#so what is it that Tommy has that Eddie doesn’t - why would buck choose a version of Eddie over the actual Eddie?

To use the word Hell was such a choice - like there was no need to use it - Tim could of just saud ‘who he is’ or some such.
But no he chose to use the word hell.
Hell as in heaven and hell. As in religion. As in we’ve been setting up an arc where Eddie has to reckon with his catholic faith (lapsed). That reckoning is a key part of who he is and his religion has always told him that gay = going to hell.
So Eddie figuring out who the hell he is means Eddie having to figure out what hell actually looks like to him and if that version of hell is better or worse than the version of hell Catholicism has created.
#Eddie realising buck is central to his life and his happiness when he doesn’t have him as easily available#but that Eddie isn’t perhaps as central to bucks life#and how that is what hell looks like to Eddie#and if that’s what he’ll looks like to him - a world without buck - what does that mean for him#who does that make him#if he no longer has Christopher to hide behind and he is then faced with reckoning with what else makes up his life#only to find Buck is also not as present because Tommy is there and Tommy is a version of#so what is it that Tommy has that Eddie doesn’t - why would buck choose a version of Eddie over the actual Eddie?#and if Tommy is another version of him then maybe Buck actually wants Eddie but Eddie isn’t gay#but Tommy came out when he was older - and Tommy is like him so maybe Eddie is like Tommy as well and isn’t as straight as he thought#and maybe if Eddie isn’t as straight as he thought then maybe who he is is a gay man#and if he’s a gay man then maybe his reltionship with Shannon didn’t work because it wasn’t meant to#because he loved her but it was always so hard and they never had each others backs#but buck has always had his back and buck hs always stepped up and helped and things are easy with him#it’s a real partnership and it fulfills him and he didn’t know that or how much until Buck isn’t there because he’s dating someone who is#a version of Eddie. someone who can give buck the only thing Eddie hasn’t been able to give buck#because Eddie has given him everything else - and buck hs given Eddie everything else#but if Eddie’s gay then he and buck can give each other the one thing that’s missing#but Eddie’s too late. excuse Tommy is there where Eddie should be#so maybe if he goes back to the church he can find a way to get over it - get over Buck and be happy for him#and maybe if he does that he’ll be a better person and then Chris will come home to him#but maybe if buck knows Eddie is an option because Eddie is gay- then if things don’t work out with Tommy buck will choose Eddie.#maybe maybe maybe#Eddie’s spiral in tags 😬#911 spoilers#eddie diaz#911 abc#evan buckley#anti bucktommy#Tommy is Eddie lite

Okay but picture this a couple of eps into s8 Eddie shows up at bucks all happy I mean downright giddy and just BLABBING but we the audience can see buck looks sad but we don’t know what about (and Eddie doesn’t notice at first cos yapping) then Eddie reveals the reason he’s so happy is cos Chris wants to come back and basically being like pack your bags we are driving to Texas (according to Google it’s an 11hr and 49 minute drive and also Eddie canonically just assumes buck would be involved cos why wouldn’t he) and obviously when he says the Chris coming back thing we see buck instantly brighten up
But then Eddie’s brain catches up and he’s like wait a minute what was up with his vibe before I said that and he looks around realising the loft is in ‘buck is sad’ mode and then buck drops that him and Tommy just broke up and before he asks that he doesn’t wanna talk about it (and we the audience hadn’t seen this so we spend the ep as much in the dark as Eddie is) so Eddie (while concealing his conflicted happy bt are done but concerned for buck emotions) is like even better we’ll take your mind off it with the road trip! 🤩
Maybe Buck tries to be like oh I’m not gonna be good company or oh I don’t wanna impose and Eddie’s just looking at him like he grew two heads and is like what are you on about you dumbass (affectionate) I literally always want your company and you never impose
And boom it’s a Texas road trip episode
Shenanigans ensue on the way to get there maybe, flat tires, people needing help, etc
Maybe they stop at motel on the way cos it’s a long drive or cos of one of the little things that happen (and there is only one bed <- damn who said that???) and they go to a bar (preferably cowboy bar for cowboy hat Eddie reasons- and when I say cowboy bar I use that loosely because the vibes we want is save a horse, ride a cowboy not be gay, get shot - we are a pink pony club not republican club) and buck is acting weird the whole trip but they’re still their drunk affectionate selves but there is a vibe that we and Eddie are both meant to think is cos of the breakup, maybe buck even gets hit on and drunk buck is a yapper and starts talking abt loving a guy who’s never gonna love him, etc, etc and Eddie overhears and thinks it’s tommy and hello complicated feelings again
As the trip goes on buck starts getting more at ease
Eddie is still concerned tho
Buckley Diaz family reunion and all the feels
And this is when you guys get to choose your story:
Either once buck and Eddie go home and they have a moment that’s like their usual ones (very romantic but gaslighting is saying it’s platonic) and when buck is alone we get a flashback to the bt breakup and its revealed that buck has feelings for Eddie (whether that is realised during the breakup or he broke up with tommy cos he realised etc)
Orrr
Diaz parents being dickheads, we get a will mention AND an Eddie confession that is overheard by buck, (then either buck acts on it before the ep is over or we are left on a question mark) AND THEN we get the flashback

I find the basketball scene in 7x04 Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered to be quite funny as someone who has played basketball for 10+ years.
The main thing I find funny is, why are Eddie and Buck guarding each other?
Not only is Buck a little bit taller than Eddie, he’s also quite a bit more built than his best friend. Eddie, if we take into consideration Buck’s “you’re the fastest runner” line and that he must of been playing for years as he’s been asking Buck to join him to this basketball pickup game since he’s moved to LA, would be quite a scrappy player with experience. Meaning he would be quite difficult to guard. As with Buck having enough distaste for basketball, and doesn’t play at all means his skills are low.
Not to mention with Buck’s built and height, he should be playing post (down by the hoop), not point guard (bringing the ball up and demanding the offensive moves for the team). Whereas Eddie would be more of your point guard/guard player.
Usually before the ball is in play, teams will discuss quickly who they are guarding so no player is left open for easy basket on the first play. This will lead to guards usually choosing another guard player to guard and post players will guard a post player.
Making this clip pretty interesting because why is Buck, an inexperienced player, bringing the ball up (yes I know it’s a silly little pickup game but usually sports players are a competitive bunch 9 times out of 10) and trying to maneuver the ball with a behind the back move?? And Eddie just swoops in with easy because oh, I don’t know… he’s actually good at basketball and his ball handing skills. (Stop with you dirty thoughts folks)
If anything, Buck and Tommy should be guarding each other as they match up in built and height. Making them an equal match up… but they aren’t?
Which leads me to think…
What if as the new subs are brought in during the time out (Chimney and Buck), Eddie was like “Aye I got Buck!” immediately, and no one fought him for it.
There isn’t even a single scene where they are being guard by anybody else. Even after Buck gets screened by Tommy, he still caught up the slack to continue to guard Eddie instead of the smart decision of switching players with whoever was guarding Tommy.
But those two just need to be together even if it’s playing opposite of another. Getting all sweaty and up close with each other- don’t get me started on if we got a boxing out scene (which is when you use your butt and push it into you opponents front as you continue to push them backwards for a better shot at retrieving the ball after a miss shot).
