The Great War -141 & Vladimir Makarov

Based on a request:

with the new mw3, lets do angst, something along the lines of “Somewhere in the haze, got a sense i’ve been betrayed” coming from us because 141 betrayed us horribly, which ended up in us getting tortured and then we pretennd its fine when it isnt. forget and forgive we lie and when we meet with Makarov, we tell them, ‘oops sorry, forgot i was also a enemy at some point, guess its time to betray like real enemies do’ and as we set Makarov free, we show that we have been working as his spy ever since they betrayed us. also can this be with a female reader and we also marry makarov behind their backs so thats why we betray so hard? i love u! ---- F!Reader, soldier!reader, enemy!reader, betrayal, mentions of war and violence ----

Part 1, Part 2

One was set to win. That win would set a new record for all criminals and good men. This is how modern warfare changes for the better and worse of us.

This is the great war.

"So, how will we do this?" Price asks Laswell, who was looking at the board of pinned suspects and the three main targets. A love triangle, what a mistake and blessing this was for the three people involved. "I gathered some intel, I know that tension is high with Makarov and R/N. My source tells me Ghost is driving a line between the two lovers and we will use that leverage." Amongst all the people looking for the three criminals, there was an underground world that wanted their story to succeed. After all, what is evil without danger? 

Meanwhile, somewhere in Amsterdam. 

"Simon, stop-"

"R/N, he isn't going to make us last long," Ghost tried to reason his idea for throwing Makarov to the dogs that the soldiers around the world were. "We are not killing my fucking husband, I am not going to give him to Laswell so she can send him to prison." The gun in your hands is cleaned from the fresh blood. 

Everyone knew that this is what always kills such powerful villains. Love the fact that someone else was introduced to the already steady team. Simon was a liability, there was no lie there but what he brings to the table is stronger. His background runs deep and he knows best. 

Soldiers on both sides train, wanting their idea of 'Good' to win. In war, there is no good. It is all bad and cruel, even if you are told you are on the good side of history, you know deep inside, that for one story there are two sides, so you will always be a villain no matter what. 

Six months and five days and now you find yourself in a meeting room. Vladimir tells soldiers the plan, Ghost giving you a look and then you looking at your husband. His hand holds yours, "We are doing this to end those who think they have better us and we will crush them. 

It was a nightmare for Task Force 141 to fight against their own. 

There you were, opposite sides of the line. Guns in hand, bombs waiting to explode and you, holding Vladimir's hand. The first gun shot fired and it was to the opposing team. 

This is how all wars begin. 

Price had minor scratches, Gaz with a minor wound to his shoulder and Soap, running across the hills to place bombs and ready himself for what came. On the other side, snipers were on hold, Ghost commanding them. Vladimir commits crimes as his militia moves closer to the targets. 

Skies roar, rain and thunder fall but no one has any reason to stop. One must win, they all think and dream of. 

Three weeks into this and there you stood, watching as both sides created good-faith treaties. Ghost gives you a knowing look and you shake your head. "No, we're not going with that plan," you oppose but the man with the final word is Makarov. 

"My love, there is no other choice," his hands take hold of your face. "No, we're not doing that. Please, let's not do this, Vlad," you plead and he kisses your forehead. 

As he told you the steps to this dreaded plan, all went silent. Life flashed as his words continued. Everyone in that room watched as you shed tears, as you held your husband and as you continued to refuse the plan. 

"I'll see you soon," Vladimir kisses your forehead and leaves the room. His men holding you back. "Ghost," you say out of desperation but all he does is give you a small head shake. "Sorry," he whispers and leaves. 

Once you had calmed down, you were guided to Makarov's private office, where you just awaited with grief. 

Out in the field, Vladimir turns to Ghost. "We fight or die, you hear me?" "Loud and clear," Ghost says back and they both go into position. 

141 and Konni Group made up floors with blood and gun shells. It was a blood bath and one that would guarantee some repercussions. 

One shot made the surrounding areas fall silent. 

"Enemy down," Ghost says over the radio.

Vladimir looks up at Ghost. "You sonovabitch," Vladimir tries to sit up but Ghost presses his boot to his throat. "You took men I worked with down back in London, and rest assured it won't happen again." Ghost pointed his gun to the side of Makarov. "And don't worry, your widow will be occupied as you burn in hell." His finger is close to the trigger. 

"Don't you dare hurt her!"

"Who said anything about hurting? She will be a widow for a short time, soon or later, that widow will become my wife."

Ten minutes later, Ghost knocks on the door. You open it expecting to find him and Makarov but he hands you Makarov's gun and he shakes his head. "No, please...please tell me this isn't true," you begin to cry. "I'm sorry. I tried to stop him but-"

"Stop him?"

"He committed suicide" The lie left Ghost's lips. 

"No, no that isn't true. He would never-"

"R/N, I saw him, I tried to reason with him but...nothing worked and I was there too late, I'm sorry." He hugs you. 

Then the conversation he told you before stepping out of the meeting room made more sense. 

"If me and Ghost don't make it back to the office, you grab your bag and go to Switzerland. A home has been set for you, it's a peaceful place and I know it'll be difficult to move on but my love, you have to. Don't look back and live a long life. There is a bank account that has billions of dollars in it. You use that money for whatever you please. I love you," he kissed your hands and sighed. 

Many will win. Many will die. Many will go home and just like Makarov, many will die on cold frozen ground, away from their loved ones and away from home. 

Back at the 141 HQ. 

"Laswell, explain it!" Price said through gritted teeth. 

"Fine." She sat down and lit her cigarette. 

"I made R/N fall for Makarov. I was the reason they met. I sent all of you away from her and I made her and Ghost stay behind so she could have some rendevous with Makarov. You wanted Makarov dead and you got it."

"You fucking lied to us," Gaz mentions. 

"No, I didn't lie. I just didn't tell you the truth of the real plan."

"And what is the real plan?" Soap questions.

"Unbeknownst to everyone but me and Ghost, I made R/N fall for Makarov. Who do you think gave her the advice to marry her prohibited love? I knew Ghost fell for R/N long before Makarov came into the picture. So I made a deal. He and R/N live a life away from worry and in exchange, he betrays us and kills Makarov. It's crazy how far love goes." 

"Alex was right about you," Gaz mentions and Laswell shakes her head. "Gentlemen, you got what you wanted. Makarov is dead and Russia is in talks to prevent another attack. We all win."

"Why not imprison him?" Soap asks. 

"He would escape. So, Ghost came up with the plan to kill Makarov as he pretended to be on the side of Konni. It's not a complicated scheme," Laswell crosses her legs and lets out a puff of smoke. 

"You made us believe Ghost betrayed us-"

"What about R/N? Did she know about this plan of yours?" Price, as the older brother he was to you asks. 

"She didn't know and as far as I'm concerned, she believes Makarov committed suicide. He even went out of his way to make her life away from the military comfortable and gave her nearly 2 billion dollars so she could live comfortably. If only he knew that Ghost would also enjoy those riches," she chuckles and stands up. 

"Go rest," she advises and leaves the room. 

In every story, there will always be villains.

For any curious on my aus, here's some basic lore.

Between the Screen Au

Basic info: Rewrite of the Epic Mickey games with darker themes and slight cast changes. I.e. Fanny is temporary leader while Oz guards Mickey Junk Mt, loads of really old designs for most of the toons, etc.

Summary: Mickey sneaks into a closed off studio room within Yen Sid's lair. Intrigued by the mystical looking paint brush, he begins to paint himself only for it to distort and attack him. With a sponge and thinner, he tries to wipe away his creation. He leaves the room believing he erased the creature. He was wrong as little did he know that his action lead to the downfall of an entire world. Years past and Mickey raises to fame. One night he is swept away into a place toons of ages past dwell. Can he fix his mistakes and mend a relationship that could have been? Who knows.

Epic Mickey : Tale of 2 Brothers

Basic Info: Another au that rewrites Epic Mickey, but brings back the old concepts and story where Ozzy is an anti-hero and Mickey can go feral.

Summary: Oswald is the humble king of Wasteland that works hard to give everything he's got to forgotten toons. However, his obsession for admiration and justice lead him to take drastic measures. An alliance between the Mad Doctor and an inky beast called the Blot leads them to seek revenge on the toon responsible for their circumstances. Mickey is dragged into Wasteland and adventures the land in hopes of returning back home. Both brothers will have to make the right decisions for this story to end well.

