Knightfall in Dream Land - Page 4
Meta Knight shares what it was like to grow up being raised by Nightmare.
#Kirby#Kirby fanart#my art#comic#Meta Knight#Nightmare#sorry this page took me so long to finish Iā€™ve been really busy with grad school stuff and was at a conference last month#but itā€™s finally here and page five shouldnā€™t take me as long to finish as this page did#the comic is mostly centered around the game lore and not the anime lore but I did borrow a little bit from the anime#this might be a dumb question but do any other Kirby fans have voice headcanons for the characters?#by voice headcanons I mean what do you think theyā€™d sound like if they had voiced dialogue#for Meta Knight and Dedede I think theyā€™d just sound like they do in the anime since those voices are so iconic lol#I know that Nightmare also speaks in the anime but I donā€™t really like his anime voice#Iā€™m showing that Iā€™m a Trekkie with this lmao but my voice headcanon for Nightmare is that heā€™d sound like Ricardo Montalban#Montalban died in 2009 but he was famous for playing Khan in Star Trek he was so good in that villain role#but that was in the 1960s and 1980s so if you arenā€™t a Star Trek fan you might not be familiar with him#he also plays the grandpa in Spy Kids though and I think he was also in Kim Possible#I actually see a lot of parallels between Kirby and Star Trek lol but maybe thatā€™s just me and no one else sees it#Iā€™m developing an idea for a Susie redemption arc comic that I want to draw when I finish Knightfall in Dream Land#and if I do eventually draw it itā€™s going to be very heavily influenced by Star Trek/there will be lots of Star Trek references in it#Planet Robobot as a game basically is just a Star Trek episode lmao it has the same plot as every Borg episode from Star Trek#so I think referencing Star Trek in a comic centered around Susie would make sense#Knightfall in Dream Land

Random sketch dump because (surprise, surprise) I like drawing Sid characters the most right now. Some good, some worse + having trouble figuring out a man's face, but I won't let that stop me <3

I love dates in the tf2 lore. I love knowing exactly when stuff happened. Which makes THIS THING I JUST FOUND a BEAUTIFUL MIRACLE
Tumblr media
You've seen this image before, but have you noticed the dates on the prison card thingies? Presumably this is written the American Way (the writers are so american they make Scout and Sniper both call their mothers "mom" despite preferring "ma" and "mum" respectively, as shown previously SEVERal times), so Spy and Scout were arrested on
The 7th of September, 1972.
We can do a lot with this information.
Mann Co was taken over by Grey and Olivia half a month before this: roughly the 23rd of August
Contrary to popular belief, most of the comics have to take place in 1973! Seeing as 6 months after late August is late February.
This also means Scout had to have been born in 1946/7. Not sure about Sniper, I have yet to overanalyse the New Zealand timeline paragraph. I'll get to it eventually.
Medic implies in comic 6 that our mercs have worked together for "at least eight years", while talking about the lore breaking Demo eyeball halloween thing. Assuming the "at least" confusion is over the 1972 Halloween they missed while not working together, the Teufort Nine were hired in 1964.
(I've almost mentally rationalised the lore breaking eyeball as a thing they do at like 4am after regular Scream Fortress shenanigans. Almost.)
Scout claims he has known Ms Pauling for six years. During the War! update, Demoman is unfamiliar with Ms Pauling (he knows she works for the administrator, but thats it), so we can assume that is the point she started working more closely with the mercs, and also 1966/7
I really need to go back to actively working on my timeline instead of passively wondering at 11pm "hey what time of year is it in the comics" and going down a rabbit hole.
Uh if you want to build off this, feel free to, but tell society twas I, the great and nobel Jevil_Owo, who first conceptualised all this.
UPDATE! This post seems to be picking up reblog steam again, so now is a good time to say I was WRONG about the mercs being hired around 1964.
Tumblr media
This blog post from 2009 claims the WAR update took place in 1962, meaning the mercs have to have been hired in early 1962 at the latest.
Seeing as Scout would have been 15/16 in 1962, and as that's kind of the youngest one can be hired for just about anything, I'd assume it actually is 1962 they were hired. Ok thats enough I just felt it was my duty as Person Timelining to update people on this Discovery.

