~Blood & BLISS~
Human!Alastor x wife!Reader
Themes: 1930 based! Human!Alastor x wife!Reader, domestic life! fluff, smut, devotion, slight manipulation, mention of children, pregnancy, blood, murder, secrets
chapter two
Synopsis: Marrying New Orleans famous radio host had been a shocker to everyone. You, a southern belle from an esteemed family, had somehow managed to catch the attention of the mysterious bachelor.
Your wedding was all in the papers and talk of the town, even though the ceremony was rather private.
You quickly settled in as the homemaker as Alastor brought home the dough and took care of you.
It was a dream come true.
But Alastor was strange, even to you and you were his wife, but you brushed it off as him just being a man. You had nothing to complain about. You lived in a nice big house, had the finest luxuries, and Alastor would dote on you. What wasn’t to love?
Well… all those things were nice, but you were starting to crave a family with your husband.
You knew of Alastor’s upbringing and had an inkling that children might not be an option…but Alastor wouldn’t deny you what you desired most would he? Of course not ma belle.
Alastor prided himself on how people often wondered about him. The renowned radio host, who the public rarely saw. He was a mystery to many. He frequented jazz lounges and often could be found drinking whiskey as he listened to the Mimzy gossip about the latest news.
He, himself was shocked when he met you, the prettiest thing in the city. He had to have you. He knew you were the one.
Like the gentleman he was, he sent you flowers and love letters to begin courting you. He never tired of how shy you were around him.
It wasn’t long before he asked your father for your hand and the two of you got hitched.
And what a wedding it was! he spared no expense to your disapproval.
Alastor was the epitome of what every husband inspired to be!
Doting, providing, and attentive.
But he had a secret he kept from his little wife…
Can he maintain control over his domestic affairs and his sinister ones?
Soft jazz played in the background as you busied around the kitchen preparing dinner. The sizzling of the oil carried the scent of fried chicken as you chopped collards and added them to another pan to fry.
You hummed along to whatever song was playing as you cooked.
You took the chicken out of the grease, poured some of it in a can for later and used the rest to make cornbread. You stirred the collards a bit, adding pepper and a little salt before turning the stove off. You glanced at the clock; 6pm, Alastor should be coming home soon.
After putting everything in pretty dishes and wrapping it in foil you sighed tiredly as you finally got off your feet, plopping down on a couch.
You almost wanted to go back into the kitchen and clean up, but thought to just wait after dinner to do so.
You perked as your radio made a noise, static as if the channel had changed, before the voice of your husband came through.
”Well folks that is all. I have for you tonight! I hope you enjoyed today’s broadcast and I will see you tomorrow. I wouldn’t want to be late for dinner nonono haha. Until next time!”
You smiled, feeling happy he wasn’t going to stay at the studio all night.
With that in mind, you quickly ran upstairs to freshen up, wanting to greet your husband without the smell of grease clinging to you.
“I’m home!” A voice called as the sound of the front door closing had you rushing downstairs.
Alastor was taking off his coat, when you greeted him “Oh let me take that” you smiled, grabbing his coat to put it away. He let out a relieved sigh as he removed his shoes and put them by the door. Once comfortable, his long arms were around your waist, pulling you into a kiss “And how was my beautiful wife today hmm?” He asked bringing a dainty hand to his lips. You giggled “Oh nothing worth mentioning. How was work today? I heard you signing off. I hate that I missed tonight’s broadcast” you mused, untying his bow tie. Alastor hummed “oh you know same ole same ole, through I will say I got a lot of fan mail today” he chuckled as you rolled your eyes. He took a whiff of the air and grinned “Hmm looks like I actually made it in time for dinner”
You both made your way to the kitchen and you immediately went to fix his plate, while he got glasses out of the cabinet and some red wine.
Alastor practically had drool coming out of his mouth as the smell of food wafted into his nose. You took a seat across from him and smiled. “My my my dear what a meal youve prepared tonight!” He commented as he took a bite out of the cornbread, moaning in delight.
It always filled your heart with happiness seeing Alastor eat your food. When you first got married, you didn’t have a clue on how to cook. It was rather embarrassing, but you had grown up with personal cooks.
But Alastor didn’t mind teaching you, and soon enough you were whipping up delicious meals that filled his stomach, rather than upset it.
Dinner was quiet as the two of you enjoyed each others company, Alastor making comments about the lastest gossip he had heard and you catching him on the neighborhood gossip. “Oh before I forget, Mimzy wants to know if you wanted to swing by the lounge this weekend. Something about I keep you to myself too much” Alastor laughed, swiping at his mouth. You laughed, that sounded like Mimzy. Always hoping to get a chance at you singing on stage so she could make a few extra bucks. “Well tell ‘er not this weekend, I have plans to host a few of the ladies for book club. Rosie is sure to have some gossip I’ve missed.”
