and sarcastic control-freak.

you cannot compare natasha's character in the MCU and yelena's character in the MCU.

ever since thunderbolts* was released, i see people comparing natasha and yelena but these two are incomparable.

natasha was introduced in 2009 (a time, in which lots of female characters were badly written) whereas yelena was introduced in 2021 (a time, in which female characters are better written)

natasha was reduced to the 'sexy spy' trope. and rewatching mcu movies, her character feels like an afterthought. as if the writers never cared about her character in the first place but only included her to not get called sexist / misogynistic. i saw someone say that the writers didn't know what to do with her character but i believe they never gave a fuck about her.

almost no writer ever bothered to delve into her past / backstory. her motivations and goals as a character felt weak. i mean, natasha had the exact same storyline for over a decade (redeeming herself). all of her actions from iron man 2 to endgame are explained by her one and only storyline.

natasha was not a character. she wasn't even there for young girls or women. she was there so that grown men had something to look at (her suit never being zipped to the top, her smokey eyes and her hair always being down)

yelena, in comparison, is given different storylines. i have seen people say thunderbolts* is centered around yelena, meaning she (in comparison to natasha) is not sidelined.

yelena has clear goals and motivations. they don't feel like an afterthought to me at least. in addition, the writers delve into her backstory and at least try to give yelena some depth.

the difference? the mcu has writers, who genuinely care about yelena and her character. the writers treat her accordingly.

florence is doing that what scarlett never could. not because scarlett couldn't but because she wasn't allowed to. scarlett had to BEG for a black widow movie whereas male characters were given solo movies left and right but marvel didn't care. they never bothered to give their main female character a solo movie.

in my opinion, marvel gave fans a black widow movie to silence fans – not because they had a change of heart. (it's clear to me as they pay natasha dust ever since her movie.)

of course people enjoy yelena more. because the writers actually give a damn about her!

Presumably this is written the American Way (the writers are so american they make Scout and Sniper both call their mothers "mom" despite preferring "ma" and "mum" respectively, as shown previously SEVERal times), so Spy and Scout were arrested on

We can do a lot with this information.

Mann Co was taken over by Grey and Olivia half a month before this: roughly the 23rd of August

Contrary to popular belief, most of the comics have to take place in 1973! Seeing as 6 months after late August is late February.

This also means Scout had to have been born in 1946/7. Not sure about Sniper, I have yet to overanalyse the New Zealand timeline paragraph. I'll get to it eventually.

Medic implies in comic 6 that our mercs have worked together for "at least eight years", while talking about the lore breaking Demo eyeball halloween thing. Assuming the "at least" confusion is over the 1972 Halloween they missed while not working together, the Teufort Nine were hired in 1964.

(I've almost mentally rationalised the lore breaking eyeball as a thing they do at like 4am after regular Scream Fortress shenanigans. Almost.)

Scout claims he has known Ms Pauling for six years. During the War! update, Demoman is unfamiliar with Ms Pauling (he knows she works for the administrator, but thats it), so we can assume that is the point she started working more closely with the mercs, and also 1966/7

I really need to go back to actively working on my timeline instead of passively wondering at 11pm "hey what time of year is it in the comics" and going down a rabbit hole.

UPDATE! This post seems to be picking up reblog steam again, so now is a good time to say I was WRONG about the mercs being hired around 1964.

This blog post from 2009 claims the WAR update took place in 1962, meaning the mercs have to have been hired in early 1962 at the latest.

Seeing as Scout would have been 15/16 in 1962, and as that's kind of the youngest one can be hired for just about anything, I'd assume it actually is 1962 they were hired. Ok thats enough I just felt it was my duty as Person Timelining to update people on this Discovery.

Okay this is lowkey blowing up again and I just wanted to add that Valve themselves are not aware of the comics taking place in 1973. Idiots! This is why "7 years later" is 1979 instead of 1980 like it should be. Sigh.

A Book I Recently Read

"Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?"

Recently I watched Andor Season 2 which I very much enjoyed and it got me in the Stars Wars book reading mood. Andor is especially celebrated for telling a Star Wars story without telling a Star Wars story, in other words using different moods and themes to tell the story. For example, Andor is not a SciFi action fantasy typically attributed to Star Wars, but instead is a slow burn spy/political thriller. It's more akin to a Tom Clancy Jack Ryan movie than a Star Wars movie.

This got me thinking about a Star Wars book that really breaks out of the Star Wars mold. Long before Disney bought Star Wars there were many writers taking Star Wars into different directions, with varying results. Darth Plagueis was first published in 2012 after Disney purchased Star Wars however James Luceno began writing the story in 2009 so unfortunately it is not considered Disney canon but who cares.

