The Day I Met God
I met God at a little coffee shop one evening in Ohio.
It was a chilly night, and I had a light sweater wrapped around my shoulder. My shoes click-clacked onto the pavement as I walked. A few people passed me, but not many. It was late. Later than people go to coffee shops.
I opened the door to find warmth, and light, and the sickly sweet smell of pastries in the air. And a woman sat at a table, and I knew who She was.
I sat at the table. She took a sip of her coffee. "Hello, God."
She sighed. "Hello."
I said nothing. I did not know what to say. The air felt fresher now than it had been when I walked in, like the smell of soil after rain. What was the word for that again?
"Petrichor," God said. Her voice was hard to place, and her face was too.
"You can read my mind?"
"No."
She did not explain.
"So," God said to me. "Do you have any questions?"
"No," I replied. "Not really. Or well, no, that's a lie. I have a lot of questions. But I don't think you could give me answers I'd like to any of them."
"I'm God," she replied. She looked confused.
"And?" I said. I got up and began to pace back and forth. No one else in the coffee shop even glanced my way. "Look. Terrible things have happened, alright? Terrible, terrible things. Things no excuse could ever make up for. Unless you are much less powerful than I've been lead to believe, you have let so many people die. You have let your chosen people die, and those that were not chosen. You've had a chosen people, which is kind of creepy. You've let people hurt each other, you've let entire groups be discriminated against for this they cannot control, just for existing. You have let the world burn in the name of free will. Free will isn't worth this!"
You take a deep breath. "You named us Israel. The people who wrestle with God. Well I've done my fair share, and I'm tired of it. There are no answers that can give me that would satisfy me, so what's the point of asking?"
"So?" God said. She looked resigned. "What do you want to do?"
I turned my head slightly to face her head-on. "I'm gonna get a hot chocolate. You want any?"

Icarus wasn’t an idiot, you know.
The rules were explained to him very clearly. He knew where he could and could not go, what heights were forbidden to him, the destination his father Daedalus had crafted for them to make their great escape. Freedom, of a sort. Icarus heard all of this from his father and accepted the conditions.
And Icarus fell.
Tragedy
noun [C or U] /ˈtrædʒ.ə.di/
A story affected by gravity.
It only goes down. It falls. Tragedies have weight to them, characters throw themselves at the sky with wax wings and they drip from their backs and one too many hours pulls their trajectories to the same place, every time. They are inevitable. Characters in a tragedy are objects of pity. Don’t pity us.
Icarus wasn’t an idiot.
He wanted freedom. Real, true freedom, the kind of which is so intoxicating when tasted for the first time that it is worth it even if you are falling for the rest of your life. Not the suffocating half-measure of his father. No machinations. No “what’s best for you”’s. Icarus chose to reach out his hand to Helios and hold it while plummeting into Poseidon’s cool embrace. To live free, like the gods, if only for 10,000 feet.
Icarus wasn’t an idiot, you know.
Icarus got exactly what he wanted.

do you ever just sit in the Sukkah and stare at the stars and think “Wow, this is what my ancestors did?” do you ever say a prayer and think about the generations before who said the same words that have just left your lips? do you ever shake the Lulav and Etrog and think about how even when the Etrog dries up and the leaves on the Lulav fall off of their stem, there will be new ones year after year after year?
because I just did. our religion is ancient and our religion is not going away. goyim will not erase us and antisemites will not disgrace us.
we are here. we will always be here.

alfies been playing stardew valley and we were talking about who to marry and I was like oh elliott is my forever husband he's such a fucking weirdo but over a few days it slowly became apparent to me that im barely reacting to this character as he actually exists in the game bc I kept being like "oh yeah I also hate his marriage dialogue I simply don't listen to him. I'm like that's nice honey go listen to the wine ferment in the basement" and Alfie was like. does he do that. and I was like well. I think he does

1000 years in the future...
Merlin:
They say to become a master at something, you must have done it a thousand times.
I have walked these lands a thousand times.
I've breathed and lived a thousand lives.
I've learned a thousand spells.
And travelled a thousand miles.
I've mastered everything.
You, I've loved a thousand years. And I would wait a thousand more.
But I've only done it once.
Let me love another. Let me love a thousand, so when you're back, I won't be afraid that my love is not enough.

A couple more poems! And these ones aren't even about magical skeletons. Instead, we have the doomed by the narrative adopted siblings.