Alastor quirked a brow “You sure dear? I fear Mimzy will chew me a new one if she don’t get to see ou” You mulled it over “Well book club usually don’t take that long and its during tea time so I guess I don’t mind gracing the lounge with my presence” you giggled, getting up and taking your empty dishes to the sink. Alastor followed you and quickly swatted your hands as you reached to turn the sink on.
“Now now my dear, you spent all evening cooking the least I can do is wash the dishes. The chef shouldn’t cook and clean” he nudged you away from the sink as you pouted.
It never ceased to amazed you that Alastor took on household chores. Most husbands had their wives cook and clean, but not your Alastor.
He didn’t like you to tire out from maintaining the home all day.
You pressed a kiss to his cheek in thanks and told him you’ll be upstairs getting ready for bed.
You had just finished rolling your hair when Alastor came up to your bedroom. You sighed as you sunk into the cool cotton sheets, finally relaxing for the day. You didn’t realized you had quickly fell asleep until feeling Alastor slide into bed beside you, arm pulling you to tuck you into his side and rest your head on his chest.
You happily cuddled into him, breathing in his scent as the sound of his heartbeat lulled you back to sleep.
A yawn passed your lips as began to fall asleep
”Goodnight”
”Sleep tight dear”
”Don’t let the bedbugs bite”
”haha see you in the morning light love” he whispered pressing a kiss to your forehead as you sighed, chest heaving in deep breaths.
Alastor smiled at your sleeping face; how lucky was he to have a sweet wife who worked so hard while he was gone. His eyes grew heavy as he listened to your soft snores.
What bliss. He wouldn’t give this up for anything in the world.

deep-fried | u. tengen
summary: he’s spoken to you in passing. friendly greetings and excuse me’s when he bumped into you at the grocery store. he can’t deny entertaining the thought of how soft your hips must feel. how cute you must sound, tongue curling around his name. genre: modern au, romance cw: mentions of alcohol, language, black female reader, suggestive themes, stream of consciousness, incomplete
Darkness swaddles him as the wind howls beyond the confines of his truck.
It’s quiet inside, save for the lazy purr of his Ram and the melancholy music spilling from his speaker. His grip on the steering wheel is lax as he creeps through his drowsy neighborhood, headlights shining off windows shut tight.
The clock on his display reads 10:37. Another night spent rotting away in his office. He rolls out the kinks in his neck. Exhaustion leaks down his shoulders, curling around his bones and puddling at his feet.
The day wasn’t kind to him. He spent it in and out of meetings. Deals fell through. Clients were no-shows. He had to lay off a few of his strongest employees at the urging of his superiors to compensate for the company's financial imbalance.
All he wants now is a stiff one and the chilly clutch of his bed. Just wants to throw this week in the backseat along with his briefcase. Maybe he’ll scrounge up some three-day-old stir fry from his fridge before he hits the sheets.
But then it’s there, burning in his peripheral when he rounds the corner: orange and blue flames dancing in the wintry gale. Golden swatches of light bounce off your features, highlighting the smile rounding your lips.
“What the...fuck?” Tengen rasps. He rolls the window down halfway and turns his music to a dull murmur. Slows to a stop, brakes squealing. He props his arm on the steering wheel. Your chuckle follows. Warm milk and honey to his ears. He finds your smile infectious, his own canting his lips.
“Howdy, neighbor!” Your voice is husky. Flirtatious even. You sit on your cozy outdoor sectional with a bottle gleaming in your fingers, raised to him in greeting. The breeze carries the oaky scent from your fire pit, reminding him of log cabins and days spent amid the snow.
“What’s this all about?” he asks, chin nestled in his palm. Surprised by how easy it is to skip formalities with you like he’s talking to an old friend. He’s not enamored. There’s no way.
He’s spoken to you in passing. Friendly greetings and excuse me’s when he bumped into you at the grocery store. Simple conversations after running into each other at the gym. He can’t deny entertaining the thought of how soft your body must feel, though. How cute you must sound, tongue curling around his name in that Southern twang.
You stand, thighs thick even beneath the slouched fleece of your sweats. Throw your arms up, your sweater flashing a slither of smooth, dusky skin. His mouth waters. It takes all of him not to bite his lip.
“Shoooot! I made it through another week!” Your grin is lopsided as you rock to the mellow tunes flowing from your speaker. He falls deeper into your web, chuckling. He’s envious of your carefree nature. Wishes he could bottle it up for use on a rainy day. “Care to join me?”
The offer is tempting. Sure, Tengen planned to drink himself into a stupor. But your body language beckons him, and your finger curls in a come hither gesture while you dance like a tipsy fool.
Fuck it. He could use a little respite.