Rising Star

Basic Info: Somewhat parody of Walt's rise to fame. Toons and humans co-exist. Various old toons appear like Felix, Gerdy, Flip, etc. Look is like Roger rabbit. Follows from like the 1920s to modern day.

Summary: Michael and Oswald love their little rural life, but yearned for bigger dreams. Oswald eventually builds enough income to head out to California to make it big. He gets noticed for his talent and charm by a director and becomes a star. A year passes and Michael later joins in his brother's footstep to be a star. Both learn that making it big isn't all glitz and glam.

Toons & Dungeons

Basic Info: D&D inspired universe. Mainly focuses on the Disney Brothers, but other toons will appear. Story is very rough as this is an old au that changed from an RPG based idea to D&D, which I have little knowledge off.

Summary: Orphans Mick and Ozzy were inseparable as they roamed the streets of Fantasia. A run in with the Blox lead the two to be separated. Oswald was cursed to never be remembered by his loved ones after escaping from the Blox. He takes refuge with people called Gremlins who raise him as one of their own. The only thing he wants is to lift this curse and re-unite with his brother. Mickey is a traveling bard on a quest to find something he's lost. The only clue he's got is someone important to him, a brother? A friend? If only he could remember what his name was or what he looked like.

Ink & Mirrors

Basic Info: An old Bendy and the Ink machine au that's been slightly revamped. Main cast is Epic Mickey, Bendy cast, Cuphead cast, and Felix cast alongside cameos of other toons or ocs. Most lore is based on the first game with little humans in it, basically really early days of Bendy theories. It has a parallel story, but it is mostly the same in how it would go.

Summary: Bendy has been trapped in this crummy studio for years and envies the toons that are more beloved them him. He already dealt with his damn creator, so why not have some good cartoon fun? Toons have been going missing and mysterious letters appear to some that ask them to visit an old studio. Some visit or stumble into it after encounter strange black ink. Little do these toons know that this place was never suppose to be found.

Toon High

Basic Info: An old High school au. Walt High, Universal High, and Warner High. Not much else to go on, it's just school. Various toons can appear, but again this focuses on Disney mainly. Story is never gonna be concrete and barely used. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Summary: Mickey and Oswald have had a rocky relationship ever Mickey came into the family. One was joyous to have an older brother while the other was indifferent. Oswald is transferred to Walt High after Universal High doesn't work out. Mickey is happy be going to high school with his big brother, but his brother would rather be anywhere else. Maybe the two can finally work out their differences.

Magic Island

Basic Info: Animal crossing

Summary: Elias finds out that a new island get-away is being opened by Tom Nook. Him and his brother Clover travel to the island for a change of view and potential new home. New friends and a hard-working leader are what welcomes the brothers to their new home.

Local Toons

Basic Info: Everyone's a kid. Minor angst as this is more like slice of life. Style is black and white.

Summary: The Disney brothers love their rural life and love to help around the town. Various shenanigans ensue and new friends come and go.

P.D. Toons (Public Domain Toons)

Basic Info: Public domain toons that I made my own. Their origins are still there but nothing like the originals. Every toon has a new name. I.e. Willy = Mickey, Oliver = Oswald, etc. These are just for fun so not much lore.

Summary: Slice of life like stories or illustrations. Nothing big.

MONTHLY MEDIA: July 2024

I read a lot more than I was expecting this month but I ain't complaining. Here's how I spent the month of July!

……….FILM……….

Evil Dead II (1987) Didn't love Evil Dead (not that it's not good, I just get too spooked by straight horror) but had no idea that this would be what it is. Puppets and stop motion! Looney Tune antics! Magic with rules! This is my kinda movie and I'm baffled the modern films in the franchise don't try for this sort of energy.

Poor Things (2003) It took a while for me to settle into this, but around the time Dafoe's Godwin explains Bella's condition, I was all in. It's a dreamlike movie with dreamlike logic so despite some of the discourse I tried not to take too much of it literally. Beautiful and far funnier than I expected.

……….TELEVISION……….

Columbo (Episode 1.04 to 1.07) Gosh I love the era of television where each episode was self-contained. Episode 7 features Columbo smoking in a doctor's office and I was not at all expecting him to comment on the dangers of tobacco, but he did! I notice this first season only had a handful of episodes with the classic "oh one more thing" schtick so I'm curious if that pops up more in later seasons.

Scavenger's Reign (Episode 1.01 to 1.12) This is a show where I sit down, turn it on, and while the beautiful opening credits play, think, "I wonder what horrifying imagery is gonna f*** me up this episode?" The animation and design are sooooooo good that it made up for the occasionally baffling writing. Please go watch it so a second season can get greenlit.

Bridgerton (Episode 3.05 to 3.08) I missed a few eps there in the middle but it all worked. That final party, and all that went with it (the speech, the bugs, the reveal of who paid for it) was 10/10. Good stuff.

Yoko and The Beatles by Lindsay Ellis Yoko Ono didn't break up the Beatles. And while this video essay expands on the factors that DID split up the band, it's also a really great dive into the weight of fame and the weight of fame on women. VIDEO

Was starting a product business a mistake? by Simone Giertz An honest and detailed insight into the dream vs. reality of small business and internet fame. Looks like it's going to be a full series and I'm looking forward to more. VIDEO

N or M by Agatha Christie (Complete) Spy Thriller set during the Second World War? With a husband/wife spy duo? Oh heck yeah. Sometimes I find the clues to be a little convoluted/unnecessarily obscure but this one struck a great balance of visible but easily forgettable.

The Knight of the Swords by Michael Moorcock (Complete) Having first read the comic adaptation (penciled by Mike Mignola!) I now realize some of my issues (pacing, understanding the abstract) work better in novel form. An elevated pulp adventure that has some great ironic twists.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula or The Adventure of the Sanguinary Count by Loren D. Estleman (Complete) Thrift find purchased based on the premise alone. Exactly what you'd expect but not much beyond that. It's at its best when you get Dracula directly interacting with Holmes and/or Watson.

Spider-Verse by Dan Slott, Christos N. Gage, Mike Costa, Dennis Hopeless, and many many more (Complete) Really enjoyed reading this but am baffled by its production. Why the issues aren't collected in chronological order, I'll never know. I know the book is over ten years old now but the writing (especially all of the Spider-Women) really stands out as...not great. All but the Superior Spider-Man essentially sound the same (perhaps the point?) but Gwen and Jess and Cindy mostly talk about things like body image and pheromones and it's glaring. I'm curious what I'll think upon a second readthrough (reading in order, and after the first wave of nostalgia has completely rinsed off) but I definitely think this story walked so the movies could break the speed of sound.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe! by Ryan North and Erica Henderson (Complete) North's writing and Henderson's artwork are the perfect blend for such a bright and enthusiastic character. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is such a great series (which I gotta go back and finish) and this is an equally great introduction to the character.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man Vol 1 by by Nick Spencer, Marcos Martin, and Steve Leiber (Complete) I was really excited for this series (the premise! the cover art!) but the pacing, humour, and art just didn't connect. Honestly really bummed that I didn't like this more.

3D6 Down the Line (Podcast) A nice change of pace from the modern D&D games I play in. They use Old School Essentials for their system (more akin to 2nd Edition D&D) and play with a mindset similar to the 70s style of play (treasure for experience, everything is lethal). I'm still having trouble distinguishing some of the voices from each other, but it's a great listen.

Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) Tuesday crew watched a peaceful inauguration and gained notoriety for saving a neighbourhood from roaming monsters (you can read all about it here!) and the Mof1 crew is dabbling in dangerous contracts with dangerous people (all for a cap that controls the winged monkeys).

The Philippines was a gorgeous country, but Manilla didn't showcase the natural beauty Jisung anticipated. When he first learned where they were going, he'd imagined the beaches, islands and jungles he remembered from his last visit to the country.

Instead, the city was dirty, noisy, hot and over-crowded. Glued to the tinted window of a black van, he adjusted his idea of the place based on the impression it now gave him. And despite the skewed memory, he loved it – precisely because it was not what he'd expected.

