why am I a jerkass who rains on everyone else's parade when I say I don't like gory horror films because I find movies whose plot consists of some dude stabbing a bunch of people to be fucking stupid pointless boring schlock that only exists to stroke the boners of people who enjoy watching other people die vicariously from a good safe distance, especially when their sequels just cheaply kill off all of the survivors from the earlier films thus rendering the plot of the earlier ones L I T E R A L L Y COMPLETELY FUCKING POINTLESS

but when someone says they don't like seeing sexual assault portrayed in movies (valid) and that people who put them in are evil and bad and dumb and bad tasteless artists, everyone is like yes yes good perfect okay you have the correct opinion here have a good star

hey newsflash assholes, if you're watching a fictional movie about a clinical sociopath who butchers animals, beats the absolute shit out of people they don't like until they're crying and shitting their pants and bleeding out the eyes and pleading for mercy, tying a dude to a chair and then slicing his jugular and glaring in his eyes until he bleeds out, bludgeons some guy for no fucking reason until his blood and brain spatters the kitchen floor, stabs his (naked) sister 17 times (after slowly tracing his fingers on her leg no less, ew), stabs a nurse in the neck with a fork and killing her for literally no reason, then a decade and a half later going back to his hometown just to stab a dozen people with ice skates and pitchforks and good old fashioned kitchen knives, and having the film depict this all in graphic bloody detail

and your ONLY problem is that somewhere along the way two disgusting scum workers at an asylum took a brand new catatonic female patient into his room and fucked her until they messed with his masks so he just breaks their fucking skulls open (which define his character as someone who clearly has no compassion for others but will shatter your bones and strangle you just for touching his stuff), and it's that a girl was raped and not that you watched a guy pulverize two men into bloody giblets...

idk man something about that feels wrong. you're okay with watching fictional murder but not fictional rape even though neither are glorified or justified and it exists purely to cause discomfort and distress in the viewer because it's a fucking horror film and horror is supposed to expose you to depravity and as art it serves to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.

don't get me wrong rape is bad but like

so is fucking murder.

why can't I express my discomfort in society's gratuitous endorsement and desensitization to killing in fictional media without people taking it as a personal attack and then turn around and do the exact same thing to rape

it's a double standard and it's so stupid

you can eat popcorn and watch jason voorhees rip teenagers in half and then berate me for not having a good time bathing in someone else's blood and then in the same breath #cancel rob zombie's director's cut of his halloween reboot because there's a rape scene in it. the violence is okay; you like the violence, no, you love the violence. that's perfectly fine? violence is good. freddy can force a recovering addict to OD on heroin, that's fine. john doe can force a fat guy to eat spaghetti at gunpoint until his fucking intestines burst, that's okay. mark hoffman can lock an innocent woman in a brazen bull and cook her alive just to fridge her and punish her husband for a lie that he made, that's awesome and wonderful and /super cool/. it's bullshit.

I'm not here to say YOU CAN'T like nightmare in elm street. you can like the texas chainsaw massacre. you can like my bloody valentine. you can like the thing. you can like wrong turn. you can like saw. you can DISlike rob zombie's movies. you can fast forward through the rape scenes in halloween, house of 1000 corpses, and the devil's rejects if the scenes make you uncomfortable (as they are intended to do so because it's a fucking grimdark edgy music video inspired horror movie). I'm not here to tell you that YOU CAN'T have an opinion on things.

but it's a special kind of entitled to insinuate that not only is your opinion the divine right of kings and anyone who disagrees with you is wrong and dumb and evil, but that a squicky scene you don't like actively makes the entire film Objectively Bad™.

maybe I don't like the fact that tatum gets crushed in a garage door. maybe it squicks me. maybe it unsettles me. maybe I think that it detracts from the film when all billy had to do was just stab her one and done without making a huge ordeal out of it. maybe I think it only exists to make a spectacle out of death and gorify- sorry, I mean glorify, murder, because it's exciting and intriguing to some who take solace in the macabre. "the effects are cool". maybe I don't like it. but you can like it.

I can dislike it. you can like it. we're both valid. that's how opinions work.

"but people get triggered by rape"

people get triggered by drugs. people get triggered by food. people get triggered by religion. people get triggered by a lot of things. people get triggered by slit throats, strangling, and hanging. you're valid for your triggers and you can avoid whatever fucking content you wish but if you think only your very particular specific trigger is the one that's valid, screw everyone else? go fuck yourself. you selfish piece of shit. you're not the only person in the world. it isn't hard to respect that you're not the only worldview in the world.

but then again, maybe it is hard, considering nobody fucking does it. everyone's trapped in their own little world where they're the only one who matters. they don't give a single shit about anyone else but themselves and others they can project onto because they're similar. they don't care if you can't match them in any way. you're a freak if you're different and you don't matter.

never mind the fact that 90% of slasher horror is misogynist, ephebophilic, racist, exploitative of the mentally ill and physically deformed, in some cases appropriations of the non-christian religions, and in the other 10% it's actually a horror comedy.

but if a white girl is sexually assaulted that's the only time anyone bothers being compassionate

now a disclaimer because I know for a fact that people are gonna put words in my mouth and take shit out of context and point out things I didn't explicitly state outright and try to make me out to be some fucking evil boogeyman

not saying you SHOULDN'T be compassionate to rape victims and I'm not saying I personally enjoy rape scenes in movies and I'm not saying that I particularly like the inclusion of those scenes in those movies and there is certainly a conversation to be had on the very misogynist nature of hollywood cinema as a whole in the horror genre especially and we should keep in mind the thermian argument and it's a complex issue, I know I know I know so shut the fuck up I don't owe you a passing grade on clout or the semantics of discourse or virtue signaling.

it's just stupid that people only get upset if a fictional white girl gets raped in a gore porn movie when it ~doesn't suit the narrative~. ok, this is the narrative: scary man stabs, the end.

scary men stab all the time. scary men shoot. scary men suicide bomb. scary men patent insulin and sell it at an upcharge poor diabetics can't afford. scary men drop bombs on kids in syria. scary men put mexicans in concentration camps. scary men slaughter thousands of men and women for their religion or their sexuality or their skin color. scary men do a lot of bad shit. your silence on these issues does much more harm to society than *checks notes* a scary movie about bad people doing bad things and facing karmic retribution for it.

