i’m trying to decide if i want to continue the cover project for season 2 as well. i want to because there are things that happen in the episodes and characters that i really wanna draw- but then again- the fandom is dying. if i do s2 covers idk if im doing it for me or doing it out of necessity.

i can’t move on from this fandom, i’m way to attached to it. it feels wierd to see people leaving. props to those who can, but i just can’t. i joined the fandom april 11th 2023. it feels like o just got here and im not ready to move on. it’s sad that im watching the fandom die as i am grasping at the remains just because i dont wanna lose it.

It’s not Powder vs Jinx.

It’s past vs present.

When Silco says Jinx needs to “let Powder die” he’s not trying to get Jinx to “kill her inner child” or that he only wants Jinx to be Jinx. Cuz Jinx and Powder are the same person.

He means you need to let the past die. Move on (or at least gaslight yourself into thinking you’ve moved on). So that you can become stronger and more capable from overcoming it. Untether yourself from the past so that you can accept who you are in the present.

So that the past can’t hurt you anymore.

And Jinx’s choice between the Jinx chair and the Powder chair isn’t about her choosing between two split personalities. It’s about her wondering if she can ever go back to the innocent person she used to be. If she can shrug off the present and revert to the past.

But this is of course impossible. She has grown up to become a very damaged person. You can’t just flip a switch and go back to the way you were pre-trauma and pre being raised by a guy who enabled all your self-destructive behaviors.

And Vi cannot enable Jinx the way Silco has. She won’t shoot Caitlyn for Jinx. There’s no way she would have “passed” Jinx’s messed up test. And even if she had, enabling Jinx’s violence would never have brought Powder back. Because Jinx is just who Powder has grown up to be.

Silco is right. Her name is Jinx. She’s not that girl anymore. Vi is still holding out hope that Jinx can revert back to her past innocent self. But things have changed too much. Some things can’t be undone. There’s no way to go back to the way things were. So might as well embrace the present, no matter how tragic and shitty it is.

So here’s to the new us.

i am once again thinking about Percy and Annabeth and their respective relationships with their step-parents, particularly how the other views the other's dynamic with their step-parents.

Because there's a really interesting subtle thing that we see which is when Annabeth talks about her step-mom to Percy, Percy's assumption is that Annabeth's step-mom is like Gabe. He just presumes that because that's what's familiar with him and based on his own experiences he assumes their situations are similar.

But then when Percy actually meets Annabeth's step-mom (and her dad) he realizes their situations aren't at all the same. He was expecting another Gabe, but instead he just found a genuinely caring family that was just struggling to find their footing with one another.

The interesting thing is that this implies an inverse - especially with what we know about how Percy and Annabeth describe their experiences. Percy doesn't really talk about Gabe ever. To anyone. Grover knows the whole picture there but he's basically the only one of Percy's friends who does. As far as we know, unless Grover told her at some point, Annabeth doesn't know about Gabe. She knows he was a jerk, but Percy out loud doesn't ever really get into details about it. She knows they didn't get along and eventually Gabe disappeared and Percy basically never spoke of it again. Presumably, Annabeth thinks Percy's dynamic with Gabe was like her dynamic with her step-mom, like how Percy had thought their situations were the same. Especially given we know Percy assumed their situations were the same and likely spoke about it as such if it ever came up.

Like. That's such an interesting tiny aspect of their dynamic that never gets touched upon. Annabeth likely doesn't know about this very core traumatic experience Percy endured before they met because she's operating under the assumption that their family just was a little rocky like hers was.

They’re always going on about how ‘Snape joined a terrorist cult that killed people because of their origins,’ but they conveniently forget that ‘Snape betrayed that terrorist group and actively worked for 18 years to destroy it.’ Apparently, for these people, social reintegration through personal sacrifice for the greater good doesn’t count as redemption, but getting a girl pregnant before turning 20 does.

"Cass would hate Jason." Yep, sure makes sense. At his peak they would have been bitter enemies. Even now when he's not killing, his existence hits enough of her emotional sore spots that I could see her disliking him.

The thing about the new chapter that scares me the most is this insinuation we will get a timeloop.

Cause on one hand, I love timeloops and doomed characters! But on the other hand it is a risky comcept for a monthly manga.

There is a real chance the new world problem of rushing-the-story will continue ( a problem I complain in detail here) and Aidairo will prioritize shock value over character dept , specially with the promise that this hourglass will not solve problems, just make it worse.

And if the goal is to make things worse than this:

I am really scared we will speedrun tragedy after tragedy, focusing on making as shocking and sad as possible, instead of exploring the incredible comcepts we where introduced, such as making Teru have a talk with his now alive mom, or exploring Aoi's relationship with Kou now that she is engaged with his big bro, or learning why Mei is alive in this timeline or literally anything that will give this world dept instead of making it an empty doomed place that only exists as an obstacle to get back to the old timeline.

It is unlikely that aidairo will discard every set up and secundary characters but the very small chance of this becoming the 'speedrun of nene's breakdown' arc instead of something where every character is explored scares me.

We do have some abandoned set ups Aidairo can use to both make everything angsty AND explore the characters, such as the memories time limit, so i am counting on that being used on at least one loop of the timeloops.

in short: I really really hope Nene isn't left completely alone, trapped in a time prison of her own making where no one (not even akane, who is a clock keeper) has any memories of any of the previous timelines and the world become a stage where everyone become actors and ONLY Nene's story matters.