His reply comes as easy as breathing in and out. “Gimme a sec to get out of this monkey suit, and I’ll see how I feel afterward.”
You giggle. Do an accomplished jig around the fire. Tengen can’t help but laugh as he slides off. You’re adorable in your own right.
Excitement wriggles into his fingers as he slides into his driveway. Soon after, he slips into his house, toeing his loafers off by the door. Shimmies out of his coat, making a beeline for the shower, blood pulsing in his ears.
He carries the aroma of rosewood and smoke with him when he sidles up to your patio 30 minutes later.
Tries to play it cool, hands shoved in his pockets, though his chest is afire. Pretty thing like you hankering for his company. He should be so lucky.
“Drink?” you offer, your tone heavy with inebriation.
Corona. He’s not the biggest fan. Prefers the sting of something sour, but he accepts it on his way down onto the cushion beside you, anyway. Tengen sits back in an easy slouch, draping his arm across the headrest. His rings clack against the glass as he brings the bottle to his lips, condensation dripping onto his turtleneck.
For a while, nothing but the sounds associated with nighttime fill the space between you. The fire pops and fizzes. Crickets chitter in the distance. Trees shiver in the breeze. A dog or two barks somewhere far off. Tengen falls prey to the inner workings of his mind before rustling fabric brings him back to the present.
“What's wrong, suga?”
His gaze drifts to you, angled towards him. Your vibe is maternal despite the distilled wheat wafting off your breath. Must be that Southern hospitality everyone talks about. He sighs with a drop of his shoulders, taking another swig. “Just another day at the office.”
“Wanna talk about it?” You lean closer. Fill his nose with the fragrance of cracked vanilla beans, heat rolling off you in waves. He finds himself disarmed around you. Nerves flare when your tiny fingers brand his quad, scorching him to the bone.
“Not really,” Tengen husks, lost in the idle stir of your eyes. He feels like he could tell you everything. But for now, he’s content with soaking up your presence. Hasn’t had a lady friend for some time now, having fully embraced bachelorhood.
“That’s alright.” Give his thigh a squeeze, irises twinkling with something indiscernible. The shadows cast by the fire shroud your intentions. “Just know that whatever storm you’re weatherin’ is temporary. ‘sides, it’s the weekend! It’s time to turn up!”
He chortles at how quickly the mood shifts. At your goofy little dance, taking another sip of his beer. His hand engulfs yours atop his thigh, entranced by the smoothness of it. He could get used to this. Get used to you.
The air feels lighter now. It’s easy to slide into meaningful conversation, throwing back a few more beers as the night eases into the wee hours of the morning.
At some point, he finds himself nestled in the plushness of your sofa inside.
The lights are turned off, the only illumination coming from the silvery moon peeking through your blinds. Sultry jazz tinges the air, chorusing with soft giggles and husky praise. A sheen of desire hangs overhead, intermingled with the smell of firewood clinging to your clothes.
Your thighs are tender in his hands. Doughy like he knew they would be, framing his hips. Your fingers make an unhurried excursion to the hair at his nape as your lips brand his carotid. His responding chuckle is breathless, disbelieving. Vibrates your chest, your breasts warm against the hard press of his torso.
He's grinning like a fool, lids heavy. Can't help mulling over what brought you to this point as his hands engulf the dips of your hips. Sucks his lip between his teeth, his voice a low gravel as you bear down on the apex of his thighs.

Epel Felmier when he was first told he couldn't have his delicious home country recipes like buttered mashed potatoes and gravy with butter biscuits and ham and dumplings and seasoned veggie stir fry with bacon beans (i personally headcanon that he ate deep southern comfort food with lots of carbs and dairy stuff like cheeses and creams in the recipe and cold weather livestock mostly cause i think it fits the vibe and area plus i can absolutely understand being mad if i couldn't have a delicious carby gordita made from fried masa dough and stuffed with seasoned carnitas and cheese and beans. Like i love you Vil and Rook and i love the Pomefiore fam but i will cry if they took my delicious home comfort foods even if they're unhealthy ;_;)
Not gonna lie, I worry about Epel and the other Pompom boys.
They're all at the age where they need those extra calories and protein, have you seen just how much teen boys can eat? Those guys are gonna end up with stunted growth with those strict diets, I bet even Rook sneaks in extra protein for those muscles he keeps hidden.

a while ago you shared your rice onions bell peppers chicken recipe as your go to meal and i made it last night and it was amazing!!! tysm for sharing it. do you have any other chicken recipes that can be made in a wok/kadhai? I don’t have an oven so I was pleasantly surprised to make sth that actually tasted good and not just sth i whip up for sustenance 😅
Yeah for sure. I rarely use the oven when I’m cooking dinner, I do pretty much everything on the stovetop in a wok or frying pan. It's faster and gives me more control.
