i love finding out how big this world is. my girlfriend has only visited boston a handful of times, but i grew up here. i told her we'd be going to do the tourist traps in salem, and she said - which salem?

to be fair to her, there are a lot of other states that have a town named "salem." and i think there's some evidence that the witch trials actually happened in what is now called Danvers. but the thing is - she thought "salem" was like, a made-up thing. there wasn't actually a salem, massachusetts - like there isn't a gotham city.

they don't talk about it that much where she grew up, is the thing! and this made me laugh. a week ago she was talking about her hometown and said something akin to "well the museum's kinda like the one in richmond," and i had to explain i still had no frame of reference for what the hell this museum was like.

i love finding out what knowledge i take for granted. i used to live with 5 other women. 3 of them were from south korea. they had to take, like, a solid fifteen minutes to explain their birthday system to my gay math-blind ass, laughing as they did.

that same month, our roommate from denmark taught me the danish word for wreath by accident - she'd been talking about decorations, used krans, and i'd been able to figure it out through context. i just picked it up and kept talking. our entire house used krans as the word. she came home and slammed the door one evening, mock-angry, shouting: you motherfuckers! it's a - a wreath!

and how often do you use certain words, anyway! i am cuban, so i was raised with certain spanish words sort of sprinkled in there; but never how you'd think. in middle school i asked someone to pass me the recogedor - in a completely american accent, like i was speaking english. i hadn't registered it as a spanish word. i mean, how often in school do you actually use the word "dustpan" - i'd only ever heard it in the context of cleaning my house.

there are places that you grew up that you, just, like, know. that you assume everyone knows. there are things and people and "common knowledge" that you have that, just, like. doesn't exist for me. i don't know what you call your public transportation system, but in boston we call it "the T". our train cards are called charlie cards because of a song where a father accidentally abandons his family, which was written because our system of transportation. in boston, most people would snort and say everyone knows that, kid.

i think you and i should go on a long walk - it's getting dark early these days and we need any sun we can manage. tell me about the first time you saw snow. tell me about the stuff everyone knows about your home. tell me about the cities "everyone's been to," about the food "everyone's already tried." who knows. maybe it will feel nice to you - watching someone learn about it for the very first time.

There's a word for this season—that in-between time when winter hasn’t fully let go, but spring is just beginning to take hold. The sun warms our skin, yet there’s still a lingering chill in the air. That word is Primaveral, meaning the very first stirrings of spring, the moment when the world is caught between two seasons, shifting but not quite settled.

anyways i love how most fish out of water stories for boys is because theyre sons of god or smth but when it comes to girls it’s because theyre actually the spawn of the devil like😭

thinking about kevin day playing his last ever exy game before retiring.

the final whistle sounds and he takes off his helmet as his teammates pat him on the back or ruffle his hair as a show of support, a way to say: hey. good job. you did well. this was fun.

kevin returns their touches and quick words with a nod or a smile that’s supposed to say “thank you.” he will get a chance to speak to his teammates in a more private environment later (he just hopes he will be able to find his words again by that time). what he does realise is that he won’t get a chance to get his fans like this another time— cheering his name while he’s standing on the court.

he makes his way to the benches and carefully places his helmet and gloves on the bench. he still carries his exy stick with him as he’s not yet ready to let go off that.

he’s still standing on the court, but now he’s facing his fans, instead of facing the opposite goal, and they all cheer and clap for him. kevin waves at them and smiles up to them as they sing a goodbye chant. he claps as the fans finish up and they voice one last uproar.

then kevin turns around to face the fans of the opposite team and they all stand and cheer as the kevin day takes his leave for the last time off the court. the whole stadium is filled with the sound of cheering fans— and it’s not just from the team he’s representing, but also from the opposite team. he looks up to them— not yet ready to leave the court, but also realising he can not stay here forever.

he grabs his helmet and gloves again. faces the crowd one last time and puts his stick in the air as a sign of thank you, for he cannot speak to all of them now— he will have to safe his words for the press.

and as he takes his leave of the court his ears are filled with a full stadium clapping and cheering, for they’ve seen kevin day play for the last time ever.

thinking about arranged marriage between kujou sara and kamisato!reader.......... sara, seeing for the first time what a family is really like when you both make the trip up to the kamisato estate. you make an effort to include her in your conversations, and though she’s a little awkward, she tries. takayuki had never allowed her to play with her adoptive siblings or any of the other kujou soldiers—roughly grabbing her by the arm so tightly she remembers tears stinging her eyes as he ranted to her about how she should not let such pointless things get in the way of her duty. but as she watches you mess around with your brother and lightheartedly tease your sister, she can’t help but think this is the furthest thing from pointless.

