I just heard a woman in a crafting video firmly say "If that's how you think--!" with a strong, Southern US accent.

It gave me the worst flashback to the 1995-2015 era of my life that seemed to be rife with craft purists. You know the kind. Your pottery has to be wood-fired, your knitting has to be 100% heritage breed sheepswool, you need to hunt and kill an endangered species before it's a real bone folder, and are you really making cookies if you aren't growing your own buckwheat and grinding it into flour?

Nope. The next part of the sentence was "--then just do what works for you." Other casual remarks from this very passionate, but not very adamant woman: "Sometimes a quick win is what you need", "Choose an amount you can complete", "Will it be faster with [expensive tool]? Absolutely. Do you need it? Not even a little."

For all the things the internet has ruined, it has connected enough crafters that the only resources on so many "old timey skills" are no longer texts mandating perfection or aging people so frightened of their art being lost, they can't allow anyone to be silly or innovate.

Okay, I know that “it’s actually originally meant to show the passage of time instead of being bi colors” and all that…disregarding how that’s such a vibrant pink and a harsh, rigid, and very linear gradient for a supposed sunset, and that it’s already night (not sunset or twilight) at the crypt, whatever.

But regardless, I think putting a suspiciously bi-colored gradient behind cross-shaped bars, in the climax scene of the arc where Angel of the Lord Castiel’s heavenly biological family—who considers his deep connection with a man named Dean Winchester to be “corrupt,” as it is something that pulls him away from Heaven and is therefore forbidden and punishable under their rules—brainwashes him into detaching himself away from and almost killing said man, after they have chosen to introduce a new, very clinical set design for Heaven in this season for the sole purpose of having it go along with the lobotomies that they repeatedly have Cas go through for the said brainwashing, and all of this being done with the intention of having it be Dean’s CONFESSION and Cas’ LOVE for him that breaks the brainwashing and saves both of them, is—to be quite frankly—crazy, crazy work. Certainly a choice A Series of Fascinating Choices if you will.

I often see Ezri described as a rich kid. And it's true, but it's more interesting than that!

Because she also grew up outside of Federation space ! She grew up in the Sappora system, which is independent, but under Orion Syndicate influence. Her parents owned one of the largest mining operations here.

While her childhood was materially comfortable, it's not clear that she grew up in a post-scarcity world. Sappora VII seems pretty polluted because of the mining, and the working conditions are hard for her parent's employees.

So while she grew up in the same level of comfortability as Jadzia or Ben (maybe a bit less so because of the pollution?), she really is issued of the bourgeoisie. Her parents are land owners, exploitators. Her social position doesn't exist as such in the Federation (there's an intelligentsia there, but not a bourgeoisie).

And she chose to leave her world for one who chose radically different policies. (I've seen a few people describe the Federation as "not socialist, just post-scarcity", but Cardassians and Romulans seem to have very equivalent technological capabilities. Egalitarianism was a choice, and the federation can be called socialist imo. Not much of a hot take on tumblr, lmao)

I'm not saying that it was virtuous of her to leave (although it's always a hard choice to get away from one's family.) but it's interesting that she made that choice. And I think it's far less trivial than "Ezri's a rich kid" that she was written like that
