I'm starting to think that the reason people like JC and say that they sympathise with him so much and say he's "suffered" so much and is so "misunderstood" is because JC makes his troubles a lot more clear.
He is not a good person. He's an angry and bitter man who is always whining about the things he's gone through and the people he's lost and the pain he's suffered. He's also born into a place of privilege so he can afford to whine about such things. And yes, he's suffered. No one's denying that.
But people seem to think he's the only one who has suffered and thus his reaction and experiences are the only valid ones. This also seems to be the case for XY and JGY.
When there are characters like Lan Wangji, Wen Ning, Xiao Xingchen, Song Lan and A-Qing (brilliant, brave and resilient A-Qing; it is a crime how underrated she is!) and most especially Wei Wuxian who have gone through literally so much worse, yet their suffering isn't voiced as much, so people tend to kind of sweep it under the rug and overlook their circumstances. Not to mention none of them use their suffering as an excuse to hurt others.
It's so frustrating.

One of the few parts of every adaptation that makes me cry is the Yi City/Coffin City arc- something about finding love when you don't deserve it, fighting with all you have for it, only to ultimately ruin it with your own hands,,, like MAN I know these guys could never have any sort of functional relationship as is but I wish they could! What very little we see of their dynamics are amazing 10/10 would cry at crushed old candy again

I know I'm kinda late but Happy Birthday month !!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
I was wondering if you wanted to talk about the parallels between A-Qing and Wei Wuxian in the Yi city arc ?
💜
Thank you! As long as it’s November, it’s never too late 💝
I kind of compared them in this wwx bday meta, but I didn’t get too deep into the parallel. While I said that A-Qing represents Wei Wuxian’s adaptability and unwillingness to passively accept evil simply because it’s cloaked in civility, I would like to highlight here another shared trait: their tenacity towards doing the right thing.
A-Qing is in a position of powerlessness in the trio due to her lack of cultivation skills and cultivation world knowledge, similar to how Wei Wuxian is made powerless—despite being a part of the cultivation world—by his lack of status and faithful allies. Yet despite this, both characters thrive in their environments and use their situationally-acquired skills to protect those around them. A-Qing did not have to stay with Xiao Xingchen, especially after Xue Yang came along, but her own sense of morality made her stick around to ensure Xiao Xingchen’s safety, something she was only able to do by feigning blindness. Even when she fails, she, Xiao Xingchen, and Song Lan die, and Xiao Xingchen’s spirit disperses, she uses the last moments of her life to doggedly seek help. After dying, she uses the entirety of her afterlife to scare ignorant strangers away from Yi City (mind you, she didn’t even die there. She made her spirit go back) and try to find ways to stop Xue Yang. Even at the risk of destroying her soul, she goes against Xue Yang to the very end, no regrets in any of her actions.
In the same way that A-Qing used her “blindness” as a shield, Wei Wuxian weaponized the cultivation world’s fears of him first to protect the sovereignty of the newly rebuilt Jiang then to protect the Wen remnants liberated from the Qiongqi Path labor camp. When he was still schemed against and the Wen siblings told him of their plan to turn themselves in, he still never thought to abandon them or let the punishment fall on anyone else’s shoulders, just as A-Qing refused to abandon Xiao Xingchen. After his resurrection, Wei Wuxian still goes out of his way to rescue and protect the junior cultivators, entering back into the lion’s den of the cultivation world for no benefit of his own just to continue to help others, in the exact same way that A-Qing went back to Yi City to guard against passersby wandering in to their deaths. And just like with A-Qing, at no point in time does he regret having rescued the Wen in his first life or having endangered himself in his second life to protect the juniors (or later their bloodthirsty parents).
Even though they faced negative consequences for following their morality to the bitter end (and even beyond), even if the people they wanted to protect were still murdered before their eyes, their reputations tarnished and legacies buried, at no point do either A-Qing or Wei Wuxian stray from their course nor regret their actions. This is their shared tenacity. There’s a reason, after all, that Wei Wuxian experiences the Yi City arc as her.

Wei Wuxian was tricked to be here, he never once heard about this competition-like one month stay in the empress palace to choose the current emperor's second son's wife. They told him he was coming to study under the most famous scholar in their country and sure, Lan Qiren is there, but not as the teacher he expected.
All the men and women present were dressed in their finest robes and all looked extremely politely or were trying to be. The empress and Lan Qiren had told them what to expect of this month - what they were supposed to do and be taught.
He told them he was mistaken and was getting out, but Lan Qiren frowned and called him by name and said that his parents wrote him down as one of the candidates, shocking him into speechless.
(later that night he would find a letter from his mother asking for his forgiveness and that she was expecting him to do well in the competition, for his annoyance)
And when he turned around to leave the room, not believing what he was being told, he crashed against a solid body, going down with a surprised yelp. The man looked at him as if he was dust, used his feet to get him out of the way and treated him as rudely as possible for a second son when Wei Wuxian tried to get a apologies from him.
Angry beyond words, Wei Wuxian decided he was going to flawlessly do every damn step of this, win this goddamned competition and when Lan family would ask for his hand he would reject Lan Wangji with a beautiful monologue about rudeness!
Write that! He's going to be on the history books!
(as an emperor consort years and years and years later, as things happened and he fell in love with Lan Wangji, his brother in law decided to marry out and his father in law stepped down because he was already too old and his youngest son was good enough to be emperor)

Today my high school reunion for lunch 06.29.2024.
At that time, I was a transfer student and had to repeat a year, so I was one year older than them. hehe :P
Then after lunch they suggested going to a fashion E-DA outlet mall shopping, although where I live the studio at a shopping center, I don't shopping for a very time; so I bought a pair of hiking shoes seriously. It's not really professional hiking shoes for climbing mountains lol. but this's gave me a good reason to be my birthday gift for myself. ha! BLUE I LIKE. Thanks God! 🫶 🙏 💋 Lan~*

MXTX MC conflicts go:
Yi City: my boyfriend thinks I am a prolific murderer and specifically murdered a bunch of people his bff loves to get back at him. also that I tricked him into doing murders with me, for enrichment. I did all those things but did not anticipate having a feeling about his feelings.
Scum Villain: my boyfriend thinks I want to kill him but I don't.
MDZS: my boyfriend thinks I hate him but I don't.
TGCF: my boyfriend doesn't know I exist but I'm worried that once he finds out he's going to find my eyepatch ugly and my cavern of effigies offputting.

Everyone talks about how Roy killed Lust as a symbolic proof that he is devoted to actual love but no one talks about how Envy was outed by Riza almost immediately as a symbol of her always accepting what she has and even being content with it. Maybe love IS a narrative force and theme to be reckoned with (and rightly so!), but content when you have so many reasons not to be and when others sometimes have what you don't? That's super cool, too
