This post will be very personal. I'm not that familiar with Tumblr so idk if anyone will see this, but just in case they do: I'll read every comment, so please be kind. This fandom is probably the least toxic fandom I've ever been a part of, but I'm afraid this post may contain some Mirabelle slander. I like her as a character, but she's far from my favorite, for reasons I'll explain below.

I'll be honest: Mirabelle always seemed a bit... annoying to me. Not in a "I hate this character, get off my screen" way, but rather in a "can she stop being anxious for 1 blinding second?" way, which is self projection from me, because I am also very anxious when interacting with other people. I relate to that part of her character, and I felt bad seeing how many times the others have to reassure her, so I projected my annoyance with myself onto Siffrin and the others. I like her as a character, but she reminds me of the part of myself that I'm ashamed of, which is why I don't love her.

When she reacted the way she did in act 5, I was honestly mad at her. How dare she say that to Siffrin, who's clearly not okay? How dare she slap them and declare that they we're never friends? How dare she keep the right to be mad later in act 6, knowing that Siffrin did it all because he was looping in time?! I don't think I'm fully over it.

But I think it's also self projection. I'm mad at myself for not being over some things. For not being able to forgive more easily. I'm just better at hiding how much some things hurt me. I hide my anxiety as much as I can, and agonize about it when I'm alone. I'm mad she's not as bad at communicating her own feelings as I am, which is very funny considering ISAT's main message is that communicating your feelings is imperative.

And then I come across a post like this - a post which praises her as a character exactly for the only interaction with her that genuinely made me mad at her for a while. And I read it. And I agree. And I realize just how much of this I could apply to my own life. I have the right to be mad about things that hurt me, no matter why they happened. It doesn't matter why the people who hurt me did it, I still deserve to be mad at them over it. Does that mean I have to retroactively decide we were never really close? No, but it's reasonable for me to decide that their actions change our relationship, even if they didn't intend to do it.

I think it's very neat how fandom discourse can redefine how I see a character, and in turn how I see myself. I was still mad at her when I finished the game. I'm mostly over it now, even though I still don't love when she's the main focus of fanfiction I read, (excluding some fics), because it's difficult for me to not find her annoying again.

Writing this post felt very cathartic.

This blog is pretty much just a journal where I make notes to myself, so I'm posting this even though I don't think it's perfect. Maybe I'll decide to edit it in the future? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i was gonna talk about all of them in one post but i kept having more to say about Mirabelle. and i don’t talk about Mirabelle in depth as much as she deserves. so!

Party POV of Loop Hangout Day - MIRABELLE EDITION

we don’t see the clocktower interaction play out after Siffrin agrees to hang out with Loop, but there’s no reason to believe it goes much differently than usual without the friendquests changing things. which means this probably happens

We’ll stay with you, Mira. Siffrin says it every time this conversation happens.

Mirabelle offers them all a final opportunity to back out. she’s felt guilty, this entire time, dragging everyone along with her on a quest that feels doomed to fail, and that more than half of the party shouldn’t even really be involved with—a child, and two travelers risking their lives for a country that isn’t theirs, just because they had the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

they should be allowed to leave. she may not have a choice, but the rest of them do. so she tries to offer them this escape, even though the thought of what’s ahead fills her with dread, even if she’s terrified she was the wrong choice for something this important and may not be able to protect them, or even succeed at all. and it’s such a relief and a comfort that they all choose to stay anyway, and she doesn’t have to face the House alone. she has support, company, friends to rely on. people who believe in her even when she doesn’t believe in herself.

except when they wake up the next morning, Siffrin is nowhere to be found. not in the clocktower, not in the town. how long do they search? how long does it take them to decide this must be his real answer to the question Mirabelle posed the night before?

Mirabelle takes Siffrin’s act 5 behavior…very personally. in her hurt and anger, she decides that if nothing’s wrong, if he thought it was okay to say something like that in that moment, they must have always been a worse person than she thought they were. she was always uncertain of his motives, his attitude. she reassures herself that their teasing is friendly, like it’s something she has to convince herself is true.

but some part of her really did believe that he saw himself as better than the rest of them—even if she never treated them with anything other than kindness! she didn’t let her uncertainty or anxiety get in the way of treating him with warmth, ignoring the potential bad-faith explanations of his behavior and trusting that they had better intentions than her fears would lead her to believe…until she had evidence that, just maybe, those fears weren’t so unfounded.

the Housemaiden in the Prologue even says that she thought they were mean, at first. uncaring. an impression that didn’t turn around until Siffrin got hurt protecting Bonnie. maybe it’s cheating a little bit to bring Prologue dialogue into an ISAT discussion since they’re not perfectly identical timelines, but i think it lines up with ISAT Mirabelle thinking Siffrin saw themself as “better” than her.

Prologue:

ISAT:

she applies this judgement not just in the moment, but retroactively. whatever goodwill and trust she had read into their behavior before, it’s gone. the person she reassured herself that he was would never do something like this, so she must have failed to understand him entirely, from the very beginning.

there’s no confrontation, in the Hangout loop. just a silent disappearance. they have no context or explanation for what happens. no heightened emotions from the immediacy of insults and anger thrown in their faces. but whatever emotions bubble up have time to simmer.

i can imagine Mirabelle’s thought process might be quite similar to how it is in Act 5.

something must be wrong, for them to act like this. to disappear without a word after promising everyone that they’d stay.

but if nothing’s wrong…she must have been wrong about them. he isn’t the person she thought he was. how could they leave now, after what they already sacrificed defending Bonnie? or was it because of what he lost defending them—that he had given all he was willing to give, and no more?

did they finally decide Mirabelle wasn’t a person worth believing in anymore? that her mission wasn’t important enough to waste his life in its pursuit? that someone like them shouldn’t bother following someone as weak as her?

she gave them the option to leave. she feels guilty that it hurts so much that he took it. angry and betrayed that he would lie to their faces and leave without a goodbye, when for all they know they’ll never see each other again. did they all really matter so little to him?

or was he scared, and unable to face them out of shame? can she really blame them for that, knowing her own terror at what entering the House will bring? maybe he’s just as scared as she is, even if he never shows it like she does. it’s their choice. he has no responsibility here, no obligation to stay and put himself in danger for their sakes. she offered them this. she offered them this. they’re allowed to change their mind. what right does she have to be angry? she would have understood if they’d just!! said something!!! it would have hurt, still, but, but—

did she ever really understand them at all, if she couldn’t see this coming?

2024 DNF List

Okay, I want to preface this by explaining that not all of these books are bad. I don't remember half of them. And some of them were just of the "not for me" variety. Or even "not right now." Some of them also got shelved because my Libby check out expired and I just never checked it back out. This was before Storygraph implemented the "pause" feature (love that feature). So some are not bad books. Some I just straight up cannot remember at all.

Also, these are my opinions. So don't @ me if you loved any of these books. Everyone has different tastes and there are some things I just can't overlook. I blame a lot of my DNFs on bad writing, but I do read badly written books. They just have to have more to the story and not take themselves too seriously.

I was really looking forward to a Nutcracker retelling. MCs were too dumb for me to continue. One's a ridiculous flirt. Like in the cringey way. A Victorian noble woman wouldn't be going around calling men "hunks" or whatever stupid shit she was saying. Could not look past her wanting to fuck every man she sees like this isn't the fucking Victorian era. And she said this stuff BOLDLY and OUT LOUD. Often IN FRONT of said hunks. Would not have been socially acceptable and it took me out of the story. But I don't think I was missing much anyway.

5. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

The first sex scene happens when they're like 15. You could have just written that they did some things without going into graphic detail. A grown ass woman should not be writing about two 15yo boys discovering sex for the first time. What the fuck?