I think the best thing you can do is learn basic techniques. Once you have the basics down, you don't need a recipe to whip up a quick weekday dinner. You can just cook whatever you feel like cooking, with whatever's in your kitchen: whatever cut of meat, whatever veggies, whatever spices in your pantry.
99% of what I do is just the same basic techniques with different seasoning profiles, veggie sides, and carbs (rice, flatbread, potatoes, noodles).
Here are 4 things to do with chicken in a wok.
Dry Rub + Saute
The easiest and fastest. Simply make a spice mix, massage it into every nook and cranny of the meat (whole or chopped, either way), let it sit for a bit while you get other stuff ready and heat the pan (ideally you'd let it rest in the fridge for a few hours, but it's not necessary), then saute in oil.
The spice mix can be whatever you want (or a premade one, who cares). It's honestly hard to find a combination of random herbs and spices that doesn't taste good. After all, the basis of all cuisine is "doing stuff with whatever we have around," and I've never met a cuisine I didn't like. My go-to spice mix is 1 spoonful brown sugar plus roughly equal parts (1-2 tsp each) paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili or cayenne powder, salt, black pepper, plus 1-2 dried herbs. (Basically Cajun spice mix.)
How to saute (it's one of those things that everyone just assumes you know how to do, but maybe you don't!): First, heat wok over high/medium-high heat. You know the wok is nice and hot when you flick a couple drops of water in there and they instantly evaporate. Then, drizzle in enough oil to give the bottom of the wok a solid unbroken sheen. Swirl the pan so the oil coats the whole bottom. Watch the oil. When the surface is shimmering/trembling (should be very quick if your pan is already hot), it's ready. Carefully add your chopped meat or veggies in a single layer--don't overcrowd the pan, the meat will steam instead of brown. Let the meat sizzle untouched for like 2-3 minutes, then flip to brown the other side. You don't need to constantly stir or toss--that just lengthens your cooking time because the meat isn't touching the pan long enough to brown. That's how you get tough chicken! For chopped chicken, 6-7 minutes of pan-touching is plenty of time to cook through.
Marinate + Saute
Same thing as a dry rub, just wet. There are lots of ways to marinate chicken. The thing to remember is marinade = acid. Acid breaks down proteins, which tenderizes the chicken/meat.
Typical marinade acids: lemon juice, vinegar, soy sauce, buttermilk, yogurt. Simply pick one and build the rest of the marinade around it. If you use something very acidic, like lemon juice or vinegar, you'll want to balance it with fat: roughly equal parts lemon juice and olive oil. For soy sauce, it's really salty, so you'll want to balance it with something sweet: honey, brown sugar (i.e. teriyaki). Buttermilk and yogurt are great bases for a spice mix--think US Southern buttermilk fried chicken, or Indian yogurt marinades.
Once you have a balanced base, you can add whatever herbs and spices you want. Then just make sure all the meat is coated in marinade, cover, and chill in the fridge for a few hours. Then saute as usual (though you might want to use a little bit more oil to avoid bits of marinade sticking and burning).
Curry
Very easy and delicious. There are 1 million kinds of curry. This is just me but I think of it as a spectrum from thin to thick. "Thin" would be like Japanese or Thai style, where the base is primarily broth or stock (sometimes with coconut milk/cream) thickened or flavored with roux or curry paste. "Thick" would be like certain types of Indian curry, like makhani style with the blended tomato-onion base, or yogurt base, or creamy cashew/peanut/etc. base.
The main building blocks are gonna be onion, garlic, ginger. Then spices and other seasonings, obviously depending on what kind of curry you're making: curry powder, garam masala, lemongrass paste, cumin, coriander, cardamom, chili, mustard, cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, etc.
If you are making "thin" style, you might want to make a roux. A roux is just equal parts fat and flour cooked in a pan.
How to make roux: 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter. Melt butter in pan, add flour, stir constantly over medium-low heat until desired color. Light roux = cook 5 min just until blond/golden, use for white sauces like bechamel. Brown roux = cook until caramel color, use for curries and soups. Dark roux = cook until deep chocolate brown, use for gumbo or jambalaya (mostly for flavor, not thickening).
To make roux for a curry, make a light or brown roux and add curry spices near the end. Let it fry for 1 minute or so to bloom the spices. Remove from pan and set aside to cool.
Another way of thickening curry is to cook chopped or diced onion until softened, then sprinkle on 2-3 Tbsp of flour + whatever spices you're using and stir for 1 minute or so to cook the flour and bloom the spices. Then add liquid.
