Wrapped him up in our @sollybaby this morning, he closed his eyes almost immediately and has only woken to nurse (& poop!) - think I’ve figured out how we’ll get things done when @colboy2 goes back to work 💃🏼 #thelittlestsawford #sollybabywrap https://ift.tt/2q2dJ0h

The one question every first-time mom asks other experienced moms, "What is your absolute must-have item for baby?" The @sollybaby wrap is hands down my must have item. It is my favorite everyday baby carrier for multiple reasons. 1. It's very compact, I can easily fit it in my diaper bag with plenty of room to spare. 2. The material is very breathable which is great for those hot summer months - typically when you would most frequently wear your baby. 3. It can help soothe baby during fussy moments. 4. Most importantly, it helps you establish a close bond with your baby early on. Baby wearing may not be for every mama out there. However, for me it is the perfect solution for allowing me to complete all of duties in my busy schedule, while still remaining close and connected to my baby. #momentsofmamahood #MofMFridayswithKelsee #onasaturday #mofmproductreview #sollybaby #babyapproved #babyproductreview #babywearing #MofMreview #motherhood #MofMreviews #mommylifestyle — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2MiWArT

Baby First Walk and A Day In The Park!
Yesterday we took JJ for his first walk in the park. At first we couldn’t decide whether to take him in the buggy on in the solly wrap. In the end we went for the stroller and took the Quinny Speedi. We had initially thought that we wouldn’t use this stroller for a while but we found that it was actually fairly suitable for babies. We put JJ in it and he fell asleep almost straight away. He spent almost of all the time he was in his seat alseep. He loved the fresh air. we did take the sollybaby wrap with us just in case but he was content in the buggy we didn’t need to use it. and so did his sister. She loved the seat in the buggy. She refused to sleep instead she spent her time gazing at the things around her and pointing at things.

We’ve been having some really amazing weather here. It’s been in the mid-20′s all week so we’ve all been plastering on the sunscreen. Because of the lovely weather we headed to the park close to our flat. It was a lovely day so we had a picnic and relaxed on the park. Milena played on the mat whilst JJ fed and slept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We took plenty supplies with us, not just food and water. We took some of Milena’s toys and JJ’s bobby pillow for him. We also took a large bottle of special kids sunscreen. We didn’t want them to get burnt or poorly.
She played with her daddy and dozed too. Our day was so nice. The children had such a good time. They’re both very small so they can’t do much but it was nice for us to have a day out as a family. Hopefully the summer will continue this way and we can spend more days at the park, enjoying the the sunshine and each other.
Love,