All in all,
Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz really wanted to guard his best friend Evan “Buck” Buckley which is the gayest thing a “straight” guy could do.
#911#911 abc#911 season 7#911 7x04#evan buck buckley#evan buckley#eddie diaz#buddie#buck x eddie#just let me do my daily overthinking#I just found this funny because the realistic part of me is like why?? that don’t make sense

idk I get incredibly angry at homophobes being cast on my gay shows. anybody want the start of my fic where Eddie dumps her bigoted ass and then has a gay ole sexy time with his husband and his husband's new boyfriend? because here. you can have. it's cathartic 💕
test drive - 2K, BuckTommy, BuckEddieTommy, Buddie endgame forever / Explicit
The restaurant is dimly lit in a way that might be classy and romantic, but Tommy’s hand is also on Buck’s thigh. And he’s having a lot of very not-classy, not even very romantic sorts of thoughts. Everything is far more along the lines of, he could put his hand on my dick, and I know what his cock feels like down my throat, and why are we here in a public place when we could be back at my loft taking turns fucking each other until we’re both a mess of cum and lube and sweat and sexy bruises and love bites? Because all of that is way more appealing than what they are sitting here, waiting to do.
If it were just one of their dates, it’d be great. Those are fantastic. Tommy likes to pick him up and take him to nice places and he smiles in a really, really soft cute way that also has an air of, I am going to fuck you until you scream and you will love every second. And holy fucking god, does Buck love every second.
Bisexuality, man. Who knew?
It’s so fantastic. It’s so different? Or maybe it’s just that Tommy is different because he’s ridiculously cool and hot and Buck always really liked when someone knew what they wanted and would take the lead and he could do everything in his power to please them and make them feel good. Confidence is infinitely sexy and competence even more so. And Tommy has all of that in spades.
And Buck loves men. Buck really loves men. It makes so much sense and how had he never even considered? Maybe he considered but he sure as hell never realized wanting a man and being attracted to a man was something that fit so well. Fuck, it fits so well.
Maybe he could even end up with a man someday? Maybe he could marry a man and have a relationship that is like this all the time for the rest of his life? Not that he doesn’t like women still. Women are great. People who don’t identify as either or they identify as both or however they choose— they’re great, too.
Everyone is hot and Evan Buckley is very bisexual, and it just might be one of the greatest revelations he’s ever had.
He’s just really, really enjoying being with a man right now.
He is not, however, enjoying the thought of this dinner. Everything about this dinner makes his stomach a washing machine of anxiety. For no reason. He doesn’t know why. There’s nothing wrong with it.
Why wouldn’t he and his boyfriend go on a double date with his best friend who is their mutual friend, and his best friend’s girlfriend. What is wrong with that? It’s fine. Should be— fun?
Shouldn’t be a bad taste in his mouth that the wine still hasn’t gotten rid of and roiling in his stomach that is really killing his appetite. But it very much is.
Tommy squeezes Buck’s thigh and rubs it in a way that surely is supposed to be comforting. But it makes Buck want to drag him out of this restaurant and back to the loft where he can show Tommy how good he is at fucking him now. Not just because it would be a thousand times better than the prospect of this dinner. The bar is so low on the ground, it’s buried at this point. But also because sex with his new boyfriend is better than— actually, Buck is having a hard time thinking of anything that is better right now.
Very hard time.
They’ve been practicing. Everything. Blowjobs, fucking, fingering, ball massages, prostate milking, rimming— all sorts of really fun things Buck never even imagined could feel so good. Not that he was oblivious to a lot of it. He has toys. His ex was into pegging. Buck might have been unaware of how intense and gay— well, bi. He’s bi now. Buck is bi now. Probably always was but he knows it now. He’s bisexual.— his attraction to men could be. But he was not unaware of sexual acts that feel good to his body.
But it’s totally different with a real man and a real cock and being manhandled by someone who might actually be bigger and stronger than you is really fucking hot.
He checks his watch again and it’s already 7:28. They’re almost half an hour late. Which is so not like Eddie. He’s not sure if Marisol is like that but he knows for sure Eddie is either fifteen minutes early for everything or he texts if there is a problem. Even then, he’s only ever a few minutes late. If that. And last Buck checked, there were no new messages on his phone.
He checks again, and still nothing. Not even to Buck’s message of, hey u ok? u on the way? He frowns and sets his phone back on the table and turns to Tommy. “How long before I’m allowed to be really worried?”
Tommy gives him an amused smile. “You can be worried.”
“How long before we need to bother Athena? Ten more minutes? Five? Sh-should I bother Athena now?”
Tommy’s eyebrows scrunch and he looks at Buck like he’s crazy. Okay, it’s probably crazy. Just. He’s worried? That must be the churning in his stomach. “I’m sure Eddie’s fine. It hasn’t been that long. And he’s Eddie.”
Yeah. Yeah, he’s Eddie. But Eddie was also shot downtown in the middle of broad daylight and nearly bled out all over, and there’s not much anyone can do even if they are trained in hand to hand combat and self-defense and those kinds of things. Not many ways to defend against a sniper round that shouldn’t even be a thing.
Not that Buck is thinking about that. Ever.
He’s just turning into a washing machine over this dinner. That’s all.
Five minutes later, some of it finally eases when Eddie finally shows up and sits down across from them. Alone.
Alone?
“Sorry, guys,” Eddie runs a hand through his hair and breathes like he’s run a hundred miles. He’s hardly been looking distressed at all lately. He’s been glowing smiles and pretty laughs. Not pretty. Nice? Good? Good that he’s so much happier and at peace.
But he’s not that now.
“I would’ve—” Eddie checks his own watch, one that was a Christmas present that Buck had engraved with, all the time you need, and must realize how late he actually is. “Fuck. Sorry. Really sorry. I’ll buy? Unless you’ve already eaten and paid and are about to leave.”
Tommy shakes his head and has that nice smile that’s so reassuring. “We haven’t. Don’t worry about it.”
“We were waiting,” Buck adds and itches to ask him what’s wrong, why he’s late, why he looks— like he isn’t okay.
“Great.” Eddie nods tersely and it sounds anything but great. “They got anything stronger than wine and cocktails here? Because—” He doesn’t say. But he does make a face the conveys everything.
“Doubt it,” Tommy says. “But we can get something somewhere else. Is Mar— Mari?”
“Marisol,” Buck supplies. Not that it matters. Not that he cares. Is he supposed to care? There’s nothing wrong with her. She’s fine.
“Right,” Tommy says, which should say everything. Eddie’s been hanging out with Tommy for months, Buck’s been with Tommy for months, and Tommy is pretty damn good at remembering people’s names. “Marisol. Is she still on the way?”
Eddie’s jaw gets very tight. “No. We’re done.”
Tommy looks at Buck and Buck looks at Tommy. They’re done? They broke up? Not that it’s particularly surprising. Part of the curse of dating someone you met on a call. Gotta be. Also the whole thing where Eddie has some kind of commitment issues or something because as soon as he gets a girlfriend, he has to spend all his time doing anything besides being with said girlfriend.
“So, drinking?” Tommy says.
Buck pushes his wine glass across the table. They usually share when they eat together. Drinks, food, anything. And he’s happy to offer it to the cause.
“Yes, drinking.” Eddie takes Buck’s wine and downs all of it.