Darth Plagueis, as the title suggests, is the story of Death Plagueis, the master and teacher of Darth Sidious AKA Palpatine. The book details the rise of Darth Plagueis after murdering his master, how he came to find the young teenage boy Palpatine, how he trained him, and the political machinations and schemes both used to essentially take over the galaxy. More over Darth Plagueis is the story of Palpatine, and his rise to power. If Andor is considered the prequel series that sets up the origins of the rebellion and the original trilogy, Darth Plagueis would be the "evil Sith counterpoint to Andor" that sets up the prequel series and the fall of the Republic.

Like I mentioned before, Darth Plaqueis is not your average Star Wars story. There aren't any big space battles, there's one very short lightsaber fight, and there's no grand clash of armies. Rather, it is a story of two Sith Lords living their alter egos. Darth Plagueis is also known as Hego Damask, who is a rich investor/banker/financier who uses his infinite wealth to fund business projects and business deals which benefit some planets at the cost of others, thereby sewing divisions among planets and factions. Darth Sidious, AKA Senator Palpatine is a Naboo Senator who uses his political power to likewise foster division among his constituency and erode their trust in the institutions of the Republic, while simultaneously maneuvering himself to higher positions of power. So yeah, no starfighter battles, grand clashes, and actiony lightsaber duels. Rather it is a story of politicians, wealthy corporations, lobbyists, spies, gangsters, lawyers, and assassins. What violence does occur is pretty small scale. Less blaster battles between clones and droids, more Sopranos-esque murders of important characters. Less duel of fates, more Red Wedding Massacres. If there's one quote that summarizes the theme of the book it would be, "remember that a cunning politician can wreak more havoc than a pair of Sith Lords with lightsabers."

And yes, the book ends with Darth Sidious murdering Darth Plagueis and taking his place as master. Spoilers but like, if you know Star Wars you know what's gonna happen. Regardless the ending where Palpy whacks Plaguey is an incredible twist ending that builds up well at the end of the story even though you as the reader are fully aware that it's certainly gonna happen before the final pages.

My only complaint about this book is that it seems too short. Most who criticize this book claim it's too slow, I feel the opposite. My edition is a mass market paperback (with small pages) that is 460 pages long. 460 small pages is too short a book to tell such a story. I think it should have been a series of three books, like the Darth Bane series. At the very least two books. A lot of events in the story seem rushed, like Palpatine's training for instance, or how Plagueis met Palpatine and turned him to the dark side. Some of their schemes I feel needed more time to gestate, and could have been fleshed out better. The story could have used more character development. I don't blame James Luceno, I'm sure he had to meet a page limit. I wouldn't even be surprised if he was made to chop the story down for brevity's sake so it could be sold as a mass market book.

Regardless it was a pretty good book, however due to it's length I think it could have been a fantastic book(s). I rate it 4/5.

It was early 2009, the era of Blackberry phones, MP3 players, and oversized school blazers. Mina, a high school junior, was on a school trip with her classmates, heading to a historical site outside the city. The bus ride had been loud, filled with chatter, camera flashes, and the occasional ringtone of "let’s go party" by 2NE1

Their bus came to a halt at a gas station for a short break, and students from different schools poured out, eager to stretch their legs and raid the small supermarket attached to the station. Mina, in desperate need of a snack, pushed through the crowd and entered the store. But just as she reached for a bag of chips, she froze.  

There, by the instant noodle aisle, stood her cousin—Jihyun. The one person she wanted to avoid at all costs. He was older, annoyingly nosy, and always had something to say about her life. If he saw her, he’d either start teasing her about school or try to embarrass her in front of her friends.  

Panicking, Mina did the only thing she could think of—hide.  

She swiftly ducked behind a stack of massive water bottles near the beverage section, hoping to make herself invisible. Just as she was crouching down, she heard a chuckle from above.  

Turning her head slightly, she saw a tall guy leaning against the shelf, watching her with amusement. He had shaggy black hair that fell over his eyes, a sharp jawline, and a lazy smirk playing on his lips. He was holding a bottle of soda, looking as though he had just witnessed the most entertaining thing ever.  

“Uh… what are you doing?” he asked, his deep voice laced with laughter.  

Mina pursed her lips, debating whether to answer or just ignore him. But she figured he had already seen too much.  

“I’m… hiding,” she admitted, peeking between the bottles to check if Jihyun had noticed her.  

The guy raised an eyebrow. “From who? A teacher? A stalker?”  

“My cousin.”  

He laughed, a rich, hearty sound. “That bad, huh?”  

Mina sighed. “You have no idea.”  

Instead of walking away, the guy crouched down beside her, his presence suddenly making the ridiculous situation feel less embarrassing.  

“Well, if you’re gonna hide, you need a better strategy,” he said, glancing around. Then, without warning, he grabbed a random magazine from a nearby rack and held it up in front of her face. “Here. Pretend you’re super invested in reading this. If he looks this way, I’ll block his view.”  

Mina blinked at him. “Why are you helping me?”  

“Because this is hilarious,” he admitted, grinning. “And because I feel like we’re in some kind of spy movie.”  

She let out a quiet laugh, relaxing a little. “What’s your name?”  