Super Mama Series: Kristy Malik
Welcome to the Super Mama Series! I created this as a way to showcase actual messy-but-beautiful lives of women who are mothers and live creatively. By no means are any of us perfect, but we are striving to do our very best. Super Mamas are women who mother sacrificially, love deeply, and acknowledge their weaknesses gracefully.
Meet Super Mama Kristy Malik. Kristy has been happily married for 11 years to her college sweetheart and doing her best to raise (4, soon to be 5) little humans to love others and live the life they were created for. She is a wanna-be photographer, coffee and dark chocolate lover. She is also the Regional Area Coordinator for Walking with Purpose women's ministry.
ON MOTHERHOOD
"I find myself thinking how everyone is someone's son or daughter in this world. It helps me to empathize and be more compassionate towards others when I find myself feeling not so inclined. Being a mother has taught me that I am capable of more than I thought I could ever be. It has also taught me that the more I think I know, the less I actually know.
Seeing things "click" in my children's hearts and minds [is so rewarding]. I love when their world opens a little more and you see their horizons widen in front of you. Whether it's a new song my preschooler has learned, my Kindergartener learning to tie his shoes, my 5th grader finally grasping decimal division, or my 2nd grader finding her love for books and wanting to read nightly to her little brothers.
[Before becoming pregnant, know that] you don't have to let strangers touch your belly. Have no shame about asking for help. If you need it, ask. And, yes, you will need it. My best advice-- when in doubt, go with your gut. Worst advice usually begins with "back in my day..."
Best baby item purchase I made: a baby wrap! I only discovered them with my 4th and wish I had one for my previous babies. It was so much more comfortable and natural to wear than our other baby carriers and my son loved it. When I couldn't nurse for as long as I wanted with him, it really helped us to bond, especially while I was chasing after his 3 older siblings. I had the Moby wrap with him which was perfect since he was born in late fall. For this baby, I got the lighter Sollybaby wrap. Sure there are common items that lots of moms love and swear by (Baby wraps! Portable swing! Tommie Tippee bottles! Mamaroo (so I've heard)!) and I always love hearing what other moms love. But at the end of the day, every mom has different needs, and different babies. And really, babies don't need that much "stuff." If it looks like something that will help you and your baby, then go for it. If not, don't sweat it!"
ON THE WORK LIFE JUGGLE
"We got pregnant with our oldest within our first month of marriage. We were the first couple in our group of (mostly unmarried) friends to get married, let alone have a child. I always felt like it was right for us though, and my husband and I were always supportive of each other when we each felt we needed a coffee break with friends or a night out. I also continued to work part time from home after our first child so always felt connected to "the outside world" those first few years. I've been able to work part time from home since then, most recently with a women's ministry that is amazing. I love everything they are about and find the work very fulfilling. It's only a few hours a week but helps me feel connected to other women, and with a cause that I'm passionate about.
My husband and I have been through various seasons of managing responsibilities. Depending on his job situation (long hours/traveling) or my situation (whether pregnant/sick, working part time etc.) we communicate where we need help. Our responsibilities are primarily stereotypical, it just works for us. He enjoys helping the kids with their homework at night which I love, and does some of the after school activity driving, which I also love! Oh and he always does the bills. Always. We learned that the hard way very early on in our marriage. (Not my gift!)
"Communicate communicate communicate."
During this season of pregnancy #5 I've been particularly sick and tired. I've found that going over my calendar with him for the week and identifying potential times when I know I'll be tired and may need help is great. As a Type-A worrier, I need to talk through everything and he likes knowing how he can help specifically. He's also a wonderful problem solver. It's a win-win.
I currently love the BabyBump app, but also my Instagram, Facebook, The Target Cartwheel app, and the Waze app. Twenty20 is also a fun photography app I love.
A current challenge would be making time for myself amid our busy schedule and working part time from home. I got a new planner for Christmas and I've found that sitting down to carve out down time has been instrumental. I'm a much happier and a better mom when I leave myself some margin!"
ON SELF CARE
"Nowadays, [I spend alone time] sleeping! But usually reading up on news with a cup of coffee or tea, or calling a friend to catch up.
[Amidst chaos I stick to] daily prayer for sure. My day doesn't go as well if I don't! After that exercise for 20 min if possible (lately that happens only 2-3x/week).
[My beauty routine] consists of doTERRA's Verage skincare line, Bareminerals foundation serum, Honest Company Eyeliner and mascara, and Burts Bees tinted lip balm. Usually [wearing] leggings and a tunic dress, sometimes with a long vest or sweater, suede booties."
ON FAMILY TIME
"[We loved] travelling to Southern California. We've been there to visit our family a few times and each time flying with kids gets easier. The jet lag is always a challenge but we've learned to let the kids stay up as late as they want that first night so we aren't all up at 4 am the next day. (Even late night ice cream trips to keep them awake!) We love exploring different neighborhoods and areas. The kids love the beach. Having family there lets us feel like locals while still getting to play tourists.
On a perfect Saturday, we all sleep in until 8 or 9. My husband makes pancakes while we stay in pajamas for the morning. Then we either go out for lunch, to a park, or a movie as a family, or visit a winery or brewery with friends or neighbors. In the summer, having friends/family/neighbors over a for a nighttime fire pit with s'mores and good food!
Every night at dinner we go around the table and share "High/Low" where everyone shares the best part and worst part of their day. It almost always starts off great conversations with our kids about things we otherwise wouldn't know.
[Kids books we're loving]: Secret Pizza Party (only recently- my preschooler laughs hysterically every time), One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and White Rabbit's Color Book.
[This week] we FaceTimed my husband during dinner so he could participate in "High/Low" while he was traveling for work."

It was such a pleasure meeting everyone today at @sollybabywrap event! 🎉 I came with my bag of tricks, but all of you are such pros at baby-wearing as is! It's amazing how the motherhood world has changed since I had my first baby! Strollers looked different, kangaroo care was such a novelty and baby wraps were unheard of ( really) . I remember people asking "is there a baby just inside of your shirt?!" 😹 And now look at all the mamas and little babies, listening to mama's heart beats! 💞💞💞 you, guys, inspire!