Eddie’s single again. Marisol isn’t coming to dinner and she’s not part of their lives any longer. Not that Buck has a problem with her. She’s fine. She was nothing really. That wasn’t going to last. Eddie likes the idea of being with someone. So he says. He’s allergic to actually having a relationship for some reason.
The washing machine in Buck’s stomach disappears though. Which is so much better. Now, it’s just Buck hanging out with his best friend and his boyfriend.
Maybe there’s a little washing machine. It’s nothing though.
They order food and drinks, and Eddie only goes through a couple shots and three glasses of wine and one beer. But he eats and also drinks water and doesn’t seem inebriated at all. So, they focus on the meal and Tommy’s latest work stories of helicopter rescues.
It’s not until after Buck discreetly hands their waiter his credit card before they’re actually brought the bill, that Eddie actually starts talking.
“I kind of fucked up. Didn’t mean to. I owe you an apology,” he says and looks at Buck with worlds of regret and sorrow.
Whatever it is, Buck forgives him. He’s sure he’s done far worse than whatever it is. “Why? What, uh, what happened?”
Eddie doesn’t look at him. Or Tommy. He does shake his head but not like he’s saying no. More like he’s disgusted. “I let it slip that you two are— that you’re. Dating. Together. Boyfriends? Do you call each other that? Are you boyf— never mind, I let it slip. I’m sorry. That was my bad. Not my secret to tell.”
Tommy looks scrunched and confused again and Buck— he doesn’t understand what the problem is? No, he hasn’t told many people yet. But it’s not a secret that he and Tommy are together.
“Eds,” Buck says and immediately thinks he probably shouldn’t have called him that. He doesn’t know why. But he shouldn’t. “It’s fine. I’m not— It’s not a secret. I’m not hiding. Or— or in the closet? I’m out. Now. I’m bi and—” And he’s really happy about that. He really loves it. He’s bisexual. He loves women and men and whoever regardless of gender. And holy shit, does he love men right now. He really, really loves being with a man. He looks to his side and grins brightly at Tommy. “And I’m not ashamed or embarrassed that Tommy and I are together.”
There’s a cute half smile that curves the side of Tommy’s mouth and Buck so wants to kiss him. And do all sorts of other things with him.
“Well. Good.” Eddie taps his finger on an empty shot glass like he’s contemplating ordering another. “Still. Didn’t go well. Didn’t mean to out you like that.”
“Didn’t go well?” Tommy asks. “Saying that Evan and I are dating didn’t go well?”
Eddie purses his lips and does a slow, exaggerated shake of his head. “Nope. But at least I learned that now. Has the waiter brought our check yet? Because I’m just going to drink more if I don’t head out soon. Not that I’m sad about her or anything. I’m pissed. You think you know someone, and no. No, she’s a raging homophobe.”
She— oh. Oh, that’s what happened. “She broke up with you because we’re gay? Bi and gay? Or— you know what I mean.” Is Tommy gay? Or bi? Or something else? Buck hasn’t actually asked what label he uses. How he qualifies his sexuality. He felt weird asking. It’s so personal. Is he supposed to ask? All he knows is that Tommy was into him. Tommy kissed him and it was breathtaking, incredible, magnificent and changed Buck’s whole life. He didn’t really think anything beyond that. Couldn’t really think beyond that.
Eddie definitively points at himself and then at phantom nothingness. “I dumped her. Because I said this was a double date with you guys and she said, well not really, and I said, no really. It’s a double date. Her and me and both of you. Double date. Except not her. Ever. Anymore. Because she had to go off about how it was wrong and made her uncomfortable and I ‘let both of you be alone with Christopher?’ And it couldn’t possibly be a date like me and her would go on a date because she’s a woman and I’m a man and that was normal. But you two are both men. Both muscular, powerful, masculine, manly firemen type men— so it could never be the same especially because neither one of you are flamey or girly or whatever, so it could never work, the two of you since neither one of you is ‘The Girl.’ Which is all bullshit. By the way. Obviously. And,” he finally stops and breathes, and there’s a hard swallow in his throat and his eyes are distant and his whole body is strung tight and if he could breathe fire? He probably would. Holy shit, he’s pissed off. Buck isn’t even sure he’s ever seen Eddie this angry at anyone who hasn’t hurt someone he loves.
Although. Technically she did? Not hurt per se, Buck doesn’t give a shit about what she thinks of him. But she was insulting them. So. Yeah, okay, of course fiercely protective Eddie would be angry.
“And anyway,” Eddie says, still never quite looking at Buck or even at Tommy. Never quite focusing on them. “That’s how I’m single and back on the market again.” He smiles a wide, bitter, snarky kind of smile, and steals the half-full beer glass in front of Buck and downs it in one gulp.

What do you think the chances are that BT is actually endgame
Thank you for the interesting question Nonny. 😊
I've had some time to think about this and honestly?
Zero chances.
If you had asked me this question right after episode 7x04 had aired, I would have hesitated to answer this. I would have maybe said that there was a 20% chance, because we didn’t really know in what way they would develop Tommy as a character. The main question was whether or not he would only stay as a part of Buck’s arc or if he would get his own storyline.
Having watched the rest of season 7 and knowing what we know now? I can confidently say: ‘Nah, not a chance.’
And there are many reasons why I’m so confident about it:
The way that 7x04 was in essence not about Tommy at all, but all about Eddie. It was confirmed that this episode was shot from Buck’s point of view, so that makes it even more obvious that he was very conflicted on Eddie’s new friendship with Tommy and how Eddie almost seemed to shut him out of that friendship. Even more, Tommy essentially took Eddie out on ‘dates’ and I can’t help but wonder if subconsciously Buck was afraid that Eddie would be interested in Tommy instead of him. He then, in true Buck-style, proceeded to do some foolish things and got his emotions all mixed up. Tommy saw a chance and took it by kissing Buck.
And I’m sure Buck liked that kiss and developed a crush on Tommy. Otherwise he wouldn’t have made an effort to reconnect with him after that failed date. So I’m not saying Tommy doesn’t matter to him or doesn’t have an important part in his story. All I’m saying is that Tommy was basically the wrong guy at the right time.
The interview Tim did about Tommy wasn’t all that promising either. In it he said something about not expecting wedding bells for them and that it was just an entry level relationship. In other words he was warning the audience to not get too attached, because Tommy wasn’t sticking around. At the same time it was revealed by Lou that he was only going to do a few episodes and that originally he was supposed to kiss Eddie. Which is interesting, because it tells us that they were discussing getting Eddie out of that closet. But ultimately they decided on Buck first. Which was the better way to go in my opinion.
Tommy was hardly in the rest of season 7. The main reason for that was that he was introduced as a plot device in Buck’s narrative arc and he fulfilled that function just fine. Basically he only showed up to further Buck’s storyline and that was it. Even that hospital kiss was in function of having Buck come out to his family without making a big deal about it.
He also wasn’t always portrayed as the nicest guy who we should all root for.
First Tim made the decision to choose the man who made Chimney and Hen’s lives worse when they started out at the 118. Which is an odd choice if you ask me. Why would you choose the guy who was obviously a bully to become another character’s love interest? The answer to that question is easy: Because you want to make sure that people remember that this -on the surface- seemingly nice and agreeable guy who helped Hen to save Bathena, has kind of a shady past.
