I made a sorcerer subclass for angsty military characters. It's mechanically based around getting up close with enemies and risking harm just to take them down with you, and thematically based around dying for a cause you may or may not believe in.

Days 8 & 9 - Slime & Charge! Sorry for the absence yesterday, I got really caught up in some personal matters and forgot to post. But now you guys get two subclasses today!
I'm really proud of these both, they explore mechanics that I feel aren't explored all that often in other 5e material and they do it really well. Path Of Viscosity is a little riff of the Echo Knight for barbarian, and Bloodblade is my take on a gish sorcerer!
Also, I will NOT be making a subclass for tomorrow! I've struggled with burnout in the past and so will be taking intermittent short breaks throughout the month (and beyond) to avoid losing my steam and creating long periods of content drought. I'll be back on the 11th with the prompt "Memory"!

Frost Ward
3rd level abjuration (druid, sorcerer, wizard)
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30ft
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 hour
You freeze the air around another willing creature you can see within range, forming it into a protective layer of frost. The targeted creature gains 4d6 temporary hit points. Once per turn while the creature has these hit points, when it takes damage from an attack, you can immediately deal cold damage equal to your spellcasting modifier to the attacker.
At higher levels. When you cast this spell with a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the amount of temporary hit points increases by 1d6 for each spell level above 3rd.

Stormbreaker Origin (a Homebrewed DND 5e Sorcerer subclass inspired by @comicaurora)
Tumblr media
1st level: Chosen By The Sky
You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Stormbreaker Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must deal lightning damage or be a teleportation spell.
Stormbreaker Spells
You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Stormbreaker Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be a conjuration or an evocation spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.
Tumblr media
In addition, consult the Mark of Thunder table and choose or randomly determine a way your connection to the Sky manifests on your body.
Tumblr media
1st level: Couldn’t Still for a Second
At 1st level, your fighting spirit allows you to channel the swiftness of Lightning into your body. When you use your action to cast a cantrip or a spell of level equal to half your maximum spell level (rounded up) or less, you can use your bonus action to make a melee attack.
In addition, you gain proficiency with light armor, medium armor, simple weapons, and the warhammer. If you're proficient with a melee weapon, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your sorcerer spells.
6th level: You’re Getting This Instead
Starting at 6th level, you can expend 2 sorcery points to infuse your attacks with lightning. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you deal an additional 1d8 lightning damage and can force the target to succeed on a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, you can either choose to knock them prone or push them 10 feet in a direction of your choice.
This benefit lasts for one minute or until you fall unconscious.
14th level: A Million Things I’d Rather Be Doing
You can use the properties of repulsion of the Lightning element to move incredibly fast. Starting at 14th level, you can use an action to conjure a bolt of lightning and travel through it up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Each creature within 5 feet of the line created between your starting point and final destination must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC. A creature takes 6d8 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
18th level: The Storm Over The Horizon
At 18th level, you learn how to tap into the true essence of Lightning to enhance your abilities. On your turn, you can spend 6 sorcery points to get lightning to strike you like it did once to awaken your powers, supercharging your abilities. You gain the following benefits for one minute:
On your turn, if a spell has a casting time of 1 action or less, you can choose to cast it using your action, bonus action, or reaction, ignoring the casting time stated.
All of your attacks benefit from You’re Getting This Instead without the need to expand sorcery points, and they now deal 3d8 lightning damage on a hit.
You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
This supercharge lasts until you fall unconscious or dismiss it on your turn (no action required).

When I was making my lil illusion-centric caster rogue character that I'm playing in a campaign soon, I had realized that not only is there a general lack of illusion spells, there doesn't seem to be any support themed illusion spells. Which is clearly a massive oversight on WotC's part, becos support illusion can have so much flavor.
So have this one! Inspired by both a support-centric illusion buff and also the character's flavor too.

Gothica Refsheet
Tumblr media
Finally made a refrence sheet for my scared coffee lock Gothica. She's a wild magic sorcerer and a fiend warlock. She's terrified of her patron and wants out of her cursed debt.

someone on quora suggested that to improve sorcerers in d&d 5e, they should be able to pick spells from any of the spell lists, since that's more in line with their flavor as "raw magical nexuses", and I've never agreed with a take on sorcerers more.
OP said "let sorcerers have fun, metamagic is all they have".
Like yes that's literally why I'm always looking at this class, what's all this about *draconic* bloodlines and storm sorcerers, if I'm going to be a character that has a direct throughline to magic in a setting with divine and eldritch planes of existence, why am I themed around "flying creature" and "influencing mundane phenomena"?
A subclass that's similar to the paladins' oath of the watchers makes more sense for the sorcerer than half the subclasses they have, and it makes no sense that they don't have that, particularly because it would also be an excellent foil to what the paladin has and definitely what the wizard - through study - attains.
This is a fantasy game, don't make it harder for me to not be saddled by the themes of university casting boi, deal with patron casting boi, and pinky promise boi.

ITS LIFEWEAVER DAYYYY
As part of my tradition of releasing a new subclass for each OW hero, I'm really chuffed to present the Bloomheart sorcerer! The kit is built around manipulating the positions of your allies to swing them to safety or set them up for really big plays, while also having a small dash of healing and general support as well.
I had a ton of fun making it, and I hope y'all have a ton of fun reading and playing!

COMMUNE
I've been kicking around sketches of this moment in the campaign for a while now (like a few years...) and finally worked it out!
Even though Lamia is mechanically a sorlock, in practice she's flavoured more like a Grave Cleric. Unfortunately her patron the Raven Queen was really elusive/never directly contacted her, and since she didn't have access to the Commune spell, things got a little difficult. At one point our party got so desperate for any sort of direction, we broke into the catacombs and I RP'd an intense Speak with Dead ritual that I burned a high level spell slot on while the rest of the party had to distract guards and monks. Thankfully the DM allowed it to essentially work as the Commune spell!

OK okokok... gonna put this 'I just woke up' thought out there because this is tumblr and what else is it for? Someone has probably already said this and I haven't seen it, but whatever. I will throw it out anyway.
SO... Gale. We've all seen the posts where people quote the Gale lines about being naturally gifted with magic as a baby, a prodigy etc. and then point out that this is sorcerer behaviour.
BUT, what if... you're all right and it is sorcerer behaviour. BUT the orb feeds on weave/magic right? And sorcerers are born with innate magic... so what if he was born a sorcerer, then trained as a wizard, but the orb consumed his sorcerous magic. And that's why he's not as powerful as he once was, because, unbeknownst to him, all this time, he's been using that natural sorcerous connection to make accessing the weave easier. And now that's gone. Eaten up. Destroyed forever by the Netherese void.
And that's part of what's causing him pain. Because an instrinsic part of himself has been taken away. And he feels it like a phantom limb. Maybe he thinks it was actually connected to his relationship with Mystra, rather than a part of him, and that adds to his sense of loss from that relationship.
What if the first magic item Gale fed to the orb was himself and he doesn't even realise it?