6. The Night Queen by Denise Daye

8. Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross

LET ME TELL YOU WHY I DNF'D THIS BOOK OKAY?! Very obviously self-insert MC who is OBSESSED with her Reylo ship. To the point of the MMC noticing her "Reylo forever" t-shirt and how it's hugging her giant breasts. His wolf has his own voice and wants to fuck her immediately. Even though she's the most annoying person he's likely ever met. I DNF'd when she stopped the story to explain to him why Reylo was "the best ship ever." Stop putting your stupid ships into your work! No one cares that you ruined Star Wars! YIKES!

9. The September House by Carissa Orlando

She was way too nonchalant about her husband mysteriously disappearing and her walls bleeding. Also just like not telling her daughter that her dad is missing and then not understanding why she's upset. Honestly, the boomer mentality was probably the most realistic part.

10. The Stone Circle Queen by Ophelia Wells Langley

I did read the first one. And I remember liking it for the most part. But I did get hung up on the part where the author misgenders her own non-binary character. And that kind of pissed me off. I can't remember why I DNF'd this one beyond the fact that I was confused and couldn't remember what happened.

11. Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

Listen. I got suckered in by the cool sprayed edges too. But I love myself too much to keep going.

12. Shardless by Stephanie Fisher

13. Never Whistle at Night by Multiple

THIS WAS NOT A BAD BOOK. Just not for me, I'm sorry. I really struggle with horror because there are some themes that upset me. And this one just made me a little uncomfy and I couldn't hang. But it's a horror anthology so that's the point. I'm just a big baby.

14. The Sun, the Storm, & the Shadows by Mikayla D. Hornedo

I was excited about this one because it's a fae story but based on Maya mythology. But it was badly written and I couldn't hang.

15. Between Wrath and Mercy by Jess Wisecup

I don't remember a lot but I'm pretty sure there's a rape scene early on. I didn't finish it because as soon as the vibes headed in that direction, I noped out. I did check Storygraph to see if I was picking up what they were putting down and it said yes. So no thank you.

16. Hallows End by Kristen Proby

LET ME COUNT THE WAYS. Okay, this book was badly written to the point of making me rage quit. I don't remember much of the plot but I remember there's a scene where she shows up at MMC's house in the middle of the night in her pajamas with no shoes for some reason? And is like "I was just chased by a monster!" They then proceed to passionately make out and the monster chase scene is never explained, elaborated on, or brought back up. Idk maybe it becomes relevant later but it felt just so out of place and a weird way to get your characters to make out. I also remember that instead of writing the monster chase scene the MMC proceeds to explain the entire history of the Salem Witch Trials to you like it's a new thing you've never heard of. All while she's apparently being chased by a monster in her jammies. Which is not as important as teaching you something you probably already know, or can just read on Wikipedia. The chase scene happens off page. But not the redundant history lesson. Idk. They fell in love in like 5 minutes. I couldn't.

18. The Umbra King by Jamie Applegate Hunter

I'm pretty sure this was just one of my Libby returns that I forgot about because I didn't read enough of it.

I KNOW this one was a Libby return that I didn't read fast enough. I didn't listen to a lot of it but it was interesting so it went back on my tbr.

22. It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

I only picked it up because of the same initials thing. I read her Christmas one the year before and didn't hate it so I thought I could handle this one. I hated the characters too much to get into it. I can relate to an ex-con who wants to build elaborate window displays but not a spoiled rich girl crying about inheriting a bar. Idk.

23. The Crimson Moth/Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli

I know people like this one but I couldn't get passed the magic system. I do remember thinking the writing wasn't very good but I can sometimes overlook that. I could not, however, overlook collecting your friend's PERIOD blood to rub sigils on your skin for magic. GROSS. I also remember an absolutely ridiculous scene where she's trying to get LI to drink from a glass she put a truth spell on, with period blood, and drinks it herself to prove it's not cursed. Then acts like an idiot. The secondhand embarrassment was overwhelming. Also, she's supposed to be this like super intelligent vigilante but does stupid shit like that.

24. The Witch Handbook to Magic and Mayhem by Tish Thawer

I don't remember why I stopped but the premise was interesting. I do remember being confused about trying to keep track of all the characters and their different powers. But I can't tell you what pushed me over the edge.

25. After the Forest by Kell Woods

I don't think this one was bad. I was just bored.

26. The Gathering Dark by Tori Bovalino

I think horror anthologies are just not for me. I remember enjoying a few of the shorts but I just never picked it back up again. I think the short format just bores me.

27. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

I see this one recommended a lot but the writing is bad. And I remember thinking she over explained a lot of unnecessary information. Like there's a whole scene where the MC is licking berry juice or honey or something off her fingers. And she takes the time to inform you that there are also ants on her fingers. Which she eats. So yeah. That was weird.

28. Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Listen, I love the Lunar Chronicles. I could NOT make myself enjoy reading about the Queen. There's a word for what you're doing, babes! It's called Sexual Assault. Like I know we knew that already. But I couldn't make myself read it. She was awful from birth and I think Meyer did a good job of showing her THINKING that she's doing the right thing while being horrible. Well written. Very triggering. Could not put myself through it.

29. How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

I honestly just couldn't get into it. Brother pissed me off. I was bored.

30. Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer

This is no fault of the story or author. But the copy I got was covered in crumbs and Cheeto stains. I can't hang with the nasties. I will try again when we replace it. Gross.

31. Phantom Phenomena by Darkness Prevails

This book is about the point that I realized I don't like short, personal ghost stories. They bore me and 99% of them aren't even scary.

32. Haint Country by Matthew R. Sparks

This was my biggest disappointment this year. This book has itself labeled as Appalachian folklore but it's, again, just people's not scary ghost stories that happen to take place in Kentucky. There's no actual folklore. I gave up after one story was just "We waited for the bus on our aunt's porch every day and she'd leave the light on for us. The light stayed on after she died! Spooky" it wasn't. If you like those kinds of books, it's probably fine. But I don't think that I do. And I was hoping for more actual folklore.

Current headcanons of this version:

- Dick Grayson | Robin (14): mostly the same but I'd say he kinda forced Bruce to accept him. Bruce kept saying he would deal with Zucco with his billionaire influence but Dick would not accept it, telling Bruce he can and would escape the mansion to take revenge. When Bruce noticed Dick would end up in the same path as him, he decided it would be best to guide him through it and that having an adult around to help him do it right is better than letting him do it alone with no training and Dick would 100% do it alone if necessary.

- Wally West | Kid Flash (14): I'll be honest, I don't think I have any relevant or little difference in my head for Wally. Mostly because I haven't read him outside of Titans comics and I think he's cool there. He starts off a little annoying but then he drops off and as Flash he is just a great friend to Dick and everyone so idk?? Not enough knowledge about him.

- Garth | Aqualad (13): My immediate headcanon for Garth is him already being able to use hydrokinesis. I feel like he'd be the youngest and least experienced of them along with Donna as both of them came from other places and are still learning about other cultures and all that. He has particular beef with Roy who mocks his whole dependency of water thing but he comes to learn that Roy is just trying to feel better about his insecurity as Garth is not only capable of doing magic but also being raised underwater means he is actually very very strong while Roy feels shooting arrows makes him the weakest member of the group so messing with the youngest kid, the fish out of water makes him feel more powerful. I'd say Garth and Donna would be easy friends as they know about each other's culture far more. Garth is also the wisest and calmest of them, I'd say but when he does get angry it's a very scary thing as his magic powers are no joke.

