Sam sighed as she put her key in the door, slowly unlocking each of the locks. She wanted to go to the gym after her shift, but she forgot her gym bag at the apartment. She really needed to look into renting one of the lockers the gym had. Her gym wasn’t too far away but coming home meant having to deal with Tara and her friends.
“Hey,” Sam greeted.
Tara was stretched out on the couch, Chad had his knees pulled close to him as he sat on the floor, watching whatever movie they had thrown on, Ethan was curled up on one of the chairs, and then Anika sat in the recliner with Mindy draped over her. Sam opened her mouth to ask about Quinn when she heard the usual noise coming from Quinn’s room.
“They’ve been at it since we got home,” Tara mumbled, rolling her eyes.
Sam chuckled with a shake of her head. The only downside to Quinn as a roommate was how loud she was with her various partners. Sam made her way across the living room and towards her room. She quickly threw on a tank top and some sweats before grabbing her gym bag. She did a quick check to make sure she had a change of clothes, just in case, before grabbing her water bottle and making her way into the kitchen. As she filled her water bottle the sound of Mindy and Tara got louder, arguing about whatever they were watching.
“I’ll be back in an hour or two,” Sam said.
“Wait,” Chad said, making Sam stop just as her hand rested on the doorknob. “You’re going to the gym?” Sam nodded. “Cool if I join?”
“I thought you preferred the one on campus.”
“I do, but I missed my usual workout time and now it’s crowded,” Chad wrinkled his nose. “I don’t want deal with all that.”
It wasn’t that Sam didn’t want Chad to come with her, she liked working out with Chad. Mindy and Tara never wanted to step foot in the gym, Chad was literally the only person who would ever workout with her anyway. Chad was also a football player and had a solid routine, he taught Sam plenty when she first started working out.
“Fine,” she said.
Chad instantly jumped up from his spot on the floor. He rifled through his backpack until he finally pulled out a little gym bag. Chad was pretty much always ready to go to the gym, but he had a habit of doing a pretty intense workout and would always need a change of clothes.
The two of them waved goodbye to the others and began the trek to the gym. It was only about a fifteen-minute walk before the little, locally owned, gym came into view. It was the only thing in an otherwise abandoned parking lot, it was small, it was dated, but it had its own community. Sam knew she was all over the news, her history was out there for everyone to see, but not a single person in the gym ever questioned her or gave her a dirty look. Everyone who went to the gym was there to work out, they were also friendly and willing to help each other out if needed, and the owner was the same way, the kindest old man Sam had ever met. It was also a 24-hour gym, meaning Sam could get there in the middle of the night after a late shift and not be disturbed or she could go earlier, like now, and have the regulars around.
When they finally got there Sam swiped her badge, unlocking the door. As soon as they stepped into the gym Sam took in the slightly crowded room. Chad rested his hands on his hips and took a big whiff of the air. Sam glanced at him out of the side of her eye, furrowing her brow slightly.
“What?” Chad asked. “This is why I love coming here,” he gestured with his hands. “You can smell the sweat, smell the workouts being done!” Sam shook her head; Chad didn’t come to the gym with her often but whenever he did, he was like an overly excited child. “The one at school has great equipment but it all smells new,” Chad wrinkled his nose. “No matter what…” he began rubbing his chin as if he was contemplating the deep question as to how the gym could always smell that good.
Sam lightly slapped him on the shoulder and pushed him towards the weights. She had never worked out in Chad’s gym, she wasn’t allowed to since she wasn’t a student, but she had seen it a few times and knew Chad was right, the school seemed to have all the new equipment. Her gym didn’t have much, just a couple of each of the standard pieces of machinery. The gym had enough to give whoever came in a full workout, but everything was clearly worn-down from years of use. Sam thought the used equipment just added to the gym’s character.
As Sam followed behind Chad towards the weights she caught sight of you over in the back corner of the gym, where you always were. She shook her head, she was there to workout, the sooner she finished her workout, the sooner she could get back home, and the sooner she could go to sleep. They each put in their respective earbuds then each grabbed a set of dumbbells and began their warmup before they could get started on the true workout.
After a quick warmup Sam and Chad both made their way to the chest press machine. Sam did everything in her power not to look at you and only focus on her workout. You were in her peripheral and it was taking all her focus not to turn her head just a little more to get a better visual. She tried to focus on just getting her reps in and that be that. She closed her eyes, forcing herself to listen to her music as she finished up her last few reps.
“Hey,” Chad said, tapping her on the arm. She looked up to see he had already finished his workout and was now on his feet and stretching. “Spot me?” he nodded at a bench press that was open.
Sam nodded, she didn’t use the bench press often because she usually didn’t have a spotter and as nice as everyone was in the gym she didn’t want to inconvenience any of them by asking. As much as she wanted to continue her workout, she didn’t mind the break if it meant helping Chad.
Sam stood behind the bench as Chad got the weights into place then laid down. She got her hands ready, holding them under the bar as Chad got ready to start lifting. Sam stayed behind Chad, watching as he started doing his reps, ready to grab the bar if he needed. At least that’s what she was supposed to be doing. The bench press was on the opposite side of the gym still, but it gave Sam the perfect view of you.
Her gaze was intense as she stared straight ahead, stared straight at you. You were across the way, hitting the punching bag, like you usually were. You were one of the regulars at the gym and you ran on almost the same schedule as Sam. Sam had never spoken to you, she couldn’t deny that you were quite attractive though. Though being on such a similar schedule as her made her suspicious.
There were times, like now, when you were there, training with a few of the others around in the gym. Then there were times where it was late at night, and no one was in the gym save for you and Sam. Sam had almost left the first time she got to the gym thinking she was alone, only to see you there. The only reason she didn’t leave then or any time after that was because you never did anything. You would sometimes acknowledge Sam with a simple nod, like a lot of the regulars, and that was it, otherwise you focused on your workout. You didn’t really talk to anyone, though neither did Sam, the only time you truly engaged with someone else was when one of your buddies was with you.
Whenever you were there Sam’s eyes couldn’t help but gravitate towards you, even across the room. Maybe in another life, one where she wasn’t so paranoid, one where she was normal, she might have approached you, just over a year ago she would have even flirted with you, she might have even asked you out, but her life wasn’t normal. You were cute but you were mysterious, and a mysterious stranger was exactly what Sam’s life didn’t need.
“What are you looking at?” Chad asked, snapping her out of her daydream.
Sam looked down to see Chad had put the bar back up, even without her assistance. His hands still rested on the bar, but he was looking up at Sam curiously.
“Nothing,” Sam said, trying to brush him off.
This was exactly why she liked going to the gym alone. She liked to go to the gym and just get her workout done without any distractions, she also didn’t want the others to know about you. You were her little secret, her little crush, the first crush she had had since Richie. If any of the others had learned that she was even remotely attracted to you she’d never hear the end of it, especially not from Mindy or Tara. Despite hating the gym, if her sister and Mindy knew about you, they’d be begging her to come with her every day.
“Who is that?” Chad asked. He was now sitting up on the bench and looked back at Sam with a smirk.
Sam closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh, she was just hoping she wasn’t blushing. Based on the way Chad’s eyes darted from her to you she knew Chad had figured out exactly what she was looking at. “Nobody,” she mumbled.
“That,” Chad pointed at you with a light chuckle. “Is not nobody.”
“They’re just a regular at the gym,” she tried waving it off again.
Sam walked off, making her way to the treadmill. She was silently begging for Chad to drop it, she hoped that if she didn’t acknowledge it then he’d forget about it, he wouldn’t say anything to Mindy or Tara. She hopped on the treadmill and began at a slow and steady speed, she liked to work her way up to a light jog.
She stared straight ahead, ignoring Chad as he leaned against the side of the machine. “So, you wouldn’t mind if I go say hi to them then,” he said. Sam stumbled, nearly tripping over her own feet as she snapped her head towards Chad.
“Don’t,” Sam warned.
“I’m just going to ask if they want to spar,” he held his hands up but was already walking away from Sam and in your direction. Sam didn’t miss the slight smirk on Chad’s face as he made his way towards you.
Sam let out a huff and started smacking her feet harder as she quickened her pace. If she finished her workout early then she had every intention of leaving Chad there, she might even lock the door and refuse to let him in the apartment for the rest of the night. She couldn’t help but glance out of the side of her eye every few seconds, catching sight of Chad as he approached you and tried striking up a conversation. It didn’t seem to be going as he intended based on the way you were shaking your head as he gestured from himself to you and then to the boxing ring in the middle of the room.
Most of the time Sam saw you alone at the punching bag. You would have your earbuds in and just focus on hitting the bag, as if the entire world disappeared and it was just you and the bag. At other times, like now, when the gym was busiest, Sam noticed that sometimes you’d get in the ring with one of the guys and spar a bit. You always used the same guys though, you didn’t randomly grab someone, and it seemed like you tended to deny anyone who just came up you, like she was sure Chad was about to find out.
After a few minutes of trying to convince you, Chad finally walked back over to Sam with his head hung low. Chad jumped onto the treadmill with a dramatic sigh and began a light walk. Sam rolled her eyes, shaking her head at Chad’s ridiculousness and focused on finishing her workout.
“What happened?” Sam finally asked, taking pity on Chad.
“They said no,” he mumbled, kicking his feet at the treadmill as he continued to pout.
“They don’t usually spar with random people.” Behind Chad Sam could see you getting in the ring with one of your buddies. Neither of you had on any sort of gear besides the tape on your hands. “And I think you’re about to see why.”
Chad scrunched his eyebrow then turned back to where you were in the boxing ring, you and your buddy already circling each other. You waited for your friend to throw the first punch, like you always did. You blocked your friends’ first few shots then you started throwing your own punches. The two of you went back and forth, dealing blow after blow, each of you landed a few hits, but both of you blocked most of them.
“Damn,” Chad whispered.
Sam smirked as she went back to focusing on her workout. Despite never looking back at you she could tell you and your buddy were still at it based on the way Chad never changed the speed of his treadmill, his entire focus seeming to be on you. She wouldn’t deny it, watching you spar was something else, you clearly knew what you were doing, it was obvious you had some sort of training. Sam never understood why you didn’t spar with others who were willing, until she saw you for the first time, everyone else here was an amateur compared to you.
Sam turned off the treadmill and slowed her pace until she came to a gradual stop. “You good?” Sam asked. She took a swig of her water while she waited for Chad to acknowledge her presence again.
“What?” Chad looked back at her before quickly looking back at you. You brought your knee up, nailing your buddy in the ribs, then didn’t hesitate to punch him in the face. Chad visibly winced at the hit before hopping off the treadmill. “Let’s go!” he waved at her as if he was the one waiting on her.
Sam rolled her eyes and followed Chad. Before she walked out the door, she met your gaze as you turned in the ring, the two of you probably only held eye contact for half a second but it was enough to make Sam hold her breath. The last thing she saw before the door closed was you and your buddy resetting your positions and getting ready for another spar session.
Sam had to listen to Chad ramble about you the entire walk home. She usually wouldn’t mind her thoughts being consumed by you but since it was Chad rambling, she knew Mindy and Tara would surely hear about it. She was just hoping she could get into the apartment and into her room before Chad started telling them all the details.
Sam put the key in the door, unlocking all the locks once again. “They’re just so badass!” Chad said, his eyes wide as he gestured crazily with his hands. “I can’t believe you tried to keep them from me!” Sam sighed, pushing the door open.
“Who are you talking about?” Tara asked with a chuckle as soon as the two of them stepped into the living room.
“Another one of your lovers?” Mindy snarked, laughing at her brother’s expense.
“Not mine,” Chad quickly denied. “Sam’s,” he pointed back at Sam, who instantly froze as she dropped her keys into the little bowl beside the door. She didn’t need to look to know Mindy and Tara’s full attention was now on hers.
“You’re seeing someone?” Tara said. She was already on her feet and in front of Sam by the time she turned around.
“I’m not seeing anyone,” Sam sighed.
“Who is this mysterious stranger?” Mindy asked, coming up right behind Tara, leaving Anika to sit alone without a second thought.
“Y/N,” Chad happily supplied. All three girls whipped their heads around to see Chad placed at the dining table, popping open a yogurt. Sam tried to hide her smile, she hadn’t known your name, it was a nice name.
“Tell us everything!” Tara said, dragging Sam by the hand to the dining table.
“There’s nothing to tell,” Sam shrugged. “I don’t even-”
“They’re badass,” Chad interrupted, never looking up from his yogurt. “I asked them to spar, and they said no but then I learned why.” Chad looked up at the ceiling in a daydream like state, tapping his spoon against the yogurt cup. “I want to spar with them even more now.” Sam furrowed her brow, tilting her head at the comment.
“You’ve been holding out on us Sammy,” Mindy said, bumping her shoulder as she plopped down into the seat next to her. Sam flicked a glare at her, but Mindy’s attention was fully on Chad. “Spill,” she ordered, leaning half her body across the table.
Sam crossed her arms and slumped back in her chair. She had to sit there and just listen as Chad rambled on and on about you. She wasn’t sure how he could possibly have so much to say, he talked to you for not even ten minutes. He gave the girls a complete recap of their entire gym experience, Sam was definitely regretting allowing him to come with her. He gestured wildly with his hands, trying to mimic the same punches you had been doing.
“Wow,” Tara and Mindy said at the same time, both leaning back in their chairs once Chad was done.
“Are you sure you’re not in love with them?” Mindy asked, tilting her head at her brother.
“No!” Chad said quickly, a little too quickly. “I just think they’re amazing and I admire their workout routine, and I just want to get to know them and become their best friend…” Mindy nodded but gave her brother an unconvinced look.
“Can we go to the gym with you tomorrow?” Tara asked.
“They might not be there,” Sam mumbled without thinking.
“Oh!” Mindy screeched right in Sam’s ear. “You know their schedule.” She wiggled her eyebrows as she looked past Sam and at Tara who was giving her a knowing nod.
“We have a very similar schedule,” Sam defended.
“Sounds like a match made in heaven,” Mindy sighed, leaning into Sam’s side.
“I’m not looking for a relationship!”
“Come on Sam,” Tara sighed, much more calm than before. “You deserve to be happy. What’s the worst that could happen?”
“My last boyfriend tried to kill all of us,” Sam deadpanned, looking her sister in the eye.
Tara opened and closed her mouth a few times as she nodded. “But what are the odds of that happening again?”
“Guys!” Anika called, interrupting whatever excuse Sam was going to come up with next. “You have to see this.”
Everyone got up from the kitchen table and moved to the living room just as Anika turned up the volume. Everyone remained silent as the news played, talking about the murder of two college students. Sam didn’t even react to Quinn coming out of her room and joining them.
“It’s got everyone asking, is this the work of Ghostface?” the news reported said, ending the broadcast before showing the picture of the two boys murdered.
“Holy shit,” Mindy said. “Those are the dudes from our film class,” she pointed at the screen.
“We have to leave, now.”
“What? No!” Tara said, instantly trying to fight Sam. “We don’t even know what this is!” she pointed to the TV. “It could be nothing; they were clearly freaks!”
“Are you really willing to take that risk?” Sam snapped.
“Quinn! Call your dad,” Tara whipped around to look at their roommate. “Let’s at least figure out what’s going on before you uproot my life.”
Sam held Tara’s glare but didn’t argue as Quinn called her dad. She understood where Tara was coming from, she knew Tara wanted things to go back to normal and just wanted a normal college experience. Sam wanted to just cut and run though, even if there was no proof that Ghostface was actually back, she didn’t want to take the risk. Sam couldn’t help the feeling that it was starting all over again.

December 16: RJ Portales
00 │ 01 │ 02 │ 03 │ 04 │ 05 │ 06 │ 07 │ 08 │ 09 │ 10 │ 11 │ 12 │ 13 │ 14 │ 15 │ 16
Muscle model RJ Portales worked out in the gym at the bench press as he worked on building up his world famous chest. The former Army Officer had developed quite the Internet following because of his plump pecs that he would often bounce for men to drool over. Therefore, the stud made sure to keep his fans happy, working out religiously and having numerous Chest Days to ensure that his muscletits were always big and juicy.
RJ kept his ear buds in, blasting his music as he worked out, allowing him to drown out any distractions. This prevented him from noticing the small group of smaller nerdy men who were staring at his muscular form, trying to hide behind one of the large workout machines.
They watched intently as the stud worked out, his meaty pecs glistening with sweat as he got them pumped up from his presses. RJ would grit his teeth and bellow out a manly grunt as he lifted the bar, making some of the smaller guys swoon.
The leader of the sneaky group pulled out what resembled a comic book ray gun straight out of a cheesy sci-fi movie, aiming it directly at the top-heavy stud. With a mischievous smirk, he squeezed the trigger.
A flash of light flickered in the gym as a beam darted towards the unsuspecting RJ, hitting him square in the chest.
RJ let out a surprised gasp the very second he felt the ray hit his pecs. He didn’t have time to wonder too much what it was that had struck him, because in a flash, the hunk felt his whole center of gravity shift.
RJ paled when it looked like the walls of the gym were starting to stretch as they grew upwards; however, it didn’t take long for RJ to realize that the room wasn’t growing, but that he was shrinking. “What the fuck is going on?” the hunk panicked, bristling at the chipmunk squeak that his voice now possessed as he got smaller and smaller.
His clothes weren’t affected by the shrinking, and they grew baggier and looser by the second. RJ’s shoulders slipped through the collar of his too big tank top as he got smaller, and his jockstrap and shorts fell to the ground. RJ looked into one of the posing mirrors in the gym, finding a tiny semblance of relief when he saw that his body still maintained all of its bulging proportions as he grew smaller. However, that relief was short-lived as he continued to shrink.
Eventually, RJ got so tiny that he started to get swallowed up by the bundle of clothes that had been skintight mere seconds ago. He felt like he was swimming in fabric, extremely disoriented from his now minuscule stature. He could hear booming thuds from footsteps quickly approaching, and the shrunken stud felt his heart start to race as he hoped that whoever found him could help him.
The group of nerds swarmed the bundle of clothes that were on the gym floor, the leader reaching through them to find the small man inside. He felt the squirming RJ and yanked him out, the group of guys gasping as they saw the tiny man.
RJ couldn’t have been more than six inches tall, and he fit in the lead nerd’s grasp perfectly. All of his muscles and proportions looked the same— they were just on a much smaller body now. The formerly tall muscle stud felt so incredibly tiny as he was held by another man whom he totally would’ve dwarfed at his previous size. However, now he looked like a top-heavy action figure as opposed to an online model.
“Please!” RJ squeaked in his high-pitched voice. “You gotta help me! I don’t know what happened, but I got smaller all of a sudden!”
The nerds chuckled at his helium-esque voice, and the leader reached over with his free hand to feel RJ’s large pectorals. Using the tip of his index, he lifted the mounds up and let them bounce back down, feeling them squish under his touch.
“Whoa, these things are huge!” the nerd mused aloud as he continued to play with RJ’s muscletits.
“H-hey! Knock it off!” RJ blushed, annoyed that despite how panicked he was, he couldn’t deny the feelings of pleasure that rippled though him at having the now much larger man play with his tits. He was completely helpless to do anything but let himself be fondled, his cock even hardening.
One of the other nerds walked up to the group, holding what looked like a hamster cage in his hands. It was designed to look like a scale model replica of the gym; yet, instead of a variety of machines, it appeared that the only ones in it were meant for chest exercises.
RJ was stunned as he was placed inside the cage, wincing when he heard the door slam shut. His eyes went wide as he took in the sight of all of the chest workout machines, and when he saw the bowls of food and water in the corner.
The lead nerd chuckled again as he crossed his arms in front of his thin chest. “Yeah, that’s right, RJ,” he laughed. “It took us a while, but we managed to turn you into our little muscle pet. But don’t worry. We made sure to give you everything you need in order to keep building up those muscletits of yours.”
RJ gulped as he took in the words he was being told. He frowned when he looked around at the bars of the cage that was now his home. His cock was begrudgingly still hard, and the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he’d have no choice but to work out and make his pecs get bigger and bigger.
And worse was that he immediately thought about how great it’d feel to have his bigger pecs fondled by the larger nerds. He blushed as he cock throbbed at the thought.
“O-okay,” RJ squeaked as he walked over to the bench press, his hard cock bobbing in front of him with every step. He racked up the weights and set to work being a good muscle pet so that his new owners could enjoy his muscletits up close and personal.

Have you by any chance seen someone on Twitter posting a translated version of Xiangli Yao's daily schedule? How about writing something like what his schedule would be with the reader (already in a relationship) maybe on a day off? Something like: 8:00 AM - get up and start day 10:00-12:00 AM snuggled in bed with y/n as a result. Or - 4:00 PM - prosthetic maintenance. ambushed from behind. (Imagine nuzzling him from behind while he tinkers with his hand 🥺) Something like a bunch of small drabbles in 1 work? I guess finding someone to write for him awakened something in my brain, I'msorry.
A/n: I have heard of this schedule but tbh I didn't see it myself before I got this request lol, I really find the idea sweet so I hope I did it justice! And no need to apologize, I am happy to write for Xangli Yao
Contents: Xiangli Yao x GN!Reader, fluff, short drabbles, established relationship not proofread
Saturday:
08:30 - Wake up
It’s been many years since Xiangli Yao has practiced this continuous cycle of waking up at certain times, to the point he did not need an alarm clock anymore. It was 8:14 when he came to his senses, morning light sleeping through the blinds and softly caressing his eyelids to open. He turns away from them, shifting sluggishly underneath the blankets, knowing that work wasn’t waiting on him today.
He is greeted by your sleeping face, relaxed and soft as the few spots of light from the blinds danced over your cheeks and lips. The light didn’t seem to disturb you, something he was thankful for as he shuffled closer and wrapped his good arm around you, bringing you closer to his warmth as he nuzzled his nose into the top of your head, breathing in your scent as your hair tickled his skin. He feels you mold into his shape, your sleep heavy arm going underneath his and over his side, the blanket keeping your shared warmth trapped, shielding you from the chilly morning.
09:30 - make breakfast with my beloved :)
Well, it may have been 9:10 by the time you both willed yourself to leave the comforts of eachothers arms. It was hunger that pulled you both from bed, stumbling into the bathroom. Xiangli Yao was next to you as you washed your face while he brushed his teeth. He handed you your toothbrush after you blindly found the towel next to the sink and brushed your face dry.
Although he had gotten used to being the one to prepare breakfast for both of you during workdays, the weekends did allow more time, and so Yao did try to listen to you more when you said you wanted to help or do more of the work since you don’t usually get the chance to do so. He did convince you some times before, letting you so simply sit aside and look pretty while he whips you up your favorite, but today wasn’t that day. You woke up with more energy and a craving for good quality time and to get your hands busy.
What ends up happening is a table full of food, a big but balanced breakfast of veggies and fruit and needed protein. While you were setting up the table, Xiangli Yao poured you both the juice you made the weekend. He may not think about it too often, but he always feels like the richest man in the world when he shares mornings like these with you.
13:00 - go to the market, restock groceries
His prosthetic arm is holding the basket while the fingers of his other hand are intertwined with yours. Xiangli Yao was yet to become truly used to these public displays of affection, but he never disliked them. The thing was that such little acts of affection flustered him so much at first and he’d rather not catch someone ogling him while his cheeks are red as the tomatoes you were looking at now. He was used to it, he tells himself as he slowly lets your fingers slip from his hold when you say you can use some of the tomatoes. He remembers you mentioning a recipe some time ago that required a good amount of tomatoes. He helps you pick out the best ones and he adds it to the basket after the purchase is done. Although today’s shopping trip ended with more bags than either of you expected, Xiangli Yao vehemently refused to allow you to carry any of the bags.
You ended up stopping at the local dessert shop, purchasing a few sweet goods for home. You mentioned how the chocolate cake he got looked oddly similar to Xiang-LEE. Now he couldn’t unsee it..
16:00 - prosthetic maintenance(p.s. keep your back guarded!)
How oddly homely it felt to have your arms around him while he tinkered away on his mechanical arm..
Although at first you only observed him from the doorway, he chose to skillfully ignore you when you began to sneak closer, almost as if he couldn’t see you from the corner of his eye.
You knew he knew too, but it's a game you both chose to play every evening when the sun began to lean in to kiss the mountains.
You hum as you put your chin on top of his head, peering down at the assortment of open wires and metal plating scattered about on the table. There's a screwdriver in his good hand, and he's clearly doing something, but you're unsure what. Perhaps you'd ask one day, tell him to explain how his arm really works, but that is not today.
He feels you leaning in and kissing his cheek and then his temple.
“The meal is soon to be done. Don't keep me waiting all alone at the table, Xiangli Yao”
19:00 - Free activities
Xiangli Yao can't help the chuckle that escapes him as he witnesses your scowl and furrowed brows, and all for the little board game with black and white pieces. You've won the round from last night and he deemed it appropriate to ask for a rematch, although he only wished to make you blow off the steam. You've been rather stressed this week, perhaps some back and forth of the game could allow a reprieve.
“You've been thinking about your next move for quite some time now, my love…” he tries, a smile plastered on his lips, both amused and sympathetic.
“...I got it…shh” you return, pushing your chin into the heel of your palm. He hums in response, and another few heartbeats of silence pass before he sees your face light up, as if a star had whispered the next act into your ear. Your fingers deftly move across the board and move your piece across the checkerboard.
“Checkmate!”
He laughs, his chest shaking with joy as you beam at him. You beat him. Again.
22:30 - bedtime
Mornings are where Xiangli Yao thrives. He is a morning person to the last bone in his body and on work days it is not rare for him to rise before you and his alarm, but they don’t bring him nearly as much relief and joy as bedtime does. Your sleepy face as you go to brush your teeth and change into your bedwear always has his heart softening, his own movements slowing down as his entire body yawns for the comforts of the mattress and comfortable blankets.
He is sitting at the edge of the bed, tinkering with his prosthetic arm for the last time and setting it aside on the table right next to his side of the bed. His prosthetic is cold and rather uncomfortable to sleep with for both of you. From behind he hears you exiting the bathroom and the sound of your bare feet against the floor hurrying up has him turning around to see how you crash into the bed, your face buried into your pillow with a low groan, a breath of relief as weight is taken off your feet.
He shuffles, telling you to get under the blankets while he turns off the lights. Once he remembered you both joking about being afraid of the dark, and although it was all just a joke - Xiangli Yao has been the one to turn off the lights since then.
He hums as he returns, sliding under the blankets and finding the warmth of your body with searching fingers, pulling himself closer until he was wrapped around you. He buries his nose into your hair, inhaling your scent before laying a lingering kiss to your cheek, bidding you goodnight.