The hotel was not far from the airport, yet they were stuck in traffic for over an hour. The other members were chatting and acting silly to pass time, but Jisung was in his own world. He put his airpods in, and let his mind drift away.

Haechan started a v-live to entertain himself, which the members gathered around. All except Jisung, who wasn't paying any attention to his friends. His mind was on a special someone, because he knew he was about to meet her very soon.

When they arrived at the hotel, they were greeted by a whole different world to that outside. The complex was large, clean, spacious and modern. In its underground garage, safely away from the public eye, the members all stepped out and took the elevator to a luxurious private waiting room.

Despite the lack of natural light, Jisung put on his sunglasses. You never knew who you might might run into, from fans and paparazzi, to the girl he knew was somewhere in the city. A song was playing in his ears.

He genuinely felt cool and hot in his designer clothes, a sensation he thoroughly enjoyed. The lyrics, however, were wishful thinking. He was none of those things.

The boys were in town for a show. It was the final stop on their Asia leg, and they were excited for the evening, when they would meet the fans and hear their screams.

“Why are you wearing those?” Chenle asked. He sat down on an armchair next to Jisung, and let out a dolphin-like laugh.

“What?” Jisung asked with a cheeky grin.

“We're inside! She's not here yet, so you can drop the cool guy act.”

Jisung glared at his friend through the black glasses, but his smile never went away. “Who's not here?” he asked to play dumb. ”I don't know what you're talking about.”

Haechan stepped between them from behind and placed an arm on each of their shoulders. “You know exactly what he's talking about,” he said. “And I'm telling you, it's not going to work. My sister doesn't date babies.”

“Who are you calling a baby?” Jisung asked and sneered. Chenle let out a loud laugh, a huge grin on his face. Haechan smiled and shook his head.

The person Jisung was interest in was Haneul, Haechan's younger sister. They had met before, five months prior, when Haechan had his family visiting in Seoul, and some of the members joined them for dinner. Jisung and Haneul had immediately hit it off, and though they hadn't talked since, he often dreamed of her beautiful face. He had even stalked her on social media. He had developed a crush, and it was important that tonight went perfectly.

Haneul and her parents had scheduled a holiday to coincide with this step of the tour. They'd all meet the family after the show, where Jisung had plans to ask her out. He wanted to take her to dinner as soon as they were back in Korea.

Haneul thought Jisung was cute. He was manly for his boyish look, and quite interesting to talk to. But Haechan was right, he was not the type of boy Haneul would ever bring home to meet her parents. As handsome and mature as she thought he was, he was a few years younger than her. She normally dated older guys.

When the boys got their key cards and luggage, and had settled in their spacious suites, they wanted to check out the hotel facilities. There was a private pool area located on the roof, used by celebrities and VIP guests who stayed on the top floor. There were only four suites, but they were large and luxurious, and because this was the final stop in Asia, the company had decided to spoil the members. The floor was theirs, and the pool was private for them to enjoy, away from the public and prying eyes.

Jisung shared his suite with Haechan. Together, they exited the room and took the stairs to the roof, where the scorching sun hit their bodies. As their eyes adjusted to the bright light and clear blue sky, they were greeted by a beautiful sight.

There was a main pool surrounded by palm trees, a white mosaic wall with a door from which they came, wooden sun chairs with towels neatly laid out on top, and a self-service bar at the far end to the left. Beyond the pool, a magnificent view of the city presented itself.

To the right, there was a second, smaller pool in a secluded area, surrounded by potted plants with large, lush leaves. The whole roof was an oasis of serenity, though the sounds of the busy city below could be heard even up here.

Chenle and Renjun were standing by a railing near the main pool, looking out over the city. Jisung and Haechan joined them.

“Wow, gorgeous,” Jisung said. The boys nodded in agreement as they took it all in.

Chenle turned to Haechan. “When's your family coming?” he asked.

“They'll be at the concert tonight,” Haechan said. “You'll meet them after.”

“I'm sure Jisung can't wait,” Renjun teased.

Haechan and Chenle joined him in laughter, but Jisung only smiled. His heart beat a little faster just thinking about Haneul, but he didn't want to show it. Clearly, he had failed already. He felt nervous and excited about seeing her again, and the boys knew.

The door in the wall opened and Jeno stepped out. “Come on guys,” he shouted across the rooftop. ”We've got to get going.”

They left the railing and city view behind, walked past the pool and palm trees, and stepped inside. Their eyes adjusted to the relative darkness of the hallway inside, as they disappeared into the bowels of the hotel.

Naturally, the show was a big success. As they came down from the adrenaline rush of their performance, they sat down behind the stage. The crowd was still going wild in the arena, but people were starting to disburse.

Haechan disappeared for a few minutes. His family was led from the audience to a door as the arena emptied out, and behind it they hugged and kissed their son and brother. He was proud to have them there, and modestly accepted their praise.

Jisung and the others were waiting in the dressing room. When they saw the family they all stood up, and bowed in respect as introductions were made. When Jisung met Haneul's eyes, his heart beat faster and he bowed a little deeper.

The evening was followed by a late dinner at the hotel, together with the management team. Haechan's family had been invited too. Sitting next to each other, Jisung and Haneul picked up a conversation, just as they had five months prior. His feelings for her were not just a physical crush, but a genuine interest in her as a person. They had a lot in common, he thought, and though Haechan insisted he wasn't her type, she seemed to take an interest too.

“Hey Haneul,” Haechan suddenly said from across the table, snapping them out of their conversational bubble. “Tomorrow we have a day off before we leave for Europe. Why don't you join us on the hotel roof? We have our own pool.”

“I'd love to,” Haneul replied and smiled. She wasn't keen on sightseeing with her parents. Some quality time with her brother and his friends would be a great start to her week-long holiday.

That night, Jisung was in a t-shirt and boxers in bed, staring at the ceiling in the darkness of the suite. He had trouble falling asleep. The loud music and cheers from fans in the arena were still ringing in his ears, and his body was tired from the hectic schedule of the past few weeks. Haneul was also on his mind. He simply couldn't stop thinking about her.

He lifted his head from the pillow and looked around. The suite was spacious and open, with Jisung's large double bed along a wall in the far end of the living room, and Haechan's at the opposite side. Between them, to his right, a little light from the city shone through scattered gaps in the thick, black curtains of the wall-to-ceiling windows, and from his position he could make out a sofa and a coffee table, as well as the foot of Haechan's bed far away. The place was far more luxurious than they were used to. Management really had spoiled them this time around.

“Haechan,” he whispered. “Haechan, are you awake?”

There was no response, and no movement under the covers of Haechan's bed.

In need of a relaxing moment, and reasonably assured that Haechan couldn't hear him so far away, Jisung reached under the duvet and into his underwear. He was already hard. With Haneul on his mind, he grabbed the shaft and began stroking it. Slowly, while listening intently, he moved his hand up and down.

When he sped up, the noises he made grew louder. The mattress rocked gently against the bed frame. The sound of his arm against the duvet, and his head against the pillow, felt deafening to his heightened senses, though they were hardly a whisper. His body was hot and his breathing became heavy. He opened his mouth slightly to let out air as quietly as he could.