- Donna Troy | Wonder Girl (14): Donna Troy is a mystery. She's not the only child in Themyscira as Amazons here are quite capable of having children with each other (hello, DC comics, you don't need to make them r*pists if your canonize trans Amazons. They can literally just have women centered pregnancies without magic or abusing men for it), but Donna was adopted by none other than Queen Hippolyta. As far as she knows, Wonder Woman saved her from a burning building but after never finding her parents and sensing something different about her, she decided to take her back home where they found out Donna is not only quite similar to Amazons, but quite similar to Diana specifically... But Donna is NOT an Amazon, nor a clone. Donna was created by the Titans of myth, from clay to life, just as Diana once was, she was named Troia by them as she was designed to work similarly as the Trojan Horse, infiltrating the Amazons and eventually growing into their champion to destroy the gods and free them from Tartaros. What they did not expect is that Donna would follow Diana's footsteps and go to men's world in her younger years where she would meet her best friends and learn not to be a warrior but a human girl. She is a great fighter, of course, the strongest of the team, she became fast friends with them and even thought at first they could even be demigods: Aqualad had power over water and came from Poseidon's Atlantis, Kid Flash ran like Hermes, Robin was a strategist as Athena and that Speedy boy? His bow and arrow and handsomeness could only be taken from Apollo, right? It took a while for Donna to learn about humanity and teenagers but she fell in love with that world, even developing her own sense of style and fashion, changing a lot from the Amazon warrior into a teenage girl. A superhero teenage girl. (Maybe I'll develop this more with her transformation into Troia later down the line)

- Roy Harper | Speedy (15): My biggest headcanon is that Roy's mother (who as far as I know we have no info about) was Navajo and died in childbirth. Roy's dad raised him until dying saving Brave Bow and Brave Bow took Roy and raised him knowing who his mother was. I'd just like to make him a little bit less of the white guy raised by natives trope that lots of golden age comics did for some reason. Well, Roy here was not much different, eventually being adopted by Ollie and training with him and Dinah. In the Team, Roy is the rival to Dick. He is flirty, a showoff and wants really bad to be a badass not only to impress Donna but to come on top of Robin as he feels GA and Batman are rivals and so should they as the only regular humans on the team and at points he even denies being part of the Titans, only being at the same place at the same time. After his insecurities and anxieties take him to a dangerous path and conflict with Ollie, he learns to warm to the Titans as friends and family after they take care of him and don't judge him, trying their best to help and understand him.

Okay, pulls out pitch notecards, idk who will want this, but I'm making it. It's based heavily on this post @kinardsboy wrote, but it's gonna be BuckTommy not Rocker/Buck. So, here's the gist:

25-year-old Tommy, barely just getting his life together, maybe a year after Gerrard was kicked out of the 118, and almost a year since Tommy has come out, stumbles across 19-year-old Buck terribly stealing a bag of chips from the grocery store. And usually, Tommy's policy when he sees people steal food is no, he didn't, but there's no way Buck's going to be able to hide that bag of chips, he does not have the right jacket for that, and even then, bad choice in food to steal.

This starts up a conversation that ends up with Tommy buying the chips for Buck, taking Buck to get dinner because Tommy's been in that position before (possibly kicked out of his home or left it young), and hears Buck's story - he fucked up at community college, ran away from his terrible parents who were just going to judge him, tried to get his older sister to run with him and leave her abusive husband, but instead ended up with a car. And he had decided to live as far away from his parents as he could think of - California.

This ends up with Tommy letting Buck couch surf at his place until Buck figures out what he wants to do with his life, gets back on his feet, or at least gets a job. Because Tommy has slept in his car before and that was never great. Having an address, even a temporary one, is also good for a job search.

Tommy lets Buck join him at the station maybe the next day or after a few days and Buck falls in love with it. The idea of helping, the comradery, the people. He finds the newest of a long string of captains at the station, Bobby, to be admirable. He wants to become a firefighter. All the while, Tommy is thinking about how he misses flying. He had signed up to be a pilot for the military, but one wrong relationship with a terrible guy who happened to have a lot of power cost Tommy and had him discharged early. Which honestly might have been for the best, but Tommy still felt drawn to the sky.

Buck and Tommy encourage each other to pursue their dreams. Tommy helps Buck get through the fire academy and Buck pushes Tommy to apply for a transfer to Harbor Station. Buck drags his feet on finding a new place once he starts his time as a probie at the 118. It becomes a little more complicated for Tommy to get through all the red tape of becoming a full firefighter pilot due to how he was discharged from the military. Still, Buck manages to be a probie with enough pay to at least move into his own place and Tommy gets that transfer he's been waiting for.

It's bittersweet, but they're happy for each other, even if they're not sort of living in each other's pockets any longer. And there's a loneliness in both of their newfound senses of independence, but there's something healthy about it; something good.

And maybe they're both sad that they're drifting apart. Tommy isn't sure if anyone at the 118 really would even want to keep in touch, let alone Evan. And Buck is reluctant to overstep.

But they meet each other a little over a year later, on Buck's twenty-first birthday since Eddie (who had joined as a probie alongside Buck and became fast friends with both of them) invited Tommy to come - that he knows Buck would want him there. Tommy had thrown Buck's twentieth, after all. Why wouldn't Buck want him at his twenty-first?

And Tommy isn't sure. He's not sure if he's actually wanted, but he takes a leap of faith. And Buck's in a good place - a fantastic place since Tommy met him about two years ago. And Tommy's more confident and in a better place too. And they decide, yes. They can pursue this. It felt like wrong timing before, but now, with them both in good places and happier people and the power dynamic equal, they can fall into the feelings they have had for one another maybe since they first met.

So.

so today i tricked my very straight male friend into reading svsss.

okay look, i wasn't planning to at first and it's not like it was completely my fault. he wanted to read it!

i was showing him how badly they fucked up mu qingfang in the donghua by comparing it to the english novel design (he said that mu qingfang went from looking like a soft dilf to a predator registered on the epstein island list). and then, i showed him how different some of the other character designs were like gongyi xiao's ("he looks like he'd be a genshin character" -friend, to eng novel design) and luo binghe's ("lowkey, he kinda gives airbender vibes" -friend, to bunhe eng novel design)

so that was all i was gonna show him, nothing else. but after seeing them, he goes, "these designs actually look hella cool. what's the book called?"

now, do i:

A. tell him the name, eventually revealing that it's a danmei when he looks it up?

B. just straight up tell him that it's a danmei?

C: don't tell him the name just yet, spill the summary, get him interested, and tell him to not search anything up about it because there's heavy spoilers and it will reveal them the moment he types it up on the search bar

i go with C, obviously.

me: so, basically, some guy named shen yuan transmigrates into an incel harem male power fantasy novel where the protagonist, luo binghe, has hundreds of wives. thing is though, the guy pretty much took over the body of binghe's teacher he had when he was a teenager, who turns out to be a really scummy dude. and now he has to be nice to him so that the protagonist doesn't rip off his limbs and put him into a pickle pot in the future to suffer for eternity.

friend: that sounds hilarious and horrifying at the same time.

me: yes it is, and you should read it. it's like. my favorite novel at the moment. but don't search up anything about it because people spoil that shit. i'll let you borrow my novel

friend: nah don't worry, i'll just pirate it

friend: wait. does it have pictures?

me, my plan coming together: yeah, it has pictures. buuut, when you pirate it, it doesn't. trust me dude, i tried and was severely disappointed. plus, the physical copy is so much better

friend: fuck yeah ok thanks

me: hold on though. i'll text you later to see if my friend who's borrowing it rn is done reading it

he's hyped. he's excited. he craves a good book and a good transmigration interpretation. he's especially happy about the fact that it takes place in a chinese setting with cool powers and an actual good main character. "this sounds so good, god i wanna read it so bad."

i tell him that binghe is actually adorable, too. that it's pretty much found family! my friend then asks if shen yuan adopts him and becomes a father figure or something.

and i said "yes". you know, like a liar. (the father figure part probably isn't a lie though)

That's a good point about the DADA position. In one of the books (4?) Hagrid says people are starting to say the position is cursed. They wouldn't be only starting to say that if it's been cursed since before the first war.