He Chose You (P. 7)
Lucifer/Reader: You’ve been chosen to be the Mother of the Antichrist. Rated E.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11 | Part 12 | Part 13 | Part 13.5 | Part 14 | End
Your sleep had become fitful with dreams that, while not full of violence, left you waking in a cold sweat most mornings. You couldn’t remember most of what happened aside from a parade of images and feelings of discomfort. Sometimes, downright fear.
The blonde woman was still the star, but you couldn’t remember a word she’d say. The sight of her frowning at two men replayed in your head between sleeping and waking. She frowned at you with dewy wide eyes.
The woman held her arms out to you: beseeching, sheltering, hurriedly hiding but you were able to escape the gaze of one of the men.
Fear had spirited you away from unconsciousness when the man’s brown eyes sparked into an unnatural gold. They heated with anger at the mere sight of you.
—
The only equivalent you could come up with for how you awoke was being jump-started like a car. It took a solid moment of gulping in air and eyeing your surroundings before you could calm the beat of your heart.
“Lucifer?”
It took too much energy to turn and look for him, but you saw that the sheets beside you were disturbed, but duck-less.
You were overly warm, hopelessly reaching out to run your hand down the opposite side of the bed despite what your eyes told you.
For a while there was nothing to do but lay in the silence of your darkened room. Eventually your hand drifted into your belly.
It had become a reflex to pet your own tummy, to feel the bump that had formed there, as small as it was.
—
You faced forward, looking directly at the screen of your TV without really seeing it. Beside you, Lucifer giggled at whatever was happening between Kermit and Gonzo onscreen.
His bare hand was latched onto yours, fingers entwined, claws digging into your skin just enough to hurt. Not a lot, just a little bit. Strangely, the discomfort kept you grounded and away from the outlandish yet very real fear that you’d float away without it.
‘Is it dissociating or disassociation?’
You’d gone long enough with it happening multiple times now but you couldn’t even remember what it was called.
You were pregnant.
Well, you’d been pregnant for about a month and a half. And your partner in crime had been excited. So excited he’d literally exclaimed ‘oh my golly’ at the news.
Then he’d had a panic attack, complete with big yet shallow gasps for air and arm flailing, hands flapping, short legs in knee-high boots pacing a hole into your carpet.
You were somewhat grateful for his outburst, if only because taking the steps to placate him was placating unto itself.
—
The memory made you smile weakly. A memory that seemed so long ago, even if it had technically happened only a few months prior.
Everything that had happened afterward had made it seem rosier than it should’ve been. Before things soured so thoroughly that you could barely get out of bed.
Now, you were exhausted day and night, plagued by not-quite-nightmares during your hibernation-like snoozes, and — when awake — eaten at by fears and doubts.
You’d never thought seriously about having children.
There was this permanent barrier to the very idea that lingered in the back of your mind. You don’t know when it formed, or if it was merely a protective mechanism of some kind (God knew you had plenty of those already). Nonetheless, you’d stuck to it, never straying… until now.
You weren’t the motherly type. And technically you weren’t going to be. As much as Lucifer mooned over you, whether for his own entertainment or because he was genuinely fond of your stupid sarcastic comments and bouts of literary trivia, you would not allow yourself to trust him completely. You had no compunctions about raising the Antichrist once you had fulfilled your end of the deal.
So you told yourself. Especially when you cycled through detachment and guilt about the creature growing in your womb. Especially when Lucifer was curled up with you, basking in your warmth and bringing you little trinkets and laughing with you at whatever was on TV. Especially when he dropped everything to lay down with you in your sickness, and did anything he could to make you smile, be it with magic tricks or stories from lifetimes ago.
Last night he’d held your hair as you threw up, courtesy of the raw beef you’d craved (thank you, you freaky little fetus). Then he entertained you by shape-shifting into cute animals until you’d cuddled up with his duck self and fallen asleep.
The little slope of your stomach quivered with the rest of your body. You felt the sudden urge to cry.
—
“Lucifer?”
You braced yourself against the wall to get out of your bedroom. Standing was enough to make you dizzy, skin growing clammy and perspiring while you struggled to move. You were winded after five steps through your rather small apartment.
Your curiosity was the only thing keeping you going after hearing a series of beeps from outside your door.
“Aw, shit. Shit, shit, shit! Hold on!” Lucifer called from a few feet away.
He was here, in your apartment, more often than not. As a matter of fact, you had the feeling that if you didn’t push him to return to his duties, Lucifer would’ve been with you 24/7.
Speaking of, he appeared from around the corner just as you buckled and slid against the wall.
The Devil sprang forward, arms out and ready to catch you. Had you been more yourself, you’d have laughed at the absurdity as most of your weight sagged against its surface and he’d more or less landed on top of you from the side.
“I’m so so sorry!” He cried, jerking away when you winced.
“Sorry.” He whispered loudly. “I got your tea and I was trying to make it without waking you but the darn thing wouldn’t stop beeping.”
“Cassie was here?” You let yourself sway to Lucifer’s side instead of the walls. He was practically carrying you into the living room.
Unnames illness aside, you found an additional slight against your existence that you still had to keep in contact with your weirdo neighbors. They were both their own flavors of bizarre, but Cassie in particular was extroverted and nosy.
She brought you tea from her kitchen garden —
“Just bits and bobs from my little spice garden, things I’ve been growing ‘round the house. Pretty basic stuff: you got your chamomile, mint, there’s rosemary in there too, some cinnamon, ya know.”
— and wanted to brew it for you while having chats at your kitchen table almost every day.
Even Lucifer was annoyed by her persistence.
“Here as in ‘at the door’ but not inside. She actually got it through that thick skull that I didn’t want you to be disturbed.” Lucifer said, equal parts irritated and triumphant.
You leaned your head on his shoulder. “Thanks.”
Your eyes closed to avoid the sudden onslaught of more tears when your companion tensed. He stopped short of the couch to relish in the contact. His wistful sigh made your heart throb painfully as you wondered for the umpteenth time how the fucking King of Hell could be so effortlessly sweet.
‘Just to make pulling out the rug from under you later a bigger betrayal.’
The intrusive thought brought more tears, from eyes screwed up as you wished it away.
“… can’t make tea as a duck.” Lucifer had carried on while gently lowering you on the cushions. “I did try though, to be fair.”
He had yet to notice your tears, but your laugh was wet. “I’m sorry I missed that.”
It was sudden when cold hands cupped your face and turned your gaze up. You were met with deeply worried crimson eyes.
The cold was so nice that you had to snuggle into that touch. “It’s ok.”
Lucifer’s maw opened and closed a few times, helplessly.
“Do—uh… do you want me to do that? I can try it again!” He jumped back, getting ready to shift in a puff of fireworks.
“No, come sit with me.” You held up a shaking hand, trying to ignore your own ashen skin.
The blond hesitated.
“Please, Lou.”
—
Lucifer melted at your request. He came to you immediately and took great care as he rearranged your frail body against his own.
He was grateful that he’d thrown on his velvet robe that morning twicefold now — once to avoid his elderly worshipper seeing his dick, and twice to be able to pull it to the side so that you could lay your forehead against his cold chest.
The King’s skin would warm up with time and human contact, but he knew that his natural icy exterior did wonders to help your over-warm skin.
Lucifer fought to not chuckle at the ticklish feeling of your hair against his neck. You laid there against him for a long time, breathing lightly and letting him hold you close. The silence was easy for once, not awkward or uncomfortable. Just one person relying on another for quiet solace.
When you finally spoke, it nearly scared him. “What’s it like? In Hell?”
“Wh-why’re you asking?” Lucifer tried to play it cool. “That’s not really a fun o-oo-r relaxing…!… topic.”
“Mmm,” Your head slowly lifted until he count easily count your individual eyelashes.
“I don’t know if you know this, but there’s a little guy in here.” You pointed between yourself and him, to the little slope of your stomach. “And they're gonna call Hell their home soon. It might be good to know what that’s like before I ship them off.”
“Oh!” Well, that was easier. “It’s uh, it’s red… and warm.” Lucifer wracked his brain. “Well, my Ring is. See, there are 7 Rings total, and technically I rule them all, but my brothers each kinda made their own homes out of them.”
“Mine though — mine is full of Sinners, which is what we call the humans that died and were condemned to it. They’re all kinda packed in there, heh. Like, uh, tiny fish. That reek.”
Your lips pursed. “But no one is burning in molten lava at all times or anything, right?”
“No-oo! Well, I mean it’s not impossible. But it’s not the norm. Nah, people go about their way like they do up here, but even more selfishly and violently.”
Lucifer smiled at your frowning face.
“It’s like on Earth? So people work, sleep, eat?”
“Yep!”
“They pay bills? Go to parties? Fuck?” Your brows were nearly to your hairline.
“Mmmm-hm!”
“And they do it for all of eternity? Forever?”
“Pretty much! In a nutshell…” Was his jolly reply. He squeezed you to him for extra measure.
It was your turn to look flummoxed by the picture he painted, the words he spoke that sounded both improbable and spot on for what Hell would be if it was real.
Well, not if.
At last, you sighed.
“I guess it couldn’t have been all that bad if… if you’ve been there for so long and you’re still so sweet.” Your words were barely audible, muttered into Lucifer’s chest when you gave up on making sense of anything.
But the Ruler of Hell had to stop the last-minute ejection of his own wings at your words.

17 Reasons
1 Because the eagles would have been spotted by Sauron.
2 Controlling the eagles is very difficult and requires a great intellect and soul to accomplish. Gandalf was the only one like that, and still he had to find the eagles since you can’t simply tame them.
3 The eagles live mostly in the Misty Mountains, meaning the take off point would have been spotted by Sauron’s army.
4 Mount Doom is too hot for the eagles to fly directly above, it's also a volcano which emits toxic fumes.
5 Eagles are very smart and powerful creatures, they developed concepts like greed and language. The ring would have corrupted them after long exposure. Remember, the ring must be handled by a weak race who wouldn’t be corrupted by it, and Hobbits are the only intelligent race this applies to and even then it’s not 100%. (look at Gollum)
6 Eagles are massive, and since they’re strong enough to carry two full-grown human men we know they’re exceptionally strong. Because of this, they require a lot of energy, eg calories. If they rode the eagles from their natural habitat to Mount Doom they’d have to stop for food breaks constantly. IRL Eagles have to eat a pound (450 grams) of food a day, with the eagles themselves weighing around 14 lbs (6kg). Let’s say if the eagles weigh as much as a small horse, or 700lbs (318kg), that would mean they’d need 50 pounds of food a day.
7 To add to the last point, they’d be very prone to physical exhaustion. Due to their size and dietary needs we’d have to assume the eagles would need a lot of breaks in general.
8 If the eagles are shot down, a very real risk given the size of Sauron’s army, the fall would surely kill a significant portion of the Fellowship of the Rings. A risk Gandalf is too smart to take.
9 The eagles, weighing over 700lbs (318kg) would produce humongous poops, and birds don’t have sphincters. Imagine a dump the size of a large microwave falling on you from the sky, the fellowship is comprised of people too good to risk harming someone like that.
10 Since the eagles are so big they’d be too loud and noticeable. Sauron didn’t know about the plan to destroy the ring until it was too late. If he saw the eagles flying straight for Mount Doom he’d know something was up.
11 Gandalf isn’t the only being that can control the eagles, since eagles live so close to Mordor Sauron’s army would, upon realizing the Fellowship was coming, get their most powerful people to fly eagles to fight them. As cool as that sounds, I doubt the fellowship would want that.
12 The eagles might eat the hobbits, and perhaps the dwarves if they’re ballsy enough. Hobbits are around 3-4 feet (91-121cm) each and are said to be plump, so assuming they weigh as much as an overweight child they’re around 50lbs (23kg) which is around as much as the eagles should eat daily if you remember, and the dwarves and slightly taller and vastly more muscular so they’d be around 75lbs (34kg). That’s already a slight majority of the party which, in a pinch, would make for a great eagle feast.
13 If this feast were to happen all hope would be lost, and no other hobbit (almost the only race trusted with this mission) would even want to attempt to destroy the ring with Gandalf.
14 The eagles are too preoccupied with having their own lives. They might do Gandalf a favor and take a day to fly the fellowship to Mordor, but the journey would have taken days without the journey (the Shire and Mordor are practically on the opposite ends of Middle Earth) and I’m not sure most eagles would care enough to do that.
15 They needed to gather intelligence and protect Rohan from Sauron’s invasion along with destroying the ring.
16 If Gollum, the crazy mf, snuck onto one of the eagles somehow he would have destroyed the entire operation.
17 Tolkien himself confronted this. Tolkien said that the eagles are some of the most powerful creatures in Middle Earth and that any good writer would use them sparingly.

The Caged Bird Still Sings Part 14
Hey guys! Welcome back! So this chapter is getting a little heavy on the angsty side, so just a heads up.
Things have been going great for all the stories especially the Christmas one.
This will be the story that keeps its usual schedule next week. Every other posting day will be finishing up the Olympic Swimmer one. So be on the look out for that.
Also super long chapter!
Steve tries out some hobbies, Joyce pushes, and Steve gets depressed.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13
~
Steve would like to say he got right on the job search the next day, but he really didn’t. He woke up refreshed and feeling good about himself. After a run on the treadmill and big breakfast he had already talked himself out needing to.
But instead he decided that he wanted to learn new hobbies. He had the money and pretty much unlimited time so why not?
The first thing he tried felting. Yeah, he had a lot of money, but he wanted to start with something cheap in case he got bored with it.
Taking the kit out of the box, he already ran into a problem. The leather finger gloves were much too small. Like he didn’t have fat fingers or anything but they were much too tight to fit on even his pinkie fingers he turned them inside out to see if he could make them bigger somehow.
He only succeeded in ruining the finger gloves. He tried rubber thimbles as replacements but still the sharp tool would pierce even the tough rubber.
The kit sat abandoned in a corner of his hotel room until one of the porters saw it and asked if he could have it. His sister did the felting all the time and she was having trouble finding colors she liked.
So Steve let him have it. Three days later the porter came back with a bright yellow canary and a female robin. He proudly displayed them on his nightstand next to the phone and alarm clock.
Robin loved them, but refused to take the robin. She said they shouldn’t be separated at any price.
Steve loved her a little bit more when she said that.
The next thing he tried was painting.
That lasted all of six hours before they got handed off to Will. It was a beautiful oil, acrylic, and water color set, with all the paint brushes and pallet and metal wood-handled pallet knives.
It lasted that long was because that was the time it took for Steve to set everything up, including an old sheet Rosa let him have, start painting and promptly knock everything over. The water, the paints, the easel. Everything. He broke the easel, knocked a hole in the canvas, and smeared paint all over the apron he had bought just for the occasion.
Will was happy to receive the paints, but in turn he gave Steve a simple notepad and pencil and taught him how to draw.
Steve liked that.
It was just for doodling and making silly pictures so it didn’t make him feel like a failure. He went to the bookstore and bought a bunch of books on how to draw certain things. Animals, the human figure. He even found this great reference book on clothes sorted based on the English monarch who was in power at the time the were wore.
Which was all well and good, but it wasn’t exactly what he wanted.
One day while he was over at Will’s talking art and whether or not kneaded erasers were worth the pain they caused if you dropped, Ellie introduced him to a new hobby. Will was against the things, Steve was for.
Jonathan huffed, “That’s probably a class issue as Steve here can afford to replace them and Will can’t.”
Steve and Will stared at each other in complete shock, but had to admit that Jonathan was probably right.
“Yeah, okay,” Steve huffed, “that’s fair. I guess I really didn’t think about it because it’s not my money I’m spending.”
“Have you tried looking for a job?” Joyce asked. She didn’t like that someone was paying to keep Steve safe. As nice as it was, in her experience the well tended to dry up when you least expected it to.
Steve rolled his eyes. “Yes, Mrs. Byers.” Which he had. Yes, he had been focused on trying to learn things that would keep his mind from atrophying, he had also been looking. “If they seen me coming they take down the sign or if they don’t get to it in time, they say it’s an old sign and that they forgot to take it down.”
Joyce’s shoulders slumped in sympathy. The rumor around town is that because Mr. Harrington was the landlord for a lot of the properties that the businesses were on, he had threatened to raise their rent if they gave Steve a job.
Something that all the adults promised not to tell Steve so that he wouldn’t get so discouraged as to not try at all.
But surely Clint Harrington didn’t own every business in Hawkins and she told Steve so.
“No,” Steve huffed. “But he’s friends with ones that he doesn’t. I’m going to try the mall next. Most of the them are franchises and have their main bosses outside of Hawkins.”
She let out a little sigh of relief. It showed that Steve was trying and actively thinking of these types of pitfalls.
Steve shifted uncomfortably. “What have you got there, Ellie?” he asked trying to shift the focus off of him for a moment.
Joyce was watching Ellie while Hopper was at work.
The young girl held up long satin strings of embroidery thread. She had three shades of pink, a white, and a red. She tied the ends to a safety pin that was pinned her leg.
“I’m making friendship bracelets for me and Max,” Ellie said proudly. “The pink is for me, and then I have these colors for her!” She held up blues and purples.
“That’s way cool!” Steve said scooting over to sit next to her.
Jonathan and Will shared a smile. Steve was lost to the shiny allure of friendship bracelets.
“I could teach you if you like,” she said with a smile. “I also have boondoggle!” She held up shiny plastic strips. “I make key chains and other things that need to last a lot longer than the thread.”
Steve really lit up, but then frowned when he saw out intricate it all was. “I’ll never be do anything that fancy.”
Ellie sat closer and pulled out a little paper that she had in her caboodle. “I couldn’t at first either, so I went to the library and took out a book on all the different ways you could plait and how to do boondoggle. Then I copied a couple of the pages I wanted to try.”
She handed it to him and pointed to the easiest. “That’s the one I started with and it will probably take a little bit to get the spacing right.”
Steve tilted his head. “Is this like braiding hair?”
“Yes!” Ellie said excitedly. “That’s right. I forgot you braid Max’s hair all the time. So then it will be easy for you.”
Soon they were off in their own little world.
Joyce watched with her arms crossed and a concerned expression. Jonathan spotted her and shook his head. He stood up and went to stand next to her.
“You’ve got to let it go, Mom,” he said gently. “You aren’t his mom and even if you were, he’s still an adult. As near as anyone of can tell, whoever is footing this bill isn’t in it to exploit Steve, just making sure he’s taken care of.”
Joyce breathed out through her nose as she tried not to snap at her son. She didn’t know that as a fact and Hopper’s reassurances weren’t enough. She hated having to take his word that whoever this was wouldn’t harm Steve. And that galled.
“It’s all the expensive gifts,” she tried to explain. “The car, the unlimited credit card, cash drops weekly, the gold necklace, the hotel. It’s just not right, it’s not decent.”
Jonathan shook his head. “What about all the non-expensive gifts? Things this benefactor thought Steve would like or get a kick out of? Like that little canary with top hat that he keeps on his dashboard? Or all the music tapes they send, thinking Steve might want to try something different. Hell, according to Steve until they left the country, they talked once or twice a day. That doesn’t sound like someone out to hurt him.”
She let out a shuddering sigh. Because Jonathan was right, that didn’t sound like someone trying to use Steve. “I know.”
Jonathan patted on her shoulder and then went into his room, probably to call Nancy. Another person like his mom who worried Steve was being taken advantage of. But even if he was, that was a lesson he was going to have to learn the hard way.
On his own.
Will had long since left to go hang out with Mike while Ellie and Steve made friendship bracelets. He made four. A black, red, and dark grey one for Eddie, a red, a brown, and a light grey one for Robin and two yellow, white, and black ones. So he could one each to Eddie and Robin.
“Those are really pretty, Steve,” Ellie congratulated him. “Those are some interesting color choices.” Spoken as though she was silently judging, but too polite to say so.
He blushed and held up the first one. “This is for my special friend, they are his favorite colors.” Then he held up the second. “And this is for Robin. The colors remind me of a female robin and the last two represent who I am now.”
Ellie blinked for a moment as she took in the information. “I can see that now. Thank you for explaining it to me.”
“I get my thread at Melvand’s,” she said serenely, “if you wanted to continue to make more, that’s where you would go to get your own.”
Steve kissed the top of her head. “Thank you, Ellie.”
He didn’t stay much longer than that, now that both of the other boys were gone, Joyce was keeping too close an eye on him with Ellie. He knew it wasn’t the gay thing as she didn’t mind Will being around her. And it wasn’t being a barely legal adult considering she would gladly leave Jonathan to look over her.
Nope.
It was entirely because she didn’t know who Steve’s mysterious benefactor was. And the thought of this unknown, probably male, person might hear about Ellie later? Yeah, that’s where she drew her invisible line.
Which was bullshit, like with Robin’s mom, Eddie wasn’t going to prey on little girls. He was freaking out about Steve might be underage when they met in the club. But it wasn’t like he could tell Joyce that. She might revoke his time with Will and Ellie if she learned he had been underaged drinking that night. The night Eddie saved him.
Steve went up to his hotel room and flopped face first into his bed. He was tired. Tired of all the questions about finding a job and getting out from under Eddie’s thumb. Like Eddie was financially abusing him or whatever.
He just wanted to bring people to his hotel room and show them all the little things Eddie sent him just because he walked into a gas station and saw something cute he thought he would like. The keychain from Kansas City with his name on it. The bright yellow shirt that said “I don’t take no shit” and had the Iowan state bird of the American goldfinch. That one came with a little note explaining that it was a canary, but the black on the wings reminded Eddie of the deliciously tight black leather pants.
Steve blushed for hours after that one.
He wiggled onto the bed and crawled under the covers without having taken off any of his clothes. Maybe he could hibernate until Eddie got back in America.
~
Steve managed to bury himself under the covers before the porter with the felting sister ripped the blanket off from over his head.
He stared blearily up at the porter. “Martin?” He struggled to sit up, but flopped back down on the pillow in distress. “Just leave me alone.”
“It’s Marty actually,” the porter huffed. “The only people that call me Martin are my boss and my mom. You’re not either.”
“Marty, I just want to go back to sleep.”
Marty pulled the rest of the blankets and yanked Steve off the bed. He went with a startled yelp. He leapt to his feet to fight him, but he saw that Bob and Rosa were standing by his bed with looks of concern on their faces.
“I have the shower running,” Bob said, “you will get in there and at least clean off the sweat you reek of. Then Rosa will change the sheets. Marty will bring up some food while you are showering, then the three of us are staging an intervention, because this isn’t like you!”
Steve opened his mouth to refute that statement, probably something about how no one called the whole time he as sulking.
Bob pulled out a stack of messages. “I have thirteen messages, and that’s only because the answering machine is full.”
Steve looked behind him and sure enough the machine was blinking complete with a full tape.
“Oh.”
He meekly went and did as he was told. He was only going to do a perfunctory wipe down because they were waiting for him, but once he got under the water it felt so good that he began to thoroughly scrub himself down. Normally going without a shower for a couple of days really didn’t do much, but because he had barely moved to pee, he was covered in thin layer of sweat.
He washed his hair and got out of the shower. He dried himself off and put on the long robe Eddie had gotten him. He opened the door and was instantly hit with enticing aroma of chicken noodle soup. He moved out of the bathroom to the main room, lured by the scent of real food.
The sofa was full of the hotel employees so he grabbed his bowl of soup and spoon and sat down on the armchair curled up as small as he could make himself.
“You frightened us, mi corazón,” Rosa huffed. “You weren’t answering your phone, you weren’t ordering food. The only way we could tell you moved at all is that occasionally the cup in the bathroom would be wet or you would be on the other side of the bed.”
Bob nodded. “We were told to look after you, money was no object. That’s what we were told, but you turned out to be kind and generous and frankly better than ninety percent of the patrons here. You treat us like we’re human, so it became our pleasure to serve you. So when you weren’t opening your door to anyone or answering your calls, we knew something was wrong.”
“Sorry,” Steve muttered into his bowl. “I just got so tired of everyone trying to find out who is bankrolling my life style and telling me to get a job that I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.”
“It’s none of their business,” Rosa huffed. “They’re just jealous that they don’t have this life. I know your papa wants to hurt and all this for you protection, but it seems to me your friends just see the money you...” she snapped her fingers. “What’s the word?”
“I’d use ‘splash around’,” Steve said with a shrug.
“Ehhh,” she knew it wasn’t the word she was looking for but it would have to do. “They see the good. Not the bad. They see new car, but they weren’t there to see you give up your old car. They see the fancy hobbies, but they don’t see your big room and no one to fill it with.”
“She’s right,” Marty said. “I don’t think even the girl that comes with your gifts from Eddie Munson quite understands the crippling loneliness and isolation you have to be feeling right now.”
Steve sniffled into his soup. “Thanks, guys. I don’t know how to impress upon them how dangerous this all is for me. Like the only ones that remotely understand are the Hendersons and that’s because my dad showed up on their doorstep. But even then I don’t think Dustin quite grasps the enormity of it all, but then he’s thirteen so...”
“The only reason your father hasn’t penetrated hotel security,” Bob said with a grimace, “is that the owner, Dr. Sam Owens hates business men like your father. Otherwise, his hold over this town would have extended to here, no doubt about that.”
“So this is what’s going to happen,” Marty said, “if you need to sneak out and just go for a drive to get out of your head, call Bob and he’ll arrange it. If you need someone to talk to ring up Rose or myself. We’re here for you. We understand that Mr. Munson is out of the country right now and it makes it harder, but we’ve got you, okay?”
Steve nodded and said weakly, “Okay!”

Ride 791: Replacing the lead!!
Pag 1
1: In the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, located at the border with Ooita Prefecture, there's Mt. Hiko, consisting of three peaks, that reaches the altitude of 1200m
2: It has a long history and it's long been worshipped as a training ground for monks
3: Currently, a slope car leading to Mt. Hiko's shrines has been constructed, and a lot of tourists go there to see the autumn leaves' color, the winter's silver frost, and for mountain climbing
4: The main shrine is built on top of Mt. Hiko's sacred mountain, Nakadake
5: Halfway up, passing through the west side, as the altitude increases, there's the winding highway number 500
Pag 2
1: The stage for the mountain stage of the Inter High's first day
Pag 3
1: Kumamoto Daichi is still at the top!! The local team from Kyushu!!
Goo!!
2: He passed the 3km left to the finish line point!!
I see figures following Kumadai's Fujiwara....
4: It's two people!!
Two people!?
Pag 4
1: It's Manami and Mountain King!!
Pag 5
1: I see his back!! One person
Is he the lead!?
2: So it seems!!
3: Two people!! Dammit, they really did catch up!!
So the voices in the audience I heard saying that Onoda and Manami were approaching were true!!
4: Kumadai!! Bad news coming from behind!! Raise your pace!!
5: But I won't lose!! I'm very calm!!
My condition has never been this good!!
Pag 6
1: Alright, once we pass that guy it'll become”the winner will get the mountain prize”!!
3: The one who wins will get the “mountain prize”!! In a race it's better to have some kind of prize
Suddenly...
Pag 7
1: I'm getting fired up!!
3: Okay!! Good!!
Pag 8
1: Woah!!
He's accelerating again!!
2: His concentration is rising again!!
4: His legs are turning more than before!!
5: I can see it from behind, so I get it well
6: You probably don't understand it yourself, but right now you're pedaling with an amazing efficiency of power transmission
Amazing
7: It's like he's 100% synchronized with his bike!!
Really... you
Pag 9
1: He has the power of turning his joy into concentration!!
2: They're already approaching!!
Pag 10
1: I'm sorry but I'll surpass you!!
2: No doubt!!
3: Really... this guy is so strange
4: Last year, on the second day's mountain, after we were passed by Kyofuhi, he chased after them
5: Since we're both running in the same Inter High, this year, before the start I called out to him
I wanted to greet you
I'm Kumadai's Fujiwara. This will be our last Inter High together
Pag 11
1: Wh-wh-wh- what is it!?
He's super nervous!!
2: Are you okay!? Take a deep breath
If you have any problems, you can call anyone from Kumadai, our numbers are in the 60s
Th- ye-
3: Th- thank you so much. Ah... you ran last year with Kumadai's Isa-san – Masa-san...?
That's right, you remember!! I'm Fujiwara Masayuki!!
4: I became captain, too
5: Ahh, is that so? Congratulations!!
No wait, you don't have to bow your head like that
We should do that to each other
6: Such an extremely small and humble guy...
7: That's always the first impression of Onoda...
Thank you for coming here
8: But every year, once he gets on his bike and climbs a mountain, this guy...
Pag 12
1: he feels overwhelmingly big when he approaches!!
Pag 13
1: I don't understand him
And also, he's always...
2: Thank you very much for this morning
Thanks to you, I calmed down a little!!
3: He's so polite...!!
4: I can't help but support him
Do your best Onoda
5: Yes!!
Pag 14
2: Any time now, huh?
3: I guess so
4: Onoda-kun will be reaching the race's climax
5: It's about time they passed the other climbers and started their race
Pag 15
1: I wonder if he's having fun
Hm, yeah, since he was looking forward to it
2: Even though I guess those two are probably thinking of the “mountain prize”as nothing more than a “juice” to buy the other as a treat if they lose
3: Kakaka
That sounds super fun!!
4: Those two
5: In the past two Inter Highs they were both times burdened with heavy races
8: If they can run with a smile, then that's enough
… yeah
Pag 16
1: We're excited too!!
2: Manami-kun moved ahead!!
3: Sakamichi-kun!!
Pag 17
1: 2km left until the mountain stage finish line!!
3: The wind... is blowing from the west
Just ahead of here
4: the trees become lower
5: and it turns back in a U-shape
Pag 18
1: That'll be the decisive moment!!
2: I'll fly!! Sakamichi-kun!!
Pag 19
3: It seems like we'll see them appear here at the mountain gate anytime now
There are currently two people in the lead, and they're passing the 2km point!!
So 2km left, huh
They'll come soon
I can't wait
Pag 20
1: I said it before already, but
2: “History” needs “someone who witnesses it”!!