TL;DR rape is bad, and murder is also bad, and american horror films have 100s of problems, and people need to start voicing their opinions as opinions and not pretending they're facts because it's super fucking annoying

AOS thoughts 3x08-3x18

the latest in opinions no one asked for

Hunter’s hacker persona when they break into the ATCU is fantastic. Love Daisy feeding him hacker jargon as Mack pretends to be the FBI hotline. Lincoln looks impressed af and honestly me too. The team just doing classic spy hijinks is my fave.

Oof. I KNEW Rosalind and Coulosn wouldn’t end well. I was hoping they’d just have a “sorry it didn’t work out” sitch that ended with her put on a bus. But of course they fridged her. *eyeroll* It’s not as if Team Coulson doesn’t already have 1000 valid reasons to kill Ward.

A taste of DIRECTOR MACK this early? In season 3? Be still my beating heart.

God, these Malick’s stay annoying, don’t they? Although I think Nathaniel will still prove to be the most annoying.

Fitz is so SOFT for Jemma, and it’s really cute. Homeboy’s heart is breaking trying to help her with Will but he’ll just do whatever. Fitzsimmons is still far from being “the draw” for me like they are with most of the fandom, but I do enjoy them.

Kinda sad they killed Will off. He had the makings of being a good character. Now it just seems like he was contrived Fitzsimmons angst that they neutralized immediately.

Omg OF COURSE Hunter tried an Inhuman fish oil pill. That’s one of those little character things just thrown in that I love.

I’ve seen the Spy’s Goodbye in GIF form but I didn’t expect it to hit so hard? I nearly cried! I already miss Bobbi and Hunter so much.

Oooh! Surpise Bethany Joy Lenz! Is Haley James Scott here to fuck shit up?

I have a lot of thoughts about 3x15 in particular because I love this damn episode.

I love Coulson having trouble not calling Daisy “Skye.” The fact that he slipped up for the first time in awhile in this ep when telling her to come home really emphasizes their father/daughter relationship. Skye is the girl he found out in a van and “adopted.” So that’s who he thinks of when she’s going off into a more dangerous than usual situation.

Great job, effects people. Those fleshy skeletons Hive leaves behind genuinely squick me out.

Fitz explains the concept of space-time SO MUCH BETTER than anyone in Endgame did.

May and Andrew have such a beautiful, tragic story. Ming-Na Wen and Blair Underwood’s acting is just top notch.

Oh, Lincoln has indeed grown on me. I no longer find him boring. I still don’t think that he’s Daisy’s soulmate or anything (I think they’re both too similar in letting their emotions get the best of them that they wouldn’t have worked long-term even if he hadn’t died), but I do enjoy them. And they are sweet/helping each other grow even among the chaos.

Fitzsimmons in the “snowy” ashes saying “I think we’re supposed to hold hands now...maybe some things are inevitable” is lovely.

This stuff with Daisy and Charles Hinton is really sweet too, if devastating. He’s just so HAPPY he finally made a difference. And she’s promising to protect his daughter (not unlike the agent who protected baby Daisy). I’m EMOTIONAL.

Damn it. So much for Bethany Lenz fucking shit up. Fridged for Malick. I swear, when they introduced her in the stinger, they were implying that she would be just as formidable as her dad. But nope. Disappointing.

Oh that’s nice that they got the same dude to be young Gideon in S7 as they did in S3.

Eww Malick dying was gross. This show goes pretty hard with gore for a basic cable show.

YoYo and Mack learning each other’s languages. She was practicing “nice to see you again. You’re looking well” specifically for him? GIRL I LOVE?!!!!

Also God, I love Daisy as the leader of the Secret Warriors. The show is NOT going to give me enough of this. I already feel robbed.

Bruh, 3x17 was fantastically suspenseful. Who’s the mole? The Inhumans feeling hunted by SHIELD and trying to regroup. And Dark, Brainwashed Daisy is one of the things I knew was coming, but my jaw still dropped.

Wow, the team really doesn’t like Lincoln, do they? They’re doing everything to save infected Daisy but Coulson is willing to nuke Lincoln the second he gets infected? I’m glad May calls Coulson out on it. Also, Lincoln saying that he bets they’d like if he died so “you three can go back to being a small, messed up, family.” While I like the emphasis on them being a family (and doing the classic “I don’t like our daughter’s bf”), it seems a little unwarranted. Lincoln’s volatile, but I don’t think he’s any more chaotic than Daisy. And sure, he’s there for his girl and not the cause, but such was the case with Hunter and the only one who gave him shit for that was May. In this case it seems like so many--Coulson, May, Mack--are kinda just dealing with Lincoln for Daisy’s sake and I don’t know that strong of a dislike/distrust is earned.

However, it does make me smile thinking of the future in which everyone is on-board with Daisy/Sousa.

Mack saying “If [Dr. Radcliffe] is the only way to cure Tremors, you know where I stand” when it comes to Fitzsimmons performing unethical surgery. Listen, I know it’s protagonist-guided morality with how the team would flame anyone else for staking so much on one person vs the greater good, but honestly Daisy deserves people who love her that much. Who say “fuck it. You do what it takes to get her back.”

