💭 right back atcha for El and the reveal about the evanuris - mythal, trespasser, all of it
(Does solas tell her about the vallaslin since she’s with bull?)
Haha, thanks for the ask :) I'm actually planning future oneshots about these events - and tbh, they're not yet set in chronological order as I haven't thought about it in that detail, but I'll tell you about my plans!
Honestly I feel like Solas telling Lavellan about the vallaslin shouldn't have been romance-locked, but maybe friendship locked. I can see him feeling a duty to tell a fellow elf he's come to respect the truth - I can imagine that it rankles him, seeing someone proudly wear what he views as slave markings day after day without knowing the truth. He's held it back for so long, and know his charade will soon have to end -- so he might as well leave with a parting gift to soften the betrayal. (El sure doesn't see it as a gift, though.)
So, yes! I want to write the aftermath of him pulling her aside to tell her, without the romantic aspect of that scene.
Cutting myself off at this point so I don't spam people who don't care about my long headcanons 😉
Honestly, when he offers to remove it, she's...so angry. And she rarely lets herself be truly angry. But she already feels cut off and alone from everything Dalish; she and Solas haven't always seen eye to eye; it's an insult that he thinks so little of a beloved culture that he'd take the last link to her clan and history away.
That part sort of overshadows the revelations about the gods; but she decides quite quickly that it doesn't matter if the gods were exactly what she was always taught. She already had a tenuous belief in the distant elven gods. What good were their gods, truly, if they'd never helped the elves escape slavery, massacre, or subjugation? They were more ideas and vehicles to teach morals to children than anything else. And the older she became, the less she believed they influenced her life in any meaningful way.
So, Solas' origin story of the Evanuris makes sense to her, but it also doesn't change much for El.
The lessons they taught still matter, even if they didn't come directly from gods. The culture that binds her people as one is still important. They made their own stories out of the ashes of old ones.
As to the Well of Sorrows, El can't in good conscience allow the wisdom of the ancient elves go to a human, or be lost forever, so she makes a sacrifice to drink from the well. And she does view it as sacrifice, but she's already sacrificed a lot to become Inquisitor, so what's one more? I'm not exactly sure how she feels beyond "resigned to her fate, and vaguely afraid she just made a terrible mistake." Dealing with the voices from the Well aren't great for her mental health for a while, either.
I want to write both Solas and Bull's reaction to this: the first is angry, maybe out of fear. Bull doesn't know much about this stuff and lets her make her own choice, but secretly worries what it will mean in the long term; there's already the Anchor to worry about - now even more weird magic he doesn't understand. He doesn't like unpredictable magic, not knowing what might happen. He doesn't know what to prepare himself for - but he hopes for the best. And he worries for her mental state, that she would take this risk; it feels like she's sinking deeper into her role and losing herself.
And Trespasser - seeing Solas with his true power as Fen'Harel is both terrifying and somehow makes her deeply, deeply sad. He's every bit the scary tales of her childhood come to life. Learning more about what he tried to do for his people reminds her of own doubts that she was following the right path as the Inquisitor, making the right choices, doing the right things to save the world. She can empathize with that, she can mourn what he tried to do and what was lost. But at the same time, can't stand idly by while he undoes all that she sacrificed to save. Or it all becomes meaningless. And she can't accept that she did all of this for nothing.
She feels not up to the task of stopping him from destroying the world - he's so much more powerful than he ever let on - but still duty-bound to try, until her last breath. After all, she'd befriended the Trickster, the thing she'd been warned about all her life. Her folly and thus, her responsibility.

Okay. So Killer (New Age) lore post! Putting it immediately under the cut, because I get the feeling this will be longer-
Killer! He's the first one Nightmare takes in! He's the 'Average' one. The silver-tongued common street rat, literally snatched away from the gallows. He's obnoxiously loyal.
His story is going to be (hopefully) loosely based on his canon, but still follow a lot of the New Age conventions.
So, Killer was a straight up orphan. Like, abandoned as a babybones on the steps of a temple. Temples would often double as orphanages, if you dropped a kid at the right one. (Killer had a malformed soul from birth. Didn't affect him at all, just looked weird.) So Killer? He was raised religious, basically. Worshipping the deity which was most prominent at the time (which for this era, Nim was largely the one being worshipped as though a god. Like Rome worshipping the Emperor), a very strict environment, a very lonely one as there weren't many other kids, and a fairly violent upbringing. The people there were Not proper caretakers. But it was all Killer had, and running away never crossed his mind, because beyond the market, there was nothing for him that the temple couldn't give. At least, that's what he was taught. Until, of course, he met Chara (just going by the normal ut name tho I do think they're called the Player in Something New?). (Note: Killer had a different name before he left the temple.)