And this showed again and again in the show itself. The way Tommy abandoned Buck during a date and left him standing on the sidewalk as he drove off? The way he was always dismissive of Buck’s interests and used this very sarcastic -almost negative- humour on moments when Buck really could have used some support. Don’t even talk to me about that scene in the finale where he once again deflected Buck’s worry by making THAT joke at such a bad time.
I know deleted scenes aren’t really canon, but -in my opinion- they released that Tommy & Henren scene to, once again show us that Tommy really isn’t invested in his relationship with Buck. The fact that Hen and Karen were suspicious and didn’t trust him, is also notable. We as the audience were meant to see and share their concern.
The way that Oliver doesn’t acknowledge the relationship either speaks for itself. He has once said that he stopped talking about Buddie because, at that time it wasn’t an option because of FOX, and he didn’t want to lead people on.
Right before season 7 Oliver started talking Buddie to everyone who wanted to listen. There was so much promo with Ryan as well. But he never mentioned BT as anything that has a future. He mostly talks about Buck’s bisexuality and leaves Tommy out of it. He doesn’t engage with anything BT related. So to me, there is the possibility that he doesn’t want to lead people on.
The few times he did talk about Tommy it was in the same way he talked about Taylor and Natalia. Generic things to keep people interested, but we all know what happened to Taylor and Natalia, so…
The way the show does absolutely no promo for BT whatsoever is also very obvious. If they had really wanted to push BT, they would have made Oliver and Lou do extensive promo through interviews, photo shoots, magazine articles… all of the things to get them noticed. Kinda like with the actors that play TK and Carlos on Lone Star. There was none of that for BT. Yeah, one single really awkward interview where they didn’t even talk more than a minute about the show. That doesn’t count.
Oliver did do quite a lot of interviews after 7x04, but all of those were centred around Buck’s bisexuality. Tommy was hardly even mentioned. You know who was mentioned in those interviews? Eddie. A lot of these interviewers asked about the chances of Buddie happening. I think Oliver navigated those questions really well, not giving anything away, but at the same time hinting that there was a chance there if the story was told right.
Personally, I am convinced that Oliver and Ryan got the get-go on Buddie last season. But they were also told that the road towards Buddie wouldn’t be linear. They threw a new male love interest into the mix to help Buck realise some things about himself. And I do believe that season 8 will be about Eddie’s personal journey to figuring out who he is and figuring out his sexuality. I don’t think they will give Eddie a new love interest though. I think they might just make him realise he feels more for Buck than friendship and that will be the beginning of him questioning all of his life choices.
As for Tommy? I can see him in another episode or 2 in season 8, to close the arc for Buck’s narrative. But I don’t expect anything more than that.
However which way you turn it, the story will always end up with Buddie together.
Okay, now will everyone please remember that this is only my opinion and my own point of view. None of this is set in stone. This is the way I think it might go. But it could turn out different in many ways. The only thing I’m almost absolutely certain about is that BT isn’t going to last very long in season 8 and that the end goal will always be Buddie.
Also, don’t come into my inbox to hate on me over this. This is literally me talking and speculating about fictional characters on a TV-show. It isn’t all that deep. These people aren’t real. I’m allowed to have opinions about them, even if those opinions go against all of your opinions. If you don’t like reading this, just move on and go read posts that you do agree with. Life is too short to get angry and frustrated over the love life of fictional characters that live in a fictional world. Thank you.

911 8x07 Hotshots
This episode didn’t give me much to work with, so it’s not really a meta post but something in between with my personal opinion. Mostly about Buck.
First of all I want to say that Tim commenting fandom through FlashRob and Hotshots - nice move. Also Bobby storyline - awesome! Love it! So much fun!
BUCK: Too many baking scenes for my taste. 3 time reminder can be a little annoying, but… I thought about it in context to the lightning strike and Brad saying his character is in a coma. Buck knows calling Tommy is wrong, because deep down it’s not Tommy he misses but how comfortable in his own skin he felt and of course the rush of new relationship which allowed him to explore his sexuality. So yes, baking is about Buck not understanding what his next move should be in terms of being bi. The line about which pond to jump into is the quintessence of his dilemma, the core of falling into baking string. Tommy didn’t teach him anything, didn’t show him queer spaces, didn’t introduce him to people who would make Buck feel more sure/comfortable about his sexuality. Buck didn’t seem to need it, because he felt comfortable with Tommy, and this is what is drawing him back. It can be scary to take that step alone, and while I have no doubt Buck wouldn’t have a problem flirting with guys, I believe he is stuck at the start line, meaning he doesn’t know which guys he can flirt with. It’s not rocket science, but when you’re sitting alone at home, thinking you want some intimacy with a male friend, you suddenly realize you have no idea what to do, where to look, so it’s natural you miss and seek familiarity. Let’s circle back for a moment. Buck said he doesn’t know which pond to jump into… he didn’t say he doesn’t want to jump at all, or that he’s not ready. And this is why I think his obsessive baking has nothing to do with Tommy and everything to do with his sexuality and understanding himself. He followed an easy path - a guy kissed him (confusing him about his feelings by the way), they got into a relationship and he never analyzed it too deeply what it meant to him. Now he’s left to figure it out by himself. And here is where coma comes into play. Buck is stuck right now, unsure, a little lost. If you want to go further you can say his world has changed and he has to learn the rules anew (like in his dream). The key to waking up from a coma was to realize that being Buck is enough. Well, it’s still true in terms of his sexuality, and I think that calling himself ‘bisexual’ on screen would be a nice end to his struggle and a nice step forward.
It would be really funny if Buck would figure himself out in the same episode that Brad’s character would wake up from coma.
Another thing about Buck I want to mention is more sweet and Buddie related. The scene in the firehouse, how Eddie steals Buck’s phone, playing hot potato with it. Come on, it’s basically a school puppy courting. If Buck had braids Eddie would be pulling them. And Buck even asked the teacher for help, and Bobby actually had to admonish/tap Eddie to give Buck his phone back. It’s a nice way to show that Buck is not alone, and his family, however savage sometimes, are there for him. It’s also a nice way to show goofy Eddie, the one who tries to be joyful (that little hop over the couch, awww), and it’s easy and natural with Buck. This scene also made me think about what Maddie said: “So does this boy-crush on Eddie mean you’re finally ready to move on from Abby?” I’m probably seeing too much into this, but it makes me happy so… who cares!
Now, I see a lot of people upset about Buck and Eddie being stuck, like there is no progress compared to the last episode. But I think it’s not that bad. These things, figuring yourself out, takes time, and I believe Tim is taking every opportunity to tell their individual stories right. It’s better to drop a few short scenes telling the audience “Buck is struggling, Eddie is choosing joy” than put something more significant into the episode with 2 other big plotlines. I know it feels like Buck and Eddie are on two different paths, parallel to each other, but those paths will meet eventually and we won’t be prepared for that.
We should watch our backs, because something is coming right at us. This is actually the theme of this episode…
Starting with Athena - at that sting operation, when she was told she’ll have a rookie and later when she shares her opinion about him. Gerrard and Bobby have Brad creeping behind them. Eddie get scared by the Chief, and of course his scene with Buck when he gives the phone back (and this one is the closest of them all).