NEEDLE IN THE EYE. I DID NOT NEED THIS. Also omg, it’s Jonathan from The Mummy!

Rules for Requests

Hello all! I'm starting out this new blog as a way to get out some creative juices and enjoy some sweet sweet monster lovin' in my spare time. I haven't got much of that to speak of so before I even get into the rules proper I do ask that you please be patient with me. If I don't get to your request it may not mean I'm not responding at all. It could be I'm working on something and just haven't gotten around to finishing it.

Now, for the actual rules!

Common sense stuff:

Not all requests will get a response. Sorry, but this is out of necessity.

Please do not message repeatedly to try and get something written, it will not have a positive result for anyone.

If you want something specific, please do mention it in your ask. For example, if you request an alien lover but don't specify any specific attributes they should have, I will take artistic license with the alien. Make sure you're okay with that if you're not specific!

No kinkshaming, but also, respect my limits on what I will write. It's nothing personal, I've just got my squicks same as anyone.

If you are a TERF, SWERF, homophobe, racist, pedophile, DO NOT interact. Save us both some time and just go.

This blog is 18+. By staying on the blog/consuming the content posted by the blog you are consenting to see potentially adult themed material. If you're under 18 please go elsewhere.

Stuff I will do:

SFW and NSFW

Pretty much any monster. I may ask questions if I'm unfamiliar with a specific beastie, but I'll try anything once ;)

Ask simply means requests for clarification, say, for example, "You said any gender, but can you do someone who is questioning their gender?" (The answer to which is yes! Let me know what genders the person is questioning and the pronouns you'd like used so I can do your request respectfully!)

drabble: coming home.

(a follow-up to ursula breaking out of jail. the kyogre mentioned here belongs to @skypxllar.)

the newly minted sea-witch laughs as kyogre swims through the air. what a coup! in a matter of minutes she had gone from a downtrodden jailbird to one of the most powerful people in the world. she can crush anyone who ever hated her under kyogre’s fin--zoey, kenny, that guy on the street who gave her a funny look that one time…

her parents.

she clenches her fist atop the sea god’s back as she remembers what they had done to her. left her to rot in that godforsaken cell amongst murderers and rapists and just really annoying people in general. she ponders what fate she might bestow upon them…a drowning? no, too slow--their pain would be over within a minute. death by slicing? maybe not. too much gore. beating to death? that would work nicely, in return for all of the beatings they gave her, but mangled bodies squick her out…aha! she has it! maybe she can lock them in a room the same way she was locked in jail, and have her pokémon torture them. that way she can hear them screaming and begging for mercy without having to see any blood! fufufufufu…

as she nears her family’s private castle, however, something doesn’t feel right. killing her parents would be nice and all, but wasn’t that a bit too much too fast? maybe, if she’s to kill them at all, she should drag out their suffering. yes, keep them on this planet for a little bit longer and strip away everything that was important to them; watch as she pulled their lives down brick by brick until finally she locked them in those cells and dealt the excruciatingly drawn-out death blows. yes, that will be a much better end for them. it would take longer, but it would be so much more satisfying at every step.

“okay, now roar.” she grins. “that’ll scare them!”

kyogre lets out an ancient cry, a sound from the deep that shattered stained-glass windows and rattled the castle to its core. a few months ago ursula would have wailed aloud at the loss of such pretty windows--but she felt strangely alienated from this place now, as though it wasn’t really hers and she therefore didn’t have to care about its destruction. servants scramble for the doors; she knows her father is barking at them to stand and defend him with their lives. a few run to the now-broken windows to investigate the source of the noise, upon which they spot the monster from the primordial sea.

“what is it? WHAT THE HELL IS IT? why aren’t you going out there and SHOOTING IT?!” alexandre thunders at a guard. he is the man in power here; if the guard doesn’t answer satisfactorily, they know they’ll be beaten, or just as bad, fired.

“sir, it appears to be…kyogre. we can’t shoot a god.”

ursula draws on her gengar’s voice projection once again, bellowing her laugh to the sky.

“hark, you fools!” she cries. “did you think you get away with what you did? come out and face judgment for your crimes!”

his daughter. allied with a god. alexandre turns pale.

it’s not long before he and lila reach the bottom of the castle, peering up at the behemoth that towers over them. they can’t even see ursula’s face from that far below; she gives her edicts to them like an empress from on high.

“daughter,” lila begins. “dearest daughter.”

“daughter?” ursula scoffs. “how come i’m your daughter now? how come i wasn’t your daughter when you said i was ugly? how come i wasn’t your daughter when i was locked up in that miserable prison?”

“i am sorry to the bottom of my heart for not having rescued you from your ordeal,” lila calls, her voice perfunctory and cold, as hard as ice. “you must understand--it would not have done any good for your reputation as a princess of kalos to be saved so handily from the consequences of your actions.”

“oh, really. and why didn’t you give that excuse for all of the OTHER times i got in trouble? you helped me back then, didn’t you? why didn’t you help me now?” she smirks. the feeling of knowing that her mother doesn’t love her would send others into despair--but now, in this moment, it has given her such an incredible rush of power and control.

“my apologies, dear heart,” lila says, straining to keep her voice steady. “but the incident of your arrest was far beyond any previous incident thus far. after consultation with many of your father’s top officials--” a lie; they hadn’t consulted anyone at all--“we decided, with hearts as heavy as stone, that we would elect not to help you merely this once. we--”

but she’s interrupted as her husband falls to his knees and gives a piteous wail.

“oh, please, oh, please…” he whimpers. the man who had been ready to hit his guard a mere few moments earlier now begged for mercy to a power even higher than he. “we love you. don’t hurt us! PLEASE!”