3 basic curry methods:
Japanese style. Make curry roux. Heat oil in a wok. Add chopped onion and cook until softened. Stir in minced garlic and ginger (or ginger-garlic paste). Add chopped chicken and cook, stirring, until white on the outside. Add 4 cups chicken stock. Add chopped carrots and potatoes. Season with soy sauce, honey, etc. Simmer 15-20 minutes, uncovered, until chicken is cooked and veg is softened. Take 1 ladleful of cooking liquid and whisk into your roux until smooth. Stir that mixture back into your curry. Simmer, stirring, 5-10 minutes until thickened.
Thai style. Heat oil in a wok. Add curry paste or ginger/garlic/lemongrass paste + curry spice mix and fry 1 minute to bloom. Add 2-3 cups stock a little at a time, whisking, to avoid lumps. Add chopped chicken, onion, potato, whatever else you want, plus 1 can coconut milk/cream. Season with fish sauce, tamarind, sugar, etc. Simmer 15-20 minutes, uncovered, until chicken is cooked and veg is softened.
Indian tomato-base style. Marinate chopped chicken in yogurt marinade with curry spices for a few hours. Heat oil in a wok. Add minced garlic and ginger (or ginger-garlic paste) and curry spices. Fry 1 minute to bloom. Add chopped onion (and bell pepper if you want) and stir together. Add 1 x 28oz can tomato puree. Cook, stirring, 5 or so minutes until slightly darkened. Carefully transfer to a blender and blend until smooth. Transfer back to pan. Add 1 can coconut milk/cream or 1ish cups heavy cream. Simmer 30-40 minutes. Meanwhile, in a separate pan, sear chicken on both sides just until browned and caramelized. Add to curry and cook for 10 minutes until cooked through.
All of these are very hard to fuck up, since they're so similar to soup. Pick a style, pick some spices, go for it.
Finally,
Stir Fry
Who doesn't love stir fry, the world's most versatile food. "Stir fry" as a technique is different from "saute" in that it uses a bit more oil and a slightly lower heat, so there's a slightly longer cook time. (And you're stirring more.) For stir fry, you'll want to velvet your chicken to make it super tender and juicy. Otherwise, all you're doing is making a stir fry sauce and then cooking chicken and veggies in stages.
To make a stir fry sauce: The equation is: Water + fat + balance of sweet, salt, spice, sour + thickener. My go-to is like 1/3ish cup water + 1-2 Tbsp sesame oil + brown sugar, soy sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice or rice vinegar + 1 Tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 Tbsp water to create a cornstarch slurry. Just mix everything together and set aside. Then saute your chicken first, remove from pan. Add your veg to the pan in stages depending on how long they take to cook: first something like broccoli or carrot, cook for a few minutes, then onion and pepper, then minced garlic and ginger at the very end (garlic burns easily). Add your chicken back in, give a stir, pour your sauce in, give it a stir, done.
Good god this got long. Sorry. Work was slow today so what else am I gonna do.
Anyway, hope this helps! These 4 basic things, in combination with the wide world of seasonings, can create infinite easy meals. Let me know if you try anything. Good luck!

today was so wild it went from being so extremely shitty and thinking I wasn’t getting out of bed to then extremely grateful because I turned my day around and was glad to be alive to then nearly being bashed on a bus lmao nothing went to plan today and I didn’t end up getting my banh mi because I ate a brekky burger right before I left (and also I went in the opposite direction to the place I was gonna eat from) but positives of today are that I went to chadddy (biggest shopping centre (aka mall for international moots) in not just aus but the southern hemisphere if you didn’t know except it’s also my local like 10mins away) and I bought a few random useful bits and bobs from miniso and daiso <33 and I also bought a few random drinks from a supermarket in the shopping centre cause I’d never seen said drinks before and one thing about me I love trying one off random drinks and then I came home and FaceTimed one of my brothers and marinated some tempeh for tomorrow cause apparently I’m in my cooking era which is extremely suss of me???? (but I’m sure it’ll die off in a week when uni is back) but it’ll be interesting to see how it tastes tomorrow in a stirfry - the marinade was basically honey soy & garlic (I don’t follow recipe bc my adhd brain could never so I just make it up myself but I also wanna experiment w this a bit over next few days and come up w the perfect marinade I reckon) also did a random face mask and hair mask and ate lotsa meals ofc.. I do however wish I drank a little more water but it’s only like 8pm there’s still time!!!! I can’t believe tomorrow is Monday (last week before uni classes are back), I think tomorrow’s goals are to cook the mince in my fridge I bought for burritos to freeze and to try the tempeh in a stir fry also and to drink more water and maybe go for a walk cos I didn’t really do that today other than in the shopping centre which honestly counts bc I always get lost tryna find my way out despite having been there 99449483722 times bc I am directionally challengedlol… anyways, as a whole I feel like this exact same day I would have said was shit or mid at most in the mindset I was in before I started my daily positive things tag cos inevitably w my health rn there is a shit element in every day but I’m slowly shifting my mind to realise that’s an element of the day (though it does infiltrate all of it in a way Ssshh) and there are many other elements and actually I’m not mad that I’m here for the good elements.. I’m also like allowing myself to partake in the good elements which has been a little unexpected!! still as isolated as ever and hate the cold but so far this winter is feeling more manageable than ever before!! (maybe bc I’m not trying to come off a certain med like I try to this time every year even tho I so desperately want to but like extreme insomnia is the result of that and ruins eberything so idk if wanna risk it rn ahhhhh) I know it’s not much for a lot of ppl but I feel like I’m doing so much(for me) than this time last year and the year before and many years before when I couldn’t even get myself out of bed let alone do more than one task (I really hope I can keep this going when uni is back) ok imma quit yappin now

Announcer: ...and our four contestants are ready. They will have 1 hour to put together their dishes. Before we get started, let's go to the floor and put our contestants in the hotseat.
