Being a “Fun Fact !” kind of autistic is all fun and games until you get halfway through sharing an interesting tidbit and realize that it probably wasn’t appropriate to share in polite company and now you have to deal with the consequences :(

I really feel like one of the best details in “A Scandal in Bohemia” that I never see people fixate on enough is that the story starts with Watson stopping in to see Holmes at Baker Street on a complete whim, because he happens to see that he’s home (and Watson is now married and living elsewhere). Like he doesn’t send word first, he’s not invited, he just shows up and surprises Holmes. Which is not that weird but then Holmes is like “oh good, I’ve got a case anyway, you might as well hang out!” which just makes it funnier when the King shows up and is like “I’d really rather speak to you alone, actually” and Watson tries to leave and Holmes is just like “anything you can say to me, you can say to my best friend John Watson, and if you ask him to leave, I would consider it a grave insult, you would be my enemy and I will not help you ever!!” And the king is like “…ok” and just moves on.
like, that is crazy behavior. Holmes is talking about how there’s probably lots of money in this case, and then almost turns away the client for…not knowing who the fuck Watson is?? He’s not even supposed to be there?? He just came to say hi?? “It is both or none”… girl, GET UP.

I feel like this project to me represents, and hopefully to the people that love it too, is a positive representation of queer love at the highest level.

A (5 star) review of Bury Your Gays, by @drchucktingle!
Tumblr media
I read this book in one sitting. I did not plan to read this book in one sitting, but I could not put it down, accepting that my lunch break was now an extended reading break. Bury Your Gays was just that good.
It starts simple. Screenwriter Misha has been told by his exec that the season finale of his show must out, then kill the two leads. He needs to bury his gays because the board has determined it's where the money is. Misha says no. Then starts getting stalked by his (definitely fictional, right?) characters from other shows. Either Misha developed some incredible supernatural powers in that meeting, or something more sinister is at work…
Bury Your Gays illustrates why queer people should be allowed to tell the stories they want to tell, instead of being made to use queerbating, tragic tropes, or fake relentless optimism in the name of corporate Pride. It's a story about the queer struggle to find oneself in a world that makes it so, so hard. There's a lot of love for the queer community poured into this book, and oh does it shines. I especially adored the ace rep - and the concept of ace rep as a plot point. I shall not explain further. However, I am more scared than ever of the corporatization of Pride.
Bury Your Gays also criticizes capitalism's monetization of tragedy and exploitation of workers. It explores what happens when ethics are ignored in the name of an ever-growing profit margin, to the point where the bottom line becomes a near-sentient thing. It leans into the horrors of AI and data-mining by combining the two and going all the way with it. Chuck Tingle has acknowledged all my fears of black box algorithms and also made them ten times worse. Truly a feat! I will be sleeping with my router off!
It's a masterpiece of horror, both visceral and psychological. Since the main character is a horror writer, the story is very genre aware. There's a lot of fun to be had in the tale of "writer being followed by the monsters he wrote," and certainly no small amount of terror. It gets gory here and there, with plenty of suspense in between. Hints are laid out for the reader, enough where I was occasionally able to predict what was coming just a page or two before it landed. My jaw dropped multiple times! The writing is descriptive enough to pull you right in (and gross you out!), and it's paced near-perfectly. There's all these little moments sprinkled in that elevate the whole story, from fun references of other work to subtle clues you'll only catch on a reread.
This book will be living in my head rent-free from now on. It's about so many things and yet has interwoven them all perfectly. Fans of classic horror movies will love this story. Those of us fed up with AI generated trash will love it. Anyone who joined a WGA picket line will love it. Asexuals fed up with lack of representation will love it. People who watched multiple seasons of Supernatural will love it. Is that you? Go pick up Bury Your Gays. Be scared, be sad, be angry. But also validated, loved, and joyful.
TLDR: Read this book when it comes out on July 9!

I went to wondercon! I had a ton of fun with my friends and buying too many books which I then carried around for 10 hours but I also got to meet @drchucktingle, as well as get my copy of Straight signed and I wanted to show off.
And honestly we already knew it but man he is so sweet, he jumped up to take pictures with everyone who stopped by to get a book signed. They had Camp Damascus on sale at the booth, seriously go read it if you haven’t already. Chuck tingles horror is so cathartic and lets out so much anger and pain and hope and it’s so good man.