To reduce the heat and the noise of the bed sheets he kicked the duvet down, exposing his body to cool, fresh air. a redo of the eyewitness dinosaur hunter game for the modern era (but obviously without the eyewitness brand) - so a 3D virtual museum environment with an on-site dig that brings dinos back to life. would include the history of birds after the end-cretaceous.

a redo of the magic school bus explores the age of dinosaurs game (doesn't have to be associated with magic school bus, a cute kulinda protag will work fine) - so a point and click game where you go to different environments, learn about the history of life, play mini experiments and mini games to learn, etc.

a museum tycoon game (why the fuck doesn't this already exist) (I have an elaborate system in my head that would include ethical collection and museum reputation as important factors)

prehistoric photo safari - you go back in time to different ecosystems and take pictures of various things you're asked to take pictures of, like "a pennaraptoran preening" or "a tyrannosaur family group" that kind of thing

an aviary zootycoon/planet zoo esque game - basically you're creating a zoo but it's only birds. I'm not bitter about planet zoo, no, whose asking.

or just another zoo simulator that's a better spiritual successor to zoo tycoon than planet zoo is, so it would include aquatic and extinct stuff like the zoo tycoons always did >_> also more birds

the same idea as above but now it includes fossil/extinct birds too, you're welcome

a game where you go back in time and gather prehistoric life and bring them back to the present and try to recreate extinct ecosystems, with an emphasis on ecosystem dynamics

similarly, an ecosystem simulator like tyto-ecology except... better. and still being developed. and mostly focused on extinct ecosystems.

a stardew-style farming game but you're ravens in a post-human world, creating a new society from scratch. as birds.

a bajillion different @saurian-game - like games set in different environments including the Manda Beds of the Triassic, the Jiufotang Formation of the Jurassic, literally anything other than the red beds of the Permian, Fossil Lake in the Eocene... the list goes on

domesticated Kulindadromeus sheephearder game (@paleopinesofficial you can just steal this idea and put it in your game, that's fine)

fossil stories - basically you live the life of different extinct animals based on their fossils, so dueling/fighting dinosaurs and stuff like that. it would be your basic choose your own adventure story type dealio.

a dinotopia video game. that's it. that's the entire concept. maybe something like simcity or the sims but in dinotopia. there's something there.

jewish themed stardew valley (this isn't dinosaur/bird or prehistoric life related, I'm just annoyed at the christonormativity in stardew [why does xmas exist in this alternate universe] and want to make a jewish version out of spite)

pet parrot simulator. mainly so that people who love parrots but really can't care for them can play the game. also so people who are thinking of getting a parrot can play the game and find out if they really can take care of one. I recognize pet simulators exist but they're never really accurate when it comes to parrot care.

I know I have more but these are the best ones. The ones I come back to the most are the museum tycoon game, the prehistoric photo safari game, and the redo of the magic school bus dino game; and @raptorcivilization is keeping the dream alive for the remake of the eyewitness game.

White Horse: fun fact! White horses have always been a fairytale symbol throughout ancient history so this symbol would translate well to medieval times. The idea of not being a princess or someone chasing after your hand with promise of a horse are also relatable medieval imagery. 8/10 due to some confusing and modern dialect.

You Belong With Me: 😳 what is happening? There's something here about unrequited love but the details are all lost. 2/10

Breathe: medieval friendships were usually a contractual agreement and the few positive and real friendships were reserved for men as masculinity was seen as a holy state and and only masculine beings could have real friends. This song is likely about 2 men having a falling out. Not super relatable but it mostly makes sense. 4/10

Tell Me Why: is this about a physical fight? Are knights facing off? Is this about lovers?? I'm a little lost on context. 5/10 just because everything but bullets and shots makes sense

You're Not Sorry: what happened here 😳 someone MESSED UP. Who knows what a phone is but this song hit deep. 9/10

The Way I Loved You: passion vs sensibility. A secret lover vs someone who is committed. Marriage is very rarely romantic, so this song feels very relatable. 8/10 because the acting insane is a bit questionable. Why are you risking being accused of witchcraft?

Forever & Always: this sounds like a devastating divorce. Perhaps there was an agreement with another women? That is one of several grounds for divorce and it would track with the anger in this song. Unfortunate. 3/10

The Best Day: pumpkins? Tractor? Car? Video? There's too many anachronisms to listen with ease but some lyrics still can hit. 5/10

Change: Are the serfs revolting??? Good for them! This song is so hopeful! 10/10 even though it's unrealistic.

Come In With The Rain: (tbh, my twilight analysis of this song made this one really difficult) this is likely about another serf living on the masters property and it sounds scandalous. Clandestine affairs are not aligned with the medieval Christian values. 3/10

Superstar: Is this about a traveling performer or nobility visiting the town? Another song about being into the guy every girl will offer her dowry to, this time with more anachronisms. 4/10

Don't You: this album is full of unrequited love. I can imagine walking into the market place and seeing the peasant from two properties over with the woman he ended up choosing. Then he DARES to ask how you are? I don't like it. This is too much. 3/10

Bye Bye Baby: this is DEFINITELY a divorce song. I mean... a traditional couple meets at their wedding and these two used to share a bed so.... The sadness of the singer leads me to question the cause of divorce. Did he commit a crime? Were they spiritually related? Did he have relations with another woman? I have more questions than answers. 2/10

Hello everybody, I wanted to share a little (modern) Linked Universe AU that have been living rent free in my head for months. It’s based on a reddit story (that I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it still very interesting anyway).  If you have some time, please give it a little read <3

Legend and Ravio met at college. It was now the end of finals week, so of course they wanted to celebrate. Not only that, Legend was going to – finally-  ask Ravio out. Like, c’mon, he was not a coward, why had he hesitated so much?!

They are walking together on campus, passing by Twilight and Wild who were playing a game, Twilight waved but Legend was way to nervous to notice. Finally, he looks at Ravio and thinks “this is it”. He opens his mouth, feels a sudden intense pain in his head, and falls like a sack of potatoes.

He wakes up maybe 10 seconds later, with Ravio desperately calling his name. To his left, he sees Wild looking worried, and Twilight looking mortified. Before he can even think of saying anything, Twilight starts apologizing profusely. Turns out he and Wild were playing football, and he accidentally hit Legend right in the head with the ball. Legend sits, shakes his head, and comes to the conclusion that besides a strong headache, he is okay, despite Ravio’s protests that he should go to the campus nurse.  

He didn’t asked Ravio out that night. Legend is paranoiac at best, and that ball in the head felt maybe like a –literal- sign from above that confessing to Ravio wasn’t the best idea. Not only that, Hilda, Ravio’s sister, always looked at him like she was silently but strongly judging  if Legend deserved to be so close to her dear brother; and Shadow, Ravio’s best friend, looked like he had already left the judgment phase behind, and the sentence was that he hated Legend guts. Maybe they were right.

So Legend tried to move on. After another year and a half he finally finished college, and in a bout of luck, he won first prize at his favorite music store: a one month vacation to a isolated and beautiful paradisiacal island; Koholint. What better way to celebrate the conclusion of his college life? Ravio accompanied him to the ship, and looked sad to see him go. Legend calmed him, it’s only a month. He will be back soon. Ravio hugged him, and that hug lingered for perhaps more than it should, but no one really wanted to let it go. But then, way too soon for Legend’s tastes, it was time to board the ship. It’s okay, Legend thought.

It’s just a month.  

As he left the ship and looked around, Legend felt like he was walking right into a dream. Koholint island was way too perfect to be true. Even though he wasn’t the biggest fan of summer, the heat in his skin felt gentle, and he felt all the tension leave his shoulders.

And there, he met her. A beautiful singing voice called for him, and he couldn’t stop himself from talking to her.

Marin was beautiful. A long red hair that moved like sea waves around her shoulders, shiny brown eyes and a happy, gentle smile. Her voice was so surreal and sweet that Legend would often think that Marin was actually a mermaid who just got tired of living on the ocean. He called her attention by using his trusted ocarina to play the song she was singing, and she was overjoyed to have his company.

And just like that, one month passed. The ship was there, waiting for him. He didn’t want to go.

So he didn’t.

It didn’t take long for them to start officially dating. Also didn’t take long for Legend to ask for her hand. It was everything so perfect, why would he waste his time?  

As he kissed his now wife on their wedding day, he got himself thinking that if this was a dream then he never wanted to wake up.

Three years later, the world welcomed a little baby boy. His little baby boy. As Legend took his son in his arms for the first time, he asked himself in wonder how could he feel such intense love so quickly. He would die for this boy’s happiness if needed. The touch of Marin’s hand on his brought him back from his dazed state. He looked at her, his eyes full of tears. He never felt so complete in his whole life.

The years passed quickly, but the days extended for what seemed like years. Each precious memory burned forever in his brain. His little boy first steps. Marin’s delicious food after a long day of work. The days spent playing at the beach. The cold nights cuddling by the fireplace. The day his little baby boy –now a 19 year old man- left the island to pursue his college dreams. Every night falling to sleep to her smiling face, and everyday waking up to her gentle voice.

He was walking home, slow but steady. His walking cane on one hand and flowers for his wife on the other. Today was their 50 year anniversary , and his son was going to visit.  As he was walking, a seagull passed dangerously close to him, and he accompanied it with his eyes. When his eyes guided him to the top of Koholint’s tallest mountain, Legend stopped.

