looking for pet pictures to use as references!

i just texted my cousin asking for pics of her dog to use as a reference for a linocut print, but while i wait for her to respond....if you have a dog or cat feel free to send me pics of them if you would be ok with me turning them into a linocut!

since these would ultimately be turned into hand-pulled prints, you'd need to be ok with me marketing and selling these designs on greeting cards and other types of printed goods!

examples of the types of references that work best for me below the cut:

the best photo references are typically ones with good lighting and the pet in clear focus

make sure your camera lens is clean by wiping it off prior to taking a photo, so the quality isn't blurry or muddy from fingerprints!

taking photos in natural lighting is usually best (near a window or outside during the day) but artificial lighting at night can also work if the room is bright enough

the pet's pose is also somewhat important too! but it's not a priority, especially if you send me multiple nice pictures of the pet (i can improvise a brand new composition as long as i know what the pet's markings look like)

guitar teacher!ellie x smartass!reader thank you for all the meet-cute requests @thatdammchickennugget -- they are my absolute favorite and this one is a classic. i plopped a lot of my real life into this lmao. i kinda wanna do a spicy part 2 here. idk. we'll see!

you wait with bated breath inside the cramped, soundproof lesson room at your local music store, where you signed up on a whim to learn the guitar. it’s an impulse decision, really—all but doomed to be just another tick off the ever-expanding list of random cool skills you’ve tried. at the very least, you hope maybe you can whip this one out to “impress the ladies.” maybe even serenade them with some songs and actually sound good doing it—lord knows many have endured the clunky chords of a red hot chili peppers song from some mediocre man already.

you clutch your new guitar semi-awkwardly, plucking the strings and lightly tapping the cool basswood. you can tell that the tune is off, but damn if you know how to fix it. you wonder if you’ll abandon it after the first 40 minutes, just like most other hobbies you’ve sampled.

in your hasty decision-making, you hadn’t even requested a specific teacher. you’d only ever seen middle-aged men employed here, which is fine. you trust their experience, picturing some warm-hearted old rocker coming in and showing off his tried-and-true tricks. what you don’t expect, then, is when the door opens and a girl your age enters the room, extending her hand to shake yours.

“hi, my name is ellie. you’re the one here to learn guitar, right?”

you shake her hand, eyes glancing over her form, trying not to seem like a dumbfounded creep. jeez, she’s cute. she has reddish-brown hair in a choppy bob, freckled cheeks, green eyes, and a dorky smile. she’s adorned in a faded blue jacket rolled up to her elbows, revealing arm tattoos, and a ragged t-shirt with a band you’ve never heard of. and this is the cutie who will watch you fiddle with out-of-tune strings and act like a complete dumbass? you half hope the ground will swallow you whole.

“yeah,” you manage to reply once you remember how to speak. “that’s me. word of warning: i really don’t know what i’m doing, so i’m, like, a total beginner.”

ellie chuckles reassuringly, likely having heard that tired statement a million times over. she gently picks the guitar up from your lap, inspecting its quality. of course, in her hands, the instrument looks like it was made to be held by her. “hey, that’s fine. everyone starts somewhere, right?” she gets to tuning the strings as naturally as breathing.

“so, what’s got you interested in learning?” ellie suddenly asks, just to fill the dense silence of the room. your mouth runs dry, struggling with a response that doesn’t sound as idiotic as “i’m an obnoxious flirt.” she catches onto your fumbling, adding, “what? wanting to look like a badass guitar god, hm?”

“calling yourself a badass, then?” the tongue-in-cheek question escapes before you can rein it in. ellie pauses her tuning to look up at you, and your heart drops to your stomach. she’s going to kick you out, you reckon.

