So like we all know that most of the side characters in HP weren’t fully fleshed out and left a lot of questions (especially pivotal side characters) and this is for a LOT of reasons. Mainly cause the series is in Harry’s POV.

This gives Fanfic writers so much wiggle room to develop those characters and I love it!

So today I wanna talk about Percy Weasley and a thought I had that was spurned on by some recent HC from other mutuals on here.

So we’re all coming to the conclusion Percy would straight up do something illegal, get away with and never be suspected (only by Arthur cause he KNOWS his son) 10000%

This is my theory about canon book Percy (not fanfic) just by what little we know.

Recap: he was a described as straight laced, worked in the ministry as the right hand to the Minister (high freaking up in the food chain), ambitious, and he “turned against his family” before “coming home” and fighting alongside his family in the battle of Hogwarts.

But what if he didn’t? Didn’t turn against his family all along?

What if he too (like Snape) was a spy in the ministry?

He’s seen as so rigid and straight laced that he’d never be suspected as being defiant. So what if he used that and his ambitious and cunning mind to be the inside right hand of the Minister of Magic?

Parallel to Snape’s role as Nose-less lunatic’s right hand and covert spy.

And the only one to ever know to ever suspect… was his father.

Because Arthur was his handler/contact to the Order?

As another ministry employee, Arthur would be able to talk to Percy no questions asked. And as his father he’d only be okay with his child being a spy and keeping it a secret from his wife if he could watch out for him.

Hi again!! I have another question and hope to not bother you but I was reading this fic right and in the comments they were people complaining about how the author portrayed the sects in Sunshot Campaign winning when Wei Wuxian was not in the equation. The author very adamantly stated that the sects were going to win anyway because and I quote “WWX didn't have to join the Sunshot Campaign. They were already winning by the time he participated it is stated in CH 61. They also say that Lotus Pier was also claimed back by Jiang Cheng without the help of Wei Wuxian.

I found this argument intriguing because one person in the comments went back and forth with the commenter saying that Wei Wuxians cultivation is what handed them the win but the author fired back saying that NMJ was the powerhouse behind the sects winning

“I'm sure WWX contributed to the war effort, but 'WWX won the war for everyone' or even the idea that they would've lost without WWX is not what I got from any of this.

NMJ was the muscle behind Sunshot. More from Chapter 48 below. And it was obviously because of spy JGY. So yes, it was 3zun! If NMJ is out there winning nearly every battle, I fail to see how 'Sunshot was losing.”

I want to know your thoughts on this if you can!!

I answered a similar ask here but I think the author of whatever fic you read is conflating the answers of two different questions. Question 1: Could the Sunshot Campaign have won without Wei Wuxian? Possibly, but we don't have enough info from canon for a definite answer because Wei Wuxian joined in 3 months into a war that ended up lasting 3 years. If they did win, though, it would have been the destruction of all cultivation clans in the story, because the QishanWen, alone, had the same amount of cultivators as the rest of the rebelling clans combined, let alone counting allies. The body count of a war without Wei Wuxian would've been devastating. Question 2: Did the Sunshot Campaign in canon succeed without Wei Wuxian's contribution? Absolutely not. Once again, the man killed FIVE THOUSAND CULTIVATORS by himself.

No cultivator on the Wen side met him in battle and lived. The Wen in the labor camp only knew who Wei Wuxian was because of hearing tales about Chengqing's appearance. They didn't even know what he looked like! For the writer to argue that Wei Wuxian's presence was negligible based off a throwaway letter from Wen Ruohan 3 months in when he still considered the clans allied to the Sunshot Campaign "nuisance rebels" is wild levels of cope. If the Sunshot Campaign was "already winning" before Wei Wuxian joined, then why did they take another almost 3 years to end the war? Why doesn't Nie Mingjue boast a body count of FIVE THOUSAND CULTIVATORS? Why is Wei Wuxian the Wen cultivators' boogeyman?

Also, that part about Lotus Pier tells me everything I need to know about the writer and their hilariously incorrect beliefs about the war. Wei Wuxian singlehandedly liberated the Yunmeng region. All Jiang Cheng did was chase Wei Wuxian's shadow and observe the aftermath of his handiwork. But the writer obviously has an issue with Wei Wuxian as a character being so powerful without need of others, so suddenly it's "Jiang Cheng won back Lotus Pier alone" despite showing up only after every Wen cultivator was killed, and "Wei Wuxian didn't actually win anyone the war" despite him having the explicitly stated and infamously known biggest war contribution in the entire novel.

Okay, but for all the debate you could have about who's the better spy, it would be funnier to pick Owen.

His story is that he was one of the best spies in the world... until he got badly injured on a mission because of the recklessness of Curt, his partner - both professional and romantic, secretly because it was the 1960s - and then Curt - again, his boyfriend, the love of his life - left him for dead assuming he already was. And because Curt had insisted on blowing the building up, he was probably injured more by the explosion and debris. So he's in a really bad state, physically and mentally.

And he concludes from this hugely traumatic experience that the current system of having spies, who are flawed, fallible, unpredictable individuals, be the only thing between the masses and various evil and/or destructive forces is kind of stupid and bad and just gets more people hurt than it helps. He becomes utterly disillusioned with the intelligence organizations and their ideals. They betrayed him. Curt betrayed him. So he betrays them right back. He joins a developing evil crime syndicate and plots to take over the world with advanved survellaince technology that will make spies the people, as a concept, obsolete. The internet, essentially. He wants to make the internet in the 60s run exclusively by bad guys and obliterate privacy. He does a lot of awful things in a new identity, including copious amounts of murder, aiding Nazis and torturing Curt who believes that he's dead, all so that "there won't be any [intelligence] agencies" anymore.

He. Hates. Spies, at least in their traditional form. He scorns and looks down on everyone else in this poll.

Please, please vote for this dead love interest/messy tragic villain because he would hate to win. He does not want to be competing, he has much better things to do, and it would rub salt in his wounds to be celebrated specifically as a servant of the institution he not only disowned, but actively strives to kill. And what is Tumblr good for if not torturing fictional characters?