Killer was only 11 or 12 (he didn't really keep track) when Chara started coming with their parents to the Temple. Their parents would ditch them to talk to the adults, and Chara would try to find other things to do, to get out of their parents sight, and one day they spotted the Orphans. Killer in particular (the oldest) was their target, about their same age. And they would talk to him. At first he was hesitant, but, you know how it goes, kids are kids and they'll talk.
And over the course of several visits, Chara told Killer about the outside world. All the places and the animals (Killer told Chara that the sacrafices were all animals, very unique) and the ocean, they told him about the mountains and the towns and ships and the guard and all of it. And it got to Killer. He started wanting to go beyond the walls of the temple (he always had, but never had reason to understand that urge).
One night, Chara showed up at the temple grounds after dark, while Killer was doing his final cleaning checks, and they encouraged him to leave. to run away with them. And... well, he did. He stole a cloak from the doorway and ran off with Chara. While they were on the run, Chara from their parents and Killer from his temple, they had to do what all street-rats did. Steal, cheat, and protect themselves. Killer was the first of them to kill. it wasn't much different from sacrificing the animals on the altar, anyhow. It was just another way to get what he wanted, since the god, Nim, never had any answers to his prayers. The person he killed had recognized his name, other sects were after him now that he'd run with Chara (unbeknownst to him, Chara was meant to be a sacrifice once they were old enough). He changed his name to the skill he was good at: Killer.
And they stay like that for a long long time, never settling down, always on the move, never leaving the kingdom because doing so would make it easier to find them, two red marbles in a sea of blue ones. And Chara never got their hands dirty. it was always Killer. it was his duty to back-up Chara. he 'owed' them for getting him out of that Temple. Out of that boring life. Chara, in some way, became the center of his world, something beyond his grasp and beyond poor judgement. Beyond the flaws of any living being. And they were fine. They still did normal teenage things, they laughed, they joked, they played, they lied, they got sweet treats and split big loaves of bread. But it wasn't healthy. A parasitic relationship where Chara took and Killer gave, weighed down by an impossible debt to repay.
Then, years and years later, Killer was finally taken down by the guard. Now wanted for several counts of murder, theft, and other bad things, he was caught. This time, unlike several others, instead of breaking out like he normally did, h decided to wait and see. How long would he have to be gone for Chara to seek him out instead? And Chara left him. And left him. And didn't ever come back for him. Gone, fully, 100%. His faith broke, along with his hope. The one thing that motivated him in life had abandoned him, and he couldn't seem to bring himself to do anything anymore, because he had sacrificed all he was and wasn't enough to keep his only friend around.
In prison he talked with other people. Prisoners aren't all bad, you know, especially when they saw Killer, a young guy, looking so downtrodden. Even though he was an objectively horrible person, hearing others try to cheer him up, expecting nothing in return, was helpful.
And then, ofc, when he met Nightmare he decided he could have a ticket out of here. A weird guy who would give him a place to stay, and pay him, and he could just go and then escape like he always did? Go live his own life for the first time ever? Yeah, sounds banger.
But then, you know, he ended up finding Nightmare's situation much too interesting, and Ccino way too handsome, and his gig just a bit too cushy. But he never had blind faith again. Nightmare is unaware, but that fake faith act Killer started with quickly morphed into a faith earned through action, and care, and kindness. Killer saw and felt that Night would be willing to risk himself just as much as Killer would. (Maybe that's why he became so loyal. maybe that's why it's important that Killer came first and set that expectation for the other Knights. Maybe that's why Killer faced off against Dream and almost died, and why Nightmare ran infront of Killer to spare him that final blow and proved exactly why Killer followed him in the firstplace-)

May I present y'all with Amryl Shadowhoard; my Gary Sue, my batman. My everything and the kitchen sink. And I adore it.
SO. Amryl [They/It; sometimes she] is a hybrid [dhampir/werewolf, roflmao], half-elf with tiefling ancestry. Why do they have wings you ask? [Because I wanted it to fly/teleport, :-(].
I haven't ironed out the deets. But basically, Amryl is the youngest sibling to my youngest durge [Isyl]. Amryl's family found/was given Isyl. They didn't have children yet and Isyl became their beloved baby. They loved [.... I think] Amryl but they could never get losing Isyl. So they - a very wealthy mercantile/trader family - spent a lot of money trying to find Isyl.