Interviewer: First up, hailing from the US's very own NYC. Perseus ssss Jackson! How are you feeling, Percy?
Percy: I'm doing alright, thanks.
Interviewer: What do you have planned for the judges today?
Percy: I'm doing seafood.
Announcer: Seafood. No surprises from the son of Poseidon. Let's go now to Leo Valdez.
Interviewer: Hailing from the southern metropolis of Houston, Texas. It's the senior counselor of the Hephaestus cabin at Camp Half-Blood. Give it up for Leo Valdez!
Leo: WASSUP everybody!?
Interviewer: You seem excited.
Leo: Nah, that's just how I roll. I'd like to take a moment to say - let's everybody do the Team Leo!
Interviewer: What you have planned for us Leo?
Leo: Hispanic food! I do it best...
Interviewer: Confident, ain't he?
Announcer: That's Leo Valdez, folks. Now we go to our third contestant.
Interviewer: Let's all put our hands together for Athena's own daughter, Annabeth Chase. How're you feeling Annabeth?
Annabeth: I'm feeling great.
Interviewer: Psyched to win it?
Annabeth: You know it!
Interviewer: What are you cooking up for us today?
Annabeth: I'm doing desserts.
Announcer: Desserts! A bold choice from the daughter of Athena. Time will tell if Annabeth's desserts blow the judges away and send her home with the grand prize. Now let's go to our last contestant.
Interviewer: Our last contestant is His Grace, the Ambassador of Hades. The Ghost King himself. Nico di Angelo! How are you doing Nico?
Nico: Okay, I guess...
Interviewer: What are you cooking up for us?
Nico: I'm doing dishes with black ingredients.
Announcer: Another bold choice from this son of Hades. I think it is safe to say that our judges can look forward to a diverse spread of food at the end of the night. Now, let's get it started. One hour on the clock! Contestants... GO!
Percy
-starts placing large lettuce leaves on plates
-chops up onions
-dices potatoes
-cuts deboned fish into thin slices
-squeezes mayo into a bowl
-finely chops up two whole dill pickles
-measures out 1/4 cup of lemon juice
Announcer: I think it seems obvious that the son of Poseidon is preparing some kind of fish dish and tartar sauce, but what are the diced potatoes and onions for? It's anyone's guess, folks.
Leo
-chops up two tomatoes and two bell peppers
-opens two cans of refried beans
-starts rolling out corn flour flat
-starts ground pork to frying on low heat
-makes a four-cheese blend
Announcer: Leo appears to have two dishes underway already. One is probably tacos, but the corn flour is an interesting choice. What's he doing now?
Interviewer: Can you tell us what you're planning with the corn flour?
Leo: Sure. I'm making pupusas.
Announcer: ...and it is! Pupusas! A rather unexpected pleasure for our judges.
Annabeth
-whips up chocolate pudding mix
-crushes up graham crackers
-starts whipping cream
-breaks 3 eggs into a bowl
-starts adding two tablespoons of peanut butter,
Announcer: It looks like the daughter of Athena might be making peanut butter cookies. Clearly the pudding and the graham crackers are intended for something else. What could the whipped cream be for?
Nico
-stirs together blackberries, amaretto, and corn starch in a bowl
-sets premade pie crust on the counter
-starts black beans on low in a food processer
-starts melting cheese
-slices up two egg plants
-pours rice into rice cooker
Announcer: The son of Hades is fast on his feet. Watch him go folks! He already has what appears to be at least three dishes in the works. It's a little early to call, but the competition starts with Nico clearly in the lead.
(in audience) Will: Go Nico! Yeah!