And he looked.

There was something wrong. He couldn’t for the life of him tell what, but there was something deeply wrong. He kept looking, hoping that this would somehow make the gears in his brains start to move, but it didn’t. He felt the answer at the tip of his tongue, but he couldn’t translate it into words. So he looked.

When he felt a hand on his, he finally moved his eyes from the top of the mountain, and looked at his wife, worry visible in her eyes. She asked him what was wrong. Why was he taking so long to go back home. That’s when Legend discovered that apparently he stayed at the same place, looking at the top of the mountain for hours. 3 hours to be exact. It haven’t felt like more than five minutes to him. It must be his age, he thought after some time, so he went home with his beloved. The mountain stand taller behind him.

That night, after a long celebration and the news that he was going to be a grandad, Legend stayed lying down on his bed, unable to sleep. It was that damned mountain fault. He couldn’t stop thinking about it. Before Legend could notice, he was already up and out of the house. And soon he was at the same place of that afternoon, looking at the top of the mountain.

Time got a little blurry after that. His family came to see him, increasingly more worried about his well being. But he couldn’t leave. He needed to find out what was wrong.

One day, as he felt Marin desperately beg for him to go home, to just look at her, to please, please stop giving it attention, it finally hit him. He couldn’t understand how it took him so long to see something so surreal.

There, at the top of Koholint’s tallest mountain, sit a gigantic egg.

He turn his eyes to Marin, ready to ask if she was seeing the same thing he is. That couldn’t have been there this whole time, right? As he looks in Marin’s direction, he sees nothing.

Marin is gone.

Did she leave? He was sure he had listened to her voice right now, like white noise. He went home. There was no sign of his wife or his son. Worried, he decided to look around.

It wasn’t just his family, he found no one. The island was empty.

That’s when he heard a distant voice. Hope bloomed in his heart that maybe it was Marin, but as soon as he listened close, he realized it wasn’t. However, it was familiar. A voice he thought he had long forgotten.

“Ravio?”

And he woke up.

He had his head nested between Ravio’s tights, who desperately called his name. To his left, he sees Wild looking worried, and Twilight looking mortified. Panic arises at the sudden sensation of dejavu, but before he can even think of saying anything, Twilight starts apologizing profusely. Turns out he and Wild were playing football, and he accidentally hit Legend right in the head with the ball. No, he thinks. Nonononono. This already happened, this is already long in the past.

Where’s Marin?

He tries to get up, but is hit by a wave of nausea and falls back into Ravio’s arms. Legend looks at him, despair thick in his voice.

“Where’s Marin?”

Ravio looks at him, worried, and asks “Who?”  Ravio then asks Twilight for help getting Legend up. He needs a doctor. It’s possible he have a concussion and might be delirious. Legend tries to stop them, but he is feeling way too sick and way too scared to do much. Twilight is too strong for him to be able to escape, so he just go limp, crying.

“Where’s Marin?” He asks again, but no one answers him.

“Where’s Marin?”

So yeah, Legend suffered a concussion that made he vividly fee like he lived his whole life in a place that doesn’t exist with people that aren’t real. I mean, the idea of living your whole life and then suddenly waking up in the past, in a body way to young for you, feels terrifying. Like, if this happened to you, could you just let it go? Would you be able to have a relationship without thinking that you’re cheating somehow? Are your feelings real if the person you have feelings for isn’t? Idk, I think it’s pretty fucked up. If you have any questions, ask away, because I really don’t know how this would end lol

Of course Sage helps Karlach with her heart, she helped keep her twin safe after all.

Makoto's distorted persona: Jeanne d'Arc

Yes I know I am very original. I had a much more detailed write up about Shadow Makoto about 2 months ago but school really made me forget it all 👹

Background: A national heroine of France. Born a peasant girl and through divine guidance, led the French army to restore King Charles VII during the Hundred Years' War. She was burned by the English for heresy.

Now Joan of Arc is a very famous figure and has been connected to the Niijimas and honestly just any female character who has a leadership position so Makoto having Joan of Arc as her corrupted persona is not very original but 🤷‍♀️

So besides Joan of Arc's associations with leadership and the military, she was assigned to Shadow Makoto due to her story about how she was led by 'divine voices' throughout her life. Shadow Makoto rules with an iron fist under her belief that the desires of the people that she hears are telling her to take leadership and take control over their lives. It's essentially an inversion on Joan of Arc's story as while the voices Joan of Arc heard were ultimately for the good of France, Makoto's ultimately do not help the people of Japan who become dependent on her as she dictates every bit of their lives in her position as a goddess alongside the other Phantom Thieves.

Shadow Makoto is meant to be a shadow who shakes things up. She's essentially a wake up call boss and character. As explained in Makoto's post, her palace is much more difficult to navigate and she is very ruthless towards the Infiltrators but regarding her character, she's the start of the Thieves' bad traits really getting emphasized. Ryuji, Yusuke and Haru had bad traits brought up too but they all had explanations related to trauma, Makoto's explanations have trauma as well but she's the first character who will show that the Phantom Thieves aren't shining beacons of moral righteousness and are ultimately human not just in their pasts but in their character.

Makoto is a perfectionist who showed in her intro that she believed a lot in the social hierarchy and followed the set social structure. When she joins the Phantom Thieves, she does start to see past this but she does ultimately decide to be a police commissioner which is a noble goal but her lack of second thoughts regarding becoming a member of the police shows that she still has a lot of faith in authority which the other Phantom Thieves don't have which is why her palace is very rule based and dictated by order.

The power of a god twisted Makoto to the person she could become in her path to becoming the police commissioner as reaching that position requires years and years of work and having to work in a system that is beyond broken and corrupt. Shadow Makoto 'fixed' the justice system by taking complete control of it as its leader not just as the police commissioner but as what is essentially its Empress. Technically it would be Prime Minister since her palace setup is more modern but Shadow Makoto's reign is absolute and under divine rule so Absolute Emperor is more accurate.

When Makoto is stopped and she is no longer corrupted, she would seriously reconsider her dream of being a police commissioner. It's a good dream and has some personal ties to her but she's seen firsthand how much it destroys people like her sister Sae. With her character she would most likely not give up on it entirely but she would take some time to explore other avenues of a much freer existence before throwing herself into the grueling work of police because while it is important to reform society, Makoto can't reform society when she's still stuck in her own bubble because the reason society went to shit was because it's a world filled with hundreds of thousands of millions of different people with different circumstances, wishes, dreams, etc.

Now for the appearance of Jeanne d'Arc as Shadow Makoto's corrupted persona isn't super fleshed out but an idea my friend came up with is that Jeanne d'Arc would be based on this cover on Born this Way by Lady Gaga

To give body horror and be a throwback to Johanna but obviously more twisted and corrupted. The motorcycle would be more demented as Jeanne d'Arc than Johanna to highlight the fact that its a corrupted persona but also Jeanne d'Arc was quite a violent woman which is only natural in the military but is commonly glossed over by people talking about her story.

When Jeanne d'Arc is no longer corrupted, her form changes to a chariot to highlight how Makoto is no longer taking the lone path of a ruler but the path of a leader who supports and is supported by others.

-WARNING #2, This story is not for the faint of heart. This is not something to do if you're easily overwhelmed. Do not worry, you will have a chance to review all of this and ask for changes if you wish for them. But. I already have Five Different Area References, such as Midtown Highschool. 5 different NPC’s, such as George Stacy. 3 different Villains, such as Goblin. And we're only going to be adding more as our story goes on. We will not add too much, everything we add is another thing to keep up with. But I am not your Average Role Player, and I'm not looking for an Average Role Player.

-WARNING #3, Please do not waste my time. I have been wanting to do this story since 2018, and it has evolved, and grown quite a bit. I am the most proud of this version. I have only been unable to complete this story, because I have been met with a series of ghosters. If you're not interested in taking the time to read the post below, or you know you'll just leave once you find something more interesting. If you're only here to role-play because you're motivated by the post, and days later, you'll no longer be interested. Please. This is not for you.