Amryl became a dhampir; not through the traditional sense but either from a deal went wrong made by her parents OR by a trash ex [I haven't decided yet]. My original thought [that I might keep] was that it died, and through regret [if I do the parents angle] or obsession [the ex angle], and they were frankenstein'd back to life. Hence the wings [and maybe the werewolfness].
It's family was very devout to Lathander but the Morninglord [and his followers] do not suffer the undead. So when they came back, he left them out in the cold. But Bahamut welcomed her with open arms. So they're a war cleric of Bahamut and a ranger 😌.
I still have not decided their personality. Other than they're a dark wearer; the blue and white is an exception to honor Bahamut [he doesn't seem the type to care but it is immensely grateful for his kindness and strength and support]. Also, their bg is entertainer.
ty for coming to my TEDtalk.

While the Ethereal Genome concept has yet to be tidied up, I would like to take the time to finally write out that aforementioned "little something" regarding Terra, Garland and Ethereals.
(The one perk to this having taken this long is I actually have even more to write here! That being said, this one is pretty sizeable. I highly advise not clicking that little "read more"/"keep reading" bit unless you're fully committed!)
To begin, we'll start with talking Terra. Terra, on its universal pursuit for answers as well as other planets and their crystals, making use of their magical "fusion" art to try to elude the "decay" all the while, acquired energy sources as needed along the way to fuel their travels. One of these energy sources happened to be Etherealism - namely, remnants of it. As novel as I make Etherealism out to be, honestly, you can find it in various shapes and sizes all throughout the cosmos. And because they are comprised of energy (and are spectral entities as well, which have more or less been confirmed as an energy source in various Final Fantasy worlds. Shout out to fantastical fossil fuels!) these remnants proved quite successful as fuel.
However, they weren't merely reduced to fuel as they did in fact prove quite fascinating (and they were looking for answers to their crisis any and everywhere, of course!) They were initially taken in as a subject of study as well, but their research only really boomed when more complex forms of Etherealism (something more than these inexplicable fragments of light, ions and mysterious soul-like matter just floating around like space debris) were encountered.
Now, as for why I decided Terra shares some notable history with Etherealism in this story, there are quite a few reasons for that...
▫️ The Desert Palace
Tumblr media
Look, it's the room I constantly keep forgetting about! Therapeutically forcing myself to acknowledge its existence today. 😎
Once I realized the likelihood of Kuja kidnapping any number of the "main cast" at one point or another for any duration of time throughout this story was notable, I knew I was going to have to better arm him as well as the palace itself to hold them hostage.
Why do that? Well, I have a story to write and it lends itself to the storytelling! Look, they'll be fine.
As the plot currently stands, there's at least one Ethereal in the party and detaining them is no easy task. Not only can they spook their way around a little bit here and there, but they're dangerous and have the potential to just destroy everything if things get heated (quite literally) and they feel threatened. Now, you could argue that they might hesitate when it comes to being destructive, given other lifeforms being present and not wanting to harm them - plus, even in the case of going ghost mode, they couldn't help out their friends that way. However, spoiler alert: at least one of those Ethereals may not care about saving friends, so... playing on their emotions isn't enough to keep them all in, sadly. It'd work on only one of them. Which isn't enough for me..!
So, I felt Ethereal countermeasures should be considered - and I figured these countermeasures could be made possible if Ethereal research had already been integrated into Terra's history - at least enough to where, to some extent, they knew how to contain it and subdue it. The more I thought about it, I realized it actually was more than possible for them to encounter Etherealism during their cosmic travels of yore. So, I decided to roll with the idea!
Seriously, they'll be fine. Trust me!
▫️ The Ethereal Genome
Tumblr media
So... with every cosmic horror comes the horror element, right? And Ethereals easily fall into a cosmic horror category!
If there's anything we've learned from the genre, making use of an alien body in any capacity can prove volatile, yielding both grand discoveries and tragic consequences... (Once again, I'll make an FFVII comparison: they essentially did this with Jenova; just imagine the Terrans did something similar with Ethereals in this particular story. Kind of.)
Among the consequences of handling Etherealism was one of its most toxic traits: Ethereal radiation...