STORY 2 - Sequel
HOOK: A LUCIFER CENTRIC AU - AO3
Some RadioApple undertones perhaps.
Another idea popped up but I still can't write fully alksjdakljl
I swear this has more plot to it. It will involve the Sins, Luci's siblings, and overlords.
Big idea. Little vocab.
Will link a part 2 when I post it!
--------------
The Hazbin Hotel residents stare in fear as the young Morningstar is having an ugly, one-sided, verbal match with her father.
It has been a stressful day and Charlie was on a short fuse. Vaggie tried to coax her girlfriend to relax but it didn't work. The other residents, minus Alastor, were too afraid to try because if Vaggie couldn't, how could they.
Lucifer was up on his tower when he was called downstairs to get his daughter to calm down but it just made him the primary target for her frustrations.
Charlie: Dad! Stop! I don't need this. I. Am. Fine.
Lucifer: Sweetie, you clearly aren't. Why don't you take a nap? I know that always helped you to calm down.
Charlie: Know?! Tell me, Dad. What exactly do you know about me after not being present in my life for decades??
Lucifer, stunned: Char-char-
Charlie: Don't call me that!
Vaggie: Charlie, I think-
Charlie: I wish it was you who had just got up and disappeared instead of Mom. At least she would've been there for me from the start!
There was a small gasp from Angel but no one dared to make a sound. What can they even say to that? All that can be heard is Charlie's labored breathing.
Lucifer's eyes narrow and his heart breaks a little (liar, the whole just shattered) but he doesn’t say anything. His shoulders slump, eyes void as his gaze never leaves his daughter.
Charlie seems to realize what she had just said and opens her mouth to say something but nothing comes out.
Lucifer: Of course
The King of Hell says it slowly, almost like he's drunk. (But he can't get drunk. Believe him, he tried. He tried multiple times to drink himself to-
Lucifer: But you're exhausted and I'm sure Alastor can pick up where you left off. Go sleep.
The King gives a strained smile to the group then promptly goes back upstairs.
Once he's gone. Charlie moves to follow but is stopped by Alastor blocking her way.
Alastor: I wouldn't try that, my dear. I suggest you listen to your father and rest. Separately.
Charlie: But-
Angel: Not a good time, toots. You fucked up.
And she did.
--------------
I love Charlie okay!!! I just like to think that the most cheerful ones always have the sharpest tongues when frustrated.

——————————
——————————
For as wealthy of a country as Dressrosa was supposedly becoming, shade clearly wasn’t something they’d yet found important enough for including in colosseum upgrades.
You’d had no choice but to fully cover up in layers of clothing today to hide your many injuries. But no matter how you sat now, legs crossed or not, marine coat unbuttoned or not, there was zero breeze and you were getting hot beneath that persistent sun.
Having this tall, pink bird radiating his additional body heat as he insisted on staying hip to hip with you in the booth was not helping either of course.
Feathers grazed against you as you took yet another drink of the iced juice his servants had offered. But you really wanted to put that cold glass against the side of your face. You would have too if the damn cameras hadn’t kept checking back in at the worst times while the sounds of more weapons clashing carried up from below.
But it really was like some higher power just kept kicking you again when you were already down.
Because the juice was pulpy, and overly sweet for your tastes. Something Doflamingo had said was his preference when he’d seen you choose it earlier. So you should have blamed him. When on that final sip something harder in the pulp had caught right in the back of your throat.
Debris that was perfectly sized, too small to force down with additional swallowing. But just big enough to trigger a coughing fit as you left your now empty glass on the ledge of the booth.
You grabbed Doflamingo’s drink next. Some rich, dark beer you’d never heard of. Something you were not supposed to be drinking on duty anyway as you suddenly downed it like it was a late night, after hours in Marineford instead.
“Shit.” You still coughed several more times, but feeling that piece finally dislodge in the rush of alcohol.
“Well...I can’t say I’ve ever seen someone try to drown themselves with pomegranate juice before.” His mocking tone accompanied the stare you’d obviously now earned. “Did you forget the difference between breathing and drinking for a moment there, marine?”
And you glared up at him, everything only made worse when you saw that condescending expression on his face.
“Seeds got caught in my throat, you jerk. If you wanted your juice that damn thick, you should have just stuck a straw in a raw fruit for gods’ sake!”
But you saw the weird way Doflamingo paused. And then abruptly, the way the muscles in his brow shifted to give away that his smile had now spread to his concealed eyes.
“You swallowed the seeds then?”
“Well yes.” But such a simple question was far more off putting when he was now looking at you like that. “Should I have spit them out onto you instead?” You tried to fuss back, flustered really of what could possibly be going through that mess of his mind now.
“They don’t teach much literature in those naval classes do they?” He just answered with a question of his own, still looking inexplicably amused. “Just books on a thousand ways to tie ropes and how to properly mop decks then?”
“I don’t know what you’re on about.” You retorted, even still coughing an additional time then.
“I have an entire library back at the palace you know.” He said, even as he made a gesture with his hand to summon another drink tray. “I think I’ll pick out some books on this for you tomorrow. You’ll need something to do anyway while I’m back in meetings. I’d hate for you to be too bored and lonely, just pining for my return all day.”
Of course his taunting tone said otherwise. He’d love you to have nothing better to do than just lay around for hours waiting for him to climb back on top of you, you were sure.
“Go to hell.” You huffed, albeit still gladly taking a water this time as the servants were back before you both then.
“Already there, darling.” He quipped, still grinning as he grabbed another beer from their tray in replacement of the one you’d just demolished for him.
“And we have our first knockout of the competition!” The announcer’s voice boomed with excitement as you and Doflamingo finally looked away from one another and to the scene below then.
You’d already learned that everything was so over the top in this place, bordering on barbaric honestly.
But you’d done your best to reserve your judgement every time the crowd’s energy had surged when new wounds were opened up or bones were broken in the colosseum battles.
Because it might just be the culture here. Every island had its own traditions, its own history within reason.
Yet when the winner of this latest match began approaching his now unconscious opponent, spear angling further downward to take new aim, you nearly stood.
That was finally well beyond reason to you.
“He’s already down!” You said to the warlord. Your hand had closed on Doflamingo’s forearm in reflex.
And the fresh cruelty budding in that pirate’s smile while he looked from your hand now gripped onto his arm, and then back to your concerned face made you pause all over again.
“Oh, dear woman…a good bloodletting gets these animals excited like the hateful things they really are. Are you going to deny them this release?”
“There are children here.” You managed to retort. But the fresh tinge of disgust was obvious in your eyes.
These were people, not things.
Doflamingo still chuckled, like a mix of false sympathy and real distaste as his own hand abruptly rose above you. “And you are far too predictable, love. You’ll owe me again for this one.”
And the previous roar of the crowd quieted in the resulting confusion.
Only with the snail cameras then zooming in were you able to see that true result on the screen. Your surprise matching the other spectators as what now looked like a spider’s web had materialized from nowhere to block the kill shot.
The aggressor’s spear now hung in midair from where it’d been thrown. Its sharp metal tip pressed into that web, unable to penetrate past it and cross just those few inches that remained to the target’s throat.
“And…and I can’t believe it, ladies and gentlemen!” The announcer exclaimed again. “His majesty has interceded into the fight! Sire!? Would you like to address the crowd!?”
Some woman in gladiator attire was then at the booth before you knew it. She appeared to be part of the colosseum workers as she bowed in respect all the while offering Doflamingo a microphone.
You heard the warlord laugh quietly, speaking just to you before that microphone was in range to pick his voice up.
“See the trouble you’ve started?” He chided.
And yet he still took that microphone from her as if this was also second nature to him. No hesitation at all as he relaxed further back into the stone seating beside you.
His arm went tight around your shoulders to keep you in that resulting camera shot with him as well.
“I’m only being a hospitable host, Gatz.” Doflamingo’s best charismatic tone now echoed through the colosseum as he addressed the announcer by name. The whole venue was now silent except for their king.
“The captain here isn’t yet acclimated to the normal rules our gladiators live and die by. Just now, she expressed an interest to me in seeing even this loser have an opportunity to fight another day. Because she believes adversity can sometimes lead to improvement, even within the weak.”
He gave a slight sneer then, but remained relatively calm. “I disagree of course. However, I promised her we could try things her way just for today. So not only will there be no executions during today’s events…”
And he did pause briefly there, anticipating the crowd’s palpable shock. But he knew just when to continue as well, keeping them enraptured as he then dropped the next apparent change.
“But also, at the conclusion of today’s competition, the captain will also be granted one pick from all current participants to grant a full royal pardon to. And that gladiator will walk free from the colosseum this very evening, by her grace alone.”
You hadn’t known a thing about this of course. But your instincts were quick to believe it wasn’t at all an improvisation.
He’d planned this.
He’d known exactly how you were going to react as the battles worsened, and you’d played right into it.
And now he was doing his favorite trick again because of that. Controlling you at the exchange of human lives.
In Mariejois you’d submitted to him under the implication of him harming both yourself and your crew if you’d revealed him as Joker.
In Sabaody, he’d freed slaves from his own auction house in exchange for your promising to soon meet him again.
And in Scylla, he’d demanded your fidelity and made you promise to always return to him. Otherwise the life lost would clearly be your own.
“So I’d advise our competitors to do their best to impress her. She’s got very high standards after all.” Doflamingo still added, briefly smirking down at you.
He was complimenting himself of course there, implying that he was already one of your so called “high standard” choices.
With so much amusement, this man could make an instant game out of people’s lives and freedom. All the while still having the gall to stroke his own ego right on top of it.
—————————
And just those few hours later, he was already refusing to help you at all in this dilemma he’d so gladly created.
“Just fucking pick one.” Doflamingo drawled, sounding bored by then as Gatz was still talking over you both across the stadium speakers. The battles were done at last, the competitors reentering the arena one by one as the announcer reintroduced them to go through the final motions.
The sun was just beginning to set. Something you couldn’t even appreciate as the sky began changing to vibrant hues of pink and red.
Because you didn’t have an answer yet.
“That isn’t fair to them.” You insisted. “It can’t just be random.”
The warlord’s lips upturned a little, yet another beer still in his hand. “Then be lazy and let the crowd choose for you. I don’t care. Just hurry up. My ass is falling asleep. I’m tired of sitting here.”
“This whole production was your idea, you dick!”
“Yeah well, the fights take that much longer when they can’t just kill one another. It’s still your fault this had to be so drawn out.”
You made a dissatisfied sound in your irritation. He wanted you to just pick whoever the crowd had seemed most fanatic about. But you weren’t feeling that. Because they had cheered loudest for only the most violent participants.
Which seemed like a terrible criteria for choosing the person who was about to be released back into society.
Yet you could feel that Gatz was about to direct the cameras back to the royal booth at any moment.
Fuck. You were just going to have to go with your instincts. You didn’t have any information on each prisoner’s actual crimes to do any better with this.
“The tall guy with the tattoo and the ponytail.” You said quickly to Doflamingo then.
The fighter you now referenced was one of the first to have come back into the stadium in this final showing, and you’d already forgotten what Gatz had called him.
But Doflamingo did sit up a little more then, looking down at them all to see who you meant. Yet you saw his smirk fade once his gaze found the only man that matched your description.
“Fine. A deal’s a deal.”
And with almost a huff, the warlord made a sudden gesture with his hand. You’d known the executives were close by. Yet it’d still surprised you when Diamante was abruptly leaning in behind you both at that nonverbal summons.
“Yes, Doffy?” That creep of a man asked, far too close for your comfort.
“Diamante, remind me. What’s that fucker’s name? The one with the ink nearly on his cock. She likes him apparently.” Doflamingo grumbled, his fingers tightening on your side as his arm had moved back around your waist.
And you had to stare at the pirate when he gave this new description.
Because yes, that prisoner was shirtless and had a lower abdominal tattoo. With the bottom of that image partly obscured by the belt line of his loincloth.
But for all that was holy, did Doflamingo actually have a hint of jealousy in his voice again now? As if physical appearance had anything to do with your pick?
Diamante did answer easily with the name though. “He was one of Riku’s army captains.” He also added after with evident distaste.
“Wait…what?” you tried to interrupt at that. Because your true, only reason for choosing that particular gladiator was that in all the fighters you’d watched, he’d shown the most restraint.
Someone with real self control that you’d hoped would be the least likely to threaten an average citizen once freed.
But if they were now saying that he was part of the previous regime that had slaughtered those very same citizens under Riku’s command, then these two things just didn’t add up to you.
Could your instinct be that wrong?
“Does that mean he participated in Riku’s attack?” You asked seriously, butting in again.
“Of course he did. But I told you to pick someone the crowd liked. You wouldn’t do it. This is on you.” Doflamingo sneered a little at that, still confirming your choice regardless. “That’s the one you’re letting go, Diamante. Go tell Gatz. And remind him of my announcement too.”
“Yes, Doffy.” Diamante didn’t argue, though he also looked displeased with you before he was gone again soon enough.
And you must have had an expression of further concern on your own face, worrying over the possible ramifications of this as you heard Doflamingo finally chuckle again.
As if he couldn’t stay irritable with you when you were just this pathetic.
“Poor thing. Not easy making these decisions, is it?” He asked you. He was now rubbing your side with that large hand. “Don’t worry, we’re almost done here. And then I’ll be all yours again.”
———————————
Gatz had loudly announced your choice of who to pardon, and as expected the crowd had given a mixed reaction at best.
Their resentment to anyone associated with Riku’s former regime was still so visceral. A joke that just kept on giving as Doflamingo couldn’t help but gloat a bit.
Because they were all so fucking gullible. In that prisoner, they only saw someone who had once ravaged their own people without hesitation.
But you, a woman who had been here at the colosseum all of a single afternoon, had already seen straight through this. You’d zeroed in on likely the least corrupted in all of the current choices and picked accordingly.
It was impressive really. Highly annoying to him, but impressive none the less.
And Doflamingo had rolled his eyes behind his glasses when that now former prisoner did fall to his knees in the arena at the news of his unexpected freedom.
The idiot was actually crying by then, crying about soon being reunited with his family and thanking you over and over. While Gatz was playing the storyline up all the more, waxing poetic about your supposed indiscriminate mercy and unique capacity for forgiveness as you looked entirely uncomfortable in the whole situation.
But Doflamingo knew it would still work out in the long run. A single, former Riku loyalist back on the loose was no concern to him after all. Because this was perfect bait for others to follow.
Your kindness could soon become like a goddamn siren call to flush out his enemies.
His irresistible siren.
That wasn’t an inaccurate metaphor really.
And as Gatz gradually finished up, Doflamingo was now taking slightly deeper breaths himself without willing it.
His muscles were tensing and releasing again as he downed the rest of his current beer.
The real show was finally at hand. What he’d been waiting for all afternoon.
And that actual tinge of nervousness was still foreign to him as his hand had returned to his pants’ pocket, fingers tightening around that ring.
“And before the official conclusion of today’s events, it has been commanded that all you good people of Dressrosa please remain seated! As his royal highness, king Donquixote Doflamingo has an announcement to make!”
And their king did stand then, postured at his full height as the snail cameras had to zoom out to then keep you both in frame on the stadium’s screen.
You were sitting properly again for the cameras of course, with your back straight and your eyes cautiously on him. His disciplined marine once more.
Because you did know how to play this part of the game, whether you could yet admit it or not. The falsehood of putting on a strong front.
Another colosseum worker had scurried over then, presenting Doflamingo with a microphone again. He took it to hold in one of his hands, your ring hooked with his fingertip by the other hand still in his pocket.
“Citizens of Dressrosa…” Doflamingo’s smooth voice filled the stadium as all else quieted once more. “I hope you’ve enjoyed the festivities today. And I’m glad everyone could be here this evening on such short notice. As I do have a confession to make that concerns us all.” And his grin widened further in the dark humor of that implication.
Because there were a thousand crimes that would have lit this place up in an instant if he had divulged even a single one of them.
“I haven’t been entirely honest with you.” His heart was beginning to pound regardless.
But he liked it.
He liked the thrill in this risk versus reward.
He had waited so long for this.
“But that secrecy has been for a very good reason. Because the media would have spun this out of control as they’ve already tried to do. So much so that the very peace and stability of this island may have been threatened.”
He was still smiling, letting the lies begin to flow easier and easier from his wicked mouth.
“And I knew I owed it to you, the loyal denizens of this country to be the first to hear it direct from me when the time was right. To tell you of the choice I’ve made which will affect all our futures.”
And now he did see you, in the peripheral vision of his good eye as you started to look more stressed. That flicker of panic beginning behind those lovely eyes of yours.
You really were a smart girl where it mattered. Thankfully so, as he’d have tolerated little else in the long run.
He glanced down to you, turning his head to do so. He was making his attention on you undeniable again for those cameras.
“You see, contrary to prior reports, this woman is far from a recent acquaintance to me.”
If everyone was to know, then of course he would put his own spin on the narrative. He could rewrite this as easily as Morgans could.
Doflamingo would make it what he wanted it to be. Not what it really was.
“The captain here is a distinguished marine, yes. Which unfortunately, put us briefly on opposing sides some years ago.”
Oh, the way he knew he was already sanitizing this. As if talking about only a sporting like competition between the two of you then, rather than a trading of blood, bullets, and the warships that’d been out for his hide.
“But as we all know, through my own merit and perseverance, I also rose so quickly to be recognized for what I really was.”
And goddamn, it was actually fun to say this with almost a straight face. “No longer just a pirate, but a guardian of this world. One of the seven warlords, standing now beside her marines as a crucial pillar in the balance of powers on behalf of our world government.”
He was acting as if you two were truly the same, as if you always had been. That you were the self-sacrificing defenders of all these wretches now hanging on his every word.
And your hands were clenching against the top of your skirt in your lap again.
It was all utter bullshit and you knew it.
His grin widened.
“But I always desired her.”
An actual truth abruptly there.
He saw your lips part slightly. A sudden gun to your head likely would have provoked less surprise now in your eyes.
“So the very moment that ink was dry on my government contract, when my name was rightfully cleared and my honor restored, I called on this woman of course.”
His fingers were anxiously turning that ring in his pocket now.
“And we’ve been together ever since. In secret to protect her career from all the close minded fools who may still not accept this truth of our shared feelings.”
A sound went through the crowd of course, that mix of true surprise and excitement.
It was every trope he could throw into this. The star crossed lovers, the lonely heroes, the redeemed king pining for his mate that should be untouchable by the prior blood on his hands.
But he still wasn’t done. Because Doflamingo always wanted it all. And he refused to share you even with the ghosts of your past.
“We even went so far as to fabricate other brief relationships to throw the public off of our scent. Just peers of ours who were willing to let their names be tossed into the rumor mill here and there in order to protect us.”
Kuzan, Crocodile, Smoker…fuck them all. They’d had their chances and burned you both. They weren’t going to get any secondary fame any longer because of it.
This was his spotlight now.
“But after three years together…” He was counting from the day he became a warlord of course. At least giving you that sliver of mercy to imply the fucking hadn’t started until he had immunity from prosecution. When he was no longer legally a criminal at least.
When in reality, your very first physical time together had been closer to only three months ago. That day in Mariejois when he’d first closed his hand around your throat and then pounded his raw cock into you for all he was worth not long after. A whole new euphoria he would never forget that initial dose of.
“We’re not going to hide this any longer.”
His chest tightened as he felt that tangible flare of your haki. But he doubted you would dare strike him here. Not in front of everyone at least.
Doflamingo smiled.
Didn’t you know that fire inside only made him want you all the more?
“And this country will become even safer under her and my dual protection. We will have a marine port of call established here, just as we implied in Scylla. Dressrosa will be the new home for both her subordinates, as well as the roots for our future royal family.”
The cameras were flashing like lightning, the crowd’s roar the resulting thunder as he finally slid that ring from his pocket.
Your whole identity, your career, and your freedom was likely burning right before you as he saw your eyes look at that jeweled band in the fading sunlight.
A large diamond was in its center, rising above smaller rubies framing it as if they were droplets of blood. Their red reflection casting almost a pink hue across that larger faceted stone.
Like the diamond itself was a survivor rising from the blood of the battlefield.
There’d been no other choice in his mind as soon as he’d seen this ring. He’d known it was perfect.
Like you.
“Marry me.” And Doflamingo’s dark voice said those two words so simply. Firmly for all to hear across the speakers as he held that ring between the two of you.
There was no intonation of a question in that command, but he did not reach for you either to force your hand.
He was still standing, looking down at you. You were seated, so still in the silence that had consumed the colosseum once more as his subjects awaited your answer.
He would not kneel of course. Only in the privacy of the bedroom and within the throws of full passion would he ever do that for you.
No, here in front of all these nameless fleas, it was up to you to rise to meet him. To be worthy of this honor as he loomed above you.
And he did see you take a deep breath. Your haki had stabilized again at last, quieting in tandem to your careful body language as you did stand to your feet.
You held your head up, a forced grace that still didn’t match the sharp look in your eyes. You were staring into those red sunglasses of his in a way that made his stomach tighten.
Like a lioness on a too thin chain.
It could still all go wrong. Because your desire was unclear and wavering. You couldn’t win, but he knew that you could hurt him.
Did you want to hurt him?
His armament was ready. His heart was pounding.
And then you exhaled.
You raised your left hand up from your side, holding it out flat before him.
“Yes.”
Doflamingo did blink behind his glasses at such a small, yet life changing word. The surrender from you that was all it took to launch the crowd into an explosion of hysterics and roaring cheers as he did slip that ring onto your waiting finger.
Their new noise shook the stadium louder than anytime he’d ever heard before as he watched you with some amazement.
He’d abandoned the microphone now, tossed away for someone else to catch or not. He didn’t care.
He didn’t see anything but you in this moment as he squatted slightly, leaning down as well. Whatever he needed to do to catch you by the lips as he’d tilted your head back when the urge overcame him. His grip then so tight beneath your jaw.
And if you really had blasted him with every ounce of haki you possessed in that moment, he still would not have stopped. His mouth was back over yours, fully greedy and exhilarated.
It was now the kiss of victory for all to see as the crowd continued to scream and the cameras flashed.
——————————
“Do you want to answer any of their questions?” Doflamingo breathed against your ear. His taste was still fully in your mouth by the time he’d released your lips again. That kiss had been so rough and you could tell he still wanted more, much more.
But you were having trouble catching your breath. The noise, the camera flashes, and the remaining heat you’d endured for hours now were all culminating into this oppressive crush down upon you.
You really couldn’t breathe. Your pulse was racing. “No.” It was nearly a plea. “I want to go.” You said against his open shirt.
And for that single moment at least he did listen to you. He heeded you immediately.
You heard him call out to Trebol. The closest executive then to you both, that snotty piece of shit that you still refused to even look at.
“We’re heading somewhere quieter!” Doflamingo still had to be loud to be heard above the crowd. “Call me when they’re ready at the palace!”
“Will do, Doffy!”
And that was it. No other warning except for the way Doflamingo’s arms encircled you even tighter before your organs felt like they were being ripped down into your feet.
The ground was gone. The only noise then the air rushing past your ears as you closed your eyes in reflex to that sudden blast.
Any exposed skin you had now registered the temperature change as well. Everything around you abruptly cold and drier then as all went silent once the movement had stopped again.
You could feel your legs hanging freely now. Your arms moved up to slide tightly around Doflamingo’s neck as you dared to take another breath.
“Fuck…” You panted quietly, your eyes opening again even as you refused to look fully down just yet.
“Yes. The air is a good deal thinner up here. But it’s private. Silent. The birds don’t even come this high.”
And your wholly unorthodox method of transportation was now breathing deeper himself to adjust. His bare chest still so warm against you in contrast to the ever growing darkness, and the creeping cold which accompanied it.
The sun would soon be slipping completely below that far off horizon. The ocean mainly all you could still see. The island of Dressrosa was now just a small circle within it, the lights of the towns nothing bigger than fireflies at this distance.
“I meant…that I wanted to go back to the palace.” You at last responded, trying to regather yourself.
“And miss this view from heaven?” He taunted you still.
But as his grip on you started to loosen, your natural fear only began to rise. Your body knew it did not belong up here, literally now just an arm’s reach from the bottom edges of the clouds his strings were somehow suspending him from.
This was the very reason mother ocean detested unnatural talents such as his.
“Doffy...” You tried again, still unable to calm your now racing heart.
“Don’t tell me I’ve finally found something that my woman is actually afraid of?” And that grin of his was so infuriatingly smug.
“You know this isn’t…at least this isn’t the only reason I’m having a…I don’t even know what I’m having.”
A meltdown? Another panic attack? A complete shattering of everything you’d ever been and had worked so desperately to achieve?
“Why didn’t you at least warn me that you were going to do it this way!?” Your voice finally broke then as you looked to his face again.
His smile was fading. “You’ll have to be more specific than that.”
“You lied and told everyone we’ve been together this whole time!”
This was not how it was supposed to be.
And he was just watching you as if this was of no consequence while you went on.
“You just told the entire world that I have been going behind my commander’s back for fucking years, Doflamingo. And that everyone who knew about me and Kuzan or me and Smoker can now call me a cheating bitch…when I’m not, none of that is true!”
And you saw his brow change as soon as their names were mentioned. You knew he was beginning to glare at you from behind those crimson lenses.
“By all means, let’s talk about your other men and their feelings on this while I dangle you a few thousand feet above sea level. That sounds reasonable to me.” He sneered at you.
His hands had closed around your wrists. He was pulling your arms away from his neck now. Your body was starting to slip.
A clear threat, but you knew he was somewhat bluffing. He wouldn’t kill you outright, not tonight at least. Not right after a display like that at the colosseum. He had to keep this farce going in front of the public in the short term at least, lest he be the one to look like a fool.
But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t punish you if you kept going.
You were sure he could let you fall as many times as he wanted. Then catch you at the last moment just to do it all over again.
And he would absolutely be that cruel if you instigated this further.
But you were also so angry, that you truly didn’t care any longer.
“Then do it.” Your voice broke again. “If you’re really that goddamn hateful! Have your laugh and torture me like you would anyone else. I’m tired of trying to make you understand what you clearly don’t want to!”
You saw him pause as your voice rose further at him. Though he was now holding you by only one wrist as you watched him defiantly, waiting for the drop.
You knew his pride wouldn’t allow any other response. You knew that he was going to do it. That he would think he had to do it.
His only hesitation may be in his disbelief that you were actually choosing this.
That was the only thing you could assume as a grunt came from that man’s throat instead of a laugh. There was no smile. It only looked like an involuntary twitch of stress pulling the corner of his mouth further down.
An expression of actual misery just before his hand snapped open and you plummeted.
The fucking idiot.
And you didn’t scream. Somehow you forced yourself not to. Your eyes closed tightly as you crossed your arms over your chest and put your ankles together beneath you.
This was the safest way you might dive feet first into the ocean from the highest rigging overhanging the water off of a ship.
You had to pretend that’s all this was.
From this height a body would be nothing but a splat of blood and viscera though. Something unrecognizable if you made it that far.
The timing was so hard to tell with your eyes closed though.
Just that terrible feeling and the wind rushing past your ears again as the back of your coat fluttered up behind you.
It probably wouldn’t have even hurt. Death like that would have been instant.
What did hurt was the abrupt deceleration. Only then had you gasped, the pain sudden as your body stopped but your insides didn’t.
Your eyes opened as you clutched at your torso, feeling like things had actually tried to rip inside. Things that never should have moved at all as you twisted in his new strings.
Even through your harsh breathing you could now hear the sea. And your eyes widened when you realized how close it really all was. You could see the waves, breaking gently in the night’s breeze.
A secluded beach was just beneath you. Outside of that rocky ring of cliff face that surrounded most of Dressrosa.
And then the strings had moved again. You were jerked down before being dumped right into that warm sand.
You stumbled, falling onto your knees. But you were still holding your body just below your breasts.
You were too mad to cry by then. You just moved to sit in that sand, not even looking up as those long black shoes met the beach not long after and already began approaching you.
“I guess I forget that I string my insides as well to absorb that shock without thinking.” His tone was cold, almost monotone now. “And you can’t.”
You bit your own lip, refusing to look up at him yet.
And in all of it. In everything he’d just said and done this evening, what you still hated more than anything was how your heart felt like it was going to twist itself in two.
And that had nothing to do with the fall.
“Doffy…” You said his name in continued irritation, but with grief beginning to show fully on your face.
Even out of your peripheral vision you saw him straighten up at that single word.
“Do you know what’s the single thing holding me back from loving a man like you?”
What a loaded and entirely dangerous question that was. But you gave him no time to respond. You were yelling at this fucking monster next as you glared back up at him, grief and frustration bursting back out all together then.
“It’s only self preservation! Not self respect, not being a marine, not Tsuru, not Kuzan, not even your fucking crimes! I just want to be able to fucking trust you! For one goddamn day for you to not be a complete nightmare! I don’t understand…you say you goddamn want me. You beg me to stay, to say that I love you. And yet you still treat me like this, every single day. Nearly every day you find a new way to hurt me! I can’t do it. I’m not unbreakable. You’re going to kill me eventually! So why not just do it and be done!?”
He stared at you, silent for several moments. But you could see that blood vessel rising on his forehead.
“Why did you say yes to me so easily then?” His voice was so different there, so strained when it finally came.
And you didn’t hesitate to respond to that, regardless of the rising danger once more. “The easy answer? I didn’t want you to have a tantrum and start slicing through people of course!”
But you still scoffed, not stopping there either. “But the truth? I don’t want to be alone either, you asshole! And I know that no one else is ever going to stay with me for long. Because there is something very wrong with me. Something that only you aren’t afraid of. I don’t know why! But it’s a goddamn curse!”
You heard a low growl from him then even as those waves still moved rhythmically in and out along the shore.
“It’s not my fault.”
He said this so suddenly, so oddly, that you just had to stare at him as you watched his fist clench at his side.
“The way I treat you…it isn’t my fault!” He hissed at you as you felt that return glare from behind the glasses. His frustration breaking loudly at last. “You drive me fucking crazy! If you would just obey! If you would listen!”
You started to snap back at him. “I’m not your fucking slave! I-“
And he cut you off so quickly. “I don’t care about that! I don’t want you to die! Don’t you understand!? You’re the only one that makes me feel wanted, desired. It’s not transactional, it’s not fucking fake.” He was gritting his teeth, like he couldn’t explain this in the correct words. Like the correct words didn’t exist.
You gestured in exasperation, disbelieving, but knowing this was all the worse if true. “Then you have to work harder! You’re the only one who can protect me from you. If I die, it’s going to be because of you! Don’t you see that!?”
“Then help me!” He yelled right back at you, teeth bared and voice desperate.
This was two insane people now screaming at one another on what should have been a romantic, private beach just after sunset.
And you with a beautiful new engagement ring sparkling on your finger in the starlight all the while.
That finger which now clenched with your others into a fist against your hip. The anger just too much to possibly maintain.
“Fuck, I need alcohol.” You breathed, feeling like you could have punched a hole into a mountain right now if you’d really tried.
But you didn’t want to. And you sensed Doflamingo still all bristled up a few steps away as you told him as much. “I’m not fighting you.”
You did see his shoulders lower slightly, but that blood vessel in his forehead was still pulsing away.
“We’re getting married tonight regardless.” Doflamingo exhaled next, beginning to pace. “I’m not backing down. You’re signing those papers as soon as they’re ready at the palace. Trebol will call when the official arrives to bear witness.”
“And why does it have to be tonight?” You asked more tiredly then. Nothing was really going to surprise you any longer. You had met your limit for today.
“Because I don’t trust anyone either. When my stunt at the colosseum hits the newspapers tomorrow, someone’s going to try and stop us. I know they are. So you’ll smile, you’ll sign every goddamn paper I put in front of you, and it will all be faxed to Mariejois tonight. By morning you’ll already be Mrs. Donquixote and everyone else can go fuck themselves.”
“How romantic.” You answered, your chin now resting on your knees that were pulled up to your chest as you remained sitting in the sand.
And at last it was quiet then. Just the calm of the waves for a while.
Doflamingo had finally stopped pacing, standing there with his hands in his pockets watching the horizon.
For several minutes he remained there, lost in his own thoughts about who knew what before he turned to look at you again.
You heard him sigh, something he didn’t do very often as those long legs eventually carried him back over.
You didn’t fully tense as his ass suddenly met the sand to plop down near you. But you raised your head cautiously to acknowledge him.
“It’ll get better.” He said, almost quietly then to your surprise.
And all of the sudden your legs were moving on their own. You hadn’t even felt him attach a string to your spine this time.
But you frowned as they stretched out on their own accord. You could only wonder what he was planning now before he laid down abruptly, not caring about the sand on his clothes at all apparently.
His head was then resting in your newly available lap that he had just provided for himself by moving your legs.
He shifted his fingers again after as well, still controlling you to make yours go into his hair next as he used his own free hand to remove his sunglasses.
You saw the genuinely tired look in his eyes then as he looked up at you while you were forced to gently stroke his scalp. “I do want you to love me.” He breathed, his eyes remaining on yours.
“I know.” You answered. Not arguing any longer, and not bothering to demand him to release you.
“Just don’t give up on me yet.” He said, his eyes going more half lidded as he let your hand stop petting him. He turned his face, so gently kissing your hand then instead. “Because I already love you.” He added.
And you inhaled quietly. It pulled at you every damn time he said it. “I think…that maybe you want to.”
“If we don’t yet, then we’ll learn how to.” He promised you at that, not actually disagreeing. And he turned onto his side then, briefly closing his eyes with his head still comfortably in your lap.
“We’ll love each other.” Doflamingo said, reinforcing this just loud enough for you to hear over the continued waves. “We’ll have to, because no one else ever will.”

