hi kieran ! re: oc talk. valen, my beloved! can you please tell me what kind of music valen listens to & really enjoys ? 🎶

Hiii, thank you for the ask, Sam! 🖤 I actually had to think semi-intensely for this because Valen was being difficult with me and didn't want to tell me what sort of music he likes right away 😂

Valen is honestly pretty non-picky when it comes to music. There's not much that he dislikes and there's an awful lot that he does like. Some of his preferences include electronica, techno, house, Latin pop, Reggaeton, etc. Basically songs that are good for dancing to, driving to, doing chores to, and most importantly, fighting to. He's a little similar to me in that he likes having music in the background for a lot of things he does on a daily basis 🙂‍↕️

Latin pop, Reggaeton, and EDM are also typically what plays in the bars/clubs he visits so imagine him in there sneakily Shazaming whatever is playing to save for himself. ALSO imagine this 6'5" broody grump of a man just gyrating his hips around to a particularly bouncy song 🙂‍↕️ so, naturally, Valen has his own playlists he's made and they're mixes of his favorite genres. Some examples of said songs: ×, ×, ×, ×, ×, ×

LASTLY he also tends to listen to a lot of classic/alternative rock and that's mostly because a lot of his loved ones listen to that specific genres and so he ends up listening to it, too! Another outlier is blues-y folk because his mom liked listening to it, so it's sort of a sentimental thing for him

What do your OCs think of magic - and magic-users?

Thank you so much for the ask! This was a fun one to think about because it let me worldbuild a little, too 💜

So, magic is very real in my worldbuilding - witches/warlocks/magic users exist alongside vampires and lycans and humans. They're born with the inherent ability to use magic (it's genetic) and there's a wide variety when it comes to what type of magic they can use. A lot of the magic worldbuilding is handled by @noirapocalypto, who I often create with, so the majority of these ideas belong to them!

As for Valen, he's unfazed by magic for the most part. He's known his whole life that magic exists and while he, himself, has not known many magic users on a personal level, it's not something he's particularly scared of. He becomes even more comfortable with it when he meets @noirapocalypto 's Salem, who is a warlock, and the two of them become extremely close. Salem routinely casts magic on Valen, whether it be protection spells, or healing spells, or other various magic activities 🙂‍↕️

Valen actually enjoys the sensation of magic - warm, tingle-y, safe, pleasant - but only because it's someone close to him casting the magic and he trusts him. He would certainly not have the same reaction to a stranger or acquaintance randomly casting a spell on him, hoo boy. There may or may not be hell to pay in that situation, though not because he's disdainful of magic or magic users, but rather because someone pushed a boundary

Oc question coming up! I know Valen likes surfing, but how did he get into it? What made him decide to give it a try?

So, Valen first got into surfing around fourteen and it was entirely accidental. Being a teenager, both easily impressed and easily impressionable, when Valen saw a boy that he fancied hauling a bright blue and white surfboard down to the beach, he was of course intrigued. He followed him down to the water and in an attempt to flirt, let the other boy try teach him to surf

Long story short, Valen ended up liking surfing far more than he did the boy 😂 he turned out to be as interesting as a brick wall and they didn't vibe well together once they had actually spent time with each other. As for the surfing part, Valen liked it immensely - he wasn't fantastic at it to begin with, but he got his own board and kept practicing until he was great at it. He'd spend entire days (the ones where his dad didn't haul him to the clubhouse for work) down at the beach learning all the little tricks and techniques. And once he tired himself out, he'd just lie there on the board with his long ass legs hanging into the water until it was dark out