Notes after watching the full Behind the Scenes of Agatha All Along posted on Nov 13th 2024:
There was no way they could have written an ending for Agatha that did not involve death.
I have been saying this to all the naysayers from the get-go, to all the people making posts about being done or fed up or angry about the ending, or how it makes no sense, or how they should have could have done something different and been fine story wise. The behind the scenes confirmed my point.
The main through line for the entire show was the theme of Death; of Agatha never being able to escape it. Where she both loves and hates death and Death, the concept and the woman. Where she's been running from Death for centuries, but Death came for her son and was always coming for her the second she slowed down.
Every completed trial meant someone would die. Billy created the road based off the rumors and witch lore. And the only rumors out in the witch world were that someone knew someone else's aunt/relative/friend who had undertaken the road and never returned. In reality, that was Agatha's doing. But to Billy, it meant that somehow, the Road took its toll on them. And when the coven traveled it, the Road exacted the same price that Billy expected it to. Death or near death at every trial.
The first trial killed Sharon. The second gave Alice her power back and then Billy almost died (and probably would have if Agatha hadn't pleaded with Rio on his behalf, if the coven hadn't worked together, and if Billy hadn't made the Road with his own powers. Some interesting combo of the all the above). The third trial killed Alice who was trying to save Agatha. And the fourth trial killed Lilia and the Salem Seven.
Jac said she intentionally wrote it where Death was a very real thing that everyone in the show had to come to terms with.
And for Jen Kale, her gift was already dead, and she was supposed to resurrect it and take her own power back. She escaped because after Agatha's trial, the fifth one, someone DID die.
And this time it was Agatha.
Agatha had avoided it every other time by either being saved, or having the rest of the coven as fodder for death.
But in the end, when she could have left once again, she must decide who has to pay the final price for her invention of the Road. The Road that she has used to kill and lure countless witches to their doom over the past few centuries.
She can save the boy she has come to love and mentor after the loss of her son. Or, she can leave once again. And so she makes the final moment of self sacrifice, and chooses the final victim of the Road: Herself
She has been running from Death for centuries.
For Agatha's story to have a thematic ending that wasn't cheap or manufactured, she had to stay true to that through-line. That's how writing works. You find your themes. You write about and explore them. And you have a final consequence that determines if it's a positive arc or a negative arc for your main character.
They chose for Agatha to have a positive arc. A moment of final growth. To end the show on her finally making the right decision, even at the cost of the life she's sustained through countless centuries and via countless deaths.
There was no way the show could have ended any other way.
PS: There is no excuse to hate on it. At all.
It doesn't meet any of the criteria for the 'Bury your gays' trope. It doesn't even end Agatha’s story. But it does provide expertly written, well thought out, thematically poignant endings for all the characters in a way that satisfies their personal journey—throughout the show and the centuries.
And I am so glad they made it, and that it ended how it did. I wouldn’t want it any other way. As a writer. As an editor. As a viewer. And as a lesbian.
Agatha All Along is a masterpiece in TV writing. And I can’t wait for more.
PSS: Watch the Behind the Scenes on youtube that Marvel just posted. It’s super good and includes all sorts of info to help with fic writing and just general understanding of the writing and show creation. Also lots of Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza in interviews!
TLDR: Quit complaining and griping about the ending. It was written beautifully. The reason you got so invested is because of all the heavy death elements throughout that made things mean something. Embrace it. Or find media where you were the target audience. Cause if you couldn’t handle something well written that ends like this, you weren’t the target audience. And that’s okay. But move on before you keep griping and causing issues with the community and the cast.

Spoilers for bury your gays by Chuck tingle under the cut but GOD I need to talk about this book
I was so so worried that Zeke was going to end up being in on the whole plot against Misha. He was constantly described as the perfect boyfriend, so caring and attentive and always knowing what he needs and I've consumed enough horror to know that often things are too good to be true so I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop for like half the book. I also thought maybe the Zeke and Tara who were touched by Mrs. Why might have been the nanobots and that it would be another ruse to make him lose it. Thank god they weren't

part of me is so so mad at the izcourse (beyond it being utterly stupid and baseless in its premise) mainly for it taking away all of Izzy's growth from him idk like we should have ended the season celebrating how he turned it around and how it's never too old to let go of things that hurt you and others and how even getting to experience joy however short lived is worth taking that step towards healing, how dying surrounded by friends and people who love you is actually everything it's cracked up to be, and how knowing you're ready to go and you've done what you came to do is in fact the point of it it all. Like we should've had pages and pages of stuff talking about his arc and yet...

ppl for real out here calling themselves "gay and straight" instead of just saying bisexual. or like. theyll be like "im both a lesbian and a gay man" as if its some wild and new thing for you to define your sexuality based on who you happen to be dating at that moment. biphobia isnt new sir. and no this is not me hating on an "identity i dont understand" either. i undrrstand that you are genderfluid, bisexual, or both, and harboring deeply rooted biphobic ideas.
you think youre "gayer" than other bisexuals. you think youre "more sapphic" than other bisexuals. you think you understand gender, gender nonconformity, and genderfluidness more than any other bisexual possibly could. and you also think that these thoughts are somehow good and enlightening rather than shallow, bigoted, closeminded. you need to sit down and think about why you are so disgusted with the idea being bisexual

steve harrington dying is so easily predictable that i dont want it to happen. yes it would be heartbreaking, but i want any and all character deaths to be unpredictable but make sense 100% story wise
but then again they have killed off all the other privileged people in the show, such as jason, billy, brenner, and bob. so assuming the same trend, the other straight, white, male character has a high chance of dying

they’re not reylo because osha isn’t sidelined from the narrative to support his goals. from her perspective we see how it makes complete sense why someone like her, (a dedicated, loving yet outcasted former jedi) is questioning where she belongs. Qimir may want to use her and obviously feigning kindness to get her to trust him, but he also genuinely wants a pupil that unlocks the power of the dark side. And he sees that power in osha and it’s this obsession with her that’s undeniably tempting especially for someone who hasn’t quite been given back the loyalty and devotion that she openly offers.
its “toxic” because it’s supposed to be. and we love watching these dynamics unfold because they reflect the ugly truths of human nature. we do things to feel love even if it’s in artificial forms. we incessantly give with the illogical hopes that we might receive something back. how the dark side pulls someone such as osha therefore becomes realistic. and what is more appealing than to allow yourself recognition you never had. to let your emotions be unrestrained and even be your greatest strength. what else could you do when someone finally tells you that there’s more out there for you, and can grant you unspeakable power that’s always been just out of reach