In Book 1, Hagrid describes Quirrell like this:

“Oh, yeah. Poor bloke. Brilliant mind. He was fine while he was studyin’ outta books but then he took a year off ter get some first-hand experience. . . . They say he met vampires in the Black Forest, and there was a nasty bit o’ trouble with a hag — never been the same since. Scared of the students, scared of his own subject — now, where’s me umbrella?”

This tells me that Quirrell did teach at at Hogwarts. Hagrid, who doesn't seem to really leave Hogwarts, knows him him well enough to say "he was fine." He took a year long sabbatical (met Voldemort) and came back all jumpy, okay.

Then in a 2007 Q &A, JKR says (unprompted) that "He was teaching at Hogwarts for more than a year, but NOT in the post of D.A.D.A. teacher. He was previously Muggle Studies professor."

And like... no. That's a retcon. "Scared of his own subject" means scared of the subject Hagrid knows he teaches, and was "studying out of books" before he went to get some practical experience with dark creatures. Like he was teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. That's why he took a defense-themed sabbatical, and didn't like. Idk. Hang out in some muggle museums for a year.

What makes this doubly funny is that Voldemort, who cursed the position in the first place, is living on the back of Quirrell's head.... while he is in the cursed position. Like, Voldemort, guy, you're already dealing with the unicorn curse, let's not willingly stack them like that, okay? If Quirrell really did teach Muggle Studies, just let him him keep teaching that. It's safer, and a better cover anyway.

(I suppose you could say he wasn't planning on staying longer than a year, like Barty, but still. Voldemort's health is kind of delicate in Book 1, you'd think he'd take all the advantage he could get.)

Like you can absolutely watch the idea of a cursed position take form over the course of the books. In Book 2 "People [are] startin’ ter think it’s jinxed. No one’s lasted long fer a while now." Which is pretty different from 'one year or less' deadline we eventually land on.

(If the position has been cursed since slightly before Voldemort's first rise to power, that's been at been at least 25 different DADA professors, all lasting a year. gee Snape, it's a little dark that you want that position so bad.)

In Book 3 there are "rumors that the job was jinxed," and in Book 5 Fred and George talk about "what’s happened to the last four [DADA professors]" when they should have seen six come and go. In Book 6, Harry very confidently says, “That job’s jinxed. No one’s lasted more than a year. " Which is confirmed later on by Dumbledore, who says "You see, we have never been able to keep a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for longer than a year since I refused the post to Lord Voldemort.”

What gets me about this is that - this is a dumb thing, right? It's a small thing. It's not even an important plot point. If JKR had said "Yes, I decided to develop that idea after the first book was already published. Maybe I'll go back and tweak earlier editions, like JRR Tolkien did with the Hobbit to make it match the Lord of the Rings better." Literally no one would have cared. That would have been fine.

But I don't know. She somehow wants to say that the entire thing was entirely planned out from the world go, and she has never even changed her mind. And the way her instinct is always to add a ton of extra stuff, to (hopefully) retcon away the original problems... it's almost like she's trying to convince herself that she's infallible, and has never been wrong ever.

Hi! You're no trouble at all! Thank you for asking, I'm humbled you're interested in hearing my opinion.

Ok, let's see. Before I start I wanna say, these are MY opinions based on also how I'm doing my own rewrite AU thingy, so don't take it personally if I don't want to include elements or characters you love. (Most fo the time it doesn't even mean I don't like those characters in canon, I just don't think they'd fit with the specific narrative I have in my mind)

I'll say for Season 1, my biggest issue is the amount of time it takes to get everyone in the cast. By the time we get Mina it's like what, over 3/4ths of the season in? I like that the show takes its time introducing everyone and giving the girls some organic bonding time in the filler, but there's better ways to do it imo. That's why I have Usagi be the last to awaken and meet an already tranformed Ami and Rei, so we don't totally break from Usagi being the center at first. We can use her as a vessel to get to know these new people and this crazy new identity at the same time she does, letting us know more about her too in the process, while not slowing the pace of the story to a crawl. As we get to know more, you can introduce the rest of the girls and break from the main group to catch glimpses of Mako and Mina, to later unite them. But that's my fix, there's other ways to fix the slow introductions, just.. don't maybe go manga style and spend only one ep per girl and immediately move on to the next, give them time to breathe.

My main issue with Season 2 is the time travel. The show does NOT know its own rules and that is a recipe for disaster, once you introduce an ally that is able to time travel, you got a LOT in your hands. Everything in the show could be solved with one travel through time, but they never do. Why? Cause otherwise the show wouldn’t exist. It leaves too many possibilities and questions that is not ready to answer. Idk how one could fix it, I'm sure there's many ways you could, I just have 0 interest in incorporating time travel in sm.

With Season 3 I'd say it's the introduction of the whole Pharaoh 90 or Mistress 9 thing. I don’t know, I know they are the main baddies, but like.. just make Saturn the main threat, she already basically is. That's my problem with it, I'm sure a ton of people disagree, but I'd rather the season just focus more on Saturn, Haruka, Michiru and Pluto, I don't need another "queen Nehellenia" type villain that gets introduced 2 seconds before the end. And I lovee Eudial and Mimete, but we don't need 5 of them. I'd just make those 2 Tomoe's assistants and that's that. Too many villains, especially if you're not going to do a motw format.

With Season 4.. uff where do I even begin. Tbh I scratch the whole season and do a ground up rebuilding project, but if I HAVE to stick with the canon structure I'll say make Nehellenia more present. She's THE BEST part of SuperS, make her more present and more threatening. Give her that mirror power from the get go, make her appear in mirrors, reflections, show her subtly , in the background, give the season a subtle but palpable atmosphere of unease, make her scary. I WANT TO BE SCARED of her! Also unrelated, but get RID of the S*A metaphor with the 3 eyes.

With Stars the whole pacing the season is a mess. The start is way too slow and the end is rushed as fuck. Introduce Galaxia as a present threat earlier, again idk how you'd do that exactly while keeping the episodic tempo of the show, but my solution is. Don't! Lol

Sometimes he can still feel the crushing weight of the ring pulling on his neck or weighing on his chest, and you catch him absentmindedly rubbing one of these spots

So you, you special person, find some excuse to give him a neck rub or a back rub

Personal HC that when his arm is burned after stabbing the Witch-King, he gets phantom pains not dissimilar to Frodo's

It's almost like nerve damage - he'll be fine one minute and drop whatever he was holding the next, or his hand will start twitching in weird and sometimes disturbing (to him) ways

This is Mr. "Nothing-Bothers-Me-And-I'm-Fine", so naturally, it bothers him quite a bit that one of his appendages refuses to follow orders on a regular basis

It's something that he tries to hide from you - pretends it's not there, BARELY jokes about it.

If Merry Brandybuck ain't joking about it, you aren't either.

Sometimes you hear villagers mentioning it in hushed whispers, and you (badass) shut them up before a single one makes it back to Merry

Because you know that's what he'd do for you, so you absolutely do it for him.

And you know he secretly appreciates that you don't fuss over it, because he doesn't want to feel different or incapable. It helps, for him, that you treat him like just the same person he was before (because he is duh) and nothing has changed and he doesn't want or need to be coddled.

Not saying you do, but you might sometimes give this particular arm a little extra love and affection. Massaging his hand, tracing circles on his wrist, and just letting him know how dead cool you think his scar is.

Because, really…how many people have changed the fate of Middle Earth and have something to prove it?

Your Merry does, that's who. And you'll never let him forget how amazing and brave he is.

Pippin is constantly awake in the dead of night

Because he's haunted by wild nightmares 

And you're the first and probably one of the only people he would turn to for comfort

So guess what? You're up too, holding him close to you in the dead of night while he tries to calm down

Sometimes he tells you what the night mare was, sometimes he keeps silent and just wants to lay next to you. You know he'll tell you in his own time if it's right to.