Gabby stirred awake to the soft golden light streaming through the blinds of Glen’s bedroom. She blinked sleepily, nestled in the cocoon of warmth created by Glen’s arms wrapped securely around her. His chest rose and fell steadily beneath her cheek, and she could hear the slow, rhythmic beat of his heart. For a moment, she simply stayed there, letting herself melt into the feeling of comfort and safety that came with being in his arms. Glen shifted slightly, his hand tracing a lazy circle against her back.
“Morning,” he murmured, his voice husky from sleep.
Gabby tilted her head up to look at him, his tousled hair and half-lidded eyes making him look impossibly relaxed.
“Morning,” she replied softly, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“Sleep okay?” he asked, his thumb brushing lightly against her shoulder.
“Mmhmm,” she hummed, tucking herself closer to him. “Best sleep I’ve had in a while.”
They lay there in companionable silence for a few minutes, the world outside muted, as if it was just the two of them in their own little bubble. Gabby closed her eyes, soaking in the quiet intimacy of the moment. She’d never felt so at home, so completely at ease in someone else’s space.
“You good?” Glen asked after a while, his voice gentle but curious.
Gabby opened her eyes, meeting his gaze. “Yeah,” she said, her smile widening. “I am.”
“You sure?” he pressed, his brow quirking slightly. “Yesterday was a lot. Big family, a lot of noise… I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
Gabby hesitated, not because she was unsure, but because she wanted to find the right words to explain how she felt.
“It was a lot,” she admitted finally, “but not in a bad way. Your family is amazing, Glen. They’re so warm and welcoming. I liked all of them. A lot.”
His expression softened, and the corner of his mouth lifted in that small, knowing smile she loved so much.
“They liked you too,” he said. “Mom couldn’t stop talking about how sweet you are. And Lauren… well, you saw how she was.”
Gabby laughed. “She was great. They all were. I was nervous at first, but… being with them felt easy, you know? Like I wasn’t just meeting your family—I was part of it somehow.”
“You are,” Glen said simply, his voice steady and sure. “They are already asking if you’ll be coming to Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
Gabby’s heart swelled at his words, and she lowered her head back onto his chest, letting the steady rhythm of his heartbeat soothe her.
“It’s strange,” she admitted after a moment. “How comfortable I feel. In your life, in your house, with your family… with you..”
Glen’s arms tightened around her, pulling her even closer. “That’s how it’s supposed to feel, right?” He said quietly.
She lifted her head again, her eyes locking with his. “I never thought I’d feel like this,” she confessed. “Like I belong somewhere. With someone.”
“Well, you do,” Glen said, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “With me.”
Gabby’s breath caught at the tenderness in his voice, and she couldn’t help but lean up to kiss him. It was soft and unhurried, the kind of kiss that spoke of trust and promises unspoken.
When they finally pulled apart, Glen rested his forehead against hers. “I could stay here all day,” he murmured, his tone teasing but hopeful.
Gabby chuckled. “Tempting. Very tempting.”
The morning unfolded lazily, with sunlight streaming through the bedroom window, painting soft, golden patterns across the bed. Gabby was nestled against Glen’s chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat lulling her into a sense of perfect contentment.
Neither of them seemed eager to leave the warmth of the bed, their conversation drifting between lighthearted teasing and quiet, meaningful moments. Glen’s fingers traced absent patterns along her arm as they talked, and Gabby couldn’t help but think how natural it all felt.
But eventually, practicality won out. As much as Gabby loved the unhurried pace of their morning, her stomach had other plans, grumbling loudly enough for Glen to notice.
He laughed softly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “Guess that’s our cue to get moving. Can’t have you wasting away on my watch.”
Gabby groaned, burying her face in his chest for one last indulgent moment. “Fine,” she mumbled, her voice muffled. “But only because I’m starving.”
Reluctantly, she slid out of bed, stretching as her feet hit the cool floor. Glen propped himself up on his elbows, watching her with a grin as she grabbed her bag and headed toward the bathroom.
A few minutes later Gabby tied her hair into a loose bun, Glen leaned casually against the doorway, his arms crossed and a soft smile playing on his lips. He was still in his gray T-shirt and flannel pajama pants, looking far too good for someone who just rolled out of bed.
“So, what do you think about brunch?” he asked, his voice warm and easy. “I know this great spot, real laid-back. Best breakfast tacos in the city. Thought it might be nice to get out for a bit.”
Gabby glanced over her shoulder, her eyes lighting up. “Breakfast tacos? Sold. You didn’t even have to try that hard.”
Glen chuckled. “Knew you’d be an easy sell.” He pushed off the doorway, making his way toward her. “This place is kind of a hidden gem. Usually not too busy or crowded. Just good food and good coffee. Sound okay?”
Before Gabby could respond, the buzz of Glen’s phone interrupted the moment. He pulled it from his pocket, glancing at the screen. His smile grew as he read the message.
“It’s my sisters,” he said, looking up at Gabby. “They’re heading to Caroline for brunch and want to know if we want to join them.”
Gabby’s eyebrows lifted in recognition. “Caroline? Isn’t that, like, the brunch spot in Austin?”
“Yeah, it’s pretty famous around here. Great food, but it’s a little… busier than the place I had in mind,” Glen admitted, tilting his head. “They really want us to come, but if you’d rather do something more low-key I’m okay with that too.”
Gabby hesitated, weighing her options. On one hand, spending more time with his family sounded nice—she really had liked them all, and the idea of getting to know them better was appealing. On the other hand, she wouldn’t mind a quieter meal, just the two of them, especially after such a big day yesterday.
“What would you rather do?” she asked, genuinely curious.
Glen shrugged, his easygoing nature shining through. “Honestly? I’m happy either way. Brunch with my family sounds fun, but I wouldn’t mind a little time with just you either.”
Gabby bit her lip, a small smile tugging at the corners. “Let’s go to Caroline,” she decided. “I think it’d be nice to see your family again.”
Glen grinned, clearly pleased. “Alright, Caroline it is. I’ll let them know we’ll head that way.”
* * * *
Caroline’s charming, bustling vibe was already evident as Glen parked his truck in front of the brunch spot. The smell of fresh coffee and pastries wafted through the air as Gabby climbed out, taking in the lively crowd spilling out of the restaurant. It was clear this was a local favorite. They had been advised there would be a 15-20 minute wait, even with Glen’s family calling ahead to reserve a table.
As they walked toward the entrance, Glen shot Gabby a reassuring smile, his hand brushing briefly against hers before pulling back. They were careful not to hold hands, not here, where eyes seemed to linger longer than usual.
Gabby felt a surge of pride seeing how at ease Glen seemed in his hometown. But before she could process the thought, a voice called out behind them.
“Glen!”
Gabby turned just in time to see a woman who appeared to be in her mid-twenties rushing toward them, phone already in hand. Within seconds, more people appeared, and a small group began to gather around Glen. A mix of excitement and awe spread through the crowd, cameras flashing as someone asked for a selfie.
“Sure,” Glen said, flashing a polite smile as he took the first phone handed to him.
Gabby stepped back instinctively, unsure of where to stand. The crowd pressed in closer, and before she knew it, she was nudged to the side by a particularly enthusiastic fan trying to get closer to Glen. The unexpected jostle made her stumble slightly, her heart starting to beat faster as she realized how separated she was from him now, with four or five people in between them.
She hesitated, not wanting to interrupt or draw attention to herself, but also unsure what she was supposed to do in this situation.
“Gabby!”
The familiar voice made her whip around to see Leslie pulling up to the curb in her car. Relief flooded Gabby as Leslie hopped out, her sharp eyes taking in the situation immediately.
“Hey, don’t worry,” Leslie said, striding over with the confidence of someone who’d handled this before. She placed a gentle hand on Gabby’s shoulder. “Come with me. He’ll catch up once he’s done.”
Gabby glanced over her shoulder at Glen, who was smiling for another photo, his attention completely on the crowd. Gabby bit her lip but nodded, allowing Leslie to steer her toward the entrance of Caroline.
“It happens more often than you’d think,” Leslie said as they walked, her tone light and conversational. “Usually, he’s good at keeping it quick, but you know how excited people get when they spot him.”
Gabby managed a small smile. “I wasn’t really sure what to do.”
Leslie chuckled. “It can be overwhelming the first time. Honestly, the best thing you can do is just step back and let him handle it. He’s used to it, and he’ll always come find you when it’s over.”
They reached the front door of Caroline, where a cheerful hostess greeted them. Leslie quickly confirmed their reservation, leading Gabby inside to a cozy table tucked away in the corner. The noise of the restaurant was a welcome distraction, and Gabby felt herself start to relax as she sat down.
Leslie offered a reassuring smile. “See? Easy. He’ll be here in a minute. He never lets it slow him down too long.”
Gabby nodded, grateful for Leslie’s calm presence. Still, as she glanced toward the window, she couldn’t help but feel a strange mix of emotions—pride in how kind and gracious Glen was with his fans, and a flicker of unease at how easily she’d been swept aside.
As Gabby settled into her seat, trying to push the uneasy moment aside, the sound of cheerful voices pulled her attention toward the entrance. Glen’s sister Lauren stepped inside, and Glen’s niece walked beside her while her husband trailed in behind with their son.
“Leslie!” Lauren called out, a warm smile lighting up her face as she approached the table. “Sorry, we’re late! Little miss here insisted on wearing her princess dress, and we had a whole battle over the shoes to match.”
Gabby’s gaze dropped to Glen’s niece who indeed had a sparkly dress paired with mismatched socks and sneakers. She smiled at the sight, and Lauren’s eyes shifted to her daughter as well.
“Good to see you again, Gabby,” Lauren said as the four of them took their seats at the table.
The table quickly filled with chatter as Lauren and Will settled in, their kids adding an energetic buzz to the mix. Gabby found herself swept up in the warmth of Glen’s family dynamic, the way they teased each other and shared stories effortlessly. It reminded her of the easy camaraderie she’d seen at the football game the day before, and once again, she felt that same comforting sense of belonging.
She glanced toward the window, her eyes instinctively searching for Glen. He was still outside, though the crowd had thinned slightly. She could see him crouching to take a photo with a young fan, his easy smile and relaxed posture as genuine as ever.
“He’s always like that,” Lauren said softly, drawing Gabby’s attention back to the table. She followed Gabby’s gaze, her expression fond. “He can’t say no to a fan, no matter how much of a rush he’s in.”
Gabby nodded, warmth spreading through her chest. “It’s one of the things I admire most about him,” she admitted, her voice quiet but sincere.
Before Lauren could respond, the door swung open again, and Glen finally stepped inside. He scanned the room briefly before spotting their table and making his way over, his eyes lighting up when they met Gabby’s.
“Sorry about that,” he said as he reached them, his voice apologetic but tinged with amusement. “I got caught up a bit.”
Glen’s hand found Gabby’s shoulder as he slid into the booth beside her, the touch grounding her instantly.
“Thanks for waiting,” he murmured, his voice low enough for only her to hear.
Gabby looked up at him, her unease from earlier fading completely. “Always,” she replied, her smile soft and full of meaning.
The table buzzed with the comforting hum of conversation as plates arrived, piled high with breakfast favorites. Gabby couldn’t help but smile as Ethan gleefully drowned his pancakes in syrup, much to Lauren’s playful dismay. Across the table, Leslie was mid-story about a disastrous DIY project she and their mom had tackled, making everyone laugh as she dramatically recounted how their dad had to come to the rescue.
As the meal went on, the chatter naturally shifted, and Leslie turned her attention to Glen and Gabby. “So, what’s on the agenda for you two today?” she asked, her tone curious but casual as she cut into her omelet.
Glen glanced at Gabby, his lips curling into a small smile before he answered. “I was thinking of taking Gabby to Allens Boots to get her outfitted with a proper hat and some boots,” he said. “Figured it’s about time to make her officially part of Austin.”
Gabby raised an eyebrow at him, setting her fork down. “Oh, is that so?” she teased, though her cheeks warmed at the idea.
“Absolutely,” Glen said, leaning slightly closer, his voice light but laced with affection. “It’s a rite of passage.”
Leslie grinned, her eyes lighting up. “Oh, you’ll love Allens. They’ve got an incredible selection. You’ll walk out of there feeling like a Texan for sure.”
Lauren, who had been bouncing the toddler on her knee, chimed in. “And what about after that? Any other big plans?”
Glen leaned back in his chair, considering for a moment. “I was thinking we’d head over to SoCo,” he said, referring to Austin’s vibrant South Congress neighborhood. “Walk around, check out the shops, grab a bite to eat. Keep it pretty relaxed.”
Lauren’s face lit up. “That sounds amazing. Actually,” she added, glancing at her husband, “Mom and Dad are watching the twins tonight, so we’re free. We should all go to dinner together and maybe grab drinks after.”
Leslie perked up at the suggestion. “Yes! It’s been forever since we’ve had a proper aibling night out.”
Glen chuckled, turning to Gabby. “What do you think?” he asked, his voice gentle. “Would you want to do dinner and drinks with everyone?”
Gabby took a moment, her gaze flicking between the eager faces at the table and Glen’s warm, steady expression. She loved how he always made sure to include her in the decision, never assuming or pressuring her.
“I think it sounds like fun,” she said, smiling at Lauren and Leslie. “I’d love to spend more time with everyone.”
“Perfect!” Leslie said, clapping her hands together. “This is going to be so much fun. We’ll pick a spot and let you know.”
As the conversation shifted again, Gabby leaned slightly into Glen’s side, her hand brushing against his under the table. He laced their fingers together discreetly, giving her hand a small, reassuring squeeze. She felt her heart warm at the thought of spending the evening with his family, feeling more and more like she belonged in this world he’d brought her into.

The warm, earthy scent of leather hit Gabby the moment they stepped into Allens Boots. Rows upon rows of cowboy boots in every color and style imaginable stretched out before them, the shelves gleaming under the soft overhead lights. Gabby’s eyes widened at the sheer variety.
“Wow,” she breathed, taking it all in. “This is… a lot of boots.”
Glen chuckled beside her, his hand resting lightly at the small of her back. “Told you it’s a rite of passage,” he said, steering her toward a nearby display. “Let’s find you something that says ‘Gabby’s first pair of boots.’”
Gabby glanced at him, amused. “And what exactly does that look like?”
“You tell me,” Glen said, walking beside her. “What’s your style? Bold and colorful? Classic and understated?
“Definitely understated,” Gabby replied, already scanning the shelves for something simple. “Something classic,” she began, running her fingers over a pair of simple, brown leather boots. “Nothing too flashy.”
Glen made a thoughtful sound before shaking his head. “Nah, these are too tame,” he teased, pulling a pair off the shelf that was covered in intricate turquoise embroidery and studs.
Gabby laughed as he held them up. “Absolutely not,” she said, crossing her arms and giving him a mock glare.
“What? You’d look amazing in these,” Glen insisted, grinning.
“Pass,” she said, turning her attention back to the simpler designs.
Eventually, Gabby found a pair she loved—classic brown leather with just enough detail to feel special without being over the top. She slipped them on, testing the fit as Glen crouched down beside her, checking how they looked on her feet.
“They’re perfect,” she said, smiling down at him.
Glen looked up at her, his expression soft. “They suit you,” he agreed.
Satisfied with her choice, Gabby started to stand, but Glen suddenly straightened, his eyes lighting up as he caught sight of a display nearby.
“Hold on,” he said, striding over.
“What are you up to now?” she asked, watching him pull a cowboy hat from the rack.
“Trust me,” Glen said, turning back to her with the hat in hand.
Gabby tilted her head, raising an eyebrow as he stepped closer. “I don’t know if I’m a hat person,” she began, but Glen gently placed the hat on her head before she could protest further.
“Let me be the judge of that,” he said, adjusting it just so.
Gabby caught her reflection in a nearby mirror and turned her head slightly, studying the hat. It was a light tan color with a classic shape, understated but undeniably stylish.
“Well?” she asked, turning back to Glen. “How do I look?”
Glen’s response was immediate and wordless—a soft smile spreading across his face as his eyes lingered on her, full of warmth and something deeper.
“Beautiful,” he said softly, his voice steady and sincere.
Gabby’s cheeks flushed, and she ducked her head slightly, trying to hide her smile. “You’re biased,” she teased, though her heart fluttered at the way he was looking at her.
“Maybe,” Glen admitted, taking her hand in his and giving it a gentle squeeze. “But I’m still right.”
They paid for her new boots and hat, and as they stepped back outside into the warm afternoon, Gabby couldn’t help but feel a little giddy. Glen’s excitement about getting her boots and a hat was infectious, and she felt more at home in his world with every passing moment.