Countless Terrans were lost to this silent, but deadly long term killer before a more viable safety protocol was established. Protocol that was able to be passed on to Garland once he was created, who would proceed to elaborate upon it himself. For many - and I mean m a n y - years, Garland was successful when it came to working with Etherealism. However, there was still room for error. Particularly when the creation of Genomes began. One singular Genome, one singular encounter with improperly contained Etherealism and a whole lot of luck (or lack thereof) later... rather than the discovery of a lesser Genome slowly expiring, one would be made of one slowly being "infected" by Etherealism.
This lesser Genome became a harbinger of many future Genome deaths. She grew to eventually be a source of this Ethereal radiation, a contaminant allowed to walk free, unknowingly poisoning her own kind as they just as unknowingly allowed themselves to be - until those radiation levels were detectable/detected by the systems in place and their source able to be singled out.
When Garland finally became aware of this, rather than doing what some may consider reasonable (such as attempting to terminate her and/or casting her out of Terra) he decided to do what any of the more scientifically-driven or the cliché "mad scientist" sort would do: cut his losses for the sake of the learning opportunity at hand. There was no way he could literally throw that away. And so, he contained this Genome as he would any other Ethereal remnant.
In containment, she remained for a very long time as well. For study and for safety. While containment method was the same, the study was a little more complex than what would be applied to your "average" Ethereal remnant. (A bit like keeping a venomous snake, studying its venom, hoping to develop an antivenom, etc. That and things of the like.)
One day, however, after Kuja has his "little" meltdown in the main FFIX storyline and destroys Terra, she would finally be freed from containment. Cast from a state stasis, essentially - energy deprivation - and no explanation just to be immediately subjected to all this radiation and energy from the overly-abundant use of Ultima and the chain effect of the Iifa Tree going haywire (remember the mist tangent and me talking about how wild of a ride it can be for Ethereals to encounter and especially intake? Keep that in mind) this makes for a very Not Great™️ experience for this little Genome gal.
Despite the chaos of it all, however, she does manage to make it out! To the Shimmering Isle, where she hardly makes it beyond the now dead portal, huddling up, curling into a little ball somewhere amidst its edifices. Tormented and traumatized (even more.)
While this Genome bears the usual stoic to be expected from her kind, because of her Etherealism, she did actually have time to grow a little bit, in a way - or at least the Ethereal part of her did - just enough to grant her the ability to think and feel things outside of the usual lesser Genome range. Just enough to be troubled by the things that happened to her, on some level. 🥲
I would like to note one little detail here: I've taken a bit of a lore dive with Terra and Genomes, yes, but nothing too dreadfully deep, so... I will confess, I'm not actually all that sure if the lesser Genomes would have names! They were essentially vessels without souls - once given a soul, they would be given an identity by extension. In that respect, I formulated the headcanon that these guys have no identity until that transpires.
If that is incorrect, I'll be more than willing to make that correction. 💙 Until then, though, that is the lore!
The Ethereal Genome technically bears no name until later in the story, having earned it outside of Terran means. She eventually is named "Yoko." (Given that Mikoto's name is Japanese in origin, I thought I'd play off of that and have Yoko's name also share some Japanese roots! One of "Yoko's" various meanings translates to "sun child" or "child of the sun," which I thought was more than appropriate for an Ethereal kid.) ☀️
▫️ The Treasure Map
Tumblr media
(God bless "treasure map" stock imagery. I didn't need an image, but I wanted one since the other two had some... hahaha!)
Lastly, but not least-ly! Has a little bit to do with that silly little map and the treasure hunt escapade it forges as well. There is Terran symbology and Ethereal reference alike made among the many associated puzzles and clues.
Why exactly this is, I'm still admittedly brainstorming, so I can't quite go into too much detail with this point yet. However, the connection in cryptography is definitely there. I still feel it's worth mentioning, in that respect! It could very well be a point I return to and elaborate upon someday in the future as I have the previous ones. 🤔
(Of which, I will say that's how Kuja got sucked into the whole thing and what ultimately leads to taking the main gang hostage too! I'll leave the full story for later or for an actual bit of story that may be written in the future, though.)

Emilio's Introduction —✧
"If you see him, contact me immediately. He is dangerous." —Cyno
◆ Name: Emilio ◆ Gender & Pronouns: Male, he/him ◆ Age: 29 ◆ Affiliations: Fatui (currently) ◆ Nation: Sumeru ◆ Heritage: Natlander ◆ Vision: None ◆ Delusion: Pyro ◆ Weapon: Claymore ◆ Constellation: Dies Leo ('Day Lion')
Tumblr media
Emilio recalls his days of being an honorable warrior under Lady Murata's command quite well.