“give me ONE GOOD REASON why i shouldn’t drown you two right here.” she doesn’t even want to drown them--that’s not part of her plan--but she just wants to see how they act. what a thrill it is, to see her parents like this, helpless before her as she laid out her commands, thinking that death is near at the hands of their own child…!

“i can’t. we deserve to be drowned, for what we did. we are worms--worthless worms--”

he kowtows, bowing over and over again, hitting his head on the ground repeatedly and soiling his $100,000 white silk suit in garden dirt. he doesn’t continue, as he is crying too hard to speak; she lets him, savoring the sound.

“but please,” he finally says. “please. i’m begging you. have mercy.”

“yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssss! YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!” she can’t control the laughter now; it comes in waves like the tide, rolling out into the surrounding air. “all these years, you, alexandre, have ignored me. all these years, you, mom, have treated me like dirt. when you left me all alone in jail, that made me realize how much you actually didn’t care about me. all the terrible people who did worse things than me got calls from their family and i didn’t, so obviously i’m not the problem here! bet you would have done differently if you knew i’d get the favor of the gods, wouldn’t you? ahahahahaha~!” she clasps her hands together. “you can’t change what you did now, though. too late~!”

“perhaps we could reach an agreement,” lila ventures, another lie about to leap off her tongue. “i had wanted to take you out of jail immediately, but it was alexandre who corrupted me. his malamar had me under his spell. and so i was cold to you, and did not love you as i should have. he’s the one responsible for your suffering, not me. if there’s anyone here that you should kill, it’s him. but let me live, and i will show you love as no mother has ever shown a child.”

“NO! YOU CAN’T! THAT’S NOT TRUE!” alexandre bellows. “lila HATES YOU! keeping you in jail was all her idea! in fact--actually, SHE was the one who possessed ME! with her chandelure!! please believe me. i don’t want to die, i don’t want to die, I DON’T WANT TO DIE--”

“it doesn’t matter which one of you is more responsible. you still both did it,” she snickers. “and now, you’re both going to die by my hand. KYOGRE! ORIGIN PULSE!”

she knows not what she asks for, lila thinks. the weight of all those responsibilities would crush her. but lila doesn’t care for the fact that her daughter is about to ruin her own life with so many positions of power. all she wants is to live.

hello and thank you for signing up for yuletide, i hope you have fun during the challenge!

i ramble a lot so my letter is under a readmore (i put everything in one post so you don’t have to juggle links around). obviously you don’t have to follow any of the things i put in here, but hopefully this will help you out!

general things i like

PINING. I’M SUCH A SLUT FOR PINING ALL THE PINING ULTRA PINING SUPER PINING. i have SO MUCH FUN reading about idiots in love who aren’t together yet and i far prefer it to fics with already established relationships. this is also applicable to when they know the other is in love with them but they can’t act on it for some reason.

i’m down for either gen or romantic!! what really does it for me is the developing relationship, platonic or otherwise, and the character dynamics and interactions and all the little moments in between. stuff like developing trust and finding kinship and growing respect for the other and subconsciously learning to lean on the other over anyone else is far more important for me than any kissing will ever be (though kissing is also nice if you wanna go down that route lmao)

i love love LOVE enemies/rivals-?to-friends?-to-lovers and bickering pairs in general, as you can probably tell by my choice in character! it’s so much fun and it gives us so many opportunities for character and relationship developments :D

continuing from the above points, nothing kills me as much as characters that bicker all the time but in the end they rely on the other and go to each other before they go to anyone else, whether they realize it or not

i REALLY like the canon and characters for all the fandoms i picked, so sticking at least to their characterizations and the overall “tone” of canon is a huge plus!! “missing scenes” and “what if” canon-divergent situations are excellent, as are continuations from where canon left us! that being said, i also enjoy more conceptual AUs and i’ve put more details about those a little further below. rule of thumb is that i enjoy AUs where the focus remains more on the relationship itself and how it works on such a setting than on the worldbuilding for it.

fun tropes i enjoy (sorry, these are a bit romance-leaning but if you’re not into that they can probably be adapted somehow): fake dating, accidentally got roped into x and shenanigans of all sorts keep happening, misunderstood confessions, groundhog day au, one or both the characters having stupid levels of denial while technically in a relationship and just not realizing it like What Do You Mean We’re Dating??, that sorta thing.

TROPE SUBVERSION ALL THE WAY!

general things i dislike

kidfics. babyfics. next gen fics. pregnancy fics, or even pregnancy discussed in the fic is a major squick of mine. the one exception i make for kidfics is for petshop of horrors when it comes to chris and the pets, as they already belong in canon, but no babies or children otherwise please.

future fics in general, actually. what i enjoy is the relationship development, so huge time skips make me feel like we missed way too much. one exception to this is post-canon petshop of horrors, for obvious reasons.

i usually don’t like most angst stuff since it feels a bit gratuitous to me when it comes to most fandoms and characters. the one exception for this is psoh (see below if you’re picking this fandom - and wow psoh seems to be the exception to everything huh) or when it’s a more introspective sort of fic. as a result of this, i’d pass on most content with major character death, sexual abuse, self-harm, the like, though of course there are always exceptions to the rule and you’re free to write as you wish!

hard AUs are a bit ugh to me. by this i mean AUs that rely heavily on setting, such as high school AUs, harry potter AUs, that sort of thing. i DO however enjoy stuff like siren AUs and soulmate AUs, depending on the concept and on the fandom. more details in their own sections if you enjoy writing those!

i heavily dislike things involving cheating/infidelity, sickfics, and genderbending of any kind is a bit ehhhh for me, as are concepts such as ABO. hard pass on stuff like dysphoria and deep diving into most mental illnesses, too (with a possible exception for depression when it comes to psoh).

script-based or roleplay fic is not really my preferred format, i really enjoy prose instead of nearly all dialogue!