a love letter to my favorite YA lit:
I'm relistening to the Beka Cooper audio books again (a yearly tradition at this point) and every time I hear the opening line of Mastiff, "We buried Holborn today," it takes me back to opening the e-book on my Nook the day it was released in my freshman year of high school and reading that line while sitting on the bleachers waiting for PE to start. I remember flipping back to the previous page to make sure this was the first chapter, thinking I'd never even heard of Holborn. I opened the Bloodhound e-book to compare the dates of her entries and realized the time skip was nearly two years, and got so excited to see what happened to Beka while we weren't with her. We walked the track that overcast day of PE in 2011 and I barely looked up from my Nook, so engrossed was I in Beka's story
that was the first Tamora Pierce book release I waited on; I found her books in probably 2009 and had read most of them by the summer of 2011. I pre-ordered Mastiff so it would be on my Nook as soon as it came out, but I was a freshman in high school and wasn't supposed to stay up till midnight, so I had to wait until the day to read it. it was nearly 13 years (and half my life ago) but here I am, still re-reading and re-listening to the Tamora Pierce books that got me through being a teenager. I remember sitting in my high school's library rereading their copy of Wild Magic over my lunch break to pass the time; drunk crying on the floor of my friend's dorm at a character's death in Terrier my freshman year of college (even though I'd read it 3 or 4 times at that point I always forgot); waiting in the lobby of the technology building of my college campus for my class to start with Spy's Guide on my lap after its release; sitting in my advisor's office in grad school flipping through Mastiff and Page and Lioness Rampant for quotes to include in my thesis; rereading Briar's book at the height of the pandemic. I have a tattoo of Lighting on my arm and a (very rough and needs to be redone) tattoo of Pounce/Faithful on my calf and I genuinely don't think a day has gone by in over a decade where I haven't thought about Tamora Pierce books
the world of Tortall (and Emelan, to a lesser extent) has shaped me, and although this is an attempt to pin it down, I will never be able to explain how much these books mean to me. I know that I may love other series and worlds (I'm currently reading some Terry Pratchett, for example), but they will never make an impact on me in the same way that Tortall and all its various characters has, and that's fine by me
and yet, through all of it, I will never, ever be ready for The Thing We Don't Talk About in Mastiff, not now at a dozen rereads and not in another 13 years

It's common knowledge that Paul Gross's wife Martha Burns plays the Russian spy Nadia in "Spy vs. Spy", but there's another married couple in that episode that at least I hadn't heard of before: Mort and Ruth! Here are some photos of Jan RubeÅ” (1920-2009) and Susan Douglas RubeÅ” (1925-2013).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The above pics are from the 1980s - here are a couple of much older photos: Jan perhaps in the 1950s/60s and Susan probably in the late 1940s or early 1950s. They got married in 1950.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Jan Rubes was an opera singer, so no wonder Mort was singing all the time in the morgue - even when we first meet him in "Mountie and Soul", we hear his singing before we even see the guy!
I leave you with this photo of Jan from 1971 when he was directing a children's play, because, you know: "Fishing is ridiculous!" I so wish there had been more episodes with Mort, he's one of the absolute best recurring minor characters in the entire show.

What made Geno your fave?
Oh boy!
For background, I started watching hockey in fall of 2009. I was bored over the summer and decided to get into a new sport. Iā€™d never cared about hockey because my family didnā€™t follow it (we are football and basketball people), so I had no particular team I had allegiance to, so I did what any reasonable prospective fan would do: I looked up the most recent championship team and scanned their roster for hot guys.
There was Sid, of course. About my age, captain, and oh heā€™s cute, ok I can work with that. I did some research on his story and found it fascinating, because who doesnā€™t love a good golden boy narrative? A promising start.
Jordy Staal was also really cute to me, and Flower was pretty. And then we got to Geno, who the first picture I really remember seeing of him is one where he was smiling big, and as we all know he has the BEST smile.
After that, his backstory was just as interesting to me as Sidā€™s, in a totally different way. I mean, it sounds like a spy thriller, right? Itā€™s crazy. And then he won the MVP that playoffs, and the highlights were up on YouTube, and wow, look at him skate. Look at him and Sid skate together, wow theyā€™re so good. Look how Geno spins and cuts through guys out there, look how quick he is, how fast his hands are moving the puck.