-Communication is key to a Good Partnership. I.R.L. should come first, but being told what's going on is much better than not being told anything at all. Nobody wants to be left in the dark for days on end. Now you don't have to report your life to me, but it's not a partnership if we are wondering if the other is ghosting. Seriously, please don't attempt this if you're going to ghost me.

-Most Role Players come from people with different Backgrounds, and Cultures, with different Experiences. Be Respectful with Opinions, Ideas, Viewpoints, ECT. Please be fluent in English, and compatible with Eastern Standard Time.

-Literate and above. Which means at Minimum A Paragraph, and a few lines of Dialogue Per Response. Don't be afraid to Add onto the Story. Make your Own Ideas and Twist the Story to your Favor. This also includes proper Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation.

-Anything changed in the Role Play, Both Role Players will have to Agree on. This includes any Art, References, Information, Plot Changes, so on. Both of us must agree on them.

-No Toxicity, or Trolling of ANY kind. Troll Profiles Will Be Ignored. I am a Serious Role Player, and while I don't mind Harmless Fun, I also came for a Role Play, and don't want my time wasted.

-Long Term Exclusive. This is NOT a Role Play to Join if you aren't capable of Long Term. True Long Term. If you are ONLY interested in a couple days worth of Role Play, have a hard time keeping consistent, or rely on dying motivation. This is not for you. Introduction ~

Greetings Everyone, I'm A 21 Year Old Literate - Novella Writer and Role Player. I have Years of Role Play Experience, and I have been Writing since I was a child. I have written plenty of stories, and a few fanfictions. Though I have never cared about any of them as much as I've cared about this.

I am Eastern Standard Time, and I'd like a Partner compatible with that. I have quite a bit of time on my hands, even at work. While I will be busy sometimes, I am almost always able to communicate. I would like to find someone who has a decent amount of free time like I do, so our story isn't progressing a few replies per week. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's not what I'm looking for here. I'm also only looking for someone who communicates often.

I'm looking to do something pretty relaxed here, only Literate, and Novella in Scenes we become carried away with. I'd just like to enjoy this Role Play. I will be putting effort into this, but please don't expect me to blow you away with every single reply. I am a third person writer, and I'd like someone who is the same.

As I say that I'm interested in doing something relaxing, I'm talking about the replies specifically. There is still Heavy World Building, and immense detail, thought, and love put into this. Please be able of reciprocating this.

As I'm sure you'll come to notice below, I am very passionate about my stories. I would like to find somebody who feels the same, who comes to love and cherish what we create.

Role Play Setting -

First and foremost, I would like to mention that I do not have a “ set “ plot for this role play. There is one reason for this, being that I would like to build this with my partner. Rather than having them fit whatever role and story I come up with. I like discussing what we should do, and then being freeform on how we actually do it. For example, if we decide to have dinner together, we would agree to do a dinner scene. But then the actual execution of the scene would still be up to how we write, and interact.

Not having a set plot, does not mean I am lacking ideas however, some will be listed below. Quick examples would be. I have plans for John to eventually get powers, and become Spider Man. That is only one of my ideas, and isn't as long term as the others I have.

The way that I like to do my role plays, is I have an introduction scene, that gives reason for our characters to know each other, and start spending time together. In this case, it'll be Spider Woman interacting with John, and then a school project. Once our characters have established a basis with each other. That is where my so-called plot ends, and I like to go into what I call Free Role Play. Essentially we agree on what to do, maybe a few things during it, but how we do it is still up to role play.

I have a channel, titled ideas. This is where I like to, and have posted different scene ideas we can do throughout the story. Some of them you will read about below. You are more than welcome to contribute to this channel, and I would love it if you did. I do not like to create a specific plot, as much as I like to create a story starter, create ideas that we could do, and then explore how to do them.

With reasoning, of course. It would not make much sense for us to do a Christmas idea, if our characters are at the beginning of the school year.

To begin with, I do not want this Role Play to be exclusive to Gwen as Spider Woman. Gwen and my character John will be attending the same Midtown High School together, of course they will both be adults. So at times you'll be playing Gwen, and at times you'll be playing Spider Woman. The full experience.

The way that I would like to do this story, follows.. mostly Canon just without the multiverse. Peter would die at Gwen's Senior Prom as normal, and that would be the reason she misses a lot of school as normal, and ultimately fails her senior year. Just rather than finding Miles and dealing with the multiverse, she would cope by spending her time as Spider Woman, and punching bad guys a little harder than she used to. Obviously it would be pretty difficult for her to attend her classes, with her best friend no longer there. I imagine it would all still be just a bit too fresh.

The role play would take place next school year, after summer break. Gwen would be repeating her senior year, and John, who was a grade below her. Would now be in the same grade.

Role Play Info -

I would like a Romance between the two as Humans, just as much as between a Human and Superhero. It would especially be fun for John to be torn between falling for Spider Woman, and Gwen. While Gwen slowly grows desperate to tell him her secret.

The Primary Themes of this Role Play are Romance, Drama, and Slice of Life. With sides of Action. I would like to lean into those, especially with the High School side of our lives. Group Projects, Study Sessions, Homework Help, Detention, Library Session, Field Trips, and more. These are just a few things we can do, there are other things. Such as Dates, John's bully, Gwen getting hurt after a fight, John being taken hostage, fights between the two, and much more.

I would like this to be a Scene by Scene Story, instead of Continuous Story. That way our Characters can live their lives, it's easier to cover time, and they aren't just immediately pulled into sleeplessly spending every moment with each other. I like Stories to develop over Role Play time. Essentially, this just means that we incorporate Time Skips between Events, or Scenes. I will explain further if necessary.

I DO NOT just want to jump into romance, I would like a burn. I do not want a true styled Slow Burn that takes near a year before our characters are together. But I do want a Burn. I want John to become the next friend for Gwen, then best friend, then so close she can't see her life without him, and then lovers. I want to go through the stages, and explore the tension between them.

I only want Leading Capable Switch / Dominant Females. I do not like Role Playing with Submissive Exclusive Women who enjoy Mindlessly Serving, and cannot add on to the Story or Smut.

I am NOT looking for Utterly Submissive Women, who are incapable of anything but reacting to my responses.

Not only is this my preference, but Gwen is a switch by nature, and she's not exactly immediately submissive.

Ask for clarification if needed.

Please be capable of Controlling NPCs for a short time. While we will be playing our main characters more than anything, should we decide to deal with other's. Such as a Villain, or John's Bully, Parents, perhaps some Teachers? I don't want to be the only one playing the NPC’s. We will share that responsibility

Plot Info -

Finally, The Plot.

Now as I stated above, I do not have a specific plot in mind for this story. Though I have had some ideas that I would love to build into, at least for an introduction scene. Please keep in mind that this is a very brief description, as I do not like deciding things without my partner. However, this is what I have.

John would be sitting up top one of the tallest buildings in New York, carelessly letting his feet dangle off the side. One slip, and he could quickly fall into his death. Yet he was sitting calm, and had no fear of falling.

Unknown to him, this is also one of the favorite spots of Spider Woman, who likes to come here when in deep thought, just as he is.

Of course the two would run into each other, and perhaps they even scare each other. In which John falls, and has to be saved.

Yet, even after being saved, he remains.. mostly calm, and collected. Rather than immediately asking for an autograph, a photo, and ruining one of her favorite spots. He simply goes right back to the dangerous edge, and sits back down. Only after thanking her for saving him.

John and Spider Woman would end up talking, perhaps even sharing the struggles that brought them to this quiet, peaceful spot. Gwen would have a moment where she's treated as a normal person, even though she's behind the mask. She's Spider Woman, which she is reminded of when a speeding car passes by below, chased by police sirens.

Spider Woman rushes off to save the city once again, and when she returns late at night. John is gone.

The next day, Monday morning. Gwen and John both head to School, the first day of school. Where they will meet yet again. Though John has no idea he met Gwen up on the rooftop. Gwen wants to speak with him, but doesn't know how to initiate, he has no idea he spoke with her last night, and she can't just tell him she's Spider Woman.

I imagine Gwen and John would know of each other, but perhaps not be friends just yet? Gwen Stacy is obviously a promising name within Midtown, perhaps a little less now that she has to repeat a year. Maybe they saw each other in the Halls, though because they were in a different grade. They never had much reason to talk.