Now… I would ignore it, call it a comic relief if that would happen once or twice (Athena with the rookie, and Bobby with Brad), but seven times? Something’s up… And I have a feeling it's about next episode. Maybe someone's past will catch up to them, or someone will hear something they shouldn't, or not being aware of their surroundings will put them in danger... I don't know, there is something ominous about it. Or you know, I missed something deeper in this episode or this is a message for us, fans, like I said, to watch ourselves because we have no idea what’s coming. Or maybe... someone is watching us...

Rant about my sweet boy Tommy Kinard.
So if you are one of those “OmG JuMp ScArE” or “im blocking you for posting a picture of Tommy”
Just go ahead and scroll or block me, idc.
———————————————
I’m going to start this off by when i first started watching 911 and we shall go from there.
I started watching 911 in 2020 when covid started and it was senior year of high school so we were doing NTI.
I stopped watching it specifically on the episode where they responded to the guy at the car place getting blown up like a balloon.
Why?
Because I couldn’t stand how Buck was treating Eddie.
It was generally pissing me off how Buck was so ‘jealous’ of Eddie in the beginning because he was ‘better’ than him and was able to do things he couldn’t.
Because thats how life is, there is always going to someone who comes into your work space and knows how to do it better than you no matter how long you have worked there.
And yes its a Tv show, i know.
I picked up watching 911 in late 2023 and finished where i left off, so forgive me if what i said wasnt quite accurate.
I literally stopped watching in the middle of that episode and picked right back up in the middle of that episode three years later and never re-watched S1-S2.
I genuinely just forgot i had even started watching it and i knew why i stopped but figured i would give it another try.
I also kept seeing it on my fyp on tik tok and figured i just had to watch his character development.
———-
So what gets me so aggravated about Tommy is when i see and edit of him then it switches to Eddie and i open the comments and everyone is like:
“Omg put a jump scare warning”
“I was abt to block you”
“Ew temu”
“Get him off my screen”
If you dont want to see Tommy then stop watching 911????
When Tommy was introduced in 911 he obviously was an unlikable character.
No one likes a sexist, racist, homophobic.
And I understand why we wouldnt like him.
He was working under Gerrad and we all know how Gerrad is if he were to not follow along with his fellow crew then he would wouldnt of been able to go on calls and would get stuck on cleaning duty.
The whole “he didnt have to follow in their footsteps”
Thats all he could really do back then.
He was introduced as a bad character.
But
Character development.
Haha i like doing the small to big text.
Anyways.
He left the 118 and went to harbor. We had years of not seeing/hearing from him other then that time when Chimney called him.
Obviously he had character development helping Chim.
Dude couldnt stand him in the beginning. Even when Chim carried him out of the building that one time.
So in that time he had time to change his view of things and im sure if was able ro go back in the past and change how he acted he would.
Why?
For Buck.
Both Tommy and Buck had major character development and thats what we like to see!
If we all love Buck now why cant we love Tommy too?
I do hope see Buck learning how Tommy treated Chim and Hen. Yeah Buck will be upset but he will see how Tommy has changed since then.
Gerrad will probably have something to do with that.
Buch changed.
Tommy changed.
——-
People also need to learn
Actor vs character
Lou is NOT Tommy.
He portrays Tommy.
Just because an actor plays a character you dont like doesn’t mean you need to go say hatful things about them.
Lou would never say or do anything racist or sexist.
And if he did/does the internet isnt going to let that slide.
Like come on, we know once something gets said the whole internet will know.
Isnt that right Ryan? (He apologized i know)
And not everyone likes apologies but the thing is people pick and choose if an apology is accepted or not. So either way if someone apologizes it might not even matter in the end.
The internet is going to be the internet.
You dont have to agree with me this was just a rant.
I probably missed somethings i was going to say or maybe i said somethings that are wrong.
Oh well.
——-
Im going to go clean now. My brain hurts.

Gonna be the first (maybe) to say it, but if nothing comes of Buddie at all by the s7 finale, I am going to have a hard time believing any future storyline set up the show does.
To be clear, I do not think Buddie has to be canon for it finally be addressed, because I acknowledge what happened in seasons 2-6 kind of exist in a different world. It was a different network and majority of it was written with the *potential intent to have Buck be queer only to have that shot down, whereas now on their new network, Buck is canonically bi. So I am aware that the powers that be have changed, and with that, what the writers are able to do will differ.
However, I still think something should be said or done to tie those loose ends up. I still think Buddie is an unanswered entity in the 911 universe, and not putting it to rest is sour writing. Because if Tim didn’t want to touch on it, he would have said as much with 7x04. He would have crafted an episode that was definitively abut Buck wanting to be around Tommy, instead of it being ambiguous and coming across as him being jealous of Eddie choosing someone else.
And I know people who ship Buck and Tommy will say Buck said in the episode he was trying to get Tommy’s attention, but it is established in that very same moment Buck is only “guessing” Tommy is who he wanted attention from. He does not state it affirmatively, and in fact only says he guesses, after Tommy asks for clarification, because he too was surprised Buck’s actions were for him.
Now, this is not me saying Tim and the writers weren’t still intentionally aiming for Tommy, but if so, what they wrote does not make sense. So unless we’re meant to take that episode as being poorly written/constructed… I need them to go ahead and clarify things. Because how I would have crafted the episode if I knew I was aiming for Tommy not Eddie, is by:
Having a scene where Buck calls Tommy for the tour. — That establishes Buck seeking Tommy out on screen, and doesn’t leave viewers wondering how it happened.
Had Buck and Tommy run into each other so Buck could 1) ask him how the fight went, 2) have Tommy invite Buck to the basketball game, with him saying yes. — 1) would be giving them another chance to talk without Eddie, but for Tommy to sort of “gush” about how cool Eddie is and etc, solidifying the foundation of Buck’s jealousy out of fear he was being replaced. 2) would eliminate the need for Buck to peacock for Eddie in the gym, and could instead be replaced with him bragging that Tommy invited him along too, while Eddie is confused as to why Buck is excited since he doesn’t like basketball.
Shown Eddie and Tommy after the basketball game, in which Eddie expresses concern over Buck acting weird and hurting him. — It would have allowed viewers a chance to see Tommy connect the dots, then decide to go talk to Buck.
Lastly, I would have scrapped Tommy’s confusion entirely, replacing it with: “Trying to get your attention has been kind of exhausting.” — “Is that why you maimed your best friend?” — “I guess so.” — “Hmm, that’s not really my thing. I prefer talking.” “Yeah, my sister says there are better ways to get someone atten— *kiss happens*
So then, not only would that be blatant and intentional flirting from Tommy, but we’d also have known he had an idea about why Buck was acting out, and the kiss would have been less of a shock-shock (not that it truly was) for the audience and more us realizing Tommy sussed Buck out and took a chance on kissing him.
And that’s that. That is how the episode could have been definitively about Buck wanting Tommy’s attention, without changing anything major. Mind you, I’m not a showrunner nor professional writer, so I’m not going to act as if I know better than Tim.
What I will say, is I’m also not stupid and don’t see why they’d toe the line if they did not want people thinking Buck might be jealous and wanting of Eddie’s attention. Because there are only two answers, really. The first being, Tim didn’t know what the outcome would be the entire time he was writing it and couldn’t commit until he had an answer from Lou/ABC about the kiss. Or the other, Tim is actively teasing Buddie with no plans to make them canon. The latter would be fucked up, but not uncommon for television.