After boot shopping, Glen and Gabby said their goodbyes to his sisters outside the store, Leslie pulling Gabby into a warm hug and Lauren promising they’d all meet up later in the evening. Glen opened the truck door for Gabby, helping her up into the seat before climbing in himself. The ride back to his house was filled with soft laughter and light conversation, both of them basking in the warmth of the morning they’d spent together.
As they stepped inside Glen’s house, Gabby immediately kicked off her new boots, sighing with relief as her feet hit the cool wooden floor. She held one boot in her hand, inspecting it with a mock glare.
“They’re cute, but they are not comfortable yet,” she said, shaking her head.
Glen chuckled, locking the door behind them and leaning casually against it. “You gotta break them in. A few more days, and you’ll forget you’re even wearing ‘em.”
Gabby flopped onto the couch with a groan, letting her boots drop to the floor. “Yeah, well, no one tells you that part when they’re convincing you to buy cowboy boots.”
“No one had to convince you,” Glen teased, crossing the room to stand behind the couch. “You were all in after trying on, like, three pairs. Admit it—you’re a city girl falling for the Texas charm.”
Gabby narrowed her eyes playfully and grabbed a throw pillow, tossing it over her shoulder at him. Glen caught it with ease, laughing as he rounded the couch and dropped onto the cushion next to her.
“I don’t hear you denying it,” he said, his smile tilting into a smirk.
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the faint blush on her cheeks. “Whatever. They’re still cute.”
“Let me see the damage,” Glen said as he reached forward and gently pulled one of her feet into his lap.
“Glen, you don’t have to—” Gabby started, sitting up straighter.
Glen paused, his brow furrowing slightly. “Gabby,” he said softly, his voice still light but tinged with a mix of confusion. “Why won’t you ever just let me take care of you?”
Her smile faltered, and she looked away, her fingers twisting nervously in her lap. Glen’s expression immediately shifted, and he held up his hands in surrender. “Hey, I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “I was just joking. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“You didn’t,” she said quietly, though the slight tremble in her voice told him otherwise. She took a deep breath, as if trying to steady herself. “It’s not you, Glen. It’s just... I’m not used to this.”
He leaned forward slightly, his voice gentle. “Not used to what?”
She hesitated, her gaze fixed on her hands as she fidgeted with her ring. “Having someone care for me like this. Do little things like this for me. Having someone want to take care of me.”
“I like taking care of you,” he said, flashing her a soft smile as he began to rub gentle circles into the arch of her foot.
She didn’t say anything but the way Gabby was looking down at her hands and avoiding eye contact told him something was going on in that beautiful head of hers.
“Gabby, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but... if there’s something on your mind, or something I should know, you can tell me. Anything.”
She let out a shaky laugh, still avoiding his eyes. “You say that now, but I don’t know if you’d want to hear it.”
“Try me,” he said softly, his voice steady but full of quiet encouragement. He reached out, brushing her hand gently. “I mean it, Gabby. Whatever it is, you don’t have to hold it in. Not with me.”
Her shoulders slumped slightly, and after a long pause, she finally spoke. “My last relationship... it wasn’t good. Not the kind of relationship you’d look back on fondly.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “He had this way of making me feel like I wasn’t enough. Like no matter what I did, it was never good enough for him. He never did stuff that showed he cared.”
Glen stayed quiet, giving her space to say what she needed. She drew in another shaky breath. “It wasn’t... outright abusive. Nothing you’d notice from the outside, anyway. But he controlled everything. Made me feel small. By the end, I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.” She finally glanced up at Glen, her eyes glistening. “That’s the main reason why I moved, and chose to go to school in L.A. I needed to get as far away from him as I could.” She paused for a moment and then added, “I’ve never told anyone. But it’s kind of ruined relationships for me.”
Glen’s jaw tightened, and his hand found hers, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a soothing motion. “Gabby,” he said softly, his voice steady but full of emotion. “I’m so sorry you went through that. And I hate that anyone ever made you feel that way.”
She gave him a small, shaky smile. “I told myself I wouldn’t do that again. I had sworn off relationships. It’s why I was a little hesitant at first when we met. But with you... it’s different. I feel safe with you.”
His chest tightened at her words, and he squeezed her hand gently. “You are safe with me. Always. And just so you know, you’re more than enough for me, Gabby. We can take this as slow as we need to. If it’s going too fast, tell me and we can put the brakes on.”
Her smile grew, a little stronger this time, and she reached out to brush her fingers against his arm. “Thank you, Glen.”
“Anytime,” he said softly, leaning back slightly. “Now, can I try rubbing your feet, or is that off the table?”
A small laugh escaped her, and she nodded. She then let herself finally relax, sinking into the cushions and letting Glen continue. His hands were warm and strong, his touch careful but soothing as he began to rub her aching feet.
“You’re too good to me,” she murmured, her eyes half-lidded as she watched him.
Glen glanced over at her, a small smile tugging at his lips. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
The tension in the room slowly melted away, replaced by a quiet warmth as they sat together. Gabby’s eyes grew heavy as Glen’s steady touch lulled her into a state of calm. Before she knew it, she’d drifted off, her head resting against the back of the couch.
Glen glanced down at her, a soft smile tugging at his lips. He reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face before leaning back and letting her rest.
While Gabby rested he took the time to respond to some texts and emails to pass the time, not wanting to get up and risk disturbing Gabby.
When the sun started to dip lower in the sky, he gently shook her shoulder. “Gabby,” he murmured, his voice soft. “Time to wake up, sweetheart. We’ve got to start getting ready.”
Her eyes fluttered open, and she gave him a sleepy smile. “Did I fall asleep?”
“Yeah,” he said with a chuckle. “Guess I’ve got the magic touch.”
She laughed softly, sitting up and stretching. He stood, offering her a hand. “Come on, let’s get moving. We’ve got a big night ahead.”
She took his hand, letting him pull her to her feet. For the first time in a long time, she felt lighter, like the weight she’d been carrying was finally starting to lift.
Glen had disappeared into his bedroom a few minutes earlier, mumbling something about getting ready, leaving her to gather herself. She wandered to the guest room where she’d stashed her things, pulling out the sundress she’d chosen for the night.
The fabric felt soft and light as she slipped it over her head, the floral pattern a cheerful contrast to her usual Los Angeles wardrobe of jeans and neutral tones. She smoothed the skirt and stepped into her nude wedges, pausing in front of the mirror to check her reflection. The dress hugged her in just the right places, and for the first time in a while, she felt... pretty.
Gathering her courage, she made her way down the hallway, the sound of Glen’s boots scuffing against the hardwood signaling he was already in the living room. When she stepped into the doorway, he was adjusting the cuffs of his light button-up shirt, the pale blue fabric rolled just above his forearms. Dark wash jeans and a pair of scuffed leather boots completed his look, casual but effortlessly put-together.
Glen glanced up as she entered, and for a moment, he froze. His hands dropped to his sides as his eyes traveled over her, taking in the sundress that swayed gently as she walked. A slow, genuine smile spread across his face, softening his features. “Wow,” he said, his voice low and warm. “You look... beautiful.”
Gabby felt a rush of heat bloom in her cheeks, and she ducked her head, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Thank you,” she said softly. “You clean up pretty well yourself.”
He chuckled, stepping closer until he was just a breath away. “Thanks, but you’re definitely stealing the show tonight.”
She glanced up at him, her eyes meeting his. There was something in his gaze—an openness, a sincerity—that made her chest tighten in the best way.
Glen broke the spell first, offering her his arm with a crooked grin. “Shall we?”
Gabby looped her arm through his, her smile matching his. “We shall.”
As they headed out the door, Gabby couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement for the night ahead. For once, she wasn’t thinking about how the evening might go wrong or what might happen if she let her guard down. For once, she felt like she could just... enjoy the moment.
And with Glen by her side, she had a feeling it was going to be a good one.
The soft glow of twinkling lights overhead created an intimate atmosphere at Botticelli’s, where laughter and the clink of glasses filled the air, blending with the hum of lively conversation. The restaurant was cozy yet upscale, with dark wood accents and flickering candles on each table, making the whole space feel warm and inviting. Gabby couldn’t help but smile at the ambiance as she sat beside Glen, who had his arm casually draped over the back of her chair. His sisters, Lauren and Leslie, were both full of energy, teasing Glen just like they had when they were kids.
“I still can’t believe you wore that much Axe cologne in high school,” Leslie said between bites of her pasta, her voice laced with affection and a hint of mischief. “You walked into every room smelling like a locker room after a football game.”
Lauren laughed, reaching for her glass of wine. “I mean, it was a bold choice, but I don’t know if smelling like a walking ad for middle school’ was the look he was going for.”
Glen rolled his eyes but smiled. “Hey, it worked for me in my mind back then,” he said, his tone mocking but playful. “I thought it was all about making an impression.”
Gabby laughed, imagining a teenage Glen in all his tall, slightly lanky awkwardness, covered in an overwhelming cloud of cologne. She could see the younger, more self-conscious version of him in her mind, but she was glad to see how far he’d come. His confidence now was entirely different—effortless, comfortable.
“I’m pretty sure you didn’t need the cologne at all,” Gabby said, giving him a teasing smile. “I remember my friends and I used to make fun of the guys that wore too much Axe.”
Leslie and Lauren burst out laughing, exchanging a look that made Gabby feel like she was in on an inside joke.
“That’s probably one of the many reasons why I was single a lot back then,” Glen joked, shaking his head with a smirk.
Gabby couldn’t help but grin at the easy banter between the siblings. There was something about their dynamic—playful, warm, and full of history—that made her feel like she was witnessing something special. Glen and his sisters shared an undeniable bond, teasing each other but with affection, a comfort that made Gabby feel a little more at ease despite the fact that she was still adjusting to being out in public with Glen.
As the food arrived, the server placed a plate of truffle risotto in front of her. Gabby took a bite, savoring the creamy texture and the rich, earthy flavor of the dish.
“This is so good,” she murmured, taking another forkful. “I could eat this every day.”
Glen, who was already halfway through his meal, grinned mischievously. “Is it?” Without missing a beat, he reached over and stole a bite of her risotto, causing Gabby to let out a startled laugh.
“Hey!” she exclaimed, laughing as she swatted at his hand. “That’s mine!”
Leslie and Lauren exchanged knowing glances, and Lauren raised an eyebrow. “Glen, stealing food from your girlfriend already? Someone’s a little smitten,” she teased, her voice light and playful.
Glen froze for a moment, then looked at Gabby with a mischievous smile. “What can I say? I just really like what she’s got on her plate.”
Leslie laughed, leaning back in her chair. “Uh-huh, I can see that. Definitely only interested in the food, right?”
Gabby felt her cheeks warm at the teasing, but Glen’s easy grin and the way he shrugged made her heart flutter in a way she hadn’t expected. He was right about the food—he liked the risotto, but it was her that he couldn’t resist. It felt sweet and innocent, and though the teasing made her nervous at first, she quickly realized it was all in good fun.
Glen turned his attention to his sisters, giving them both a pointed look. “You two really like to pick on me, don’t you?”
Leslie grinned, glancing at Lauren. “Well, someone has to keep you in check, and clearly, it’s not mom.”
Gabby couldn’t help but laugh at the way they all interacted, the easygoing nature of it all. She found herself feeling more and more comfortable, laughing along with their jokes. She felt like she was starting to belong, not just with Glen, but with his family, too.
As the conversation flowed between bites of food, Glen leaned over and whispered to her, a soft smile on his lips. “You okay?”
Gabby nodded, glancing over at him with a grateful smile. “Yeah. I’m really enjoying this. Your family is... great.”
He grinned, clearly pleased by her response, and squeezed her hand under the table. “I’m glad. You’re part of the family now.”
Leslie cleared her throat from across the table, pretending to look innocent. “Do I hear wedding bells?”
Glen just chuckled, shaking his head. “Alright, you’re really pushing it now.”
The teasing continued, but Gabby’s nerves had eased, and she found herself more and more drawn into the warmth of the evening, not just because of the food and the laughter, but because of the way Glen made her feel—like she was part of something good, something real.
* * * *
The Continental Club buzzed with life as soon as they entered, the air thick with excitement and the sound of clinking glasses, lively chatter, and the steady beat of a blues band setting up on stage. Gabby was struck by the electric atmosphere—the low hum of voices, the flashing neon lights, and the anticipation building as the crowd settled in for the night’s performance. It was a different energy than the cozy ambiance of Botticelli’s, but no less welcoming.
Glen’s hand rested lightly on her lower back as he guided her through the crowd, the warmth of his touch sending a small thrill through her. They moved effortlessly through the packed space, and as they reached the reserved table near the stage, he gestured for Gabby to sit.
“Get comfortable, sweetheart,” he said, his voice smooth as he leaned down to talk in her ear. “I’ll grab the first round.”
Gabby smiled, watching him walk toward the bar. She took a deep breath, looking around at the buzzing crowd and the lively vibe of the place. The club had an energy all its own, and she couldn’t help but feel a little more at ease with the noise and rhythm surrounding her.
Glen returned a few minutes later with both of their drinks. Before he could get too comfortable, a few heads turned in their direction. A group of fans, noticing Glen, immediately began to approach him. Gabby gave him a small, understanding smile as he caught her eye and gave her a reassuring smile before flashing his signature grin at the eager group.
Sitting back in the plush chair, Gabby took a slow sip from her drink, her eyes following Glen as he posed for pictures and signed a few autographs. She couldn’t help but admire the ease with which he interacted with his fans—there was a warmth and genuine kindness in the way he engaged with them.
“We’ll be back in a minute,” Leslie said, tugging Lauren along toward the restroom. Gabby was left alone at the table, the lively chatter of the club and the distant strum of a guitar accompanying her thoughts.
Gabby couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves as her attention moved back to Glen. This was a different side of Glen, a side of him that belonged to the public eye, and while she knew he was used to the attention, she couldn’t shake the slight feeling of being on the outside of it all.
Gabby was just about to take another sip of her drink when the stranger approached, a confident smile stretching across his face. He was tall, with a casual charm that seemed to draw people in.
“Hey there,” he said, leaning in just a little too close for comfort. “You’re looking great tonight. Mind if I join you?”
Gabby forced a smile, trying to maintain a polite distance. “I’m actually waiting for my friends to come back,” she replied, her voice steady, but the subtle tension in her shoulders betraying her discomfort.
The man, however, didn’t seem to take the hint. He leaned in a bit further, his hand resting on the back of her chair.
“I’m sure they won’t mind if I wait with you. It’s not every day I get to meet someone as beautiful as you.” His voice dropped a little, a touch too smooth, making Gabby’s skin crawl.
A slight wave of panic rushed through her. She opened her mouth to politely excuse herself, but before she could say another word, Glen’s voice cut through the low hum of the club, sharp and commanding.
“Hey, man, she’s with me,” Glen said firmly, stepping in between Gabby and the stranger with a presence that immediately made the man pull back.
Gabby’s heart skipped a beat as she saw Glen’s posture shift, protective and unyielding. His eyes narrowed slightly, an unspoken challenge to the stranger that didn’t need words.
The guy hesitated, clearly sensing the shift in the atmosphere. He shot one last look at Gabby, then muttered a quick, “Sorry, didn’t know,” before backing off.
Gabby let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding as Glen slid an arm protectively around her waist. She leaned into him slightly, the warmth of his touch calming her nerves.
“You okay?” Glen asked, his voice soft.
Gabby nodded, her voice shaking just a little as she managed a small smile. “Yeah… thanks.
He tightened his arm around her waist, his gaze steady and unflinching. “I’ll try not to leave you alone again. I’m so sorry.” There was a firmness in his words, a promise.
Gabby swallowed, her heart still racing. She hesitated, unwilling to meet Glen’s gaze. The muscles in Glen’s jaw tightened when he noticed Gabby avoiding eye contact. His expression hardening for a second before he softened, his thumb lightly brushing her hand as he held it.
He leaned in just a little closer, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’ve got you, Gabby. You’re safe, sweetheart.”
Her heart fluttered in her chest at his words. She finally looked up at him, her breath catching. For a moment, the noise of the club, the chatter, the music—it all faded away. It was just them, standing in the center of this new understanding. The sincerity in his eyes made her feel something deep in her chest, a warmth that she didn’t know she needed until now.
Gabby squeezed his hand, a small smile forming despite the lingering unease. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice steadying as she found her footing again.
Glen gave her a gentle smile, pulling her in just a little closer as the buzz of the club resumed around them. “Of course,” he said, his voice a low hum. “Now, how about we enjoy the rest of this night?”
As the night stretched on, the buzz of conversation and music grew louder, but so did the lighthearted atmosphere around their table. Gabby, now on her second drink, felt a warmth spreading through her, and the tension from earlier had melted away. Her laughter came easier now, a soft, carefree sound that seemed to fit perfectly with the upbeat rhythm of the band playing in the background.
Leslie leaned in, grinning as she swirled her drink. "Okay, Glen," she teased, eyeing her brother with a mischievous glint. "Tell me—how did you ever manage to be smooth enough to land a girl like her?"
Glen shot her an amused look but said nothing, content to watch Gabby. There was something about the way she was glowing tonight, how the stress seemed to melt off her shoulders with every passing minute. He wasn’t sure if it was the drinks, the music, or the atmosphere, but he was enjoying seeing this side of her—this lighthearted, easy-going Gabby who was just letting herself have fun.
Gabby, feeling bold with her drink in hand, grinned across the table. “Dance with me, Glen,” she teased, her eyes sparkling. “Come on, I know you’ve got moves.”
Glen raised an eyebrow and shook his head with a smile. “Not sure the internet’s ready for that,” he replied with a smirk, his voice dripping with playful sarcasm.
Gabby laughed, but her gaze drifted over to Leslie, who was already swaying to the music, her arms loose at her sides. “Come on, Les, let’s go dance!” Gabby said, and without missing a beat, the two of them stood up, joining the others on the floor.
Glen watched them for a moment, a slight chuckle escaping him. He liked seeing Gabby this way—effortlessly moving with the music, her body swaying in rhythm, her joy infectious. Leslie had always been the life of the party, but tonight, Gabby was catching up, and Glen was here for it.
As the song transitioned into a slower tune, Gabby’s eyes lit up. She looked back at Glen, who was watching them with an amused expression, and then made her way back to him.
“Alright, big guy,” she said with a playful grin. “It’s time. You’re dancing with me.”
He raised an eyebrow and smirked at her. “A slow song, huh? You sure you can handle it?”
Gabby tilted her head, a teasing glint in her eyes. “You worried you can’t handle me?”
“Oh I know I can handle you,” Glen grinned.
Gabby reached for his hand, tugging him up to his feet. Glen let her lead him toward the dance floor, keeping the space between them casual enough for any fans with phones nearby, but close enough that his hand rested lightly on her waist. Gabby wrapped one arm around his neck as they swayed to the music, the slow rhythm almost making the whole room fade away. Glen kept his grip firm, steadying her as she started to lean into him, her balance just a little wobbly from the drinks but never enough to fall.
"You okay?" he murmured, keeping his voice steady despite the warmth rising between them.
“I’m good,” Gabby replied softly, her gaze meeting his.
She looked so content, so at ease, and Glen couldn’t help but smile. He hadn’t realized just how much he enjoyed the feel of her in his arms—how natural it felt, even after just a few weeks of getting to know each other.
She grinned, her lips curving playfully as she leaned in a little closer. “You know,” she said, her voice dropping to a whisper, “you might be right. I think I’m a few drinks away from being trouble.”
Glen’s lips curled into a smirk. “I can handle trouble,” he replied, his voice teasing but warm.
Gabby laughed softly, and Glen was pretty sure he could listen to that sound all night.
Meanwhile, Leslie and Lauren watched from the edge of the dance floor. They exchanged knowing glances and quickly snapped a few pictures of the couple, laughing as they captured the moment. “They’re adorable,” Lauren said, sending one of the photos to Gabby’s phone with a quick text: You two are goals. Don’t let him get away. 😊
Back on the dance floor, Glen’s hand settled more comfortably at the small of Gabby’s back as they continued swaying in time to the music. Her arms were wrapped around him, her head resting gently on his shoulder for a moment. It was quiet, just the sound of the music and the soft murmur of the club, but it felt perfect in its simplicity. Gabby smiled against his chest, a contented sigh escaping her.
“I’m glad you’re here, Gabby,” Glen murmured into her hair, his voice quieter now, almost like a secret.
“Me too,” she replied softly, lifting her head to meet his gaze. “This is nice.”
The night had flown by, the bar’s lively energy still pulsing through Gabby’s veins as midnight rolled around. The chatter of the crowd had died down a little, and the music had shifted to a more relaxed tune. Gabby and Glen exchanged a look, both knowing it was time to call it a night.
“Ready?” Glen asked, his arm brushing lightly against hers as they stood to leave.
Gabby smiled, though her steps wobbled a bit as she adjusted her weight in her wedges. She felt the alcohol creeping into her limbs, making them lighter, looser, and a little more unsteady.
"Yeah, let’s go," she said, trying to make it sound as confident as she could, but her balance was betraying her.
Glen was quick to notice, his hand on her back steadying her as they made their way out of the bar. As they reached the door, Gabby stumbled a little, the cooler night air making her feel even more tipsy.
Before she could protest, Glen was scooping her up effortlessly into his arms. She gasped in surprise, laughing a little too loudly. “What—what are you doing? I can walk, Glen!”
“You can thank me later.” He teased, grinning as he started walking toward his truck.
Gabby didn’t argue, her laughter echoing in the quiet street as she snuggled into his chest, feeling the warmth of his body against her.
When they finally arrived back at his ranch, the world around Gabby felt both too big and too small at the same time. She leaned against Glen as they got out of the truck, taking in a deep breath of the cool night air. But as soon as they reached the sidewalk, she found herself stumbling once again, her feet unsure in her wedges.
“You okay?” Glen asked, reaching out to steady her.
“I’m fine,” Gabby insisted, though it was clear that she was anything but.
Before she could take another step, Glen had her in his arms again.
“Glen! I can walk!”
“Maybe I just like holding you,” he said with a soft laugh, carrying her the rest of the way to the door.
“Glen,” Gabby giggled, “I’m fine, really.”
He just smiled, not saying another word, as he gently set her down just inside the door. Gabby tried to kick off her shoes while still standing, but it wasn’t long before she wobbled and nearly toppled over.
“Whoa, careful there,” Glen chuckled, catching her just in time.
“Ugh, I’m so embarrassing,” she muttered, her voice full of amusement.
“No, you’re actually pretty cute right now,” Glen said with a smirk, guiding her over to the couch and helping her sit down. “I will say you weren’t wrong about being a handful though.”
Gabby gave him a mischievous look. “You knew what you were signing up for when you bought me those last couple drinks,” she teased, her eyes sparkling. She leaned back against the cushions, her feet still dangling in the air.
“I suppose I did,” Glen agreed with a grin, bending down to pull off her shoes for her, his hands gentle as he worked.
Once she was free of the wedges, Gabby pulled him toward her, her hands threading through his shirt as she pulled him into a kiss. Gabby’s lips lingered on his for a moment longer before she finally pulled away, her breath soft as she smiled up at him.
“You’re really something, you know that?” Glen whispered. “Alright, now let’s get you to bed.”
Glen helped Gabby to her feet and guided her down the hallway, keeping a steady arm around her waist despite her insistence that she was fine.
“You’re not fine, Gabby,” he said softly, his voice tender.
She grinned up at him. “I am,” she said. “But... okay, fine. Maybe I need your help.”
They made their way to the bedroom, where Glen helped her out of her dress and gave her one of his shirts to sleep in. She slid into bed with a satisfied sigh, curling up into the warmth of the blankets.
Gabby rested her head against his chest as she snuggled closer, her breath slowing as she relaxed into the comfort of his arms. “I haven’t let loose and had fun like this in a really long time. I haven’t felt this happy in a long time, Glen,” she murmured.
Hearing her words made something warm bloom in Glen’s chest. He smiled softly, kissing the top of her head. “I’m glad I can make you feel that way,” he whispered.
Gabby’s hand rested on his chest, her fingers idly tracing over his shirt. “You do,” she said softly, already drifting into sleep.
Glen held her close, his heart full as he watched her fall asleep.