PETSHOP OF HORRORS

i’m usually not very partial to angst but GODS does psoh throw that out of the window, so feel more than free to run with it if you wanna go down that route. psoh is RIPE for angst. we got two people with abandonment and inadequacy issues: leon who decided to leave his whole life behind to chase someone who gave him life and then left and initially didn’t even bother to do it with any sort of goodbyes, and d who is supremely fucked up by his upbringing and had to push leon off the ark to continue his family’s mission and let drop one (1) single tear that he was not supposed to cry over a human. those fuckers. those idiots. i love them so much.

THAT BEING SAID, i also!!!! love slice of life shit for them!!!!!!!! GODS i love how much they bicker but then they turn around and the other is the person they rely on the most and who they trust implicitly above all others and how they keep roping each other into ridiculous shenanigans. neither of them are particularly communicative with a few rare exceptions, so there’s also a lot of room there for introspection and unspoken affection on both sides, which i LOVE. my son leon in particular is also super underestimated when it comes to his intelligence and tolerance for gay shit both in canon and fandom, and he performs ridiculous leaps of logic and instinct that somehow turn out to be right but that are super ???? for everyone else involved, and that’s always fun to see. hell, just another missing scene where leon brings d some cake and they banter fondly over tea is A++++ to me!!

nsfw???? bring it!!! this is the one fandom where you’re more than free to go super dark and kinky if you wanna, or if you wanna write tender loving reunion sex where d cries a little while leon is loving and disbelieving and so very careful that’s also excellent! i don’t have a particular preference on who tops either, it’s fun either way, but i tend to see leon more as a sub/masochist >u> i can also see it going a bit dark with those two, especially considering d and his kind (implied to eat human flesh and being predators more than once) so bloodplay and cannibalistic thoughts could be fun. re: d’s genitals (as are hotly debated in the fandom), i usually prefer either a dick or triple threat d, though some fun plant-man shenanigans also have their place here.

all in all, psoh is the most excellent genre triangle where i’d be super happy to receive anything on the slice-of-life/angst/smut corners! (also, slash is 3249823% acceptable if you couldn’t tell by my ranting, as is a hint of crack)

if you’re thinking going AU on this one, my suggestions are of slight universe alterations instead of major world AUs. examples could be soulmate AUs (trope subversion would be GREAT here, aka foreign script they didn’t initially recognize, or only Ds having soulmates while humans do not, or the same scenario as the last but leon DOES have it on his skin and just keeps it hidden because Normal Humans Don’t Have Birth Tattoos, or d never expected to have one because his kind is dead and yet when he pushes leon from the ark the soulmate bond is forged, etc), a different first meeting, or even missed connections when they did not know each other yet; something like papa being alive and brady bunch-ing it up with them and chris would also be both excellent and hilarious. epistolary form for those two is also fun! if you wanna go full universe AU, something like a vampire hunter leon could be very interesting >u>

SPINNING SILVER

WHERE DO I EVEN START. miryem and the staryk lord were my favourite part of the book; if the book was only their story i would have already been more than satisfied. the rest of the book is also excellent, but those two???? that story was far too great. enemies to allies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, and this is one of the examples that just keeps proving me right. the slowly growing respect, the wariness when they both know what the other is capable of, the staryk lord getting hit with the hots for his wife when she manages the impossible and then miryem being unable to just let it go when he’s imprisoned and defeated. ACTUALLY lemme just grab that line of thought and bring up that moment when he was sorrowful and resigned when miryem didn’t argue further for the three rooms full of gold and he thought she would not succeed and that she would have to die for it. that, right there? those moments of renewed respect, those moments sudden longing for something they did not know they wanted? those are the things that kill me.

tonally, i love the sort of writing in canon too much to ask for anything different, though you’re by no means obliged to keep to it or to 1st person pov (i have a love-hate relationship with 1st person pov, ngl). missing moments from the novel or moments from the period of time they spent either courting or apart would be GREAT. for those two i actually don’t mind it too much if they’re already established, if it’s early on in the relationship when they’re still learning how to step around one another. the staryk lord flabbergasted or in awe of miryem is always Excellent(TM). bits of worldbuilding and staryk culture would be fun as applied to their relationship (such as the names thing, or courting habits, etc) as are AUs such as soulmates or alternate meetings and the like. if you’re wanting to go full universe AU, keeping some fairytale elements would be great!

if you’re going for nsfw? the name kink, holy shit that would be so goooood. the staryk lord being a bit of a masochist under miryem’s hands would also be great, and inhuman staryk genitals and erogenous zones/acts would be great to play with such as human body heat affecting them in different ways from normal, etc. bringing in his long hair would be a major plus. the build-up for the actual act is the best, so miryem and the staryk lord being super hot for each other while either denying it internally pre-relationship or being unable to go through with it post-relationship due to several factors (busy dealing with their people, no privacy, etc) would be EXCELLENT. so much fun can be had here!