I knew fuck-all about what I was watching but his skating style is so distinctive that I was able to pick him out on grainy 2009 and earlier footage with ease; let me tell you, focusing on ONE player for a full game or even period is such an underrated way to learn the sport. You see what they do when they donā€™t have the puck and it helps you figure out strategy, how plays develop, what defense is. Highly recommend.
He was still pretty quiet with the media then and I donā€™t think he was on Twitter yet, but he seemed funny and cute and I really liked his accent! And all the guys seemed to be friends, and I love that in a sports team.
It was summer so I watched a lot of the Pensā€™ old YouTube features. I learned about Mario and Jagr and the first set of back to back cups, and Sidā€™s draft, and how the team almost left the city. I learned about the rivalries with other teams, and the way the league worked, and what a salary cap is, and all the different penalties. And as it got closer to the start of the 09-10 season, I watched the road to the cup video for the run Iā€™d just missed (itā€™s on YouTube now!) and there was that shot of Geno looking up, you know the one, with his scar, and that was my tipping point. The coverage of him in the Carolina series just sealed it.
He fascinates me. Heā€™s shy but loud, funny but so publicly emotional. Heā€™s flawed as hell but he tries so hard. Heā€™s arrogant but he deserves to be, and heā€™ll never ever allow anyone to give him credit for when heā€™s playing well, he deflects. Heā€™s accurately predicted the future twice. Heā€™s so loyal itā€™s to the point of folly, almost. He has an unbelievable smile and rescues alley cats and is scared of big dogs. Heā€™s a bully whoā€™s never met a charity he didnā€™t contribute to.
And holy shit can he skate. Holy shit does he play beautiful, brutal hockey. Heā€™s vicious with his stick and graceful with his hands.
And, yeah, heā€™s hot. Thatā€™s important to me too and Iā€™m not sorry about that!
Anyway, I like him a lot. Thanks for sending me this ask and letting me talk about why :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROLINE MUNRO!Ā
Caroline MunroĀ (born 16 January 1949 in Windsor, Berkshire) is a British actress and model best known for her many appearances in science fiction and action films of the 1970s and 1980s. According to Munro, her career took off in 1966 when her mother and photographer friend entered some headshots of her to Britainā€™sĀ The Evening NewsĀ ā€œFace of the Yearā€ contest.
Tumblr media
ā€œI wanted to do art. Art was my love. I went to Art School in Brighton but I was not very good at it. I just did not know what to do. I had a friend at the college who was studying photography and he needed somebody to photograph and he asked me. Unbeknownst to me, he sent the photographs to a big newspaper in London. The famous fashion photographer, David Bailey, was conducting a photo contest and my picture won.ā€Ā
Tumblr media
This led to modelling chores, her first job being forĀ Vogue MagazineĀ at the age of 17. She moved to London to pursue top modelling jobs and became a major cover girl for fashion and TV ads while there. Decorative bit parts came her way in such films asĀ Casino RoyaleĀ andĀ Whereā€™s Jack?Ā (1969). One of her many photo ads got her a screen test and a one-year contract atĀ ParamountĀ where she won the role ofĀ Richard Widmarkā€™s daughter in the comedy/westernĀ A Talent for LovingĀ (1969).Ā
Tumblr media
1969 proved to be a good year for Munro, because it was then that she began a lucrative 10 year relationship withĀ Lambā€™s Navy Rum. Her image was plastered all over the country, and this would eventually lead to her next big break.
Tumblr media
Hammer FilmsĀ CEOĀ Sir James CarrerasĀ spotted Munro on aĀ Lambā€™s Navy RumĀ poster/billboard. He asked his right hand man,Ā James Liggett, to find and screen test her. She was immediately signed to a one-year contract. Her first film for Hammer proved to be something of a turning point in her career. It was during the making ofĀ Dracula AD 1972Ā that she decided from this film onward she was a full-fledged actress. Up until then she was always considered a model who did some acting on the side.