*slams my head on the sink* 100 questions for aidlyn.
I'm dead serious btw. This is long
1. Who fell first? Who fell harder?
Aiden fell first and Ash fell harder. But they are both horrendously down bad for each other 🫠
2. Who is the one who fusses the most? Does their partner mind very much?
They're both kinda fussy in different ways, but Aiden is the one getting hurt more often so Ash is fussing the most. Not that Aiden minds he eats that shit up.
3. What is their love language?
I think I mentioned Ash's is quality time and for Aiden it's physical touch :>
4. Has either ever gotten a hickey off the other? What was their reaction?
I've gotten a hickey from somebody biting me (IN A PLAYFUL WAY get your minds outta the gutter 🤡) so I feel like Ash would get one in the same way?? Like. Aiden just bit her cheek or smth. Cuz he's bitey. And it left a mark. She was really pissed about it 😭 like "Ow wtf man-!"
5. What is something they like to do together?
Oh, they're not picky...Aiden likes doing everything with Ash so he lets her pick. Ash likes doing something calm because she likes seeing him more low energy and relaxed like binging a show or doing a puzzle. If he leans on her she's done. She gone fr.
6. Who would ask the "would you love me if I were a worm?" question? How would the other answer?
Aiden would but just for fun and to not repeat myself lets imagine Ash asking 🤡 lowkey would be embarrassed and ask in the tiniest voice ever. Aiden ofc think this is adorable and tells her in great detail how he would get her a huge terrarium with the finest dirt and lots of food and Ash is just staring at him wondering why he put so much thought into it.
7. Who likes forehead kisses? Who likes hand kisses? Who likes neck kisses?
Forehead: Both :) Aiden likes her reaction and Ash kinda implodes whenever Aiden pushes her bangs back to give her a lil forehead smooch
Hands: Ashlyn, somehow it's easier than kissing him on the face or mouth but still conveys the intimacy she feels
Neck: probably Aiden, but it tickles Ash way too much for them to do it properly. He surprised kissed her nape once and she freaked out, so she threw her head back and broke his nose 🤡
8. Who is the big spoon? Little spoon?
Neither I STAND BY THIS. They sleep facing each other let me have this.
9. If there wasnt enough seats, how would they sit? One on the other's lap? One on the armrest? One on the floor in front of them?
Aiden steals the seat, makes a joke about how Ash can sit on his lap, Ash says she would literally rather sit on the floor, Aiden gives up the seat all pouty, then his restless ass spends the rest of the time finding a comfy spot before sitting on the armrest.
10. Who plays with whose hair?
Aiden 1000000% because he's obsessed with it. In the beginning Ash would pinch him whenever he did it, but after he started braiding her hair it didn't bother her as much. Likes fiddling with the tips or whipping the braid around like some weird ass stim toy lol 🤡
11. Who is clingy?
I think they both are in different ways...Aiden more tho, and he's more obvious about it 💀
12. What is something the other does that makes them flustered?
They're both idiots so they get flustered whenever they're soft with each other 🫠 for Ash, the aforementioned forehead kiss + Aiden praising her, and for Aiden it's whenever Ash touches his face really softly or initiates snuggling.
13. What is something they find attractive about each other?
Guessing this means physically?
Aiden: Her freckles. Or her hair. Or her eyes. Don't make him pick 🤡
Ashlyn: she's hard pressed to admit it but she does like his face- also likes his hands and looking at the scars.
14. What is something they argue about constantly? Is it a deep-seated issue or something small?
Aiden isn't big on fighting in gen, he doesn't have the motivation for it. Ash usually just scolds him for his piss poor self preservation skills and he'll sulk about it. Not above picking a fight about smth stupid if it gets her attention tho
15. How do they comfort one another when the other is upset?
Depends what is bothering them. Aiden usually goes for a hug if she allows it and tries to talk to her. Aiden usually prefers being alone if he feels like he's gonna get upset so it's a little hard for Ashlyn to help him, but normally tries to reassure him that she's not leaving, or holds his hands or face to help ground him. She's a very logical person so she tries to think of ways to solve a person's problem if they're upset, but most of aidens problems are internal/emotional.
16. Who is the better caretaker? Does their partner like being taken care of?
Aiden is better with physical injuries because...he's had them all before multiple times and he knows what to do haha. Ash appreciates the help but I wouldn't say she enjoys it. Ash is better with illnesses, which is great because Aiden acts like he's literally dying whenever he gets a cold (forcing him to spend all day In bed?? Just give him a death sentence while you're at it), so yeah he's a little baby that likes being taken care of.
17. Who steals whose clothes? Does their partner mind?
Most of Ash's clothes don't really fit Aiden...Ash steals his jackets/hoodies on accident because Aiden will give them to her (she gets cold easy) and she forgets to give them back (she's also a little weird about it and sleeps with them). He lowkey gets kinda smug when he sees her wearing them lol
18. They've had a major blowout. How do they handle it?
Like...the care tire blew out? Ash would probably change it (her parents taught her) and while she's at it she'd show Aiden how to do it too (he's never learned)
19. How good are they are communication?
.... C+ Probably rely on the gang a little too much to solve their issues. They're working on it, alr?
20. Who handles the spiders? Who screams directions in the background?
Neither of them are afraid of bugs BUT Ash does not like insects partly because she doesn't know how they'll react to smth. Logically tho she knows spiders are useful so she asks Aiden to get a cup and throw them outside.
21. Who typically tends to initiate intimacy first (this can be a conversation, action or anything)?
Depends on the kind, Aiden definitely seeks out Ash's attention more often (like asking her if she wanted to do the puzzle), but he's a little nervous about physical affection, so in the beginning of the relationship that was Ash. Now that he knows it's usually okay he is more touchy, but now Ash looks for his company more often so she will start conversations.
22. What is something - either character - doesn't like about the other?
Ashlyn: above all, his own self apathy. She is...really not cool with him hurting himself all the time. She also thinks he's way too impulsive and irresponsible sometimes
Aiden: don't ask him! But sometimes he thinks she's very...cold. and it hurts his feelings.
23. Who said "I love you" first?
Aiden, they were already together so he thought he should let her know :P
24. Who kissed who first?
Ash told him she wanted to first and he initiated it (since Ash didnt know what to do)
25. Do they have any pet names for one another?
Ash doesn't really like them, she feels stupid saying them 🤡 the closest is Mr. Durable if he's being an idiot. All her "idiot, dumbass, stupid" are affectionate. Aiden has like a lot of batshit crazy weird pet names for her that Ash doesn't understand at all. Partially to annoy her.
26. Who gets jealous most often? How does the other deal with that?
Pffffff. Aiden definitely. Ash usually doesn't really notice ("he's acting weird...well, he's always weird") unless somebody points it out. She's very pragmatic about it, she just bluntly tells him he's being stupid and that she's not interested in anybody else.
27. Who tends to drive on long journeys? Who navigates?
Ash is designated driver because Aiden is an absolute maniac on the road (even tho he says he's a fine driver) and they have a GPS because Aiden gets to distracted to navigate 💀
28. Do they trust one another? Are comfortable discussing their fears with one another?
I think in canon, and even in this theoretical relationship, they're a bit away from being totally open with each other. But they do trust each other.
29. What's an insecurity they hold about their relationship?
Aiden's BPD, even after everything, will flare up and he thinks Ash will leave him, especially cuz he's so "annoying and pushy", etc etc. This kinda bleeds into Ash's issue, which is the fact that she's putting so much into this relationship and she still feels like Aiden doesn't really trust her.
30. Describe how one would cheer the other up after a hard day.
Ashlyn: she says Aiden is like a kid, because to cheer him up she just has to hold him. A long cuddle session is in order, and some kisses for good measure :> Then she'll offer to go out tomorrow to do smth fun.
Aiden: she's probably overstimulted and exhausted, so he basically preps her/their room so she can relax to the fullest and does all the chores so she won't need to do anything. Orders takeout/goes to the drive-through so she doesn't need to socialize.
31. How would they describe one another?
Ashlyn: weirdo adrenaline junkie who doesn't know when to quit...and an idiot. He's still HER idiot tho.
Aiden: his guardian angel, bless her, because he must give her a heart attack per day at least.
32. Can they communicate private thoughts whilst in company? If so, how?
Not really haha. They're both difficult people to read, and they're not exceptions to each other.
33. Which one of them gives "that look" when they other is acting like a fool?
...Come on 🤡 You guys know. You know it's Ash.
34. How do they address a problem in their relationship?
...they'll probably ignore it for a while 💀 When somebody brings it up it'll be Ash. She is genuinely very invested in the relationship so like, she doesn't want it to blow up in her face haha, so she will look on the internet for a solution (or ask Taylor)
35. How does each significant other view any exes and former relationships?
Ash doesn't have any exes which is great because Aiden would probably be jealous of that too 🫠 Aiden doesn't have any like, real proper exes either. I guess she would be a little curious about his past relationships tho, just because he doesn't talk about them.
36. What is something that would break their hearts?
For Aiden, if she couldnt take him anymore...and for Ash, it kinda breaks her heart everyday that Aiden still thinks she'd leave him behind :")
37. Who is more likely to avenge their S/O if they were hurt or killed?
More likely??? I mean lowkey Aiden but they would both try- don't underestimate Ash's anger lol
38. What would be their ideal evening in?
I feel like they would binge watch a reality TV dance competition show or smth along those lines. Order a bunch of junk food, top it off with ice cream...Ash would probably fall asleep on him at like 1am and Aiden would fall asleep a little bit later because he sleeps easier with her next to him :)
39. Do they dance? If so, who's better?
They both dance!!! Ash is, ofc, an excellent ballerina and she knows some ballroom dancing. Aiden is better at freestyle and stuff like that, but Ash is better on a technical level.
40. What is a song that reminds you of the relationship?
Bro I suck at picking songs 😭 LOWKEY LOWKEY Acting My Age by The Academics 😭 Or No Time To Explain??? By Good Kid?? GODDDD I SUCK AT THIS SO HARD- Vampire Empire, Big Thief?? I'm gonna cry 😭
41. Who sings to the other? Are they any good?
Aiden tries to serenade Ash all the time lmao 🤡 he's not a really good singer or anything, but he's not terrible...
42. Who teases who? What about?
Aiden teases her more, but she'll drag him if it's necessary. He definitely type of guy to say "Omg you had a crush on me?? That's so embarrassing" when they've been dating for 6 months...
43. Who gets up early? Who stays in bed late?
Aiden can't sleep, so he gets up really early. Ash actually likes sleeping so if she can she's gonna sleep in 😭
44. Who's more likely to bring the other coffee or breakfast in bed?
One of the things Aiden can do in the kitchen is use the coffee machine!!! So he will bring her coffee in bed! No breakfast because...he doesn't know how to make breakfast... and he doesn't wanna cause her trouble by burning the pan or smth stupid like that 😭
45. What's the worst thing the other can say to one?
Ash: for him to leave her alone and to not talk to her again.
Aiden: telling her to leave like everybody else does in his life (he pushes people away)
They actually make me mentally ill /pos
46. If they were ever in a life or death situation, who risks their life?
HA. They both do, no questions asked.
47. If it ever came down to it, who is turning to the darkside to save the other?
Mm. I think they would both do it, but Aidens morals are pretty loose when it comes to Ash lol. If you asked him to kill somebody to protect her he wouldn't feel that bad about it.
48. If they ever had less that 5 mins to tell their partner something before never seeing them again, what would they say?
Ash: To not be scared, because she wants him to know she's going to do whatever she can to find him again.
Aiden: absolute mess, telling her how much he loves her and that she made his life so much better and worth living (Aiden, buddy-)
49. Is there a word or gesture that makes either of them melt?
Ashlyn: I'm serious, the forehead kiss, she literally stops functioning 😭
Aiden: When she looks him in the eyes, he knows she doesn't like that very much so he feels really special. Bonus points if she's holding his hands or cheeks.
50. Who's the romantic?
Aww, definitely Aiden. He's so silly about it all. Doodling their initials together, daydreaming about her, getting her gifts.
51. Are there any characters who ship them?
Taylor and Logan lowkey.
52. Who cooks? Who does the dishes?
Ash definitely cooks, Aiden can barely make Ramen. Aiden usually does the dishes to be fair between them, but Ash needs to supervise because he's prone to leaving grease or not cleaning the utensils properly (he wants to finish quickly)
53. Who eats healthier? Who's got the sweet-tooth?
Aiden is like a human garbage disposal, he eats the worse trash food humanely possible (and somehow is still not sick); his diet is basically fast food joints, convenience store snacks, and soda 💀 So Ash eats healthier... BUT Ash is the one with a sweet tooth. She really likes stuff like cookies, cakes, and chocolate. Aiden prefers salty and savory snacks (tho he does like candy, ex. gummy worms or lollipops, stuff like that)
54. What's something that they don't really care for but tolerate because the other has an interest?
Ashlyn: Video games. In general she finds them kinda stressful and loud, but she watches him play for fun (especially horror games)
Aiden: ballet shows. He ADORES watching her dance but like if she's not on stage he's not gonna be into it...
55. Who spoils who? Does their partner tolerate it? Do they secretly enjoy it?
Aiden absolutely spoils Ash, he has cash to burn, so why not on things she wants? :) lowkey Ash finds this a little weird, especially if he gets something really expensive (like this espresso machine he got her one Christmas) but she doesn't really have the heart to complain besides a "You don't need to spend so much on me..."
56. Who tends to be the level-headed one? Who is feral?
Ha 💀 Ash genuinely does her best to be level-headed...but deep down they're both feral.
57. Who reminds the other to wear a coat when it's cold out?
Ash. Aiden is one of those guys who goes out into snow In like jeans and a t-shirt to buy ice cream, so she crams him into a jacket...he lets her, cuz she zips it up for him and he gets a little goofy over that.
58. Do they hold hands?
..yeah :)
59. Is there a spot they tend to kiss or caress habitually?
Aiden brushes her hair back, so he touches the area around her temple/back of her ear a lot. Also kisses the palm of her hand whenever she holds his face. Ash kisses his cheek a lot, near the corner of his mouth.
60. Are they willing to show PDA? If not, is there a reason?
Well, Aiden doesn't really have a problem with it, but Ash is a little reluctant because it tends to draw unnecessary attention to herself and she does not like. Being perceived.
61. How would they describe their S/O in one word?
Ashlyn: "...interesting" (on a generous day, otherwise shes gonna say idiot 🤡)
Aiden: "incredible!!!"
62. How would outside characters describe their relationship?
Tyler calls it "barely functioning" which annoys Aiden to no end. Taylor thinks it's sweet how dedicated Aiden is to Ash...even though she's a little worried about him. In general everybody is kinda...pleasantly surprised the relationship hasn't exploded yet.
63. How would they describe one another while sleeping in the same bed?
Aiden normally kicks while sleeping so the first time Ash woke up with her shins really sore and bruised 🤡👍🏽 She's also not a fan of him snoring lmao. Aiden thinks she's a blanket hogger but, well, he won't complain about that. She also tends to curl up into a ball which he finds cute.
64. Would they ever answer the above question if it was asked to their face? How would they react?
Maybe when they were older and already living together, otherwise she needs to explain why they fell asleep on the same bed at the same time...lol
She'd be a little embarrassed that he finds her cute when she's sleeping haha. Aiden on the other hand would feel terrible about the kicking thing, AND the snoring (since she doesn't sleep with her earbuds in) 😭
65. Who tends to take the lead with intimacy?
Well, for kissing, Aiden tends to initiate it more, because he has a better idea of what you're supposed to do. But Ash sets the pace, if she doesn't want to do smth or stop, she tells him.
66. Have they ever been caught kissing? What would be their reaction if they were?
I dont think a peck is embarrassing...I guess this is like an open mouth kiss, but if they were doing that, I feel like they would only do it at Aidens house whenever it was empty because Ash is kind of paranoid about that stuff. If she got caught she would like. Die. Girl would be redder than her hair 🤡 Aiden would be a lil bit flustered depending on who caught them, but mostly annoyed at being interrupted.
67. Have they ever kissed anywhere questionable?
....In the phantom dimension lowkey
68. Who is more vocal? Who is the better kisser?
Aiden is just a loud person in general. He sighs a lot (he's lovesick fr), and sometimes he starts mumbling about how pretty she is and how in love he is with her.
They're both pretty bad kissers lol 🫠 Aiden loses his breath very quickly and Ash is super stiff.
69. If they were to go shopping, who holds the bags? Who decides where they go?
Ash doesn't really like shopping...? Lowkey stressful and she doesn't like getting new things. Aiden goes shopping because he has the money for it (he likes buying clothes) but he wouldn't make Ash carry his own bags lol
70. If they went out to dinner, who is paying? Would there even be a discussion?
Aiden. Ash usually tries to pay for herself but Aiden is pretty insistent about it, and he's SO rich that she has a hard time feeling bad about it.
71. If someone were to insult their partner, how would the other handle it?
Ashlyn: would snap back with something equally rude, but she's not super worried about Aiden, he has a thick skin and she knows that.
Aiden: will kill them with his bare hands. If Ash lets him.
72. If someone flirted with or showed an interest in their partner, how would the other react?
Ashlyn: probably surprised, she forgets not everybody knows about his massive baggage lmao. Teeniest tiniest bit jealous...
Aiden: absolutely the type of guy to swoop in, put his arm around her, and call her babe in front of the person. Will probably pull her away from the situation and then death glare at the person from over his shoulder :>
73. Who knows the other better? Why is this?
I think they both know each other pretty well, but Aiden knows all this useless trivia about Ash because he's obsessed with her /hj
74. Who's more likely to bail who out of jail? Would they give the other one shit for it?
Ash absolutely 💀 (it's with his own money too). She definitely gets on his ass for getting arrested over smth stupid like vandalism or "being a public disturbance" (and when he's older for stuff like driving under the influence or smth)
75. Which - if any - other famous ship's vibes do they emulate?
Man idk any famous ships :0 Like, what, an unhinged guy x girl clinging so hard onto those hinges? Guys let me know if you know any!
76. Are they soulmates? Do they believe in that?
I dont think they believe in spiritual stuff like that haha. They just know they love each other ^_^
77. What is something they would never forgive the other one for doing/saying?
Hhhhhh there's definitely a timeline where Aiden kills a person for Ash and I don't think she would ever really get over that, even if she still stayed with him. For Aiden...is hard, because it would be stuff that's not in character for her...maybe if he wasn't getting better and she left him. He would feel betrayed that she "abandoned" him when he was at his weakest. But even then...idk if she apologize for it I think maybe he would take her back...idk idk, they're complicated 🤣
78. Who has memorised the other's medical history?
...Aiden
79. Also, are they each other's first contact in an accident?
Technically its their parents but they would call each other right away, and when they're older Aiden would definitely change it to Ash. Doesn't help that they tend to get into accidents together tho 😭
80. What tropes could be applied to this relationship?
Grumpy x Sunshine, A Couple with Emotional Wounds, Battle Couple, Cannot Spit it Out (because fuck me that's why), Devoted to You (Aiden to Ash), Fire-Forged Friends...I'm this close to putting Heroes Want Redheads but...I'll control myself-
81. Did they have a meet cute? Or was it a train wreck?
More like a bus wreck, she literally ran away from him 💀
82. Make their relationship into a list of A03 tags.
Hm...Idiots in Love, Biting, Mutual Pining, Obsessive Behavior, Complicated Relationships, Blood, Hurt/Comfort, Bruises.
(All of this list is fluffy shit so let me think about the darkness for a second)
83. Who gets frustrated more easily? How does the other calm them down?
Ashlyn lowkey, she gets irritated when she feels like she's not being understood or smth isn't going to plan. Most of the time Aiden will try and talk to her, which has a 50/50 chance of working lol
84. Have they ever almost lost one another? How does it effect their relationship?
LMAO yeah 😭 they HAVE lost each other and they both blame themselves hard for it, it makes Aiden even clingier and more overprotective than he normally would be, and Ash is hard on herself because she feels like she can't protect him when it's her job.
85. Their partner is tipsy. How do they handle it?
Ash: semi-regular thing she deals with as an adult. He is usually a reckless drunk person so she tends to redirect his attention towards herself (so he will shift into flirty drunk mode lol) and hopes he'll fall asleep soon :p
Aiden: he'd get upset because Ash would never willingly drink enough to get tipsy- lowkey his first thought is that somebody drugged her 🤡 (Ash probably just didn't notice her own limits) she's a pretty quiet drunk tho so she won't cause him too much trouble. She's also more affectionate which he guiltily enjoys
86. Who gives the best gifts? Who gives the more thoughtful? Who goes for expensive?
Okay, so...like...it's not like Aiden goes for expensive gifts just cuz they're expensive, it's just like. Sometimes he just so happens to get something that is expensive for her! And he knows her pretty well, so he knows what she likes. Ash is always kinda nervous about gift shopping because she feels a little...apprehensive about buying people stuff...but she's not bad at it, it just takes her a while.
87. If they ever lost one another in a public place, how do they find the other?
Ashlyn: She just calls him on her phone lol, if she doesn't have it on her she will just walk around looking for him because...he's kind of hard to miss-
Aiden: Definitely starts yelling her name really loudly and bothering all the other people in the area asking if theyve seen her💀
88. What's the darkest secret they have ever told one another?
I feel like for Aiden it would be telling her about his past and stuff :p Ash doesn't exactly have a dark past or anything, I think at that point it would just be saying some dark thoughts she's had.
89. Would they ever consider marriage?
They don't really have strong feelings about it, Ash just asked him for the tax benefits.
90. Would they ever consider starting a family?
...I think Aiden is more into that idea than Ash is.
91. Who likes kids more? Who can't stand them?
Man okay neither of them dislike kids- Ash is just awkward around them and doesnt know how to take care of them 😭 Aiden has a lot of fun playing with kids but he's not exactly a responsible babysitter either lol.
92. There's a puddle in one's way. What does their partner do?
Ashlyn: ...??? Lmao she's not gonna do anything, maybe try and jump over if they really can't go around it 😭
Aiden: he's gonna jump in the puddle. It's for his enrichment. If Ash doesn't wanna get wet tho, he'll probably try and pick her up and put her on the other side lol
93. One has hurt their leg on a hike. How does their partner carry them?
Aiden is stubborn about that stuff and he's hurt his leg A LOT so he's only gonna lean on her for support. If Ash hurt her leg he'd carry her on his back.
94. Their pet has caused destruction. Who puts the pet in jail? Who defends the pet?
Ash is the disciplinarian, she's putting the dog in pet jail 😭 Aiden is probably going with the dog, he definitely contributed to the disaster...
95. Who gives flowers to their partner? What sort of flowers do they like?
Idk I feel like they're not big on flowers. Ash doesn't want smth that's gonna die in a few weeks- I feel like the only time they'd give each other flowers is if they were chilling in a meadow or smth. I think Aiden puts daisies in her braids.
96. Who reads the newspaper? Who wants to see the cartoons?
Aiden isn't big on reading- Not that Ash is either, but she'll skim the paper and give Aiden the funny strips.
97. How do they wake their partner up? Is it difficult to rouse them?
Aiden is a very light sleeper, so she just needs to call for him or touch him to wake him up. Ash is like....mid level, so Aiden will do annoying stuff to wake her up, like touching her foot with his (it's cold as balls), or tickling her nose with her blanket. 20% he'll start singing too.
98. Who would burn the world down for who?
It's easy to say Aiden, but I think they both would :>
99. Who gives off "they said no pickles" energy?
I guess this is an unpopular opinion but like i just don't think Ash would care enough to go to the register, even if they got his order wrong 😭 So imo Aiden-
100. Make a meme of this ship.
Another one...? Alr
If you made it here... *gives you a cookie* :)

30 Days of G/t Self Care
I'm not fully sure where this idea came from, but here we go! I do enjoy a fun little daily challenge, and like most things my mind went to “but how can I make it G/t?” And here we are! Just in time for the new year, a 30 day self care challenge but… sizey. I wanted to make an actual calendar thing, just in time for the new year (though it can be started at any time, it's not specific to January). Check the days off, spread them out over a longer time, pick out just the ones that speak to you, whatever you want to do 😊 Here's the guide to go with it.
Day 1. Set aside a few minutes to take some deep breaths and focus on the present moment. To help ground yourself, perhaps wrap yourself in a blanket and imagine you are in a large, lovingly grasping hand, or hold a small item and imagine it's a tiny friend.
Day 2. Revisit some nostalgic G/t media. What first got you into this? Let yourself reminisce and remember why you love this in the first place.
Day 3. Make G/t art. It can be anything! Drawing, writing, crochet, pottery, you name it. No need to hold yourself to a certain standard or show anyone else, just take some time to be creative. Even if you don't deem yourself an artist, give it a shot and see if you enjoy it!
Day 4. Relax with a word search puzzle. I made a G/t themed one for you right here!
Day 5. Try out this journal prompt. If you could be tiny/big at will, what types of things would you do to relax? How might you extrapolate from this and apply it to your real life?
Day 6. Stretch your body today. What imaginary setting could you give yourself to make it G/t? Are you surrounded by gigantic furniture in your mind’s eye? Perhaps the yoga video on your phone helps you pretend you have a tiny instructor?
Day 7. Listen to some G/t music. This could be anything, from sizey music videos to songs with sizey lyrics to the Arietty soundtrack.
Day 8. Practice gratitude by listing out all the little things you're thankful for. (See what I did there?) Add some big things to the list for good measure.
Day 9. Practice stepping out of your comfort zone a little bit by talking about G/t, out loud if you’re able. Whether it's discussing with a friend (you brave soul), recording yourself on your phone (you can immediately delete it), or just mumbling to yourself in the shower. Maybe you’ll realize you want to make a G/t podcast and we all win!
Day 10. Here's a little creative prompt. Arrange everyday items to make a G/t scene (use toys, miniatures, or even fashion a tiny person out of paperclips or paper). Take a picture, share it if you like!
Day 11. Create a cozier space today to enjoy your G/t content. Grab some blankets, make yourself a snack or some tea, light some candles, whatever sounds nice to you. Sometimes it's making a mundane moment special!
Day 12. Make yourself something healthy to eat. While you prepare it, imagine how different the task might be to carry out if you were very big or very small. Maybe even have some fun making your snack in miniature too.
Day 13. Try out some affirmations today and see if you can make them both sizey and relevant to your life. Ideas of mantras could be “I am allowed to take up space,” “I choose to appreciate the little things today,” “I will achieve great things through small steps.”
Day 14. Go out into nature for some fresh air. Lean in close and pay attention to the small details, perhaps imagining a shrunken version of yourself or a small friend exploring.
Day 15. Challenge yourself to learn a new skill today to bring your Gt ideas to life. Maybe it's learning how to code, or making your own VR avatar, or learning a new art tool or technique. It's finally time to watch that tutorial you've been saving!
Day 16. Pull out your dream journal, or start up a new one! Maybe we’ll figure out the whole lucid dreaming thing and come close to experiencing Gt, wouldn't that be the dream~ If this doesn't resonate with you, maybe start a journal to jot down your Gt daydreams instead!
Day 17. Relax with a crossword puzzle. I made a G/t themed one for you right here!
Day 18. Try to cross a few to dos off your to do list someday. Make it more fun by adding in some joke tasks in there, like “leave out a snack for the fairies” or “prep for borrowing trip tonight” or “meet with giant friend for coffee.” Maybe even schedule some real life Gt tasks - such as “work on chapter 2 of (Gt story you're writing)” or “plan a VRC hangout”.
Day 19. It's time to dress the part! Is there any way you can dress up or accessorize yourself in a sizey way? Maybe you have an oversized hoodie, or a necklace of a tiny Eiffel tower, or an old shirt with Tinkerbell on it. Did you know you can actually buy Arietty’s giant hair clip thing? Or if this better scratches your creative itch, maybe your objective is to make tiny accessories for a toy or figurine.
Day 20. Take some time to rest. Just allow yourself to lay down in a quiet, cozy setting for at least a few minutes and have some dedicated G/t daydreaming.
Day 21. Try out a new exercise routine and use your G/t imaginings to make it more fun. Watching a new workout video? You’re a giant visiting the gym and that's your human instructor on the screen. Spontaneous dance session in your room? You're a fairy frolicking in a field of enormous wildflowers. Going for a swim? You're actually crossing a vast ocean, or maybe a small glass of water.
Day 22. Check out a new G/t story. Not a big reader normally? Just give it a shot!
Day 23. Give yourself a pamper night, whatever that means for you - face masks, cucumber water, a warm drink, candles, the works. Pamper night (face masks and stuff)
Day 24. Make or buy something for your G/t interests (miniatures or toys, “max”iature like a giant flower pillow, fairy-themed stationary, make a giant paper mache strawberry, etc)
Day 25. Relax with a coloring page. You can use any of your favorite artist’s lineart (just make sure to get permission and/or proper attribution if you want to post it). Here's an example option from me.
Day 26. Make a list of all the things you love about G/t. It's always nice to remember the various ways this interest might benefit our lives.
Day 27. Motivate yourself to try out a new hobby by making it G/t. Take that pottery class you've been meaning to take and make a giant acorn-shaped mug. Get into cosplay so you can dress up as a borrower. Dabble with watercolors and you may end up becoming a G/t artist. Study a new language and enjoy new sizey media you couldn't understand before. Whatever speaks to you!
Day 28. Do a favor for your future self and make a self care kit for when you're having a hard time. This could include a journal or affirmation cards, or perhaps some grounding items like fidget toys, stress balls and mints. Add a little something G/t in there too. Perhaps some kind of miniature with an interesting texture, or a fidget toy in the shape of a person, or a stuffed animal of a giant ladybug to hug.
Day 29. An act of kindness can do wonders for our mental health. Send someone in the G/t community a kind comment today, whether it's a long-time friend, someone you just met in a Discord group, or a comment to your favorite G/t artist.
Day 30. Reflect on all the activities you’ve tried during this self care challenge and journal about it. What have you learned about yourself? What might you incorporate more into your self care routines going forward? Pat yourself on the back for investing some time and attention into yourself - you deserve it!