PRINCESS AND THE FROG

i am 100% aware this is a weird-ass pairing but gods, the possibilities. it has so much potential. there are few things i like quite as much as a villain and a good person developing a strange sort of kinship with each other. this doesn’t have to mean in a romantic way, obviously! as i said, for me it’s the building understanding and reluctant respect that i really love, far more than the actual romance.

ideas, ideas, ideas. i’m aware this is a rare relationship to either portray or ask for, so i’m gonna try to give some more concrete-ish ones for you to build up on if you have no clue as to how to approach this. we could have canonverse with charlotte dealing with the shadowman in some other matter while the main plot is occurring, making him feel somewhat guilty about the whole marriage plot with laurence-turned-naveen; cue introspection or an entirely different outcome. or a post-canon sort of hades&persephone plot, with charlotte curious despite herself and tempted to listen to a shadow/dead/whatever!dr facilier when she’s the only one that can hear him, or her being dragged Beneath as well in a freak accident and then charming him into helping her back to the surface/living world (very, veeeeery reluctantly on his part, at least at the start, he might have even be thinking of tricking her but then change his mind when the time comes to do it). i think dr facilier wouldn’t be sure how to deal with charlotte’s particular brand of personality and good humour, and it’d throw him off his rhythm a lot - that sort of thing is always super fun to write.

soulmate au in canon would work pretty well, but with this pairing? FULL WORLD AU IS YOURS FOR THE TAKING. keeping to the shadowman sort of thing to her normal bougie self would be a major plus; it’s one of her charms. also, charlotte thinking that she wants one thing (her prince, for example) while keeping getting drawn to him time and time again could work on pretty much any era or setting. vice-versa for him, thinking he wants to be rid of her but coming to realize he’d actually miss her if she were to be gone. OR, charlotte deciding she wants this sullen manipulative bastard and manipulating HIM into taking her out and hanging out with her would be hilarious.

if you wanna do nsfw, i have only one major request: charlotte calling the shots/topping. i think this arrangement would be entirely in character for both of them (dr facilier would prob also enjoy having someone else do all the work lol) considering her go-getter attitude, but keeping in mind his manipulative personality i’d be more comfortable if she had some control over what was happening. ASIDE FROM THAT, dyou know what would be fun? a little darkness, and by that i mean consider dr facilier’s shadow joining in on the fun. shadows would also be an interesting sort of constraint. also i know i said charlotte calling the shots, but she can be constrained by the shadows while being amused by it or being used for it to happen (the latter case implying it’s not the first time that they’ve used it in bed play), or charlotte could team up with Shadow to do it to facilier instead. charlotte using her nails and facilier being a bit of a sub/masochist would also be pretty good!

(actually in general it’d be really fun if there was some complicity between charlotte and facilier’s shadow in general, regardless of nsfw or not. the shadow being wrapped around her little finger is an excellent concept, especially if facilier isn’t too fond of her just yet lmfao.)

Dude, as a 16 year old, I know how to read some damn tags. If it’s tagged correctly and I see shit I don’t like, I don’t read and then complain about it. Ain’t nobody forcing you to read anything. You don’t like explicit sex? Gore? It’s tagged. Don’t click on an explicit sex fic, for example. Explicit means minors shouldn’t read it. Stop using minors so you can blame other people for your browsing. Explicit fics are not for minors anyway. Learn not to click things you know you won’t like!

I’m sorry if that was harsh. But I constantly get people complaining that my fic has gore when it’s tagged! It’s even explicit just in case. You have no idea how frustrating it is to see ‘protect the baby minors’ as an excuse to harass authors when I am an actual minor constantly harassed for ‘icky gore’ or whatever. Just stop. Don’t like, don’t read. If you don’t like it, it squicks, it’s amoral, whatever, just don’t harass authors. You don’t know why someone writes what they do.

So yeah please don’t try to use me to shut down AO3. That is not cool. Stay away from explicit fic or whatever you don’t like. Don’t hate authors who tagged properly because you can’t control what you click on and read through on your own time. People were also comparing it to sexual assault and that is disgusting and harmful. So stop. You are not helping.

Alright there’s a lot going on here and I’m probably not going to address all of it cuz I don’t have that kind of time but here are a few things

You’re saying this isn’t helping but I’m basing this on my own experience of when I was a kid and a teenager on here. At 21 I can look back and I can tell what would have helped me and surprise, it’s not “being subjected every day to violent stories about teens being raped and abused” its actually “this shit being locked way far back where I couldn’t find it”. So it’s not “using you to make a point” lol it’s looking back and realizing teenagers shouldn’t be exposed to this shit

I was not thinking about 16 years old producing explicit content (because that’s literally always going to happen and also imo its fully another issue), I’m thinking more of fully grown adults writing pedo fics of teenagers being violently abused and hurt in various ways- and this then being normalized by sites like AO3 that refuse to take down, for example, a multi-chapter story of a 17-year-old boy forced into being fucked by dogs by his father, tagged in a fandom targeted to teens and pre-teens. Which is when a stupid “are you 18? :)” warning is really useless because it shouldn't exist, it shouldn’t be written by a 40-year-old because it is literally pedophilia! It’s not assault but it’s still violent. Minors reading it is really the worst case scenario, but in ANY case, it should not be available! to anyone!

You can’t say “it’s amoral, whatever” when it is, like, literally it is! you really can’t expect people to not react to that? please.

Its good that you can read the tags and decides its not for you and back off, but it doesn’t always work that way, especially when its fucking everywhere on a fully open platform where minors go like AO3. I don’t think you pretending everyone is in your situation, and that there’s no reason to question the negative impact of a website that exposes children to violent and explicit content daily, is helping very much either.

The whole “don’t like dont read” means nothing when the content shouldn’t exist in the first place. Slapping a warning on something vile doesn’t make it suddenly alright. And don’t write awful shit if you don’t want people pointing out that yeah, it is awful

Anyway the end all be all of this whole thing is that adults shouldn’t be allowed to write and produce any sexually explicit content about children and feel fine about it and AO3 enables that so it should die.

I can’t explain this topic very well but the idea is that, for us to ship our characters, they must have a dynamic that can be used as a base and we should either plot it or be in tune. Sometimes people just go *squeal* over a pairing at the same time! I would not object to plotting a ship from a time the characters are not that fond of each other, but that would require the same feeling of companionship between the two of us as writers as other ships do.

