Incorrect, the fact that Biden has dropped out and a candidate with history of supporting medicare for all and being more receptive to a ceasefire in the I/P conflict has made me go from "I cannot morally support the Democratic nominee" to "I am voting for the Democratic nominee despite the fact she isn't perfect in every respect." I'm really happy this played out. The Dems for the most part abandoned the old Obama platform and it feels like its possible an actual progressive agenda could come to pass in my lifetime.

At the last moment, as Obi-Wan raised his lightsaber before him and bowed his head, he felt a tug somewhere behind his ribs. His breath caught, lungs and stomach tightening. This was not, he thought, what letting go should feel like. This was very much not being let go of. 

Qui-Gon, he thought, a desperate regretful whisper. 

In the next moment he found himself standing, unrobed and disarmed, staring at the closing blast doors as Vader—oh Anakin, he thought—prodded at a brown heap of wool with booted foot. 

The rest was a blur. Solo was yelling; Luke was tugging at his elbow—it was his piercing cry that had drawn the attention of the stormtroopers and the hail of blasterfire in the first place. Obi-Wan, half in a stupor, allowed himself to be dragged up the boarding ramp of the Falcon, stumbling between them as Solo and Chewbacca returned fire. 

He was chivvied up into the ship and then left unmoored, standing sightless in the common area as the others dashed around him for the pilots’ seats and the guns. The shooting that followed, the fancy flying—none of it could touch him as he sagged against the common area’s dingy bench.

Bitter tears welled behind his eyes, burning to get free. Eventually everything quieted, and left only emptiness behind. 

Master, Obi-Wan thought, Qui-Gon, I’m so sorry. 

And turned to see the Princess staring at him, wide-eyed. Shaking. 

“You got old,” she said at last. 

Obi-Wan laughed. He couldn’t help it. He laughed so long and so hard that Luke and Han peered out of the cockpit and the gunport to eye him with intense concern. 

“And you got a blaster,” he managed, still snickering. 

Through her pallor and her tears, at last, Leia grinned. She leapt forward and wrapped her arms around him, squeezing him so tight he let out a quietly pained ooff of breath. 

“You two… know each other.” Captain Solo, ever quick on the uptake, was watching them with the deepest distrust. 

An amused rumble from the cockpit had the captain’s eyebrows jumping up to his hairline. “You’re kidding,” he uttered over his shoulder, and received a self-satisfied chortle in response. 

Obi-Wan might’ve appreciated it more if he hadn’t been holding on to a quietly sobbing Princess, Alderaan’s last survivor.

I think the most beautiful thing about writing of Howl and Sophie's pair is that they are written as people before being written as a pair. Let me explain this very quick.

The thing about book Sophie and Howl is that they are not really fully fitting into any "classic" romantic trope. They are not exactly enemies to lovers, as their angry chats are definitely cannot be considered a life or death battle, they are not rivals to lovers because the only aspect of rivalry between them is the cleaningness of Howl's room. They are not friends to lovers, as their relationship just doesn't fit into "friendship" structure at the very start, nor they are roomates (yes, they live in the same house but that's not the core aspect of their relationships). Of course, you can go on and fit the name of the trope you found specifically for them, but that's the thing.

They simply cannot be processed through a pairings lenses only, in order to understand how they act in relationship you need to analyse them separately, as a characters first of all. Cause that's what the book itself does!

Sure, it doesn't have a whole lot of romance instead, but it gives us time to learn and observe the life of incredibly written, alive characters, understand them as personalities first of all, while slowly immersing the dynamic between two characters (in this case, Howl and Sophie) into work. They are written as personalities, both being fully separated and interviewing, changing eachother's point of view.

It's difficult to find a trope for them. They're are not a trope. They are Howl and Sophie, and that's probably the only way their dynamic can be properly described. Just as real people, they are not really fitting into the boxes of linial character progression, but go way deeper into being complex, filled with little differences and moments only people with their personality can have in romantic (or any different) kind of interaction. They're imperfect, and silly, and multidimensional and the reader knows them well enough to imagine them interacting way beyond of what the book says to them.

They are being people before being a ship, a pair of a trope — and that's why they work so perfectly charming in the end.

Howl and Sophie are unique in being themselves.

i’d love to know how much of early day's spn subtext was deliberate or just a happy accident bc the subplot of 1x08 bugs is sam and dean butting heads about how they were raised and sam hating it while dean tells him he should accept it as they protect a family; predominantly a father and son

the father and son argue bc the son is different and not who the father wants him to be while the son feels ignored and shunned (aka sam). sam spends the episode empathising with him and telling him he can look forward to going to college to get away from him just like he did while dean cuts in to say he should stick with his family

the entire episode, dean defends john and the way he raised them ("maybe he needed to raise his voice but sometimes you were out of line"), it even starts with him and sam arguing over their illegal ways of making money and how they were brought up in the life; dean adapting to and enjoying it and sam wanting to be honest and straight

they talk about sam being sure john is and always has been disappointed in him just for dean to say john used to go to stanford whenever he could to check on him and something about his expression is so bitter; like he knows john would never express that care for him

but at the climax when they're trying to get matt to convince his dad to leave, sam is the one telling him to tell the truth and make his dad listen whereas dean tells him to lie; implying he wouldn't trust his son enough to believe him

he outright scoffs at sam and asks him what he was thinking for trying to get matt to tell the truth

the entire episode, dean is advocating for the kid to work it out (almost to just take it) and stay with his family but when push comes to shove, he tells him to lie

sam who spent years resenting john and his family for how they were raised, fell back on "making him listen"; echoing all the arguments he had with john, trying to force him to understand who he is while john's too blinded by vengeance to even begin to try. the same way sam refuses to see how they were raised and why they were raised that way from john’s point of view, hinting at how similar people they are (which still isn’t an excuse but also not the point rn)

dean winchester, the king of repression and masking (and fawning), dean who at this point is still staunchly defending john, tells a shunned kid with a harsh father to pretend in order for his father to care enough to listen to him and believe him

dean knows reasoning won't work bc he's watched it happen over and over again with sam and john

even the way matt tries to say, “but he’s my… (father)” feels like he’s coming over to dean’s point of view; that matt as a son respects his father to enough to tell the truth and no matter how much they’ve fought, that should trump everything. but dean still insists he lies. and matt tells the truth. and his father doesn’t listen

there's no way they intentionally made dean subconsciously know that a man raising his son in a mimicry of how john raised them wouldn't respect or trust his son enough to believe him about something potentially life threatening after half a season of john ignoring them about something potentially life threatening

right?

I feel like I was on the move the whole day today, but I don’t know where the time went??? Woke up, went to a meeting, from there to a grocery store, came back home and left to the gym after a quick snack, was home for like 2h before leaving to the campus again and went to a grocery store (again yes bc forgot things lol). I just got back home and now I should start winding down for sleep ?? Like tf where did this day go, why do I feel like I got nothing done but still was productive ?? Is this what life is like for ppl who aren’t home 24/7 ???