Baggage Chapter List
*****
With no money in the bank or dignity to uphold his principles, Jungkook's response to a threat was always flight. He'd long understood that a peasant like him had no chance of fighting. However, the possibility of you and Soobin getting hurt because of his cowardice sparked something inside him.
Jungkook didn't know how, but he resolutely grabbed Lee Sung's knife with his bare hand, ignoring his trembling hand and his mind telling him to run.
"Now, now, Lee Sung-ah ~" Jungkook's body twisted until he faced the loan shark. His demeanor showed how he stubbornly refused to bend in the face of intimidation. It made Lee Sung's lips curve upwards.
"Not crying for mercy, Jungkook-ah?" A mocking laugh. Lee Sung watched as fresh blood trickled down Jungkook's hand. Jungkook didn't let go of the knife and even gripped its blade more forcefully. "Did hanging out with the feisty professor make you feel invincible?"
The mention of you was enough for Jungkook to lose his playful smirk, bare his teeth at Lee Sung, and snarl. One would think he was a helpless prey (and Jungkook guessed there was some truth to that), but the case changed when his enemies dared to involve you. Besides, Lee Sung had met Jungkook when he had nothing with him. Lee Sung never knew how Jungkook's mind worked and how he dealt with things when no Park Jimin was keeping him in check.
"Easy there, Lee Sung-ah~" Mirth crinkled in Jungkook's eyes. "Our game is for us alone, remember?"
How could Lee Sung not read the real meaning in Jungkook's voice wrapped in an almost syrupy charm? It was a threat, but Lee Sung couldn't help but chuckle. 'Jang Min-ssi,' Lee Sung whispered inwardly as his eyes darted to Jang Min standing meters away from them. "I understand now why you want to involve the professor in this game.'
"I'm so glad you mentioned our little game." Lee Sung blinked his gaze back to Jungkook. He forcefully retracted the knife, leaving a nasty straight cut in Jungkook's palm. Jungkook's face became unreadable, though. He couldn't feel pain—he only felt his heart chastising him to fight for you and his son.
"Because we want you back in our chess game, Jungkook-ah." Lee Sung's smirk grew big. "Jang Min-ssi said he needs you to play the king again."
Jungkook's eyes darkened. Meanwhile, a dangerous smile tugged at Lee Sung's lips as he raised his hand in the air, a small vial gripping his fist.
⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆
You got home at around midnight. You weren’t in the mood to do anything anymore, but the guilt you nursed was becoming too much to bear.
"Mama will help you change your clothes, oki?" You picked up a pajama set from your son's drawer and helped him dress up. You usually soaked Soobin into a warm bath before going to bed. Unfortunately, you weren’t up for it tonight.
'I'm a bad mom,' your mind supplied unhelpfully. You felt as though you didn't deserve Soobin. You thought you had slowly forgotten how to care for your son as Jungkook did it on your behalf.
Months of playing house with your bastard of best friend lifted half of your burden, but now that Jungkook wasn't around, you were starting to feel helpless.
Just where is that bastard?
Your eyes flicked to the wall clock. This was the first time Jungkook was home late. He didn't even tell you where he was going; he left early in the morning and excused himself for today's office work.
There was no point in stopping Jungkook. Admittedly, you were tiptoeing around him as you didn't want to pressure him into accepting the offer to work with you.
Tonight was the night Jungkook was meant to give his answer. However, You supposed that even a meticulous person like you sometimes went through some lapses.
"You've got your dates mixed up, Mam." Lee Sung told you earlier this day. You went ahead to the office even without Jungkook. You went there with your son, though. You hoped Lee Sung could babysit Soobin while you went to dinner with Jungkook later.
Although you had reservations about Lee Sung, you couldn't deny that he was still a good babysitter, and Soobin seemed to like him. Your son never fussed and would sleep calmly in Lee Sung's arms.
It had been weeks since Lee Sung landed in Korea, but you refused to contact him. It felt weird being around him while Jang Min was thousands of miles away. You were not one to overthink, though you suspected that your boyfriend's assistant kept you under a hawk-like gaze and was reluctant to follow your requests unless Jang Min explicitly told him to oblige.
Today was one of the times when Lee Sung had explicit orders from his boss.
"Your dinner date with Jungkook-ssi is tomorrow. You're scheduled to meet up with the boss tonight."
"What?" You rubbed your ear as if that would help you understand what Lee Sung had just said.
Your boyfriend's assistant smirked. "Surprise! Boss Jang Min is back in Korea! He wants to see you first. He said there was no need for me to babysit Soobin-ah. He is very much welcome to join your date."
You should be over the moon. Your boyfriend, who you hadn't seen in months, was finally here. Regrettably, your mind was occupied with something else.
"But Jungkook..." You trailed off. You were sure you set up your date tonight. You even made a calendar invite about it so you wouldn't forget.
You were about to check your calendar, but Lee Sung folded down your laptop--an abrupt move that almost pinched your hands lingering on the keypad.
"Oops. Apologies, Mam~." Lee Sung sing-songed. "I've personally checked your schedule for this week. I have synced your calendar into mine for so long. Do you still doubt me, hmm?"
The pitiful look made Lee Sung look like a clown. You visibly cringed; the thought of your dinner date with Jungkook vanished because of it.
"Okay, fine." You scowled. "I'm bringing Soobin to my date. Where and when should I meet Min-ah?"
"Wanna pick him up at the airport first?"
For some reason, You really didn't. But how could you do that to your lover? Ultimately, you agreed and spent hours on the road and waiting at the airport. You thought your uneasiness would clear once you came face to face with Jang Min. Surprisingly, you were still plagued by jitters.
"Hi." Jang Min kissed you on the mouth. He whispered a few sweet nothings to you before turning to look at Soobin, "Little one, I've something for you."
It was a Hot Wheels Elite 1:18 Scale Ferrari F40. Your eyes twitched. You looked at your boyfriend uncomfortably, "This is expensive. You shouldn't have."
It was wrong to say that to someone who had just given your son a gift. You knew as much. You were about to retract your statement when Jang Min shrugged.
"It's a simple gift, Cолнышко мо. You shouldn't habitually give those discount-store wonders for Soobin. It’s disgusting."
You were taken aback, and despite Soobin not understanding what Jang Min meant, you still wanted to cover your son's ears so he couldn't hear such a mean statement.
"Price doesn't matter to me, Min-ah." Your jaw tensed, your chin jutting.
Jungkook had some free time a few days ago and arranged a scavenger hunt for Soobin. You found it cute, prompting you to take videos and tell Jang Min all about the activity.
You had to admit that it was a cheap game. Jungkook spent 6,600 KRW on rewards he planned to give Soobin during the hunt. His grand prize was the most affordable brand of strawberry pudding, but your son thoroughly enjoyed it.
The game was a success. It honed Soobin's observation skills and exposed him to more physical activities. You participated in the game, too. Jungkook encouraged you with a teasing tone by saying, "Of course, you are welcome to join! You have the temper of a three-year-old. Ow! Don't hit me, such a meanie!"
"Don’t call me that, you piece of shit!" You snarled and hit Jungkook when Soobin wasn't looking.
Jungkook pouted.
"But you are mean, and you snarl like a wolf. Wolf has a good sense of smell; you can teach our pup how to hunt."
It was a feat to ignore your fluttering heart after that. ‘Our pup,’ Jungkook said. You couldn't control your emotions, so you gingerly shut your mouth and faked a hiss before turning to Soobin to brief him on how to play the game.
Overall, it was a fun experience. You won a prize because Jungkook hid an I.D. lace you were meant to find in the bushes. It had a simple design which you loved.
You have been going to your office these past days. The new lace helped because now you wouldn’t struggle to clip your I.D. on your clothes.
"Your old I.D pin is tacky. The new lace will make you a little less uncool."
"Shut the fuck up, bastard," You hissed.
Your playful banter continued, and you appreciated simple moments like this. You made up your mind not to let a mean comment from Jang Min get on your nerves.
Thankfully, Jang Min shrugged his shoulders, too jet-lagged to argue with you. You pushed through with your dinner date, though.
It was in a fancy restaurant Lee Sung had arranged. Soobin set aside his new car toy in favor of running around the place. You were in a private room, so no prying eyes darted on Soobin.
Unfortunately, you couldn't hear what Jang Min was discussing because of how loud Soobin was.
Gone were the days he sat still. Even Jang Min noticed this.
"Why'd he become so hyper suddenly?"
Your shoulder deflated. "I don't know."
It was the truth. You refused to say that the change started when Jungkook started babysitting Soobin, but Jang Min knew about it anyway.
"He's having too much fun with Jungkook-ssi, I supposed." Jang Min propped his chin on his palm as he called Soobin.
The child went near Jang Min at once. He batted his eyelashes at your boyfriend, earning a soft smile from Jang Min.
"Sleep?" Soobin asked obediently while Jang Min caressed his cheeks.
"Later, little one. You can play. Just don't be naughty."
Your heart softened at the sight. Jang Min and your son really did get along. However, you couldn't ignore the uncomfortable feeling in your chest:
You appreciated your boyfriend bonding with Soobin, but that's all to it. You found that you couldn't feel anything for Jang Min aside from gratefulness for trusting and caring for you and Soobin all this time.
"Min-ah." You muttered softly.
Jang Min told Soobin to play with Lee Sung before he turned to look at you. Your eyes looked as deep as the sea. Jang Min wanted to sail through it.
"What is it, Cолнышко мо?" Jang Min held your hand.
Months passed since you last touched him. You used to feel warm whenever your boyfriend's touch lingered on your skin. But now, there was nothing but coldness.
Jang Min's hands were damn cold. You tried to remember if it had always been like this. You didn't flinch now that Jang Min grabbed your hand, giving you a sense of familiarity that the coldness you felt was nothing new.
It was as if this winter feeling had been going on forever, and you simply thought that the cold water was warm since you had just gotten inside your home after being out in the snow.
"Cолнышко мо?”
You snapped your head up and met Jang Min's eyes. They're not chestnut brown—it didn't feel warm.
He wasn't Jungkook.
"Jang Min-ssi," Your chest heaved. You called your boyfriend's name with ragged breath.
Silence lapsed between you. Jang Min's white ushanka froze your heart more.
"I think we should break up."
It was said so suddenly. You gave no preamble, the paradoxical undressing phenomenon kicking inside you. It was your last straw before your feelings for Jang Min succumbed to hypothermia.
There was just no fire left to ignite your heart.
But Jang Min still held a match.
"You've had a long day, Cолнышко мо." The Russian man let go of your hand to signal the server to mind your bill, and then he casually wiped his mouth with a towel before indulgently looking back at you.
It's like Jang Min didn't hear or mind what you said.
"Maybe we should talk about this tomorrow. I only got home, too." He even made an excuse to shoot you down.
"No." But you couldn't wait anymore. You knew you were cruel, but every layer of your clothes begged to be shed. You were seconds away from dying out of the cold. "WeI have been postponing every serious conversation with you. I—"
You licked your lips and swallowed audibly, yet it wasn't enough to relieve your dry and aching throat.
You picked up your glass of wine and drank it in one go.
You looked at Jang Min guiltily.
"I can't anymore, Jang Min. I just..."
No silence or sugarcoating would lessen the abrupt guilt coating your heart.
You ripped off your last layer of winter clothes.
"I don't think I love you like that anymore." Or if I love(d) you at all.
Breaking the news of wanting to end your relationship was sudden, but the moments leading to it were not. You guessed it was partly your fault for ignoring the negative emotions you had felt for Jang Min over the past few months. Now, it was too late to fix them.
You were done. You couldn't fight even when a fraction of your mind told you so. Because if you loved Jang Min like your other half, you wouldn't feel nauseated at the thought of mending your broken relationship.
It's over.
You wanted to say more—to apologize to Jang Min for wasting his time, but you knew there was no point to that. It would just feel like slapping Jang Min in the face. Giving an excuse would only make you feel better. Jang Min wouldn't benefit at all.
"Alright." What was the use of a small matchbox when winter had come? Jang Min could only offer you a small smile. Not even you, who had been intimate with him, could decipher the quick curve of his lips.
"It's late. We should head home."
Jang Min insisted on bringing you back to his house. You were reluctant but agreed since you were with Soobin and didn't like driving while your son remained in the back seat alone. Besides, all of your things were under Lee Sung's care.
Lee Sung handed you your phone and wallet right after you entered the car. “Your phone’s dead.”
You shrugged. You didn’t have any important calls today, anyway.
"Thanks. Lee Sung-ssi--" You then offered your ex-boyfriend's assistant a genuine smile. It was the first time you attempted to be genuine to Lee Sung. "--For everything, especially for looking after Soobin."
"You make it sound like this is our last meeting, Mam." Lee Sung chuckled, oblivious that his boss was a single man now. "I know you got used to me driving you around, but don't get too sentimental on me. Tachihara's driving you home tonight, but we'll see each other soon. I just need to deal with a rat."
You were only being polite with Lee Sung. Frankly speaking, you didn't care what his agendas were. The word rat also left a bad taste in your mouth as you were reminded of your previous conversation with Jang Min. You didn't want to be rude, though—as your ex's calculating eyes were watching you. Soobin was also nuzzled in Jang Min's arms.
"Use your best trap, then." This was your farewell before shutting the car door close. You dared to look at Jang Min just to see his expression; for some reason, Jang Min's upper lips curved more.
The nauseating feeling clogged your throat again. You and Jang Min were done, so there was no need to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But you couldn't—afraid of what you’d know. You just did what you were good at: you pretended the uncomfortable feeling flooding your heart wouldn't drown you.
⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆
The rat was not caught in the trap because Jungkook freely trudged back to your apartment at one in the morning. He had dealt with Lee Sung, and only when he knew Lee Sung wouldn't harm his family did Jungkook decide to head home.
Jungkook was used to going back to a quiet home. Seeing Lee Sung tonight made him think he was back to his old life; this was why it shocked him to see you waiting for him.
"Welcome home, Kook." Your tone was lukewarm, masking all worries and guilt you harbored today because at least one thing was right:
Jungkook came back to you.
Sadly, Jungkook didn't seem too thrilled to see you. One look at your dropping eyes was enough for Jungkook to know you had an eventful night.
Jungkook sneered.
Jealousy was a little shit. Jungkook thought he was over it until he saw you smiling at him, acting like you didn't ditch him for the night.
Don't even get him started with your insincere concern. You had the most gentle smile when you welcomed Jungkook home, but it abruptly changed into an arched brow when you spotted the dried blood on Jungkook's skin.
"What happened to your hand?" You were alarmed, mindlessly crossing the distance between you two. Your rational thought disappeared as deep-seated fury and worry clouded your mind.
"Who hurt you?" You couldn't take it. The low grumble coming from your throat was akin to a wounded wolf.
Protect. You needed to protect Jungkook.
You seized your best friend’s wrist, chest tightening as an unbearable ache spread through your limbs.
There was a deep cut on Jungkook's palm, and God--you wanted nothing but to lick the wound and purr on Jungkook's neck. You knew you shouldn't feel this way. Breaking up with Jang Min wasn't an excuse to suddenly unleash your feelings for Jungkook.
But you were tired and pushed to your limits. Earlier, you wondered if you loved Jang Min at all. Now, the sinking feeling in your chest mocked and rejoiced as the thought of never getting over Jungkook overwhelmed your senses.
You found that the candle lighting your anger toward Jungkook was blown away—just as the darkness in your vision couldn't see and ignite the scorching type of love you once thought you felt toward Jang Min.
You heaved a deep breath.
Everything was too much and too little at once. Tears glistened in your eyes, but the lonely wolf inside of you was deprived of howling in the moon.
Jungkook pulled his hand away.
"What do you care if I got hurt?" His tone was scathing. Between the two of you, Jungkook held the burning lamp. He couldn't shake the image of you kissing another man, even though he knew it was irrational.
He hurt you first. But it didn't mean Jungkook turned into a fucking rock that wouldn't be shaken at seeing the love of his life get taken away.
Jungkook no longer felt human. Unfortunately, he still had his flesh and blood. His body tingled and felt like it was subjected to the fire after being in the frying pan for a long time. He was hurting, and masking his vulnerability didn't work anymore. Jungkook, in the face of the moon, finally bared his broken heart.
"Is that all you got? Pretending to care when you didn't even have the decency to tell me you're not coming to our planned dinner?"
A sharp edge to Jungkook's tone made your breathing hitch. The last time Jungkook acted this way was when you underestimated his venture with Oda. You never thought you’d see this side of Jungkook again. You got used to having the upper hand.
But you couldn't deny that you were in the wrong now.
"Fuck." You cussed, eyes widening as you struggled to keep your hands to yourself. You wanted to hold onto Jungkook, afraid that he'd bolt. "I—Jungkook, I didn't..."
Didn't what? Didn't know that Lee Sung messed up? That you blindly followed Jang Min’s assistant’s claim when you should have known better?
You felt stupid.
Jungkook was wearing the suit you bought for him. You could also tell that your best friend had blow-dried his hair earlier, as it had a more prominent curl at the end. Jungkook was probably nervous but sucked it up because you promised him a good time. You weren’t blind. You might not know what answer Jungkook would give, but you knew it took him much courage to be there.
Jungkook was never one to show up. He was a bolter, for fuck's sake. And the one time he didn't run away was also the time you made him wait in vain.
I'm sorry You liked to say. Unfortunately, the words were stuck in your throat.
Jungkook took in your expression. You looked constipated—as if acknowledging your mistake would be the end of the world.
Jungkook scoffed and shook his head.
"Whatever." He turned away. "You've always been like this, anyway."
That did the trick. You snapped out of your reverie. You looked at Jungkook as if he had offended your ancestors.
"What the fuck do you mean by that?"
But Jungkook wasn't looking at you anymore. He was walking toward his bedroom—as if he wanted nothing but to shut off the world.
You didn't think so. Jungkook had every right to pout, but he couldn't get away from accusing you of some bullshit. What did Jungkook mean you had always been like this!? Weren’t you the one who returned to Incheon after Jungkook and Jisoo stomped at your heart!?
"I'm talking to you, asshole!" You were about to forcefully grab the bastard's hand when Jungkook suddenly turned to you.
Your bodies bumped. You trembled when you felt Jungkook's hot, staggered breathing fanning your cheek.
Silence clouded the room, both your chests heaving.
The rim of Jungkook's eyes was red. He unconsciously nuzzled his nose against your cheek. You held back a flinch, your heart beating erratically against your ribcage.
Jungkook's heart wasn't doing any better. He wanted to claw it out and stomp it until it became a mess. This way, he wouldn’t feel anything anymore.
But that wasn't possible now, was it? Jungkook didn’t want his emotions to overwhelm him, but he didn’t think he could ever let go of the high he got from feeling the warmth of your skin.
You were addicting. It was easy to fall for you, making Jungkook think that what you two had was salvageable.
It wasn't. He made a mistake before, and you made a conscious decision to hurt Jungkook in return.
Jungkook took a step back. He could almost hear your silent protest. It made Jungkook want to pull his hair out.
You two really were fucked up. You both wanted to let go of each other, but neither wanted to unclench your fingers.
Jungkook sighed. He looked at you with resentment and defeat in his eyes.
"You never answered my letters."
Apologizing for your mistake was hard, but apologizing when you didn’t know what you did wrong was impossible.
"What letters?" Your mouth parted in confusion; a deep crease formed on your forehead. You had no idea what Jungkook was talking about.
Jungkook sniffed.
“Jungkook, what letters?” An unberable sense of panic shot through your body. It didn't help that your best friend looked hopeless.
Jungkook didn’t know where to start. All of this was fucked up. He just wanted to--
“I was in prison for years." –let it out. Jungkook broke the news to you as he took out a folded paper in the pocket of his dress shirt. “I sent you hundreds of letters from there, but you never responded.”
The paper was shoved into your chest. You panickily gripped it, scared Jungkook would snatch the paper. You had a feeling that this piece of paper contained the truth you had been craving all this time.
“I was going to accept your proposal, but I didn’t want to base our relationship on a lie.” Jungkook was doing well in trying to steady his voice. “I wanted to come clean to you. I wanted you to know that I paid half of my sins inside that shitty hole.”
You gasped lowly, too stunned to speak.
Jungkook had the urge to laugh because wasn’t it funny? He was just cradling his anger at you for making him wait in vain, but now he was forced to retreat again--to clip his claw and pretend it didn't hurt. How could he ever stand a chance against you when he was deemed as the evil one from the very start? As if making a mistake robbed him of feeling things—like he wasn’t allowed to start over again?
Jungkook didn’t know how to redeem himself anymore. He apologized to you for taking this long to tell him the truth.
“I…” You trailed off. You couldn’t meet Jungkook’s eyes. You were retreating, too.
Jungkook should have seen this coming--
“I..I need to process this.”
--and he had.
You were forced to be fed with information. You had no chance to chew them, so now you choked.
Jungkook clenched his jaw, forced to pacify himself to accept this. It’s okay, he told himself, because what else was he supposed to do aside from watching you crawl back to your room?
⋆ ˚。⋆⋆ ˚。⋆
Jungkook paced back and forth in the living room before standing before your bedroom door.
4:02AM. It had been hours since you last confronted each other. You said you needed to process the information slapped to your face, but you didn’t say how long.
Jungkook couldn’t help but probe. He knocked on your door once.
There was no answer from the other side of the room.
Inhale, Jungkook commanded himself before trying again.
This time, he used his voice: he called your name.
Jungkook had known you for years and understood that you wouldn’t be able to sleep after the intense stimulation you had experienced. He was proven right when he pressed his ear to the door and heard you stirring on the other side.
Jungkook's breath caught in his throat, a sudden intake of air filling his lungs, but he didn’t choke.
He felt relieved. You were listening to him.
Jungkook couldn’t waste his chance. He set aside his feelings in the hope of making this right.
You slowly sat on the floor while listening to your best friend speak. You were glad you couldn’t see Jungkook’s face, as that would prompt you to break down and cry.
“You said you need to process everything, but will you listen to me?”
Your lips were pursed, yet you rested your head on the door.
Jungkook let out a breath, “Being in prison should have been the first thing I told you, but I…”
There was silence. Jungkook forced himself to continue.
“I was scared. When you told me about Soobin, I didn’t know what to do with him. I…”
Don’t say it. Don’t say it.
“I didn’t want him,” Jungkook said.
Tears cascaded down your cheek, your fear materializing in the form of Jungkook’s soft tone but venomous words. You hated yourself for wanting to continue listening to him. Your treacherous mind was making you feel as if there was more to Jungkook’s story—that this wasn’t the time to snarl and hate him for feeling things.
“Soobin is my baggage, and he’s so, so heavy. He is a reminder of the things I have to carry with me wherever I go.”
Stop. Don’t say that to my child.
“But he isn’t like that anymore. Soobin is not a thing. He’s not a baggage. He’s my…”
Jungkook swallowed thickly as he puffed out his chest. “He’s my heart.” As he is yours.
“I understand if you want me gone. I kept the truth from you. You are a mother. I know you wouldn’t want your son to be associated with an ex-convict like me.” Jungkook said this as if he was sure there was no room for any other opinion. Jungkook did not regard himself highly—or even as a human after he fell from grace. It didn’t even occur to him to keep his anger to you. He cared more about what you would feel after knowing the truth. His own feelings be damned.
“But…” Jungkook clenched his hands into determined fists. “Please know that I won’t leave. Not unless you told me to.”
Your head snapped up, but you soon wiped your tears and pressed your ears on the door, thinking you could hear Jungkook say that again. Did you get it right? Was Jungkook really telling you he wouldn’t leave?
“I made the mistake of hurting and pushing you away. I am still living with the consequences of that. I don’t mind. I can pay for it for as long as you want, but I refuse to want to die because of it.”
Jungkook had wished for nothing but death since he messed up his life. However, he was done with that part of him. He said Soobin was his heart, but that was a lie. You and Soobin served as his heart—his family kept him going:
You and Soobin pumped blood into Jungkook’s veins.
Wanting to die was easy. It was his wish, but… “From now on, I will live for you and Soobin.”
Jungkook rubbed his face against the door, hoping you could somehow feel his sincerity. He wished to see you and look at your eyes as deep as the sea. Jungkook wanted to drown in them.
“I will be here,” Jungkook repeated. “For as long as you will take me.”
There was no response from you, but Jungkook didn’t mind. He simply closed his eyes, wishing that when the sun rose, you would find it in yourself to take him back.

Typing back your response, you tucked the phone away, realising the time for your lectures would be soon.
Packing everything up, you zipped your backpack and slung it over your shoulder, the small stitch keychain you had attached to it moving wildly.
Nodding slightly towards your classmates, they didn't seem to really even notice that you were leaving. You didn't mind; shrugging it off, you went on with your day.
You didn't necessarily have lectures where the teacher would be present and speak in front of a full class. Rather, you had been sent different documents, themes, and such every week that you had to study throughout.
The art history course wasn't necessarily your favourite by any means; you were always more into the actual creating process, but you also loved getting to know new artists and their works and analysing their processes and techniques.
So you made your way to the second floor. There were not many students in your way, as most of them were somewhere doing their own thing. Using your ID, you opened the library doors, walking in and shutting them gently behind you, making sure not to make a big ruccus.
The librarian that sat at the desk was an omega, like you were, but she was much older than you and never really spoke to you. You didn't think wrongly of it, understanding well why she was this way.
Mumbling a soft hello, she only glanced at you before she got back to filling out some of the documents laid before her. Walking around the desk, you made your way through the small walkways, stacked between tall rows of books.
You always liked going to the libraries; they smelled comforting to you, and with how quiet they were, it was just a safe space for you.
Making your way to the desks a few of the students were occupying, you took your seat at the furthest corner, next to a window that let in nice light.
You soon got to work, taking out the notebook and your notepad and pulled out the materials you had earlier printed out for yourself. Clicking the pen, you started writing, only having about 2 hours until you had to get back to your class.
You were paying close attention to your studies, making sure to finish on time. You weren't feeling like spending any of your free after-college time finishing up stuff you didn't do when you had the extra time for it.
You would much rather hang out with the packmates instead.
You forgot your earbuds at home, but luckily, the library was very quiet, so you were able to focus well. You liked listening to background audio when you worked on pretty much anything, but you settled without it.
Checking the time on your phone, it was already 14:51. You would have to get back to the studio by 15 at the latest. You still had to go over some stuff with your classmates, decide on who would do what, and finalise the whole poster concept.
Plus, you had to also work on your own assignments; not only did you have the „What is your problem?” theme, you still had to work on a few things for the ceramics and illustration course.
Closing the notepad and plucking your pencil case back into your bagpack, you collected all your stuff before leaving. Looking at your phone while walking, you opened the group chat again, noticing that they had replied by now.
Walking back downstairs, you took a seat at the big table once again. Most of your classmates were already littered all around, some typing in stuff on their own notebooks, others already painting at the studio stands, working on their solo works.
Walking over to Chin-Hae, you tapped the beta on his shoulder, trying not to make him jump in fright. He had a pair of black headphones over his ears, focusing fully on his sketchbook while he mapped out some ideas for his own projects.
Looking up at you, he pulled the earphones down, his eyes larger with wonder. „What is it?” He asked, not used to you coming to him.
„I was just wondering if you and Sun-Hi Unnie had time; we could go over the posters now." You murmured, rubbing at your arms, fingers hidden away.
Not answering you immediately, you saw him purse his lips before he looked towards where the other student was sitting, on the laptop typing.
„I guess we can do it now...” He mumbled, obviously not fully set on his decision, making you feel bad immediately.
„We don't have to,- if it's not the right time-." You tried to softly say it, but your voice must have been too quiet since the older student didn't react at all.
Sighing out loudly, he got out of his chair, took a few steps towards the other group member, and mumbled a few words to her before they both sat down next to each other.
With their stares on you for a second, you were confused, expecting them to come sit by the already arranged three chairs next to where the beta was sitting earlier, but guess not.
Jumping into action, you quickly took a chair from next to you and hastily carried it over to them, both of them already sitting close together with the girl's computer before them. Not sure where to exactly go, you just took a seat behind them, trying to see the screen yourself.
„Okay.. let me find the files for it quickly.” Sun-Hi said, holding the small mouse under her palm as she went through her files, opening a folder consisting of a few documents.
Clicking on the one titled "Poster Concepts," she let it load up, opening her Photoshop programme.
„...Do you guys have any ideas?” Turning in her seat, she looked over both of you, her hair well styled and pulled up in a claw clip. She always looked well put together. You admired that about her a lot.
It was quiet for a second, and soon both of the betas turned to look at you when none of them had spoken.
„...um.. I was thinking that since we have a quite colourful colour scheme, the writing should be just plain and simple so it's easy to read...”
You almost whispered, avoiding their eyes as much as possible. They always seemed just a bit too judgmental, especially since you were supposed to work on the project together.
Chin-Hae nodded, scratching the top of his head a little bit. „Yea, I mean that's... kinda obvious, but okay.” He answered, leaning back in the chair.
„Yea... And then for the actual concept, I was thinking we should just take a photo of one of the works we will exhibit; I think the works Heemin Chung-ssi provided for us would look good."
You said that, unsure of what they would think. Heemin Chung was quite a well-known artist who, after being messaged along with a few other local artists about being in their exhibition, didn't take much time to respond.
The group project then got a bit more serious, realising that it wouldn't be only the pack members of the school students visiting now. It might attract a lot more attention, and since marketing was a big part of the assignment, they knew they would have to incorporate this as much as possible.
„Good, yeah, I think that could work well, yeah. Will you do it then?” The girl asked you, one forearm resting over the back of her seat, looking at you with a sweet-looking smile.
You felt your eyes widen a little; there wasn't much time until you would have to get it finished. With only until about tomorrow or so, you knew this could get to be a bit of a time trap.
For god's sake, the list of all the artists in the exhibitions wasn't even finished yet!
„Yeah, I think you should do it; I'm sure whatever vision you have is... nice. We can go over it by tomorrow morning and adjust anything needed still.” Chin-Hae agreed, nodding his head.
„I'm not sure if I can—" You tried to say it, but it fell on deaf ears. At your complaints, the betas sighed out loudly, obviously annoyed with you, both of their scents suddenly heavier than before.
„Gosh. It's fine. Here, I'll send the file to your school email; just type it in.” Sun- He sighed out, already opening the mail app and pushing the laptop closer to you.
Unsurely, you typed in your school address, slumping back in the seat as you watched her look through her files, find the right one, and attach it to the email. After clicking send, the work was quickly transferred to your shoulders with no problems.
„Okay, great! Let's talk again in the morning.” Your classmate smiled, her teeth showing, bright and white. Nodding, you just decided to go with it; it wouldn't be too big of a deal-breaker for you, right? You would get it done just fine, like Unnie said.
Placing the chair back in its place, you went around the table again, sitting in your spot. Taking a big sip out of your half-empty water bottle, you knew you really had to thank Jimin for telling you about the syrup. It was very tasty.
Realising that you would just have to get to the poster after school, you now still had to work on your own projects, opening your laptop and going through all the emails you received pretty much every monday from your teachers regarding some feedback and suggestions.
Taking notes on your notepad, it didn't take long until the class got a bit more rowdy. Looking up, you noticed most of your classmates packing up; the time was 16:14.
You weren't that far in yet; you've only just read through the critiques for your illustration sketches so far. You would have to completely change two of your already well-thought-out pictures, which would add to some of your work.
Luckily, the teacher approved of the story book cover design you made. For one of the final semester projects, you chose to work on a book full of fables and stories that would be mostly for still very young pups.
You weren't used to making children's illustrations, but after reading the first one, you kind of fell in love.
It was a very cute story, in a way a bit sassy too, about the beginning of the world when a magician taught all animals how to act like themselves. A crab escaped, though, and started to play around with the sea instead, making giant tide waves appear out of nowhere.
With the humans complaining, the magician was quick to solve the issue. Taking the angsty, oversized crab to talk, he took away his shell. Feeling vulnerable, the animal turned whiny, blaming the humans for building their houses too close to the shore.
And so, he was given a pair of scissors, helping him cut up fruits and be more comfortable in the wild. He was allowed to be in the sea and also on land, but as a reminder of his mistakes, his shell would only last him 11 months of the year.
You just found it very cute and funny; with the constant whining and complaining from the sea animal, it was just very cute for you. And so, after you finished reading all the other 24 fables, you were sure that this was the perfect thing for you to work on.
Remembering Namjoon telling you to tell them in advance, you took your phone out once again, opening the group chat.
Even when you didn't get a response right away, you knew that they would notice in time. You weren't sure who would come take you, but with how insistent they were on giving you a lift once again, you knew that they would in fact come.
Smiling lightly to yourself, you opened up the next email, reading over it carefully.
Dear Miss L/N,
I have carefully observed your ceramic work on the theme of ideology, and I must say that it is quite thought-provoking. Your artistic exploration of this complex concept is commendable. In order to help you continue to grow as an artist, I would like to offer some critiques and suggestions that may further enhance your understanding and expression of ideology in your ceramic pieces.
Please keep in mind that these critiques are meant to be constructive and to inspire you towards improvement.
Composition
Your choice of composition in your ceramic work effectively communicates your conceptual ideas about ideology. The arrangement of forms and elements within each piece creates a visual narrative that engages the viewer. Well done!
However, in some instances, the placement of certain elements can be further refined to enhance the overall impact of your work. Consider experimenting with different arrangements to find the most compelling composition for each piece.
Craftsmanship
Your craftsmanship in shaping the ceramic forms is impressive. The level of detail and precision you have achieved adds depth and character to your work and allows your ideas on ideology to come to life.
However, in your earlier assignments, I noticed a few areas where the glazing could be improved. Be mindful of achieving a smooth and consistent application of glaze this time, as it will help to create a more polished final appearance for your ceramics.
Symbolism and Visual Language
The symbolism and visual language you have employed effectively convey your intended message about the theme; therefore, you are on track regarding that. The choice of symbols and their placement within each piece successfully create a dialogue between the viewer and the work.
To push your exploration of ideology even further, consider experimenting with different symbols or incorporating additional layers of meaning. This will deepen the viewer's understanding and create a more nuanced conversation around the theme. I carefully read through your written notes you sent me earlier, and you are following your visions well so far.
However, in some instances, certain elements within your work may distract from the core theme. Take a step back and evaluate each piece to ensure that every element contributes to the overall conceptual clarity of your message.
Keep up the exceptional work, and I look forward to seeing how your artistic journey unfolds.
Best regards,
Wan Sook
Sighing out, you jotted down a few notes. Your teacher for ceramics was quite strict but open-minded about the assignment messages. She always intended for her students to tell their own story and provide their own message, but she didn't let anyone slack off during the class either.
Standing up, you knew you would just have to finish everything up at home again; it was late enough and the sun would start setting in only a few hours at maximum.
All of your classmates have already left, so you just packed up your stuff, turned off the lights, and went to the school entrance.
Checking your phone for any notifications, you only saw one.
We? What was that supposed to mean? You thought only one would come to get you. They must have been busy today; they should focus on their work instead of coming to get you.
Furrowing your eyebrows slightly, you unlock your locker before you put on the jacket and the scarf, careful to tie ot around your neck tightly.
Walking to the entrance, you beeped your ID at the scanner, allowing you to walk through the barrier with no issues. With the glass doors sliding open thanks to the motion trigger, you walked out, walking down the few front steps slowly.
You noticed Sun-Hi and one of your other classmates, Haneul, standing near the entrance, leaning against a wall, smoking. You never got to speak with Haneul before; she reeked of a heavy alpha scent, and with how upfront she is, you were always just too shy to even approach her.
You didn't pay them much attention, only recognising their scents and the smell of smoke; you didn't even dare to pass them a glance. Instead, you walked towards the parking lot right in front of the school.
You couldn't see the car the alphas came in with earlier in the morning, but there were only about 8 cars parked, and compared to any of the other ones, the sleek and much bigger car struck your attention immediately.
Walking in the direction of the black Hyundai, you saw the front doors open before three men piled out quickly. Coming to you the fastest, Tae already had his arms outstretched and his long trenchcoat left unbuttoned.
His arms wrapped tightly around you right away, tucking your head gently underneath his mask covered chin. You could feel his chest rumble a bit in content. With his cheek rubbing over your hair gently, you also nudged his neck a little.
„My sweet babycheeks. How are you, baby? Ah, I'm so glad to see you finally!” He proclaimed, but before he had time to say anything else, you were already pulled into a different pair of arms.
Gently brushing over your head softly, the alpha checked over your form, making sure you were fully okay after they had been absent for a little while. They were anxious about having you leave their sight.
„Come here, peaches; let me hold you for a little bit, cub.”
Jin didn't say much else, opting instead to hold you tighter and closer, one hand still rubbing over your head. He too scented you a little bit.
Pulling away after noticing the last man hover around for a bit, too shy to approach, he smiled at you finally, letting Yoongi also get his sweet greetings with you.
Turning to the last alpha, he beckoned you closer, having you take the few steps hurriedly before you hugged him yourself.
Exaggerating the huff he let out at you cuddling up to his chest, he soon let off and also pulled you close to him. Brushing a few locks behind your ear, he watched you fondly, also looking over at you.
All three of them made sure to subtly go over your scent glands, making sure you weren't in any distress or sadness.
Assured that your day went okay, even Yoongi soon rubbed his chin and knuckles over your face, gentle and content with you in his arms after a long day.
„My kitty. Alpha missed you, sweet baby. Were you a good girl today?” Nodding subtly, you felt your cheeks heat up slightly and your stomach flutter a little.
„Good.”
Was all he answered, pulling you towards the opened car. Waiting for you to enter first, he got in the back seats with you, and even if there was free space next to the window seats, he was quick to pull you to the middle one.
Patting you on the head gently, he pulled the car door closed, shushing you at your soft whines. „It's only for safety, kitty, I promise. Buckle up now.” Yoongi ruffled up your hair a little, smiling at you softly.
With Taehyung driving and Jin sitting next to him, the car soon went on its way. As you were going out of the parking lot, you noticed both of your classmates looking at the vehicle next to the entrance.
„How was your day, cub?” Jin asked after turning on some soft music to play in the background. He turned in his seat a little, his puffer jacket crinkling a little.
Looking out of the window, you thought of your day. Nothing too bad happened, so it was a good day—great even.
„It was alright. I still have to finish up some stuff for tomorrow, though.” You mumbled the last part, picking a little at your fingernails.
„What do you have to do?” Taehyung asked, only sharing a short glance with you through the back mirror.
„Just one poster; I'll tell you about it later.” You whispered, too tired to worry about it now.
„Okay baby. Do you want to go to your place and stay there for the night?” The alpha asked, noticing how wrecked you looked.
Even when they would always have you choose what you would want to do yourself, they did secretly hope that you would stay with them tonight, and the nights continuing on.
You seemed to be settling in so well, and after seeing in what part of the city your apartment complex was located, they knew that it would be a bit better for you. There was no such thing as rushing with the second gender's needs.
„I can't stay tonight...? With you guys?” You whispered again, your disappointment and sadness clouding up in the small space, making all of them alert suddenly.
„No, no, no, baby. Of course you can babycheeks; you can always stay with alphas.” The youngest was quick to correct himself, making sure not to be misunderstood. He was just worried about them moving on too quickly with you.
It really was considered normal in a lot of packs to have the mate they were currently courting move in pretty much right away.
They wouldn't mind you doing the same, but they understood well that easing into it over time would work better for you.
„Alphas will always take care of you, sweet kitten. How could we not? You are the sweetest little 'mega around kitty.” The alpha next to you said, his voice final, making sure to not leave you in doubt.
Especially since he was telling the truth.