This little hobbit is such an empath, he really took to heart EVERYTHING that happened on his journey

And he thinks that way too many things were exclusively his fault 

Gandalf's death? His fault.

Merry getting hurt (because he got them separated and wasn't there)? His fault.

Boromir's death (because he didn't know how to fight)? His fault.

Again, you know better than to push, but you know the content of a lot of his nightmares revolves around his contributions being insignificant, his actions causing people's injury (or death), and how badly things could have played out because of him. It worries you, how much brainspace he gives to these things.

So you keep him close to you. I mean that both literally and figuratively. He's not shy about taking the physical comfort he needs (honestly I don't think he's aware of the concept of personal space), but he gets tripped up trying to talk about his own feelings

So you just give him his space, all the time he needs, and bottomless snuggles 

Because contrary to what he thinks, a lot of things went right because of him, and you can't tell him enough how much he means to everyone (and you. most importantly, definitely you.)

A/N: i'm sorry if i failed you in the whole party-fun!reader aspect i just went on a different direction and when i realised i like this a bit too much. hope you like it too anon!!!!! 🫶

You weren’t ever too sure about Adam. He just seemed a bit problematic, loud, interruptive, and he never took things seriously. Not that you were the chillest person on heaven, quite the opposite, but still, there was something about Adam that threw you off. You felt like that was all a faced. You knew that, when he wanted to, he could be kind, and was actually very enthusiastic regarding his job at heaven. Not that he would ever knowingly admit it. So when Sera partnered you two for a, quite important job, you didn’t know what to expect, or how to feel. At first you thought he might try to run the shop by not letting you contribute any of your ideas. He thought you were a tightass that would try to make everything boring (exactly what he said to Lute).

However, both of you were surprised once time went on, and you got to know each-other better. He realised you were actually quite fun, he might even say careless. He found himself in shock, and partially offended, when he realised you actually hosted parties every few weeks. You found out that he was deeply misunderstood. And actually really cute and charming. And you also promised to invite him to your next party, once you had finished the long task Sera had appointed you.

"Adam? Will you read that to me again?" You sat cross legged on the carpeted floor of Adam’s basement, chewing on the end of your click pen. Adam was too busy trying (and failing) to get basketballs on a net at the top of his wall to notice you’d called out to him. Dropping the pencil down on your notebook, you let out a frustrated sigh, standing to get his attention.

"Adam!"

Startled, he stopped short, turning towards you with his eyes wide in surprise.

"Yeah? You alright?" He asked, putting down the basketball and appearing in front of you.

"Yes Adam, I just wanted to get this part done," you explained, rolling your eyes in annoyance. “Besides, why do I have to work? I would also love to be able to play with that fucking basketball." It wasn't that Adam didn't work, he just got distracted easily.

"Ha! As if you could play." You felt deeply offended even though you knew you did NOT know how to play basketball.

"Wow. Just wow. I thought you would've known about my years in the angel's basketball team. I used to be one of the bests." You lied, trying to defend your dignity.

"As if! I was on the angel's basketball team. Never saw you there." "It must've been waaaay before you got in. I've been here for longer, you know."

"Alright then, prove it."

"Prove what?"

"Prove you can play." He handed you the ball and you held it.

"I'm a bit rusty." You smiled at him as you saw him grin. He could see right through you and your lies, what he didn't figure out was that you could also see right through him. So instead of shooting towards the net, you hit Adam with the basketball right on top of his head. Watching it bounce on it only to later hit the floor.

"Ouch! What the fuck was that for?" he ran his hand through his hair.

"Get to work or I'll hit you again."

"Hey! That's toxic workplace behaviour, I'm gonna have to report you now." You groaned in annoyance. "What will it take for you to work on this with me for an hour? Do we have to make a deal?" You joke with a light chuckle. Adam jumped at the opportunity to compromise, knowing that he could work if he really wanted to, and that the deal would then be in his favour.

"A deal hey?" He asks, resting his chin in his hands, looking up at you with sparkling eyes.

"Yes, whatever you want for 1 hour of your precious time," you scoff, picking up your pen again to work. As a higher ranking angel, you knew better than to be stubborn. You didn't mind having to sacrifice a little something. Besides, the end was in sight, meaning you wouldn’t have to deal with him for much longer - however, you struggled to admit to yourself that it would actually make you sad not hanging out with Adam as much as you were right now, worrying you would go back to the stranger treatment you had with each other before.

"I’m not gonna tell you until the hour is up," Adam teases, retrieving a book full of sinners' names for your work from the couch and opening it to a dog-eared page.

"Okay read it again for me, and this time slowly," you emphasise on the word “slowly”, watching him let out a small laugh, shifting on the floor to get comfortable.

"Okay, ready?"

"Yes, Adam."

"Okay," Adam takes a deep breath before beginning, you’re skimming over your notes, making sure all of them make sense. Adam tries to memorise some of the names before you write them, wanting rather to watch you work than have his eyes glued to the book.

Adam rests his hands in his lap, noticing the way your lips part and your tongue juts out only slightly when you concentrate. He notices you fiddling with the edge of your notebook, your fingertips grazing the spiral as it winds to bound the book. He notices how effortlessly pretty you are, and how committed you’ve been to this assignment. He thought it was so funny that you were so oblivious to his blatant staring. He suddenly lets out the breath he didn’t notice he was holding in.

"Adam?" You ask, the same annoyance bubbling inside you from when he didn’t pay attention before.

"Right," Adam shakes his head from his thoughts and returns to reciting the book.

You hadn’t noticed you’d leaned slightly into Adam, your shoulders brushing. Adam suddenly feels warm, his shoulder tingling where you were touching him. His heartbeat hammered in his ears as he licked his lips, readying himself to read the next part.

He thought of how cunning his side of the deal was, and how much more tempting it got the longer you touched him. It was a gamble, but it was one he was willing to take.

Adam rested his hand on his thigh, inching his fingers closer to your joined knees.

You look up at him, finally noticing how close the two of you had gotten, but doing nothing about the close proximity. Something felt different, the air was harder to breathe, and your stomach felt like it was housed by a million butterflies. His eyes shun as they looked into yours, your faces inching closer and closer.

Adam finished reading and silence filled the room, accompanied by the small pants of your breathing, you pulled your body away, sitting up straighter and looking more alert.

"Good reading Adam," you let out a small cough to cover the awkwardness that had just washed over you. Fuck, you were so close to kissing him, and you didn’t know why. You scowled at yourself for being so cliche, and put down your notebook. Adam bit his lip in a smile as your cheeks blushed red because he knew you’d felt that too.

"Okay, deal time?"

You know you asked for an hour, but a break right now didn’t seem so bad.

"Okay," you say, as he scoots his bottom across the floor to face you.

"One kiss," he says finally, your jaw swinging open in shock. A kiss? Was he serious? Did you hear that right?

"A kiss?" You repeat, chuckling. At first you thought it was a prank - classic Adam. However, his face was dead serious, as serious as you had ever seen him. You hadn’t read that Adam felt anything for you, the same way you hid having a big fat crush on him by being sort of mean.

"Come on, you know you want to." He teases suddenly changing his behaviour and body language as he realised he had been perhaps a bit too vulnerable for his liking. But you has already seen him. You knew his true intentions when he asked that and you knew they matched what you wantes, so why weren't you kissing him?

Your lips form a tight straight line as you contemplate your choices. Give up the tough guy act now and cave to your feelings, or don’t. It was like Adam was giving you the perfect opportunity to do what you always thought of doing.

"Okay, only one," you narrow your eyes at him as he gives you a curt nod.

