I Just Need to do One Thing...

Don't Cry Over Spilled Paint

There are hundreds of different ways to prevent this from happening such as:

1. You can build or buy an apparatus to set your paint pots in

2. You can put down a glob of poster tack or museum wax for your pot to easily stick to and be lifted back up again

3. You can put your paint in dropper bottles

4. You can be really careful (I do not recommend this suggestion)

But... they all involve going beyond the thought "It'll only take a second..." or "I won't knock it over..."

I Wish for Liberation

I sit in the dark, my thoughts a storm of fragments, and I wish, not with the innocence of a child but with the bitter clarity of experience, that you would feel the weight of every wound you gave.

do you know the sharp sting of betrayal, the cruel echo of a lie, the loneliness that wraps around the heart like a shroud?

I want you to know the hollow ache of waiting, the gnawing uncertainty that burrows deep, the sleepless nights stretched out in their endless, aching expanse.

I want the weight of your own choices to press down on you, heavy and relentless, until you understand the pressure that drove me to despair, until you feel a trace of my sorrow settling like dust in your own empty spaces.

you, who sculpted misery with your hands, who wielded cruelty like a blade, are you aware of the echoes you left? do you hear them whisper in your dreams, the ache you wove so effortlessly into my days?

i could wish for storms to ravage your calm, for the sky to crack open with lightning that rends the fabric of your peace, for the tremors of regret to shake your foundation.

yet, even as I wish this, I realize that suffering does not heal, that the flames of revenge only scorch the hands that wield them.

so, instead, I let the weight of my sorrow settle, a quiet confession to the universe that sometimes I crave for the scales to tip,

for the pain to be known, but mostly,

I wish for liberation, for the shackles of my anger to fall away, and for a heart that no longer clings to the shadows of the past.

so I let the wish drift, a bitter gust of wind that fades into the void, and I turn away, searching for a release from this desire, for a way to mend the broken pieces without adding more shards to the world’s already jagged heart.

Edgar Allen Poe fans, eat your hearts out.

I LOVE this skull. I have no idea if I will ever be able to replicate this again but wow! I am impressed with myself. And it was SO easy! I base painted the skull with Vallejo Model Color 70.918 Ivory then washed it with Vallejo Game Wash 73.200 Sepia Shade. Toughed up the teeth with some more Ivory after the wash and voila! The raven is base painted in 70.994 dark grey, washed in Citadel Colour Nuln Oil (which I spilled all over my workspace, reminding me why I am not allowed to use paint pots), then dry brushed with 70.883 Silver Grey. The base is Vallejo Environmental Thick Mud 73.810 Light Brown Mud washed in Nuln Oil and highlighted.

How Not To Paint a Miniature tip of the day: If your paint pot lid will not stay open creating a suitable spot to dip your brush on the tongue, DO NOT use a 45 caliber bullet you just happen to have laying around. It is both slightly too big and will make your pot top-heavy so it is easy to tip over creating a terrible mess. 

My recommendation: A piece of plastic straw like a drinking straw or one of the plastic tips that comes on your brushes when you buy new ones. The extra length can actually help to keep the pot from tipping over completely and it does not add any extra weight.

Willowwind78 Not-So-Pro Tip: Always keep a clean eye-dropper near your work station. Not only does it come in handy for making dilutions to create your own washes but it can also be used to salvage some of you paint after you knock the pot over. You’re welcome.