Either way, I said what I said. If all of this Buddie talk and intentional teasing within this season alone does not result in Buck and Eddie having a conversation about how they feel for each other, even if they do not date, there is no reason for me to believe any other storylines are being written with intent. Because there’s also only two ways this can go. Buddie is acknowledged and is shut down (a fair choice if that’s not the story Tim wants to tell) or Tim can act like he never dropped hints and that Buddie shippers were sadly looking to close despite what was said in 7x04, again, even though the episode plays both sides.
If he chooses the latter, that means he simply has lost his ability to craft interesting stories. And while I’ll still watch the show, because I genuinely love every character, it won’t matter to me what is being built up, because he could just as easily decide I as a viewer was looking too hard and only have myself to blame for misunderstanding what was written. That’s not a fun way to enjoy a show. Feeling like nothing matters when it feels like it should, just because the writers and show runner want to be chaotic or “subvert expectations”.
It’s why The Magicians went downhill fast after Quentin died. All that build up between he and Eliot for 3 seasons, followed by a 4th season of Quentin letting himself be tormented in attempt to save Eliot from being trapped inside the mind of a monstrous, magical killing machine, just to kill Q off before Eliot returned. Before either of them got to reconcile their love for each other and experience any sort of happiness together going forward.
I’m not saying 911 would ever be so dramatic, but am using it as an example of how to piss your audience off (not that Buddie shippers make up the majority of the audience) for no reason. It’s a great example of how crafting a story just to end it abruptly, then claim it as some profound and deep choice viewers just don’t understand about storytelling, is weak. It’ll be a poor excuse, and lead to me, at least, deciding to not actively care about how any storyline is crafted. I’m sure the show will continue to entertain me, again, I do love it, but the story building of each season won’t be my concern. I’ll watch whatever they show and take it as is, no expectations or theories, because what would be the point?
..
The (*) is because it is unclear to me whether or not any of this plan was actually written and shown on air, so people who say s4 was definitely leading to Buddie happening… I must disagree. Unless something else was said to confirm such, I can only go off of how I know episodes are usually pitched. Which is during meetings and stuff, either before or as they’re written. So Tim (or whoever) might have pitched the idea to FOX to have Buck be queer in s4, but that doesn’t mean they ended up airing the build up at all. What we’ve seen from s4 could very well be the consultation prize of sorts. Giving Buddie bigger emotional moments since Buck being queer was already shut down. That doesn’t mean Eddie was also planned to be queer back then or that Buddie was going to happen. Buck could have easily been dealing with unrequited feelings.

“Anon who straight up spoiled the loft scene for me last week, can you come back with your thoughts for the rest of the season? I'm curious to see your line of thought and I'm so sorry I doubted you 🩷”
i don’t know if you mean me or not but i DID send you a message recently about how the buddie loft scene could parallel the bucktommy loft scene… i’m shocked that i was sort of right honestly 😭
i know it wasn’t an exact parallel but… the dark warm lighting?? the soft discussion?? the Moment (kiss/hug) in the exact same spot between the table and island?? tommy/eddie leaving with advice to call eddie/tommy?? the final shot of buck letting out a sigh of relief??
gotta be on purpose surely??
i haven’t had the chance to think about the rest of the season yet lmao but in my opinion, last nights episode wasn’t bad for buddie i don’t think? there were lots of lines that could be revisited in the context of canon buddie if they choose to go there, like bobby’s advice, the catholic guilt, “i wish i could help” lmaooooo. and the interviews too! ryan basically saying women are all eddie knows but he thinks eddie will start exploring what he doesn’t?? lou saying it was meant to be eddie/tommy?? so queer eddie was/is on the table, the writers can see that a queer arc would lend well to his character/storyline just like we can??
slightly unrelated, but people are already saying that ryan is against kissing boys lol so that’s why it was bucktommy instead… 1. we definitely know that’s not true and 2. he’s right that a queer arc wouldn’t fit eddie right now? starting s7 he was with a woman but buck was single, so it made sense to be buck even though i wish with every fiber of my being that they had still gone with eddie haha
idk i’m always gonna be hopeful for buddie until the series finale and even then i’m still gonna ship them (save me fix it fics). but i do not understand people closing on buddie, it really feels like they’re keeping the possibility more open than they ever have before for their relationship to change in the future ❤️
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is you because I think that was the only ask I got about the loft scene paralleling the Bucktommy kiss and I legit was like "dude the anon was right" and had to race here to check kspsksoaksokas I really didn't think they were gonna be as on the nose as they were but they really were and I'm still ???? about because the whole you're not sure of your feelings thing with Maddie and everything with Tommy, Buck still not knowing what he wants but the VERY obvious parallels between both scenes are gonna drive me crazy lol please come back and tell me the thoughts once you figure them out, I'm genuinely curious to see what you think because you did get the vibe right and vibes are the thing that keep confusing me tbh
And honestly, Ryan acts like his main purpose in life is to be allowed to get paid to make out with Oliver, what do you mean he doesn't want to kiss boys? I don't think switching this arc around would work as well as it does for Eddie, I think realistically, freshly single Eddie would be a lot more freaked out if a guy he's known for a few weeks just kissed him, I don't think the progression we are seeing with Buck would work the same way because Eddie sexuality is set up differently, Buck has always been more casual about the physicality of a relationship, we literally haven't even seen Eddie kiss someone besides Shannon until last night. I know it wouldn't be a direct one on one switch, but I think letting Buck figure out with someone else's help while letting Eddie think about what it could mean for him that Buck is a guy and he's dating a guy, and he's dating a guy Eddie has a lot in common with that could get Eddie to be like "huh, maybe they do have the right idea" and look into the possibility of him being attracted to men on his own will makes a lot more sense, if that's the thing direction this is going. It was the impression I got from Eddie's contemplative *huh* upon finding out Tommy is gay, because considering how the show established how similar Eddie and Tommy are, to have Eddie be a little "oh i didn't know this was an option for us" even more since they are finally adding the religious trauma angle to canon, like, we knew, but good to know Eddie knows now too, could lead to something interesting. It's like we've all been saying, Buck's needs to figure out he's into men but Eddie needs to figure out he's into Buck. Buck is already there, and Eddie could trip into the realization whenever they want him to. Dude has been there ever since the end of season 5, Eddie knows how to soul search, he just needs the right trigger. This might be it. This feels like it could be it. It's getting too close to the point for them not to get there. All I know is I will be on the boat until the show ends and then stay on the boat because what if there's a revival and they suddenly decide it's time to make them canon yk? No one will ever take the hope away from me.