“i mean… you are staring at me with your mouth open. must be in awe of my guitarist badassery or something. i don’t mind,” ellie replies with a knowing, smug smile, then returns to helping your sorry ass tune up your guitar.

yep, you definitely need that hole in the ground right now.

after that rocky introduction, the lesson takes on a more professional atmosphere, with ellie explaining the basics. she teaches you about the body of the instrument, the strings, and some basic history—you name it, and she knows it. it’s clear that ellie is enthusiastic about the guitar, her interest rubbing off on you, which does not help your case with how cute you already find her.

you try your best to be a good student, which isn’t the energy you typically bring to all your other short-lived courses. there is something special about ellie’s passion—how her lips move as she speaks about it, how her eyes light up, her fingers curling against the strings while demonstrating songs—it compels your attention. you listen respectfully to the multitude of rambles she embarks on and cuts short whenever ellie realizes she has led you too astray from the basics.

at approximately the 38th minute of the 40-minute lesson, you realize that you haven’t attempted to actually play the damn thing. ellie must have come to the same realization, flashing a tilted smile, hoping you aren’t too annoyed that this instructional course devolved into a ted talk, a worry she couldn’t possibly be more wrong about.

ellie assists your clumsy self in positioning the guitar onto your lap, showing you how to hold it correctly. the closeness has your heart racing, and every touch sends shivers through you—you hope the internal gay panic doesn’t translate outwardly. ellie takes her time helping you press your fingers onto the correct strings and frets to play a simple “c chord.” her fingers guiding yours with such precision causes your thoughts to veer into thousands of inappropriate possibilities. the pose feels a tad contorted, your fingers placed in a way totally foreign to you, but her reassurance builds your confidence to try. she crouches before you, making final adjustments before her greens glance back up to you expectantly, waiting for you to try.

you strum the one chord—a passable sound that resonates throughout the guitar. it gets the job done but, of course, lacks the flow that ellie could have had. but ellie is proud, her genuine smile and silly applause flustering you.

you find yourself feeling more accomplished in this single instance than in the last three skills you’ve tried combined.

“good start, guitar god. i’ll show you another one—if you think you’ll stick to a second lesson,” ellie then suggests, an endearing smile on her face as she watches you absent-mindedly fiddle with the individual strings a bit more. an effective bargaining tactic for sure.

“yep, no problem.” easiest commitment you’ve ever made.

"hell yeah," ellie rejoices, reaching out one last time to high-five you. she looks delighted. just happy to have a new, consistent student, of course--that has to be it.

you sign up for another lesson after—and maybe another. and another.

So, I decided to try something new: a daily routine challenge. Why? Because my life felt like an unfinished jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces are just slightly bent. It was time to attempt the impossible—becoming that person who has their life together. You know the type: the ones who drink lemon water in the morning and don’t hit snooze 12 times.

mack!!! ik its been a while since you posted your photography portfolio but recently ive found myself going back to it and taking some inspiration from it. i was curious what kind of techniques you used and what processes you kinda went through while making some of the pieces?

OMG REALLY?????? not just being modest but i genuinely think some of it is pretty mediocre, so i'm happy you like it! idk which ones you mean in paticular but some of the more *experimental* ones -

these ones (ignore the bad image quality lol)

are photograms!! my school has a darkroom which is pretty cool and was wonderful to be able to use!! the main objects in these are actually locks of my hair (i kept if after i got it cut), and after i exposed that onto the paper, instead of just submerging it into the developer i painted it in with a big brush to get the sort of splashed effects (photograms are kind of a thing you need a darkroom for, but you can get paper you can expose with just the sun.)

the bottom left ones are a picture of a picture frame printed out onto transparent plastic, top left are just developer onto the paper with no objects.

i scanned them all and put them into photoshop & upped the contrast, flipped the colours of one furthest - the pinkish bits i did in photoshop, they're kind of pixel-ey which i thought was cool

the one with the key and the ribbon - the ribbon was another photo which i photoshopped around badly on purpose so it was super grainy with lots of leftover pixels around the edge, which i then overlaid on the scan of the photogram with the key (below right is close up of the computery texture i managed to get while fiddling around with curves (idk what exactly curves is but it was like... adjusting contrast & colours at the same time)

these ones (again sorry blurry picture) are a light shining through cd cases from the back, which i then edited to make look grainier and found-film-ier

most of the other photos are just standard pictures i think - the kind of blurry ones of the hair in the middle of panel two were converted to black and white but with the colour levels in the original image changed?? which made them look cooler but i don't really know how to explain it lol. they were done with a macro lens i think.