When I ship with someone, it applies only to their interpretation of that character and not with another. I see no sense in doing it differently! In fact, if we get to that stage, I would rather be exclusives with you and rp only with your portrayal of the character in question in the sense of developing this dynamic over different situations, verses, etc.

hey, i looked at your rules page, but i was also wondering about the statuses of nsfw (of teenagers) and adult-kid relationships-- are those things allowed or does all that count under "don't be nasty"? im REALLY sorry to ask something that should be obvious in such a pointed way lol but You Know How It Is Sometimes :(

Hi, anon! Thank you for the ask, tbh, because I’ve been thinking on this for a while and you finally kicked my butt into figuring out how to word my stances on these things!

Disclaimer: A lot of this is based off how I interact with fandom on a daily basis, so I understand if it turns some away from participating

On the topic of NSFW:

There will be a blanket ban on Explicit sexual NSFW of any character.

Writers can, however, still have any characters discuss sex/related topics

Non-sexual NSFW, such a gore, will not be restricted at this time.

On the topic of adult-minor relationships:

Not blanket banned, but this an item where the dark themes rules come into play: not only will they have to trigger and squick warn for it, but they will also have to treat it realistically and respectfully as a dark theme.

Including it as just a nomal, casual thing will be banned – as it’s a major squick and I wouldn’t be able to even read a summary with that included.

Ahhh. Here we are again. The roses have been laid, the spreadsheets created, and... do I smell chocolate? It is, once again, your favorite time of year, MY favorite time of year... Dralentine's Day 2017!

To seasoned gifters and new drifters, welcome! If you don't already know, Dralentine's Day was created by @ourloveislegendrarry (dat me) for Valentine's Day 2015, as a way to bring the drarry squad together and spread the love, and it was such a huge success that I decided to make it an annual event! I know that Valentine's Day can be a stressful or even sometimes triggering time for those of us who don't have anyone to celebrate with. It's basically like Secret Santa, where our gifters send in their art, in whatever form that may be (pic/fic/edit), and I assign their gift anonymously to another gifter! Everyone who submits a gift, gets a gift - but if you're not submitting this year, no worries! All of the gifts will always be posted here for your perusing. Please, please remember, though - ALL GIFTS WILL BE POSTED ANONYMOUSLY, and SHOULD REMAIN ANONYMOUS until exactly one month after Valentine's Day. Don't ruin the fun!!

Of course, Dralentine's Day is not Dralentine's Day without our lovely gifters, so, if you'd like to participate by writing a fic, drawing a picture, or making an edit, please send a little heart (emojis, emoticons, and the simple but classic <3 are all accepted) to our inbox ( @dralentines-day )! Please do only send a heart when you are SURE you will be able to make a gift of some sort. I know things happen, and you can absolutely message me and pull out if the circumstances are extreme. I just don't want to end up empty handed when the day to turn in your gift comes, so please try to let me know ASAP if you need to withdraw your promise to participate.

RULES

FOR FICS:

1. Between 2,000 and 30,000 words, please! The only exception to this is if you are writing a small ficlet to go along with a pic/edit. In that case, you have no word minimum!

2. Smut is a-okay, but please LET ME KNOW when you turn in your fic that it contains smut. It's not everybody's thing, and I just want everyone to feel safe & loved!!!

3. Happy endings only! This is a happy holiday, so angst is okay, but keep it to a minimum!

4. Your gift must not have been posted anywhere else on the internet, at any time. Make something new!

5. Have fun! I'm serious. This is a rule. FOR PICS: 1. No dicks. I'm so sorry. I really, truly am. Booty is always, always welcome.

2. Nothing to graphic and obviously nothing containing blood, guts, or gore. I don't think I have to say that, but you never know?

Please please please STAY ANONYMOUS. The big reveal when you can let your giftee know who you are and post your gift anywhere you'd like will be March 14th, exactly one month after Dralentine's Day.

First of all, good for you! You're so awesome and productive!

Now that you're ready to present your gift to the world (see what I did there?), you gotta send it to us! All things should be sent to [email protected]. Here's what should be included in that email:

1. Your pic/fic/edit. Duh.

2. Your URL.

3. A short description. Required for a fic, optional for a pic or an edit.

4. Word count (does not apply to pictures!!! :P).

5. A little note to your giftee! Remember, the whole thing will be anonymous, so you won't know who your giftee is until after your gift is posted, and they won't know who you are until the big reveal! Keep it general!

6. Does your fic contain smut? Any possible squicks? Anything else I should know about?

7. Is there anything else you'd like to include?

8. Is there any kind of gift you would not be comfortable receiving (i.e. smut, mpreg, etc.)? Any preferences?

Dear Yuletide Author

thank you for signing up for yuletide, i hope you have fun!

i’ve put all my letters in one place so you don’t have to juggle links around, feel free to send me an anon (is that allowed?) if you’re in doubt as to whether i’d like a certain trope or not! (and so sorry about all the ranting oops)

things i like in general:

pining. TONS of pining. ALL the pining! i have a lot more fun reading about idiots in love that aren’t together yet than if they’re already in an established relationship

i’m good with either gen or romance if you’re not comfortable with shippy stuff! what really works for me is the relationship itself, platonic or not, the development of it, and the interactions/feelings regarding the other. when it comes to the characters i’ve picked, for me it makes sense for them to develop trust and fondness/affection for the other before they get into any sort of relationship so gen is all good!

i’m veeeeeery fond of enemies/rivals-to-friends-to-lovers, and bickering pairs overall (as you can see by all my choices in characters lmfao) since they’re so much fun and provide such an opportunity for character and relationship development :D

continuing from above, nothing kills me as much as characters that bicker all the time but in the end they rely on the other and go to each other before they go to anyone else

conceptual AUs are fine! by this i mean stuff like soulmate AUs, AUs where they met differently from canon, i’m-your-next-door-neighbour-and-i-had-to-break-into-your-flat-to-get-my-cat-back AUs, canon divergence, that kind of thing - AUs like that are super fun!