Introduction Post
Spring – Year 1: Week 1 - Week 2 - Week 3 - Week 4
Summer – Year 1: Week 1- Week 2 - Week 3 - Week 4
Current Goals:
Fast-track Blue Chickens
Fishing Level 10
Weekly Summary: Leander has taken the first steps towards becoming a part of the Pelican Town community! Having heard rumors of Shane’s chicken husbandry skills, our farmer is attempting to befriend possibly the only person in town to actively avoid having friends. Very rude; we just want to talk about chickens!
Leander has found solace in fishing. He prefers fishing at the dock in front of Willy’s shop, but will sometimes move to one of the small islands of the mountain lake. The Fiberglass Rod was a much needed purchase. The mines do instill a growing need for adventure, however…
Having met with the Wizard and “partaken” of his brew, Leander’s magics have begun to reawaken; enough that the Fae saw it within their good graces to bless our first crops. A fruitful first week back at Aurora Fields.
Daily summary & donation checklists under the cut; mod list in the Introduction post.

Jake's Relatively Low-Spoons Burrito Recipe
AKA "Burrito Glop" but I promise it's tasty
You're gonna have to eyeball quantities for your own needs- if you're only cooking for yourself you might wanna make like a can of beans and a cup of rice. If you're cooking for an army, you know, more than that. The whole thing takes like 10 minutes of actual cook time, maybe 5-20 minutes or prep time depending on if you do the 'fancier' method.
You will need:
rice, and a means of cooking rice
a pot
a pan
tortillas (the bigger the better)
beef (stir-fry strips ideal)
refried pinto beans (can sub with black beans if you're feeling more authentic)
shredded cheese ('mexican style' or 'tex-mex' mixes prefered, otherwise some combo of cheddar and monterey jack and mozzerella is fine)
seasonings of your choice
You're gonna scoop out your refried pinto bean glop into the pot, setting the heat to medium and stirring occasionally until it gets hot throughout. Then you're gonna add the cheese and any seasoning you like to the beans, stirring it all in until it's uniformly distributed and the cheese is melted in. This will be an unholy mess of cheesy beans, and if you're not used to it, it might not LOOK appetizing, but it's good. For seasoning, I personally like to use a hefty amount of garlic (powder or flaked for ease), a hefty amount of hot sauce called Cholula (specifically chipotle flavor; it's not hot so much as it is flavorful imo), and a good squirt of lime juice (fake is fine).
Alternately you can just do this entire step in the microwave. Takes like 3 minutes to heat up the beans. Mix in the cheese and seasoning. It's not as good but the difference is negligible and I'm all about cutting corners.
You're gonna make your rice. I recommend you mix in roughly one tablespoon of caldo de tomate/tomato bullion per cup of rice, so it's more 'spanish rice' than just plain old rice, but you do you. Minute rice or equivalent for the microwave works great, but use whatever rice you've got. Personally I like basmati and we've usually got some lying around, and while it's a slightly nontraditional choice for Mexican food, I have looked upon the Throne of Heaven and found it empty. So the good news is, there is no one to judge me.
You're gonna heat up your tortillas. If you've got a gas stove, you can do this directly on the range if you've got calloused fingers like a proper abuelita. If you've got an electric stove, you're gonna want to do this in the pan.
You're gonna drop a bit of butter into the hot pan, let it coat the whole thing, then drop in your beef. I like to buy the strips of stir-fry beef and cut them into like, half-inch/1.5 centimeter long strips. Stir the beef around a bit. If you're like me, drop in some lemon pepper seasoning, some more lime juice, maybe some chilli powder if you want a bit of kick. Once you've flipped the beef so that most of it's been more or less cooked on both sides, you're gonna want to cover the pan to finish it off. Then drop the beef into the cheesy beans glop and stir it around.
I drop the juice from the beef in, too- butter, melted fat, lime juice, and all. Just stir it into the beans until no more liquid is visible. But that's optional.
Don't have the spoons for cooking beef? Throw some pre-cooked canned beef into the beans while they're hot. Stir it around a while. Boom. Or sub with pork or chicken or goat or whatever.
Man, goat is delicious, I miss living in southern California where I could get goat somewhat regularly.
You glop your bean/cheese/meat mixture onto the tortillas, then layer them over with rice. Alternately, you can mix the rice in first and then lay it all out at once. The rice helps absorb some of the saltiness from most cheeses, and it helps a good amount with the burrito's structural integrity.
I can't tell you how to fold a burrito very well via text, if you don't already know. Worst case scenario I guess you can eat it with a fork.
I like to make a heaping amount, serve everybody two big burritos minimum, and then put the rest in the fridge to be reheated for leftover burritos the next day, but you do whatever you like, I'm not your mother.
You can store the bean/cheese/meat glop and the rice in two separate containers if you are wrong my sister, or you can dump it all in one bowl for easier serving the next day. You sexy no-spoon genius.
If you wanted a vegetarian option you could just leave out the beef. If you wanted a vegan option I'm not sure how you'd help the beans stick together without cheese but maybe you have an idea.
