You should have to pass a test about a book before you’re allowed to adapt it. I’m so sick of lazy, poorly written adaptations when you had a blueprint right there. Don’t @ me I know you have to make changes for the screen. Camelot (1967) is a masterpiece. Merlin of The Crystal Cave (1991) is delightful. The Winter King (2023) is an affront to book fans intelligence.

I’m re-reading Good Omens, or at least making a start at it, and I really don’t think I was prepared for how profoundly melancholy the opening scene is. You expect it to be, I don’t know, funny or even cute if the miniseries is what’s first in your mind, and that version is lovely.  But this? is soul-achingly beautiful.

"I'm not sure it's actually possible for you to do evil," said Crawly sarcastically. Aziraphale didn't notice the tone.

"Oh, I do hope so," he said. "I really do hope so. It's been worrying me all afternoon." They watched the rain for a while.

"Funny thing is," said Crawly. "I keep wondering whether the apple thing wasn't the right thing to do, as well. A demon can get into real trouble, doing the right thing." He nudged the angel. "Funny if we both got it wrong, eh? Funny if I did the good thing and you did the bad one, eh?"

"Not really," said Aziraphale. Crawly looked at the rain.

"No," he said, sobering up. "I suppose not."

Well the Acro Trip anime just solidifies how I felt about the manga, it's so goddamn flimsy. The series never manages to go beyond the superficial and that's a shame because if Sawata could have actually committed to having something slightly deeper behind the gags the whole thing might have landed very differently - for me, anyway.

At least this week I can also relive something good in the Magilumiere anime, I guess. Not sure how the actual animation will stack up, but the story at least has something of value to say about work in the 21st century even if the magical girl elements veer non-traditional.

Plus Kana-chi remains adorable in all formats.

anyways did a tiny task today that has literally been eating at my whole existence for the past year and a half.. i finally got my student travel card woohoo but like i mean literally that was so painful though. like they rejected me for some reason to start w and then the process just became so hard in my head that i just. didn’t do it and i was like feeling so so bad bc it was literally so easy but i couldn't make myself like sit down and do it and i was wasting money and etc etc Anyways so now it’s done yayy sorry for the paragraph but um i’m feeling so FREE now!!!

my next 2 forays into making things homemade that i usually buy (probably inferior) versions of are dumplings and chili oil. idk enough about chili oil to make a judgment on quality but vegetarian dumplings are both not sold at my local grocery store (so i have to take an extra trip to the asian market) and frequently not super delicious. and with the chili oil im like why not

I hate how now every time a discourse is being had about classic Disney movies, the godawful remakes (or retellings) have to be included in the conversation. It's no longer just the animated movie that is adressed. You can't discuss Aladdin without its 2019 remake, Sleeping Beauty without its 2014 remake, The Little Mermaid without its 2023 remake, Beauty and the Beast without its 2017 remake, The Lion King without its 2019 remake, Mulan without its 2020 remake, etc, etc, etc. I hate how they will be forever attached to these classic movies. It actually pisses me off to no avail.