Tumblr media
A string of fantasy and horror roles followed, including starring turns inĀ Captain Kronos: Vampire HunterĀ (1973),Ā The Golden Voyage of SinbadĀ (1974),Ā At the Earthā€™s CoreĀ (1976),Ā Ā The Spy Who Loved MeĀ (1977),Ā StarCrashĀ (1978),Ā ManiacĀ (1980),Ā The Last Horror FilmĀ (1982),Ā FacelessĀ (1988), andĀ The Black CatĀ (1989).
Tumblr media
By the 1990s Munro had decided to focus more on her family, daughters,Ā GeorginaĀ andĀ Iona, and husbandĀ George Dugdale. However, since 2003Ā CarolineĀ has renewed her interest in acting and has appeared in a number of film and audio productions. Since 2021Ā CarolineĀ has been presenting the hit television seriesĀ The Cellar ClubĀ forĀ Talking Pictures TV.
Tumblr media
The titleĀ First Lady of FantasyĀ was given toĀ CarolineĀ by journalistĀ Steve Swires, who wrote manyĀ StarlogĀ andĀ FangoriaĀ (@FANGORIA) articles on the actress in the 1980s and 1990s.Ā
Tumblr media
Happy Birthday Caroline!
Official Website:Ā Ā http://www.CarolineMunro.org
Representation:Ā Thomas Bowington/Bowington Management
Some of her credits include: Dracula AD 1972Ā (1972),Ā Captain Kronos: Vampire HunterĀ (1973),Ā The Golden Voyage of SinbadĀ (1974),Ā At the Earthā€™s CoreĀ (1976),Ā The Spy Who Loved MeĀ (1977),Ā StarCrashĀ (1978),Ā ManiacĀ (1980),Ā The Last Horror FilmĀ (1982),Ā FacelessĀ (1988),Ā The Black CatĀ (1989),Ā Flesh for the BeastĀ (2003),Ā TurpinĀ (2009),Ā Midsomer MurdersĀ (2013),Ā The LandladyĀ (2013),Ā Crying WolfĀ (2015),Ā VampyresĀ (2015),Ā Cute Little BuggersĀ (2016),Ā FrankulaĀ (2017),Ā End UserĀ (2018),Ā House of the GorgonĀ (2019),Ā The Haunting of Margam CastleĀ (2020), Ulalume - A Ballad (2023), The Pocket Film of SuperstitionsĀ (2023), and the upcoming The Presence of Snowgood (2024).

Colin Firth
My first unhinged project involved watching all of Colin Firth's IMDB acting credits, to see how often he got wet.
Figured I'd make a master list of the posts I made. I didn't make a post on everything, so if there's one without a link you can always request to hear my thoughts hahaha
I also made a post about his hair choices, because he does a lot of period pieces and oh boy do I often have Thoughts
And here's a post about how his trend of getting wet changed our perception of Darcy forever

Note
Most of the time people aren't even like "they aren't related in my au owo", they'll actually tag it with "parent/child incest" and quite often go out of their ways to be even more gross by infantilising the fuck out of Scout, either by making him act a lot more naive/childish or by making him younger. I haven't even read any of these but the descriptions are really telling.
Put the ship name for Spyscout on the poll so people can block it. I think cloak and batter is one version of the ship name?
I never keep track of their ship names because ew but I remember "seduce me" was one of them. You're probably right about "cloak and batter" tho, and "scoutspy" would probably be another one.

Talk to us about peachbuds šŸŽ¤šŸŽ¤šŸŽ¤ (swk and macā€™s 2009 version) idk how they end up just that they are also tragic
ok so first off you can watch Monkey King (2009) here where itā€™s been subtitled in English by the loveliest of fans (bc the show is only out in Mandarin). they have been in a hiatus for a couple years bc there was some issues on finding a beta-reader to help with the translations (HOWEVER IT LOOKS LIKE THEY UPDATED A LOT MORE EPISODES SINCE THEN SO CATCH ME WATCHING MORE OF THIS LATER LMAO)
anyway: Peachbuds šŸ˜
so itā€™s the ship name between Shihou/Sun Wukong and Liuā€™Er who are the best of friends during Wukongā€™s origins. you will also notice that a lot of Mackyā€™s designs in lmk fanart with his ears as well as the drawings of him with white fur, do take inspiration from this show. either bc people watched the show growing up or found it through their lmk pipeline
so Liuā€™Er was a macaque already in this monkey/simian troop of Flower Fruit Mountain. is also on the younger side of the troop (think adolescence) and is close with the then Monkey King. so that is him home. he was part of them long before Wukong/Shihou joined them.
