Regulus has his suitcase packed and he’s almost out the door when Sirius stops him.

“Where are you going?” Sirius asks him.

“Italy.” Regulus almost growls.

“Why are you going to Italy?” Sirius asks ignoring Regulus’ tone.

“He asked me to marry him, Sirius!” Regulus says through gritted teeth.

“Yes. I know.” Sirius tells him.

“YOU KNOW?” Regulus is yelling now.

“Yes, of course I know. That still doesn’t explain why you’re going to Italy.” Sirius questions again.

“HE ASKED ME TO MARRY HIM, SIRIUS!?” Still yelling and getting louder.

“Reggie, I still don’t see the connection here.” Sirius says, but before Regulus can answer, James walks out of their bedroom.

“James, Reg is going---” Sirius starts.

“To Italy. I heard… He’ll be back.” James says casually.

“No, I will not!” Regulus says firmly at the same time Sirius asks “What?!” as he looks at James confused.

“He just needs a bit of time to process.” James shrugs, still very calm about the entire situation.

“Why are you not freaking out?” Sirius asks a bit frantically.

“I freaked out when he went to France when I asked him to be my boyfriend, but then he came back a week later and said yes. So, I didn’t freak out when he went to Greece when I told him I loved him. And then he went to… Spain?” He questions and looks at Regulus.

“Yes.” Regulus grits out.

“Spain, when I asked him to move in with me. Italy sounds like it will be nice. Have a good time.” James tells Regulus and gives him a kiss.

“I am not coming back this time, James.” Regulus says very definitively.

“Okay, love. I’ll see you in a week.” James says as he starts to walk towards the kitchen. He pauses and looks over his shoulder, “You have the ring, right?” He asks Regulus.

“Yes.” Regulus says as he walks out and slams the door.

Regulus is back in a week with the ring on his finger.

Genuinely one of my favorite things about the maruaders fandom that is widely agreed upon:

Regulus is trans. Everyone assumes Remus is trans because werewolf behavior can look suspiciously similar to having a period. Shenanigans ensue:

*During 1st Year*

Sirius: *discreetly giving Remus chocolate during his time of the month*

Remus, in his head: HOW DOES HE KNOW? HOW DOES HE KNOW I'M A WEREWOLF? HOW DOES HE KNOW CHOCOLATE HELPS? WHY IS HE NOT SAYING ANYTHING? WHAT IS HAPPENING?

*Quidditch Locker Room*

Marlene: FUCK!

Sirius: What's wrong?

Marlene: I started my period and don't have anything on me!

James, who started carrying extras because he's a mom friend: Oh, here you go.

Marlene: *intensely stares at them* Okay if James carries the tampons and Remus is the one who uses them, why the FUCK is Sirius named Pads???

James: I. . .what?

Sirius: Abort Prongs. There's no right answer to this one.

*During a Study Session*

Regulus: Ugh, I'm so jealous of you sometimes Lupin.

Remus "Low Self-Esteem" Lupin: Why?

Reg: It's just that. . .well, if your mood is any indication, your time of the month is so CONSISTENT! Like, every 28 days like clockwork. You've never had 2 in one month or anything!

Remus, in his head: . . .is. . .is Regulus a werewolf too? Is this how Sirius was so accepting?

Remus out loud: You get it TWICE sometimes, how is that even possible?

Reg: I know right, it's so unfair!

Regulus: . . .

Peter: . . .

Regulus: So is there a REASON you've been stalking me or---

Peter: Are you a werewolf?

Reg: The fuck? No? Why---

Peter: KAY THANKS BYE!

*later*

Remus: oh my God Peter I didn't mean ASK HIM

Peter: Well how the fuck else was I supposed to find out?

i just remembered that canonically, sirius got to godrics hollow after hagrid.

which means that after he had his godson taken away from him (bc lbr that’s exactly what hagrid and dumbledore’s orders basically did) then he went into the house and saw james and lily’s dead bodies alone. no buffer in the form of harry crying out for his parents or even the godfatherly instinct of making sure his kid is alright.

he was there, with his brother and friend’s cooking body, all alone. stewing in grief and pain and rage and guilt. ALONE.

do we even know how long he was there? for all we know, he could’ve been catatonic right there besides james all day.