“Of course, whatever the lady wants,” he sends a wink on your direction and you can't help blushing as you try to hide the redness with a laugh.

You lean forward, securing a small kiss on his cheek, almost too close to the corner of his mouth as it curled into a small smile. Your lips linger there for a moment, before you pull away, just slightly, your face still so close to Adam’s. You contemplate whether you should just go for it. But before you could decide what you wanted to do, Adam does it for you, connecting your lips in a soft, passionate kiss.

It takes you aback, but you compose yourself quickly, cupping his cheeks in your hands, as his secure to your hips. He pulls you closer, until you’re practically in his lap, straddling his hips with your thighs. His tongue prods at your lower lip, and without another thought, you open your mouth, letting his tongue explore where no one else has. The feeling was magical, and after all those nights you lay awake thinking of this moment, it finally came in full force.

You had to pull away with a gasp when Adam’s hand started to cup your bare ass under your shorts, your hands resting comfortably on his shoulders as you stared at each other.

"Fuck I’m sorry- I shouldn’t have-"

"No! It’s fine, I just, I... I kinda like you? Adam... And I mean, I don't care if you want to just fuck or whatever. But... I guess I just don't want that." you let out a nervous laugh, wanting so badly to crawl into a hole and die from your confession. "It's not you! Well, I guess it is you? I don't mind one-night stands, I just..." Adam interrupts you by letting a small laugh, the back of his hand coming up to caress your cheek.

"I get why you assumed that. I mean, I am THE Adam, THE original dick, why would I settle down?" You roll your eyes at his cockiness and his expression softens. "But I do like you. I like you just in the way that you said it, truly."

"Really?" You ask him, your voice only just louder than a whisper.

"Yeah! I mean- you’re so smart and pretty, and we’ve spent a lot of time together, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you, wouldn't mind getting to know you better. The whole of you" he moves his hand towards your waist.

“I’ve felt the same way,” you reply, pulling Adam in for a hug, resting your head in the crook of his neck. He holds you close, before you sit back down on the floor across from him.

“So… you think I’m pretty?” He asks, shooting you a cheeky wink. You roll your eyes again, letting out a small laugh.

I'm usually a Vezmancer, but this time I decided to try all the routes and Laz...my my my what do we have here? I love the Oracle being this morose, hissing wet cat to him, hitting him with the "Why are you doing this I'm doomed to die sooner or later, stop it, let me die in solitude" is just marvelous (I'm a sucker for that sort of thing). (I also love being able to just pick whoever without worrying about always picking that RO in other scenes).

I truly hope at some point we get to circle back to the loneliness conversation (for added angst maybe after Laz fs up and get to hit them with the "should've stayed lonely I guess" and idk turn invisible or into a bird/butterfly so they can't/won't look at us and fly off).

I do have a question, mostly because I can't remember what the warnings were prior to this chapter, but just how dark can we make the story? Cause I noticed that every time the Oracle starts to go dark, they immediately bounce back. Like with Argellan (apologies if that's not how it's spelled, I don't remember assholes' names out of disrespect lol jk I'm just terrible with spelling) they almost start to cry and then just don't. Or they feel helpless and then just get determined even if most options I pick are the passive/I deserve this and "oh well guess I'll die" options. I'm not complaining, mind, I get going down the major depression path is not something everyone wants to do nor is comfortable doing, and that's 1000% ok. Your story, I'm just here for the ride.

I'm mostly curious given the warnings on if those tags are for the other characters? Or if it depends on our sanity or if it can get darker later? To set my expectations if you will. No need for spoilers and if it makes you uncomfortable/upset apologies, please don't feel the need to answer.

Regardless I look forward to confusing all the ROs with my pessimism and chaos.

I understand you might want more “depressing” options, but it’s just not the direction I planned for this main character. They can end up in a pretty bad situation if their sanity falls, but overall, their potential tragedy is in misinterpreting what they need to become happy.

The Oracle is someone who wants a better life. It’s at the heart of their character. Every decision they have been making their whole life is pushed by this desire. They might be doomed, but they’re not going down quietly. They will force themselves to get up even when the situation is bleak, and that was the point of that moment—to show that they don’t allow anyone/anything to beat them down easily. They never have, and that’s why they’re still alive and trying to not just live, but live well.

Their developing arc isn’t “I want to live love laugh” vs “I’ll die so everything’s meaningless”, it’s more like “I’ll become a better person against all odds and find my place” vs “I’ll take what I want by any means necessarily even if it makes me miserable”. That’s as much as I can say without spoilering things.

So yeah, they’re not staying in the gutter. We’re actually at the point in the story where they begin to pick themselves up and take control of their life.

For the warnings—it’s mostly for what the Oracle encounters, though some of it will apply to them if you go down a particular path. Let’s just say… they might end up in a worse situation than they’re in now, you know? 🌚 Perhaps you'll enjoy that route! :)

I tried analyzing Maya's stuff on her display, but no luck. There's some kind of doll house(?) that reminds me of a court house(??) There's also a pegasus figure (???) And is that a trophy? In a shape of what, a bird? A person in gymnastic?? (did Maya ever got into a competition or smth? or myb its minhyuk's somehow) I have no idea what this all means. Maybe I'll look into it once it comes up again in later episodes. Or I'll just try scour fans' analysis on this.

One of my pet peeve: why didn't Maya & Rika give Shinae a full explanation/disclosure about the party they're going into before they ordered the masks and dressed up. I think the disclosure would do wonders for Shinae to prepare herself before entering this party. With the last-minute informations, it kinda seems like both of them are throwing Shinae into the sharks, esp if Shinae is unfamiliar with upper-class kind of party. It's kinda careless of them if you ask me. Maybe because they're so used to this party, they didn't consider to put themselves into Shinae's shoes?

Istg the reason why Nol is nearby and bumped into Shinae in this episode will determine whether their second meeting is intentional or coincidence. What he said to himself and what he said to her, they match. So he's being genuine here? He's not telling a cover-up story to hide his true objective??"

I know Nol said (in ep 179) he approached people with ulterior motives: because he wants to make amends for the past, to gain control over his life, for his absolution, etc. He makes it sound like he's approaching people purely to make him feel less guilty about himself, and to torture/punish himself at the same time by forcing himself to live/move even though he doesn't want to. But I don't think it applies to Shinae here. Regardless if she run into problems in the party or not, from the start, he already put an interest in her because she's interesting. If it's true that he approached Shinae in ep 3 because he recognized her and wanted to meet her, then maybe, his intention here is not entirely "selfless" afterall. He approaches her not because he anticipate her to be this damsel-in-distress who need saving, he approaches her because he likes her. Platonically ofc.

Shinae's rejection line. Her statement that she will treat everyone the same regardless of occupation might've made him even more impressed. Then, her comment that human (he) suck stings. Maybe he figures out she's putting up a wall as a defensive mechanism to fend for herself, which, he also relates with her. Maybe he's smiling because he empathized with her. Like "yeah, I get that, I feel like that too."

OH. This smile. I had such a hard time deciphering this smile. Maybe this is more than just him empathizing with her sentiment.

Maybe this is the smile of "Ahh gotcha. Another person similar with me who needs help. Once I help her, we can be friends, she's happy, another progress to absolve my sins. I hit a jackpot with this one."

If this is true, then it makes sense why Nol feel so guilty in ep 179. Because he treated helping Shinae as a way to fill his "good-boy stamp card" to make up for his past(?).

Ohh wait we don't know how his life went prior to this night! If my memory is correct that Nol was avoiding Kousuke prior to this, it means they had a problem, Nol was feeling shitty, he felt like the world is going against him, and he sees helping Shinae as an opportunity to gain control over his life!