fun tropes (sorry, these are a bit romance-heavy): fake dating, “accidentally got roped into x thing and shenanigans are happening”, What Do You Mean We’re Not Dating?, “oh no there’s only one bed”, misunderstood confessions, trope subversion in general is also GREAT

i REALLY like the canon and characters for all the fandoms i picked, so sticking at least to their characterisations and the overall “tone” of canon are a huge plus!! “missing scenes” and “what if” canon-divergent situations are excellent but like i said, i also like conceptual AUs so don’t be afraid to mix up the scenario a bit if you enjoy it, because i do too!

things i don’t like a lot in general:

kidfics. unless it’s petshop of horrors - where Chris and the pets are an exception - next gen and stuff are a pass for me

far into the future fics in general, actually - what really does it for me is the development, so if we skip ahead to much later on i feel like we end up missing it all

i usually don’t like most angst stuff since it feels a bit gratuitous to me when it comes to most fandoms and characters. the one exception for this is psoh (see below if you’re picking this fandom) or when it’s introspection fic. as a result of this, i’d pass on most content with major character death, sexual abuse, self-harm, the like, though of course there are always exceptions to the rule and you’re free to write as you wish!

hard AUs are a bit ehhh to me - by this i mean world-heavy stuff like harry potter AUs, where the focus ends up more on the setting than the characters more often than not. i’d also pass on high school AUs (gsnk being the obvious exception) and ABO.

i heavily dislike things involving cheating/infidelity, and genderbending is a bit ehhhh for me

script-based or roleplay fic is not really my preferred format, i really enjoy prose instead of nearly all dialogue!

if you’re going for nsfw:

kinks: moderate sadism/masochism, bondage, choking/breathplay, xenophilia and tentacles (which only make sense here for like... 1.5 fandoms lmfao), moderate degradation, edging

squicks: scat, vomit, praise kink, daddy or baby kink, vore, forced feminization, pet play, gore

PETSHOP OF HORRORS

i’m usually not partial to angst AT ALL but psoh is the one fandom where i don’t mind it if you wanna go ahead - psoh is RIPE for angst. we got two people with abandonment and inadequacy issues: leon who decided to leave his whole life behind to chase someone who gave him life and left him after thinking that he didn’t care for him at all, and d who is supremely fucked up by his upbringing and had to push leon off the ark to continue his family’s mission and let drop one (1) single tear that he was not supposed to cry over a human.

THAT BEING SAID, i also!!!! love slice of life shit for them!!!!!!!! GODS i love how much they bicker but then they turn around and the other is the person they rely on the most and who they trust above all others and how they keep roping each other into ridiculous shenanigans. neither of them are particularly communicative with a few rare exceptions, so there’s also a lot of room for introspection there on both sides, which i LOVE. my son leon in particular is also super underestimated when it comes to his intelligence and tolerance for gay shit both in canon and fandom, and he performs ridiculous leaps of logic and instinct that somehow turn out to be right but that are super ???? for everyone else involved, and that’s always fun to see. hell, just another missing scene where leon brings d some cake and they banter fondly over tea is A++++ to me!!

nsfw???? bring it!!! this is the fandom amongst these three where you’re free to go super dark and kinky if you wanna, or if you wanna write tender loving reunion sex where d cries a little while leon cherishes every bit of him that’s also excellent!

psoh is the most excellent genre triangle where i’d be super happy to receive anything on the slice-of-life/angst/smut corners! (also, slash is 3249823% acceptable if you couldn’t tell by my ranting)

GEKKAN SHOUJO NOZAKI-KUN

yuzuki seo is my absolute favourite character on the series and i love her and how ridiculous she is! waka is also gr9, and i really love that little sadist streak he has going like when he kept teasing seo with his “confessions”, that was probably one of my favourite chapters!

for gnsk either canon-verse or a conceptual AU would be excellent - if you’re going AU, i’m very fond of those where seo is a siren/mermaid and possibly man-eating (because those are the best kind amirite??) canon-wise i LOVE their interactions and how waka keeps accidentally getting taken on lowkey dates while resolutely defending they’re not even friends and even more accidentally retributing those with thoughtful gifts and the like haha

another thing i love is when waka is capable of looking past appearances to see seo, like in the chapter where they gave her the “lorelei” makeover and no one recognized her but him. i also love how stupidly happy seo is whenever she sees waka, it’s so cute!!

HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE

the thing i like the most in hmc are the characters’ flaws! i love the ghibli movie, don’t get me wrong, but they took away the bits i liked the most - sophie’s stubbornness and nosiness and temper and howl’s cowardice and vanity and his silver-tongue whenever he tries to slither around sophie, and all their banter and arguing.

there’s nothing quite like their stupid arguments where sophie pretends she didn’t mess around with things she shouldn’t and howl is torn between being amused and exasperated at her expense - even better if he’s trying to do something good sneakily behind her back so he won’t be accused of being a good person before he finds another excuse to justify it.

for this fandom i’d really prefer it if it were from anywhere from the beginning of the first book to before their marriage (i haven’t read the sequels and prefer non-established relationship anyway), but a conceptual AU would also be pretty nice! hmc in particular is very good for trope subverting, which i’m extremely fond of! for example, take a soulmate AU with the first words written on the skin thing: we could mess it up a bit since calcifer was in possession of howl’s heart and as such his first words would be on sophie instead of howl’s - cue shenanigans while sophie wonders how someone can have a soulmate bond with a sentient fire with no words of his own, howl panics internally about sophie not returning his mark, and so on!

another thing i love about the book is the writing style and that incredible sense of humour in the writing, so something lighthearted and in the spirit of canon would be great!