READER POV
TWO WEEKS LATER
Your stomach churned as if readying to unload what little breakfast you had eaten all over your skirts. The room seemed too small, too tight, bustling with servants whose sole focus was on getting you ready. The air was thick, choking your throat as you tried to breathe deeply. No matter how hard you tried, your lungs would not expand fully. The chattering voices of the servants, who were once silent shadows working under the dark cloud of Beron Vanserra’s rule, was drowned out amidst the noise in your brain.
Desperately fanning your face, you were lightly scolded by a young servant with bright red hair brushing out your eyebrows. “Don’t do that, my Lady!” She chided gently. “You’ll ruin my masterpiece!”
“Sorry…” You muttered, forcing your hands back to your sides. It had been a long time since you had worn a full face of makeup, and you had missed it greatly. The redhead servant had lined your eyes with kohl, smudging out brown and gold shadows on your lids. Your cheeks had been blushed and bronzed to perfection, and a thin, nude sheen across your lips.
At your apology, she looked shocked for a moment before the tenseness left her shoulders and she relaxed. Your heart ached for her, and for everyone who had worked for the past few centuries under Beron. His harsh rule would be a wound that only time would heal for many. It was evident in the behaviour of everyone in the palace – the surprise when simple mistakes were brushed off after an apology rather than a lashing, the rising warmth of the atmosphere in the palace that had once been silent and cold. Sure, Eris still ruled firmly and it would take a while for everyone to realise he was not his father. But little by little, the icy walls of the Autumn Court were beginning to thaw.
“Wedding nerves, I guess.” You said casually as a set of dangly gold earrings were placed on your ears. Never before had you had this many sets of hands tending to you. A tall male was carefully working on your hair, twisting a loose braid across the back of your head and artfully arranging the rest of your loose hair. Several times, you had attempted to sneak a glance in the mirror to see the full look, but too many servants stood in the way.
“It is certainly a big day for you, my Lady.” The redhead servant agreed, finishing the final touches on your face. Her hands were soft and delicate, light as feathers as she blended any smudges her expert eyes sought out. “An unusual event for the court, too.”
You tensed slightly. “I know it’s not your typical wedding or anything–” you began. But her soft chuckle interrupted you.
“Forgive me,” she said softly. “I did not mean for it to come across that way. It is a new beginning for everyone, and this place could do with some change. The only ones who have an issue with your marriage and title are the old courtiers and males stuck in their ways. But us servants do not share those beliefs. You have our support, my Lady.”
Your heart warmed at her kind and open words, and a smile found its way across your face. “What is your name?” You asked.
“Adelaide, my Lady.”
You gently grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze. “Thank you, Adelaide.”
Adelaide smiled, dipping her head respectfully before grabbing her supplies and beginning the cleanup process. As the busy hands of the servants began to slow, you realised that the moment was approaching faster and faster with each moment. Finally, you took a deep breath, and when the servants retreated their hands for a moment, you shifted to face the large mirror across from you.
Awe filled you as you took in their work. Your hair was styled beautifully, leaving only a few soft strands framing your face while the rest curled down behind your shoulders. Your eyes were striking, the various jewellery you donned designed to match beautifully. Tears welled in your eyes as you finally drank in the sight of your dress. The soft white fabric had red roses and vines embroidered on the bottom of the skirts as well as the bodice. The sleeves were loose, gathering around your wrists in just the right way. The neckline was a modest V shape, complimenting the emerald necklace sat on your chest. For just a moment, your heart ached knowing your mother would never get to see you married. It made more tears well up.
“Now, now, what did I say about ruining my masterpiece?” Adelaide chided, taking a cloth and dabbing under your eyes to catch any stray tears.
“Sorry,” You winced, forcing your tears back. “You guys have done an amazing job. Thank you, all of you.”
The servants grinned proudly at each other, bowing their heads as they cleaned up at the speed of light. “Your escort should be here shortly to walk you down the aisle.” The male servant who had done your hair said. And then just like that, they were gone. Leaving you with your own thoughts.
Your heart was racing. After all these weeks of planning, it was finally here. You weren’t sure why you were nervous – you loved Nesta and Eris. This wedding, this moment of time, was everything you had worked for and more since your arrival in the Night Court. Every sacrifice, every hard choice, had all led to this day. Yet it hardly felt real, even as you stood in your wedding dress, staring in the mirror in awe of your reflection. Countless hours had been spent helping the staff decorate, tasting hundreds of food samples for the menu, sitting bored out of your mind with Nesta and Eris at various meetings regarding not just the wedding, but the official crowning ceremony as well. All of that led to this very moment. And you were sure you were going to vomit.
Thankfully, a familiar voice sounded in your head, halting your rising stomach juices. Please don’t throw up on your dress, I can feel your nerves from here. Nesta scolded. At the sound of her voice, you felt yourself relaxing a bit.
I make no promises, you replied. How are you so composed right now? I’m freaking out.
She snorted. I can tell. Are you forgetting I spent practically a decade training for this thanks to mother dearest?
Right. How could I possibly forget that?
You’ll be fine. We’ve made it this far, a wedding is nothing.
I wish I could see you right now.
Soon enough, love. Just wanted to check in. I’ll see you at the altar.
Ok. I love you.
I love you, too.
Your heart sung at her words. Hearing Nesta say she loved you was like listening to the most beautiful song you had ever heard, one you would never get tired of. The three of you had agreed to keep dresses a secret, saving the big reveal for the aisle. You were itching to simply run out of the room and seek out Nesta and Eris, desperately wanting to see them before the wedding.
A knock at the door interrupted your urges, and you shook your nerves off as the wood swung open to reveal Lucien. Your jaw dropped as your friend entered the room dressed in heavy green robes with gold accents and a long cloak. His hair was intricately braided back, accenting his chiselled, handsome, face. Lucien smirked at your reaction. “I know, I look hot.” He said, chuckling.
“This is the fanciest I’ve ever seen you dress.” You scoffed.
“Take it all in now, honey. Because it won’t happen again.”
You rolled your eyes. “As High Lady I order you to dress this nicely more often.”
Lucien let out a laugh. “I will defect to Winter Court if this new title keeps inflating your big head like this.”
Your cheeks hurt from smiling at this point. A comfortable silence settled over you and your best friend as Lucien looked you up and down. His voice was full of wonder as he spoke. “You look amazing. Truly.”
“Thank you, Lucien.” You said as you smoothed your skirts. The room began to feel stifling again as you realised he was here because it was time to walk down the aisle to Nesta and Eris. “Oh gods, it’s time, isn’t it?”
Lucien nodded, extending his arm towards you. “Yes. As much as it’s fun to see you freak out over your own wedding, it’s time to get it together. Your partners are waiting.”
You took one last glance in the mirror to make sure nothing was amiss before stepping off the pedestal with shaky legs, grabbing onto your friend’s arm. “Lucien?” You said tentatively, your voice sounding far away as you tried to calm your breathing. “Don’t let me fall.”
Lucien’s voice was gentle. “Never,” he assured you. So you clung onto his arm, willing strength into your body as you lifted your chin and followed him out of the room.

NESTA POV
Nesta steadied her breathing, thankful she had put on a brave face for you during your brief exchange. Truthfully, she was just as much of a wreck as you were. True, her mother had spent years priming her for marriage, but this was not what Mrs. Archeron had had in mind for her eldest daughter. For a split second, Nesta contemplated laughing at the image of her mother’s face as she looked up at the from Hell, crying out in horror at Nesta marrying two faeries, one of whom being a female. It would turn her in her grave for sure.
The servants that had scurried away a few moments ago, leaving Nesta with a few blissful minutes of peace before a guard would come to fetch her for her entrance. You and Eris had pressed if she was really okay walking down the aisle herself, considering you had Lucien and it was custom for Eris to walk alone. She had shook off the concerns, insisting she was more than capable of doing it herself.
But looking in the mirror at her red lined lips, beautifully coronet braided hair, and satin dress with a straight neckline, long sleeves, and gold detailing, she couldn’t help but feel like a child again. A little girl who wanted her mom and dad to hold her hand and tell her they were there for her. Not that either of her parents ever had, and for years Nesta convinced herself she didn’t care. She thought she was loved by them at first, too young to know that some types of love could be bad. And then she became tied to her mother, a moth trapped in the twisted spider web of a cunning woman’s plans to groom her young daughter to please men that rivalled her father in age. Her father had let this happen, not once standing up for her or pushing back on her mother’s harsh disciplining. Just like Cassian had with Rhysand.
Nesta shivered, as if shaking off the mere sound of Cassian’s name in her mind and pushing it as far away as possible. The Illyrian general was aware of the wedding most likely, as formal invitations had been sent out to all of the courts. At first, Nesta and you had pushed back against the Night Court being invited. “As much as I do not want them near us, I cannot do that,” Eris had begrudgingly told them. “It is customary for all court leaders to come and bend the knee to the new ruler, or rulers in our case. If they do not, it will tip the already shakey diplomacy scales within Prythian. But fear not, I added a personal note to their invite saying they were expected to come after the wedding ceremony. They will sneak in as we begin the crowning and acknowledge our leadership and then leave. They will not be here long.”
No reply was received, but Nesta knew some of the Inner Circle would be coming. Feyre was likely too pregnant and too ill to attend, and there was no way Mor would be talked into attending, much to Nesta’s relief. Rhys would have to attend, as would Amren. She had no idea as to what Azriel was currently doing, but her stomach churned at the possibility of Cassian and Elain being there. She prayed that they would elect to stay home. Nevertheless, Eris had assured her the dragons would be there behind the throne as they had been upon the wedding announcement, ready to intervene if needed.
As the clock ticked, Nesta felt those hateful thoughts swimming to the surface again. They had quieted in the past few weeks, letting her have peace from her own self hatred. But doubt began to fill her, and suddenly her dress was stifling.
She did not deserve to marry you, or Eris. Nesta was not worthy of your kindness and strength, nor Eris’s help and protection. Cassian had always mocked her for expecting to marry a prince, and not a low born bastard like him. But perhaps she did belong with someone who merely echoed the hateful things her own mind said to her.
Nesta wrung her hands together, practising her mind stilling as her thoughts threatened to consume her. But a gentle knock on the door broke her trance, and she straightened her back and smoothed out her skirts. After making sure she was composed, she said firmly, “Enter.”
It was not a guard who opened the door, but the familiar face of Lirilla. Her wavy auburn hair had been decorated with golden bits of hair jewellery, a red ribbon woven into the long braid that went down the back of her head. Her eyes were bright, her once skinny-figure now more filled out into the beautiful green gown she wore. “Hello, Nesta.” She said, closing the door behind her.
Nesta’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Is something wrong? Aren’t you supposed to be at the ceremony right now?”
Lirilla shook her head. “Everything is okay, my dear. But I come bearing an offer. One that you do not have to take, but I would be honoured if you did.”
Nesta cocked her head, but nodded for Lirilla to go on. “My son mentioned you were walking down the aisle alone, is that correct?”
“Yes.” Nesta said tightly. “I have no family here to give me away, so I will walk by myself.”
Lirilla took Nesta’s hand, rubbing gentle circles along her palm. “Forgive me if I am overstepping, but Eris tells me your relationship with your father was nonexistent, and your mother unpleasant. He said nothing more, but I also know that you were once human. And difficult parents or not, being given away at the altar is a common practice in the mortal lands. Am I correct to assume that?”
Nesta nodded stiffly, forcing the lump in her throat back down. No matter how many walls she put up, Lirilla could see right through her. “You know, I have always wanted a daughter who I could walk down the aisle.” The Lady of Autumn continued. “I understand you claim to be confident in walking yourself to the altar, but I know there must be some part of you clinging to that tradition from your old life. I would love to give you away, if you will have me.”
Nesta was glad she was not wearing heavy eye makeup, because a single tear escaped down her cheek. “I would like that very much.” She said through a choked voice. A mother’s love was something so foreign to her. All she knew of it was a twisted, cruel version that could not be considered any type of love. But the kindness in Lirilla’s face filled that void inside of her that her own mother left.
“Then let us get on with it.”
Nesta happily took her arm, allowing Eris’s mother to lead her from her room of solitude and towards the throne room. The closer they got to the large doors, the more the buzzing liveliness of the ceremony began to seep into her bones. She could feel the energy, the excitement of not only her mates, but the crowd as well. The stream of music began to fade as they reached the door, Lirilla nodding to the guards who spoke in whispers. She turned back towards Nesta as silence overcame the hall. “It is time,” She said softly.
Nodding, Nesta clenched tighter around Lirilla’s arm. It seemed like an eternity of waiting encapsulated in mere seconds as she waited for her cue. She took deep breaths, taking comfort in that bond within her that glowed with the presence of her mates.
Finally, the soft whistle of a flute rang from behind the doors, the start of the entrance music. She counted the seconds in her head, and after the 53rd second mark, the doors opened and she stepped through them.
A crowd far bigger than she had expected stood up. Candles and red, green, and gold flowers lined the aisle, similar decorations scattered across the throne room from every lamp, chair, and table. But Nesta did not look at the people, nor their dragons standing proudly behind the three thrones, their heads arching in through the open space. Her gaze was focused on the male at the altar underneath the archway of branches.
Eris was dressed in the most elaborate set of robes Nesta had ever seen. Gold and red draped his shoulders, a green cloak flowing behind him. A long sword rested on his hip, and a crown of gold sat atop his red hair. Her breath hitched in her chest at the sight of this male, her mate who had done so much to help her escape her prison in the Night Court. She almost stopped walking, but a gentle squeeze on her arm told her to keep going. She felt all eyes on her as she made her way towards the altar, but they were like whispers in the wind fading behind her, nonexistent as she focused on the male ahead of her. The soft music rang in her ears, a beautiful blend of notes that captured every emotion in her chest.
When she came to the end, Lirilla released her arm, giving her a soft kiss on the cheek before taking her seat in the front row. Nesta could barely breathe, barely move as Eris stood mere inches away. Eris smiled softly, his eyes tender as he took in the sight of her wedding dress. He extended his hand, which Nesta gladly took. His warm skin on hers brought her back to reality, snapping her out of her trance. He guided her up to take his place on his left side, just as they had practised.
With one last longing look at each other, Nesta and Eris turned to face the crowd, hands joined as they waited for you.

READER POV
Right on time, the guard nodded to Lucien as you rounded the corner, signalling that Nesta had taken her place at the altar and it was your turn. The tune shifted slightly, and you knew it was the two minute and forty second mark you had memorised as your cue. With one last reassuring smile from Lucien, you stepped through the open doors and into the throne room.
Your entire body was both numb and on fire as you took your first steps on the aisle. Never before had you been so grateful for Lucien holding you, for you would surely collapse without his support. You ignored the hundreds of eyes that studied you as you approached Nesta and Eris at the altar, their dragons behind them in the distance. Zorzîmril purred as she saw you, and your lips twitched with a laugh as a few guests flinched at the sound. The tune of the music carried you down the aisle, and with each step you took towards your mates the more confidence you felt. Everything you had done to escape the Night Court had been worth it, and this outcome was far better than anything you could have dreamed of.
Finally, you reached the end of your journey. Lucien bowed his head and kissed your hand before taking his place in the empty seat beside his mother. Your eyes pricked with tears as you drank in the beauty of your mates, from Eris’s elaborate robes to Nesta’s simple yet elegant gown. They looked perfect, and you were relieved that you had not seen them before the ceremony for you surely would have collapsed.
You took Eris’s extended hand, positioning yourself on his right side. After scanning the subjects before you per Eris’s prior instructions, the three of you turned towards each other, Eris stepping back slightly so a triangle could be formed and allow you to hold each other’s hand.
Behind you, a priestess stepped up under the archway, her blue robes shining in the light of the sunset behind her. When you snuck a glance at her out of the corner of your eye and saw familiar red hair and teal eyes, your eyes shot open.
The priestess was Gwyn.
You baulked, surprise evident on Nesta’s face as well momentarily. Eris simply winked, and you bit your tongue to refrain from scolding him for all these surprises. You snuck a glance at Gwyn in shock, and she simply let out a smug smile before composing herself and lifting her chin to address the crowd. A squeeze from Eris’s hand urged you to compose yourself as well.
“Citizens of the Autumn Court,” Gwyn’s voice rang clear and strong through the throne room, and pride swelled in your chest. When you had first met Gwyn, she had refused to leave the library. For her to do something like this for you and Nesta was a testament to the nymph’s bravery. “We are gathered here today to witness the marriage between Eris Vanserra, High Lord of the Autumn Court, and Lady Nesta Archeron, and Lady (Y/N) Dreamfyre.”
You felt Nesta almost go giddy with excitement, and you squeezed her hand. You hadn’t heard your last name in ages, and now it was about to change entirely. It was bittersweet – a farewell to your old life, and the start of a new one.
“It is a day that marks a new era for the Autumn Court,” Gwyn continued. “One that marks the reign of a High Lord alongside two High Ladies. May the Mother bless this day and send good fortune to all within the realm. In the sight of the Mother, I hereby see you these three souls, binding them as one for eternity. Look upon one another and say the words as you bind yourselves in magic.”
In unison, you, Nesta, and Eris all spoke the words you had memorised weeks ago. Words that would be sacred on your lips, a seal of the promises you made to each other. “I am yours and you are mine from this day until the stars collide and eternity comes to an end.” From Eris’s palms, an orange flame emerged, curling around your left wrist and Nesta’s right. It was soft and warm against your skin, flickering gently. A silver flame from Nesta found your other hand, wrapping into it and Eris’s as well. It was colder, like the soothing waters of a creek. You took a deep breath, summoning the power of life within you that you had been practising for the last few weeks.
Bright white light emerged from your palms, tinted with flicks of blue as it eagerly wound itself with Eris’s flames in your left hand and Nesta’s in your right. So the three of you stood, magic entwining and singing a celestial song. Life, death, and fire mixed together, purring against your skin as it hummed. On your ring fingers on both hands, a small tattoo appeared. It was a delicate vine with leaves, wrapping around the finger like a ring. The same appeared on Nesta and Eris’s fingers – a symbol of your marriage, one that could never get lost or fade.
As the light of your entwined magic faded, your throat was thick with emotion as you gazed between Nesta and Eris with nothing but love. Gwyn’s voice continued proudly. “It is time for the exchange of vows, which have been written personally by each of the individuals before me. May you speak these words honest and true in the light of the Mother.” With that, the priestess stepped back slightly, giving Eris a nod before shooting you and Nesta a wink.
Eris cleared his throat. “Many males may envy me, for I have the two most beautiful brides in Prythian before me,” He began. “It is a dream of many to marry the perfect partner, a dream that most people are not fortunate enough to achieve. I am blessed to have not one, but two partners and achieve this dream. But Nesta, (Y/N), you are not just my brides. You are my mates, my equals, the force that binds me to this world and allows me to open my heart up.”
Eris turned towards you, amber eyes glowing with pride as he spoke. “(Y/N), you have a strength that rivals the foundations of the earth. Your selflessness and resilience through hard times is something I intend on admiring until the end of my days. You make this world a better place, your presence is like the sunlight that emerges over the mountains on the morning of winter’s chill. I am honoured to have you as my mate, and I will love you until the end of time itself.”
You could no longer hold back the tears that now flowed down your cheeks. Eris was staring at you with such intensity you felt like you were going to burst into flames right there and then. Long gone was the cold mask of indifference that he had sewn onto his face to survive in the harsh reality of Beron’s court. Everyone in the room could see his vulnerability, his love, how he was willing to open up that part of himself for the world to see.
Eris then turned to the other female beside you. “Nesta, you are as wild and untamable as the sea. A force of nature with a determination that inspires me to make change happen in a world that pushes against you. You have been through so much toil and conquered everything in your path, and you have my utmost respect and admiration. I am honoured that you have trusted me on this path.”
You saw Nesta’s face tight as she tried to conceal her emotions. Her lips stretched into a smile, her eyes giving everything away. You took in a deep breath, knowing it was your turn next. The words had been rehearsed in your head for days, playing in your head on a loop. Normally you hated speaking in public, and the thought of talking about your feelings in front of such a large crowd. But it all fell away in the background, and you spoke confidently. “Nesta, I don’t know how I would have gotten through these last few months without you,” you said to her. “You have been my rock ever since I met you, and within the first few weeks of our time together I knew we would blaze through this world like a wildfire. You are strong, you are smart, and I will love you until there is nothing of me left.
“Eris, you have proved yourself to be the most selfless male I have ever met. I love your witty remarks, your sharp mind that is never still for a moment, always conjuring up various ideas and schemes. I love you, and I cannot wait to begin this new chapter with both of you by my side.”
They gently squeezed your hands, the action sending a warm sensation down the bond. The dragons cooed gently from behind you, the rumble echoing throughout the vast chamber. Beside you, Nesta took a deep breath. It wasn’t a secret that she was the most nervous of the three of you to speak her vows. It was difficult for her to say how she feels even with just the two of you, let alone in front of an audience.
But her voice was strong as she spoke, no hint of hesitance of nervousness. “Eris,” She began, her grey eyes meeting the High Lord’s amber ones. “When we first met, one of the things you told me was ‘like calls to like’. I thought that you were simply referring to our powers, but I now realise that it reflects our relationship as well. You match me in mind and soul, and I owe you a debt I can never repay. Both of you.” Nesta turned her blue-grey eyes towards you. “(Y/N), you saved my life. You picked me up when I was at my lowest point, you helped me turn things around. You showed me that life was worth living and gave me the strength I needed. I love you, and my life would not be the same without you.”
Tears swam in her eyes, making you choke up. You glanced at Lucien in the crowd, who was looking at you both with pride in his eyes. Beside him, Lirilla was dabbing at her wet eyes with a cloth.
“In the name of the Mother, by the power vested in me, I declare you wed.” Gwyn said proudly, voice ringing out clear as day. “Citizens of the Autumn Court, I present to you: Eris Vanserra, Nesta Vanserra, and (Y/N) Vanserra.”
Cheers arose from the crowd, filling you with happiness. Initially, you had expected a strained crowd, filled with disapproving whispers. But if they existed, they were easily drowned out. Leaves fell softly from the ceiling like confetti, and the dragons roared as one. Eris pulled your hands, and the three of you pressed your foreheads together. You were all grinning happily, and the High Lord stepped back for a moment and you pulled Nesta in for a kiss. Her soft hands cupped your cheeks as yours rested on her waist, her lips pressing sweetly into yours as the crowds cheering continued. It was a brief kiss, but passionate nonetheless. Your heart sang as Eris kissed you next, his slender fingers lifting your chin up to meet his mouth. Your insides melted at the pure love pouring from both kisses, mind spinning as you stepped back while Eris moved to Nesta and kissed her in the same manner.
Scanning the crowd, you say a sea of happy faces. It seemed even those who had sneered weeks before had either come around, or learned quickly to put on a happy face. But something tugged at you, urging you to look further. And then you saw them.
At the back of the crowd stood Rhysand, Amren, Azriel, Cassian, and Elain.
