Still waiting for Spotify and YouTube to update their charts later today but Google has already come through with some beautiful data for a certain eclipse themed song we all know and love during the total solar eclipse we had in the USA on Monday, April 8, 2024...
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%201-d&geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F1q5jzj36p,%2Fg%2F1q5j2__98,%2Fg%2F11bzvv1522,%2Fm%2F01qdc_p&hl=en
Look at the time of peak searches. And also note the path of searches on the map...
Map - http://www.nationaleclipse.com
So then I decided to compare with a few top eclipse anthem contenders to see who won the battle. Bonnie blew them all away.
Dark Side of the Moon came in #2 in comparison, followed by #3 Black Hole Sun and #4 Here Comes the Sun. None of them really dominated any city on the map over Bonnie.
Other potential eclipse anthems I checked that rated lower than the Beatles to the 4 listed above: Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Steal My Sunshine by Len, Total Eclipse by Iron Maiden, Dark of the Sun by Tom Petty, Promises in the Dark by Pat Benetar, Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, Blinded by the Light cover by Bruce Springsteen (would be #5, this version was also more popular than the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version), Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone by Bill Withers and the individual song Eclipse by Pink Floyd specifically (the album ranked higher). I'm sure I'm missing some but these were at the top of multiple eclipse themed playlists I consulted.
I'm also not sure exactly how many searches this graph corresponds to yet, but I'm sure we'll get recap articles that might have numbers. From a different Google data product, it looks like over 200k searches were done for Total Eclipse of the Heart on Sunday, April 7th alone, the day before (still less than "how to make eclipse glasses" LOL).
Looking forward to Spotify's data. 🌞
Also fun to look at: comparing searches for this song over time with total US eclipses. Possible spikes due to eclipse interest would be 2012 (annular) and 2017 (total) but the 2023 (annular) barely registered. The other spikes may be due to Bonnie performing it on TV (2005) and the TV show Glee covering it (2010).
I'll look at this more later.
But just for fun too, if you've never seen it, check out the Literal lyrics version for the original music video (it was insane, even for the 80's) https://youtu.be/fsgWUq0fdKk?si=CRXE_Zd86GpZa1yG

oh i love your eclipse design, oh he is for sure gonna become interesting..
He gives off the vibe that he can certainly ride a motorbike
and listens to ACDC and guns n roses
i thought of 'back in black' song when I first saw the sneak peak of him.
I feel he's gonna be an unexpected surprise visit.
Aaaaaah thank you, I'm so glad you like his design!! 💖💖💖 Oh and you're absolutely picking up on the right vibe...!!
Back in Black is definitely an LDR Eclipse song!
And LDR Eclipse does ride a motorbike! (and the reader is going to ride it with him at least once in the story ;D)