he also likes to prove himself as being someone next in line for the Monkey King throne. something the Grandpa Monkey King encouraged but the monkey generals always denied. they tend to look down on Liuā€™Er because of his youth and feel that it should be one of them who takes over after the Monkey King (tho they squabble amongst each other too much)
thatā€™s how he even met Shihou because he wanted to prove himself and show that the magic rock he found was real. he is also one of the only monkeys who doesnā€™t find Shihou off putting or creepy (sometimes annoyed since Shihou never learned any etiquette). the only other monkey who finds potential in Shihou is the old Monkey King
Shihou (which means stone monkey) really does want to fit in with the troop and finds himself in a very similar position Liuā€™Er was in with the generals. only, instead of them just not taking Liuā€™Er seriously, they find Shihou to be a bad omen or a spy (bc he hatched the same day the Monstrous King of Havoc decided to crash their party)
so now itā€™s Shihou trying to prove himself bc he wants to make friends and Liuā€™Er and the old Mobkey King are so kind and the jungle is not friendly to those on their own. however, unlike Liuā€™Er constantly trying to prove himself and going unheard, Shihou does get heard and peopleā€™s respect for him rises
which leads us to Liuā€™Erā€™s jealousy. all Liuā€™Er has wanted was to be respected and one of the ways he knew the generals would finally respect him was if he took the throne. he even has a vision (or heard??? idk magic ears you know the drill) of himself obtaining. but then literally the next day, the vision switches to him watching Wukong rush past him to the throne (the, uh, Monkey King got sick and Wukong found the cure before Liuā€™Er. itā€™s a whole thing where Shihou wonā€™t say where the cure is bc he promised but Liuā€™Er thinks Shihou wants to take his glory)
anyway, uh the jealousy eventually leads to Liuā€™Er throwing away their friendship the second the Monkey King announces Shihou as his successor. he argues against it and tries to place doubts for him even being qualified (i am NOT over it) and woopsie-daisy! he got got in a evil plot and is slowly getting possessed yayyyyyyyyyyy šŸ«

I know fuck all about tf2 except for character names. Most I got is you and a few other mutuals posts, and they're 10/10. How does the game..... work exactly? Like is there plot? Is it first person shooter sort of thing? Is there a tf1?
I could google it but that's not nearly as fun
OH BOY GET READY FOR THE B I G R AM B L E
WHAT THE FUCK IS TF2?
It's a team based first person shooter published by Valve (of portal and half life fame) in 2007 with nine classes to choose from, each with strengths countered by other classes (for example, the Spy is often a counter against the Sniper and Engineer. Respectively, by picking off the Sniper with a quick, stealthy backstab or by destroying the Engineer's machines). The game has been free to play since 2009 (i think. grain of salt please), and has a healthy playerbase to this day, aside from the bots. But not every tf2 fan actually plays the game. I play sometimes, but mostly just rotate the characters in my brain like a microwave burrito.
It is ALSO, however, a multimedia franchise. Aside from the game, which shows off worldbuilding and characterization through the environment and character dialogue (as well as the update announcement flyers on the official blog), there are also animated shorts and comics created by Valve that further flesh out the world and characters of TF2. Frankly, I think you should give the Meet The Team shorts a go if nothing else. They're iconic. It's hard to pick favorites, but I'm partial to Meet the Medic (obviously), Meet the Engineer (which I can quote verbatim), and Meet the Sniper.
Broadly, the world and aesthetics of TF2 are based on 60's/70's cold war thrillers and spy movies. Think James Bond and the Manchurian Candidate. These impeccable vibes are then wrapped neatly in a cartoony artstyle that wasn't common at the time (and arguably still isn't. I'm pretending that fortnight doesnt exist, as is custom). On a related note, the soundtrack FUCKS SEVERELY. Like. They just DO. They have influence from Jazz, Funk, and miltary marching songs, with more specific influences for individual characters (ex: country western for engineer, polka for medic, and bagpipes for demoman)
An important thing to note is that every class is a play on some stereotype from the movies that inspired the vibes:
Heavy Weapons Guy is a husky ruskie and a man of few words, but he has hidden depths. He's a family man, most importantly, and has been supporting and protecting his mother and younger sisters since his father was killed when he was a teenager. He has a close bond with the Medic and speaks highly of the Engineer ("Engineer is credit to team!"). In a debatably canon piece of dialogue from TellTale's Poker Night At The Inventory, he is revealed to have a PhD in Russian Literature.