If this is NOT true, then maybe the reason why he helped Shinae is simply because he likes her, he relates with her, and he wants to hang out with her more, but he doesn't realize any of this in ep 179 (even in the newest ep). Though I find this hypothesis to be more unlikely now, I won't toss it yet. Just to give it a fighting chance, lol.

"When I said I wanted to help, I meant it, so here I am!" Eyes closed. He's not lying, but he's hiding his true intention. Whether he's hiding his true intention of wanting to feel better about himself or he's hiding the fact that he likes her is still not clear to me.

Yeah, this guy is Yeong-Gi alright. The Yeong-Gi who tries to appear as harmless as possible. The bubbly guy who wants to help anyone he empathized with.

A normal person would simply help her by calling a cab, paying for it if they feel generous, and calling it a day. I think that's what Yeong-Gi would do, because as long as he can help her get home safely, it's more than enough for him. But no, I think this guy is Nolan, whether he realizes it or not. Or maybe there's a part of Nolan that's seeping through his Yeong-Gi mask. Yeong-Gi would go extra miles to help, but I think only Nolan would suggest to help her set up a prank for revenge. It's not just for her sake, I think it's also for his sake. Potential multiple reasons: 1) he's genuinely pissed at her girl friends, because they—who're supposed to be her close friends that she defended to such extent—abandoned her (just like how Kousuke abandoned him; Nol's projecting his anger at that time to her situation now). 2) Because he wants to get on her good side. 3) Because he's depressed with Hirahara's control that he wants to have fun (read: create a little chaos) with her. 4) It's a mix of all things.

Augh, I forgot he's so good at reading people. So, another possible reason why he suggested a prank: 5) Because he can sense Shinae is a natural daredevil (like him) based on how reckless she was to defend her friends, so there's a high chance she won't reject this offer.

My God, someone said the first time Shinae meet Nolan is at Minhyuk's party, and I agree, but what if the reason why Nol & Shinae hit it off so well in the beginning, is because Nol is being Nol without realizing it, and Shinae has already met Nolan since the beginning. Am I straying off or am I on the right track??

Huh, I completely forgot about Nol's intention of hooking up Shinae with Dieter. Like I said previously, is he deadass believing (in ep 231) he's approaching her because he wants to play cupid, and not because he himself is interested in her??

Am I crazy or is Nol in ep 237 truly that dense/in denial. Not that I'm saying he already harbored a romantic feeling from the very beginning—I don't think so, but I found it hard to believe he would think he likes her because he latches on to the first person who treat him nicely, and she can be replaced by anyone as long as they're a decent human being. (wait, with his condition it's not that hard to believe, ig...). Nol, please define "a decent person" in your book.

Nol, you... you're just too focused on how you feel for her on your birthday. You need sleep. And a lot of time to reminisce and contemplate (which I hope you can do in your jail time). Not neccesarily romantic, but your attraction towards Shinae clearly has started long before your birthday, your separation, or even the Kim party's accident, and it only got worse over time.

Nol always chooses his friends based on how much he relates to them, not just because they're someone who needs help. Soushi was facing injustice and was unable to fight back against his bullies. Dieter was a lonely foreigner who had a hard time adjusting to a new, unfamiliar country, which worsened his loneliness. Alyssa was a lonely person who was facing trauma and heavy guilt. Nol sees himself in them and decides to help them out as Yeong-Gi because, not just to alleviate his guilt, but also (most probably, whether he realizes it or not) because he wished they could have a "hero" he didn't have in the past. But Shinae is different. From the start, she's already a "hero." She chose to step up for other people's sake. She has this blazing fire to seek justice. She's probably a figure he wished he had in his past. She left a great impression on their first meeting. And eventually he learned that she wears a facade to appear strong to fend for herself and she's also abandoned by people close to her; just like him. Just from their first meeting, he can't just replace her with any decent person. He gravitates toward her because he immediately senses a kind of comradeship. She's already special in that way.

Edit2: The crux of my confusion with Nol as a character, is how much he acts as Yeong-Gi and how much he acts as Nolan in this party. Because. While Yeong-Gi being pushy with his help is so typical of him, the fact that he put an interest in Shinae in ep 2 and the way he suggested a rather devious plan for revenge screams Nolan to me. Is there any compiled analysis out there about Nolan vs Yeong-Gi?? I need to read more.

So, this scene is coming from a mod I'll link to in a reply (because I still think that posts don't appear in tags if links are in them that go off the site?), I feel like I should start off with.

Most of those lines we all have seen a dozen times before, I'm sure, but I still felt the need to share this. Because I can never get enough of him there's things in here that I absolutely loved getting.

Just, as a list I guess, because I don't think I can make a long text about it.

I do like that this has been set to be taking place close to graves - a nice nod to later. Also just kinda nice to have a scene happen outside of camp for a change (although it did teleport me away from where I was before the scene, like afterwards I had to waypoint back to the gauntlet of shar)

"I've been wearing my heart on my sleeve for a while" is not really Ari, but, that's okay.

The kiss actually mostly lining up there, because the mod has been made for bt1 in mind and thus adjusted the heights or something (read it on the mod, idk how else to explain). I just, I wish in the kisses mod the kisses would line up similarly, too. I assume that's not easy bc there's different bodytypes and everything and it's probably not like you can easily adjust that to automatically match or whatever, but, oh it was really nice to see the kiss lined up better than when I replay it through the kisses mod.

I absolutely love those last two lines there. I think I've seen videos of the "loving and adoring" one before but never got it myself? Or maybe I did and I'm just not sure right now, idk, but point is, I don't know how I'd even get that line in the default game, and I love hearing that and it fits so well into the scene especially after those multiple kisses, and just, thank you modder for adding that. And of course, the "a lot of fun together", is so nice to say because it's kinda mirroring the end scene (where I think this line is taken from in the first place, but, that's not the point), and I absolutely feel like it would have made 100% sense to have a line like that in the default scenes of it too. Idk.

But yes, I really liked seeing this modded scene - I'm curious about the flower and would love to, when using this mod, have it as like hairpiece or something to have my char wear afterwards or sth, but that as a sidenote - although I don't think I'll keep it as like, a regular or permanent mod to use. For now there's another mod for these scenes of his that I'll try in the next run (or more like the restart of this one bc I'll be able to have Ari as shadow sorc once I do the update I'm kinda trying to subconsciously postpone or sth), and after that, well, we'll see if I'll say I wanna go default or keep one of the two mods in "permanently".

Also, just, it's so amazing what modders can achieve. I'm so impressed.

- goddess of death asks her godling/husband philza if he can provide anyone (she doesn't fully trust xd to be kind to phil for whatever reason) and philza sends his adopted(? Not sure yet) son wilbur

The actual story starts AFTER wilbur has died

Prequel-ish:

Wilbur gave a kind of affection others didn't to Dream and he(dream) craves it in an unhealthy codependent way

Dream thinks it's *his* fault Wilbur killed himself, although he doesn't truly understand why, just that he's a bad god and isn't providing the necessary research to help XD

Dream knows *extremely* little about the outside world

He's chained(kinda) up in a room and cannot move, some high tech helmet is on him to measure his brain waves(doodle this later)

He has been in this contraption ever since he was created and grew up in it

Wilbur isnt a godling, but isnt fully mortal either, he's blessed by the goddess but he can still die

He's the closest thing to mortal that Dream has met

Techno is friends with dream and they are close and dream was able to develop and open up his personality cause of techno

There's a type of comfort techno gives dream

Also a double edged sword cause in dreams eyes, Techno is a Good Godling. Something he'll never achieve

Techno can walk around and read books and leave the room and talk with his patron whenever he wants(as far as dream knows)

Dream is Bad because he is trapped here and isn't ready to go outside the room. He is bad at being a god and that's why he can't leave yet. Once he's Good he can leave....surely...