However, they're in the same grade now, and have mostly the same class schedule. Because they are both late to their first class, the teacher sits them together, and partners them for the first project.

There is simply so much we could do with this, and I would love to find a Gwen who sees the potential as I do, and builds it with me.

Below is a list of some of the ideas that I have, but it's not all of the ideas. Those are listed in the server that I have built. But there's a few of them, enough to give you an idea of what this role play may be like. I also have a lot more built in the server that I would love to share with my partner. As I said, I've put a lot of work into this. I'm only looking for someone who would reciprocate that, appreciate it, and love this as much as I do.

A Few Role Play Scene Ideas -

Holidays.

Whether it be Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, or anything else. Such as birthdays, or even just days off from school. Gwen and John need to have Holidays with each other.

This is not a very specific idea, and it can be done multiple times. But imagining them having Thanksgiving together, eating as a family like Gwen and Peter used to do. Perhaps having Christmas together, getting each other Special Gifts. Or just Halloween, when they dress up and go out. There are a lot of things we can do with this, especially involving the city. There would likely be Christmas decorations, maybe a Thanksgiving festival and a Halloween Parade. There's simply a lot we can do with this genre of ideas, so I want to keep it in mind.

Detention.

Whether it be because of a fight between the two of them, or a simple misunderstanding. Maybe an accident like somehow knocking over every single bookshelf in the library because Gwen is really strong, or John doesn't know his own strength when he gets his powers.. John and Gwen serve detention together.

This idea can be done two or three different times, but it probably shouldn't be done too much.

Study Sessions and Homework Help.

Even though John will literally deny it in front of anyone, even himself. Gwen is smarter than him, and because of this they sometimes have study sessions together. Where she helps him catch up.

Another thing that we can do several times, and as the story progresses, the two of them get closer. This can pretty easily become an excuse for the two of them to see each other.

Kidnapped.

After successfully spying on Spider Women for some time, Green Goblin comes to find she's friends with a civilian named John. Immediately he's driven to take him from her, like she took Peter from him. Although John puts up a fight, as a Human. He was no match for the Green Goblin, and John was taken straight from his apartment. Leaving his apartment almost completely destroyed, and burning. The Goblin either leaves something behind, or somehow contacts Spider Woman. Telling her that her friend has been kidnapped, and will be killed unless she meets him at a certain place. If John already knows Spider Woman is Gwen before this takes place, perhaps he could try to call her while he's fighting.

When she arrives at the location, she must fight the Goblin, defeat him, and save John before he's killed. Unexpectedly, John is able to help save himself and may even help bring the Goblin down.

Then the two obviously have an emotional moment, either one of them could have been killed, and this attack was personal.

Fairytales 0%

So... a long time ago I made on my old DA account a post titled “fairytales 0%” and while I do not like this title I will still use it to report my thoughts here. Because the idea behind this post was to find, among the numerous movies and cartoons that were just adaptations of fairytales, some that felt like a fairytale, were fairytales, and yet were not adaptations of any existing story or based on any existing story. Brand new fairytales, and yet with “0%” old fairytale in it. I know the title is unclear and quite a stretch, and I am not pleased with it, but I’ll stick to it for now... And so here is the list of four works I listed that for me are those “brand new visual fairytales”, those “fairytales 0%”. There are much more - but those were the four ones I could think of at the time.

1) Over the Garden Wall

An animated mini-series that aired in November 2014. The story of two half-brothers, the young, childish and naive Gregory alongside the older, more reasonable and sensible Wirt, as they try to find their way home ; for they are lost in a strange and magical forest known as “The Unknown”.

This piece of work is already cult. If you did not heard of it before, you must have heard of its creator - Patrick McHale, the man who was behind Adventure Time.

The first (and the second) time I watched Over the Garden Wall in its entirety, and this is true,, I felt the exact same feeling, the exact same sensation, as I felt upon hearing or seeing fairytales when I was younger. The EXACT same feeling - I literaly said upon watching the last episodes “I feel like I am discovering a new fairytale”. This mini-series is a masterpiece, a beautiful modern fairytale.

It takes back a lot of the codes and tropes of the fairytale genre: two siblings lost in the woods, who meet strange people, talking animals and witches ; undergoing a personal journey while being stalked by a monstrous entity ; and through their adventures learning not to trust appearances... But it truly seeks to build its own, unique story and identity. It notably does that by drawing upon all sorts of “old-timey” references and homages to the American “childhood culture” - from the early cartoons of the 20th century to the Wizard-of-Oz-like literature... And the cast! From Elijah Wood passing by John Cleese, without forgetting Tim Curry, so many famous voices!

Over the Garden Wall is one of those things you need to see once in your life.

2) Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

A Czech movie released in 1970, whose surrealist tone keeps oscillating between the fantasy and the horror - at least, that’s how it is officially described.

Valerie and Her Week of Wonders was a succesful and beautiful attempt at creating a modern fairytale. A young teenage girl, Valerie, lives a seemingly normal life in a remote Czech village. One day she pricks her finger, drawing a few drops of blood on flowers below, and her pearl earrings are stolen. From there starts a strange series of events that turn the story into a dream-like phantasmagoria...

Just like with Over the Garden Wall, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders reuse many codes, tropes and archetypes of fairytales while building its own unique story where the marvelous and the realist entwine. A wicked family member turning against the heroine... there is a male monster lurking around a sweet and innocent young girl, not an ogre or a wolf but here a vampire... Said young girl has to grow up through a series of strange events symbolizing other forms of maturity... A long lost brother put under a spell that needs to be rescued...

However there is one major difference with Over the Garden Wall: OTGW puts a distance with its own weirdness, playing consciously on the strangeness of the fairytale world. VAHWOW rather embraces the fantastical and oniric tones of the story, recreating in a straigth way all the marvels and grotesques of fairytales - which as a result makes one feel like this movie is a literal adaptation of an already existing fairytale... when it is not. 

A really beautiful and soothing movie.

3) Pan’s Labyrinth

A Spanish fantasy movie by Guillermo del Toro, released in 2006. 

Pan’s Labyrnth is always at the top of the lists of “modern fairytale movies”, and for good measure. You might know Guillermo del Toro as the amazing mind behind works such as the first two Hellboy movies, The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, The Devil’s Backbone, Mimic or Cronos.

Pan’s Labyrinth tells the story of young Ofelia, a little girl living in 1944 Spain and whose pregnant mother just married Captain Vidal, a member of Franco’s fascist regime. Ofelia tries to adapt to her new life and father, but in the process discovers in the ruins of a labyrinth an old faun - who tells her that she is the long-lost princess of a fairy kingdom! To regain her throne and find back her real parents, she needs to undergo three trials... 

The movie is split in two: on one side, the real world, dealing with the horrors of war. A story of fascists and resistants, as well as the story of Ofelia’s new life and of the pregnancy of her mother - a historical piece. On the other side, the fairy world, with its magic, wonders and terrors. The two were designed to reflect each other in the typical theme of “the fairytale tale (or the imaginary world) is a reflection of reality”. In fact, Guillermo del Toro gave this trope a renewed popularity specifically thanks to this marvelous movie.

However, be prepared: this is not a children movie. It is an adult movie, it is a war movie, it is filled with violence and sadness - and it mostly seeks to adapt the darkest and most disturbing aspects of the fairytale world, relying on the “original” conception of fairies and nature spirits as dangerous creatures of the night. It stays however a very touching and powerful movie, with beautiful visuals. You’ll find in there a set of three trials, nods to The Devil’s Three Golden Hair, an amazing reinterpretation of the Ogre, beautiful shots of woods, and a strong system of symbolism perfect for this adult, mature, serious fairytale.

Beware: fragile souls should probably avoid it.

4) Spirited Away

Let’s get out of the darkness for a more child-like movie.

All the classic movies of Studio Ghibli can be considered fairytales of some sort, since they all share this particularity “fairytale” quality to them - which does make sense given most of them are actually adaptations of fantasy books. But the most obviously “fairytale-y” of them all is not a book adaptation: it is the movie “Spirited Away”.