Also, thank you for coming back 🩷🩷

Asking this under anon bc i don’t wanna get any backlash in my inbox lmao
but to start this off: i love oliver stark, and i am so appreciative of how important he views this storyline and the representation it provides
however
i am going to be very disappointed in him if we get through the next few episodes, and it becomes clear that they aren’t going to further develop buddie anymore. he has always been so careful and cautious when it comes to implying things in interviews/press stuff, but lately with this resurgence in his response to fandom interest with buddie (liking fanart, reposting it, talking openly about buddie in interviews, confirming things like buck thinking eddie was attractive, etc.) if they don’t go that route, it will honestly severely hurt me.
i have very mixed feelings about what is and isn’t “queerbaiting” (most of my friends would say i tend to not believe that it’s a thing, and to an extent i agree) but there are certain situations in which something does blatantly feel like baiting… to me this is one of those situations.
with both lou and edy still being around, as well as ryan’s sudden stint in pr jail, the fandom’s obsession w lou/tommy, and tim minear’s seeming interest in complying with fan-service… it’s hard to remain optimistic that they will actually give us buddie. the past two weeks have given me whiplash as a buddie fan and i am getting tired of the show using our desperation and love for this ship as a marketing tactic when they have no intention of going there (tim minear himself saying things like “i don’t like to plan endgame relationships” or “there are no plans for buddie at the moment”).
that is why the media’s sudden obsession with asking about buddie, as well as oliver’s willingness to interact with buddie content online combined with the constant flow from the set of things not going in the direction of buddie… it feels very intentional to drag us in. and if oliver is participating in that, then i am going to be very disappointed and hurt by that. he used to care so much about not getting our hopes up, but lately it feels like that isn’t the case anymore, and that getting our hopes up is their way if getting us to continue watching the show because they know that people will stop watching after having to watch years of buildup and (at times admittedly) roment subtext between them just for all of that to be completely retconned and them to say “no-homo, bro” in favor of a character/ship that came out of nowhere and has had no development.
obviously, i don’t blame os for the storyline- he’s not a writer, he doesn’t get to dictate what does or doesn’t happen. But he is the one getting all of the media attention, and using that to shine a spotlight on buddie when (if) he knows that buddie isn’t happening? it feels very icky to me and i really don’t want to have a reason to dislike him.
unfortunately it’s seeming more and more like a possibility each day as we get inundated with bts info that doesn’t bode well for us at all.
I’m afraid I’ll have to disagree with you anon sorry😭🫶
If buddie doesn’t go canon/ they don’t show they’re heading in that direction in the next few episodes, I still would not blame Oliver at ALL for his recent more openness about buddie
(Idk how familiar you are with me and if you are you’ll know this but if you’re not lemme clarify I use bulletpoints a lot but not to be curt or rude I just like breaking things into chunks🫡)
1. He has made sure to constantly clarify that he doesn’t know how things are gonna go and he has no control over things- i mean EVERY time he spoke about buddie
2. He’s also a fan of the show guys, yes yes he’s an actor and it has different implications I agree 100% but also if he’s choosing to ship his character or enjoy fan work that’s his prerogative and sure he can lurk privately like he has in the past but also he probably knows that implications aside fans who make that work will be ecstatic to see him actually liking the stuff
3. The man legit said he deleted social media at one point cos he didn’t wanna like or share stuff that’d accidentally give people false hope for buddie or bi Buck but he has silently agreed for years and he hated not being able to confirm bi buck till now
4. He’s been a HUGE advocate for us both on the buddie front and bi buck front and that deserves recognition
5. As you said there is a LOT of bucktommy love rn which is great and all but may draw focus away from buddie, if Oliver is intentionally trying to get buddie fans to keep going it could genuinely just to show that buddie fans are still aiming for buddie endgame and that they still make up a huge portion of the fandom
6. Writing is CONSTANTLY in progress on 911 so again buddie fans being more vocal and abc and writers seeing such positive responses to him so much as interacting with buddie posts or answering buddie questions give them a gauge of audience’s wants (granted Tim has stated it’s not a HUGE factor for him) and also keep in mind s8 is still in the books so even proposals of storylines may be in the talks rn
7. When he talks he is VERY careful about his words and is very well spoken on the topic like yes there have been more stuff we can read into and be optimistic about but you can tell that he in no way is saying specific things to bait people, when talking about existing buddie things he talks about HIS interpretation and uses lots of maybes and might’ve beens and I see how that could be and when he talks about future buddie he talks about being open to it talks about what he’d want from it and he talks about not having control or knowledge of it happening
So yeah he has done/said things that I absolutely think warrant optimism (I made a whole post about it) but if it doesn’t pan out that optimism should a- still be there b- not turn into blame for him
Okay now Oliver aside- the questions being asked about buddie and all the buddie promotions I would be side eyeing the higher ups for if it’s for nothing because yes all the articles and stuff are stuff being pre-approved by abc and the people higher up than cast members or the journalists but I would also keep in mind that s8 is still in the works so hope is not lost even if s7 isn’t what we hoped for because keep in mind we had only 10 eps to work with too

This is what we’ve been saying though. In their minds, Buddie dating is the solution to any and all problems either of them can have.
And it’s just not a) realistic and b) all that true.
‘They will talk about their issues’ -> just because Buck asked Eddie about Kim does it mean Eddie willingly talks about his issues. Matter of fact, he only talked about them because Buck pressed on it. And before that? Before that he’d been lying to Buck. Something he has not shown any guilt or remorse about whatsoever. Him dating Buck would not magically fix the way he closes off - most likely, Buck would want to talk and Eddie would close off. Buck would press on the issue. Outcomes may vary.
‘Put on the work’ -> i’m just going to use 805 because it is the most recent example. putting on the work… sure. love to see all the work that takes rolling your eyes at your partner spiraling. or, not even caring when it’s clear they’re spiraling (this when the blade incident happened), and instead choosing to dance. I am sure Eddie, who didn’t even put on the work with his own wife, would do a 180 with Buck. Because it’s Buck, obviously.
Let’s make things clear: Buck and Eddie as friends work. Again, I have my issues when it comes to their friendship, but in canon their friendship works. Romantically? If you look at it realistically, not being an obsessive shipper - they are not compatible. Buck needs someone who can be on top of him, attentive (the way Tommy showed to be), someone who doesn’t necessarily enable him, but is happy to indulge (something we saw Tommy doing and Eddie NOT doing). He needs someone calm, and patient, and communicative. All things Tommy is. All things Eddie isn’t.
And just to be clear - Buck is also not what Eddie needs. Admittedly, we don’t exactly know what Eddie could want in a partner at this point, but Buck’s personality would overwhelm him more than soothe him. Why do I say this? Because we have evidence in canon. And not only just once.
So. This confidence in Buddie being the solution to each other’s issues is ridiculous. Mostly because of this closing argument:
Two people being together and suddenly fixing each other’s issues is not true. At all. They can help you, and you can be good together, work through stuff, and they can be what helps you feel more settled and confident. But issues always exist. In different scales, and of course not always big, but they are a natural part of life. The beauty of a partnership is seeing those issues, and accepting them. No one is perfect, and no one becomes perfect once they start dating somebody.
Like what?
Did I miss something that says something about a breakup between BuckTommy?
https://twitter.com/diazscloset/status/1852178887008022880?t=8XwAawtq26_9IVvj1JntCw&s=19
How is Buck overcompensating in his relationship with Tommy?? Either these people don't know what that word means or they have read a fanfiction and replaced fanon for Canon.
Even if you don't like Tommy, there is nothing to suggest that the relationship isn't working... in fact, the writers have deliberately made it completely different than all past relationships. If you don't see that, then you are choosing to ignore that, and that's no one's fault but your own.

some more of this little thing 👀
When Buck opens his eyes, someone is sitting on the couch near his feet the way Chris does. Someone who shouldn’t be here. Buck sits up frantically and stares at the vision of Eddie, healthy and beautiful and here and unharmed.
Buck is dreaming. That’s it. Has to be. Wow, he actually fell asleep? Enough to dream?