Wilbur is not godly. But he can leave. He is special, cherished and loved and Momentary. Dream loves him in a way he doesn't understand. He wishes to be like Wilbur. If he weren't a god, he wouldn't have to be good or bad. Why does Wilbur cry at his knees praying? He can't move to make the tears go away, he doesn't get it....

They converse a lot, dream learns about Life:tm: and the meaning of it, as per described by Wilbur. But Life is mean to wilbur as Dream is learning. But he doesn't get why, it just is. If Dream becomes a Good God, he can help Wilbur and get rid of the Mean in Wilbur's life

Wilbur is just some Not Well Adjusted Adult

- living and surrounded by heavenly people takes a toll on the mental health oops

- feeling of insignificance and that he will be forgotten once his life is over

- smh he spreading his edgy ideology to pure unknowning dream stop that you're gonna make both of yourselves More depressed

- The equivalent of some grown guy venting to a 10 yr old smh(dream isn't 10 but has that innocence in a sense)

-Wilbur also becomes horribly codependent on Dream since this is the only Godly figure who actually listens to him

-he realizes Dream doesn't fully understand, but does see dreams genuine want to help wilbur in any way he can

"I'll be Good Wilbur! And then I can help, I'll make it better!"

Wilbur does come to a sudden realization how fucked up it is for Dream to be stuck here. Maybe more for selfish reasons, but he wishes for Dream to be out (maybe to just be Wilbur's)

- to an extent, everyone knows it's messed up, but you can't go against XD and it has now become Commonplace for this godling to be locked up. It's just one godling(as far as they know) going through this....it's fineeeee

Wilbur ends up killing himself(or does he dun dun dun)

Techno is sent to tell Dream the news by XD but he beats around the bush as he's trying...(love awkward techno <3)

XD then appears in the room upset by Techno's lack of [word I can't remember] and breaks the news to Dream.

Dream doesn't really understand the gravity of death in the moment, as much as Wilbur did bring it up

XD: Wilbur is dead my dear Godling.

Dream: oh....when will he return, Papa?

Techno: .......he won't. He's...he...-

XD: There is no returning from death my dear Godling. Wilbur will cease to visit and you will forget and continue on without him.

Xd leaves in a blink and dream doesn't quite digest it yet, he doesn't *get* it

Wilbur isn't coming back....why? Was it his fault...?

He looks at Techno hoping for something more

But techno looks distressed, eyes scrunched and eyes shiny....that doesn't make sense. Techno is not allowed to have that face. He knows wilbur and Techno were close too. They both would visit at once sometimes and speak with each other in ways dream doesn't quite understand. A familiarity that Dream has always craved.

But surely Techno can still see Wilbur right? Wilbur just won't visit anymore....Wilbur isn't visiting....but techno can tell him about Wilbur after Wilbur's dead is gone....?

Dream: Techno....?

Techno will flinch and look at dream in the eyes and Dream will see such a sadness that he doesn't *get*

Where is Wilbur...?

Techno can see Dream's confusion, he knows XD is cruel and will not explain the sadness of death to his son godling. XD has purposefully not bonded with Dream. XD is horrible.

Techno will take a breathe and then steady his voice. Dream is meant to stay pure for this experiment as per XD's orders. Whatever that means.... XD is not Techno's God but he is under his domain and he still has a friend here that he needs to look after. He will not leave his friend alone. He *cannot* fail another. He will find a solution....

Techno: Wilbur is gone dream. No one will ever see him again. Only the Goddess may comfort him now....

Dream: oh....is it because of me?

Dream won't get it. He will continue to hope for wilbur to return. If he becomes Better and Good. Wilbur will Return. He will become as good as his Papa and as good as the Goddess so he can comfort wilbur instead!

Techno: No... no dream it isn't because of you. Wilbur....was going through something. None of us could've helped...he's gone Dream. Wilbur *cannot* come back. I'm sorry.

Dream is tired of not getting it.

But he does. He does get it. Wilbur described being dead and death many times. But dream doesn't think that description fits Wilbur. So Wilbur can't be that. He *cant*

(But he is. Wilbur is Dead.)

The monitors will go off like crazy and Techno will be forced to leave.

Dream will scream. His Wilbur is *gone*.

Dream will enter a deep depression.

He will need to be forced fed and XD will scold him and Dream will cry as his Papa tells him he will never be worthy of leaving the room. Dream will forever be Bad. Thats why he couldn't save Wilbur. It Is His Fault.

Techno will visit more often and fight to stay longer. He's been meaning to break Dream out, but the trouble it'll cause his own God prevents him. But he might say fuck it anyways.....

But Dream needs someone now. And Techno thinks he knows someone else who is equally in despair. He knows XD has been badgering Phil to bring someone else. But Phil refuses, he is also Depressed but handling it way better. But when Techno asks, Phil trusts Techno more.

Techno just hopes this isn't a bad idea and that XD doesn't fucking blow up this person....

So Techno will tell Dream, hey Nerd. A new person will be visiting tomorrow. It was a pain to get him to agree, but...maybe you'll like him? He's really annoying at first, he still is really. But you guys might share stuff in common funny enough.

And dream will be despondent. Suspended by his chains and motionless, emotionless. He looks dead. Techno will feed him stew while talking with him. How he spoke to philza to get permission. How XD approved of the person(but XD doesn't know how loud this guy is techno will joke)

Dream will only eat from technos hand now. In the recess of his mind, it's wilbur. It's wilbur talking to him, even if the mannerisms and voice is wrong.

Someone new is coming. Why though. He has everyone he wants. He doesn't need anyone else. He'll be a Bad god forever. No one new will change that.

Then a mortal visits.

Main plot:

Tommy is depressed as shit. His (kinda adoptive?) brother wilbur was found at the shores of a river. He jumped from a bridge to kill himself. He was at school when they found him. He hasn't been to school since. He hasn't been anywhere. It's been about 3 months. He thinks he might have to repeat the year, that would fucking suck...Phil is trying to get him back out there. But fuck Phil. It's his fault. He killed wilbur....everyone did.

But then Techno visits him specifically. And Tommy thinks Techno is awesome and amazing and he doesn't visit home for *him*. He visits for Phil or wilbur. Tommy is just....there pestering Techno for attention. Tommy blames himself a lot for Wilbur's death.

Techno knows that. Has seen both sides of the coin. All the good and bad with wilbur. The cruelness he possessed.

Wilbur was not good to Tommy.

Tommy will learn way later why Techno would visit so much when Wilbur was alive.

But now Techno is visiting Tommy! And they go on a stroll in the nearby woods.

Techno will ask how Tommy is doing

Tommy will avoid the question

Tommy asks what techno is up to.

Techno will say he's still on his Assignment.

And Tommy stops. While Tommy blames the whole fucking world(including himself) for Wilbur's death. He blames the Assignment more. Ever since Wilbur had to leave everyday to go to the Assignment, he's come back different. He isn't as dumb as people make him out to be. But he just didn't want to acknowledge the change. Wilbur became meaner to him over time ever since he got that fucking Assignment. Wilbur started saying meaner shit to him, started hitting him, stop calling him all the fun nicknames. Wilbur....Wilbur was scary. And Tommy wasn't enough to help him. Tommy lost Wilbur to that fucking Assignment.

The most blame comes from that fucking thing. That's the *real* reason Wilbur is *gone*.

Tommy will feel his anger swell and before he has a chance to curse the fuck out of Techno,

"Do ya want to come with me tomorrow?"

And Tommy's anger pops like a balloon. He's so taken a back.

"What the fuck?"

And he'll agree. After a bit a of yelling and screaming.... He's gonna see first hand what destroyed wilbur and fucking kill it himself. Destroy it to shreds.

(Techno will keep quiet about Tommy's feelings on this whole subject from XD haha....XD's special project is in no danger whatsoever, this is a great plan!)
