This poll is STRICTLY about the animation and the animation only.

*Edit to make sure this is a bit more clear: this poll is opinion based and opinion based only.

These two styles of animation are completely different, Arcane’s animation is supposed to be reminiscent of a video game and the Spiderverse movies are supposed to be reminiscent of a comic book. Both of them do a good job of doing just that and because of these huge differences, it’s like looking at Picasso and Vermeer. I even added the Miette option for that reason.

I am, however, just asking which one you gravitate more towards.

Multiverse dreams

It just occurred to me that when people in the MCU dream, they dream about their multiverse selves.

This means that:

-MCU Peter has had dreams of not being able to save someone named Gwen

-Mentoring some black kid called Miles

-Turning into a giant spider monster

-Marrying MJ, then finding out she's a clone, then her clone dying

-Marrying and divorcing MJ and becoming a depressed, overweight junkie

-Getting beaten to death by Kingpin

-Having a spider baby and becoming a stay-at-home dad

-Watching a kid get choke slammed and chased by an angry spider-mutant and doing nothing about it (better not tell Moon Knight this.)

-Getting hit by a drone

-Breaking his back

-Peter B (and RIPeter) could have dreams of being on a strange planet and disintegrating

-Also, did Peter B have a nightmare about being beaten to death by Kingpin?

-Moon Knight had nightmares about Randall not dying, but becoming a villain who beat up his pregnant girlfriend causing her to miscarry

-Also killing Randall on purpose

-Also carving Bushman's face off

-And stealing a time travel tool back from Rama-Tut and meeting different Moon Knights through time-travel

-Echo had dreams where she can hear and she dated both Moon Knight and Daredevil

-The Echo in the comics had dreams of being completely deaf and mute and having magical healing powers, her mom dying in a car accident and losing her leg, fighting Daredevil, etc

-The Punisher had dreams of his family dying at a family picnic on the beach

-Also of being a bounty hunter and hunting Spider-Man

-Peggy Carter had dreams of travelling to the future and also becoming a MODOK-like entity during WW2 on a mission with Steve

cause I've got opinions lmao. Strap in. This is a long one lol.

alright. like I just said, I'm aroace, and I'm not interested in romance in general. but I also love ships. I'm a huge shipper.

but in general, in media I don't need to have romance, not everything.

this whole discussion (with myself lmao) came from the Opinion I have about future Sonic movies, and how I don't think they should include romance for the Main characters, side characters are fine. but in my opinion the main characters shouldn't be involved with romance plots.

as some media can be good. but can be completely ruined by a shit romance plot.

before i go any farther, I wanted to say. I'm not saying the writers can't write a romance. or that I don't have faith in them, I just want a popular film franchise where the main characters aren't in a romance storylines.

looking at the bigger picture our media and society as a whole is very revolved around Romance and romantic relationships. Queer media is also guilty of this (if you have any aro/ace focused media PLEASE give me recs) and growing up 99% of the media I watched had a romance plot. And now, most of the media I WANT to see (for other reasons) still has a romance that doesn't really need to be there and is pointless to the plot.

If the plot was reliant on it that's another story. But if it's there JUST to be there. It better be really damn good. If I need to take time outta a movie I payed like. $6 to see and a portion that could've been used for the plot is spent on a terribly written romance plot that adds nothing and will mean the ACTUAL STORY I payed to see is pushed aside for it I'm gonna be pissed.

This is also why I don't want romance in the new MCU Spiderman movie. And ALSO Not beyond the spiderverse. I don't think Miles and Gwen should date. I think this trilogy should be about a kid coming into his own as Spiderman and not have a Romance thrown in there. And as for MCU Spiderman I think for AT LEAST the next movie Peter should stay single. Keep him isolated. Alone. Have him start with making FRIENDS. FIRST. (Obv I want him and MJ back together tho)

This is why I love things like Rise of the TMNT. the only ACTUAL romance is a past one that was before the series and it's Big Mama and Splinter. None of the main characters, the only other possible romances are implied or just plain fanon.

In my opinion if a piece of media doesn't need romance (like ROTTMNT) leave that to the fans to make (like srsly. Look at TMNT 2012. THAT is another reason why I don't think everything needs romance. THATS WHY (Also I feel Tales of the TMNT COULD be going this way....I hope it doesn't have a romance plot. I feel it could ruin it. Sometimes you just gotta LEAVE THE ROMANCE TO THE FANS) the Riordanverse does SOME relationships well. Like Percy and Annabeth, Magnus and Alex, Frank and Hazel, Nico and Will, but I will criticize it. Leo didn't need a girlfriend (ESPECIALLY not Calypso), a reason I really LIKE the Trials of Apollo books is that Apollo/Lester doesn't end up with anyone. The books are focused on HIS development on HIS quest on HIM.)

MLP FIM is also a great example of something that doesn't have major romance and how it's a huge strength. (And a reason why the Equestria Girls movies are kinda worse) none of the main characters are in relationships in the series. Only in the finale. And they're mainly (Exept Pinkie and Cheese) are implied. Not explicitly romantic.

That (I think) concludes my rant.

I don't think Miguel should die in Beyond The Spiderverse nor become an all out villain.

Not because I'm a fangirl and love him, though that is an element, but because he fucked up big time and redemption via death would be a lazy writing decision. He should have to atone for his bad actions. How many spider people let their loved ones die under his instructions? How many people got hurt pursuing his goals? How traumatised did he leave Miles after the chase?

As for his villainy, a route the story seems to be taking is a very anti-authoritarian one but also allowing for the authorities to have depth and humanity. And I do not see a world where Miguel becoming an all out villain would be a good theme to set. Especially since he is a vigilante himself and his shared trauma of loss should be emphasised. Even the "some people can't be saved" idea probably wouldn't work since Spot kind of already is doing that. He's trying to control everything and appears too far gone to redeem. Miles tries to offer him sympathy but it doesn't work. Miguel doesn't also need to fall into that role.

Instead, I think utilising him as someone who has to correct his wrong doings is a much more interesting way to take him. Allow for the budding guilt to eat away at him, perhaps breaking down when he realises he's wrong and losing his poise again, eventually being told "dude you fucked up but get your shit together" and he starts rebuilding the spider society into a help line for large threats and support more than a consistency programme and recognises and faces the fears he let control him. That sounds way more interesting to me than death or pure evil.

It also would align with Spiderverse's subversion of tropes.

- Miles's mentor isn't a father figure but Miles is Peter's son figure

- The love interest isn't a minor damsel or side character but a complex and layered person who's practically a second protagonist in ATSV

- Miles isn't told he needs to be strong and help everyone by a mentor or loved one that motivates him to save the day but that he's not strong enough and ends up having to motivate himself.

- The antagonists aren't well put together, calculated and intelligent but hot messes with heavy punches just like the protagonists.

- Miles isn't an orphan but has two (currently) alive and loving parents along with a huge family.

Avoiding the cop out redemption via death trope sounds pretty in line for the writers of Spiderverse.