You may have noticed over the past several blog post that my stomach was growing a bit in size. Well, my belly is no longer growing, and we now have a new family member to join us on adventures. While we’re not quite ready to hit the trail with him yet, these past two weeks have been an adventure of their own, filled with trials & errors, late nights awake, and mastering the art of eating while holding a wiggly 8 lb. bear.
I’m not planning on making this blog about him now, but I will occasionally be sharing the adventures we go on with him, as well as the gear we use. While I was pregnant, I had a hard time finding blogs or articles that share how to best adventure with a baby that aren’t about car camping or staying in hotels.
We want to go backpacking with him, and on long hikes, and show him the wilderness and states and countries that we love to explore. So if I can share how we do those adventures – the upsides and downfalls, the trial and errors – and help another family explore the outdoors, then I want to do it. And I want to hear from you guys with kids (or who lovingly hike with you friends who have kids!) what works, what gear to get, and what trails to explore.
Our first two weeks have been mostly about exploring each other, building a routine and learning his preferences. Our biggest adventures have been long walks into the heart of our neighborhood, and car rides to visit family members. We’ve had to throw out a lot of our intentions (No pacifiers until they’re a month old!) for what makes practical sense for our family and our sanity. Each day with him has been amazing, and we grow more obsessed with him every single day.
With that in mind, here are the items that have been Must Have’s for us in his first two weeks home.
Source.
UppaBaby Cruz Stroller with Bassinet Attatchment. This stroller is seriously amazing. It rolls and steers incredibly well with just one hand, has ample storage space underneath, and navigates our neighborhood’s shitty sidewalks and roads with ease – and without waking him up. We bought the bassinet accessory because I love the feel of a traditional pram, and it has also doubled as his bed when we’re downstairs in our house. It’s so easy to put him in it after a feeding and wheel him around. It let’s us watch him while we cook dinner in the kitchen, then easily move him to beside the dining room table while we eat, and let him rest while we’re in my office/his nursery. We went with the navy colour. It makes me feel chic.
Source. *Note: this is not me, nor is this my baby.
Sollybaby Wrap. I’d read all of the benefits of baby-wearing, and this thing is a lifesaver. It lets you wrap the fabric around yourself so it can accomodate a baby of any size. Awesome for skin-to-skin contact and for staying handsfree. I’m literally wearing my child right now as I work on this post, because he is happiest when he is tucked tight against me. In the past two weeks while wearing him, I’ve been able to get work done, get our taxes 90% done (something I didn’t knock out until August of last year, btw), eat meals with both hands like a real person, and read a book. Sure, he may have gotten a few crumbs dropped on his head during the baby-wearing process, but I don’t think he cares. I want like, 2 more for when one is dirty. Also, this is a product from a small business, so I feel good supporting them.
DockATot. I know the AAP advises against co-sleeping. And we never intended to co-sleep with him. But after 3 days of me staying up until 4am with him only sleeping/not crying if he was laying on my chest, I caved. I started off with a co-sleeper a friend had lent us, then ordered the DockATot impulsively around 4am for a permanant solution. It’s expensive – yes. But we love it. It has a slight incline which helps with his reflux, an incredibly stable base and sidewalls that make him feel snug and make us feel safe with him between us. We’ve upped the safety of having him between us by swapping out our king size comforter for two twin comforters (thanks Ikea!) so we don’t run the risk of pulling the covers over him. Bonus: Matt & I are also no longer fighting over who stealing the covers! [Use this link for $10 off. Because they’re pricey, but so worth it.]
Source. *Note: this is not my baby.
Halo SleepSack Swaddle. We got pretty good at swaddling, but it’s tough to keep him wrapped up since he is the world’s wriggliest baby. And during the late-night feedings, it was exhausting trying to swaddle him after changing, feeding, changing him. One of my girlfriend’s had her baby in a SleepSack Swaddle and sang it’s praises so I bought one. Now I wish I had 5. I zip him in the sack, then velcro the wings across him as loose or tight as he needs. We let him have access to his hands, and he sleeps so comfortably. Plus, it’s helping us train him for a sleepsack when he gets bigger, since AAP recommends no blankets, only a tight-fitting sheet in their sleeping area.
My Breast Friend. A feeding pillow that offers back support, clips on so I don’t have to support it, and keeps him on a flat surface so I don’t worry about him rolling into my body uncomfortably. I had Matt grab this for me and bring it back to the hospital and it’s amazing how much easier it makes feeding.
Source. Note: This is not my baby.
Gathre Micro Mat. I ordered a few of these to use as changing pads for when we’re on the go, plus a mini size for under the highchair when he gets big enough. We use the mini as a permanant changing pad kept upstairs (because going downstairs to change a diaper at 3am sucks), and I’ve used my micro in several places already – public restroom, my dad’s automotive shop, my grandparent’s coffee table. It folds up tiny, wipes clean with a baby wipe, and they’re waterproof. They look pretty too. Plus, I’m supporting a small business when I buy them and I love that.
Also, the Maxi would be a perfect picnic blanket and it folds up pretty small. So even if you don’t have kids, this mat would be awesome to have.
So here you have it: my essentials for surviving the first two weeks post-hospital of parenthood. Any recommendations for what I’ll need for the next two months?
Our Latest Adventure You may have noticed over the past several blog post that my stomach was growing a bit in size.