To answer your question, no, volume 2 does not. However, like Volume 1, it does have a section that goes over the world story, and the game story, and a bit about Path of Radiance too. In the hopes that there is some kind of helpful information about the countries being founded in it, I've got those for you. Page 10 in particular may have something like what you're looking for, or at least, I hope so!

The below are the scans of the World and Story in Vol. 2 predating either game. If you share them online, you can credit me for the scans of mediocre quality using my old scanner if you so choose. I'm sorry if it's a bit blurry on the edges, I tried to smush the book as flat as I could without breaking it.

I just got a remake Parasol from a yard sale! I didn't anticipate I'd get a G1 pony anytime soon, but here we are! Her hair is soooo soft and brushable and she still smells good!!! She has an odd stain on her front left hoof but that's able to be cleaned. Sorry for the mediocre picture quality, I own the world's first phone and the camera quality isn't top-notch.

I'm gonna talk about something that will make me sound like a smug cunt, but I don't care.

I don't consider myself a mediocre person. I don't know if I'd consider myself exceptional, seeing I'm not amazing at anything yet.

I have talent. I'm great at rhythm accompanied poetry. I'm thoughtful. I'm a good writer. I'm empathetic. Compassionate. Passionate. I feel big, I love hard. I ponder the infinite, social issues.

To me? Mediocre is... of moderate or low quality. Sometimes, ordinary can be a synonym, sure. But... ordinary means no distinctive attributes or features.

To me? Mediocre is... shallow people. One-dimensional. Bland. Boring 😅. Nothing of substance.

I meet ordinary people all the time. And there's nothing wrong with being ordinary.

like first of all sorry. eroica stage started as a low budget small scale 2.5d stage. NOT‼️‼️‼️ takarazuka. takarazuka is in an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PLAYING FIELD compared to regular 2.5d. there's overlap but they are NOT the same type of theatre at all. the takarazuka revue is its own isolated theatre type. comparing them in terms of quality, costume and budget is just totally unfair and just pointless generally because they‼️ are‼️ different‼️ things‼️‼️‼️

2.5d is explicitly the genre of stage that adapts anime and manga to a stage/musical format. This overlaps with takarazuka as they also do 2.5d adaptions but this doesn't mean they are 1:1 the same thing.

SECOND OF ALL, theatre costumes are NOT MEANT TO BE OBSERVED at close range. i did set design for a handful of years and the number one rule is readability from a distance. The costumes are by no means "low quality" at all. I'm not sure what some foreign fans EXPECTED? Again, comparing this production to takarazuka is NOT WARRANTED and makes no sense contextually.

Also a stage can be good without detailed costumes and with mediocre wigs.

(Also, as a side note, stage eroica was originally performed in may. the current revival production which i have seen and will see again(!!) is being performed in late July. The official stage account made an announcement letting viewers know that some costumes have been adjusted to prevent the performers from getting too hot. It's really hot in Japan!! Stage outfits are typically tailored with weather in mind especially in summer. Expecting a large campy extremely detailed array of costumes is not only unrealistic for 2.5d but also it poses a legitimate health risk this time of year!!)

THIRD OF ALL, 2.5d stages VERY COMMONLY condense plotlines. the runtimes are often short. if you watch something like patalliro stage you'd think you're in warp drive with how fast the plots move. Theatre adaptions often do a lot of condensing of the original work, usually for time. Eroica stage revival runs at 100 minutes and some change and i think it works with it quite effectively as it also doesn't have an intermission (another common element in 2.5d). Eroica arcs are long. They're long as fuck. If the production continues past the current revival, I wouldn't be surprised if the stages became longer in runtime with intermission added for just a singular arc.

Does this mean details are missing? Yes of course, that's going to be a given with any type of adaptation though. The details dropped from eroica stage are primarily things that include skippage of time, and clearly they don't have time for many of those without making the jumps too jarring. The details removed are in the long run going to be sacrificial things.

Does this impede characterization? Answer as someone who has seen it: nnnnnot really? Most people coming to see this production are coming to see it as fans of the original work. I know how Dorian and Klaus are characterized, so even if small development details aren't directly shown in their entire duration, I still can get the picture. I know what's going to happen to an extent.