A young girl moves to a new town with her family. Her parents lead her to what they believe to be some sort of abandoned amusement park, but as it turns out it is a bathhouse for the yokai (Japanese folkloric creatures). The food there turns the girl’s parents into pigs, and she needs to hide herself from the various spirits inhabiting the place. With the help of a mysterious young boy, she will be hired by the wicked witch ruling over this strange place - starts a quest for her to save herself and her parents, while solving the mystery of the strange young boy’s identity... 

Created by the famous Hayao Miyazaki and released in 2001, Spirited Away is another one of those “modern fairytales” movie, and the interesting thing here is that it is based on actual Japanese folklore and Japanese fairytales - the monsters and supernatural entites seen throughout this movie being lifted out of Japanese legends. It still keeps however several nods to Western fantasy works, most notably Alice in Wonderland. And above all, we find here the universal fairytale tropes and ideas: the topic of food and eating, a young girl lost in a strange world where magic is behind every corner, a wicked witch, small friendly helpers, a story about making deals and overcoming trials to save a loved one ; a story filled with transformations, cruses and secret identities... 

And there is no need to say how beautiful this movie is - as with all the great Ghibli Studio movies.

ive been intrigued by modern au of certain twdg characters, like we know some of their back stories (lee being a prof or javi a baseball player) but like actually picturing/designing them is interesting, idk if you've ever thought of it past clem, louis and violet [unfortunately im unskilled so just sharing my ideas!]

i dont think about modern aus all that often since ive always been more of a fan of in-universe explorations. the only time i Really think about modern au stuff is when im playing them in the sims lmao (i keep my traumatized faves safe there)

i dont think their designs would be all that different? the only reason i see clem vs modern clem as variations of the same person is because we knew what she was like as a kid and we saw how beat down by the world she became after 8 years on the road. but without the trauma of that i feel she would be able to retain a lot of that optimism and kindness she had as a child that she became hardened to as she got older (that kindness is still there deep down but shes become hardened by the things shes been through and shes had to become tough to survive). and even with her parents still dying, getting to have lee permanently as a supportive guardian lets her still retain that general attitude for the most part, she just becomes more of a realist. but she never gets as low emotionally as she was in like S3. she also has less responsibility since she doesnt have to care for aj alone either. she actually gets to be a sister. shes much more lighthearted overall while still taking things seriously

but for characters like lee or javi (or any of the adults), we've seen them outside of the apocalypse. and their outlooks didnt change all that dramatically because of it. at least not in ways that would influence their personal styles. just take the layer of zombie grime off them give them a bath and clean clothes theyre good to go

when i think of modern aus i imagine most of the adults to be the same, just more relaxed as they dont have to deal with fighting to survive day after day. its really the younger characters that i feel would have the possibility of being different. in-universe their lives were shaped by the apocalypse. but without the apocalypse who would they be? and how do you still keep those characters feeling like Themselves when you remove such a big part of why they are the way they are?

especially when it comes to the ericson kids who, when i imagine modern aus, were not sent off to boarding school by their families either. thats another huge change to something so so foundational to their characters. how were those situations handled? did those events even happen? in louis' case i personally keep his relationship with his father tense and strict, but i make his mother more supportive of him and his goals, and so while he still has to fight for what he wants there was never a time where he felt he needed to teach his dad a lesson, because at least he has his mom. in violets case things dont change all that much, her dad still sucks her mom still works 3 jobs and her grandma still offs herself in front of her, only difference is they have no financial ability to send violet off, and so she just has to Deal with it. but even these changes dont have all that much effect on their personal styles compared to their canon selves. louis just gets to keep wearing his expensive designer shit, and violet has had the same wardrobe for 5+ years and it shows in its wear and tear

when i think about how characters would dress its heavily reliant on their personalities, outlooks, and circumstances. how do i show these things based on looks alone? but thats why i dont imagine most of them looking all that different. theyve just been reverted. lee is still a fun but reasonable (for the most part) history professor who wants to start a family, and javi is still a happy go lucky uncle dealing with being kicked out of his dream career while trying to be more present for his family. their styles remain largely unchanged

Thought of a fun thought experiment that will either age brilliantly or horribly quite soon.

So, we all know that Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is coming soon, right? Like REALLY soon. Less than 2 months kind of soon.

We still don't really know much about what this remake will change or add except for:

1 new copy ability

new multiplayer mini-games

looming Magolor Castle (that is left unexplained for now) in promotional artwork

I don't mention the visuals because it's the most obvious and expected change coming from the remake of 2011 Wii game.

So I want to do something fun. I'll list my predictions on what this remake will change and/or add. I will be splitting them into predictions that are likely and predictions that are more on pipe dreams territory. I'll present arguments and/or evidence towards each point as we go. Let's begin!

Things that I think are likely to happen:

Playable Magolor. I mean, come on now. Not only he's now included on the cover, which he wasn't in the original game, he's also one of the most popular characters in the franchise now. Like he's actually probably the most popular addition to the series since Meta Knight and Meta Knight was introduced in 1993. I'm not entirely sure yet how this would work (it partially goes into pipe-dream predictions territory), but I'm certain it will somehow happen. It helps that modern Kirby games on Switch had a tendency to have a late-game unlockable that is super OP and is related to game's storyline in some way. Star Allies had playable Mage Sisters, Forgotten Land had Masked Hammer and Morpho Sword as milestones for beating main story mode and post-game campaign. Magolor only makes the most sense to follow suit.

Dedede, Meta Knight and Bandana Dee will receive their updated movesets from Star Allies. While I wasn't overall a huge fan of how Star Allies treated those three characters, being way less polished than later DLC Dream Friends, one things they got right is by finally giving them more original moves into their arsenal. They basically started out as hammer clone, wing and sword clone hybrid and spear clone respectively, which, I assume, was byproduct of RTDL's co-op being a late addition in the development. Giving each of them more unique moves in SA was a great move and them to carry over into RTDL DX would be excellent choice as well. Not only they would stand out more against contemporary copy abilities they were based on, it presents more fun gameplay possibilities (I'm sleeping and dreaming how much I will spam super dedede jump in various boss fights like grand doomer). But the best of all, we have an evidence of this potentially happening, ladies and gentlemen! In trailer footage we got we can decipher Meta Knight doing Galactic Counter that was introduced in Star Allies.

If this is anything to go by, all new additions are set in stone and it's just matter of seeing more of it in the final game.

The boldest prediction yet, mainly because it's not based on anything except for my gut feeling. But Magolor Castle will be the hub-world for the post-game in RTDL DX. It makes the most logical sense as it would be a good way to differentiate post-game from the main story where the hub world was Lor Starcutter. What we will do there? Who knows, there's tons of possibilities. It will most likely house mini-games but I doubt they would design such elaborate looking location just to be a place where you could pick a mini-game. There would certainly be more stuff to do, but what would it be?.. Time will tell!

Things that I want to happen but aren't necessarily likely:

King Dedede, Meta Knight and Bandana Dee becoming playable in single-player (outside of arenas). There are many ways how it could work, but the idea I'm betting on (and therefore hoping for) the most is introducing Guest Star-like mode where each of them get an abridged and changed take on the main campaign's levels, taking advantage of their individual movesets in the process. I feel like them being locked behind co-op in the original game was some of the biggest shortcomings of RTDL so I genuinely hope remake will fix that.

Entirely new post-game story. Extra mode that original RTDL had is less than stellar, to say the least. It's basically the same game again with slightly updated bosses and halfed health bar. Lame. If this remake were to go down the route of recent Switch Kirby titles, introducing an extra-mode that actually continues the story of the main game is the way to go! It can go down many ways, but personally I think the most fun (And funniest) plotline for such extra mode would be helping out to build Magolor's theme park (aka Magolor Castle we've been seeing on the cover art), mirroring the story of the main mode, but with lower stakes and reestablishing Magolor's current status-quo on-screen instead of it being left to Miiverse information.

Old Extra mode being remade into a difficulty option. I think both this game and Forgotten Land were developed co-currently so they are bound to share some of the game design philosophies. Getting rid of the old extra mode entirely would probably be too harsh and unfaithful to the original game... But if you were to repurpose it instead, it's a different story entirely. It will become this game's "Wild Mode", I wager.

These are all the main ideas I currently have for what this remake will have in store. I hope I got at least one of those things right. See y'all in 2 or so weeks when they will actually drop a new trailer.