Evan didn’t play quidditch, but he was a manager for the team, so he was often there to practice with them. How Barty got into the Slytherin lockers as a Ravenclaw? No clue.

“What are you doing here?” Evan hissed at Barty. Evan was just outside the shower, a towel around his waist. Barty slid his hand against Evan’s bare skin, across his sculpted abs and biceps. His lips trailed his collarbone as water droplets dripped. “Barty you can’t-“

“I can do whatever I want, Rosy,” Barty murmured against Evan’s dark skin. Barty pushed Evan back in the shower, stripping off his clothes. He turned the water on so nobody could hear them. It’s good he did that, though Evan suspected he may have done a few silencing charms, otherwise Evan is sure someone would have come to check on him.

So we all know the AU where Sirius and Remus raise Harry, but I have a new suggestion. What if, after Alice and Frank are tortured to the point of insanity and James and Lily are murdered, Sirius and Remus take both Harry and Neville in.

Imagine Harry and Neville being raised as brothers with a solid support network. Imagine both of them having childhoods free of neglect and abuse and expectations. Them being raised with stories of their parents and a household full of love and kindness. Them getting to stay up at night, hiding out under the blankets with a flashlight to giggle about nothing. Them stealing cookie dough and bits of food while Sirius and Remus cook, making a competition out of it. Them going off to Hogwarts together, being sorted together, and having sleepovers in the same fourposter.

Then imagine little Teddy Lupin being born, probably when they’re still relatively young, maybe seven or eight. Them getting so excited, getting in Sirius and Remus’ bed to poke Remus’ stomach and talk to their baby sibling (and sometimes poke Sirius’ stomach just because they can). Them taking it upon themselves to teach Teddy new words and then turning it into a challenge to see who can teach them more. Them rushing Sirius to get them home from Hogwarts quicker every break so they can say hi to their little sibling. Them regaling Teddy with tales of the castle (some of which are more made up than others just to fuck with them) together.

Imagine their family being Sirius, Remus, Neville, Harry, and Teddy, living together and being happy. They all get a happy ending. They get to be safe and surrounded by love. Just… imagine.

Remus Lupin was lying on his bed in the dormitory. 

He had been laying there for who-knows-how-long, staring vacantly at the hanging curtains. 

His day really hadn’t been all that great, and he was so tired- but it seemed like he could never sleep well. 

There was always some issue with his position, or his clothes, or the sensations around him. If he actually fell asleep, he was always plagued by nightmares. 

It had gotten to the point where Remus had no idea what to do anymore, because nothing he tried ever worked, and Madam Pomfrey refused to give him Dreamless Sleep potions, citing how “the effect reduces if you use it too much.”

Remus sighed, turning over in his bed, right as Sirius walked into the dorm.

“Hey, Moony. Are you okay?” Sirius asked, taking in Remus’s appearance. Remus was sure he looked terrible, and that his eye bags were probably deep enough to store a textbook in.

Sirius stepped closer to Remus’s bed, leaving his bag on the floor near the door. “Moony, are you okay?” he repeated, when Remus gave no answer. “You kinda look like shit, mate. Do you need anything?”

Now. Now was his chance to make a move.

“I mean, some cuddles would be nice, if you’re up for it?” Remus asked hesitantly, afraid of scaring Sirius off. When Sirius didn’t immediately answer, Remus’s brain kicked into overdrive. 

What if he thinks it’s weird? Does he think I’m weird? Does he think I’m a no-good, poor, werewolf freak? What if-

“Of course, Moons. Whatever you need,” Sirius said, successfully diverting the self-deprecating thoughts. “Do you want me to just, er, get in bed with you?”

Remus smiled tiredly. “Yeah, that would be nice.”

Sirius took off his shoes and socks, leaving them on the floor, and got onto the bed. 

Remus immediately latched his arms around Sirius’s wrists once he was fully on the bed, pulling him so that he was laying down next to Remus, who then grabbed him in a sort-of hug, which pulled them closer together.

Sirius smiled down at Remus, who had buried his face in the crook of his neck. “Do you want me to stay here, Moons?”

Remus nodded, tightening his grip around Sirius’s torso. 

Needless to say, Remus had one of the best sleeps of his life that day.