(an unfamiliar ache blooms in her chest; is this longing?)

sara, sharing a meal with someone for the first time. she’d been so, so isolated as a child, and even as a general, held to some impossible standard that no other mortal could reach. but you are her wife—her equal. so you sit next to her as you have breakfast, and you sit next to her again as you have dinner. you talk about the weather, about your brother, about your sister, about your work, and sara listens. she doesn’t hang on to each of your words; no, she cradles it tenderly against her chest, holds it in her battle-hardened hands and cherishes it.

(these are the words you only say to her. this is hers.)

sara who is so unbelievably touch-starved she doesn’t even realise it. her heart leaps into her throat the first time you take her hand in your own as you both stroll down the streets of hanamizaka on one of her rare days off—kamaji had to practically force her to take leave. you absently tug her along as you flit from shop to shop, and she waits patiently as you chat with ogura mio about new kimono designs. she sees your eyes linger on a dark purple, almost black silken cloth with golden highlights, and makes a mental note of it. the next morning she leaves the kujou estate before you wake, and heads straight to ogura’s shop to commission a kimono and yukata made from that very cloth. her coin purse ends up significantly lighter, but she can’t find it in herself to care.

(she pretends she doesn’t see the knowing look in ogura’s eye.)

sara being defended for the first time by you. harsh words and harsher hands are not unfamiliar to her—this is, after all, just how takayuki raised her. she has long since learned how to drown out the snide comments from the other nobles of the kujou clan who coveted her position or her prestige. she is used to it, really. but she can’t help the way her eyes widen by a fraction and her heart lurches in her chest again when you shoot an equally scathing response right back at the noble from over the rim of your teacup. she has been a protector for so, so long that she isn’t sure what to do with herself when you glance back at her, all while the noble fumes across the tatami mats. she just nods, and you offer her a smile, before commanding the nearby guards with all the authority of a general’s wife to remove the man from the premises.

(you squeeze her hand under the table and her throat tightens—is this what it’s like to matter?)

sara going to a festival for the first time with you. she’d only ever enjoyed these from the outskirts, watching the fireworks as a guard at her post instead of as a reveler. you bring her along hand in hand to try out all sorts of assorted street foods and festival games. the fireworks bloom in the sky like blazing flowers, and she watches as your hair tosses lightly in the wind. the light illuminates your face in hues of dancing gold, and for a moment she’s struck near senseless by the sight of you. you call her name, softly, and her heart trembles in her chest like a frightened bird. and then you kiss her, lips soft against her own and she’s melting into your touch. her wings burst out from her back, pulling a breathless giggle from you. sara blushes furiously, stammering out some excuse that you cut off by kissing her again.

I love your writings and art and all. You must have given me some brainrot, cause your slasher Sun was in my dream a few nights ago. It was in an arcade (maybe theirs?) and we were just chatting. It was nice :)

Plus, a question. What's something that each of the two slasher bois are passionate to talk about? Like, you get on the topic and they will talk for hours? Keep hydrated and well rested.

Okay, I think you might be the 4th or 5th person to tell me that they’ve had dreams about the slashers? I actually had one myself a couple weeks ago featuring Moon. Not much pleasant conversation though lol, in fact, things got very violent very quickly. Comes with the territory I suppose. And not unusual for my dreams 😬. I consume a lot of horror content 👹.

I mean it’s not hard to get Sun talking on most subjects. Even ones he doesn’t know much about like, idk, sports or technology, he could go for a quite a while on what he does know (or tbh what he really doesn’t lol). Conversation can be very meandering and stream of concious with him. He thinks aloud and talks to himself too.

But I think it would become obvious from how often he brings it up when discussing other topics, that Sun’s favorite subject is the arcade/playplace and all its patrons. Especially the youngest ones. It’s really his whole world that him and Moonie have rebuilt from ruin. Every soul that has come within its walls leaves its impression on the arcade and Sun… some deeper than others.

Sun will ramble if you let him. But he’s also an hyper-attentive listener! He loves people. And loves to learn about the things that people love.

Moonie’s harder to answer for 🤔. He is just generally not a yapper. Like I just cannot see him speaking for any significant length about any subject (at least when sober). You could definitely get him started on his favorite arcade games (Galaga, Street Fighter, DDR, Rampage), but soon you’d start to see him get a bit fidgety, eyes darting over to the game cabinets.

He’d halt in the middle of explaining a technique, looking a bit frustrated because words aren’t cutting it to convey what he means. “Come here. Just show you” and he’d grab your wrist and lead you over to the game in question and demonstrate what he’s talking about first hand.

Then he’d want you to try it, switching to watching you play with rapt attention, making clipped critiques and comments, chuckling and teasing. Moon isn’t much of a conversationalist, but if he likes you, he’ll share the things he loves in his own way.

Since it's the last day of the year, and many people will be sharing their achievements or fulfilled goals but this post is a reminder that it's completely alright if the only thing you did this year was survive and be alive.