“Seunghyun. But my friends call me T.O.P.”  

Mina tilted her head. “That’s… a unique nickname.”  

He shrugged. “It’s a long story.”  

Before she could ask more, she heard her cousin’s voice getting closer. Mina tensed, gripping the magazine tighter. True to his word, T.O.P casually shifted his body, leaning against the shelf in a way that shielded her from view.  

After a few tense seconds, Jihyun walked past without noticing her. Mina let out a relieved sigh and turned to T.O.P with an impressed look.  

“Okay, I owe you one,” she said, standing up.  

“You can pay me back by telling me what school trip you’re on,” he said, stuffing his hands into his hoodie pockets.  

Mina furrowed her brows. “Why?”  

“Because I’m on one too.”  

Her eyes widened. “Wait… are you serious?”  

T.O.P pulled out his phone and flashed the itinerary on the screen. Mina stared at it, then pulled out hers. Identical schedules.  

“No way.”  

“Looks like we’re stuck on the same trip,” he said with a smirk. “Guess this won’t be our last meeting.”  

Mina didn’t know why, but something about the way he said that made her feel like this trip was about to get a lot more interesting.

in my idol dr, seven minutes to heavens variety shows arent just a show. its an experience. a social experiment even. you put fourteen delusional people with big ass personalities in a group, what else do you expect? imagine five minute arguments over nothing, random weird tangents and extreme unprofessionalism. and you best believe most of them have an intro sequence.

01. clean up on aisle 7

opening ; references to various spy media, including (but not limired to) archer (2009), charlies angels, james bond films, & austin powers.

basically an extremely over-the-top spy parody show. including physical, social and intellectual based challenges. the type of show where you wonder what exactly the budget is every episode.

02. business as usual

opening ; us posing to a house rmx of one of our songs, but its clear nobody knew exactly what to do.

the entire group participates in intellectual and charisma based challenges parodying running a business in semi slutty non-work appropriate self-styled outfits. random, chaotic events every few episodes to shake shit up. lots of backstabbing, manipulating, double crossing, subtle shade and playing dirty. filmed in the signature sitcom shaky camera style with a few talking head segments.

03. pillow talk

opening ; direct refrence to pillow talk (1959)

1960s themed. battle of the sexes heavy. on this show, the group does everything expected from a sleep over, but ofc bigger. including reenactments of our actual dreams, giving fans terrible advice on their irl drama, reading actual fanfic of each other aloud, competitive flirting and retelling pre-debut romantic / platonic drama.

04. 7 minutes to solve it

a random member is chosen as a “killer” and gets to orchestrate their own murder scene. the rest of the group has to solve it, while the killer saves face. if the killer gets caught the members get to choose literally any embarrassing punishment for him or her. all of this is done in costumes, a gimmicky set and a fake persona.

Say what you will about this man, but you cannot deny he's a great actor. Bro gives a 10/10 in every performance he's been in!

71: Into the Fire (2010)

A MUST SEE. If you ignore everything else on this list, this is the movie to see. 10/10 all around. This film is an amazing retelling of the true story of "71 undertrained and underarmed, outgunned student volunteer soldiers of South Korea during the Korean War." This is on the same level as Saving Private Ryan in terms of war movies. Seen it multiple times.

Tazza: The Hidden Cards (2014)

We got to see a topless T.O.P in this one! When will people learn that underground gambling is dangerous?

"After Ham Dae-gil enters the gambling world, he is set up as the fall guy in a crooked deal. To get revenge, he enters a final game which could be fatal to the loser."

19:Nineteen (2009)

You get both Sengri and T.O.P in this one. Fun fact, I didn't like him back then either. I remember when Hyunseung was a potential member and was bummed out that he got eliminated instead of seungri.

"The film follows three nineteen-year-olds, two boys and a girl, are accused of murder and forced to run away."

The Commitment (2013)

I remember being excited for this one because I was also a big fan of Kim Yoo-jung, although her role was pretty minor...minor in the way of acting not importance. T.O.P was 100% the focus and sometimes she felt like an after though. Like "oh yeh! I gotta save my sister!"

Secret Message (2015 mini tv series)

What's up folks? This is Ari. I just felt like sharing something that may be interesting. In regards to the V for Victory trope used in Spy vs. Spy, it started to get progressively used more often starting around the late 70s. In fact, it has been used in at least 90% of Kuper's strips once he took over as the illustrator and writer for the comics 28 years ago. Other than that, I had discovered that the very first time (or more accurately the first two) that trope was used was in two (I think) of the strips from The All New Secret Files of Spy vs. Spy (I could be wrong though), which was released back in 1965. It was later reprinted and rereleased as Danger! Intrigue! Stupidity! in 2009, in case some of you guys may not notice.

This was when Black Spy thought he defeated White Spy, (spoiler in progress) only for White to emerge from the missile (or bomb) and literally kick Black into the water.

Now this one here was where the V for Victory usage was legit for the first time in the franchise's run.