“Hey, Buck,” this Eddie says softly, and it sounds so real. It’s gentle and loving and full of warmth like Eddie always is when they talk.
Buck reaches for him. He sits up and needs to hug him, hold him, feel him alive and breathing on his own. But when Buck reaches him, he touches nothing. There’s nothing to touch.
He’s dreaming. It’s a vision. Nothing solid. Buck sags and sits back on his side of the couch and stares instead. Maybe looking at whole, healthy beautiful Eddie will somehow manifest this into reality. “You’re not real. You’re not here. I’m dreaming, right? And talking to myself? Apparently.”
“Either that or I am,” Eddie says.
Buck hadn’t considered that. Maybe Buck is the one who isn’t real. Maybe none of this is real and the whole of his existence is in his mind. Or in the mind of someone else?
Who knows. It’s too convoluted and too much to think about. But he’s read about this happening before. Someone’s loved one in the hospital, near death, and how their family had dreams or visions of them visiting. Maybe relaying messages. Maybe offering a comforting presence. Maybe nothing but the imagination of a mind wrecked by tragedy. Doesn’t really matter either way.
“Why are you here? Buck asks him even if he’s talking to himself.
Eddie swallows and looks pained. And so real. So, so vividly real. Even if nothing is real anymore. “I wanted to be with you.”
Buck reaches for him again because he has to. Eddie offers his hand in return this time.
Their fingers go through each other. Not touching. Nothing to feel. Nothing tangible.
They can’t touch.
Why would they? Even in a dream, they don’t get to have anything of each other.
“Please don’t die,” Buck says.
Eddie gives him a pained smile. “I’m trying really hard not to.”
Buck knows that. He knows Eddie would fight. Is fighting. He had to say it anyway. “Why did you— why? I mean I know it’s our job and that’s what we do. But what happened? Why— why was it like that? Why did it end up like that?”
Did you do it on purpose? Did you sacrifice yourself to save Tommy? Did you do that?
Eddie looks away from him, exactly how real Eddie would. He shrugs. As if it’s nothing. As if it’s just an accident. As if there was no emotion behind anything. “I know you need him. I wasn’t going to let you lose him.”
Buck closes his eyes, bends his head, and just wants to cry again like he has been for more than two weeks. “Eddie,” he sobs and clutches himself around his chest, around his own body since he can’t touch Eddie. “I need you, too. I can’t— This isn’t okay. This is worse. This is so much worse. Not that I want it the other way. It would have killed me, too. But. I can’t do this. I can’t lose you. I need you, too.”
“I figured,” Eddie says quietly. So quiet and strained and absent and distant. Too distant. “If you had to choose. You already chose. You picked him. I couldn’t let you lose him.”
At this point, Buck isn’t sure which is worse— if this is real and what Eddie really thinks or if this is his own mind telling him what he already feels guilty about.

Yes to your points— but BOY am I holding out hope that 9-1-1 Lone Star navigates with good writing because things always change with that show. And with the rewatch of season 4 still going, here’s my headcanons for both shows (one for the mother show, one for Lone Star).
Instead of a full-on crossover episode, maybe there will be hints that the shows still share a timeline and universe. Mayhaps that drug cartel Bobby, Amir and Athena ran afoul of was also a cartel group (or knows of another rival group) that Gabriel Reyes has/ had history with. And/ or, if the Diazes make cameos in Austin during one of the 126’s emergencies.
Anyway, my headcanons are only a few sentences long, but for 9-1-1:
The Wilson-Buckley-Hans will def need to play their cards smart and/ or lay low around Bitchy Councilwoman Ortiz with getting an adoption status renewed. Hen may or may not have a group session with the characters/ families of characters she’d saved (much like Maddie did) and they team up to bolster the Wilsons’ adoption appeal to Ortiz and CPS.
Gerrard either goes out pathetically or “heroically” (like, a “morally right” rescue for the wrong reason) saving an MC’s life (Buck, Bobby, Tommy, Chimney or Hen). Like, he tells them something like “Hasta la vista you plebes, oh and btw you’re welcome” but their bad opinion of him doesn’t change.
Ravi FINALLY gets a “begins” episode or at least a bit more character exploration.
Every MC affected by the events of season 7 get moments with Frank because they are in dire need of real emotional help for their re-triggered traumas (Bobby, Eddie, I’m looking at you two) outside of each other.
Tommy (Kinard) and Buck have many heart-to-hearts before they decide on getting married or anything. (Because it’s very possible the writers will make this a speed run of Tarlos’ story arc.)
For Lone Star:
Regarding why Grace is absent, which is the main one I’m holding out hope for: it’d be devastating if she’d died, OOC if she and Judd divorced/ broke up. Considering that Grace’s father has bad cardiac health (which, spoiler alert, he has had 2 in-universe with #2 in “Open” being the most recent and critical), we would hear that him having another one would definitely kill him. So when Grace hears that her father just went through heart attack #3 or another health condition that worsens his heart enough that that he gets only weeks left to live, she would be gutted about leaving Judd to care for Wyatt and Charlie alone. But Judd, even with his misgivings— hell, he’d rather carry the weight all by himself than keep his wife from her family while they’re suffering through losing their patriarch. So, he lets her take the leave, probably with “Grace— no matter how tired I’ll get, how much I’mma miss you, don’t you ever blame yourself for needing to be with your mama and sisters. Keep me posted on your daddy and them, take all the time you need— we’ll be here, my heart.” There you go. No breakup needed, and no need for Grace to be killed. And it leaves room for Sierra to come back on the show in the event that the show is greenlit for season 6 and she can get a better contract on the show with Fox.
If Enzo somehow put off Gwyn’s funeral for close on 2 years (minus the burial which already happened in season 3 I presume), and that coincides with Carlos having gotten closure, TK gets to have a private mourning service for both her and Robert. Or we get a flashback episode that features scenes with him as a troubled teen and how things were with him and Enzo (like, this is before/ during his drug use).
Judging by the bts bits, it looks like Carlos may stay in law enforcement and likely choose to transfer from APD to the Rangers. I think this has to be Carlos’ own decision, though, not just an honoring— that “killing parts of himself” quote already sounds foreboding even if there’s a chance it’s hyperbole. Most of what I have to say about Tarlos this season were things already voiced by tumblr friends, so there’s not much besides these two hcs about their arcs this coming season. I just PRAY they get a real reprieve!
Bro i am literally so excited for 911 season 8😭😭 i just wanna see how Buck and Tommy’s relationship will go, i wanna see how the 118 deals with Gerrard as their new captain, i wanna see how Bobby gets his spot back at the 118 as captain (cus we all know damn well Gerrard is NOT staying for long). I want to see what happens with Eddie and Chris and whatever they got going on, I just cannot WAIT!!! This fall needs to hurry up NOW.
I’m also excited to see 911 LS season 5 because Grace isn’t gonna be there, so i wonder how Judd is going to act throughout the season, especially with the baby, i want to see Carlos and TK’s marriage progress, and i want to see Carlos grow closer with his mom, following his dads death, and much more.
Apart from the 911 series, SWAT season 8 is also coming out this fall and i’m excited for that too. Chris, Street, and Luca all left, so i would like to see how the rest of the team deals with it. I’ve only gotten to season 5 so far, but I’ll be done before this fall, trust!😭