They're working with a limited budget, and a limited run time. I really need people to keep that in mind. It's a very small stage and frankly with the way the theatre industry works here, we're lucky to be seeing a revival. Me and I think all of the other Japanese fans had next to no faith in this stage coming back.

Eroica is very much in its baby stage era. Look at 2016 patasute vs the 2022 production of phantom. It will get a budget if it continues forward. I promise

I just really really want foreign fans to be aware that this stage is frankly not for you. 2.5d is not pandered to foreign fans. And it probably won't begin to be for a long time. It's for Japanese fans of the original work who are also fans of Japanese 2.5d theatre. Nitpicking is really generally pointless ESPECIALLY FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE MOST LIKELY NOT SUPPORTING THE STAGE MONETARILY AND ARE PIRATING IT.

Eroica is by all means dead in terms of active content (for lack of a better word) for it. We won't get an anime, at least not any time soon and the manga has been finished for years. The stage to me is a space for fans to celebrate the series being loved enough to have something new made for it. Nothing else would really happen otherwise.

I'm not saying you can't have criticism (I have a handful of my own from the first production, I think they've improved a ton for revival!) but I want people (foreign fans) to go into that criticism with the context of how this type of stage functions. It won't be Broadway level. It won't be takarazuka level. I'm seeing it in a theatre attached to a bookstore!!! I just really want people to know and learn what 2.5d is or entails before they come in with their veteran fan hat on nitpicking every little thing.

my hot take is that if you're a foreigner whose only reference for Japanese stage production is high budget takarazuka performances you should not attempt to critique or comment on any other type of stage bc they simply are not the same

My Raya art book arrived today!

I was going to make some HD scans, but unfortunately it would be difficult to do without damaging the book, so I had to settle for mediocre phone photos. Sorry for the subpar quality and occasional glare!

The book is 160+ pages, so I’m not going to take pictures of all the pages; just the ones I thought were most interesting (which was hard to narrow down, lol). So much work went into designing this movie (like most Disney movies) and the concept art is gorgeous!

Let me just say that I’m someone who liked Sisu’s design from the get-go. There were so many complaints about it when the first trailer dropped, but I always thought she looked cute and pretty and fit in perfectly with Disney’s signature character style (the same way Ghibli characters have similar looks that are a staple of their unique style). I’m glad they went with an “adorkable” and relatable look rather then a stereotypical vicious/serious dragon look.

I know Namaari’s a popular character so I made sure to include lots of her pictures!

Bonus:

I also recently got my limited edition Raya pin from shopDisney.

The dial on the back rotates to show the symbols for each of the five lands.

I guess the fact that I’m spending money on Raya stuff means that I really liked the movie =D Time will tell, but I think it may have become my next favorite Disney movie, after the two Frozen movies of course. I watched it a second time a few days ago with my mom (who’s 75) and she thought it was excellent...and she’s not a fan of CG animated movies at all (the Frozen movies are the exceptions - she loves both of them). She also doesn’t like fantasy/myth stories, or dragons either, so the fact that she thought so highly of this movie means it definitely did something right!

three new developed characters are ones i’ve just become obsessed with, story wise, despite not actually playing them much.

Amaranth Rivers (they/them), everyone’s second least favorite Commander, and generally unhappy and mean person. deep down they sure do love everyone and want what’s best for them, but they’re too busy hating themself and loving Trahearne. A healer and strategist known for ruthless efficiency, and a complete disregard for the comfort of those who serve under them, for the greater good.

Ailbe (he/him), Commander Rivers’ right hand man, body guard. and according to rumors. new beau, with barely any moral compass. he at least has a sense of politeness he gives to those who haven’t wronged him. Amaranth would have him handle the talking if talking wasn’t literally their entire job.

Beatrice (she/they), everyone’s actual least favorite Commander, or at least, definitely poor Thackeray’s least favorite. she took over after the events of HoT, when Amaranth retired, and is known for her charisma and kindness to everyone. Members of the pact often wonder how on earth she even got this position, but the truth is she’s just very good at her job (and one of the few people that actually volunteered)