Hello hello, welcome back everyone to the Sunrise Arc Theatre au!
Now, for today’s batch of doodles we have some stuff from the Sunset and Moonlight Musical, brought to you by me going into a four(?) hour long YouTube binge for songs from musicals and stuff to add to both plays. It’s still pretty barebones compared to Get in Losers but it’s slowly gaining shape.
The first thing to show you all will actually be parts of a performance by the main villain of the play!
Thanks to all the chaos Moonlight and Sunset managed to set themselves with, Phantom Lunar was able to get the star with little difficulties. It was only natural for the little devil to then proceed to rub it in everyone’s faces, It’s Gonna Get Weird is the closing number for this arc of the play.
Featuring black lights and a harness (that’s what the thing that makes people fly on stage is called, yes?), this song is a chaotically fun performance truly brought to life by Haunting’s cheery delivery and bone-chilling demeanor. They have shown to love this choreography, often adding his own little dance moves to their different on stage performances, though at first he was reluctant to even try it due to the flying sections, they’ve never been a fan of heights. It definitely didn’t help that the worker in charge of him apparently teased them for it. The worker did not deny having said something about it when asked. Regardless of past fears, Haunting enjoys this song a lot and very often can be seen mindlessly practicing the moves.
And now, you will all get the chance to see some small sneak peaks into some of the songs in this play’s lineup, and get some exclusive commentary from the actors! Let’s get to it!
What was a casual hangout in the Alternate Lunar’s dimension soon turned into an awkward situation for the young Eclipse. He hadn’t known he’d step into a touchy subject with that small joke! Luckily the Alternate Lunar seemed more preoccupied with making a point about stuffing your face with sweet icy treats rather than guilting the solar bot about his mistake. Upgrades.
“I try to make the same face I made the first time I heard that line, but like, there’s something about the shock from that statement that just manages to get me to pull that expression even if I’m not trying to. It’s useful but oh my god is it awkward” —Clipsy Corona Galaxia
“I find it very funny honestly, that whole musical is just my sense of humor really! Though it does mean that I have to play it cool when I’m mentally cackling like a hyena at this guy’s reaction” —Umbra Blaze
Short lived but well remembered, an unlikely duo terrorizes the twins, dropping by randomly and demanding to play tea party. Moonlight and Protostar would wave them off had Phantom Lunar not had the powers of a God and basically be able to puppeteer anyone at any point they so desired. This was a party they could not decline the invitation to
“I like to sing this one! It’s very fun, and upbeat, and then it turns into a horror movie! What more could you ever want?” —Haunting Lune Aurora
“Yes, yes, this one is wondrous, quite charming really. Shame we do not get more appearances together, but alas, we got one semi-duet and that feels right for the characters and play” —Ruin Eclair Baker
“Moving as if you were a puppet is a lot more difficult than it appears, would not recommend” —Morning Star Galaxia
Having struggled to put himself in the right path, Moonlight finds himself frustrated with his twin’s lack of communication. It wouldn’t come as a surprise that he’d reciprocate the treatment, going through his own routes to ensure his family’s safety. Surely it will all work out in the end.
“I love this song. I know it’s a villain song but honestly that just makes it better, it’s just so cool! And way better than what I was gonna sing originally, I still think they switched my and Sunrise’s scripts or something” —Waning Moonlight Galaxia
“We did not switch their scripts, Get in Losers had already had a few runs before we even started auditions for Sunset and Moonlight. We just saw that the song would fit someone over here more than over there” —Herald Shadow Art, Head of Writing
It went wrong. It all went so wrong. It couldn’t have gone worse.
“I’m just gonna say it first, this is a completely safe thing to do. Yes there’s props that can catch on fire around, but me and some of our special effects guys have already thought that through. The only thing that’s gonna get burned is gonna be my clothes and that’s for a very cool quick change that probably won’t hurt me, so it’s all fine and good” —Waning Moonlight Galaxia
“It’s special fire produced by a specific mix of magically rooted powders, it looks like a tough flame but it can barely light a scrap of paper on fire” —Moonstone Crystal, Special Effects Department
“Finding a textile that would burn with such little heat was fucking hell, so no, there’s no danger in these stunts” —Eclipse Solar Macabro, Head of Costuming

3, 14, and 20 for the music ask game! :)
Oooh, fun!! Thank you for the questions!! <3
3. A song you’d choose to introduce someone to your favorite genre
This one is hard, because I don't think I have a favourite genre! I listen to a little bit of everything, honestly.
If I had to pick a genre that I love and that's relatively less popular, I'd go for jazz! And in that case, I think a wonderful introduction to the genre is anything by legends Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, especially when they sung/played together -- and I'd recommend this version of Summertime as a starting point. It's an incredible piece, full of technical ability, emotion, virtuosity and atmosphere, and it showcases a lot of what I love about jazz as a genre.
14. A song you love to sing along to
So many. So many. I *adore* singing and I love my music, so I'll honestly sing whatever I'm listening to and have a great time with it (as long as I'm alone, and even in company sometimes!). If it's not within my range, I'll find a way.
I'm especially fond of songs that allow me to be a bit dramatic -- stuff like Italian heartbreak anthem Maledetta Primavera or, for a more international example, Holding Out For A Hero (yes, I do all the voices -- and the poses, of course).
20. A song you’d put on a playlist for the person who sent you this ask
Ooh, interesting! To be honest I mostly associate you with classical music, and you seem to be fond of it, so I think I'd fill a playlist for you with my favourite classical pieces :) what would you say to the Duo des fleurs from Delibes' Lakmé?

When you finish the cryptid fic do you have any other AUs or fics planned?
Or any you're kind of considering at the moment?
I'm going to write a MerMay fic that's a spiritual sequel to Deep Dreams involving Sun and Moon!
I do have a few AUs that I haven't talked about yet, but I hesitate to bring them up as I still have a few fics that are currently published that I can/might add more to, like Syzygy in Dedication, but I also don't want to jump into another big writing project so soon after CS. I'm just going to focus on the MerMay fic and see what I'm feeling after that :)