Enjoy! And if you don't actually enjoy it... well, you're weird, but I still love you. Go eat something you do enjoy.

Venison Stew
On this very chill Sunday, I am warming up in the kitchen, stirring and steaming my Christmas Pudding, and cooking this mouth-watering Venison Stew. I used to eat game often enough, when visiting my grandparents in Autumn and Winter, when I was a child. And I had missed the hearty, earthy flavour of venison. Thus, I was happy to find deer meat at the butcher's the other day. This comforting Venison Stew brought as much gastronomic pleasure as it did fond memories. Happy Sunday!
Ingredients (serves 3):
2 slices Speck ham
1 tablespoon olive oil
half a large onion
2 small garlic cloves
1 tablespoon olive oil
500 grams/1.10 pound venison (deer) stewing meat
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 small turnips, rinsed
4 medium carrots, rinsed
a few sprigs dried thyme
2 large bay leaves
1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
1 tablespoon plain flour
1/4 cup White Port
3/4 cup good, robust red wine (like a Southern France Fronton or a Barossa Valley Shiraz)
1 1/2 cup Beef Broth
1 heaped tablespoon whole-grain mustard
4 tablespoons
Preheat oven to 160°C/32°F.
Heat a large Dutch oven over a high flame.
Once hot, add Speck ham slices, and fry, about 2 minutes on each side until browned. Transfer to a plate. Set aside.
Add olive oil to the Dutch oven. Reduce heat to medium-high.
Thinly slice the onion, and stir into the Dutch oven. Fry, stirring often until softening and browning, about 4 minutes.
Peel garlic cloves, and stir them into the Dutch oven. Cook, 1 minute more. Transfer to a plate as well; set aside.
Heat olive oil in the Dutch oven.
Cut deer meat into large chunks. Add to the Dutch oven, in batches, to brown well, about 4 minutes on each side. Once all the deer chunks are well-browned, transfer them to a plate. Set aside.
Melt butter in the Dutch oven.
Peel and dice turnips. Cut carrots into thick slices. Once the butter is just foaming, stir in turnips and carrots. Add dried thyme sprigs and bay leaves. Cook, stirring often until golden brown. Transfer to the plate with the onions, leaving the fat in the Dutch oven.
Return deer chunks to the Dutch oven, along with their resting juices. Season with coarse sea salt and black pepper. Sprinkle with flour, and cook, stirring well, 1 minute.
Deglaze with White Port and red wine, stirring energetically until sauce thickens.
Roughly chop Speck ham.
Return Speck, along with reserved onion, garlic, turnips and carrots to the Dutch oven.
Stir in Beef Broth and whole-grain mustard. Bring to the boil.
Once boiling, cover with the lid, and place Dutch oven in the middle of the hot oven. Cook at 160°C/320°F, 2 hours. After a couple hours, stir in Quince Paste, and cook, a further 15 minutes, atr 160°C/320°F. (If the venison is not fork tender yet, you can add a bit of water, and cook a tad longer.)
Serve Venison Stew hot, onto Parmesan Polenta, Cheddar Parsnip Mash or Bay Leaf Kūmara Mash.

Can your muse sing well? Do they sing often? If they were to stand up in front of a crowd, would they be able to sing in front of all of those people?
No, he cannot sing. He considers himself tone deaf. But he has an amazing voice for chanting. It's strong and projects throughout the meditation hall when he's leading everyone through that day's chants. He has no problem chanting in front of a crowd but singing is out of the question!
Can your muse cook? Can they bake? How well can they do either? Do they have any kitchen disaster stories?
He can cook simple things just to get by. He can make a tasty veggie stir fry. He has a collection of Air Nomad recipes written down somewhere as well as some vegetarian friendly Southern Water Tribe dishes his mom used to make. He can follow the recipes well enough, but it's nothing spectacular and not the way his mom made them.
He bakes only one dish. His father insisted he master it: Air Nomad fruit pies. He knows the recipe by heart and has made so so many. (so many!!) He's kind of sick of them. But when the temple is in need of donations, everyone gets together and makes them. At least now he's not the only Airbender, so he's not spending a whole day puffing up the gooey centers of hundreds of fruit pies.

Southern Fried Salmon Patties
Ingredients:
1 (14 3/4 ounce) canned salmon
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup flour
1 egg
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
Directions:
Open salmon and drain thoroughly. Place drained salmon in mixing bowl and flake evenly with a fork. Add onion, corn meal, flour, mayonnaise, and egg. Stir until well blended.
Shape the mixture into patties about the size of an average burger or less. Cook in oil in skillet over medium heat until browned on each side. Turn once while frying.
Note: The mayonnaise helps the patties hold their shape and keeps them from being too dry.