Engineer is a texan with 11 PhDs in hard science. He exudes southern hospitality and seems like the most sane man on the team. He also takes great joy in the death and destruction his weapons cause, and ALSO helps the Medic in performing deeply unethical experiments that go against the laws of nature for curiosity sake. He's the third in a line of engineers, btw, and his grandfather basically conquered death. Which isn't super relevant, but I feel is a good lead in to some of the wackier elements of this world I would like to mention.
And every character is like this to some degree. Some more so than others- Soldier is basically just "how american can a man be before it starts impacting his mental health" and Pyro is unknown in terms of nationality, gender, and background
TF2 has a plot by the way! Yes, there is a reason for these many dudes in funny hats to be fighting. They are fighting over gravel. Yeah. So, these two brothers are fighting over land willed to them by their father (who died in the 1890's) which is largely useless aside from having a lot of gravel. Their names are Redmond and Blutarch Mann, and they're the ceos of their own corporations. Reliable Excavation & Demolitions (RED) and Builder's League United (BLU) respectively. They each hired mercenaries to fight a proxy war for them with the goal of owning it all. All the while, a third party, The Administrator, has been playing both sides of the Gravel War to keep it going as long as possible. Why? It's a mystery...
RAPID FIRE TF2 WORLDBUILDING BULLSHITTERY BE UPON YE:
(most of this is just stupid shit that was made up for Pure Random Funny HaHa and has very little bearing on the plot, but tells you a LOT about the tone of the franchise)
Rocket Jumping (that is, shooting a rocket propelled grenade at your feet and crouch-jumping at the same time to launch yourself into the air) was a technique pioneered by Shakespearicles, the STRONGEST POET TO EVER LIVE. He also invented the concept of a Second Floor in a building
Btw, stairs were not invented when the second floor was invented. I want you to take a wild guess how people got to the second floor before stairs were invented. (hint: it involves explosives)
Stairs were invented by Abraham Lincoln. He died due to rocket jumping up said stairs which caused him to accelerate rapidly into a wall. He was also the first Pyro in the 1890s.
New Zealand sank below the ocean sometime in the 40's. By which I mean it was intentionally sank because a Jor-el knockoff believed that the world was ending and that going underwater was the only way to save the nation.
CisMpreg exists. This fact is Medic's fault.
OK But What About Team Fortress 1?
So, its. Not complicated but it's not exactly simple. Quick answer, the original TF game has nothing to do with TF2. Team Fortress was originally a mod for the game Quake and has the same basic gameplay premise as it's successors (team based FPS with 9 classes) and quite a few maps have actually been remade for TF2. It was released in 1996, so, as TF2 was taking A Very Long Time to complete, Valve released a sort of... updated version that was meant to hold fans over. It uses the half life 2 engine, I believe, and was released in 1999. It is called Team Fortress Classic and it's only a LITTLE confusing to research I swear.
TFC takes place in the same universe as TF2, but in the 1930's instead of the 60's. Ignore the scifi/modern looking tech. Don't worry about it. This has no bearing on TFC, really, because it was only confirmed in one of the comics released in 2014. The TFC team matters to the comic plot, but is otherwise kinda just. there. Like, they only exist in the Mann Co No More story line and otherwise just exist.
Fun fact: TFC (the game) was updated to change the ingame class models to more accurately represent the appearance given to them in the comics.
For example, look at the glow up given to the TFC Medic! (original on the left, updated on the right)
Tumblr media
In Conclusion:
I will be surprised anyone actually reads all of this, but that is my rambling summary of what in the fuck TF2 is. To be fair, the game is richly detailed but also kinda sparse at the same time. Its all vibes and interpretation my dude. Honestly I think what has made TF2 so popular and long lasting (lore wise) is related to what early FNAF games had going on