Defending his family's grace and prestige, settling disputes between two warring opponents (which was quite a frequent occurrence in Natlan; truthfully, settling violent disputes was a comfortable and relaxing routine for him at one point), sparring in the name of Lady Murata's honor and occasionally in the name of keeping her entertained...
He was once such an honorable man. He laments the incident that led him to where he is today, but the past is not something that can be changed.
What might he do differently if he had one chance to experience that day again?
...Maybe he would just have gone back to sleep that morning.
But the mechanical limbs attached to his body always served as a cold reminder of the reality he lived. He could never change the past; he could only confidently stride forward, down the path of irredeemable corruption that the Fatui paved for him.
And yet, somehow, he has grown to be not only okay with that, but earnestly content with it.
What manner of monster has the world turned him into?
Tumblr media
PERSONALITY
◆ Reserved, distant, cold, and cunning, Emilio keeps to himself and observes, thoroughly akin to a stalking predator watching its prey-to-be, waiting for the perfect moment to strike and sink its teeth into the victim's neck... but truthfully, hunting his prey is not a common demand within his job—that is moreso his little sister figure's job. Most of the time, Emilio works underneath the glaring Sumeru sun in the deserts, researching old mechanisms at Il Dottore's behest. His job was far easier before the sages were overthrown, but oh well; he will not complain about such a minor inconvenience. Resourceful and intelligent, Emilio skillfully avoids the Matra to the point that even the General Mahamatra himself struggles greatly to catch his scent. Even though he is no longer an honorable warrior, Emilio still moves with the deftness of one. He will not be caught, and he tauntingly dares the General Mahamatra to even attempt doing so.

kirb i love eddy your new guy eddy so very much, and i would like to hear more about him if you'd like :]
okie dokie :D !!!!
-his father exclusively calls him credence. eddy was a nickname from his fellow band kids
-there's a rumor that eddy bit max jägerman on the former's first day of high school. eddy never looks guilty when it comes up. he laughs and no one can tell if that means it’s true or not
-he calls his dad “pops”
-eddy starts getting really angry out of nowhere when it’s a wiggly-dominated timeline. it sets him on edge
-eddy likes peppy christian guitar music and also the most strange sounding grunge
-he really likes christmas! no idea why (lie)
-he has a very strange laugh. on bad days it makes hannah squirm for some reason
-he plays the tuba to be more like his idol, larry the cucumber
-lex thinks he’s weird but is really grateful for him because he’s a good friend to hannah
-eddy is honestly scared of himself, but he’s faithful things will all work out
-he was supposed to be a way for wiggly to get some extra influence in the world, but eddy really loves life and wouldn’t be willing to destroy it, not without a really bad timeline
-he hates clivesdale and, although he doesn’t really get football, yells really loudly for the nighthawks to “fucking kill those chemists” during the big game. go nighthawks!
-he’d be friends with anyone if they were nice to hannah
-eddy is a very trusting person. it could easily be his downfall.

I made a map for my story ! Click on the image for better quality
The action takes place in an open star cluster, the name of which can be roughly translated from Isshan to "the One With A Thousand Stars" / "the Eternal Warden" (though the Isshan word for "star" has other meanings, the first version is the most widely used translation (contrary to its name, the cluster "only" has around 700 stars)).
The Warden is around 40 light years in diameter and can be divided in 4 zones : the Core, the Center, the InBetween and the Edge.
The Core is unhabitable and inexplored, due to the lethal radiation levels caused by the high density of stars.
The Center is where most of the population of the cluster lives. It contains the 3 originally inhabited systems : Issha (the Captain is Isshan), Armis (birth place of Etha and Meden) and KseI (uppercase i, not lowercase L) (home of the KseIn, lizard-like people. The Lieutenant is half KseIn). Also in the Center are Noutéra, the planet given to the Humans by the Union, and in the centroid of the Issha-Armis-KseI triangle, the space station housing the government.
The InBetween, less populated than the Center but still under Union protection, is where most of the resources circulating in the Union are extracted. Many systems contain at least one outpost.
The Edge has been abandoned by the Union. It is scarcely populated, with few inhabited systems and fewer resources. Some Isshan outposts, dating back to the Exploration era, are scattered here and there. It is home to pirates, warlords, mercenaries and bounty hunters. The Edges are the hunting grounds of the Imperator.
Most of the One With A Thousand Stars is still unexplored. There are rumours of pirate factions warring in the Center, on the other side of the Core, and plenty of legends to fill the minds of spationauts with dread and wonder.
